📽️ YOU ARE THE DIRECTOR
Tumblr media
you’re literally the director, producer, muse, screenwriter and cast of your dream life, your muse is who you want to be, the screenwriter does all the work behind the scenes and the script and basically everything that goes into making the movie the movie.
what you put into your screenplay (whether it’s aff tapes, living in the end, embodying your dream life or doing sats) everything you put into your screenplay dictates the outcome of your movie (your dream life)
you literally need to be the best method actor in the world and feel your dream life so it can harden into your dream reality. when someone is preparing for a role reading the script doesn’t get them far they need to transform into that character so they can perform to the best of their abilities
make your own rules, how are other people going to tell you what to do like hello?? the law is about you and literally nobody else this is your movie who cares if you wanna do whatever you want if you think doing methods are beneficial go for it at the end of the day it’s your life and you have the power in your hands. we all want an award winning life full of success, love and happiness and it is coming!! congratulations in advance
you find manifesting difficult because you make it difficult for yourself, you complicate it for yourself by over-consuming and fixating on methods that’s why you feel stagnant!! affirm and persistence goes a long way i promise it seems like people throw around this term all the time but it’s literally true that’s what makes loa easy
”your desired state already exists but is excluded from view. an assumption brings it into sight by changing your perspective.” - neville goddard
— ༊ xtra hehe i hope this analogy makes sense at the end of the day this is your life and your creation you are in control and it is finished you have your dream life you are the director of your own life and destiny ⁺ this is literally sats but i loveeee affirming and making my own short films in my head knowing that when i wake up i will live in that moment
— ༊ i hope you find this useful!! i’ve been crazy consistent lately even im scaring myself (@etherealkissed88 definitely has some of my favorite loa content!! you should definitely follow her) that’s pretty much all i have to say have a good day/afternoon or night and good luck on your journey because it’s already done

the main problem people have with this reboot is that making it is just plain disrespectful. brandon lee literally put his heart and soul into this role and ended up dying for it. for all his life he had been in his father’s shadow and this movie was supposed to be his breakout role and help him step into the light, but it ended up being his final act due to negligence.
the whole setting of the movie based on the trailer just doesn’t look right. the original had this unique 90’s gothic setting and i get that it’s a remake and they’re trying to go for something modern but that just takes away from the crow’s entire charm. even the soundtrack sounds horrible and don’t even mention the character designs… there’s no soul in the movie.
then there’s also the fact that in the original, eric and shelly are completely innocent, they fought for what was wrong and ended up being killed for it. in the reboot trailer it seems like they both were inmates and met in prison?? huh???? the whole point is that they’re completely normal people that get something terrible done to them. that’s why the crow brought eric back in the first place.
there’s also supposed to be a clear distinction between eric before he died and after. in the original it’s very obvious how much he has changed. he went from a normal guy to a man mad with grief. but in this reboot he just kinda… looks and acts the same? he goes from a wannabe soundcloud rapper to a wannabe soundcloud rapper with bad makeup on, there seems to be no personality change. there's plenty of examples like these where they've completely missed the mark. in the comics there’s multiple people that become a crow, not just eric draven. they could’ve used one of those characters to continue the story.
i know you can’t judge an entire movie based on a short trailer but just the circumstances surrounding the first movie is enough of a reason to not like it. even the author of the comic didn’t want to remake it cause he himself thought it was unnecessary and disrespectful but he ended up working with them anyway so they didn’t completely butcher it. many reboots have been made throughout the years of various films but there’s a reason people are SO pissed off with this specific one. because, unlike other reboots, this movie had it’s lead actor die on set while filming. the crow is like a memorial to brandon lee, they weren’t even planning on releasing it but his family and fiancé encouraged them. brandon died only a few weeks before his wedding, similar to how his character died only a day before his. the movie is literally dedicated to him and his fiancé and it states that at the end of the movie.
the original crow is a constant reminder of the tragedy and what could’ve been which is why it’s so bittersweet, which further adds to the setting and overall mood of the film. the creator, actors of the original movie and even brandon lee’s friends and family didn’t want the reboot to be made and if that’s not telling then i don’t know what is. i do feel for bill skarsgård and the rest of the cast, they must’ve worked so hard only to be criticized but this reboot should never have been made in the first place, because it’ll never live up to the original.

tipsy / matias recalt
summary: matias is drunk and won’t get to bed.
tw: smut (fingering / f!receiver)
words count: 1.5k
author’s note: sorry this is kinda short but its my first time writing smut
“matias, let's go to sleep. you can barely keep your eyes open.”
like almost every evening after the end of filming, the whole cast gathered to relax after a busy day, and this time she had offered to host everyone at her house. the evening was quiet, she had bought something to drink and all the guests were currently on the balcony chatting and laughing. their voices reached the living room, where they were, muffled. she had remained there, without joining the others, to help matias who, given that he had been drinking quite a bit, was quite tipsy and was about to fall asleep on the sofa.
he raised an arm in her direction as if to push those words out of the air "what are you talking about, i swear i'm wide awake." he mumbled, his eyes half closed. “mati, come on.” sighing, she took his hand to at least get him off the couch. but he wouldn't hear of it and he refused to move, leaving him lying where he was. there was nothing else that could be done to convince him to go to sleep, but maybe…
she lowered herself to her knees, so that her face was at the same height as her boyfriend's, and whispering softly in his ear she said "if you don't come to bed now, i won't sleep with you tonight." she told him in a warm and mischievous voice, and in front of that threat, matias couldn't do anything but get up suddenly from the sofa, unable to refuse that offer. he took her by the hand, excited due to the alcohol, and without looking back he walked down the narrow corridor that led to his girlfriend's room.
after she told him this, he immediately changed his mind, happy to be able to spend another night with her. as soon as they entered the small dark room, lit only by the light coming from the street, matias, after closing the door, staggered towards the bed, where he fell, causing all the springs to creak.
“mati, be quiet!” she said softly, so as not to make a mess and alarm the others who were right next to them: the window of her room looked directly onto the balcony.
she walked over to the bed and said “let’s get you to bed, a’ight?” matias nodded in response with his eyes closed. she started at him for a while waiting for him to get ready to go to bed. “mati you need to take your clothes off, i'm not getting you in my bed with this filthy shirt.” “my shirt is not filthy!” he answered in an offended tone. “it literally smells like smoke and alcohol, mati.” she said, moving closer to him to smell what he was wearing, making a disgusted face.
"okay okay. but can you help me?” matias asked in a soft tone, like he was embarrassed to ask such thing "all right." she replied, positioning herself between his legs to begin taking off his shirt. as soon as her cold fingers touched his boyfriend's skin, he hissed at that sudden contact, but recovered immediately as soon as she took off his shirt. letting the collar over his head, it ruffled his hair, which was now a mess. she laughed at the sight as she reached down to take off his pants as well. as soon as those were removed too, he fell onto his back on the bed, sighing.
“i’ll be back in a while to see how you’re doing, okay?” she asked while opening the door, ready to get out and enjoy the night with her friends.
"where are you going?" he asked in alarm, suddenly getting up from the bed and reaching her at the edge of the door. his voice was worried. “i'm going to join the others, i'll be back soon, mati.”
“please stay with me.” the boy took her hand in his, looking into her eyes, begging her to stay with him and not go anywhere else. she looked at him for an answer, but in his eyes she only found a plea not to leave him alone.
“alright.” in the end she accepted, closing the door slowly behind her, trying not to create any suspicion among the guests. she went to her closet, and in the dim light looked for her pajamas. “come here, i'll help you.” his hand took her waist and brought her closer to the bed. the boy sat down on her blankets, finding herself standing between his legs. his hands slowly caressed her hips under her dress and, taking the fabric, began to remove it. he took his time, gently caressing her body as if it were glass. at that contact she shivered but let go when matias' warm hands reached her hips, once her dress had been removed.
the atmosphere shifted quickly when the boy, patting on his lap, told her “come, sit.” she obeyed immediately, sitting on his legs, trembling. it was as if the effect of the alcohol had worn off and matias had returned to normal. he was now ready to make her feel good, as he always had done. he began with an innocent kiss on her temple, moving down to the corners of her mouth, her neck, her chest. she could feel her skin burn under his touch.
“mati…” she said softly, lost in his touch“you have to go to sleep, you're too drunk.” she told him trying to ignore the warm feeling that was slowly making its way inside her. he mumbled under his breath, tracing kisses along her jaw. “c’mon.” she got up rejecting that feeling and regaining clarity.
when they finally got under the covers she faced the wall, trying to sleep and to ignore the pulsing sensation between her legs. he barely touched her and she was already a mess.
she felt matias turning over in the bed, looking for the perfect position to sleep, which ultimately turned out to be the spoon. his body was tightly attached to hers, and one of his hands found its way around her waist, squeezing it. she could feel his hot breath against her ear, and sighed in release.
he murmured, feeling her relax at his touch and his hand began to wander cautiously on her skin. when she felt his fingers approaching her panties, she knew what was about to happen. she held her breath, waiting for him to act. and when his hand slipped inside, she let out a gasp. “what, bebè?”
she wanted to answer, but she just couldn’t, with the chaos of emotion she was feeling, all at once. instead, she let out a soft moan as his fingers barely touched her folds. he began to trace soft kisses on her shoulder, she could feel the cold of his earring behind her neck.
when suddenly one of his fingers entered her, she gasped out loud “shhh, they’re gonna hear us.” matias said in a whisper, while his finger moved in and out of her. "or worse, see us." she bit her lower lip, trying to stay quiet and stifle a moan that almost escaped her mouth.
matias' finger then moved at a faster pace, outside and inside her. when his fingers became two she felt like she couldn't hold on any longer and began to tremble slowly, while he praised her. "you're being so good, my good girl, right?" he whispered in her ear and waited for an answer that never came, so he repeated "right?" trying to catch her breath, between moans she replied "y-yes..."
"that's right." he said in a husky voice, making her shiver. her moans along with his breathing echoed through the room, and the sounds he was making slipping his fingers in and out her entrance were obscene. his other hand reached one of her breasts, groping it and began to squize her nipple.
she couldn't take it anymore, feeling a liquid sensation growing inside her and when matias' fingers curled slightly, she let out a loud moan. “do you want everyone to hear how good i’m making you feel?” he dared, biting her ear softly. those dirty words did nothing but excite her more, just at the thought of being seen.
matias' fingers were now going in and out of her entrance at an embarrassing speed, causing her legs to tremble. the feeling in her womb deepened as his tired voice continued to speak in her ear "you're so good, just for me. mi mami." those words sent her out and, whimpering, she felt her liquids leaking out and soaking matias' fingers. closing her eyes, she tried to catch her breath as she mumbled dumb his name over and over again, suffering from the orgasm.
"you did so good, baby." he praised her, as they faced each other. he wiped a tear from her eye, kissing it softly, and gifting her a smile.
their lips finally met, crushing in a passionate smile as their tongues intertwined and matias groaned softly in her mouth. as they parted she said "you still smells like alcohol, mati." placing a hand on his bare chest.
"you didn't seem to mind it before." he replied, winking.

