Begrudgingly trying to look for a new phone because my current one (which I’ve had for 8 years) is having some issues but like......hhh.. Every person I know who has a newer phone like.. theirs SUCKS lol.. you can’t take the back off/battery out, some you can’t even change out the microSD because apparently they expect you to just use evil ~~cloud storage~~ or whatever nonsense, they come with so many apps built in which you can disable but not fully delete (wasting space on the phone), can’t control when updates happen, one of my friend’s has to be connected to the internet just to get voicemails??? like having to be connected to wifi or mobile data just for some BASIC functionalities is insane (I prefer to keep my internet disabled at all times unless using it, hate the idea of just being internet connected constantly in the background and having all these apps sending and receiving data and giving dumbass notifications when I’m not even actively using them), SOME of them don’t even have a built-in GENERIC notes app or media player (like I’m just supposed to download spotify instead of using my collection of youtube to mp3 files?? lmao) or photo viewer (I know someone who doesn’t have a generic ‘photos’ app, just “Google Photos’ which prompts them to make an account and login every time they open the wretched thing), etc. etc. etc. 

Genuinely, if it weren’t for my need to be able to use the internet to map and check bus directions/look up things on the go when needed, organize/transport files, and take photos on a whim when I may not have my camera with me - I would legit just get one of those basic non-smart phones where you can only text and make calls lol ... alas... ToT

I’m the housewife kink anon, but I can’t find the fic!!! No one seems to have a downloaded copy on any of the usually haunts either. Pretty sure the author deleted their account which is a damn shame since they were one of my favs. Not rly surprised tho since they were getting some hate for the pairing when I read it a few yrs ago and I imagine it only got worse. So I’ve decided to outline everything that happened in detail!

So the plot was basically aged up Izuku and yandere Aizawa meet at a pre-raid meeting where some big time hero tries to discount Aizawa’s info and talk over him. But Izuku- Eraserhead has been my obsession since I watched his first sport festival-Midoriya shut that down quick with what was essentially an in depth analysis of how Erasehead is a perfect hero, especially compared to the hero that talked shit.

So yandere Aizawa was obviously like mine and started stalking Izuku who could immediately tell (I think he went abroad to train with All Might after Inko died and then helped dismantle AFO’s base of power internationally thus discovering he was still alive and Izuku ended up killing him w/ All Might) but was honestly just rly turned on by it so allowed it.

At the raid, they ended up in the same section and had impeccable team work the whole time which made both of their internal monologues sound like smug cats. They worked so well together that they kept getting paired up on other raids (all human trafficking rings connected with AFO I think) and eventually Izuku got hurt but wouldn’t tell the medics cuz discrimination trauma and paranoia so Aizawa drags him home to give him stitches.

This is where the domestic fluff and house wife kink kicks in bc Izuku cleans+ bakes+ cooks when he’s bored (which he was since he had to wait for the stitches to heal before he went off to do hero work). So Aizawa, coming back from UA to all this plus Izuku splayed out on the couch like a whole snack smiling up at him saying welcome home, goes fucking feral in his head. And it kinda becomes routine for them and there’s was this one scene where Aizawa wraps his arms around Izuku’s waist as he does dishes and puts his chin on Izuku’s shoulder and strokes over the stitches. I think he was humming a love song Izuku was listening to which was jdjejebdbhsjs.

At this point they both want to jump each other but Izuku is like he’s just being nice to me while Aizawa is like if I allow myself to show how much I want to put a collar on him he’d run so I must be careful. But after the stitches heal Izuku just doesn’t leave bc whenever he half heartedly tries to go back to his apartment something happens where he had to stay (all orchestrated by Aizawa of course). Then Izuku’s like fuck it and just brings all his stuff to Aizawa’s apartment while he’s gone and starts paying half the rent without saying anything. Which Aizawa adores since it obviously means Izuku finally realized that he belongs with him and nowhere else. Let’s just say they didn’t manage to stay off each other for long when Aizawa absently used his scarf to pull Izuku out of his way and called him a good boy.

There was also a concerned all might crew going on at first with a lot of wild misconceptions but it all settled over when All Might met Aizawa in person and was like ah young midoriya, I see you have found one that might be able to handle you. Cuz all might is Izuku’s mentor/hero/father figure, and knew exactly what his successor was about. And this feral looking man he managed to find checks all the boxes Izuku- I destroyed AFO more completely in few years than anyone else managed to do in centuries- Midoriya has.

Personally, I'm a huge sucker for cya and have itysg as a second(however, if we decide to count your other fics then... itysg would be third while your smile makes me smile would be second). I think it's the amount of world building that makes it so interesting for me along with the fact that it takes place before the archon war. Like, there hardly passes a day where cya doesn't just... scoot right over into my thoughts making it kinda hard to reread cause it know it so well </3.

