“Ahoy!” called a confident, but somehow not very friendly, voice. Behind them, a small skipper pulled by two eeligators waited. The creatures’ reptilian heads broke the surface of the water, their yellow eyes blinking sideways at the three haphazardly arranged boats. The boat’s “captain,” if he could be called that, stood with one foot on the bow. His hair and beard grew wild and long, and a menagerie of mismatched trinkets and jewelry dangled off his coat. Two shoddily dressed henchmen hovered behind him. “Now that’s a pirate!” Flamer said delightedly, seeming to miss what exactly that meant for them.
Avatar: Threads of Power chapter 6 is now live on AO3! It only took me forever to post because I had trouble drawing a promo image that felt right. Then I realized I've hardly drawn Klo at all. Pretty happy with the result though!
Hopefully chapter 7 comes out a bit sooner. It was one of my favorites to write so I have plenty of art ideas for it.

korra and zagreus - @sangreprince
Her hold loosened at last, releasing her friend from her embrace. " You had me worried you wouldn't find this place for a second there, " she teased, glad to put her doubts to rest. This wasn't exactly the most well-known Earth Kingdom town, so that alone had posed a challenge for their reunion, among other concerns -- which now appeared rather stupid and unfounded.
The place they had agreed to meet had a good view of the dimming sea, of the copious boats drifting along the coast lighting up like lanterns in the evening. It reminded her of the Glacial Spirits Festival, lent a sense of home, even in this faraway place. Now that Zag was here too, practically nothing was missing. " Oh, by the way, " she began, flipping over her backpack, " since we're headed to some kinda chilly places later, I thought I'd bring you some stuff -- since we both know you aren't exactly cold-proof. " She gave him a knowing, teasing glance from searching her bag's contents.
" First off -- underlayer! " A shirt made of a coarse, rigid fiber and dyed in Southern Watertribe colors was produced, handed over for the Prince to inspect. " It has Naga's hair in it. You won't even remember what cold feels like. " The statement was followed by a grin that had a sliver of pride to it. " And, socks. " Now, the Prince was given a pair of thick, woolen socks of uneven stitch -- no doubt crafted by two artisans of very different mileages. " I tried to make them by myself but, I'm nowhere near as good as my mom. Or as fast. But -- wait a second. " Her expression quickly fell into scrutiny, her gaze jumping between the Prince's feet and his eyes. " You often do that -- fire thing -- with your feet, right? "

Okay, on a more serious note about “Avatar Seven Havens”, the one thing I’m disappointed about with the series is that it seems like Avatar Studios is too afraid of continuing the thread from Korra. I feel like there was a lot of room to really explore the state of the world after Korra, such as the new Airbenders trying to form their own nation, new alliances being formed, the Avatar feeling more and more like a relic of the past due to the advancement of technology.
Instead, they went the post-apocalyptic route. Sounds interesting, but it also feels like it was done because the writers were either afraid of continuing the world expansion started by Korra or just didn’t know how. Personally, I’m leaning towards they didn’t know how considering how Legend of Korra approached more serious topics (coughnonbenderdiscriminationcough). So instead of dealing with things that are beyond their capabilities, such as complex politics, they wipe the board clean so that it’s back to spirits and magic.
That’s the one thing I’m disappointed by. I’m actually fine with everything else. Korra being a hated figure could work as a meta-narrative on Korra’s actual reputation in the fanbase. The Avatar being a hated figure is something I actually really like since that’s a natural development for this kind of character. If there’s a superhuman figure existing in the world whose main responsibility is keeping the peace between the nations, then none of the nations actually have freedom/autonomy since the Avatar is the world police. It makes sense that the Avatar would eventually be hated once the people realize they have to abide by this superhuman’s authority, especially since the Korra series introduced democracy.
But the post-apocalyptic setting…it feels like a cop-out. In my opinion, it feels like Nickelodeon didnt want the Avatar Universe to get too complex, so they reset the world in a way that the main focus will be on more cartoonish concepts. Sure, post-apocalyptic can still be dark, but the politics of Korra (and even ATLA) are gone now. Even though I have MAJOR gripes with how Korra approached politics, the show at least had the courage to take it on. But now, Nick seems to be pushing for the Avatar Universe to be a lot safer and to take less risks. I mean, look at the ATLA Netflix show, they took away Sokka’s misogyny because they thought it was too much for present day audiences.
I guess we’ll see how this goes. I like some of the ideas, but I’m skeptical overall.

