hey! Big fan of your BTTF fics! I only recently got (back) into BTTF, but it seems you’ve been here for a few years, plus you’re an nsfw author in this fandom, so I was wondering if you might have some insight on why Mammett is practically the only ship with lots of nsfw material? The only straight ships I’ve seen is Marty/Lorraine or Marty/OC. Why no Marty/Jennifer, or George/Lorraine, or even Doc/Clara? I want some nsfw Marty/Jennifer so bad and can’t find it anywhere! Did it ever exist? Was it deleted? Hope you don’t mind the random horny. Just curious and want someone to ask/rant to, one BTTF fan to another :)

I actually haven't any clue as to why mammett recieves more attention from NSFW creators. Believe it or not, this surprisingly comes as a shock to me!

Though my allegiance is sworn to mammett (😂), I had been under the impression that it was the least popular of the ships typically associated w/ BTTF, on account of it's... divisiveness? For lack of a better term.

Though, if I were to reckon a guess as to why it's so beloved by degenerates (jk) like myself, I'd say it has just as much to do with the taboo nature of their relationship as hating mammett for it is!

Which is exactly why it doesn't surprise me that one of the only heteronormative ships from BTTF that recieves an abundance of attention is Lorraine x Marty.

Like mammett, Lorraine x Marty involves two individuals whose sexual/romantic relationship would be met with disapproval (because, y'know, incest), which just makes for a fun jaunt when it comes to writing smut fic. The juicier and more depraved, the better!

Aside from that, though there are many other reasons as to why I (and likely many others) are attached to Doc x Marty--I think a major contributing factor to the abundant creation of NSFW mammett fic is the fact that much of what we see of their on-screen interactions (of the physical variety, especially) is interlaced w/ homoerotic subtext, albeit (likely) unintentionally.

That and taking their age gap into account, and the time in which BTTF is set, when homosexuality was still HIGHLY frowned upon, it kind of makes for a deliciously provocative "torrid love affair" type deal.

And, I (personally) am also very much attracted to both Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox (hence why I've so many rarepairs involving their characters 😂) which only adds fuel to the "I want to see them bang" fire.

In summary, Doc and Marty tick off all the boxes for somebody like me (in both a "omg, my otp, I wanna cry, I love them so much!!" type way, and a "I want to see Doc absolutely DESTROY Marty" type way). I imagine people must feel similarly about ships like Lorraine x Marty, George x Marty, etc.

I guess the more canon-typical ships like Jennifer x Marty and Clara x Doc haven't as much allure to NSFW writers on account of the fact that they'e likely considered to be "vanilla"? Though I can only speculate on that.

As for your frustrations in this regard, I completely understand. Scouring the tags on ao3 or similar websites in search of at least just one fic involving a ship you're invested in, only to come up short, is one of the most infuriating things in the world.

I take similar issue w/ trans Marty vs cis Marty fics.

I am one of very few mammett fic writers who solely portray Marty as being trans, and that is largely due to the fact that as a trans man myself, I wanted to see more pre-op trans representation in smut fics; something which was virtually non-existent in the fandom prior to my contributions.

I also like to write smut fic for a wide variety of niche audiences; though some of the things I've written about and or plan to write about in the future aren't necessarily kinks of my own, I still want to offer something else to the fandom aside from the repetative "Doc and Marty have flowery prose gay sex in the garage" fics (not that there's anything wrong w/ those fics, but admittedly after reading about 6 or 7 of them I tend to go "but where's the pizazz??" ..."pizazz" being the nastiest shit you can conceive of, of course, lmao).

To this day one of my all-time favorite fics I've aided in the creation of is the one where Marty is a gas-station attendant and he and Doc end up banging by the dumpster in the back alleyway behind Marty's workplace.

Not only is it deliciously, viscerally filthy, but they (being Doc and Marty) are also still very much themselves; their affection and fondness for one another knows no bounds, and thus doesn't feel out of place even in a fic involving watersports, armpit licking and non-con kink.

Perhaps now that I know there is an audience for it, in the form of, at least, you, I could try my hand at writing some Jennifer x Marty or Clara x Doc fics!

I've only two WIPS as of right now that involve a Jennifer x Marty sex scene (sorta...); that being a fic in which Jennifer is present when an experiment involving some chemicals (of the horny variety) goes awry and Doc is in dire need of uh... relief--and a sequel fic to Nocturnal Emissions that immediately begins with Jennifer eating Marty out.

These are two fics that I hope to complete and upload at some point, but in the meantime, if you're curious (and/or would like to talk more about mammett/BTTF in general) feel free to DM me and I'd be more than happy to share what I've written for these fics w/ you! 😄

I have watched all of Bleach

That is currently available. Personally one of the funniest things throughout my entire time watching was looking at Carmine, my oc, and realizing I had basically made a soul reaper. Not surprising considering this show is full of cool anime stuff

I don’t know anyone’s opinion on Bleach when it comes to the arcs but personally everything after the Espada arc felt like a 10 to me. Probably because one arc is just 13 court squad team mirror matches with a villain that has broken powers. Also Kon had importance and I never expected that. It was actually really touching. While the Fullbring was also really fun to watch.

I laughed every time a new subset of abilities were introduced for a group, and they are functionally the same as the other groups because for some reason Flash Stepping has to be Soul Reaper exclusive so Hollows, Quincies, Fullbringers, etc. have to call their high speed movement anything besides that. It felt like Ichigo changed job classes but continued to invest in the same stats so the only thing he got was cooler outfits and maybe three new moves. I honestly enjoy that a lot.