I am sad to say that I haven't checked out BitA yet. When I first saw it while looking for some other fic of yours to read, I didn't really like apocalypse stories much. I might check it out though cause I'm a lot more open to those kinds of stories now. I also remember starting every good intention, but I don't remember why I stopped... A Match Made in France by oooohscar - not a murder mystery per se but it does contain mystery investigations. it's basically furina trying to matchmake neuvillette and wriothesley and she quickly discovers they work well as investigation partners? and so she starts trying to get them to investigate things together, but then shit gets out of hand. it's so fucking good and so fucking funny. like it's pre-reveal furina but i can forgive the mild ooc and- y'know, furina portrayal pre-trauma-reveal (?) just because it's so well written and hilarious (and also she's not portrayed entirely as a brat, i find her more absurdly histrionic than anything). also it's not just furina pov, it switches between all of them. it's incomplete but updating, and absolutely worth a read

The Gambler's Debt by Marsrevale - much more serious than the one above, this one is a murder mystery through and through. the mystery is still only starting, so it probably has a long way to go, but i'm patient so i'll keep up. it's basically neuvillette and clorinde going to investigate a series of murders in the fortress of meropide (this is a sort of modern au so meropide is a gambling house / hotel i think) and wriothesley is the main suspect, but there's also stuff going on between neuvillette and wriothesley bc they knew each other long ago but only wriothesley recognizes him. idk how else to describe it, it's really intriguing so far, i hope the mystery pans out nicely

Hold my hand, never let me go by Jinnmi - also a proper murder mystery, this one is about what is essentially a branch of fontaine's police force for criminal investigation led by wriothesley and the many interconected cases they have to solve. neuvillette is sent as a consultant to keep an eye on them, but ends up basically joining the team as they all try to solve a big case that seems to threaten the country whole and is also somehow connected to wriothesley's past. this one is very good, the murders might be a bit too gruesome for sensitive people? but still, really nice. i love the unsettling vibe of whatever the one behind this all is planning, the suspense is also really good. still updating and i rush to it every time a new chapter comes out, it had me in a chokehold when i first found it.

Y'all. I did something so incredibly just, typical inattentive levels of ridiculous. I accidentally deleted my subfolder with all of my up-to-date mods. Since I wasn't really messing with those, I didn't think to back it up like I did with all my CC.

I really get into it re: mental health and while I'm really trying not to be so hard on myself, this set me back somewhat.

It was when I was doing the standard clear all the caches pre-loading-game fare. I must not have realized it was highlighted. I always empty my recycling bin after I do that, just a force of habit that I can trace back to the days I played Sims 3.

I tried to use Windows Recovery, and my last saved PC backup was right when I got sick, in early January. So I know which mods I have to download, but they all need to be updated.

Not all hope is lost. It would have been slightly worse if it were my CC or a saves folder or something. But this has already taken me like 4 entire days of hyperfocus and I just added like 2 hours of busy work because WHY NOT.

I really don't mind being ADHD most of the time. The diagnosis really helped me figure out a lot of important stuff about myself and gave me tools to be more successful with things I previously struggled with a lot. Unfortunately, I've been without my ADHD meds siiiince late January because of the stimulant/ADHD meds shortage that is somehow still a thing.

And when I do finally get them, I'm probably going to need to wait another month and a half for them to kick in. Apparently, a pharmacy a couple of miles from me is getting some in tomorrow so I can go and get it then so this added to it. Plus since I'm in a stage where I'm sort of just doing the same thing over and over again, it's easy to be in autopilot.

Anyways, I'm totally fine now. Got more of an all-business-no-goofin'-back-to-work vibe going on.

Say Goodbye to Bad Townie Fashion With MCCC/MC Dresser!

One of the biggest game changers for me playing Sims 4 was learning how to use MC Command Center Dresser to auto generate pre-selected outfits on the townie sims.  

There are a bunch of sites out there that go over the process, but I wanted to try and make a basic “one stop shop” of all the things I have learned and do to make my game the best it’s ever been!

First some notes so you aren’t disappointed:

Pre-Seasons Townies and the Seasons Expansion Pack: MC Command Center fixes outfits when an NPC is generated or ages up.  In a new save that means the fix will NOT be applied to the hot and cold weather outfits of NPCs like Don Lothario or The Pancakes, who are already in the new world when it loads.  

To fix this you can create a template save of your own and fix it permanently yourself (highly recommended) or run the dresser cleaner cheat in Step 3 of this article every time you start a new save.  

Career, Situation, and Create-A-Sim Outfits: This process will not alter the outfits generated for careers, situations, or when generating a band new sim in CAS.  

Turning off situation outfits will be covered.

I haven’t found a permanent way to alter career or create-a-sim outfits but career outfits in my experience are mostly OK and when creating a sim, I think most of us are taking the time to change all their clothes anyway.  

Be mindful when you download sims off the gallery, if the user didn’t have Seasons you might end up with some funky hot and cold weather looks!  I always recommend a quick check.

OK – now onto the good stuff!

Step 1: Watch This Video

I learned about this magic from this 7-minute video.  It’s still the best one I have found to cover the basics of what we’re trying to accomplish.

Don’t worry too much right now about adding your own saved outfits.  That’s a nice extra but its not the main way you’ll want to begin this process. More on that below.

This video also covers getting rid of the situation outfits I mentioned above.

Step 2: Create/Download Your MC_Dresser.cfg File

In order for MC Dresser to work it needs saved outfits to pull from.  These comes from your mc_dresser.cfg file.  You don’t have to try and create your own from scratch, other wonderful simmers have already done that for you!  

Below are links to 4 sites that have shared their dresser files. To make it easy I have combined all the basegame items into 1 file for you (all credit to the original creators!).  My all in file includes outfits for all life stages, including infants.