It's a great relief when Bolin joins in on the evasion. The Avatar is quick to nod and chime in with all manner of yeahs and totallys. Who came up with this stuff, right? Still, her cheeks and ears continue their searing burn, with no promise of relenting for as long as the two of them lingered on the topic, and under this darned plant she hadn't been able to ignore.
" Yeah. Silly, " she echoes, chuckling a little, amused with Bolin's ramblings and the jokes woven in so effortlessly. Silly. Is it?
Her ears catch the words kiss you from Bolin's next word jumble, and suddenly her entire being flushes as hot as a glowing coal, stiff and stuck staring at him. She can't stop imagining it now, of looking at Bolin in this light beneath the mistletoe. Curiosity grows on her unbridled, wondering what it would be like to kiss him, to be cradled by his larger form like all the ladies in sappy romance stories. She can't deny she's wanted to experience that -- and it doesn't seem too strange for that to happen with Bolin, now that she considers it. It doesn't have to ruin their friendship, or mean anything either, does it? A part of her however, the wiser part now lost beneath excitement, knows that something will change irrevocably as a result. But that can no longer deter the young Avatar, too enchanted by the novelty and thrill to be had here. For better or worse, she has to get this impulse satisfied now.
" Uh, that ... doomed to bad luck does sound pretty bad, I think? " she starts, wishing she could facepalm at how stiff she sounds, even to herself. Better not linger on it. " If you believe that a ... hanging plant ... can cause such a thing. But it-- it doesn't hurt to be safe, right? "
Merely looking at Bolin burns now, and so her gaze darts around, searching for anywhere else to settle. The tips of her boots, idly or nervously shuffling at the thin layer of snow on the street, seem good enough for the moment. " Unless it's uh, totally stupid and you're not interested-- I mean, believing in that kind of bad luck stuff. "
It's her turn to huff out an unconvincing laughter. " Because I kind of wouldn't exactly -- mind? It's not like it has to be a big deal or mean anything, it's -- just for avoiding the plant curse ... thing. " When she dares look up at him then, it's with a vulnerability that she can't conceal, a question playing in the glint of her gaze.
The way she halts the two of them is a little sudden, yet hesitant. " I noticed, uh, " she begins, falling short of daring to elaborate. Put on the spot by none other than herself, an embarrassed red is creeping on her features. " There's this one silly tradition, " she tries again, a hand rising to rub her nape, " that if you happen to be under that plant up there, you're ... supposed to kiss? "
She attempts to look amused, to hold her gaze on Bolin, but both fall a little short, like her attempts at air bending. " It's also for like, couples, which we aren't -- exactly? So I don't know why I told you this. "
Only, that she does know-- but she can't just blurt out the whole truth now, can she? She'll have an even bigger mess in her hands. " I guess, growing up holed up at the compound I missed out on a lot of silly, regular stuff like this. "
一 korra to bolin! I heard you like mistletoes....... / from @avatarwithin
❖ || @avatarwithin
Bolin's soft green eyes along with his brows flicked up in the direction Korra pointed above their heads. Sure enough, someone had tied up a sprig of mistletoe: its white berries and long, rounded leaves contrasted with the bright red ribbon it hung by. His gaze trailed back down and focused back on the Avatar in front of him, clocking how her cheeks started to lean toward a shade closer to the ribbon he just looked at. Immediately, his ears started to follow suit as he started to feel hot under his collar, despite the lack of firebending taking anywhere near the two of them.
His thoughts immediately rushed between trying to process whatever rules he may have heard about this ritual over the years and Korra speaking at him about what she knew about it. He definitely knew about it... not that he personally ever came across it before either, like her. Yet, here they were.
"Oh- Uh, yeah!" His voice cracked a bit once he finally found it. Mortified, he quickly lifted a fist to his mouth as he cleared his throat. "I mean, yeah," he tried again, his voice dropping an octave lower than necessary. "It's just a silly winter thing, like you said. Nothing, like, serious or anything. I mean, for me, I can't say that I've been around it all that much since I lived on the streets — you already know the story — but I heard that anyone who turns down a kiss, they're doomed to bad luck."
While he was quick to ramble, it took him a moment to process what he just said before he started to fluster and his gaze was everywhere else but Korra, waving his hands dismissively. "I-I mean that just sounds like a way to kinda force someone to kiss 'em or something. And it's not like there's some Mistletoe Task Force in the RCPD that'll come and get people who don't do the thing..." He pursed his lips in apprehension before he tried to save face by nonchalantly lacing his fingers behind his head to appear more casual.
"Soooo, it's not like you're actually obligated to actually kiss anyone actually. It's just a silly winter thing. Yeah. So silly." The huff of a laugh that punctuated that sentence wasn't going to fool anyone as his cheeks burned hot as well as the rest of him. However, the idea wasn't that silly to him, but this display he had put on sure was. He needed to stop talking immediately.
"AndIdefinitelydidn'tmentioningthatpartbecauseIwantedtokissyouorwhatever, haaaah." The laugh that tapered the end of that marathon of words exited Bolin's mouth like an exasperated exhale. Despite the cold weather, he was sweating waterfalls at this point.