Queue Interview with the Dead Boy Detectives Cast 👻🔎
This is going to be a long post! (These are my favourite parts from the interview!)
George Rexstrew as Edwin Payne
Acting Inspiration
Oh, gosh. Well there are so many. Meryl Streep, obviously. Viola Davis, obviously. More recently, I was blown away by Enzo Vogrincic in Society of the Snow. And Eden Dambrine in Close.
Tumblr media
Cast Camaraderie
I loved working with all my co-stars. I’m practically related to Jayden [Revri] and Kassius [Nelson] at this point. Yuyu [Kitamura] is a dream. Jenn [Lyon] is mother hen. Bri[ana Cuoco] is the cool older sister. Josh[ua Colley] is the cheeky cousin. Ruth [Connell] is the godmother who gives you a card and £20 for your birthday. It really is one big happy dysfunctional family. I’m grateful for all of them, on and off camera.
Tumblr media
Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland
Dressing The Part
These heads of departments, and Monique and Kelli, [they’re] unbelievable. They were so collaborative. We went through different hairstyles and different things we could do with the makeup. We added a bit of eyeliner for [Charles] just to make it feel more 80s. And then Kelli, I mean, it was like she did her research on me. She added badges to the jacket which kind of represented me as Jayden, before I even got there. It wasn’t until I got the haircut, put the makeup on, put the costume on, and I was like, Okay, this is Charles.
Tumblr media
Cast Camaraderie.
The vibe was just incredible. Me and George, we really wanted to set the tone for the series and make sure that everyone’s having fun and it’s an environment where we could all talk about how we’re feeling. We were just such a big support blanket for each other. If there was ever a time that somebody needed space, or they wanted to prep themselves for a certain scene they were going to film, we all respected that and we were each other’s cheerleaders the whole entire time. And it’s still the same to this day now. I think it really shows when you watch the series that we all knew what we were making and we wanted to make something that we would want to watch, which we’ve all done. I cannot shout out my castmates enough. Forever grateful.
Tumblr media
Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace
Acting Inspiration
I watched a lot of animation. I used to watch the Addams Family, the black-and-white one, because I didn’t have Disney Channel or anything. Monk, Murder She Wrote, I was watching those things, so maybe I was actually destined to play a detective, now that I’m thinking about it. I watched a lot of cartoons and animations. I just liked the idea that I could be engrossed in another world. And I always wanted to know what happened next, or when the film finished, I would be like, “Okay, but then what? What happens after that?” And now I get to be part of that question or that answer (...).
Tumblr media
Dressing the Part
We have a fantastic costume designer, Kelli Dunsmore. I always say that she literally wove the story into the fabric of the clothes, because there are things that she foreshadowed in the clothing that happened episodes later. Or, if characters start to get in some sort of relationship with each other, that will be reflected in the clothes that they wear or the colors that they have. Or, if they’re feeling any type of emotion, (...)l. Crystal wears these massive platform boots that must be about four or five inches. They’re huge, very heavy, but it’s funny because they change the way that you walk. (...) She’s not very light, which makes sense with the things that she’s going through and the experiences that she’s having. Practically, it helped, because Jayden and George are like six-foot-something. So, if I film a scene and I’m at the bottom of the lens and they’re up there, that helped. I’ve got a good couple inches on my feet.
Tumblr media
Yuyu Kitamura as Niko Sasaki
Acting Inspiration
Sandra Oh is a woman that I will forever be indebted to because who she was on Grey’s Anatomy was so formative for me. The most interesting thing about her character was not that she was Asian, but that she was such a fully fleshed person with flaws and amazing qualities. And her work ever since I think has been iconic, so she’s a woman that I deeply look up to.
Tumblr media
Landing the role in Dead Boy Detectives
I auditioned from Hong Kong and my dad was my reader because all of my acting friends were in New York. My dad was able to carve out time and be an amazing reader. And in that audition side, it’s the scene where Niko gets to see the “Dead Boys” for the first time, and there’s a line in there that was something along the lines of me talking to Edwin and asking, “Do you two make out with each other?” And my dad stopped the tape and he was like, “What are you reading for?” And I was like, “Don’t give me notes, it’s fine!” And so that was the audition process! I think within a month I found out I got the part and it’s been an absolute dream ever since.
Tumblr media
Dressing the Part
(...) I think on paper Niko can seem like a certain type of character, but even in the choice of every costume we did, every color that she wears, every meticulous little piece about everything from her nails to her room, it’s so well curated and thought out. Through her journey, we also find that she’s a woman that wears what she feels. On the surface, she might seem like the most joyful, young, optimistic girl, but it’s the inner confidence and bravery where we find that she’s layered, and she is very much a young woman coming of age.