You can add onto your existing dresser file at any time (that’s were the save new outfit option from the video comes in handy).  You can also easily delete a saved outfit you no longer want.

Put the .cfg file in your mods folder, wherever you keep your MC Command Center files.

Step 3: Run the Dresser Cleaner!

This is covered at the end of the video in Step 1.  If you don’t do this, you will not see your new outfits. You can do this at any time, as often as you’d like.

Step 4: Don’t Lose Your .cfg File!

MC Command Center needs updated on a regular basis and the last thing you want to do is accidently toss your precious dresser .cfg file out when updating.  The mc_dresser.cfg file should be copied and added back to your mods folder each time you update the mod.

That’s it!  It may sound like a lot but its actually really easy to do and if you’re like me you’ll thank yourself a thousand times over for taking the time to do it.

Hello! I already use this app and love it, but recommending it in case it could help someone else! It's called Daylio, it's for journaling and mood tracking. It's free to download and use, but there is a premium option, but I've only used the free version and never felt it was lacking. It has a daily streak incentive, mine is 1841, I've been using it since 2019, as well as some other accomplishments for various things. I find it easy to use and you can customize activities to be anything, like it comes with pre-set ones like "relax" and "friends", but you can add and change and delete them, so I also have ones like "Baking" and "excited...?". It's a nice way to look back at memories and a quick and easy place to record them. I write a lot in the notes section of the entry, but you don't have to, you can leave it blank, or add images or voice recordings (but I've never used those so I don't know how they work). And if I miss a day and break my streak, it's very easy to go and put one in for that day so my streak remains because I like it when the number goes up. As someone with memory issues, I find it a comforting habit to make a record of something everyday and these are my thoughts!! Have a great day :) !

Daylio: Mood Logging

This is actually another app I already have the premium version for, lol. I bought it before it became monthly (Really unfortunate that it became monthly)

Rating: Certified, If what you're looking for is a mood tracker and/or diary app

does feature a to-do list daily tasks options, but it's very much a secondary feature

cute, very customizable (especially with premium), easy to use

Celebrates milestones and gives you a lovely visual overview of things.

HOWEVER: While the achievements and the streak counter and the visuals are cute (especially because you can retroactively add things to keep your streak) this app works best if you're inclined to micromanagement and willing to update it at least once a day, and personally that's not something I can keep up too long

Red flags: none, no data shared with third parties, data safety all seems good, and the app itself comes with a pin-lock if you want to be extra cautious with your entries.

Dopamine hits: So the visuals of the emoji calendar are cute and fun and a nice layout, particularly if you've got the premium and have the extra emojis, and the ridiculously high streak counter and achievements are also nice, but personally this app doesn't give me enough from day to day to keep me going. You have to really enjoy the logging process or making the streak number go up to make this work. If you're the kind of person with a really long snapchat streak, this one's for you? otherwise, eh, it can be a bit touchy.

Major Events: Basically pretty milestones for you to record as big letters in your diary

Mood tracking: obviously the main focus, your moods are color coded so you can view sort of how you're doing mental health wise on a pie chart, which can be really handy if you struggle with a mood disorder or want to see how certain activities are correlating with other things in your mental health. Do you always feel like ass when you talk to your boyfriend? this app might be able to help you clock that trend

Visual calendar overview: pictured above

goals: the goals checkoff is actually a must faster process than logging your moods, which is a few screens of selecting one of your preset moods and then the activity you're doing and then maybe adjusting the time. It can be a little finicky.

Premium: 4.99 a month or 35.99 a year (USD)

So i'll admit, I downloaded this app back before they Had important days and goals so I suppose there must be a limit on them for free users? I bought it so that I could add custom moods and track my migraines.

This app is fundamentally not really For to-do stuff. You can use it that way! But where I think i'd find this app has the most usefulness is if you're struggling with short-term mental health trends and you need something to keep track of how you're feeling and where your moods are coming from. As far as ADHD goes this is sometimes useful if you're struggling with RSD, or with sensory issues, or just not clocking which parts of your life are making you overstressed. That said, I could definitely see this working for someone who wants to keep a diary in a short simple easy way. However if you're just looking for text entries, this is also not necessarily the easiest way to do it, since it's focus is mood logging. which it is very good for! it does that job effectively! it's the other stuff it's a little eh about.

Roadmap: This app was updated at the start of this month to add easier searches, and has added a lot in the years since I opened it last, so I definitely believe they're committed to following through and keeping posted. I'm not so sure about the pricetag for premium, but if you're looking for a mood logger and the format works for you, by all means, keep on keepin on.

The bolded section of the verse stook out to me the most. I have a few things that I need to get rid of before I can stand up to the Enemy [satan, temptation]. Personal testimony time: When i got saved, I got rid of A LOT of things I used to like. But I feel like I am still missing something. It could be certain TV shows or youtube channels I watch. I watch appropriate stuff, but I do like crime documentaries and other reality tv shows. I definitely think that now I need to cut out that stuff. But it feels difficult. It's not supposed to be easy. I remember the first thing I cut out was this video game I played for 3 years: The Sims 4. You can make houses and people in the game and make families, but the content of the game was truly evil. There were expansion packs you could buy that glorify witchcraft. There was a whole pack devoted to "occult" creatures; it added vampires, werewolves, mermaids, aliens. Literally all of those are demons hands down. On top of that, there were extremely innapropriate mods devoted to 18+, but there are ways to download that don't require age verification. Last thing to mention, the other themes and propaganda they obviously throw at you is so bad. It sucked after deleting that game, but looking back I don't miss it. Now i need to do some spring-cleaning-in-the-fall and take out any more crumbs that have been left over of my pre-Jesus days. It's not much but, "A little leaven ruins the whole lump." (Galatians 5:9). Would you have guests over while your house has breadcrumbs everywhere? With prayer, I know I can do it, and I hope that I can set an example for someone, somewhere.