A realization I’m left with after the finale is that a part of my discontentment with the narrative is tied up to a feeling I have, that (to me) Taliesin seemed to be the only person at the table who was aware of how religion works on a societal and personal level and how it can be utilized and/or weaponized. This culminated to two scenes:
1) How Matt played the holy people of Vasselheim reacting to the news of the gods becoming mortals. It was incredibly strange to me that they immediately started to question what Vasselheim was for and what they themselves were there for, especially since Matt went out of his way to reassure everyone that divine magic was not going to be disappearing (which in and of itself is a plot hole in my opinion, and kinda makes me feel icky even though I’m a hard core atheist in real life, but that is not the point of this post). Why would their faiths to their missions as their gods’ representatives be diminished, when their gods now physically walk with them? Vasselheim is going to become the center of the world!
For me the obvious thing would have been that Vasselheim would immediately start to build their power (go to war with the Kryn Dynasty for the beacons), their temples and castles for the moment their gods are found and they can be brought to sit on their thrones. Considering how the Dalai Lama is treated irl or, as a more light hearted example, the Avatar is treated in Last Airbender and Korra (which we know Matt knows about because of Keyleth), I would think that the people who have been worshipping their gods for years/decades/centuries would devote themselves to their upbringing.
It is incredibly difficult to get people to change their deeply held beliefs, because people have endless amounts of ways to get rid of cognitive dissonance that challenges their view of the world. And in CR, people literally just spoke to their gods that TOLD THEM ”I’m gonna be back, please find me”! Why would the holy people of Vasselheim have a crisis of faith, when they have actual proof of the existence of their gods?
2) On the other hand I did not understand the way Vex and Keyleth reacted to Percy wanting Whitestone’s spy network to search for the god babies. For some reason they didn’t seem to see the point of this mission, and I really don’t know how much of that was the characters and how much the players. The idea that they should just let the babies grow up however they grow up based on where they are born, completely ignores how there are thousands of people in the world who (I believe) would want to make those babies their literal God Kings or destroy them before they become a ”problem”. Considering how huge of a part of Avatar this is (the genocide of the air nomads anybody?) it would seem weird that this would not be a possible world building or plot thread in CR. So why would this be such a blind spot for Vex and Keyleth who, in my opinion, are incredibly wise/knowledgeable/experienced characters? And then they didn’t have time/energy as players to actually get into that argument at that point in the game, so it was just left hanging…
In my opinion Taliesin played his characters brilliantly, because every time he switched characters it became more and more apparent, that he was aware of possible societal outcomes of the situation, while also playing faith beautifully, AND on top of that having the most assholishly anti-god character on the table. He really went hard on both character psychology and social philosophy, but for me that couldn’t really shine when no-one else was meeting him on the same level.