Rukia had my heart from being to end. No one told me Toshiro’s VA in English is Neji Hyuga, so there was a never a moment he wasn’t the coolest guy to me. Even when he was losing I was like “god he’s so cool.” My two favorite characters use ice; very on brand. I always knew Ichigo was based and had many transformations so Liking him a given.

Surprisingly, not a fan of Renji. He jobs so hard I kinda feel bad. I was stunned seeing him be and look so cool in the Fullbring arc, but that’s like two episodes! I’m upset my friend told me Orihime was Hinata but she matters, because that’s absolutely correct. Don’t get me wrong, I like Hinata, but Orihime is so much better that I got upset as a Naruto fan. I already know the ending ship to Bleach and while I still can’t believe it considering the amount of moments I’ve witnessed Rukia and Ichigo be each other’s emotional support and hype man, I already know I’m not bothered by canon.

All in all, watching Bleach has been like eating chocolate. Even the bad parts weren’t so bad for me. The only thing I noticed watching Bleach that was consistent was no matter what problem came up, you better believe the people that would trivialize it were not there until the end. I should’ve counted how my times I said “Where’s Yoruichi?” Then she shows up later to clown an enemy we’ve been fighting for four episodes before leaving! They use her like a get out of jail free card for the plot and it’s both funny but also a little silly. Kinda feels like those people who put their strongest Pokémon in the last slot so everyone else gets to grow and things look dicey for them; then they send in the max lvl legendary.

Bonus:Aizen is hilarious. Grimmjow and a few others have some pretty dumb lines, but nothing will ever match any character talking about how they planned something, while various actions around him beg to differ; all the way until he’s like “What is this!?” When Ichigo is done with his nonsense. The X-cution plan felt more like a calculated chess maneuver then Aizen losing all his men and getting stabbed. I feel bad like his catchphrase should’ve been “I course corrected.” 😅

Also yeah I watched the fillers. The bount arc is painful, but everything else was fine. I can’t decide if it’s better or worse than Naruto filler.

On ao3, just two: swtor and kotor (at this point, most of my writing exists either here or just as WIPs that will never actually be finished)

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

My works don’t really get a lot of kudos or comments, and I try not to get too hung up on that. I’d rather not list them by kudos, tbh, because my kudos-to-hit ratio makes me sad if I think about it for too long. (I write sort niche-interest pairings, I think, so I don’t really get a lot of engagement; I enjoy writing them, and I usually get the reaction I’m going for from the approximately three people who do engage with my writing, so it’s all good).

Do you respond to comments; why or why not?

I try to! I don’t always know what to say, but if someone took the time to leave a comment, I feel like it’s fair for me to respond and thank them.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

One that was actually only posted on tumblr, “it’s the way that you are and the way I’ll forever be,” (spoilers) the one about Tulia killing Zhorrid, probably. Or “a father’s love,” about how Zhorrid got her scars. I guess most of my Zhorrid stuff.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t write crossovers.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not exactly. I’ve gotten… really odd commentary about why my characters do the things they do. And, bro, if you’re upset about my characters’ motivations, you have this cool ability called “creating your own OC and then making them do whatever you want,” so, I don’t know what the problem was.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do. In fact, probably most of what I’ve actually posted is smut. Relatively tame stuff, I suppose, lots of wlw, quite a bit of exploration of power dynamics, “forbidden” desires, that kind of thing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t think so? I can’t imagine anyone would want to claim ownership of something I wrote though.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not to my knowledge.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

I don’t know that I have an “all-time” favorite. I’ve never gotten all that invested in many canon ships, and it feels weird to list any of my OCs and their LIs here. The one I’m currently fixated on is Eleison (non-canon compliant SI)/Dread Master Brontes.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

God, what a callout. My biggest current WIP is “I can be your heartache, you can be my shame,” about Eleison attempting to break the bond between the Dread Masters by shielding them from the Phobis devices, but there are a lot of details that I still have to work out for it, so it’s mainly just a collection of disjointed ideas.

What are your writing strengths?

I guess maybe coming up with angsty ideas…

What are your writing weaknesses?

Never actually following through with my ideas and not being able to describe scenes the way they play out in my head.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it can be neat. Sometimes it’s distracting and done in such a way that it’s just uncomfortable and it’s clear the author doesn’t actually speak the language they’re peppering in, but it can be done very smoothly. I don’t know that I’ve ever done it well.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

The X-Files. I did have some rather popular fics once upon a time, but I don’t think any of them were particularly good. Mercifully, I’m pretty sure they’ve been lost, even from the wayback machine.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

I am pretty proud of “brilliant and terrible thing” (mara!Shara angst-fest), and I would eventually like to write more in that universe that I was building.

(This is... not about what you think it is. And it’s also @ a whole lot of show-writers... -_-)

When they enable each other’s bad behaviors.

3. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you

Trust. Really simple as that. But when they genuinely open up about something fucked up they’ve been through or reveal their soft side, it like... gets me.

4. One physical aspect of a ship that always gets you

Height difference. And like, honestly, either way is amazing. I know especially in the mlm ships it’s usually the “top is taller” thing, but like... that is just as amazing as the taller one getting absolutely wrecked by the shorter one?

MULTI. ALWAYS MULTI. How do people with only one ship even live?

