well hi :3 welcome to deja’s skinblending guide. this is my first full written tutorial so excuse me if its not very good LAWL before we get started, here's the tools i'll be using

sims4studio

tray importer

photoshop 2022 (theres cracked version everywhere on tumblr)

blender 4.1

sims 4 ripper

blender + the ripper aren't required to make skins, plenty of people don't go that extra step, but i love using it for placement help

okay lets fuckin go gamers heres my very in depth process for making my ocs skins

miss dolly is gonna be our model today. she already has a skin but im gonna add some little details for the sake of example + some tats cause ive been meaning to anyway.

so when i first get started on making someone a skin, ill find a good base to use and then add details from other categories like nosemasks, eyebags, contours, etc.

my fav skin creators are @sims3melancholic and @thisisthem. my bases are usually thisisthem, and then i'll pick through a couple s3m skins and make notes on my phone about what parts i wanna take off of them (like, say, i like how a certain s3m skin's nose looks. i'll use that instead of a nosemask)

my goal when im gathering things i wanna add is to free up as many slots as i can. id rather add cheshire's freckles onto her skin than use up the freckle slot in skin details that i could use for something else, yknow?

ill repeat this process for makeup next. obviously im not giving my ocs permanent full glam, but some lipsticks can add better texture, you can get highlights/blush from........the blush section LOL and i love using this obscurus eyeliner at a low-ish opacity

just adds an extra level of detail i love. i think what keeps my sims looking consistent next to each other is that i tend to use some of the same details all across the board

make sure for all makeup/skin detail/tattoo category swatches you use, you make note of what swatch it exactly is. when you go into s4s to export the file, you're gonna have to manually select it and if u cant remember what skintone u chose out it can be annoying :/

note that she is completely nakey aside from her piercings while i pick what im gonna use for her skin! no clothing but u can keep on their hair. this is so we have a clear view of everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) for blender.

after you make sure u save the sim/household to ur gallery, you can close out of cas and save ur game! i forgot to do this bc im a fucking idiot but its okay bc you will not. its not REALLY necessary to do this as long as you know exactly what packages you need to locate for texture exporting

step one is done!!!! close out ur game

i have a million fucking characters so i made a deja senti skinblending folder to keep it all organized :-)

this is what it looks like inside. gives u a pretty good overview of what ur gonna be doing tbh. the 't' folder is all the textures we're about to export

thankfully i do have a version of dahlia saved in my gallery so even tho i didnt go it before i closed my game i can still show u what to do in tray importer lol. i have multiple sims in one household, so i narrowed it down by going up top and selecting dahlia / human / and her everyday outfit.

since im gonna give her this blush, i right click and hit open w package viewer so itll find it and open s4s for me

anime wow sound. im gonna change the color manually in photoshop so it doesnt matter to me what swatch i export. hit that green export button under the list of diffuse/shadow/etc (u dont need to worry about all those options, just diffuse) and save it to ur folder!

once ur done gathering ur textures ur good to close out of tray importer and s4s(we'll come back to s4s later tho)

thats step two! the quickest step lawl

this is where i start being a little extra. u dont have to rip ur sim and use blender if u dont want to, but i think it can rly help bc the default sim in s4s doesn't have ur sims facial features and can make ur skins look wonky/wont give an accurate representation of how itll look in game. this cuts out having to go in game/out of game over and over to check

so in simripper once u load up ur sim, the important part is to make sure u have it set to export the dae with separate meshes. once thats done u can import it into blender and there's plenty of other tutorials out there how to use simripper n all that.

so once u get the dae loaded into blender im gonna send u on a little side quest over to this ask i answered where i explain how i separate eyes from the head mesh. next thing ur gonna open is photoshop! or whatever u have thats similar

say hi to flat dahlia. u should have ur own guy but flat open now too :-) along with everything else ur gonna combine. in my case its blush and a titty mask. im gonna start w the blush so i zoomed into her face in blender. i went into the blush file and copied, then back into my base skin file and pasted into place with crtl+shift+v

please do not be like me. make sure u rename ur layers as you copy and paste them into the main skin file. do this because it DOES matter what order ur layers are in. u dont want to put ur highlight under ur nose mask cause the nose mask will just cover the highlight etc etc. i already lost what layer the new blush i added is. what is wrong w me

so when u have ur first detail pasted on and in place, ur gonna save the base skin file as a psd. then go into blender, and in the little textures window ur gonna replace the diffuse file ur dae came loaded with with ur new psd file

u should see the change u made but mine was super subtle so im gonna show it to u when i put on the cleavage overlay

when it comes to stuff like this, ur obviously gonna want to pick the closest to ur skintone swatch as u can. i did not do this, because again, im an idiot

mine is way too pale LAWL whoops. we can fix this tho

i add a hue/saturation adjustment and make it a clipping mask using that square w the arrow so the adjustment will ONLY affect the mask

from there i just make little adjustments until the color match up is as perfect as i can make it. for example for this, ik that it needs to be a little warmer and a little more saturated, so im gonna bump the hue and saturation sliders to the right and it was pretty much perfect

tiddies with no mask > with mask no adjustments > with mask and adjustments

and ur gonna go ahead and repeat that process with every single thing u wanna add to ur skin.

so as for tattoos! this is another thing ur gonna wanna rename the layers for because depending on how heavily ur sims can be tatted it can get A LOT

here's psyche's neat little tattoo folder. its separated into where the tattoo is and then

i find all my tattoo inspo on pinterest using flash sheets/keywords in the search. my ocs usually have sub-boards that i hoard inspo in for them specifically. dahlia doesnt have one bc ive never seen her as the most tattooed person, but i think she'd have some at least

this process is pretty much the same as putting on skin details! its all about adjusting to what u like. for example, i like when my sims tattoos are a little faded and a bit blurred at the edges cause it looks a little more real

when it comes to images i find on pinterest, ill save the image and first try to make it as clean as i can

for example, this lil guy

a curve mask made the whites brighter and the blacks darker as u can see. then ill go into filter > reduce noise to soften the harsh edges

then i flatten it, copy and paste to the skin file, n place it wherever i want it to go :-)

louder anime wow!!!