Do you think that the gaang atla movie might make casual fans realize bryke are not the best writers? Like Everywhere they get praised but honestly if the writing in the movie is at the levels of the comics I could maybe see ppl turn on them a bit ( it also sucks bc I doubt katara and zuko will even interact in the movie)
Hi anon! I think people will almost certainly be disappointed in the new Avatar Studios movie, because nothing has even come close to the quality of ATLA after the original show ended. However, from what I’ve observed in the fandom, there’s always someone other than Bryke to blame. For example, when people rag on Korra, they blame Nickelodeon. When they rag on the comics, they blame Gene Yang (and incidentally I’ve actually seen a K/ataang shipper say that the reason the comics are so bad is because Gene Yang is a Zutara shipper — as if a grown ass professional would compromise his contract / reputation for a ship war). And when they rag on the first live action movie, they rag on M. Night. I’m not saying that Bryke are completely at fault for the shortcomings for these projects — collaborative creative pursuits are wonderful, magical things and it’s hard to know where credit and blame go when the whole point is that collaboration is beyond the sum of its parts — but the bottom line is that when certain fans are hellbent on not blaming Bryke, there are always other scapegoats.
I’m friends with many casual fans, and they were the ones who got me into the show. Honestly, I don’t think they even gave a second thought to Bryke until they left the Netflix production, which is convenient because now people can credit Bryke for the ingenuity of ATLA and blame Netflix for driving them away. I’m not sure casual fans will turn on Bryke for making a mediocre movie…BUT: if Zuko undergoes a character regression similar to his comics arc, people will probably get mad. Zuko’s redemption arc is widely considered one of the best on TV. You cannot find a Reddit thread about “best redemption arcs of all time” without Zuko being one of the top answers. From Bryke’s interviews, it kind of feels like they don’t really understand his appeal, and if they butcher his character in the absence of writers who got him more…well, I think people will be real mad about that. I mean, people got so mad about NATLA Katara, and she’s nowhere near as beloved as Zuko b/c misogyny and racism and many people found her annoying but that’s a whole other thing
And on a related note, I agree that Katara and Zuko will probably barely interact in the new movie, and it will seem kind of stilted and awkward. I remember an interview with Aaron Ehasz where he said that he’s not really a shipper and he doesn’t write stories with shipping in mind: what matters more is letting the narrative drive itself. That POV, undoubtedly shared by others in the writers’ room (including MVP Elizabeth Welch), is what was responsible for the development of the Katara - Zuko friendship in the original show in the first place. It’s very, very stifling to prioritize a ship war over the actual story. Antis claim Zutara shippers create convoluted fanfic plots where other characters and relationships are downplayed in favour of their ship, but that’s exactly what happens in the canon comics wrt K/ataang. I don’t know if it’ll seem so transparent to the casual viewer, but even if the motivations aren’t obvious, the decline in quality sure will be. For the sake of my love for all Gaang-related shenanigans I hope Bryke won’t go down that road for the new movie, but…well, they’ve done pettier things.
Thanks for your question anon, and please share any of your further thoughts!

Random art/history/spirituality/pop culture thread.
Finished a rewatch recently of A:TLA and Korra as well.
Avatar itself is a South Asian concept that in Sanskrit means Descent, as in descended from - signifying the incarnation/material appearance of a powerful deity or spirit.
Aang and Korra are literally that - the new incarnations of a long tradition of the Avatar being reborn to save/aid/guide a world.
The concept under the name, Avatar, didn't exist in Vedic literature, though, but post-Vedic (again by name, reincarnation and the meaning/point/mythic use did exist, as did a doctrine about the idea of avatars, but again, not the term used as such in some of the original texts).
Instead, terms like "from/of divine descent" - 19th century rising Western interest in Hinduism at the time led to Avatar being yoinked as a loanword to English. But what else?
Well, specifically in the rewatch, something I thought was rather sweet: The mention of Guru Laghima.
This happens in Korra where one of the villains (I shouldn't say no spoilers so far long after the show's ended but...polite?) when a big villain reveals their interest in the writings of this Guru and...it leads to this villain being able to fly.
Well, let's look into Laghima.
Now, there was no Guru Laghima in real life, obviously. But the last name here? It's really a word -- a concept.
Oooooo. A reference.
So, what is Laghima?
In a nutshell. "Lightness." It is "The Absence of Weight."
It is one of the 8 major Siddhis - the spiritual or supernatural abilities achieved by those who've reached the heights of spiritual mastery/divine arts, ascetism/ascetic arts.
If one mastered Laghima one in theory could attain a level of lightness so light in fact, you are truly weightless and can fly.
Don't recommend trying this. But, it was just something I wanted to nerd out about, share, and the nicety of seeing in a major IP.
It is still weird there's like only one Indian guy in the shows though and he's the "guru" monk in the mountains who shows up for one short tight moment to teach Aang about chakras (which btw...he did a damn good job on that though, real talk).
There's a huge thing with art here where a whole host of South Asian stuff is yoinked/altered/coopted more. And there's like...no south asians behind/with it?
To end on a wholesome positive cooperative and comparative note?
If this feels familiar and you're a martial arts film buff, or read wuxia, well, it's because it might strike similar to the use of "lightness" with Qinggong for martial artists to gain the lightness to leap like they in wuxia flicks. Run on water or up on walls. I might do a detailed thread on the 8 major Siddhis though when my brain is better.

