Dc x Dp Prompt #10: Inter-Dimensional Bake-Off
Alfred was checking the mail the manor had received that day when he found it. In between bills, fan mail, and company missives was a regal purple envelope addressed to one Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth. Intrigued, Alfred set aside the rest of the mail and sat to open the letter.
Inside was a high quality cardstock invitation of a metallic silver color decorated with luxurious midnight green script. It declared on the front:
“You Are Cordially Invited”
Alfred raised an eyebrow and flipped open card.

The King's last gift
Danny was tired, tired of being responsible for protecting the world. At first it was just Amity but the ghosts began to explore more and the halfa was exhausted. He was the only hero available and it was taking its toll.
He knew he couldn't go on like this, let alone with his coronation around the corner but he didn't know what else to do. He knew he couldn't interfere with the world after the crown was on his head. The world would fear him (maybe even more than now) and protecting them with so much power in hand could do more harm than good, but if he didn't protect them, who would?
His core ached at the thought of all those people begging for a hero who wouldn't come, so Danny took desperate measures, and cheated a little.
He visited Desiree; she watched him with a raised eyebrow, curious. And Danny did what he forbade long ago, he wished. He wished for the future and for humanity itself, he uttered the words he had wanted to say ever since he knew he would not be able to visit earth for a long time.
"I wish for the world to be safe even when I no longer live in it, I wish for there to be someone who can protect it, even if it's just a human."
Desiree blinked in surprise not expecting the King who had "forbidden" her to do such a thing. She smiled and nodded. Her power grew exponentially but neither she nor Danny said anything about it. The halfa would not undo that wish after all.
In New Jersey, Thomas and Martha Wayne were celebrating the birth of their son. Neither of them noticed the spark of magic entering the baby, nor the boy's unusually blue eyes. Bruce Wayne, the Ghost King's latest gift to mankind, had been born.
And years later, when the Justice League was formed and everyone was talking to each other, John Constantine looked at the dark knight curiously, wondering if he was aware that he was death's favorite.

How Can You Resist?
To say the library was extensive would be a severe understatement. The whole room seemed to expand as Kaldur wandered throughout the stacks. There was only one other visitor to the library who sat at one of the tables perusing a rather large tome. He was a rather large ghost who appeared to be male and wore a long purple cloak. Eventually Kaldur came across a section of Atlantean text, much to his surprise, many of which appeared to be romantic poetry and love stories. Kaldur came across one of his favorite novels and sat down to read, not noticing when the only other occupant stopped paying attention to his book and began watching him instead.
But then again can people so rarely tell when he’s watching.
————————
Three hours, Danny had been stuck in this meeting for three hours. Why the Second Brother felt the need to go on a tangent of proper wing care, Danny’s not sure, but it had been going on long enough. Once the Second Brother paused Danny jumped in before he could continue.
“I am incredibly grateful that you took the time to inform me of such important traditions, however it seems we have run over our allotted meeting time and I must attend to some urgent duties.” Both Spirits rose from their seats and grasped arms. “It was an honor to meet such an accomplished warrior Lord Second, may your wings never falter”
The large winged man replied “And may the wind carry you far. Thank you for this opportunity, it was a pleasure speaking with you.” He hesitated for a moment before letting go of Danny’s hand. With those parting words Danny exited the room and is greeted by the Fright Knight.
“My liege” he greeted with a slight bow “how did it go?” He asked eagerly.
Danny gave a short chuckle “It went well, he seemed to be preening throughout the meeting with how much he boasted about his realm. That’s 2 out of the Twelve done. I need to see if there’s anything I can to speed these along, I made a promise to Kaldur and I intend to keep it.” He grinned at Fright Knight “Speaking of meetings, how did your meeting with the Knights of Mattingly, any suitable knights? How IS Dora doing? Did you ask her?” Danny raised his eyebrow.
Fright Knight gave a slight echoing cough “There are a few promising candidates that stood out, though none who stood a chance against my prized pupil. Truly your daughter takes after you, my King, as she quickly sent them running for their shields.” Danny sent a proud smile toward Fright Knight.