6. Rare pairs or Mainstream?

Rare pairs. It never ceases to terrify me when I realize the ship I like is actually really very popular. I don’t know, it’s just... impossible to connect for me then? It’s so large, there are so many here who have already been here forever, there is ten thousand set-in-stone fanons for this ship already? I prefer to sail a smol sailing ship with a crew where basically everyone on board kinda knows each other, or like at least knews each other threw someone both know. That way also makes it easier for me to find... footing in the fandom. Also, all cards are still on the table. You get to be the first to write trope x, instead of the 10th this week alone. And I dunno, but it’s fun to be the first to do something, or not even just the first, just... when something hasn’t been done to death already.

7. Polyamory or Monogamy?

Yikes, I genuinely hate that phrasing, like... it links so much with “monogamy means being faithful” and making everything else seem like cheating, not to mention polyamorous people can be in monogamous relationships too, so it should be polyamory vs monoamory.

But technicalities aside, poly all the freaking way.

8. If the ship is physical, reversible or not?

...what? *blinks* Like. I... genuinely have no idea what this question means?? Reversible? In what context? How is the ship physical?

9. Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?

Yes, always, otherwise I don’t consider it a “fandom” of my own.

Things I have ships for, I am actually invested in. Things I don’t have ships for are just... casual watches for me and I wouldn’t look at them as a fandom of mine. Something only becomes a fandom to me if I have a baseline investment in it and that, for me, always shows in shipping.

10. How important is the sexual part (if any) of your ship?

Very, actually. As an asexual person, the only thing I’ve ever seen in sex was a sign of trust, because you are literally never more vulnerable than when you are naked and bare and doing this. I always looked at sex as that, as a huge sign of trust in each other. That’s why the majority of my oneshots end on a sex scene, actually. It’s like... “this is where they are, they trust each other so much they share their bodies with each other and now they lay together, in each other’s arms in a gentle embrace, with nothing but this content feeling of being with the one they love on their mind”.

(It’s why I, to this day and beyond this day, will never understand casual hook ups with total strangers. The mere idea is utterly disturbing and terrifying to me, tbh.)

11. Opinion on platonic ships?

Friendships and familiar relationships are sooo important and honestly my favorite thing about fics is when they dive into what canon has only scratched upon. The potentials for friendships and family dynamics that canon deemed a waste of time to spend screentime on so they only made throwaway remarks that hint at these dynamics. I love exploring those. *^*

Yes.

I mean, even beyond fanfiction, I find marriage pretty important. I think it’s weird if you’ve been together for years and are of the opinion that you don’t plan on leaving this other person to then not marry them, tbh??

Also, it gives the nice fanfiction opportunity of taking on the spouse’s name in case of [insert abusive family here]. :D

15. Opinion on kids?

Very much yes. Seriously, creating a next gen OC line-up is one of the most fun things about being in a fandom? Also, this is how I know I have gotten Very Invested in something. My very shiny ones always get the next gen line-up, I looove it. And not just for the OTP, but like a legitimate line-up, for my favorite side-ships too, to imagine the dynamics between the kids, friendships, rivalries and love-stories unfolding them. You know I’ve dug myself in too deep when I create a third gen, where the next gen have kids together.

(My PJO line-up went a total of four OC generations deep.)

(My DC one is at two generations right now. Some parties are still in flux. Admittedly, it is also my biggest one after PJO considering it covers all my favorite Justice League members.)

This is... probably going to be pretty boring, to be honest. I consume and enjoy a lot of media, but I don't really get that head-over-heels fannish excitement for very many things.

First ship you ever read fic for: Mulder/Scully. The year was 1997, and I was thirteen years old with a brand spankin’ new AOL account and a computer with a modem (connected by PC card!) You better believe the first thing I did was type "X-Files" into the search bar.

I found my way to the AOL XF message boards, and realizing that there were people out there who not only wanted to *talk* about the X-Files, but actually *write* about it completely blew my mind. I think I found the Spooky Awards archives first and read my way through everything I could get my hands on, age-appropriate or not. Mostly not. Definitely not.

First ship you ever wrote fic for: Mulder and Scully again, but *years* after my first blush of infatuation with the show. I was always too intimidated to dive in while it was still on the air. I think I first tested the waters around 2006 with a short little (gen) horror story called The Barn, and then followed it up with my heavily-revised but still-probably-pretty-terrible casefic Gerber Daisies where a recently resurrected Mulder hunts a group of serial killers and slowly repairs his relationship with Scully over the course of S8.

Though I will say that before I knew what shipping or fandom or fanfiction even *was*, as a young child I used to make up stories in my head where Kyle Reese from The Terminator managed to come back in time again and live happily ever after with Sarah Connor. I never wrote them down. But maybe that counts?

Ship you write the most now: Sherlock/John. I have mixed feelings about S4, but the love is still there for me and not likely to fade any time soon.

Ship you read the most now: Sherlock/John. I tend to be somewhat fandom monogamous, so if I ever switch gears and start reading/writing a lot of another ship, it's probably a sign that I've moved on for good.

Newest ship: Hmm... I've watched a lot of Supernatural, but almost entirely out of order, so I have a kind of muddled idea of what happens when. But though I'm not particularly invested, I can totally see why people ship Dean/Cas.

Rare ship you wanna read more of: None that I can think of at the moment.

Your taboo ship: I don't have very many ships at all, so I can't really think of one that fits this criteria.

They never met in canon ship: I have a mild curiosity about what might happen if Irene ever met up with either Eurus or Molly.