I'm trying to stay optimistic about the new Avatar series, but the more I think about the basic concept, the more skeptical I get.
Yes, I am aware that a bunch of production material regarding the series was leaked. But I'm choosing to take said leaks with a grain of salt because there is a lot of conflicting info regarding them.
That being said, I really don't like the concept of making the online discourse surrounding Korra's character a plot point. I get that Korra ended up becoming a really polarizing character thanks to LOK's dodgy writing, but turning internet discourse into an in universe plot thread is never a good idea.
As for the post apocalyptic setting, it feels very fan ficy. I get that Bryke felt that the advancements in tech during LOK's time period limited what they could do when it came to the magic system, but a post apocalyptic setting feels like a concept that only exists to differentiate this show from the previous entries in the franchise.
But I'm willing to reserve further judgement until an actual trailer drops.

As I work on the finale for my Avatar Azula AU, I've been getting ideas for plot threads that would fit into a potential Book 4 (maybe based on Book 2 of The Legend of Korra? Specifically, Harmonic Convergence).
Just wanted to find out how much interest there would be before I get too invested?

In the era of Kyoshi, a scrap of ancient history was discovered. Faded by centuries of dust and neglect, all that could be discerned from the tattered parchment was the words, "Dai Li's agents brought balance to the chaos of Ba Sing Se." It is from this that Kyoshi would find the inspiration to establish a new police force in Ba Sing Se in her era. But what of the original Dai Li? Thousands of years before Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen--a history all but lost to time--the world teetered on the brink. Nations one incident from all out war, environments destroyed by the greed of man, and spirits angered by the insolence of humanity. The spirits threatened to wipe them all out, unless the humans could make a change. From this chaos, a man named Dai Li attempted to unite the world. With his charismatic aura and strange bending abilities, he all but compelled his followers to complete devotion. His power spread, commanding total submission. His daughter, however, would ruin his plans. After his first fall, Dai Li, thought dead, faded into obscurity, and his daughter, granted a strange power by the last Lion Turtle, rose to fill the void of the absent Avatar. Ten years later, Dai Li would rear his head again, and Juno, knowing humanity under Dai Li's rule would have no humanity at all, sought out her own band of benders to take on her father. With all their differences and flaws, she will have her work cut out for her as they face Dai Li's enigmatic cult, their own demons, and the Avatar of whom no one speaks.