“Well she’s had a great teacher, we’ll have to set up a date for a proper sparring session. We haven’t really been able to spar together since the coronation.” Danny smirked “Now stop using Elle to dodge the question, how did it go?”
If it was possible for the knight to blush he would make a tomato jealous, instead his flames flared up as he responded “Queen Dorthea has granted me the honor of being her escort to the treaty celebration.”
“Congratulations Fright! Now that you have a date to the ball I gotta ask when was the last time you went to a ball to actually dance?” Danny asked as he walked only to stop as he realized he lost his companion. He looked at Fright Knight and carefully asked “You do know she’s gonna want to dance with her right?” Never before had Danny seen the grand knight look so nervous. “Don’t worry big guy there are still 10 more meetings to go before the Ball, you’ll have time to practice.” He said with a laugh. The two ghosts continued down the hall, seemingly unaware of the shadows that stalked them, waiting to strike.
———————
Kaldur was just finishing his book when the other occupant of the library approached him.
“A lovely story, if a bit tragic” Kaldur looked up in surprise as he did not notice the stranger approach.
With a cautious smile Kaldur responded “Perhaps, but it is one of my favorites.” The other man stands there for a moment staring at Kaldur as if trying to figure out a particularly interesting puzzle.
“How are you finding Phantom’s Keep? I trust you are making a speedy recovery.”
“Between Frostbite and Danny, I should be fully recovered before I return to my team. It’s interesting so far, I have not been able to explore much yet but it’s been interesting so far.” Kaldur sighs “In truth I find it difficult to relax, not knowing when I will be returning and being in an unfamiliar environment.”
The stranger nods “Completely understandable, I believe Danny sometime forget how the zone affects others. After all, the Infinite Realms were not meant for the living, though none shall be turned away.” He pauses “What do you intend to do with your newfound knowledge of the Realms Kaldur’ahm?” Kaldur looks at the stranger confused and suspicious, he grins in response. “The Realms are an extremely difficult place to reach… while alive, and many people would positively kill for the chance to learn even a fraction of what you have seen. In fact a few have killed for that knowledge, not that it helped them any.”
Kaldur is getting ready to answer when the stranger interrupt him. “No need to answer now. When the time comes you’ll know your answer, besides I think your time would much be better spent rushing to the aid of our dear King.”
“What do you mean?!” Kaldur demands
“We’ll you see, at this very moment Danny is being viciously attacked by a group of assassins. If you hurry you should be able to assist him.” The stranger says with a smirk.
“Where is he?!” The smiling stranger just floats away and Kaldur immediately gives chase until he comes across an empty courtyard, the stranger gone. He doesn’t have to wait long before a massive form comes barreling through the the castle doors before falling to the ground.
“Oh woe is me! I have been beset upon by assassins! Thieves in the night!” He bellowed he turned very dramatically throwing an arm over his eyes falling to his knees. A group of flying children surround him
“Avast ye matey! Surrender the princess and we shall spare your life!” Cried the child dressed as a pirate
The giant paused in his dramatics uncovering his face to reveal Danny himself as he replied “Sorry Youngblood, Elle’s not here today.” He then struck a dramatic pose pointing at the pirate “You shall never take the princess from these lands! I will forfeit my life before I forfeit my daughter!”
The pirate seemed to pause for a moment. “Your life shall be spared this day, but in exchange you must surrender to us your cookies instead!”
Danny nodded and then called out “Very well Captain Youngblood. Garçon bring me the finest cookies in all the land!” Kaldur couldn’t take it any longer as he let out a laugh. The pirate vanished from his sight and the rest of the children fled to hide behind Danny. Danny looked sharply until he saw Kaldur, then he turned towards the children. “Hey, hey calm down, it’s okay. This is just my friend Kaldur he’s not gonna hurt you I promise. Would you like to meet him?” He asked softly.
Danny turned around and slowly made his way toward Kaldur, shrinking to normal size as he walks towards him. A little ghost girl peaking out from behind his cape. Kaldur crouched down to greet her. “Hello, my name is Kaldur, what’s your name?”