okay so now ur gonna want to make sure u .psd file is saved (it should be bc we've been checking our progress w blender) and then merge the visible layers (NOT flatten, merge visible. we need the transparency around the skin to be in tact)

ur done in photoshop and blender!!! good job :-)

step whatever number we're on. back into s4s!

ur focus is over here. make sure the option filled is the top one, and then hit the cas button

this menu will open, ur gonna go up to part type and find the option skin details, forehead. pick the first forehead wrinkle option that appears and hit 'next.' itll prompt you to save ur new file n give it a name, i usually just make it my sim's name cause i have a folder in my mods folder for specifically my cc

remember wayyyy back when we were exporting the skin details? ur gonna go back to that same section and hit 'import' instead of export. select ur skin's .png file, and poof !

ur skin :DD it looks great man good job

this part is EXTREMELY important. go up to the warehouse tab

in the 'data' section ur gonna see a box at the top labeled 'filter.' thats where i typed in 'compos' just so it would show me JUST the compositionmethod section since theres a lot of shit in there lawl. yours is initially gonna say '3,' but we're gonna change it to '0' mind you, this is because MY skins are all alpha. maxis match overlays do not show up on my skins because my comp method is set to 0, meaning it has top priority essentially.

after you do that, you can hit save and place that .package file you created into your mods folder!!! and GUESS WHAT BESTIE UR DONE!!!!! U DID IT :DDDD

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Well not any one specifically but my most commented work on A03 was my oneshots collection from Weems x Thornhill x reader.

But the one that surprised me was probs how many people loved “wheezy winters” (700 notes!!!)

10. What work was the quickest to write?

I usually don’t time them but if i had to guess id say “nosebleed” (1.2K) id say about 15-20mins. I can type abnormally fast it’s why I usually post a lot (unless i have writer block / don’t have time / not motivated).

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

Ummm… again i plan nothing i am a creature of chaos. But in terms of random dot points of 3am ideas in my notes app … 113. But i may combine some of those ideas and that Includes my requests which i have planned. Thats also for all fandoms i write for and a couple other fandoms ive written for but not posted.

27. What do you listen to while writing?

TBH nothing specific just a lot of random music. Top artists are probs Eminem, bo burnam, Coldplay, Katy Perry, fall out boy, green day, panic at the disco, imagine dragons, hilltop hoods etc. basically everything haha.

Whumptober Day 2: Nowhere to Run

Day 2 of Whumptober, wow I cant believe im doing this, these are probably the quickest and shortest stories ive ever written.

Tony knows theres a quote that he'd love to use right now. Something from an older movie, something about not cornering babies or something, but all his brain power is currently being used elsewhere.

Tony didnt like the other side of this. Not that he much liked being kidnapped either, but the other side of it sucked majorily. Especially when the people were kidnapped because of him. He thought being on a super hero team would keep things like this from happening. Sure he'd been kidnapped since the invasion (not that the team was aware of it anyway) but that he could handle, hes been saving himself since he was 5.

And of all his teammates, Bruce and the spy twins were not who he'd expect to be kidnapped. Sure Nat and Clint were human ish, but they were SPIES, and Bruce was the freakin HULK. It just didnt compute, and when did villians get smart enough to think of kidnapping teamates to get him to do things!?

And they were even smart enough to put him in such a time crunch they had zero time to plan anything. Every tick of the clock (mental clock as it was) was another foot of the walls closing in on him, an extra shot of adrenline that had his heart beating painfully against the reactor and his lungs constricting tighter and tighter.

His half an hour was almost up, the live feed of his teammates and the count down was only making him nervous but he couldnt bear to have it out of his sight. The device in front of him was rudimentary at best compared to what he could do with a bit more time, but it would work, the reactor was the important part anyway. Always the freakin reactor.

He puts it in a case, like those cliche movies, and books it to the meet up, Jarvis playing the livefeed for him and a soothing voice in his ear. He should have left a note or something, Cap would be mad hes sure, Pepper and Rhodey furious. But that would be someone elses problem, he only had one thing on his mind.

Keep the spies from being shot and a drugged up Bruce being launched attached to a rocket. (He didnt know what the man could survive and didnt want to test it.)

"JARVIS, how they doin?" He focus' on directions and birds and things that pass, to ensure he can actually make it to the rendevu.

"Alive sir. Annoyed in Ms. Romanoffs case, Bored in Mr. Bartons. I'm afraid Dr. Banner has been given another dose, and is incoherant still."

"Any chance they've found a way out yet?"

"...It does not seem so sir."

Tony curses vehemently, glancing at his teammates. Nat and Clint both wear iron prisoner gauntlets, to keep their hands unusable, chained to the bars of their cages, spread to further imobile them, legs tied together- and of course guns ready to shoot when the timer hits zero. Bruce- as mentioned before- is collared with several needles attached to it, and bound to a honest to god rocket.

Whoever was stupid enough to take them, would be dead. Tony would make sure of that, ledger be damned. He might of only had half an hour, but hes Tony Stark, and no one messes with his team.

The meet up is too close to a warehouse to be a coincidence, one of their many mistakes. A mere four people are waiting for him, and hes a little insulted, if not for a previously mentioned dead mans switch, Tony would blow them all up here and now.

"JARVIS, you know what to do. Remember, priority is the others, and if things go wrong, you know where my updated will is."

"...Yes sir." JARVIS was against it, but Tony was too determined to be deterred.

He lands, steps out of his armor, and feels JARVIS' departure, though his eyes stay trained on the people before him.

"Welcome Stark, bring what we asked?" The man he'd garnered was in charge over their interactions.

"In the case. But I want that timer shut off, they're safe first before I hand over anything."

"Are you really in the position to negotiate?"