“ Might be so sad, might leave my nose running... I just hope she don't wanna leave me.
Sounds of clipping filled the room, your thumb nail fighting for its life against your teeth while you were zoned out on your thoughts.
How does one has to act after such mean comments? All and every single one of them talking about you and your relationship with Korra; 'she's clingy' 'the avatar deserves better' 'she's the worst bender I've ever seen, why is she in the group?' 'she's not even that pretty' echoed in your head since coming back home. You weren't even supposed to hear that conversation, but somehow ended up doing so at a fruit stand after going shopping to bake Korra a fruit cake.
Were you really that clingy with her? It's not even like you were on top of her 24/7... right? She would've say something if she didn’t like it, right? Why were you doubting her? She's the best partner you could've ask for, there's no reason for you to doubt her, why were you? why? wasn't your relationship based on communication? You don't need to doubt her, stop doubting her, they maybe caught something you hadn't, a flaw, was it your bending style? Were you too weak? Were you—
“Hey, darling, I'm home!” the southerner's voice pulled you out of such destructive thoughts. You took your finger out of your mouth.
A slight metal taste was recognized in your tongue and looking down to your nail it was starting to make way for a thread of dark crimson. You were quick to hide it behind your back when the girl opened the bedroom door, such a small smile painted your face.
“Hi, love, how was your day?” you asked, eyes following the brunette while she dropped to your side on the bed and hugged your waist, sighing really loudly.
“Shitty, work, avatar problems, you know.” Korra snuggled better and left a tiny kiss on your cheek. “But now I'm here with you, that's all I needed.”
There you had it, she could never think badly of you. How could you ever do that to her? Maybe they were right, maybe you didn't deserve her in the first place, maybe—
“Hey... Did you hear me?” a hand was shaken in front of your eyes after zoning out once more, you shook your head.
“Sorry, what did you say?” you asked a bit embarrassed, your face feeling warmer.
“I said if you wanted to eat out tonight so we don't have to wash dishes.” she repeated, seating back up now facing you.
“Oh! Yeah! I would love to, choose wherever you want.” another weak smile, Korra frowned and narrowed her eyes after.
“What happened while I was gone?” she directly asked, her arms crossed on top of her chest.
“Nothing!” you were a little too fast to answer, after clearing your throat you continued. “Nothing happened, all is well, I'm okay, you are okay, we are okay, let's go eat dinner!”
You tried to get up with such hurry, but Korra was quicker to take your wrist before crossing the door and pulling you back with her. While grunting you sat right in front of her at the edge of the bed, blue ocean eyes tried to read through yours like that was all she needed to do to understand what was wrong.
“What happened?” she asked again. Her voice wasn't mad or annoyed, her tone was between worried and confused. Both her hands looked to hold yours.
“I told you, it was nothing...” after her eyes moved to your hands, she pointed at your thumb and gave it a couple of touches. You sighed defeated. “It's stupid, you don't have to worry.”
“It's not stupid if it's bothering you.” she moved closer. “You know you can trust me, in hell and worse, remember?”
Her eyes looked glossy, those gorgeous deep eyes that you fell in love with, the same ones you couldn't hide anything from as they knew you a little too well.
You were weak, not even a minute after you exploded with the whole context and arguments of what you heard at the fruit stand and apologized afterwards.
“Stop, no, you don't have to apologize for shit.” darker orbs looked at you; even if she sounded mad, you knew it wasn’t at you. “Those idiots don't know what they're are talking about.”
“No, but–” you tried to argue back, but were cut off by her.
“Don't you ever doubt yourself, ever, you're my girlfriend you do deserve me and even if you're not my girlfriend you're this wonderful and intelligent woman anyone would be so lucky to have or even be.” a mix of blushing and teary-eyed painted your face. “Dumb people are everywhere and jealous people too, they live off spreading rumors or making fun of someone who is successful, who had the courage to do what they never were able to. You are not insufficient nor a failure, you're someone that is still working on her path and it's taking her time to do so. There's no time limit for it, you can take all the time you want, is your life, you decide and if they want to judge so bad let them. Don't allow their words affect you, they will win if you do so, but I know you enough to say that you're strong and will find a way to ignore them.”
With tears making their way down your cheeks and such an affectionate smile, you threw yourself at her for a hug and started to leave tiny kisses all over her face while sobbing, she just giggled while holding you tight.
“I love you so much, like you don't have an idea, it hurts me when you doubt yourself like that.” she whispered, stopping your actions by cupping your face in her hands. “Please promise me you'll try to not let stupid comments like those bring you down. You're so loved and so amazing.”
Your head nodded slightly while a smile began to creep on your face. “I promise.”
“Great.” Korra smiled back at you big before standing up and taking your hand to make you stand up too. “Now let's go, love of my life, I am starving and I think our favorite restaurant has promotions tonight.”