“Mama says I’m not supposed to tell my name to strangers…” Danny then turns to the girl
“That is exactly correct! So what do we say when people ask for your name?” He asked with a wide grin. The little girl jumped into the air causing Kaldur to look up.
“I am the mighty Box Lunch fear me and meet your boxed lunch doom!!!” Kaldur looks surprised while Danny fell to the ground laughing. When he finally got a hold himself he turned to Kaldur
“Would you like to join us we were about to go raid the kitchens for cookies? I have a little time before the next meeting.” Kaldur stood and looked at Danny with a raised brow.
“Don’t you think it’s a little early for dessert?” He teased
Danny then picked up one of the children and held him in front of Kaldur “Look at him! He’s practically skin and bones we need to fatten them up and if I have to eat cookies before dinner, well that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.” He said solemnly. Danny grinned and whispered something into the child’s ear. The young ghost then looked at Kaldur with what had to be the biggest pair off puppy dog eyes he had ever seen. “C‘Mon how could you resist these eyes?” Kaldur looked Danny right in the eyes for a moment. Danny gave a slight gulp.
“I don’t think I can.” He held out his hands for Danny to pass him the child. “Shall we go get some cookies before you all wither away?” The children cheered and jumped on Kaldur clinging to his arms. “Lead the way your majesty.” Danny’s face was ablaze as he turned around sharply and coughed.
“Alright everyone, FORWARD MARCH!! To the kitchens!” They all disappeared into the castle laughing.
—————
From the roof of the castle Clockwork watches the interaction.
“Every moment he is here, a new branch is formed in the timeline. I can’t wait to see what happens next” he stated before taking a bite of a rather chewy glowing cookie.
In the distance the sound of drums is heard.

Records of his time before death
Ectoberhaunt 2022, Side Order. Prompt: Past
Summary: There are many tales about King Phantom's exploits and adventures throughout the ages, however very little is known about his time before he died and became a halfa.
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o
There are many tales about how King Phantom, the half ghost half human that walked the tight line between life and death, the ruler of the Infinite Realms, the champion of the ancients and the protector of the balance came to become the leader of a whole dimension. His exploits against his most famous enemies and members of his rogue gallery, and tales about what came after his coronation, but almost no one knows what he was like before all of that, before he became a king, before he became a halfa. Only a select few knew this, and they most likely would share the story if only they found someone interested in them.
There’s for example the story of his first victory in a science fair thanks to his accurate model of the solar system, a day of extreme happiness for the by then 8 years old child, who instantly went to show his blue ribbon once his parents went to get him from school, and they all ended up in the Nasty Burger celebrating the first achievement related to astronomy that one Danny Fenton has gotten. That day was said to be one of the happiest in his life, but not the only one that has managed to gain that moniker.
Another of the happiest days of his life was the day that he managed to befriend one Sam Manson, who amongst the ghosts of the realm might be better known as “The Rebellious Princess of Mattingly” and “The One Favored by Undergrowth”. Not much can be told about that day since it was when both King Phantom and his only other friend back then Pharaoh Tucker were quite young, however one of the details that managed to survive the passage of time was the fact that they met after Pharaoh Tucker blamed a third party over ruining something from Lady Sam, and King Phantom had to interfere to allow his friend to come up with said lie.
This doesn’t mean that his life was full of happy memories however, we all know about the many tales of how the human parents of King Phantom caused so much unrest and sadness during the christmas season, however another thing that is often forgotten by the ghosts that reside in this realm, is that King Phantom used to be on the lowest slab of the food chain in the social hierarchy of the human realm thanks to his parents obsession with ghosts. I know this might sound like blasphemy to some of you, but we have to remember that we all used to be human (for those that were born from dead humans), and infants can be incredibly cruel when they propose to do cruelty.
One of the exploits of King Phantom he did when he was 12 years old, managing to save a dog that was trapped under a fence and taking it to a veterinarian, and staying with said dog until it was eventually time to head back home, talking with the animal about all the stars that could be seen in the night sky that day. It is believed that from this event the originally thought protection obsession that is theorized by many for King Phantom to have came from.