"They die, and not only do you not get this thing, but you'll end up dead too. I have a record im sure you've reffered to."

This causes pause at least, they all fidget and have a quiet conversation. The count down continues in Tonys mind, but he carefully puts out nonchalance, free hand in his pocket as he leans back just slightly. Never show weakness.

"Fine." A laptop in one of the others hands, some quick typing, and the screen is flipped to show him the disarmed timer, guns, and rocket.

Now he has the tech guy, the leader, and the muscle. He moves forward finally, a pace between uncaring and not quite rude. He opens the case when hes a few feet away, watches the mans face light up as he takes the device and inspects it. The case is put aside, Tony knows what comes next, and while they think it is the last step, that there will be no further confrontation, they will be sorely mistaken. Tony wonders if he'll get to see their faces when they realize they were outsmarted by the man they underestimated.

"Now," mischief swims in his unhinged eyes as he looks to Tony, "show me how to connect the Reactor, how to start it."

Tony moves his shirt aside, heart beating harshly, as he twists

And pulls.

Its easy enough to connect the two things, even simpler to show the man how to opperate it.

"And how do I know this thing works?"

Tony makes a show of stumbling, moving away from the group and towards the nearest tree, leaning on it heavily.

"Try it out for all I care. Just let my teammates go."

He sneers, turing to consult with his group, all the better as they huddle close. They are newbs, they may have gotten the drop on 3 of the Avengers, but that was their only accomplishment. Tony could almost feel sorry for them, if he didnt detest them so.

His heart flutters, chest spasma, his knees give out, breath harder to pull in now. Still he watches, watches as the tech gestures to the trees, how they make a space and point their 'weapon', he cant quite see their faces, at least not all of them, but the one muscle guys he can see is enough.

The wave of energy that comes with the activation of the device is intense enough to bend the branches of the trees and blow up a large cloud of durt, but from Tonys hiding spot he still gets to peak at the destruction left behind. No fallen or burnt forest, no crater of disentegrated anything. Just four bodies, a mere smoking crisp of what they once were.

His disguised reactor was nothing more than a self distructing decoy. It could keep him alive for a time, even power the suit, but one wrong move? And you get this. A sure way to solve situations such as this, one made in a fit of paranoia, and one he was glad for. Even if it now means his slow death as shrapnel inches ever closer to his heart.

He slumps now, his part of the plan completed. Stares up at the sky as best he can, thinking of things left undone and red ledgers and the ones left behind. Its not quite how he thought he'd go out, no blaze of battle glory, or assasination attempt. Instead it will be the slow one taken from him all those years ago, in the hot desert.

His eyes fall closed at some point, waves of pain wracking his body, curled on his side in hopes to relieve, of course its in vain though, he can just picture his heart now-whats left of it- being torn to shreds.

Did he say goodbye to his bots? To JARVIS?

Why is the air so thin? Why cant he move? Is he trapped? What happened??

He must be trapped, hes dying, no he needs to get out, but why? Where is everyone? Why whywhywhywhyw-

Theres noise... so far away. Is he underground? Caged and buried!? HELP, JARVIS please-

"ONY! Listen, you gotta calm down! The new arc is almost here I promise! Just stay with me!"

The warehouse was so close, was it to taunt him with these visions? To feed him false hope in a never ending world of a fantasy life where he may actually have people that care? Jokes on them, he has long since accepted... that he is not the one anyone WANTS.

"Come on man, just try and breathe. Jar will be here any minute, you got us out, we're here now."

Well hes heard of two faced but this is ridiculous. Hes pretty sure fusing Clint and Bruce had not been a threat, but there they are, two heads in a pair of shoulders. Theres one head theres two, three fourfivesixse- where was he going with this?

"We're gonna have a talk about this Kotenok, this self sacrificing theme our team has going is going to turn me grey."

"Yerstll perty."

"Not the point, I dont like seeing you so close to death."

Something is running through his hair, gentle and soothing, he hopes its not snakes, that would suck.

"I can see JARVIS now buckethead, just a little longer."

He shudders and curls tighter as his chest tightens like a vice, splintering whatevers between its jaw. His eyes slip closed to panicked shouts, and his visions fade.

...

"I swear Tony if you ever do something like this again, I'll... sic Pepper, Rhodey, Happy and JARVIS on you!" Steve paces by the window unable to be still.

"That threat doesnt exactly-"

"Anthony! I have brought the biggest bear of well wishes I could find! I was told slaughtering a live one in your honor was frowned upon so I hope this will do!" The bears bigger than he is and Tony will treasure it forever.

"Thanks big-"

"Tony! You're Alive!" Bruce bursts through the door, disheiveled and out of breath.

"Yes Brucie bear, and youre coher-"

"They told me what you did, we're setting up a talk about how much you mean to us as soon as youre well enough to leave. You cant keep doing this, the Hulk and I forbid it."

"Forbid-!?"

"Potts just picked Rhodes up from the airport, just to warn you." Natasha slinks in and perches on the edge of his bed.

"Airport?? Why the hell did I even give him a s-"

"I found balloons with our faces on them! Our FACES!" Clint has enough balloons to float a small dog, and they fill the ceiling like the bear overfills the visitors couch.

"Yes, I had to paten them-"

"YOU KNEW!?"

"ANTHONY STARK YOU ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!"

"Can I finish one sentence?"

Pepper fumes as she and Rhodey rush in,

"No!"

"Im gonna wrap you in bubble wrap and keep you in a padded wagon if you keep trying to kill me like this."

"I believe I was keeping people from being killed. Minus... the guys that got killed but they were lame."

"How many times am I gonna have to tell you you matter to us before you actually get it?" Pepper squeezes his hand, tight and trembling, tears in her eyes that make his already tender heart squeeze.

"I'm sorry, I didnt have much time... I couldnt watch anyone die. I couldnt stand by when I could do something.... you guys matter to me, no matter how frustrating you are, so I did what I could. But I am sorry for worrying you all."