so there's a lot, A LOT, I could say about James Somerton's apology, such as his avoiding discussing things like misinformation and his misogyny, his insane justification for his plagiarism (as a person who makes history content I often copy-paste things over into a word doc because I get tired of switching between tabs, and I have NEVER mistaken something for mine because the FONT is often different but also, even if the font is the same, I know my own writing style well enough to know when something isn't mine), the mentioning of his poor family background ("my dad is illiterate because he had to drop out when he was 7...you know, which is usually around the time that kids have already been taught how to read, RIGHT! I'M GOING WITH THAT!"), etc, etc, etc.
The thing I do want to talk about is his "filmmaking dreams". Mostly because as another Canadian filmmaker, his excuses are bullshit. If James Somerton actually wanted to be a filmmaker, to just make movies, he already would've made at least several shorts. And yes, it is completely possible. It would be difficult, and they probably wouldn't have been masterpieces, but it is absolutely possible. If his support system was as good as he says it was in Nova Scotia, if he had as many other creative minds around him, he would've been out shooting stuff. Hell, I've spent the last few months mapping out a new script, that I'm literally starting to shoot NEXT WEEK. If he wanted to make something, HE WOULD.
And even so, his justifications for continuing to change projects are also batshit. Let's say that I write a script in November, and I want to shoot in June, which is apparently the situation that he found himself in. That is about 7 - 8 months. That is plenty, PLENTY, of time to finish a script, find a crew, nail down some locations, secure some more funding, and cast. Plenty. This idea that he had to change because his film required a summer element and he had to change because of the weather is crazy to me.
Not only that, but there are plenty of film support groups in Canada, focused on producing Canadian content. For example, there's Telefilm, which will give you money, even match your crowdfunding up to a certain number, as well as plenty of other groups. If he had actually wanted to make movies, he would've been asking them for money. You know, groups who will LEGALLY hold you accountable if a film isn't made.
All of this to say is that James Somerton doesn't want to make movies. I doubt he gets any actual joy out of the process of creation at all. He wants to be admired. He wants the glitz and glam of being a filmmaker without doing any of the hard work. He's a lazy creator at the end of the day, and he will find any justification, ANY, to not do the work, whether it's stealing from other creators to "raise their voice" or switching projects again and again and again in an attempt to justify keeping the money that his fans gave him.

Bengiyo's Queer Cinema Syllabus
I am currently working my way through Unit 4: Heartbreak Alley, the totally light-hearted, definitely not agonizing section of @bengiyo's queer cinema syllabus where I get to watch countless acts of violence be committed against queer people. Thank fuck I have Lesbians waiting for me at the end of this unit. The films in Unit 4 are: Bent (1997), Strange Fruit (2004),Boys Don’t Cry (1999), Brokeback Mountain (2005), Parting Glances (1986), Philadelphia (1993), The Living End (1992), Holding the Man (2015), Jeffery (1995), and Boys on the Side (1995).
Today i will be talking about
Philadelphia (1993) dir. Jonathan Demme
Tumblr media
[Run Time: 2:05, Available on: YouTube for rent, Google Play, Amazon, Lang: English]
Summary: When a man with HIV is fired by his law firm because of his condition, he hires a homophobic small time lawyer as the only willing advocate for a wrongful dismissal suit.
Cast: * Tom Hanks as Andrew Beckett * Denzel Washington as Joe Miller * Antonio Banderas as Miguel
___
To steal a comment from @lurkingshan, it has been awhile since I’ve watched a good legal thriller. Philadelphia is brilliant, and I don’t just mean in the general sense, I mean it is smart. It is smart in how it sets itself up. We start with Andy and Joe on opposites sides of a court room, we can see the rapport between them, but we set them up on opposite sides from the beginning. We move from there to Andy at the hospital, receiving his transfusions, looking across the way to a man whose karposi’s sarcoma has advanced to the end stages a look to where Andy himself will end in this film. And then to Andy’s law office where there is physical touch, after physical touch, after physical touch. Some that happen so quickly, others that linger, that the camera focuses in on, and I only wish that we’d seen Andy the day after that meeting, because I would be curious to see if and how the physical touches changed with people in the office.
But that’s not what we get, and we don’t really need it because what is truly important is that Andy is sicker than he originally let on. The point is that the law firm set Andy up while he was away. The point is that at so many stages in this film I was mad. And that was how I was supposed to be. I was mad at all the homophobic pieces of shit that were sitting there making excuses, that based a significant portion of their legal argument about not discriminating against Andy because he was gay with HIV, by trying to discredit Andy’s character because he was gay. [and of course the law office used a woman as their representation and had a Black man at their table as well…you know they were really trying to look good]
Tumblr media
gif by @rancidtofu
You might know by now that I love a complicated relationship, so I was really thrilled that Joe eventually decided to represent Andy. Because Joe was homophobic as fuck, and he very much did not want to take the case. But again this film is smart, we never have to hear from Joe’s mouth or anyone’s for that matter that Joe decided to work with Andy after seeing how he was being treated by the librarian, but we know there’s no way it isn’t informed by experiences of racism in Black communities. The way Joe was stared at by a library worker when he was sitting at his table, the way Andy was stared at by a library worker when he was sitting at his table. The way Andy was being suggestively ushered away to somewhere out of view to other library patrons.
I loved that Joe was viciously homophobic because it demonstrates so well the boundary between work and personal life. Joe is able to do his job and do it well, and eventually after months of working with Andy, is able to come around, even touching Andy’s face which we know even has a lesion on it, by the end of the film. That is huge from someone that started the film literally running immediately to the doctor to make sure he didn’t have AIDS from shaking Andy’s hand. From a modern lens I can totally see how that would probably feel stereotypical or derivative or something like that but I think it is important to keep in mind that this film was one of the first Hollywood movies to feature HIV/AIDS and also portray gay people in a positive light. I haven’t actually been adding the for/by/about designations to the Heartbreak Alley films because something about doing that didn’t really sit right to me when we’re discussing the violence to and death of queer people. But this film definitely was not made for queer people, and Tom Hanks acknowledges that he was cast in the role for his “non-intimidating screen persona” and that “one of the reasons people weren’t afraid of this movie was because I was playing a gay man.”
The casting here was strategic to further assist audiences in sympathizing with a gay, HIV positive character.
Tumblr media
gif by @rancidtofu
I really love all the little moments of solidarity, the smiles between the Black secretary at the law office and Joe because They Know™ about experiences of discrimination in the workplace. The solidarity between the secretary with AIDS and Andy. I loved that a Black woman was teaching Andy how to apply make up to cover his lesions. I loved that Andy’s entire family knew that he was gay, knew he had AIDS, knew he had a partner and that they all loved and accepted him, and that he had so many people in his life that truly, well, and deeply cared for him.
And I love how that is used to deliver maximum emotional impact, at least to me, in one single stupid opera line.
I genuinely enjoyed essentially sitting in a court room for two hours watching Joe strategize, and execute his traps for the jury to win them over. I love how you know that they have won the second that a juror repeats verbatim a line Joe had said repeatedly throughout the trial. I am grateful the film was kind enough to let Andy be awake and alert enough to know that they had won. That his one of his last acts on earth was getting to engage with the part of law he loved most: “that every once in awhile, not often, but occasionally, you get to play a part in justice being done” Justice was done here, Joe and Andy both played a role in what could potentially become another precedented case in the roster to build towards a stronger future for gay people in the workplace. I think that (though likely coupled with how much his body was beginning to fail) is what finally made him ready to go. Because for so much of this film he would hesitate when it came to death.
Tumblr media