Many things have carried on from his past as well that keep on persisting today, the most recognizable one of King Phantom’s repertoire is his trusted and well used Fenton Thermos, something that many inhabitants of the Infinite Realms are intimately familiar with, however some of the other items he carries with himself or leaves in the open in his keep are one particularly battered and old model of the Mars Rover Opportunity, a painting of an astronaut floating in space with the sun behind them and a single photograph of his whole human family and friends; objects which the king often uses to reminisce of his own human life before he became part of an endangered species began.
Not much left is known about the king’s past, such as his favorite meal back then, how he interacted with the human educational system, how he dealt with any trouble coming his way, or how his family was with him; however context clues can let us infer that he had a loving family that cared deeply about him even if they weren’t the best at showing it nor the most responsible people, also that he has a serious distrust of any authority figure that tries to put themselves above his own figure due to the continual failure of those that were responsible of him when he was still powerless to choose for himself what he wanted to be, thus pushing him into becoming the best authority he could ever be, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone knows that King Phantom just doesn’t know when to quit.
There are many things in King Phantom’s past that affect how he became the ruler he is today, many of them being lost to history due to them happening while he was still a full human and ghosts back then still having no reliable gateway to the living realm, but enough items and tales were left behind to paint an approximate picture of what it was like for King Phantom to live among the humans back then, and how his experiences shaped him into the benevolent ruler that he is today.

For the WIP folder ask game, what's the Mafia AU?
thanks for the ask @scoobybuddie
So for reference, I’d previously used Danny Pino for Reyes Vidal personal headcanon pictures for writing in Mass Effect Andromeda fics. Danny Pino is mostly known for playing cops—ie Nick Amaro in SVU—and more recently Miguel Galindo in Mayans MC.
Tumblr media
So cop Nick (above) vs Miguel (below)—note I really need to think of other names for Reyes’ uncles but you can see where I’m coming from by leaving them unchanged.
Tumblr media
If I ever finish this fic, it’s going to be a messy time jump mess back and forth (because I’ve wanted to try that but not sure I can pull it off). I want it to be slightly told retrospectively and then also in medias res.
So, a messy draft emerges that’s half plot notes and half written scene. Cut for length here.
Scott is pulled to the local cop dive bar by his soon-to-be-former partner xxx.  He is plied with alcohol by many people from his precinct who’ve come to fete the new detective—Scott is getting his gold shield the next day and today was his last day on patrol. Scott is known some-what derogatorily (and he hates it) as the prince of organized crime—his father is the head of the organized crime unit and runs an elite task force. Scott has determined that he’s going to always make his own way and is obsessed with not being promoted based on nepotism.
While Scott has been focused on his career, he hasn’t always been able to make close connections with his co-workers because of his family. But he’s excited to have earned his gold shield after solving a homicide. Somehow, he’s managed to get attached to one of the homicide squads by pure chance.
Towards the end of the night, he’s bought a drink by a guy that can’t be a cop. He’s wearing too expensive of cologne and gives Scott the up and down look that screams interested.  The whiskey is also much more expensive than all the other drinks he’s been downing all night. The smooth purr of the man’s voice and way that he talks to Scott and he’s a goner. They spend hours talking—much after most of Scott’s coworkers have left and they close out the bar at 2am.
Taking a chance, Scott asks Reyes to walk him home and then invites him in for a nightcap. One thing leads to another and Scott ends up curled around Reyes who seems stunned by Scott’s trust in him.
The next morning, Scott wakes to his alarm, warm and still wrapped in Reyes who is dead to the world. Scott reluctantly wakes Reyes, embarrassed that they just got in some heavy making out the night before before falling asleep in his bed. Reyes is adorably mussed but asks what Scott’s plans are for the night.
Scott tells him that he has a family dinner to go to but does give Reyes his cell before seeing Reyes out the door.
Cue frantic getting ready and in uniform for getting his detective’s shield only to be told to hurry up and wait when he gets to the ceremony.  It’s a group ceremony and he’s getting his shield with about ten other people—all of which are older than him and with more experience.