"We'll have to remind you more that your safety and wellbeing are just as important to us брат, (omg guys its pronounced Brat but means brother I cant so true) but thank you, for saving us." Natashas hand is warm on his ankle, but her words are warmer.

"Aye, I wish to have as much time as I'm able with you all, I am honored to both fight and exist with you." He bows his head, fist over his heart.

"Theres only one of you Tony, and we would like to keep him around." Bruce gives a small smile, eyes shining with truth.

"I was wrong in the hellicarrier, and Im sorry for it, Im glad to call you a friend." Steve has stopped pacing, standing tall and speaking every word with meaning and warmth.

"You're the reason we were able to become a family dude, stick around and enjoy it would ya." Clint pats his other ankle with a smirk, thats both kind and nervous.

"We'll tell ya everyday if we have to Tones." Rhodey ruffles his hair and Tonys eyes well up against his will. He blinks frantically, refusing to let a single one fall, before offering a hesitant smile.

"I cant promise I'll stop scaring you guys, I'll still protect you guys with my all, but I'll try to be better about the process." He pauses to breathe and swallow the lump in his throat, "and thanks... it means a lot."

From This post. I felt like doing it in full rather than getting asks because I thought it might be fun to have for record later.

How many words have you written this year? AO3 says 253,826. There are some words written that haven't been posted either so like, Oh god. seriously??? Though I think some of those may be coming from updates of a fic (RBME) that started in previous years but was updated this year. IDK exactly how that works.

How many works did you publish this year? 34! Of which many were short but still!

What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Honestly probably an unposted fic that I cant talk about yet lmao. Barring that, Beginning Where We Ended because its Very ambitious and I absolutely adore it. its the kind of fic I wanted to read (and write!) the first time I was in the FF7 fandom and finally I can do it.

What work of yours has the most hits? Beginning Where We Ended (ff7)! Which has just barely overtaken Revealed by Mirrored Eyes (rwby)

What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Recordings for Sleeping! It did way better across the board than I expected it to ngl.

Favorite work you wrote this year? Picking favorites between my children is Difficult okay. Uhhh. Probably still the same as the last time I got a similar ask tho: Recordings for Sleeping is Up there because it's a great balance of soft and warm and I really adored it. Also beginning where we ended because time travel zakkura epic has been Fun and the story's just beginning. It was also started on an absolute whim and is my self-indulgent wip.

He also didn’t comment on the fact that eventually Sephiroth’s arms wound their way around him, instead of remaining locked around Seph’s own body like they were trying to hold broken pieces of him together. But they did. His fingers found themselves in the fabric of Zack’s shirt, clinging almost as tightly. Zack let him, and simply kept his grip steady on Sephiroth. Offering comfort as he could.

And tucked there in the space between the bed and the wall, a barrier was breached between them that neither one would have ever guessed at.

Sephiroth cried.

It made Zack’s heart ache. Like everything about the Commander when he wasn’t giving orders on the battlefield, his grief was quiet. Silent tears found their way into the collar and shoulder of Zack’s uniform top. Breathy sobs made as little sound as possible, even this close to Zack’s ear. Smothered by a stranglehold that even now, Sephiroth couldn’t let go of.

Zack wondered how many times Sephiroth had been scolded for having feelings that this was the reaction he’d gotten while trying to comfort him. It renewed Zack’s desire to find Hojo and break him. But… he was needed here.

Zack didn’t know how long they stayed there between the wall and the bed anchored together. Didn’t know how long they sat in the eye of the storm that was Sephiroth’s grief. Didn’t know how long he murmured what he hoped were words of comfort and held the man while the new wave of grief bled itself out.

Biggest surprise while writing this year? Biggest Surprise... honestly probably walking into the FF7 fandom and doing fanworks for it at all. If you'd told me this time last year that the vast majority of my works would be ff7 based this year I would have probably laughed. I spent ages afraid of this fandom even though I've loved the work since I was like 12. But I'm here, and I'm really glad for that!

1. I think my favorite thing about shipping is that every ship is so different and they allow you to really bring out parts of both characters that are hard to see by themselves.

Take Shisui and Itachi. Shisui brings out the vulnerable side of Itachi. More than just soft, its the part of Itachi that doesn't feel the need to bear the weight of the world entirely on his shoulders. Its the part of itachi that is small and lets himself be fragile in a way that I don't feel like comes across in any other pairing versus Itasaku which I think brings out more of Itachi's playfulness and nurturing side.

2. I think it depends a little bit on my writing partner. There are some people that I've written with where shippy stuff seems to come pretty easily/naturally. So those threads I tend to wing it. Other people or especially newer RP partners that I've agreed to ship with, I prefer to talk things out more.

3. Forced shipping is the quickest way to turn me off from a potential ship. I'm not gonna judge someone for whatever personal ships they have, but if you try to force those into an RP with me without consent or worse, after I've already expressed discomfort with the idea of told someone that I'd rather RP non shippy stuff while I get to know their writing style and decide if we mesh, not only will it turn me off from the ship but I'm also not going to want to RP with them much at all in general. and unsolicited NSFW stuff will get an automatic block.

4. Ive had one or two experiences on here of people who were a little pushy about shipping our muses. I don't intend to name names or start drama. but it has happened. This site hasnt been so bad as some forums I've been on, though.

5. Depends on who is doing the flirting and if the mun has recently posted anything to invite it. For example, flirting from a muse I currently have established ships with or from anons after I've reblogged a starter inviting the flirting would be met with fun banter, where as unsolicited flirting will be met with either polite disinterest or potentially outright irritation depending on how strong it comes on.

1. How many words have you written this year?

i published 110,143 words this year! written...... no clue.

the first half of this year was mostly spent working on the jdau, but the second half was mostly spent on working on oc stuff that i dont post anywhere. i have no way of tracking how much i wrote for that bc this year i shifted all of my oc works from google docs to saved files on my computer, so the dates are all fucking wrong. ; ; if you add that mystery number onto the mystery number of scrapped projects and wips..... theres no telling. theres no telling.