i’m not getting paid at all for a total of 40hrs of training (that’s $600 before taxes) . feels slightly illegal to me??? but knowing the state of usa labor laws probably not

they make me show up 35 mins early for every shift for a “daily huddle” and will discipline you if you don’t attend the daily huddle. but you don’t clock in to get paid until the start of your shift. so thats 3 hours of unpaid being at work every week (assuming i get 5 days a week) (which is $45 pre tax. which again feels illegal? but probably isn’t)

they’re allowed to adjust my shift by 1hr before or after at will with only 30min notice?? and it doesn’t count as overtime pay. so like i might find out at 6:30 that i have to come in at 7 instead of 8 for example.

bc my shift will never formally be longer than 6 hours, i will get zero (0) breaks or meals. (you claim you are a disability friendly workplace but i get zero breaks on a 6 hour shift, all of that time being spent in a room which you yourself admit is hot and humid as hell even in the winter.)

no paid leave, personal or medical. if i have to miss 2 days in a row, i have to have a dr’s note. (which i know is very custom for employers but again, bestie! you are as bad as archdiocese of baltimore catholic schools! and also it costs fucking MONEY to go to a dr and get a note so!!!)

this is less a complaint and more so something funny but. they spell out in the employee handbook that you have a wear a bra and be clean shaven if you’re a man 😭 which doesn’t really apply to me since i assume i’ll be wearing a bathing suit under my clothes which is like a quasi bra, but still this is a lame policy lol . ALSO! “care should be taken to ensure breath is fresh.” well i will be wearing a mask 24/7 (i hope you let me do that jesus i just now realized no employees were wearing a mask there so what if it’s not allowed…) so that doesn’t apply to me, but if it did, bestie i have severe chronic dry mouth. the only way my breath stays fresh for more than an hour or so is if you give me frequent breaks to use my anti dry mouth products. andyou already said no breaks so :))

they have a “don’t post shitty stuff bc it reflects poorly on the company” social media rule which makes me ever more grateful that i have no social media other than the hellsite which is not affiliated with my real name

they specify that you can’t bring meds to work?? even in a proper prescription bottle or whatever……bestie i have news for you. some of us take medication during the day. you cannot claim to be a disability friendly employer if you literally ban meds. (i think i’ll be able to get approval bc my manager seems nice but like :/ i was not planning on disclosing any health information to them bc i don’t want them to know i have to take meds at all, let alone day meds! sigh this also is a bit funky due to the no breaks policy). also the no meds rule is allegedly enforced by random locker checks so 🤔. also they call it a locker but we are not allowed to use a lock on it so 😂

i have to inform my manager first if my family will be attending the gym at any time……hey bestie my mom is a member of this gym and comes at irregular times and i’m not allowed to have my phone while on my shift so how am i supposed to know if she’s coming so i can (unnecessarily imo) alert you

they ban any socializing outside of the break room (which i will have no opportunity to use) ofc <3

they will not give you your tips unless they first verify that you have successfully completed your “side work” (which is extra work they give you in addition to the responsibilities associated with your job. you get side work every day btw). again this Feels Illegal bc isn’t withholding tips illegal? this doesn’t apply to me since i won’t receive tips but. anyways those are just some things that stood out to me while going over the handbook. maybe my 🤨 at them is just bc i haven’t had any work experience before, so maybe some of these policies are super common or even more lenient than most. but yeah. i’m excited for the job bc money and structure, but also deathly terrified that i am too disabled to be the type of employee they need me to be. and then there’s one less good reference when i apply to be a mailman 😔 so yeah. feeling funky

Closing Up Shop

My website is no longer going to be available to the public. If you try to access it, you will be directed to a link to request access, but I am not granting access to anyone outside of a small pre-approved group of people. Likewise, my submit box will now also be closed along with the ask box.