There is an awkward moment during the ceremony when his father gives him his gold shield—Scott hadn’t know that his father was going to do that. He’s somewhat choked up about it but his dad ruins the moment after the ceremony when asking him what took so long. Scott is emotionally crushed at that comment but puts up a good front. Sara who also took the day off to celebrate her twin’s accomplishment plays peacekeeper.  There is an awkward family late lunch in a fancy restaurant that Scott’s always wanted to try but he barely touches his food—unable to taste anything.
Scott’s new squad in homicide:
Partner and Sargent: Cora Harper
Lieutenant. Drack Nakmor
Other detectives: Liam and Vetra
Coroner: Lexi T’Perro
CSI tech: Suvi Anwar
Electronics assistance/mechanic: Gil Brodie
Reyes Vidal is the new blood that is running the show for his uncle.
Reyes’s family/leadership structure:
Uncle Miguel is the boss—Known as El Padrino.
Uncle Nick—Miguel’s twin. Not raised with Miguel. Became a police officer and works in the same city as Scott. Disavows all involvement with the family business but still tries to look out for Reyes. Is a homicide detective but for a smaller precinct. Competent at his job but has never been really promoted due to his family associations which are known by the police powers that be.
Bain Massani—cartel associate. Was assigned to look out for Reyes. Is an enforcer for the cartel. Has his own code of honor and follows it. Is amused by Scott and calls him Reyes’ little duck.
Scene (warning for first draft)
Scott hadn’t stopped shaking—but he wished he could.
The nurse with the kind smile had pushed him back into one of the hard plastic chairs that lined the waiting room and pressed a styrofoam cup of burnt, acidic coffee into his hands, encouraging him to drink it and settle. The two sips he’d managed to suck down had eaten at his throat, burning as the bitter coffee did little to soothe him. She’d said she’d be back when she had news or if the doctor was needing to speak to him before escaping to the nurses station at the far corner.
He just couldn’t stop the tremble in his hands that still had dried blood on them, under his nails and across the finger pads making them feel gritty with the dark brick red color fading into brown and making each crease n the skin stand starkly out.
The waiting lounge was mostly deserted at this time of night, a housekeeper had even had him lift his legs so she could vacuum under them before working her way down the row of chairs covered in fabric that nobody in their right mind would have chosen any decade except maybe the 80s.  The hot pink faded to more dusty rose and the electric blue triangles and purple squares had also faded into just being tired. There was a small vending area in the corner where the soda machine hummed loudly—the only noise in the silence of the surgical waiting area at almost a quarter after midnight.
He couldn’t stop replaying in his mind what had happened.  Hunching forward, he clutched at the cup of cooling coffee and tried not to hyperventilate.
Reyes had been shot.
Twice.
And now he might not survive surgery.

With the big day approaching, how does the gothgang (and maybe other people in shadowoaks) celebrate Halloween?
In game-the players (The Graveyard Gang) Went to a school Halloween party with a haunted house, cool 'pumpkin queen' coronation, games, snacks and fun stuff. That actually turned out to be the boss fight with Celeste who attacked the school with an army of souped up animals, a horse sized bat and people cracked out on vampire blood laced drugs. Romero was orginally in charge of the haunted house but bailed early before the attack to go with his boyfriend Zombi to steal back not only Zombi's gitaur from one of the players-but the engine to his truck which was also taken by one of the players.
But on a more 'normal note'
Well, Romero is obviously tromping around his favorite place, the graveyard with his boyfriend Zombi. Mainly because he hates large crowds of people and doesn't care for sticky children-but he does like the halloween displays so once the kids have gone away and it's mostly drunk people wandering the streets, they probably head back down to town to look at the halloween displays-maybe find a party to get drunk at.
Celeste also gets shitfaced immediatly at a party.
Helena probably gets invited to some halloween party but she spends most of the morning taking her brother Danny trick or treating.
Tumblr media
Danny was canonincally 'Milk' for Halloween in game.
Guillmero would most likely go off to get laid, laid by sexy people in sexy costumes.