2. How many works did you publish this year?

i posted 12 works on ao3 this year, not counting the fics i rewrote. i posted 9 drabbles on tumblr. this wasnt a great drabble year for me, i think.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

i like the afterlife drabble i wrote about jason and nico. i feel like every time i write about them theres just something so bittersweet and punchy about it. it was a cool idea that kind of leaves me thinking about the world behind it, but not in a way that needs to be elaborated on.

as far as fics psoted on ao3, maybe under the skin? its such a different dynamic, and the tension is drawn so taut, it walks the line perfectly between violence/hatred and grief/love. its one im always second guessing myself about, but i had so much fun with it, sometimes i just have to remind myself its okay to make things just for the sake of exploration/indulgence.

4. What work of yours has the most hits?

snow day, with about 1k hits. i think thats the fic where a lot of people stop reading the jdau. its short, its fluffy, and i do actually still love this one a lot. i wrote it when i needed it.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

i feel like a lot of my drabbles this year were really weak, so ive been surprised by the number of notes some of them have gotten. otherwise, mostly oc stuff? ive always struggled with sharing original content bc it never feels interesting enough, but the few friends i have shared it with have been so supportive and it means everything. @roomfulloferidans and @ashysiashy especially are always encouraging me and motivating me to keep making more, and i mightve given it up a long time ago otherwise tbh

6. Favorite title you used

oh thats gotta be The Family Disappointment actually. i like how much meaning and interpretation is embedded in it. if youve been reading the jdau, you might think its jason, but seeing that the fic centers damian, you might think its him. both boys struggle with feeling like theyre bruces biggest disappointment, but the fic is about brotherly solidarity, and recognizing that maybe bruce is actually the disappointment.

honorary mention to under the skin, bc i think that one was very funny/clever. i also named some oc works "the debilitating fear of garage doors" and "the inherent eroticism of handholding" and i like those a lot.

its a fucking miracle. for once, i didnt use any.

nope! im kind of the writer of my friend group so fics are not generally smthn i receive. however, trustymikh drew this drawing inspired by my mermay bruharv drawing inspired by their mermay harvey drawing, so maybe that kind of counts?? i was delighted to see my bruce design in their style, at least. @roomfulloferidans drew a very nice drawing of my oc rogue that i cherish, @mudp1es and another friend of mine drew our spidersonas, and i participated in an oc art trade where another friend drew my oc barbie. i think those count as gifts, even if its not Ao3 Gifts(TM)

i tend to just loop playlists or single songs, unless im really struggling to concentrate, in which case ill switch to white noise.

my oc fic, the inherent eroticism of handholding, which im 99% sure i did write this year? it captures a very specific kind of uncertain tenderness where a crush is new and theyre feeling out flirting still. i think about the scene where theyre lying together in the dark while everyone sleeps and holding hands for a reason they cant justify, not looking at each other, talking about nothing, all the time. i also rlly like the oc fic i just finished a lot- domestic(ated).

There was a ritual to it. The slow inhale, the gradual exhale. The wind pulled the smoke from his lips, and it disappeared over the rooftops. Bruce’s laugh washed over Two Face. It was vapid and fake over the airwaves, but the memory of it rattled around Two Face’s chest, warm and startled as they rolled in the sheets in Bruce’s dorm. Longing took hold and ached.

a college-ish angsty one shot based off of harry styles from the dining table. 

a/n; this was low-key therapeutic for me to write and my thirst for my bby has reawoken (even tho i haven't seen the new star wars) so i hope yall enjoy and pls message me if you liked it <3

the beginning

Ben Solo knew from the second he saw you, he wanted you. Perhaps want isn’t enough, no, he needed you.

You met at a party. A college party, nonetheless. Back when things were simpler, and all he had to care about was what paper he had to write and when he was going to smoke his next joint. He saw you from across the room, red cup in your hand and not a care in the world on your face, hips swinging to the rhythm of whatever EDM song was being blasted.

He’d always been shy, but the rush from whatever he was drinking was enough to override his fears. You remember the first thing he said to you, no matter how many times he protests that he wasn’t that drunk. 

‘You look a lot like my next girlfriend.’

Despite the cheesy line, it got you hooked to him.

The rest of the night was a blur of bodies being pressed together and teeth against skin, sheets being fisted in your hands as Ben made you fall apart. The morning that followed made Ben think that maybe, just maybe, you were going to be part of him for years to come, as you cooked breakfast in his shirt.

Ever since that first night, you were wrapped around Ben’s finger, as he was yours. As you both began to mold your separate lives into one, you began to learn each other. You learned what made him his blood boil and his fists shake, and you learned what made him feel like he could climb mountains, as he did the same for you. It seemed like when the two of you were together, you could both take over the world, and it appeared like so to others; to your friends, family, coworkers, everyone.

But not everything was as perfect as it seemed. 

Both of you were strong, independent people; dominant personalities, you suppose. This factor reared its ugly head as the honeymoon phase came to a close.

It started with little things, like taking too long to text back or coming home too late. The passive-aggressive comments would build and build until it came like an explosion, words being tossed around like grenades, tears being shed, and doors being slammed.

Even though the words would hurt, you knew he loved you, and he knew you loved him. And the fights would be over as quickly as they started, ending with his lips against yours and your clothes on the ground, and all would be well, because you loved each other, and you knew that would make this work. It had to work. It just had to. 

Ben had always seen red when he would get mad. When he was younger, his anger would pour out of him like a waterfall and he never learned how to control it until you came into his life, encouraging him to seek help for it. Never would he think he would see red again, until the moment he knew you were going to leave him.

He doesn’t see red when he saw you shoving your clothes into your suitcase, tears and mascara streaming down your cheeks, no, he sees flames, flames red and burning.

“You’re going to throw five years of us away? Just like that?” He screamed, and you just chucked the closest thing to you at him, ironically it being a framed photo of the two of you. It shattered as it fell to the floor. 