Your unexpected ship: Possibly Jaime/Brienne from Game of Thrones. I don't know if it's so much a romantic ship as a please-have-these-characters-on-screen-together-all-the-time sort of thing. I just really enjoy their interactions. 

Oh! And Hannibal/Will Graham. It never even crossed my mind once while reading Red Dragon, but the show... hooooo boy.

The ship you always forget to give love to: Mulder/Krycek. I haven't read all that much, but there was such a simmering hate/attraction between the two of them onscreen that was kind of hard to ignore at times.

Ship your OC with a canon character: I'm not entirely sure I have any OCs well-drawn enough to ship with anyone. Um, Mac Gerber, the serial killer from Gerber Daisies is probably my best bet. It's been a while since I revisited that story, but I'm pretty sure I wrote Charlie Scully at least partway in love with him, so I'll go with that. Does Charlie Scully count as a canon character if he was mentioned but never appeared on screen?

A ship you’re embarrassed to ship: Erm, Cathy/Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, maybe? It’s hard to really call it a love story, but I find the depths that they push one another to to be incredibly compelling.

Your most romantic ship: Given the right context, I think they're all pretty damn romantic.

Your sexiest ship: All of them, I think?

Your most tragic ship: Hm. I guess I'll go back to my early childhood proto-shipping and say that Sarah Connor/Kyle Reese was pretty damn tragic. The whole thing where he fell in love with her photo and always wondered what she was thinking when it was taken? And it turns out she was thinking of him after he died? Yeah. Preteen me shed SO MANY tears over the end of that movie.

this is just a hypothetical question, but, if you were to write for a different ship than shigadabi what would it be?

Ooooh! That’s a good question! Do you mean in the bnha fandom, or any other kind of ship?

For bnha, my second favorite ship is actually Shiniida (shinsous x iida for the non initiated!), which managed to be even crackiest than shigadabi somehow!!!! I guess I just have a thing for emotional blue boys with their sleepy purple boyfriends … XD

But yeah, their potential dynamic really appeals to me and I’m actually genuinely considering writing something for them once I’m done with Something Good (and with every other shigadabi ideas I have in stock …).  It would probably be mostly fluff, about how Shinsou transfer to 1a and falls for the dreamboat that is their class president (but who wouldn’t) and Iida begins to to crush on this soft purple boy who needs some sleep (but who wouldn’t). Also it’s basically the two best boy of the show kissing each other so what’s not to like? (Tokoyami is the first best boy so he would be the wingman) (haha get it).

Other than that, I actually really enjoy Kacchako and the way the fandom portray their dynamic. So I could totally see myself writing some drabbles or a one shot at some point.

Also, I absolutely hate what I’m about to confess but … I may have a very tiny weak spot in my heart for Chisaki x Tomura? Maybe? I think that the concept is just hilarious to me … Just because of how much they would both hate having a crush on the other. So maybe who knows …

And maybe some short drabbles for Momojiro if I’m inspired. Also it’s not a ship, but I looove platonic/brotherly Tomura and Deku, so I could see myself write something for them!

These are the one I could see myself right for in the near future! They’re not the only ones I love, far from it actually (I kind of like every bnha ship), but these are the ones that I’m the most invested in or that inspire me the most! And of course all of that may change in the future as I may for in love with more ships!

Berkut/Rinea (FE: SOV) – the second that one cutscene of these two played I got1000% more invested in the story pffft. anyways rinea may be top tier fav andberkut shit tier fav, and their story tragic as heck (and I would also arguethat he doesn’t deserve her), but their genuine and honest love for each otheramidst the incoming death flags gets me every time

707/MC (Mystic messenger) – honestly they can either be a really good platonicdynamic duo or a solid otp. purely from the perspective of my own MC, theycomplement each other well; perfect balance of light-hearted teasing and asolid wall of comfort for each other.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons thatyou will die defending?

Not really. I’m a very flexible person when it comes tointerpretable lore and content, especially if it’s the type of HCs that thefandom collectively comes up with. Unless it’s a canon fact, I like to dabble orjust stay away from HCs in general. If I have to come up with some in my fics,then so be it. But most of the time these HCs are either super vague or onlyapply to the context in this particular piece or series of writing. Basically Idon’t mind switching HCs for charas frequently as long as it does notfundamentally change their own character. (HCs for hobbies and loves and habitsand relationships apart from their inner circle, etc. are all fine)

Honestly it just boils down to expectations lol I know myown limits, and I know not to be disappointed when canon updates end updebunking (popular) fandom HCs or my own.

Your taboo Ship: I don’t necessarily have a NOTP? But I don’t like incestuous relationships or pedophilia stuff, so anything involving that I guess.

They never met in canon Ship: I have the perfect one for this! Kaidan Alenko and Scott Ryder, haha, Mrylenko, a total of two fics exist on AO3, one of them mine I did for my MEBB, which is here. I never expected to love it as much as I did? It grew on me, and I’ve been blown away by the reception that fic has received, so thanks y’all.

Your unexpected ship: I would say Sterek? Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf? There is a lot of unmentioned sexual tension between those two and it just...haha its great. Plus their screen time interactions are my favorite. It’s not canon, as far as I know, though I’m two seasons behind, so maybe? Fingers crossed? 

The ship you always forget to give love to: Shoker, either Mshoker or Fshoker. Joker is an unsung hero to me and I’ll forever be salty he wasn’t a romance option.