He froze over the line “the actual physical [death]” when quoting the line about AIDS causing a social death. He talked about planning his memorial to try to get a reaction out of Miguel, and when Miguel gave him a response he very much did not want to hear “maybe you should” he took Miguel to a party, he talked about opera instead of practicing his Q&A.
I am grateful the film ends at his memorial, not just for the memories, though I am especially glad it ends on a video of Andy as a child (to appeal to the ‘he was somebody’s kid type of crowd) but that the memorial was not entirely gloomy. There was life, there was conversation, there were smiles, it made things feel more real. Just like all “see you tomorrow” lies everyone knew they were telling themselves felt real.
Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington are such powerhouses of actors and I am so so grateful that they did this project together.
Favorite Scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I am acknowledging that these gifs by @antoniosbanderas have nothing to do with my listed favorite scene, but I just need you all to know that the scene of these two laying in bed was cut from the final edit of the film, so I didn't actually get to watch it, so now you know it exists if you didn't already)
My favorite scene is when the law firm is questioning Melissa Benedict, a secretary that used to work with one of the lawyers in his previous firm. Melissa was diagnosed with AIDS after a blood transfusion, and she was put on the stand to prove one of the lawyers knew what AIDS lesions looked like and therefore was able to identify that Andy had HIV a week before he was fired.
I was ready to reach through my screen to smack a bitch when the law firm’s representation started trying to make a moral argument, that Melissa’s AIDS was acceptable AIDS to have in an office because she involuntarily contracted the disease through a medical procedure, whereas Andy had had gay sex and therefore voluntarily risked acquiring HIV. And you can just see Melissa looking over at Andy so often when the law firm is trying to make this argument, and trying to get Melissa to answer questions in a way that would make her seem like she is actually of the law firm’s opinion.
And she doesn’t let them do that to Andy. Instead she looks right at him and she qualifies her response saying: “But I don’t consider myself any different from anyone else with this disease. I’m not guilty, I’m not innocent, I’m just trying to survive” and it is just a beautiful moment for me. Especially because this film is trying to portray queer people in a positive light, having a straight, white woman with a disease she had no way of preventing say that she was just like anyone else with AIDS is hugely important to driving that message home.
Favorite Quote
Tumblr media
gif by @fran-kubelik
I am so sorry in advance for how long this quote is, and that 90% of it is technically just Andy translating an opera but:
“‘Look the place that cradled me is burning.’ Do you hear the heartache in her voice? Can you feel it Joe? Now in come the strings and it changes everything. It’s like the music, it fills with a hope. And that’ll change again. Listen. Listen. “I bring sorrow to those who love me” oh oh that single cello. “It was during this sorrow that love came to me.” (sobbing) “A voice filled with harmony. It said, live still. I am life. Heaven is in your eyes. It’s everything around you. It’s the blood and the mud. I am divine! I am oblivion. I am the god that comes down from the heavens to the earth and makes of the earth a heaven. I am love. I am love.”
The level of emotion, the implication behind each and every line that he translates, the way that those lines spoke to me as a queer person. “Look the place that cradled me is burning” this body, his body is failing; this life, his life is coming to an end. “I bring sorrow to those who love me” we see that with Andy’s mom, with his entire family for that matter, we see how loved he was and know that his death is going to be a devastating blow for a lot of people. “It was during sorrow love came to me” Miguel is there for all of it, through all of it. When he collapses in court, his family is the first to get to him, to try to help him. When he’s in the hospital the entire hallway is flooded with people that love him. Andy breaks at this point in his monologue, choking out the line “A voice filled with harmony. It said, live still. I am life. Heaven is in your eyes. It’s everything around you. It’s the blood and the mud.” I do not think Andy was ready to go until the very end when he finally said he was. Live still. Andy wants to live still. I am life. Heaven is in your eyes. It’s everything around you. It’s the blood and the mud. He will see Heaven soon, he is looking at the world through the lens of a dying man. “I am the god that comes down from the heavens to the earth and makes of the earth a heaven” We have one life to live, we should use it well, Andy has so much love in his life, that’s truly such a heavenly thing to have. He is seeking justice, in such a way that others might be protected the way he wasn’t. “I am love. I am love.”
I just.
I don’t know y’all I just really liked this film.
Score
9.5/10
I’m salty that Denzel wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, though I am wholly unsurprised, and I am glad Tom Hanks won and that his speech included praise of Denzel.
““And an actor who put his film image at risk and shown because of his integrity, Mr. Denzel Washington who I very much share this with”
Lovely film, highly recommend.  Now on to The Living End

Was gonna gather my thoughts and write a post tmr on the general mood in the ofts space after the finale bc I feel like a whole bunch of people overthink the amount of editing that was supposedly the result of "promo couple fans complaining too much" but I literally cannot sleep before I get this off my chest so here goes nothing:
Do you guys not understand how tv show productions work....
The script was written, reworked, and then finalized before they even began filming. Yes they might have changed some stuff between the initial scrips draft they had before the mock trailer and the true beginning of production this year but considering that they booked two at the time new but well received promo couples (remember that this show was already in planning at a time when Enchené and The Eclipse were still very very fresh), TopMew and SandRay were always gonna be endgame. It's especially obvious now that the full series is out bc if you go back and watch the mock trailer, all the same storybeats are there. This is how the story was supposed to go from the beginning. They most likely cast two promo couples on purpose because of the added bonus of pre-established compatibility and chemistry needed for endgame couples in such a messy series.
Then they filmed stuff. They finished filming I believe the day that episode 3 aired, so they could not have changed any of the ending based on audience reactions (as I have seen multiple people suggest), since we were barely a few epiaodes into the story. The book based on the series was also already finished and in the last stages of preparing to be released. The only thing they actually did was edit out parts of scenes or full scenes that they found did not add anything at this point in the story (like the sandray garage scene) or would actively harm what we, the audience, are supposed to be understanding and feeling right now (like the Mew smashing shit scene and Top attempting to sleep with someone else, which both were explained to have been cut because audiences were reacting strongly negative to Top even a few episodes into his redemption arc, when we were clearly supposed to start being on his side). They might also have moved some scenes around to aid the story flow but I am unsure of that one (I suspect the scene where Ray and Mew finally solve their shit out was supposed to be directly before the SandRay donut scene bc of obvious clothing reasons, bc they either fucked up hardcore with clothing continuity or moved the first SandRay rehab discussion to after the RayMew talk because it made more sense that way when seeing it played out on screen. If that was the case I am glad for it bc it would have felt a bit weird the other way around idk...).
All of this is however not new. It happens all the time in film and broadcasting production (also in book publishing....this is why editors and alpha/beta readers exist. I mean Brandon Sanderson's books famously go through four (?) stages of feedback before they get published...). Some scenes just get dropped in editing because when you see it on screen it feels redundant or not quite right, so it gets taken out before it changes what they want the audience to take away from other scenes. Movies and tv shows that have months between filming and airing dates usually solve this issue with test screening audiences and several runs of editing. There have been instances of Movies having test screenings at cinemas and then having their release date scrapped because they have to be re-edited completely as a result of unexpected audience feedback. GmmTV series being on smaller budgets and timeframes results in this time window falling away and relying on observing audience reactions to already aired episodes closely and then editing the next episode close to its release is one strategy to still ensure that you bring across what you wanted to (Kdramas also do this very frequently). It might not be ideal but it's not unusual and it certainly does not mean that anything substantial from the story was changed. All the storybeats as well as the character and relationship development remained the same because they already had everything filmed. They did not do reshoots or we'd know it. The story was planned this way. It was in the script. If you did not like it, then you did not like it. But don't accuse the directors of "bending to the will of fans" bc that's just plain wrong.
I too have my issues with some of the writing and some of the characterizations. But let's keep the criticism where it is actually deserved ok?
Edit: I have also seen quite a few people over here and also on Twitter say how disappointed they are in the "editing based on audience reaction" and that they should release a "directors cut" with all the scenes but like....this IS the directors cut. THEY decided how to edit this because the original intent is not always what arrives in the brains of the audience. Storytelling is a two-way street and if a massive chunk of your audience interprets a part of your story so differently to how you intended it to be understood, edits are necessary. Because that means that your intent is not communicated well enough.