“I’m over this shit, Ben! I’m fucking over it!” Your voice had become more of a sob, as you pushed past his tall frame. He tried to grab your arm, but you ripped it out of his arm, continuing to the door. “I’m sick of the fighting! I’m fucking sick of it all!” 

The door was halfway open when he furiously spat out, “I never fucking loved you.” 

That stopped you in your tracks. Turning around to take one last look at him, you can see his chest starting to heave, and his lower lip quivering. You could have yelled at him, told him to go to hell, the whole works. But you knew he didn’t mean his words.

He never did. 

So you just looked at him, and you turned around and left, saying nothing, leaving Ben standing alone in the kitchen you once cooked in, wearing his shirt.

He thought you would’ve called. You always did, even when you were the one in the wrong. But as the days turned to weeks and the weeks into months, your name not even once popped up in his phone. You hadn’t even come to the apartment to gather your things; your brother had. 

It took a bigger toll on himself than he thought it would have. 

For the first month, he drank. Every night he would come home and drink until he either cried or punched a hole in the wall, drafting message after message to you but never getting drunk enough to the point where he would send it. He wanted to think you were doing the same, but he knew you wouldn’t be. You were going to move on, and you were going to do it without him.

The second month, Ben found himself on dates at bars with women who he swiped on, all bearing a resemblance to you that he kept denying to himself. When they would be asleep in your spot in his bed, he would catch himself beginning to say your name, before feeling the wrench in his heart become bigger, and would instead get up to get a drink.

It took nearly four months for him to finally get a grip on himself, to actually feel like he could live his life without you apart of it, and the same went for you.

Five years with someone is a long time. Five years you spent with Ben, building a life together, planning a family and everything in between. But life has a funny way of working sometimes; and maybe one day, months, maybe years from now, you can both find the closure you’re looking for.

But for now, trying to rebuild what was once broken in the two of you, is what matters most.

Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

hmm okay well the thing im currently actively working on (though actively is a really strong word because my job has been Insane lately) is a novel (non-fic) n she is a tiny little baby mollusk just screeching into the world so i dont wanna talk abt her (also working on a non-fic short story i dont wanna talk abt for the same reason n also privacy). but in terms of fic that i currently have open in tabs!!!!

ats season 4 for my faith series - the progress of this is pretty minimal bc im holding off on starting work on it until i make more headway on my novel outline, bc writing these faith fics inevitably takes over my life . but! mostly right now my notes are full of like, rambly ideas about how to Fix the Jasmine of It All because i want Jasmine to be a character but, by keeping connor a baby, and my determination to keep cordy herself, i need to change How she comes about . but ok the thing i love most about getting to rewrite this part is that to me ats s4 is where it All Goes Wrong. like, it's the character assassination of cordelia chase, and the show really hitting a misogyny peak which is impressive when u consider how misogynistic it already was . to me the ats s3 finale has so much promise which s4 inevitably makes mean essentially Nothing -- mostly in terms of the show's treatment of cordy. so im basically really hyped to write an s4 that is very much About cordy - about cangel! about angel working through (read: getting bullied by the entire fang gang about until he does something about) some of his misogyny, to become the kind of person who could be in an actual long-term relationship w cordy. this s4 rewrite said Angel's Madonna Whore Complex is On The Chopping Block . also im just really hyped to write jasmine. like, writing mind-altered states to me is very fun-- i love writing dream sequences and ritual sequences and intense emotions . so writing faith under jasmine's thrall ??? im hyped. also maybe half the reason this series exists is to occasion a faith/gwen fling sooooooooo.

i also have open a russian doll fluff fic - basically nadia and alan do a marathon watch of all the timefucky episodes of btvs . i simply love to Make Characters Watch TV . i LOVE writing their dialogue i love them so much. i love getting to rant about btvs filtered via the voice of nadia . the progress of this is decent !! i have like a quarter written and the rest roughly outlined

also have a VERY sparsely outlined succession fic about shiv being a lesbian . essentially a 5+1 (5 times shiv lost to her comphet and 1 time she didn't teeheeeee) . what im excited about here is simply that shiv roy is a lesbian and the world has to know. and also ive never written a 5+1 but i think the concept is just so fun.

ALSO i have another lottie lee yellowjackets fic in drafts . this is very new, mostly just popping the vague vibe of it and a few dialogue ideas into a document . but basically it's based on the new florence song 'casssandra' and it's going to be like, half taking place before laura lee's death and half after. what im hyped about this one is that lottie's precognizance makes me INSANE it makes me INSANE INSANE INSANE and i really wanna dig into just a very heavy heady fucked up littel tone here . also i just . i love lottie lee but i cant even think abt them and im excited to Think About Them In A Structured (lmao) Place bc hopefully that will make the process more tenable!!!!!!

10. How would you describe your writing process?

i've often described it as "building the ship as i sail it" . i love to outline, it's the way that i can write the quickest and with the most energy -- i like basically having little story headings for plot beats, and writing each segment, bc then i can have in my head exactly what im building towards, and can keep a sense of pacing in my head bc i know what else the story is going to contain . but also this allows me to write things out of order , while still having a general sense of the shape of the overall story, bc otherwise things can get really topsy turvy in my head.

but also im a big outliner-as-i-write. like often i will start out with a few story headings that are very sparse, and as i get the idea for one, ill get a sense of how to flesh out another, and im gradually filling in the whole picture, which each part interconnecting to and allowing me to fill in other parts.

like, i guess i write in the same way i solve crossword puzzles.