I am not completely deleting the whole thing because I put way too much time and effort into it, and I would like to make it public again someday, but for the time being I simply can't do that. I am deeply sorry to those of you who have contributed information and corrections to the website, as well as those of you who were just lurking and minding your own business. You're the people I made this thing for and you're the people I feel the worst about doing this to. When I made this website, I went in full of hope and enthusiasm. I wanted to create something that would be beneficial to this fandom, both old and new fans alike. I wanted to introduce this series to people, and share things that a lot of western fans wouldn't have known about. I had huge plans for this site, with all sorts of information and indexes and just silly side things for fans to enjoy. I spent years of my life building this thing, and it was fun, and I was so excited to share it with people. It was a genuine labor of love for a series that I hold so near and dear to my heart. Unfortunately, since then, my life has not known peace. People have been excessively demanding of me, often asking for things that I had clearly stated somewhere on here or the website that I either already have, or was slated to implement. It was clear that many people were looking at the site, but not really reading it. In the interest of fairness, it is a large website with a lot of pages, but some people weren't even looking at the pages relevant to what they were asking for! For instance, someone off this blog asked me for English translations of the character songs despite me saying both here and on the character song page that they were in the works! And when it wasn't something I already had, it was asking for something that I couldn't feasibly do due to a lack of money and resources, let alone the time to completely reformat things to acquiesce to certain requests. I don't think people fully understood how sporadic updates were usually going to be given just how hard it is to find stuff for this show. The fact that there were so many updates in such a short time was honestly a stroke of luck, not the norm, and I think that may have led people to get a little… eager, to put it mildly. But from where I was standing, it was incredibly frustrating and disheartening. Why was I bothering to put this much time and effort into a website when people weren't going to read it or use it as intended? Why were people demanding more content, but not reading what was already there? It was then that it dawned on me. People didn't really want my website. They just wanted stuff. If I had just put all of my resources onto a single page of downloadable content, I think many people would have been just as happy with that, if not happier. It'd be less trouble to navigate, I'm sure. However, people being demanding is not the only reason that I'm making this decision. There's been a lot of side drama recently that I'm not really comfortable with getting into on this post, and I'm really only even bringing it up to explain that there are a lot of other factors in me choosing to close down. In the end, what it really boils down to is that I feel like both my efforts on this site and myself as a person have been repeatedly disrespected time and time again by this fandom, and I can no longer keep myself "professional" in allowing those same people to keep taking advantage of the resources I've provided. Think of me as being petty or childish if you'd like, but even now, as hurt and as angry as I am, I am being as cordial and respectful as I possibly can. Now again, I don't think everyone who followed this blog or used this website is like this, and I don't want to paint with broad strokes. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of those who have helped me improve the site, and you lurkers out there. You did nothing wrong, and I hope that someday, we can try this again in a… less hostile environment, to put it nicely. But for now, as painful as it is to do this, I am washing my hands of this.

Linux Life Episode 84

Hello everybody and welcome back to Linux Life I admit its been a little while since I made an entry which was informing you of the death of Mangelwurzel and entry of the new Dell Inspiron 3525 I am currently using to type this article on.

Reason its been so long was I actually went back to Windows (stop spitting at back please it’s not pretty) because I wanted to play Blur and a few other games. Well I did and in that time I also tried several ways to have a Linux installation in some form of VM.

So first I used Virtualbox which is a Type 2 Hypervisor basically what that means is everything is emulated in its own little sandbox and all the hardware is virtual. I did manage to get Ubuntu Studio running but to say it was rough would be an understatement.

Virtualbox does not like KDE to say the least and it was painful to run. Also the networking was slow. Sure I could have used normal Ubuntu to see if GNOME was faster but for all I have tried it many times I really don’t like GNOME. Everything needs extensions and the interface is horrible.

Finding apps requires typing in a search because of that stupid Mac Launchpad icon design. I really detest it. I’m sure if you were using a touchscreen then it makes sense but most laptops definitely are not.

Anyway after far too many hours wasted with that I moved on to try Hyper V which is a Type 1 Hypervisor which allows much more connection to base metal components... it lets you use your actual graphics card, the hard drive can be accessed better and you have access to USB and the likes which makes it much better.

Now at the time I was using Windows 11 Home as that’s what came pre-installed on the Dell. So I had to download Hyper V as it wasn’t there by default. So first I try Ubuntu as Canonical have an agreement with Microsoft due to WSL.

Sure enough it installed and was pretty fluid but it had no sound. There was an enhanced mode which refused to work as to do so it needed RDS (Remote Desktop Support) which also prevented sound from working (Huh ?).

To get RDS you need Windows 11 Pro which Microsoft informed me if I wanted a key would be £119. Hmmm not happy obliterated Ubuntu VM. Went web-side got a Windows 11 Pro for £1.67 as it was OEM key. They key would have been £3.35 but I found a 50% off code.

After a bit of fiddling I got Windows 11 Home to go to Pro using a key to switch it then once it did that registered the new OEM key and it worked and guess what I have access to Remote Desktop Services.

So as I felt that Hyper V could cope I now tried installing EndeavourOS which installed without a single hitch. I admit the network was slow but a million times quicker than Virtualbox.

It had no issues with KDE whatsoever but once again no sound. I installed several Hyper V tools and things from the AUR. Even changed out pipewire back to pulseaudio but no matter what I did, sod all worked. RDS couldn’t see the VM even including doing the various Powershell tips.

Bugger all, now sure I could have run Endeavour without sound but I had come this far damn it. OK deleted VM. OK I now have Win 11 Pro so lets try the Ubuntu stuff again.

OK now enhanced mode shows a dialogue and when I log in screen goes black and bugger all happens. Click off enhanced mode and Ubuntu is working. Enhanced mode just black. Setup Ubuntu. reboot now enhanced mode doesn’t come up and even the VM crashes now.

This wasted too many hours and days of messing around. I even got the RDS side running but when I tried to Remotely Access using RDS it crashed. What a complete waste of bloody time.

I even tried running a Ubuntu Studio VM using VMWare Player 17. It didn’t work.

I doing think about setting up a KVM version of QEMU to run a Linux installation but guess what if you want sound on QEMU you need to get a specific version called the Screamer and it won’t let you use KVM setup meaning it wouldn’t allow you to install the Linux.