Ship your OC with a canon character (if applicable): My only OC that I’ve written a story about is smitten and in love with the a different OC in the story, though he did have a huge crush on Kaidan Alenko and that biotic booty. Though really, who wouldn’t?

A ship you’re embarrassed to ship: Humm...honestly nothing really comes to mind? Though idk, maybe Destiel? Like, those damn producers keep pulling me back into Supernatural with destiel click bait, and I always fall for it. Thats a ship that will never happen, but damn it, they tease it so bad. ARG. So maybe I’m embarrassed that I always fall for it, idk. 

Your most romantic Ship: Sarah Kerrigan and Jim Reynor from Starcraft. Those two are a really damn close second as far as favorite pairing, right behind mshenko. I just love their story line and honestly, I felt like Heart of the Swarm was such an emotionally satisfying and also heart wrenching chapter in their saga. These two just, damn it they love each other a lot. 

Your sexiest ship: Mshenko. Kaidan Alenko and MCommander Shepard are just really good together. Idk if its the content that the fandom has created that has solidified them in my mind, or if it was their in game chemistry, back story, a culmination of all their trials together finally coming to fruition. I just love them and I love them together, and the thought of them doing sexy things together, being happy together, yeah, it just works for me.

Your most tragic ship: Ahh, I’m torn, I’m really torn about this. On one hand, we’ve got mshenko, two men who have finally found one another amidst the end of the world, and their time is short and frantic and god they are so in love. They might not have enough time, that after all this time, it could be over at any minute. It colors their relationship, this race against time, this impending doom. It breaks my heart and its why I will always choose Destroy, no matter what, because I want Shepard to live, I want him to be with Kaidan, and I want them to be happy.  On the other hand, I have Bonnie and Enzo, because I was so surprised in how much I loved them together. I think a lot of it was great acting, and lets be real, Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbs carried TVD for a long time, because Elena, Stefan and Damon were terrible and unsympathetic characters. Anyways, spoilers, but when you’re finally on board with BonniexEnzo and their finding their happiness together, Enzo dies. And fuck if I wasn’t there with Bonnie, crying tears because, I should have known, only Elena gets her happy ending, even as all of her friends suffer around her for it. OK I’M SALTY about how the final season went. 

A ship you want more content for: I am forever wanting more mshenko stories, the long fics, the ones that are 100k+ that take a while to get through. The ones that have interesting plots and twists and compelling story lines.

My FT questions answers

So regarding my previous post here are my answers to my Fairy Tail Questionnaire.

1.  How did you first heard about Fairy Tail?

From my friend Beth. I saw how much she liked it and when she suggested that I check it out I did. I have been hooked ever since. And it’s become my favorite anime of all time, because I never have been more emotionally invested in an anime before.

2. Do read the manga, watch the anime, or both?

I do both. Haven’t been watching the anime lately, but I’ve been keeping up with the manga now. BUT I HATE SPOILERS, SO DON’T TELL ME ANYTHING UNTIL THE TRANSLATION COMES OUT!

3. Who are your favorite character(s)?

I really love all of them, but my top 3 are:  

Levy McGarden, I like her because she’s a fellow bookworm, she’s cute, intelligent, and really needs to be the focus more often. Pantherlily. I love how he can go from this big creature, yet can change back into this small cute thing. He’s bad ass and adorable. I call him Badorable. And really my absolute favorite character is Gajeel Redfox. I could really talk for hours on why he’s my favorite, but to sum up I like him because he’s a complex character. 

A Complex character, also known as a Dynamic character or a Round character displays the following characteristics:

He or she undergoes an important change as the plot unfolds.

The changes he or she experiences occur because of his or her actions or experiences in the story.

Changes in the character may be good or bad.

Gajeel has done most of those things on that list.

And to be honest when he first appeared I really didn’t hate him. Yes what he did was wrong, especially regarding Team Shadowgear, but I had this small feeling, ever since I found out that he was a Dragon Slayer that he was going to be an ally to Fairy Tail, never expected him to join though. I’m so glad he did!

4. What is a character or characters that you absolutely hate? And not even love to hate, you wish they were never in the story to begin with.

Future Rogue. That bastard kill Future Lucy, and I will never forgive him for that. Even if he apologized. Seriously I cried so hard when I watched that part in the anime.

5. Do you own any FT merchandise?

The first 20 volumes of the manga, a Capricorn key charm, Natsu plush, Lily plush, small Happy loaf plush or Tsum Tsum, a Mirajane keychain, a Gajeel keychain, a notebook, exceed bracelet, a FT symbol keychain, a wallet, and 2 T-shirts.

I’m a NaLu fan that does not hate Lisanna at all. I hate how so many Nalu fans hate her just because she “gets in the way of NaLu”.

That’s one thing that bothers me with any fandom. When people hate on a character just because they get in they way of their precious OTP.

I’ve said it before, but I think that is a stupid reason to hate a character. If the only reason you hate a character is because they ruin a ship for you, kindly go back into your small corner of the world, where you can bitch and complain all you want like the immature brat that you are.

The rest of us adults, are going to ship what we want, and respect each other’s choices, and not hate on character solely for that purpose.

Lisanna did nothing wrong, and all those fan fics that portray her as this bitchy chick who “steals” Natsu from Lucy and makes Lucy all depressed and shit makes me want to gouge my eyes out every time I read one.

I respect the fact that some people don’t ship NaLu, I respect the fact that I don’t ship NaLi.