23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

ooh okay -- gonna keep it to fic bc again my original writing is my Sensitive Little Boy (and also i aim 2 have more of that published n and dont want to connect my tiny internet corner to my public writing, in the interest of current n future privacy). but!!!! the two fics ive had in my head the longest i think are both from my spike fluff series:

a spuffy happily ever after wedding fic . exactly what it sounds like on the tin . spuffy getting married - their engagement and wedding and them establishing their life together . also an Everyone-Lives fic, literally partly bc i just want it to be the fluffiest lightest thing possible, and partly bc (as ive demonstrated lol) i simply love writing a Big Chaotic Wedding Where Everyone Is In the Room and Interacting . so like, jenny is alive and wesley and and cordelia and anya and tara and fred and everybody and probably even also joyce-- not kendra just bc i cant undo her death without changing too much of the timeline? but i am Trying to find a way to work her in like, idk maybe ghost kendra is at the wedding idk guys. anyway i love this fic so much i have so much of it drafted and just havent had time 2 devote to it yet . but married spuffy is so real to me theyre SO real to ME!!!!!

a spike and harmony do laundry together fic okay hear me out. early s5 . spike finds out harmony has never done laundry . her parents always did it for her and then her minions and after that she legit panicked bc it felt too late to learn and either paid for a cleaners' to do her laundry or just kept stealing new clothes when her old ones were dirty. but then the cleaners refuses to do her laundry anymore bc she killed too many of them . spike finds this out . he's like. you cant do LAUNDRY? harmony is like what like you CAN? he's like yeah i learned last year at xander's (he's very proud). spike and harmony descend on the 24 hour laundromat . it becomes clear that spike is Very Bad At Laundry Still but Moderately Better Than Harmony . they may or may not break several washing machines from bashing them in a fit of rage. gradually harmony becomes the queen of the late night laundromat demon social scene . this fic means so much to me i could cry. also ive never written spike/harmony before and simply put i think they are so FUN . they are SO FUN.

1. First things first, did you have a good year?

I think so!! nothing groundbreaking, but I'm much more involved in my life now than I was back in February/March, if that makes sense!! I lurked a lot in obikin fandom before ever posting, which just meant that I read a lot but then never really commented or interacted which is nice, but it was lonely too (mostly also because i've been a fandom lurker for different fandoms since like 2013). so at least even though not many leaps and bounds were made in my personal life, i got y'all!!

17. Did you make any big permanent changes this year?

I really really really really wanted to get a tattoo. so far that hasn't happened because more important, expensive things would happen like a day before i was planning to schedule a consultation, but i still really really want another tattoo, so here's hoping that in 2022 i will get one!!!!

38. What was the best moment of the year for you?

In June, I moved out of the place I was living with two of my best friends, which was sad, but we moved one of us into a place just down the street and prepped the other one for her move a few states away. I think it's one of the only goodbyes that was sad but that didn't feel like the ending of something important---just a different sort of continuation. it made the whole moving experience much more fun i think, and a stand out moment this year <3

OKAY SO some things about CERTAIN technicalities regarding techniques

I think my ONLY issue in the anime is that the power of ones Curse is never really explained properly

How do they develop different kinds

Where does it originate from

How are some people born with curse energies and some arent

Like yuji learns them on the spot and it's a bit jarring bcs as the viewers we're still learning the extent and classes of curses and curse users AND JUST NEW ABILITIES KEEP POPPIN UP all, "there's this cool trick did u know about it?" oh and for the sake of the plot, "i can now totally do this" (ones domain becoming weak from exterior force acting upon it rather than an interior force acting upon it from within) a convenience that popped out of nowhere it makes sense, but wish abilities were explained better, so the build up is more rewarding? the black flash for example, with yujis powerful ability coupled with his curse dragging a split moment behind his initial attack, shouldnt he already be accessing the point-break of his attack colliding with the curse energy of his foe? what i didn't understand is, does one have to focus on that point of collision for it to activate and force ones energy into it? I DONT GET IT I SWEAR IM NOT DUMB unless it's been explained and i completely missed it

The students are in high school but there aren't any classes?? I get the whole on-field, hands-on lessons/missions to get recommended and move to higher grades, but NOTHING ABOUT curses and their history for newbies to learn from?? Alright my bad

I loved the animation, it was so fluid and the motions were executed so flawlessly

the action scenes were rewarding and delivered it's intended blows and full of emotion at times that i 🥺🥺

the comedy's everything??? megumi and yujis chemistry was so heartwarming and hilarious GOD don't become enemies/rivals pls lmao SPEAKING OF, the times i thought they would esp when yuji surpasses megumi, the anime takes a whole new approach where there's no enmity just healthy acknowledgement of their friends growth and how focusing on themselves better might help them achieve their own full potential, as seen when megumi activates his shadow domain after an eye-opening talk with gojo

such healthy displays of being teammates

after watching animes where two besties start challenging one another so aggressively after one surpasses them, this was just...we see u and we APPRECIATE

Hi I wanted to get more into writing and you’re one of the best writers I know so I was wondering if you had any advice/tips for a new writer? (Or good starting prompts I have no clue where to even begin)

hi, hello, sorry that i left this sitting in my inbox for so long. ive been alternating between forgetting about it and remembering it but having no idea how to respond, so i'm just gonna start typing while i'm thinking of it and hopefully some inspiration will come as i do.

first off: thank you!!! that's very kind of you to say. i'm flattered that you came to me with this inquiry. before i give you the rest of this, i can direct you to this other ask i answered, which also asked me for writing advice. that answer is more technical and more about the actual process of writing itself rather than sort of the "writer's journey" or whatever, which is what this is.

so...okay. advice. i can do my best, though i will admit i haven't been a new writer in quite a long time, so i don't know how much this will track. that said, i do have the perspective of being able to look back on my past self from when i was a new writer, so i guess here are some suggestions i can give you based on that:

read. this one is surpassingly self-evident but it is true for all writers everywhere and ESPECIALLY good for fanfic writers - read fic. trust me, the quickest way to get an idea of how to write characters is to see how lots of other people are writing them.

write what you want to see written. there's always something!! the best best best place to start writing is filling a gap for the content you would love to read but that no one else is writing. this trick has never failed me. you think anyone else is writing acappella AUs? nope, it's just me. (so far. eyes emoji.) have you ever thought to yourself, "man, i wish someone would write a fic where ____" ?? THAT'S YOUR FIC. write it. go for it. it's all you.

