Draco shook his head. What a disgrace, Father’s voice hissed in his ear. As if it weren’t bad enough that you’re pining for a boy. Did it have to be this one?

Draco wholeheartedly agreed. It was bad. It was so bad, he couldn’t imagine it being any worse. The unwanted, unwelcome attraction threatened to rip him asunder. Wild urges coursed through his body all day, every day, morphing from lust to rage to longing to horror like a boggart in a crowd.

It had started on the train, where he seized an unprecedented opportunity to stare at Potter, unobserved and uninterrupted, for fully three minutes as they left the King’s Cross station. Which was more than long enough to count the inches Potter had gained over the summer, and get hypnotized by the bobbing of the sharp new bulge in Potter’s throat while he drained an entire water bottle in one go, and to twitch uncomfortably at the action of Potter’s newly muscled arms, nude in his sleeveless Muggle shirt, while he heaved the cages on top of the overhead shelves. Long enough to map the new angles of his face, strange in its familiarity, mark a new nook between the ear and the jaw, the beginnings of a new dip in the chin, the sharpened cut of the eyebrows. Long enough to feel a stab of desperate envy when someone else made Potter laugh. Long enough for Potter to finally look his way and wound him with that reckless green gaze. And if Draco imagined that something had fractured in Potter’s features too, if only for that single moment, so be it. A fantasy to soothe the ache.

Finally getting around to posting a snippet from the fic I'm having the most fun writing at the moment.

Premise: Ginny and Harry are roommates at Grimmauld Place. One day, Ginny incites a prank war with Harry in which Pansy and Draco eventually find themselves embroiled. Ginny and Pansy are dating and Harry and Draco are hopelessly pining away for each other - now more than ever since their roommates dating each other means they are regularly forced into close proximity.

It had begun as most of the chaotic happenings in Harry’s life often did nowadays – with Ginny Weasley being an unholy menace.

He supposes it isn't entirely her fault – she had grown up with Fred and George, after all – but this time Harry has decided that enough is enough. Every now and again Ginny likes to play pranks on him. Little things like switching the sugar with salt so that half awake, he gets a great mouthful of salty tea as he attempts to perk up with a cuppa in the morning, or hiding all of the writing tools in his studio so that when creative inspiration strikes, he has to dash all about the house to find something to sketch with.

The pranks don't usually bother him and he often finds harmless little ways to get back at her in kind, but for some reason this time is different.

They are in the kitchen one Friday afternoon, chatting with Draco and Pansy as the kettle boils, Ginny opens a plastic water bottle and sets it on the counter. Harry doesn't notice this at first, engaged in conversation with Draco about his newest commission as he is, and Ginny exchanges a look with Pansy behind his back.

“Harry,” Ginny’s bewildered voice draws his attention, and he glances at her. She is looking down into the water bottle with concern. “Come look at this.”

“Look at what?” he asks, drifting closer and examining the water bottle as well.

“In there…” Ginny indicates, eyes unmoving from the bottle. He steps closer and she shifts to the side so that he can peer down into the bottle suspiciously.

“I don’t see-” As he leans over the mouth of the bottle, attempting to locate whatever it is that has Ginny so interested, she suddenly tightens her grip around it, squashing it in the middle and shooting a jet of room temperature water straight into Harry’s face and up his nose.

He lurches back with a surprised gurgle, reeling and spluttering. Pansy breaks into peals of laughter and Harry hears Draco make a strangled sort of aborted laugh before he covers his mouth and looks away, shoulders shaking silently.

Ginny is grinning wickedly, eyes glittering with mirth and Harry glares at her through water spots on his lenses.

“Why did you do that?” He demands, taking off his glasses and swiping his face with the arm of his jumper.

“I thought you could use a wash.” She shrugs dismissively, moving across to the table and settling herself in the chair next to Pansy. She leans back with a self-satisfied smile and drapes her arm over the back of Pansy’s chair casually.

“Watch your back, Gin.” He threatens menacingly, using the hem of his jumper to dry his lenses and then settling the frames back onto his face.

“Ooh, I’m so scared.” She gasps, shuddering theatrically and winking at Draco as he finally manages to compose himself. Draco presses his lips together but the twitch at the corner of his mouth betrays his amusement.

Maybe it's because of the audience. Maybe it's just because Harry finally gives in to that childish little voice in the back of his mind that is always insisting that he needs to compete with others, but he decides that this time, he will get back at Ginny in spectacular fashion.

This means war.

i recently got SLIGHTLY into drarry + horror-ish vibes in fics and only read a few but i fell in LOVE with “Yours Is The Earth (Hold On, Hold On)” by chickenlivesinpumpkin - and it was like just the right amount of fucked up & just the right amount of like ‘holy shit??? Thank you @thusspoketrish for tagging me! I'm so excited to finally be sharing the last chapter of my long fic, The Spun Glass Heart. It's almost, almost finished!

Harry and Draco have had to fight to keep their love alive through nefarious plots and the rise of a new Dark Lord, but finally, Harry is celebrating at the Leaky Cauldron with family and friends unaware that Draco is fighting for his life.

But I would love it if each and every person reading this post would share something, take this as your invitation to celebrate your creativity!

Harry choked down the last of the pungent green liquid and raised the glass above his head with a flourish to an ear-splitting cheer from the surrounding crowd. Hands pat at his arms and shoulders, everyone trying to congratulate him at once, until Seamus pulls him into a whole-body hug, shouting over his shoulder.

“Get back you animals, leave the lad alone will yah.” He flaps at their hands until it’s just them again, an island in the stormy sea, grinning at each other like loons.

“Isn’t that Hermione’s?” Dean points unsteadily towards the ceiling.

Harry twists around, wiping the cream from his top lip with the back of his hand, his eyes search for the spot Dean is pointing to. A silver shape twists down towards them, Hemione’s otter Harry thinks, peering at its sleek outline through the pleasant haze of alcohol fuzzing up his brain.

Chapter 11: All I'm Left With is an Aftertaste

Excerpt:

Harry lingers near the door for a moment, his hands awkwardly clasped in front of him. His anxiety seems to fill the room, settling over Draco’s skin like the eerie, numbing sensation of pins and needles. He runs his hands through his dishevelled hair and adjusts his glasses, which have slid down the bridge of his endearing, slightly crooked nose. With a deep breath, he finally strides forward and sits down in the chair next to Draco, turning to face him. He opens his mouth, pauses, and then promptly closes it. His brows furrow as he appears to struggle in search of the right words. “I’m sorry,” Harry finally whispers, his voice paper thin, barely holding together, and fraying at the edges. “I was–I was unreasonable and cruel earlier. I’m–I’m sorry for everything, everything that keeps happening, everything I keep doing. I know I’ve been bloody awful. I can’t help it when I feel like I–when I—” He falters, guilt and fear painting his flushed face before it crumples. His brows draw tight, lips quivering as his eyes squeeze shut for a heartbeat, a tremor passing through his features as though he’s about to break—tears, pain, grief, brimming beneath the surface. But then, as if by sheer force of will, his face smooths over. His hands betray him as he nervously wrings them together in his lap, as if he’s unable to truly hide the monstrosity of complex feelings churning inside of him. Draco stares at him, wide-eyed, shock rooting him to the spot as he feels the blood drain from his face.