Avatar Netflix Season 2 Will 'Condense' Original Storyline (Exclusive)
Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender will follow in the footsteps of the first season's storytelling "condensing."
Each season of the animated Avatar series had twenty episodes, most of which followed their own adventures. When it came to the live-action show, the first season only had eight hour-long installments.
This led to many elements of the original storyline getting condensed, such as the combination and relocation of a handful of plot threads to the team’s stay in Omashu—meeting the Mechanist, Jet, Bumi, and venturing into the Secret Tunnel.
As one might imagine, these types of changes did not always land well with audiences.
Season 2 Will Condense Original Avatar Storyline
Speaking with The Direct at Paleyfest 2024, Avatar: The Last Airbender Seasons 2 and 3 executive producer Jabbar Raisani confirmed that they will need to condense some of the original story as the Netflix show moves forward.
Raisani pointed out how their handling of Seasons 2 and 3 which will conclude the live-action series - will be "a lot like Season 1," which also means "some condensing" has "to take place:"
"I think it's a lot like season 1. There's a lot of content in the animated series. And we will be looking at all that content. But we don't have the number of episodes that we have in the animated series. So, certainly, there will be some condensing that has to take place."
While speaking to The Direct about the possibility of more original moments in Season 2 for his character, Uncle Iroh actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee shared that he "[does not] know how they’re going to remix the stories" going forward:
"I wish I could; I have no idea what they have planned for us... I know we're getting an opportunity to finish telling the story. Obviously, the animated series is going to be the template for us. But other than that, I don't know how they're going to remix the stories. Nobody tells me nothing. So I'm just gonna show up. And yeah, hopefully, we get a better, clearer sense of where we're going with that in the future. But right now, I have no idea what's going to happen."
While the original animated series has been finished for nearly two decades, the story of those characters will continue in a new animated film called Aang: The Last Airbender.
Currently, not many details are known about the project, but fans do know it will follow team Avatar as they are older following the events Avatar.
As for whether its story will have any influence on future episodes of Netflix’s The Last Airbender, Raisani admitted it will not, at least "not at this point:"
"No, not at this point. We are really looking at the animated series at what came before and less of sort of what they're currently doing on the new movies."
As for whether or not he would be interested in potentially adapting Legend of Korra for live-action, he firmly responded:
"Certainly, I'd be interested in anything that is in this universe."

Remixing Season 2 Episodes Was Inevitable
When it comes to adapting the source material, condensing is unavoidable. Avatar: The Last Airbender fans shouldn't be surprised the same will be happening for Seasons 2 and 3.
Simply put, 20-minute bite-size adventures do not work well for the more extended episode structures of the Netflix show. If the original episode is a self-contained, isolated story, odds are it may not make the cut—or be weaved in with other plot threads.
Hopefully, at the very least, fan-favorite episodes such as the desert spirit library and how Appa got stolen can see the light of day in live action.
One thing that will make it notably more difficult to stick to the original episodes, though, is how behind on Aang’s bending lessons he is. Book 2 is all about him learning earthbending from Toph—however, in the live-action Last Airbender series, he hasn't even started lessons for waterbending.
The show is ahead of the game when it comes to Azula’s storyline, however, as she doesn’t originally appear until Season 2. That alone could save some episodes from the chopping block.