Attack On… Podcast!
Archive of Our Own
As the Attack on Titan series comes to an end after ten years, the cast is reunited in hosting a podcast, talking about their times on the set of the filming, their friendships, and all in-between.
And well, shenanigans are inevitable.
Attack on Titan acting AU, as the cast host a podcast, and interview the rest of the cast.
Tumblr media
Episode 01
Armin: On that day, mankind received a grim reminder. We lived in fear of the Titans and were disgraced to live in these cages we called walls.
Eren: Wow, you made me travel back so many years, that was so long ago.
Armin: I know… I just love saying it, it's a cool way to start a series–
Eren: Welcome! everyone to the Attack on Titan podcast! Where we share our experiences, stories, and behind the scenes from the set of, Attack on Titan.
Armin: indeed indeed, and we are totally doing this because we want to, not because the production company is forcing us into it–
Eren: Armin–
Armin: and the marketing these days is crazy but here we are! And we are glad to have you around, we don't know how frequent these podcasts would be, but, yeah, anyway, Eren.
Eren: Y-yes? What?
Armin: How are you?
Eren: … you don't know how podcasts work, do you?
Armin: nope.
Eren: Oh Gosh–
Armin: Sooooo for our first segment, we will be reading some of your tweets from Twitter–
Eren: X, it's called X.
Armin: not in my house, so anyway, the first tweet here says, how hard was it to act with all the green screens and dots and all those effects things, while not being able to see any of those effects in real life?
Eren: Good question, I think that, being part of a project for… ten years, you just become part of the set, you know?
Armin: yeah we don't really have to imagine these effects or try to deal with things that we don't see, it's like we are there, it's like we lived those moments, we also had a really great VFX team and artists who gave very clear instructions, and they provided us with draft samples of how these effects would look like, and… well, considering the rumbling, it was quite… not easy.
Eren: you did a great job with that monologue though.
Armin: well, thank you, and do I have to mention it took me over 34 takes?
Eren: oh yeah we got to a point where we were literally reciting his speech with him.
Armin: but they ended up using the first take, which made me proud but equally pissed off.
Eren: they used the first take?
Armin: yup, and yes, you all could've been spared from memorizing that speech.
Eren mocking: get up! You useless piece of shit!
Armin laughing: Oh God.
Eren: you asshole! I-don't-know what other profanities but some sad other hate-speech things!
Armin: oh well…
Eren: no but good job, it was phenomenal, it'll get you many awards. Now for our second question, how much physical exercise do you guys do to stay in shape? I both love and hate this question, because I've never been in such good shape, but at the same time, I don't want to be reminded by all the exercises and diets we used to do…
Armin: yeah, especially you, I mean, I don't have many shirtless scenes soooo…
Eren: Oh you do have one.
Armin: no I don't.
Eren: Oh yes you do! He does! They cut the scene out!
Armin: hey no! I do not have a shirtless scene!
Eren: yeah sure, pretty sure we'll talk about that scene at one point
Armin: sooooo next question.
Eren: It'll come up, it'll come up.
Armin: so, this question says, favorite drinks? Coffee–
Eren: Rum!
Armin: ok another question, oh this is a good one, so this question says, if you have one thing to change about your characters in the finale, what would you change?
Eren: hmmm, well, for me, personally, I wouldn't change anything about the finale, it was perfect, but, I wouldn't mind more insight into their futures.
Armin: yeah I was going to say the same thing and I think it's because I'm just not over the fact that it's over, we've lived with these characters for over ten years, we can't just let go.
Eren: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Armin: Well, I mean, it's like, it's weird, you know?
Eren: Yeah I know, but I also would've loved to have more romantic scenes–
Armin: oh there he goes.
Eren: oh come on! Are you complaining about having more romantic scenes?
Armin: alright yes of course after all that pain and sadness, more romance would've been great, but at the same time, it had the perfect amount of romance.
Eren: You're just saying this because-
Armin: Eren don't–
Eren: –you don't want anyone to question that shirtless scene.
Armin: OK SO, we are done with questions for today, that's it, I don't know how they end podcasts, I don't know what I'm supposed to say here, but I guess follow us to get updates, we will have guests in the following episodes, let us know what you would like to hear, and yes goodnight!
Eren: Coward!
Armin: bye bye!
note:
If you saw misspelled words, then no you didn’t
Hope you enjoyed this! This is just a tiny fun thing I’m working on for jokes and laughs while I work on other serious projects
But… anyone wants to record these…? Let me know

Y/N via Vogue's website
Tumblr media
Academy Award winning couple Y/N L/N and Rintarou Suna have become one of our favorite celebrity couples; the two have been secretly dating for three years. The reason behind it is because, according to Y/N, she wasn't so sure about their relationship at the beginning.
She admits her initial concerns about dating the Japanese actor. “I was scared. I never dated anyone ever since I started my career. Which means, I’ve been single for almost a decade,” she confesses. “I had this thought like, ‘Are we going to get paparazzi’ed all the time? Should I be worried? What about our job and friendship? Am I not being professional?’”
L/N tells Vogue how grateful she is to have a boyfriend that understands how she felt and always supports her no matter what. However, as times goes by, she is letting the cat out of the bag since she doesn’t feel anxious anymore about “what people may say”.
Y/N also reveals that working with Rintarou makes her feel comfortable and one of the best things she has ever experienced. “I can not imagine anyone could replace him as my co-star. Besides, we’ve been friends for a year and have worked together as Coach brand ambassador.”
Then, the (H/C)-haired actress describes her relationship is as beautiful as daylight. Love to her is “golden”, it’s save, warm, and peaceful. “He doesn’t really enjoy going out too much. He loves to stay at home and feels secure. So when we have a free time, we just cuddling while watching a film,” she shares. “The rest? I’m just gonna keep that one a secret.”

"His PR relationships seem to be less about bearding than they are to massage certain other aspects of his image."
May I ask about this opinion? Not to argue, just wondering what you mean? For me he´s still very much closeted so every woman he stunts with is also a beard. But I get all women including the current one make this stunt deal to boost their career so he´s basically giving them the platform, right? I´m just wondering what you meant with massage certain other aspects of his image? Maybe when he moved from models to actresses is him trying to break through in the movie industry?
Oh, I absolutely agree that he still closeted. I just meant that in the earlier years, when he was still in the band, the main thing they seemed to be trying to do was say he’s straight, and he dates models. It raised his profile a bit and it made him look “cool and sexy to people who think that way about men who date models. Swiftie and Kendall were mainly to raise his profile as they were more famous in America when he dated them.
These days, his PR relationships seem to have a different focus. Obviously, they still make it look like he dates women. But, Camille was to give him a story to tie his album to, and she was his first “long-term girlfriend“ so that seemed to be a step towards changing the story that he was a womanizer. Olivia was, I think, originally supposed to be a step towards connecting him to the film industry (dating a Director/actress), and was also to show that he could play the PR game when it came to advertising whatever movies he might be cast in. And maybe, too, it was originally going to be another woman to tie an album to (although he clearly side-stepped that. Thank god). The whole thing was a disaster, but I think those were the original intentions. TR I haven’t quite made my mind up about. The relationship does seem to be fixing some of the issues with his image: holivia was an obvious PR stunt and literally everyone hated her. Harry’s fans who like seeing him with women love Hussell and see it as a return to the “low key” nature of Hamille which was the relationship many fans look to as being “real”. It also ticks off the box of soothing those who complain he only dates skinny, blonde, white women. And she’s a “serious” actress, so it still keeps one foot in that world.
So, yeah. In a way, they’re all beards. But I don’t think that’s the main focus these days.
In reference to this.