By this point I just gave up I honestly don’t care what type of Hypervisor it is I am obviously too thick to get things running as they should and I gave up.

I almost tried Proxmox and XCP-NG but upon seeing what they entailed just gave up.

After all that I thought I would leave alone and just use Windows. Then everyone started informing my Facebook had been cloned, well lets just say that didn’t happen when I had Linux.

The internet under Windows just ran slower than when I had Linux. Watching YouTube stalled regularly, downloads failed due to time out and my frustration levels were getting to breaking point.

I tried to dual boot Linux as I found out how to shrink the partition in Windows and use it for Linux installation. So tried EndeavourOS but because of the Secure boot it wouldn’t let the system install.

However for some reason Fedora will install if Secure boot is still on. So I installed Fedora Beta 40 because I wanted to try the new KDE Plasma 6. Now I know it’s beta software so not to have many expectations but most of the software I use was not in the store nor could I find the appropriate dnf installer.

However Fedora now would boot but my Windows 11 wouldn’t the partition was there but it didn’t add it to the menu so now I could load Fedora but Windows wouldn’t load.

Tried OS Prober, Grub Customizer, no matter what I did could not get the Windows 11 partition to boot or get it in the options

Pissed off now I finally turned off Secure boot. Wiped the whole hard drive and installed EndeavourOS Galileo Neo (the latest version) and set up the Dell with KDE.

It now is running on KDE 6 Plasma 6.0.2 running Wayland. It is running seamlessly, the internet is quicker. No issues with YouTube. Updating fine. When I tried KDE 5 Plasma Wayland, Steam and several other programs stopped working.

Well Steam is working fine using XWayland (a Wayland to X11 bridge) and there is a version of Cairo Dock that works with Wayland (it is experimental but so far has not died on me).

So all is right with the world in that respect. Only issue is screen capture isn’t great in Wayland but someone is working on it. OBS and other video capture work fine but screen capture programs such Flameshot, Shutter and other need work.

Well Wayland is slowly being adapted so in time I am sure these things will be fixed over the next few months as more and more main distros seem to be moving to Wayland.

It works well enough and to be honest it's even faster for program launch it seems than the original X11 which is now over twenty years old.

I am yet to try the Steam Proton games such as Path of Exile but who knows maybe next time we speak I may have done so.

So with all that madness abound I bid you farewell for this episode.

I think if I was like to do a full on review of social medias that I have used, which are gonna just be going off my experience and probably in order of where I started and such, it would go like this

Instagram: 3/10 gave me body image issues on such a horrid scale in all honesty, can become horrid at times because…well it’s meta owned now but it still has the same issues of being instagram and trying to grasp for a sense of identity other then “here is people who look better then you by societies stupid standards

Twitter; pre-Elon:5/10 () post-Elon:2/10 oh boy, this app is a wild ride and a spiral, and a reason why I try my best to keep my following list on apps like that to only be triple digits at most, because tbh, fandom spaces on old twitter here? You can go down a rabbit hole of wild things and horrible situations if done incorrectly and if you follow the wrong people, drama can sadly become your only thing on the stupid timeline. Then Elon came in, change after change to try to make the platform monetizable and profitable to make himself look good and also boost himself up after buying twitter at such a high price and shooting its price multiple times with stupid changes, it feels like a already shoddy ship just got a captain that is now doing things they will think help, but only sink the ship further by shooting it with cannon balls.

Facebook:0/10 horrid old style of invasive internet connection, deleted my account on there and the only reason I would be on there in any sense would be to do a job as a social media account person for someone, you would have to pay me to endure the old design, and also having your family constantly being shoved in your face creepily when some you only see at reunions is kinda the worst, also just feels not nice

Reddit: 4/10 personally only really used it for the niche question here or there or communities I already can interact with here or elsewhere, but what “Reddit refugee’s” are saying is basically the vibe of the place was despite the most odd places I visited didn’t usually fit reddits own vibe that were on there,always on guard like a micro-dose of fight/flight/freeze are being directly beamed into you, maybe it was cus of all the fact checking and fear an opinion on some obscure thing was gonna autocorrected by actual factors, and yeah the fear of being made fun of was heightened while on the platform, especially when in subreddits where I shared my creativity

Newgrounds: 8/10 honestly a vibe, the rating system is cool, the amount of differing type of stuff you can post is cool, the nice touch of being able to age rate your own content and being able to choose what kinda content you see is a lovely experience, honestly only small niche issues like that I wish I could download it as an app at times so it would be more readily available on desktop/phone but I don’t mind doing a few more button presses to get to a great site

Tumblr: 9/10 I may be semi-new to this place but I am very thankful for it existing the only problem with tumblr from my experience…has been tumblr higher-ups trying to add-on things other applications have, which detracts from the reason people come here, BECAUSE it’s old school, BECAUSE it is as bloggy and as long text form as we wish, I don’t like the lives barley anyone who actually uses tumblr actually uses those at all (and from a poll I saw, literally no on tumblr does) and honestly, that speaks volumes, this site is a cockroach because the people on the platform itself just…don’t use wtf they don’t wanna use, which is usually new features that go against what the platform is.

Okay, so @simgerale​ asked how I made a pic look “painted”, without using the Oil Paint Filter.  This tutorial is gonna cover how I made the pic above, as well as some bonus stuff.  If you don’t wanna learn how to do it yourself, there’s a Photoshop Action download at the end of the post, which has (almost) all the steps I use to make a painted pic!  