NOW CAN WE PLEASE ALL JUST GET ALONG AND BE NAKAMA LIKE WE’RE SUPPOSED TO BE?!

13. What is one thing about FT that pisses you off?

So many unanswered questions, for example WHERE THE HELL IS LAXUS’S MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER?! I KNOW HOW BABIES ARE MADE SO HOW THE HELL CAN IVAN AND LAXUS EXIST WITHOUT A MOTHER?!

At least we know about Makarov’s mom now.

And we do know more of the dragon slayers’ past, but I still have my headcanons about their biological parents, or at least Gajeel and Wendy’s. Like how Metalicana and Grandeeny found them. Let me know if you want to hear them. Bear in mind they are quite depressing.Don’t have any for Sting and Rouge. And as for Natsu, well I did have one, but that went out the window and I think you know why.

14. If you could put the FT cast into another show what would it be and why?

It’s a weird choice but I chose Scrubs. I could just see it. Natsu=JD (It be funny to see Natsu have all those crazy daydreams, wouldn’t it?) Lucy=Elliot (If Natsu and Lucy did live in another universe, I think they would be an on again off again couple until they were ready to be with each other.) Juvia=Carla (Putting Carla as Carla would be too obvious, and I know it doesn’t exactly match up, but I have this headcanon that Juvia can speak Spanish, because Juvia;s name is the Japanese spelling for the Spanish word rain or  lluvia) Gray=Turk (I know it doesn’t really fit, but had to keep him and Juvia together.) Laxus= Dr,Cox (Can you just imagine how funny it be if Laxus did a Cox rant?) Cana=Jordan (I feel a relationship between Laxus and Cana would be like the one Jordan has with Dr.Cox) Gajeel=Janitor (One of the best characters in the show, and it be funny to see Gajeel prank Natsu) Levy=Lady (She’s the Janitor’s girlfriend and later wife in Season 8) Hades= Dr. Kelso (Hades is evil but a recent chapter in the Tartarus arc showed that he kind of still has a heart, so that’s why I picked him)

Freed=Ted (I just think it be funny)

Loke=The Todd (both are bit of playboys and be funny to see Loke question his sexuality) I do have others, but they’re only characters that appeared in one or two seasons so I’m not going to bother.

I know about leaving hooks/cliffies at the end of chapters, but since I don't really write long fic, do you have any tips for how to keep readers interested? Most of the TV shows I drop off weren't doing anything wrong. I just got to where I didn't really care about what happens anymore. How do we avoid that as writers?

ah! i, too, have quit tv shows because they went off the rails or otherwise started to disappoint me. take doctor who, for instance... 

but here we’re getting into a whole other issue, i feel. how to prevent the real time readers you do have on a wip from losing interest, regardless of how quickly you can update.

i’m not sure i’m the most qualified person to ask, since i’m still a fairly amateur writer and trying to figure out how to do that myself (i’m only on my second multichap ever, after all). but i can offer some insights based on what i’ve experienced so far.

(this is going to be geared towards romance-centered fanfiction, since this is the only genre i’ve ever written.)

five pointers, in no particular order:

keep the focus on the ship. 

fanfic is unique in that if a reader opens up your story, it’s because they already love the ship you’re writing. the relationship is what they’re reading for. as such, they will lose interest if there are too many side plots detracting from /their/ story, or too many/too much focus on original characters. side plots and original characters can be great additions to stories, but always bring it back to your main characters, and how the events of the story affect and/or enrich their relationship.

conversely, if you know ahead of time that a non-relationship-related plot is central to the story, or an original character will play a major role, be sure to devote the proper time and effort into developing it. help the reader care about that plot or character. show (don’t tell) them why it’s important. treat the story or the character as though it had to stand on its own, then show how it weaves into your main characters’ storyline. readers will be much more likely to embrace the presence of a unique plot or character in a story if it’s properly introduced AND tied together. poorly constructed or disconnected plots or oc’s will only serve to distract from the ship and bore readers.

be original. 

and by that, i don’t mean that you should avoid tropes or prompt sites. or that if someone else has written a fic on your proposed topic, you should choose something else. rather, i mean to find some way to tell a story that’s been told a thousand times (this is what the world of fanfiction is, after all) in a new way.

find some unique element that you can add to their relationship that no one else has done before. introduce a conflict you’ve never encountered in your reading before. start your story somewhere in the canon timeline that’s less common. create new context for canon events, or explore the time between episodes or films in new ways. 

remember that as a fic author, you have the advantage of people already being invested in your main characters. at the end of the day, readers will happily read about the same tropes and story arcs over and over, as long as they’re told from a fresh new perspective or in a unique style.

use cliffhangers - with discretion.

it’s definitely okay to make use of cliffhangers, and they can be very effective! but don’t abuse this feature, either. having terribly rude cliffhangers on every chapter could deter some readers. 

a better way to think about this would be to ensure that, at the end of each chapter, the reader has something to look forward to. some unanswered question, some unresolved tension. you never want a reader to feel like all the current conflict has been resolved by the end of a chapter (save that for the end of the story). you want to keep them wondering what will come next. 

whether or not you include smut, do it wisely.

it’s every author’s decision whether or not to include explicit content in a fic. and tbh, 99% of the readers i’ve encountered don’t care if a fic has smut or not. however, most do like to be informed ahead of time which it’s going to be, so they know what to expect (or what not to expect).