Ok I’m glad that we’re getting sword af again but I’m disappointed it’s audio only. Like is it bad that this announcement kinda ruined my day a bit? One of the things people like the most is seeing the cast interactions I mean a majority of the posts I’ve seen about sword af are about their interactions and reactions to things (and several posts about the seating arrangement for next season only to get no seating arrangement 😔). Also like I don’t really do podcasts. I can’t focus on audio only things for that long and (even though I’m definitely going to try to listen to season two) I don’t think I’m going to be able to listen to season two because I can’t focus that long when there’s no visuals. Everyone keeps saying budget is the reason for it to be only audio but smosh mouth and smosh Reddit stories are their podcasts but both of them have video too. Cut the video for smosh mouth if you have budget problems not the show where acting and reactions and interactions are so important. This is just going to hinder the sword af experience like I don’t understand why they did it?? I just can’t believe they delayed sword af season two for like 5 or 6 months only to make it audio only. I’m so sad that I’m probably not going to be able to enjoy season two as much because I’m not going to be able to get into it like I can when I can actually see everyone.
Also the wording really got me too like “rejoice!! 80% of what made sword af so good has been taken away!!! Hazzah!!!” Like wtf?! I keep seeing people saying we should be grateful we even get a season two and like yeah. I get that but also it’s going to be a completely different experience now and we have a right to be a little disappointed about that. Idk I’m just disappointed and a little upset but I’m going to give it a try and hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy it still
I’m happy it’s not dead in the water too, but at what cost?
Having it be audio only???? like how can you miss the point so badly??
THE FUCKING SEATING ARRANGEMENT POSTS IM GONNA CRY
I want to talk about the possible reasons they changed it to a podcast but I’m honestly too confused to even think of reason they would change it at all? Like it got similar views to most of the other content they put out at that time?? it wasn’t that different? And the community LOVED IT!
“Everyone keeps saying budget is the reason for it to be only audio but smosh mouth and smosh Reddit stories are their podcasts but both of them have video too“
(maybe not so much Reddit Stories because they make bank $ off those videos) BUT SMOSH MOUTH?? Like we could have had at the very least 1 steady cam pointed at them (or if we want the very least- a recording of them in a zoom call (I’m assuming the reason it’s going to be audio only is because they’re filming sessions at home through zoom/discord??) I would literally take that over no visuals
They said S2 was dropping Dec 10 2023 (holy fuck I went to fact check and they removed the release date off the end of the video..)(I’m pretty sure it was supposed to be sometime in Dec) then they pushed it back with no new release date- THEN THEY TAKE BACK THE VISUAL ASPECTS????? WTF
Thanks guys, really, thanks....
“the wording really got me too like “rejoice!! 80% of what made sword af so good has been taken away!!! Hazzah!!!”
Actually had me seething. I can’t believe they phrased it that way.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Sword AF. That’s exactly why I’m so pissed off about this whole debacle, they teased the FUCK out of S2 only to strip it down to the absolute bare bones.
I just don’t understand why they would do this.

Like any with Georgie Farmer would be amazing, you could literally do anything I don’t really mind… living off scraps rn 🤧
Ofc if u have loads of requests or don’t want to thats fine dw!
DAYS OFF
Tumblr media
pairing(s): Georgie farmer x fem!reader
Summary: You've had feelings for Georgie for a long time, but it wasn't until the kiss scene got closer that everything in your head started to mess things up more.
author's note:Hello, first of all I wanted to say thank you very much for this Request, I enjoyed writing another Georgie fic. I wanted to thank you for the enormous affection that the previous story has received, I really did not think I would like it so much, so thank you really. I hope you like this one too, if you have any requests about Georgie or any other actor or characters, you can leave them in the requests that I will gladly do. Merry semi-Christmas.
You were confused.
Georgie and you were good friends, their characters were a couple in the series so it made sense that the one they lived with the most was the British. Georgie and you were good friends, their characters were a couple in the series so it made sense that the one they lived with the most was the British. Thanks to the nature of the relationship between his characters, Tim, the director, did not take long to send them on several dates, neither of them was bothered by it, throughout the recordings both acted as a real couple so that in scenes they did not It seemed so forced, but they both knew it was just acting.
Or so you thought, you didn't know if it was because of the amount of time in which you hadn't dated or because of the festivities that had a certain effect on you, but something had changed. The complicit looks, the smiles, the little kisses, everything was starting to feel different.
You had to find out if something was really going on before they filmed their first romantic scene. But how?
"Yellow!"
They had had the night off and as in any space without work that you left them they had decided to play Uno. You had spent part of the night interned deciphering Farmer's signals but it seemed that all you would get was a headache.
"You are a cheater!"
Jenna's scream brings you back to reality, the game was over and Percy somehow, possibly dirty, had managed to win. Your gaze goes to Georgie, who argues with Jenna about all the cheating the Canadian was doing, your eyes scanning. Georgie wasn't ugly, of course that was something you knew, her hair, which had grown almost to match Percy's, was disheveled but not in a careless way but in a casual way, with a few strands falling casually in front of her. face.
But it wasn't until he turned his head and winked at you that you knew you were lost.
"I go for water"
While you could hear the others continue to fight with Percy, your mind kept swimming between your feelings. Maybe you needed a day off, or maybe two. Definitely a week, yes.
“Y/n! You are missing the show of the year, they are going to send Percy to the gallows.”
You are sitting at the kitchen table where you can see part of the great work that your friends have put together outside, of course your eyes are only on the British, the way his laughter is the only thing you hear, how your heart beats more quickly when his gaze catches yours and he smiles at you. You definitely need that day off.
"Or maybe you're seeing just what you need to see."
Joy smiles as she shakes her head. They both steal glances from two rooms, while lowering their heads with flushed cheeks, if only they realized what was quite obvious to the rest of the cast.
. . .
You had taken the day off.
Today you hadn't had to record scenes, so even though you loved all your companions, you had decided that you needed a day alone, your head had been spinning too much in recent days and it certainly wasn't going to stop if you didn't give yourself your space to clarify certain feelings.
Romania was a rather peculiar place, of course you had already realized that the first day you set foot in the country, but having taken today to enjoy yourself had been the best decision you had made.
"I'm sorry"
You had bumped into someone on your way out of the cafeteria, it was Georgie. He had made the same decision on his day off, Percy had offered to go with him but Georgie only planned to walk around the building for just a few minutes, but after having to lie to his friend about a non-existent stomach ache to Not to be upset for wanting to be alone, he understood that the five-minute walk would have to be extended.
“Y/n, I thought you would be with the others.”
Georgie gives herself a mental slap. He didn't want it to sound that way but the truth is that you were the reason why he needed some time alone, in a week they will have their first kiss scene and Georgie wasn't taking it well at all. He had been feeling a certain mix of emotions towards her friendship with you, thanks to her characters having quite a complicated start where they just fight their feelings hadn't interfered with his character, but now that that was going to change and their characters were going out Georgie didn't know How was I going to handle it?
“I…erm, I needed a day off”
Now it was you who wanted to hit a wall, of course you didn't want it to sound like you bothered hanging out with them, it was obvious you didn't, but seeing Georgie had completely thrown you off base, your brain didn't she could react beyond how cute he looked in his sweater and messy hair.
"I-I didn't mean it to sound like that, of course I like spending time with you it's just that…"
“Don't worry, I literally had to invent a Percy that my stomach hurt because he wanted to accompany me. I mean, I love the boy but the boy can't take hints."
Percy that my stomach hurt because he wanted to accompany me. I mean, I love the boy but the boy can't take hints.
"I was going back to the building, do you want to come?"
Georgie nods as he joins you. Along the way you had talked about everything that had happened on the set these three months, they had shared certain theories and they even bet who Merlina would stay with. You'd felt good, like all that weird tension between you disappeared, until it brushed up against you and you remembered why you were in that position in the first place.
“So next week is the big time”
Both of them had stopped on a bridge not far from where they lived and had been quietly appreciating the sunset. Of course, the silence would not last forever.
"At last huh, one more fight and I would swear Galatea would pluck Ajax's snakes one by one."
They both laugh.
"If it wasn't for Enid it might have taken them all season to confess what they felt."
"Let's be thankful that Enid locks them up"
They both remain in an awkward silence. Your characters had gone through almost the same situation as you and even so it was not obvious to you, or you want to pretend that it was not, the great tension between the two of you.
"Georgie"
"Y/n"
"You first"
Your words get stuck in your throat, you were ready to take off the bandage once and for all and confess to Georgie what you felt but your throat hadn't planned the same, when you were ready to pronounce the words it closed, Georgie must have noticed in that because he decided to speak.
“There's an ice cream parlor near here that they say is very good, I haven't been but Percy went with Jenna and they told me it's very good. Do you want to go?"
With a smile you nod, while both walk towards the place chatting at ease about Percy and his many cheats in the games, you feel how Georgie brushes her hand with yours so you take the initiative and then intertwine their fingers. They both smile and they didn't need more to understand what's going on between you.
While you continue to go to your appointment, your group of friends is spying on you from behind.
“I told you they ran away to be together. Pay"
Jenna holds out her hand as Percy holds out a monopoly ticket, causing the next big row that ends with both of them in the fountain.