Tutorial under the cut, since this is gonna get long!

Step 1:

Find your pic!  I’m gonna be using this one of Fallon’s mother, Rosalynn when she was Queen.  I used reshade for this pic, specifically @/growfruite’s all these sudered things preset. (click on the name for a link)  BUT you can do this on an unedited pic too!

Step 2 (optional):

Do your pre-editing!  I ran the Clean and Sharp action from THIS set by @/squea, and the the Beauty Queen: Smooth Filter 50% from THIS set by @/intravertt.  After that, I ran the lil dramatic tbh action from THIS set by @/wooldawn.  All fo that is my standard editing for just about every pic, so I ran these for consistency’s sake, but skip this step, or replace with your favorite actions.

NOTE: Clean and Sharp requires Topaz Clean to work.

After that additional editing, the image looks like this:

Now the real fun starts!

Step 3:

Now it’s time to actually start making the image look painted!  Go to Layer > Flatten Image if your image isn’t already flat.  Then right click on the layer (should be the only one you have!!) and select Duplicate Layer. Just hit Okay.  

Right click on the duplicated layer (should be named “Background copy”) and select Convert to Smart Object. This is VERY important, because otherwise the filters won’t work correctly!!  

Your layers tab should now look like this:

Note: I recommend keeping the Background layer locked for the whole time.  That way you don’t accidentally edit it.

Step 4:

With the top layer selected, go to Filter > Filter Gallery. A window should pop up. If there are any filters applied already, delete all but one of them.  (this should not be the case, unless you have used this window before)

Select Paint Daubs under the “Artistic” category.  Set your settings to this:

(Brush Size: 2, Sharpness 0)

Then hit Okay.  Your image should now look a little softer, kind of smoothed out.  

Here’s what mine looks like!

Step 5:

Now is where stuff gets a little more complicated.  You’re going to duplicate the current layer (Background copy) so that you have “Background copy 2″.  (You can also duplicate the Background layer, as long as you set it to Smart Object.)

Double click on the words “Filter Gallery” that should be under the name of the top layer (Background copy 2).

This will reopen the Filter Gallery.  If you duplicated the one we had already put a filter on, it should bring you right to the Paint Daubs filter.  If not, click on Paint Daubs again.

Set the Brush Size to 6 and sharpness to 0.

Your image is going to look really weird in the preview, super blurry and smooth, but that’s okay, it’s not going to stay that way!!

At the bottom right of the Filter Gallery, there’s a button with a “+” on it.

Click that button.  It will automatically duplicate the effect you already have, making things even worse, but don’t worry!! Either drag the new Paint Daubs layer to the bottom, or select the bottom one.

Now, got to Dry Brush, which is also under the Artistic category.

Set Brush Size to 1, Brush Detail to 10, and Texture to 1.  

Now press Okay.

Your image is going to look SUPER whacky, but that’s okay!! Here’s what mine looks like right now:

Step 6:

Now it’s time to make things look better! With that top layer selected (Background copy 2), go to Filter > Stylize > Find Edges. There’s no settings with this one, it just does it’s thing.

Your image is going to look even weirder now, but don’t worry, we’ll fix it!!

Step 7:

I’ve been saying this whole time that we’re gonna fix the whacky-ness, and now it’s actually time to do it!!!

While selected on the top layer (Background copy 2), change the Blending Mode to Multiply, and set the Opacity to 20%.  Now things should look better.

This is what my image looks like now:

As you can (hopefully) see on your own image, it now looks like the sim has been painted!!

Yay, we’re almost done!!

Step 8: From here on out is OPTIONAL, but I recommend it for a nice touch of detail/realism.

Find an image of watercolor paper.  Here’s a bunch on Unsplash! (A lifesaver!! All pics on Unsplash are 100% for you to do as you wish with them, no charge.  But consider dropping some credit to the person who took the pic.)

I’m gonna use THIS one by Olga Thelavart.

Open that image in PS, hit Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C to copy the image.  (If you’re on a Mac, it’s Command + A and Command + C)

Then go back to you image and hit Ctrl + V to paste it.   (Note: the good thing about Unsplash images is that they are so HQ that you won’t even need to resize the image, if you’re using a standard size screenshot.)

The paper texture should be labled as Layer 1 in your layers tab.  If it’s not already, drag it to the top of the Layers tab.

Now, change the blending mode to Multiply.  

Your image should have some additional texture, like it was ACTUALLY painted on paper.

And that’s it!! You’ve successfully made a “painted” portrait!! You can crop and adjust it however you’d like after this, but this is the basics. I usually crop my painted portraits to 4:5 if everything fits, but you can crop however you’d like!

Like I said, I crop to 4:5, resize to 720 pixels wide, and then run my Blurry Edges action (which is based off of @/warmsol’s action, which I could never get to work for me.)

Gather round, children, for the legend of Grimwood Abbey

(that’s the tiny pre-MCC I mentioned the other day. I only came up with this concept, oh, over a year ago. Dropped it to play a nice easy modern Megahood. I don’t have much wherewithal.)