but if you are going to include smut, don’t do it just for the sake of smut itself. one-shots are the appropriate place to put ‘pwp’, so to speak. any sex should feel right to you - and your characters - and come into the storyline at the right time for them and their situation. otherwise, it doesn’t belong. if you do decide that your characters will get physical at some point, keep in mind that if any ust you’ve built between them is resolved too quickly, that can often cause interest to evaporate.

on the flipside, if you decide to go smut-free, great! there are a multitude of ways your characters can show affection and become more intimate without sex. nice, fluffy, romantic smut-free fics are fantastic in and of themselves. you can challenge yourself to build a romance without using sex as a crutch. explore an asexual headcanon. tackle a relationship issue that’s independent from the physical.

that being said, please be polite to your readers by not leading them on. they’re going to get excited right along with your characters. stories with thousands of words of UST and detailed foreplay but no follow through are downright maddening. if you tantalize readers with descriptions of kissing and touching and undressing then fade to black, just be aware that many people won’t endure that kind of teasing.

be very mindful of characterization. 

thoughts, actions, dialogue, all of it. put yourself in your characters’ shoes. crawl inside their head. for every word they say, every decision they make, ensure that it’s true to their personality. that it makes sense for the stage of life they’re in, the state of mind they’re in, and the person they’re with (especially if it’s the other half of your ship). know canon very well, and use it as a guide. don’t hesitate to think to yourself: ‘can i hear this character saying this?’ or ‘can i see this character doing this?’ you don’t ever want a reader to say to themselves ‘... x character would never do/say that.’

fanfic is a double-edged sword in a way. i mentioned earlier that it’s to your advantage that readers are already attached to your main characters. it can also be a disadvantage, at times, because it also means they expect the characters to behave and speak a certain way. and if you don’t deliver /throughout/ the story, it can send a reader fleeing very fast, even if the story is already half finished.

Can’t believe it’s been a whole damn year since I created Hetalia Tomodachi Life. So I thought I’d make a little list of things that happened in the game that made me laugh, or get mad, or something. (Warning: it’s long!)

1. China is a dirty old man who pursues young women. Especially Nyo!Russia. He went after her at least a dozen times before she got married. Then he just started picking random girls left and right. For those familiar with Vinesauce Tomodachi Life, he’s basically Karl, except he actually gets the girl a couple of times, only to break up. His boy charm score typically sits at the -200 mark.

2. Denmark has been my best friend since the very beginning. Early on, everybody on the island, including us, shipped us together and wanted us to go out. I, the look-alike, wanted none of that, and foiled every single attempt. I got so mad that I made a song about it. But anyway, HTL Denmark is even cuter than canon Denmark. If I had to besties with anyone, I’m glad it’s him.

3. Estonia was a typical school nerd (still is) and Spain, the “baddest of the Bad Friends,” was his bully. Nowadays, the two get along fairly well, even making an agreement to leave their past behind them.

4. Nyo!Macau, a character with no canon personality whatsoever, actually wound up as one of my favorite characters. After I gave her the Meadow interior, I thought to myself that it kinda looked like the standard Windows 7 (?) desktop. Combined with her voice, I got it in my head that she was the personification of Windows, so I changed her name to that. Later, she started dating Ladonia. Fitting, since he’s the Internet future boy. But she’s WAY older than him. So then I got it in my mind that she was an old cougar. So. Her name’s now pronounced “the old cougar,” although one of her phrases is still “Error,” a leftover from her Windows days.

5. Austria had a jester phase. Seriously. I even made the game pronounce it “Jestria” for a time. Basically, I gave him a jester outfit and he just kept wearing it all the time. I eventually got sick of it and made him wear women’s clothes and other ridiculous outfits, which he still does to this day.

6. Nyo!New Zealand is all white. Empty white interior, white-painted hair, and only white clothes. It is white on white on white. I honestly can’t remember why I started doing that, but I did, and I will not stop until I have given her every white hat and outfit that I can possibly give her. Somehow she still hasn’t made it up to the top of my most pampered list.

7. Sealand is permanently known in my head as “Piss Stain.” There was this one time when he had a fight with New Zealand. He was wearing an all-yellow outfit (a body suit, I think), and I thought to myself, wow, he looks like a piss stain amidst all this white. Ta-da! Piss Stain. I think it fits his canon bratty personality, too. I can see England calling him that.

8. Rome x Liechtenstein is a thing. And they are boring as fuck, despite all odds. They don’t do anything of interest, and so far, they’re the ones who have had my least favorite baby by far. And they’re showing no signs of breaking up anytime soon. Fuck. At least Nyo!Russia x Finland was interesting, even if they pissed me off for reasons I don’t know.

9. Oh by the way, Nyo!Russia is married to Nyo!Belarus. HUZZAH!!! Now have a fucking kid already.

10. Fart Voice Bulgaria. I don’t know. I gave him the lowest-pitched but also squeakiest and, well, fartiest voice I could. I ran with it. I also love fucking around with how the game pronounces things in his voice, making his angry phrase nothing but a string of euro signs. It just sounds like “Yurururururuurururururu.” It’s hilarious. He has a son with a voice that’s just as glorious. I made a song about it. Bulgaria is proud of Nathan’s voice and likes to show it off. Nathan himself is ashamed.

11. Nyo!Germany and Romano were the first couple to get married and have a baby. Their first baby was all right. Nothing too exciting. Their second baby was a tree-hugging hippie.