Ler!Korra, Lee!Mako, #23?
23. "You're so squirmy!"
“C’mere!” Korra gathers Mako up in her arms.
“Korra!” Mako twists side to side, wrists pressed firmly to his chest. He gets his knee between them and starts sliding off the bed, nearly free—
Korra wrestles him back down like it’s not even a thought. Mako’s breath leaves him a bit. He tries to console his wounded pride with the sight of Korra’s biceps.
“You’re so squirmy!” She beams down at him as if she isn’t about to destroy him. Mako swallows nervously.
“What? Are you scared of the big, bad Avatar?” She holds her hands in menacing claws. Mako starts struggling harder.
It’s not—he’s not scared of his girlfriend. He’s not. He is just very aware of her mischievous tendencies and how they tend to lean in a…sensitive direction. He’s pretty sure there’s a council of Korra’s in her brain egging her on to mess with him whenever her hands are free. She’s a cunning mastermind. Five steps and three elements ahead.
The soft, squishy Mako locked behind eight vault doors loves it. The chase, the wrestling, the laughter, the trust, all of it. Mako Prime has to at least try and put up a fight.
“Why?” Korra laughs. She leans down to kiss him, smiling into his mouth. God, she’s beautiful.
Focus, Mako. This is how she gets you.
“You know why!” He points an accusing finger. She laughs louder and laces their fingers together.
“Do I?” Korra tilts her head.
The war strategist in Mako’s head starts shuffling through battle plans. He’s got exactly two seconds until she starts giving his bluster any real thought…
He leans up and kisses her hard enough that she follows him down to the mattress. He threads his free hand into her hair—the other is still pinned to the mattress by Korra’s.
“That’s not—“ Korra pulls away for a moment— “This isn’t an answer, Makommph—“
Mako pats himself on the back for the distraction as he pulls her closer by the waist. Korra slips her hand beneath his shirt. Her calloused fingers drag just above his waistband—
Mako yelps. Korra blinks.
Then she grins.
Mako starts twisting again but she’s already got him pinned like this. She raises an eyebrow and starts tickling up his waist, beelining for his ribs. He falls into giggles as easily as he fell in love. Korra’s fingers trip higher, ignoring giggly protests and the weak slapping of his free hand.
He tries to roll his hips and reverse their positions, but Korra clenches her thighs and doesn’t move. The best he can do is roll on his stomach and hide his face.
“Well this isn’t going to help you.” Korra clambers atop his back and neatly shoves her hands under his arms. He shrieks and kicks his legs against that mattress.
“This is s-so much worse!” He laughs deep and tosses his head.
“I know. Shouldn’t’ve turned over, huh?” She grins. She pulls out one of her hands from Mako’s death grip with some difficulty and worms it under him, reaching for his hips—
Mako finally, blissfully gives in.

18+m looking for some avatar the last airbender / the legend of korra rps‼️
the pairings i’m interested in writing are as follows (with my muse bolded!):
zuko x sokka (🤲 holding them so gently)
varrick x zhu li (my beloved)
bolin x/& anybody i literally love him sm
toph x/& anybody i also love her sm
hoping to create a plot together, however i can offer up some ideas if need be to get us started! of course looking to include themes like hurt/comfort, angst, complicated feelings, canon and its innate urge to hurl traumatizing events at children etc, but i’m also looking to include more lighthearted themes like fluff, comedy, general adoration (because i just cannot contain my love for each character from this universe), and the like! i don’t have many limits and i love multimuse plots so i’m open to hearing out any ideas you might have :)
for future partners: i’m a laidback writer! i can write around 500~1000 words a reply, but ultimately i will always match my partner! quality>quantity and all that (as long as it’s more than a couple sentences). i don’t really do rapid fire responses (unless we’ve agreed on a specific kind of thread) so please be aware that i may not respond every day! but i absolutely love brainstorming, sharing headcanons, and just generally gushing about our characters & our plot, so you won’t have to worry about me being unengaged. if any of this sounds like you, then i’m sure we’d get along great!
i rp on discord! if any of this interests you, interact and i’ll reach out🏃🏃

At the Glacier Spirits festival with Mako - @ninetaels
She has never seen Mako the way he appears now, beneath the glow of the festival lanterns, not even beneath the fog-diffused streetlights of Republic City's nightly roads. This light was for many years a memory, like a painting hung on the wall of the compound for her to yearn after. To not forget the outside world.
It's a beautiful light, but it also upsets her. Puts her on edge, like so many things nowadays. Worse, she doesn't have a clear thing to go after, only this ambiguous sense that many things are lost or amiss, all at once. She is both connected and disconnected, a visitor in her own home, in her own memory, a girlfriend on a date and an Avatar on duty, a chief's daughter on home turf that feels foreign. How was everything so much simpler back in Republic City?
Mako, in this light, is like an apparition, like a totally different artist had picked up that painting of her memory and added him there. This deep-seeping feeling of disconnect infuriates her, and she squeezes onto his arm with a little too much force, trying to make them both fit the only way she knows how, by pushing just a little harder.
But she's still distracted. A little further away, she notices @bolinity, and who he is talking to. It had been a few years since she last saw @lustraveil, until they reunited again at the pier, where the Northern Watertribe ship docked for the festival just earlier in the day. It's strange to see her childhood friend grown up, strange to see him from afar in the place where they were once close. Strange, that other people have grown just as significant to her, if not even more so, due to their diverged paths.
Mako, Bolin. She thinks of Asami too, briefly, and tastes a hint of guilt. The same taste which surfaces now, as she gazes at her childhood friend from the arms of her partner.