...so I have spent two days on the weekend so far just working on getting my CC sorted out so I can consider starting this. Yesterday the big issues were a. realizing it was super inefficient to delete stuff in-game one by one even though it’s nice to be able to see it, and becoming paralyzed with indecision about whether to take the time to hunt down unidentified files by hand, or continue spending time deleting dozens and dozens of recoiled by hand… eventually I did a little of both, but boy I gotta use some kind of tooltip renamed now huh… b. I am not good at Delphy’s Download Organizer. I don’t understand it. Why is there no “how to use” documentation. So then I set it to scan for orphans or duplicates, stare hopelessly at the results unable to figure out what is the best course of action, and then quietly quit it to yet again… move files around manually. Don’t get me wrong, I was able to use it to shove several file types into correct folders, but my real issue would be so easily solved if there was a thoroughly explained duplicate scanner that I was able to trust. Ugh, I probably should have started by moving all the files to one big folder and sorting them from there but WHATEVER.

Because, you see, like many simmers, I have been collecting my cc since roughly 2004. I legit cannot remember if I have lost the whole thing and had to start over, but this collection can certainly be traced back to my first laptop that could run the Sims 2. For the longest time, I merely collected a big pile of everything shiny and cool that caught my eye, resulting in a big mixed-up mess combining modern and medieval fantasy and sci-fi and random fandoms and steampunk and everything I ever enjoyed. That… was not sustainable. I tried keeping individual folders within Downloads for specific genres, with the idea that I could swap them in and out for different hoods. Alas, that was too time-consuming for my taste, and I ended up with the same basic downloads folder but very lightly sort of organized but not really.

Sometime within the last ten years, I started trying to cultivate different downloads folders of broad genre categories, all neatly saved on a big flash drive. That’s all well and good, but copying and backing up that shit took away precious hours I could be using to play. Not only that, but it was very rough trying to separate my downloads folder properly—some stuff worked well for multiple genres! So I ended up making copies of the whole downloads folder to build these alternates, which I could then whittle down to only the stuff I actually wanted in there. This medieval alternate downloads folder therefore also contained the folder I’d labeled Medieval CC in my last attempt at organizing, and just to be sure I copied everything over and back repeatedly. And you know how it goes—every time I got excited about the idea of an MCC, I had to go out and download anything new or shiny. And oh yeah, had to stock up on defaults because now I could be using a solely medieval downloads folder! And this new CC would get plonked right into the DL folder, nary a care for organization because I needed to play before I lost interest!

So I had at least two, possibly three copies of all the same content in a collection of medieval CC that’s been building for, let’s call it 15 years more or less. I can’t trust the download organizer—like sir are you showing me all of them? do I throw all these out or leave one behind?—and doing it by hand is extremely tedious, carefully removing all txt and preview files to improve my load time. And actually playing a year-old story concept is delayed yet again.

I’ve got a Megahood set up that I can start converting to medieval whenever I get my act together, and I still that that sounds like fun but also waaaay too big a project for me (latest issue: wait if the capulets and montagues are traditionally alike in dignity is it wrong to make the Capps gentry and the montys merchants? But if I make them both gentry it’ll be an entire damn subhood of nothing but gentry!). I also have the same old MCC hood I started building a year ago, restarting after years of having the concept ready (this one is Algary and it is the one i was building a castle for; it has a few interesting rolled families to start with such as the gentry family having no sim older than teen and me choosing to set that up as the direct heir and some cousins, and a peasant family that involved two elderly ladies who were in love and joined households after their obligatory husbands died, pooling resources to care for their families, but one of them was gonna feel obliged to head off to the church and repent while the other cared for the kids and became a midwife). And then there’s the new guy, Grimwood Abbey, whose concept is only a year old but I sure hope I can follow through on it because it is quite small. Even then I can’t decide yet whether to start with one household (everybody living together for protection!), two households (the church vs the knights), or several households (each knight beginning in their own household with their squire). The latter would make it easier for each knight to earn their own money and compete to purchase gentry approval from the church… but idk.

Anyway. After all that I am really hoping I am about ready to actually play a bit. Even just making some sims and buildings. Today I need to progress further in weeding out CC, try to find a way I can do that more efficiently, maybe find some nice standardized set of makeup and default eyes and skin to use rather than the haphazard collections I barely touch (I prefer to lean toward maxis match over Shiny Realistic skins where everyone has auto makeup, but I’m sure there is something nice out there that suits my needs), and I unfortunately saw some nice medieval clothes I don’t have while downloading a whole fresh set of Sun&Moon Star Factory stuffs (which, I had multiple copies of! Didn’t know what was updated and what was outdated or what! So I threw out everything I had and re-downloaded the entire collection, which may have been a bit drastic but it definitely worked. Also, why is there no complete user guide for this. A “how to get started” or something. Whatever.), so I also gotta download that. Then maybe I can make a test sim to make sure defaults and stuff work okay, and then maybe download some medieval lots to speed up the building process? And then I can play one of my various hood concepts finally actually? Maybe?

TLDR: I am getting frustrated because I have so many downloads, many of them duplicates within folder within the main folder, that it’s taking me all weekend just to straighten them out (and even then I might not be able to finish, despite it being a 3 day weekend where I live). I swear, it would be faster just to throw it all away and start over, except I can’t do that because I am clearly a CC hoarder and I might need a piece of CC that can no longer be downloaded.

...thus goes the preliminary legend of Grimwood Abbey and the horror story of Getting It Set Up. Someday, someday...