get an editor. a beta, if you will. a second set of eyes who - and this is important - will give you honest and helpful feedback on how to improve your story. genuine caveat: if you don't care about improving then fuck this step. sometimes you just wanna create and you don't want judgement or anything. that's totally valid. but if you want to hone your craft, you need a second opinion, and you need someone who won't just say "this is soooo good!" and omit all the parts that could use a facelift. constructive criticism is your friend. i still remember con crit someone gave me from like five years ago. it made me a better writer.

i am now at a crossroads, because as a fic-writing veteran i want to advise you to not post immediately, and to sit on your writing for a little while and leave and come back to it with fresh eyes, because that is genuinely a good piece of advice. however. i understand the urge to post a fic. validation is always nice!! and i am really not one to talk about delayed gratification. so i'm going to stand by this, but just know that i know it's hypocritical and a little preachy. but there is real value in leaving your fic for even just a few days, untouched, and then returning to it. you start to catch little details, or even bigger ones, and because you refrained from posting it, you have the opportunity to fix those problems. i have gone back and reread some fics that i wrote and then posted in a spur of the moment, and i wish i'd waited to post those ones. there are things i would fix.

obviously this has a dark side, which is that if you keep sitting on a fic and returning to it you're going to keep finding problems with it and then you're just beating a dead horse, but there's a sweet spot in the middle there and i trust you to find it.

and of course the most important piece of advice, which trumps all this other shit i've said:

write. write! just write something. whatever thoughts you're having, write them down. they don't have to form a cohesive story. they don't have to become anything. you have a picture in your mind? describe it. you see two seconds of a scene? put it in words. eventually an idea is going to grab you by the throat and threaten to throw you into the river unless you write it right now this minute. and on the other end of that, you'll have written a story, and that's awesome. writing anything at all is amazing, because you told a story where a story didn't exist. you put words together that had never been put together that way before. you created something unique. well done.

NOW as to prompts!!! i can direct you to my prompts tag. unfortunately i'm not sure how much more specific i can be with this, because everyone feels differently about different kinds of prompts. for example, i personally prefer dialogue prompts to scenario prompts, because i think dialogue prompts still leave the opportunity to write any scenario at all, as long as you can fit the dialogue in there. on the flip side i know there are people who prefer scenario prompts specifically because it gives you the exact scenario in which the characters find themselves, and they can be doing or saying more or less whatever you decide, but you don't have to choose the AU/circumstances because they've been chosen for you. different strokes, different folks! i recommend choosing one that inspires you and seeing what you do with it. if you get stuck, try again. there's no limit to the number of prompts you can steal for your own personal gain. go absolutely insane.

Ive only ever read(religiously&repeatedly)your h/d stuff.I'm not really a tv person and I'm pretty picky about what I read/watch etcalso I dont have much time, but I love your writing so much.I want to consume it ALL.So I'm wondering if (any) your other works are the kind where I can go in unfamiliar with the derivative source?Or if there isnt, which ones would be quickest to consume so I can hop in and get to your sweet sweet writing?Or which have themes I'd like as a fan of your h/d works.

Unfortunately, I’ve tried, but rarely find myself able to write the Any Two Guys type of fic. I actually think the closest I get is my H/D fic, because I write them as adults who have moved quite beyond the events of canon. Still, you’ll probably notice from my H/D fics that I still rely heavily on canon events that would cause Harry trauma and emotional difficulties, and would cause Draco to feel some guilt or suffer punishment and require forgiveness in Harry’s eyes. I also still rely on magic and the loose premise of the wizarding world, and you’re expected to know characters like Ron and Hermione without explanation.

Most of my stories in other canons are like this. In fact, some require rather intimate knowledge of canon so that the reader can know things that the POV character doesn’t; this is why these stories work.

But! I did write a complete AU in a fandom, The Walking Dead. The show is a super violent gory zombie show that has a lot of boring fighting but some excellent character development and later, some really thoughtful questions about what society is and how it can and should work. The complete AU means no zombies, no gore, no fighting, no anything like that. The AU also posits something about a major character that is not seen at all in canon, though I will say this character in canon is quite reserved so it’s possible to do some interesting things with him.

Anyway, I think it would be very easy to read this series with absolutely zero canon knowledge, and I’m really happy with the series. The first fic is unrequited pining, otherwise, mostly gen. The second fic is really shippy and devolves into lots of porn without a clear ending. The third fic is a pwp you could skip. The last fic occurs after a significant time skip. I just love this series, honestly. It’s a comfort fic for me, and I wrote it at a time in my life when I needed comfort. Please do read the warnings--there’s a bit of emotional and physical abuse. Out of everything I’ve written, that’s the only one that’s possible to read without context, imo. The next three, you could read with only watching one movie each:

Go Your Own Way: I’m a bit embarrassed to rec you this, as I wrote it 9 years ago and um, the porn is not quite how I would write it now. However, this fic is actually the pre-cursor to The Boy Who Only Lived Twice, and if you read it, you’ll be able to see that TBWOLT is basically the same story, except H/D. You would need to watch The Dark Knight for this, although Batman Begins is also rather important. I’m not a fan of Batman Begins, so I’m sorry. But anyway, this is the most like my H/D stories with the least amount of canon to consume.

Sincerely Your Pal : For this one you would just need to watch the first Captain America movie--I can’t really recommend the movie, but I love the characters. I will say this story has a lot of the really intense feelings and self-reflection my H/D stories do, but it’s epistolary so quite different than a lot of things.

Responsible Science: This is a series, and you would need to watch The Avengers. The series is mostly gen, so I would say it’s not really like my H/D stories in that regard, though my writing always tends to deal with themes of self, self-expression, self-control, self-respect, anger, kindness, and limitations of society. I’m proudest of this series out of all the things I’ve written.

I can’t say there’s really anything else you could read without getting a bit of primer on the canon.