spoilers for the back half of abbott elementary season 3 below so read at your own risk! but I need to discuss these last few episode titles with someone bc i’m losing my mind.
Tumblr media
3x11 ‘Double Date’ - now this could easily be melissa & the fire captain + jacob & the paramedic but wouldn’t it be crazy if janine and manny got together in the next few episodes and then gregory got jealous and came up with a fake gf but then got trapped in a ‘let’s go on a double date’ situation??
3x12 ‘Mother’s Day’ - Vanetta Teagues making a return? Would love to see Taraji again or maybe Ayo? Or maybe we’ll finally see Taylor & Gina together on screen celebrating with Barbara? Either way I’m here for whatever this entails
3x13 ‘Smith Playground’ - Now the cast was seen filming here the other day so I knew that was coming eventually but I figured it would be the finale because historically all of the finales have been field trips? so the change up is interesting.
3x14 ‘Party’ - this could be a party for literally anything but I’m banking on it being a celebration for janine deciding to accept a full time position with the district after being extended the offer. I would love to see a dramatic last minute pivot from janine where she decides to come back to abbott as a teacher instead of stick with the district after seeing all of the people she loves gathered around, showing up for her, wanting what’s best for her. and then it turns into a ‘welcome home’ sort of party instead.
anyways I could theorize for hours but lmk your thoughts!!

HELLO, EVERYONE! I SAW THE BTTF MUSICAL YESTERDAY, AND AM READY TO POST SOME (SEMI) COHERENT THOUGHTS!
[Fair warning that some things here may spoil parts of the show.]
• First things first: It was so good. It was so, so, very good. Incredible show. I'd been hearing great things about the show since it first came out in London, and I've been listening to the music since it dropped, so I pretty much went in knowing I'd like it but it still managed to be even better than I thought.
• Just the setup of the theater itself and the ambiance prior to it starting was so cool. The way everything is lit blue and there's all the electrical zapping and humming. THE CONSTANT TICKING OF CLOCKS THAT FILLED THE THEATER. Nothing had even happened yet, and I was like, "This is such a good show."
• My one big cause for hesitation was Casey playing Marty. I know absolutely nothing about the guy, but Marty is just so dear to my heart, and MJF's energy and physicality isn't something easily captured. I had my doubts about seeing someone try to bring Marty to Broadway, but Casey walked onto the stage, called out, "Doc?" and I went, "Yeah, okay. There's Marty."
• For real, though, Casey was phenomenal as Marty. He had the vocal inflection down. The right amount of crackliness. Very good balance of cool kid and disoriented mess.
• Um. HUGH COLES?!? Talk about brilliant casting. I mean it when I say that he somehow seemed more George than George from the movie. The audience reacted with a sense of awe when he started speaking and moving around the stage. It was like Crispin Glover had been plucked straight from the film and injected with More Georgeness. When he did the laugh, the audience went nuts. His physical acting and the way he captured George's gestures perfectly was amazing to watch.
• As I'd expected, Musical Doc is ten times more chaotic and unhinged than Movie Doc. Roger Bart's comedic timing is impeccable. He earned himself frequent howling laughter from the audience from the moment he appeared on stage.
• His "Good thing I kept this radiation suit from my Manhattan Project days" line was a nice touch.
• "Despite my fear of heights, I was standing on my toilet," was such a gem of a line.
• THE DELOREAN. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE DELOREAN. I had no idea how they were going to depict a car speeding to 88mph on a small stage, but THEY DID IT. Astounding. Honestly might be the coolest effects I've ever seen done on a stage. Also, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the addition of it being voice-activated and talking, but it worked nicely!
• The musical obviously had to trim some parts of the movie—and even omit parts entirely—but it was done so well that you either didn't even notice or miss they were gone. The change from George being hit by a car to simply falling out of the tree was one of these changes. (Marty's under the tree trying to catch him, btw, which is how he ends up getting knocked out)
• I couldn't tell if this was an ad-lib from Casey, but when he was trying to get his pants back on in the Baines house scene, he started struggling a bit with the tangled suspenders that were wrapped around one of the legs of the jeans and muttered in frustration, "Why do I wear suspenders??" Very funny little moment.
• Great chemistry between Bart and Casey. The connection between Doc and Marty was THERE. The musical GOT IT RIGHT. So many hilarious moments between them in the form of completely unintelligible banter, where they're just talking over each other and having like...verbal tennis matches of nonsense. It's hard to describe in writing, but trust me, it was so good. It went something like this:
Doc: "Marty!"
Marty: "Doc!"
Both Simultaneously: *literal gibberish*
• There's a beautiful little addition to the scene when Marty shows up at Doc's house in 1955 and tries to convince him he's from the future. After Doc asks him to take him to this supposed "time machine" Marty goes, "Sure, hang on, I just gotta grab some flashlights." Then he goes straight to a cabinet and quickly retrieves two flashlights without a second thought, to which Doc is like, "How did you know they were in there??" Marty knows!! He knows exactly where the flashlights are because of course he does!!
• Perhaps one of the funniest moments of the show was right at the end of the "Future Boy" number, where the music stops and there's that breaking of the fourth wall moment. Doc and Marty look around in confusion at all the backup singers and dancers awkwardly standing around his house (one of the singers continues dancing/singing long after the others has stopped lol) and Doc wordlessly opens the door so they can all scurry out.
• Doc's dream of visiting the year 2020 where everything is perfect and there's "no disease" got some very loud laughter from the audience.
• Oh. Oh, the scene at Doc's house at night after the demonstration with the toy car. The way everything gets solemn for a moment, and Doc is doubting himself and worried about failing. Marty's lovely little speech about how everything will be okay because he believes in him. He trusts Doc. He knows it'll work and they'll get him home. The way Marty is the one looking after and taking care of Doc in that moment. When he asks, "Do you need anything, Doc? Can I make you a sandwich?" And then when he says softly, "Goodnight, Doc. Pleasant dreams."
THE MUSICAL GETS IT RIGHT. THE WARMTH. THE LOVE. THIS WAS SUCH A NICE ADDITION.
• "PUT YOUR MIND TO IT" !!!! I loved this sequence so, so much. Marty gets to strut his stuff while George flails around trying to imitate him. It was funny, the choreography was great, and we get such a nice Marty and George hug at the end! Why didn't they hug in the movie??
• The audience was super engaged and reactive through the whole show, but it noticeably ramped up in the latter part—starting with the night of the dance. There was such an excitement as people anticipated George swooping in to take down Biff and protect Lorraine. When Biff went down, the audience whooped and clapped and cheered so much.
• EARTH ANGEL! THE MOMENT GEORGE AND LORRAINE KISS. It was just like the movie. The music suddenly swelled, Marvin belted out, "The vision of your happiness", George and Lorraine kissed, and the audience. Lost. Their. Minds. It was as if people were experiencing the story for the first time—that's how strong the reaction was. So cool.
• Audience also went wild at the start of Johnny B. Goode. That was a neat sequence as well. Huge laughs at the "But your kids are gonna love it" line.
• The clocktower scene! Marty handing Doc the letter and saying, "I wrote you a thank-you note; don't read it until you get home!!" LOL. So many amazing effects going on in this one. For those of you who have seen the show, you probably remember Doc running up the clocktower stairs, right? Did the audience nearly die of laughter like they did at my showing? That was truly one of the top 5 funniest moments of the show, in my opinion. It had me giggling hours later once I was home. For those of you who have not seen the show, I don't think I can adequately put into words what was happening during this scene, but it was incredibly funny. It's good there wasn't any dialogue during it, because no one would have heard it with the way everyone was laughing.
• The fire trails on stage got quite the awed reaction. Super cool.
• The hug! We get our Doc and Marty hug at the end! I'm so glad they realized that moment was missing from the movie.
• I liked the shift from Marty waking up at home to him waking up on the bench in town instead. The "George McFly Day" part was a fun addition, and it flowed nicely into Marty's "Power of Love" performance.
• THE CAR FLEW. IT FLEW UP IN THE AIR AND THE WHEELS TURNED IN AND IT WENT OUT OVER THE AUDIENCE. HOW DID THEY DO THAT. IT DID A COMPLETE ROTATION UPSIDE DOWN WHILE CASEY AND BART WAVED TO PEOPLE. If anyone knows of any videos or articles explaining how they did things with the car, please let me know because I can't find anything and I would love to know how they did it! You couldn't see anything holding the car, and i'm so confused! The effects were so good.
• Love how, when the show ended, the giant screen on the stage just said, "Make like a tree and get outta here."
...I think those are all my thoughts. I was planning to write up a post with just a couple of bullet points of highlights and instead. Well. This is what you get from me, and if you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that. But really, the show was so well done. I had a blast. I bought a pin that says, "Whoa, this is heavy" and I'm going to put it on my denim jacket :)
For those who are planning to see the musical, I hope this helps hype you up for it. And for those who can't see it, I hope this gives you a good look at what it's like!