12. France is called “Daddy.” It was a stupid joke. But one of the news clips made it amazing. The news about how a burger with a random-food ingredient completely fails, and it’s at the restaurant called “Big [islander name]’s.” It randomly picked France’s name, so the restaurant’s name is pronounced “Big Daddy’s.” It was so glorious I had to make his full name Francois “Big Daddy” Bonnefoy.

13. Luxembourg was given the catchphrase “High-claas!” That is not a typo or misspell. I accidentally typed “claas” instead of “class” and I liked how it sounded, so I kept it. lol

14. Nyo!Iceland is a wannabe fish. (Or a mermaid. But I like “wannabe fish” more.) She has the Seabed apartment and her worried phrase is “Time to spawn!” because I’m a weird fucker like that.

15. Somehow Japan always raised his hand to the really dirty Quirky Questions. Nice to know, dude...

16. EGYPT IS BORING AS FUCK GOOD GOD. I don’t like any coupling with him in it. Seriously considering deleting him even though he’s a mainstay. Also, I figured out a way to make him say “...” without the game pronouncing it as anything (normally it says “dot”). There’s period marks in the Greek keyboard. Those will stay silent. All of his phrases are “...”

17. Nyo!South Korea is also known as “That Bitch” with a trademark sign. Thing is, the game actually says “trademark sign” in her catchphrase. It’s soooo good. Plus, her best friend is Nyo!Poland, a catty girl herself. They’re absolutely perfect alpha bitches together. Her husband Australia was likewise given the catchphrase “She’s MY bitch!” They had two beautiful children.

18. Nyo!Spain is a teacher who’s hot for at least one of her students, and has no qualms about asking them out.

19. Spain and Nyo!New Zealand make the CUTEST babies. Too bad I have a strict two-per-couple limit. Also that they, uh, divorced. (Their son, Elijah, is a wannabe supervillain. Or is he just a wannabe...?)

20. There are two Carters. That’s Seychelles and Hong Kong’s son. The first one is forever stuck as a traveler on This Damn Island (who even streetpasses around here). The second one was recreated and lives on the island, but has a love for travel.

21. Winter is still the funniest character by virtue of how out of place he is.

22. For the longest time, I just typed the characters’ names and let the game try to pronounce them, and just run with it. (Now I actually try to get the game to pronounce them as correctly as it can.) This is especially hilarious when listening to the game mangle Finland’s or Chris’s (Russwe) last names. But even some of the simpler-seeming names get mispronounced - Natasha, notably, gets pronounced as “NAT-uh-shuh” without further fixing.

23. I made sure Nyo!Latvia’s name got as many A’s tacked on to the end as I could. It’s still funny.

24. Greece started life as a furry. Now he’s not, at least not openly. I remember calling him into his apartment when he was in a good mood, and as I’m searching through the menu, he says “Let’s get laid!” and I completely lost it. I did NOT remember giving him that phrase. The other great phrase of his is “Fuck Sadik!!1!” which he pronounces as “fuck SAD-ik exclamation point one.” It’s hilarious in his slow, monotone, dead voice.

25. Switzerland is another character whose voice is hilariously out of character for him. It’s high-pitched and the pitch curves upward at the end of his sentences. He’s still as pissy as he is in canon, with phrases like “GET OUT!!!” and “I’ll shoot!” This combination makes him one of my favorite islanders.

26. For whatever stupid reason, I gave Liechtenstein surfer dude slang for phrases. She also lives in the Ring (like, a boxing/wrestling ring) apartment. Maybe it’s just me, but Liechtenstein is my favorite character to make out-of-character.

27. Serenity, born to Japan and Nyo!Norway, is by far my favorite baby. Owen, Chris, Elijah, Alyssa, Sophie, and Nathan are really good, too. The HTL babies are my OC’s and I will cherish them. Don’t know if I’ll make fics with them or not...

28. Nyo!Lithuania is known as “Heartbreaker.” Why? Because she divorced Denmark on Valentine’s Day, and she’s only been dumping guys ever since. Although she has hung on to Romania for a while now...

29. Finland is known as “That Finnish Ass-Hall” (can’t say “asshole” in the game). I hated him for dating Nyo!Russia and being extremely persistent about marrying her. I don’t even know why I hated them so much, I just did. He still has his phrase “Fukk off, Yao!” from the days when he was chasing after her booty.

30. Nyo!Canada used to have the phrase “Please, Daddy...” because she dated France (”Daddy”) for a while. I’ve since changed it because it was weird, plus she’s married to Turkey, but I might change it back...

31. I originally planned for Nyo!Ukraine to be a total friendless loser, even giving him the phrase “I’m a loser.” Mostly because of my headcanon that he just has no confidence in relationships. Except, he made a lot of friends really fast, and it was Ripper, Nyo!France, and Monaco who were the friendless losers for the longest time.

32. Italy is living in the haunted mansion interior. For reasons.

33. I’ve noticed that in Judgment Bay, characters tend to form the same groups over and over again, and I’ve made some songs out of the results, such as “Slaughter Planet Earth” (all three Italy brothers, Australia, Nyo!Lithuania, America, Nyo!Prussia) and “Just You and I Here” (America and Nyo!South Korea, and later Owen).

34. Oh, yeah. There was that series I did with Egypt and Sweden where the lyrics to all the songs were just “..........................................” and “mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.” One of the songs crashes every time lmao.

And that’s all I have for now. Damn, I invested a lot into this game.