Fixing Wish (2023) In My Sleep - Part 1
So, a few nights ago I had a dream. No, like, I was asleep and literally had a dream.
The dream was simple. I was explaining Wish, that new Disney movie, to my parents, and ranting about how it should have been better. Then I began to give my actual ideas for how it could be fixed... and I woke up, those ideas fresh in my mind.
So, here's part one of how I would fix Wish, and do it better asleep than Disney ever did awake.
First off, Asha is an attendant in the Royal Court. Specifically, she's a member of the Camarería, who acted as attendants to the Spanish Queen- since Rosas is meant to be based somewhat on Spanish and Mediterranean Culture, I decided this would be an applicable position! This would also give her a reason to discover Magnifico's "dark secrets" later on and begin to doubt him. She's also very close to Queen Amaya, and the two often exchange advice.
Second- Asha is no longer "adorkable", like the dime a dozen protags we get these days. She is, to be rather blunt, a bitch. Yes, a bitch! Asha will have great character development, going from a stuck-up, somewhat prejudiced woman to learning the true value of being good for the sake of others, and not just yourself.
Magnifico and Amaya, also, are a power couple. The thing about Amaya, though, is that you don't know she's in cahoots with Magnifico until act three. Basically, she takes on the role of a happier Simon, and to a much better established degree.
Speaking of Simon and the others, they're kicked out. Nope. Not having that. The cast is already bloated, we don't need six more crazy teens to worry about. I'm keeping Dahlia, because she's decent disabled rep (and God knows we need at least that nowadays), and she's the one with the most character in the group.
And of course, Starboy is a thing! Of course he's gonna be a thing, how could he not? He's a semi-shapeshifting being made from stardust and good vibes, and is usually seen with a smile and a wink. He's rather smitten with humanity, and Asha, but slowly becomes more disillusioned as the film goes on, and luckily a more developed Asha will pull him out of his funk.
Now... how does this all fit into the plot?
The Plot of the Film
The film begins with a storybook opening, telling the story of Rosas. It remains relatively the same, with Magnifico suffering loss and wanting to create a kingdom where that could never happen again. A proud, strong foundation for generations to come. He is joined by his wife, Amaya, in making this happen.
However, he doesn't just "learn magic" out of nowhere, no- he wishes on a star so long and so hard, that star "wanted to listen closer", so it fell to the Earth and imbued him with stardust. A magical substance, stardust has the ability to change reality and make dreams come true, so he began to do so for other people and created his kingdom with literal hope as the foundation.
Rosas, a kingdom of inspiration for a better tomorrow, sprung forth! Heralded by Magnifico and Amaya, once a month they have a ceremony to grant three people's wishes- after all, if they granted everyone's wish, chaos would ensue. Even the most out of loop person would understand that, after all. Anyway, people are selected, and their deepest desire made a reality.
Magnifico soon discovers that this is an excellent way to keep people at ease, and listening to him. His kingdom- he can't lose it to chaos! He will only grant the wishes that have the kingdom's best interests at heart. It's for the good of everyone... right? Amaya certainly agrees.
Asha, a somewhat arrogant attendant, is helping Amaya prepare for the monthly ceremony. Amaya muses about the importance of knowing what your heart wants, and then states she doesn't know where her pen is to write out the names of the ones chosen. Asha offers to get one for her, and searches Magnifico's office for a pen and parchment too (because she's that helpful, of course). However, she stumbles into the Wishing Chamber, where Magnifico is... muttering about something.
Asha listens in, curious. Magnifico is staring off into space, saying something about how "wishes these days are so senseless", when he sees Asha, and questions her presence. Asha states she's trying to find a pen for Amaya, and Magnifico chuckles, whipping one up from a splinter of wood and some ink.
Asha returns, a little frazzled from Magnifico's demeanor, but quickly changes her tune when she sees the kingdom, and sighs longingly at its view. Asha starts to sing, the first song of the movie: "Life in Rosas". It's upbeat, but has an air of prejudice, with Asha noting things like how she climbed to the top and deserves the best, and otherwise acting indifferent to most of the plights in the kingdom in favor of her good mood. Think "Candy Store" from Heathers- it's catchy, fun, but isn't about a well-meaning person in the end.
At the end of the song, she walks by a child who is chasing a ball down the street, and she initially thinks nothing of it. But Amaya walks by, and she instantly changes her tune, helping the kid catch it. The viewer now understands she likes to help when it directly benefits her- in this case, staying in Amaya's good graces.
Amaya questions about her quest to find the pen, and Asha gives it to her, hoping she didn't seem too foolish. Amaya, however, commends her for being distracted by the "good of the kingdom", and happily states that she couldn't have a better confidant. Asha grins, feeling validated by her idol, and Amaya announces the ceremony is to begin soon.
Well... that's where I'll end this first post! It's super long already, and I'll be sure to add the second post and continue the story- we haven't even gotten into the meat of it yet!
PART 2 - will link when ready :)