Potential Contestants for the Inter-Dimensional Bake-Off
My inter-dimensional bake-off prompt has got a lot of attention so here is a rough draft list of people I thought might be good (or funny) choices as potential contestants for the bake-off:
Alfred Pennyworth (DC Comics)
Lunch Lady (Danny Phantom)
Mr + Mrs Cake (My Little Pony)
Gary Prince (Fiona and Cake/Adventure Time)
Dylan B. Hollis (real life-YouTube/TikTok)
Brock and/or Cilan and/or Mallow (Pokémon anime)
Molly Weasley (Harry Potter)
Ice Bear (We Bare Bears)
Tom and Sabine Dupain-Cheng (Miraculous Ladybug)
Sanji (One Piece)
Brie Malik and/or Heath Nguyen (Gormet Hound webcomic)
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Peeta Mellark (The Hunger Games)
This is in no way a final list. I also don’t know how many people I would or would not be including if I wrote this, but they are all of the people I have been able to think of so far that are good at baking. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Toni Rembe Theatre’s OZ
Experience the enchantment and wonder of "The Wizard of Oz" brought to life in a dazzling musical production at Toni Rembe Theatre. This beloved classic, based on the timeless book by L. Frank Baum, is a feast for the senses with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, accompanied by background music composed by Herbert Stothart.
Under the masterful direction and choreography of Sam Pinkleton, the talented cast takes center stage, delivering sensational performances that will leave you spellbound. Chanel Tilghman shines as Dorothy Gale, capturing the essence of this iconic character with grace and charm. Alongside her are the incredibly talented El Beh as Uncle Henry, Oz Guard, and Coroner, showcasing their versatility by also playing the cello, and Darryl V. Jones as the endearing Tin Man and Hickory.
On some days, Katrina Lauren McGraw mesmerizes as Glinda and Aunt 'Em, while Danny Scheie brings the Scarecrow and Hunk to life with his impeccable comedic timing. Cathleen Ridley roars onto the stage as the Lion and Zeke, captivating the audience with their powerful presence. The wickedness of the Wicked Witch of the West and Miss Gulch is expertly portrayed by Courtney Walsh, leaving a chilling impression.
The supporting cast, including Ezra Reeves, Travis Santell Rowland, Ada Westfall, and Beth Wilmurth, add depth and vibrancy to the production, each displaying their immense talent and contributing to the seamless storytelling. The ensemble, led by Rowland as the dance captain, showcases their remarkable skills, creating visually stunning dance numbers that will leave you breathless.
The creative team behind this extraordinary production has left no detail untouched. The scenic and costume designs by David Zinn transport the audience into the magical land of Oz, while Stacey DeRosier's lighting design adds depth and nuance to each scene. Ursula Kwong-Brown and Danny Erdberg masterfully create a captivating soundscape that immerses the audience in the world of Oz. Swings also include Angel Adedokun, Keiko Shimosato Carreiro, Kunal Prasad, and Ryan Patrick (RP) Welsh.
Tumblr media
Special mention must be made of Ada Westfall, who not only provides additional orchestrations but also serves as the music supervisor and assistant music director. Their expertise ensures that the music and melodies resonate beautifully throughout the performance. The dedication and talent of David Moschler as the music director and Leigh Robson-Davis as the associate director further elevate the production to new heights.
Furthermore, the inclusivity and diversity of this production deserve praise. The decision to include LGBTQI actors and actresses in key roles, such as the Wicked Witch, Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow, demonstrates a commitment to embracing and celebrating all identities. By making traditionally binary roles gender-fluid, the production opens its arms to the queer, trans, and non-binary community, fostering a more accepting and inclusive theatrical experience.
“The Wizard of Oz" at Toni Rembe Theatre is a triumphant musical spectacle that will captivate audiences of all ages. With its exceptional cast, imaginative staging, and breathtaking performances, this production is a testament to the enduring magic of one of the world's most beloved stories. Don't miss your chance to journey down the Yellow Brick Road and rediscover the power of friendship, courage, and the pursuit of one's dreams.

This adaptation offers a fresh twist on the beloved classic, captivating audiences of all ages with its unique approach and inclusive casting.
One of the standout features of this production is its scaled-down cast, which creates an intimate atmosphere and allows for a more immersive experience. What sets this rendition apart is the innovative use of common children's toys and party props, transforming the stage into a familiar and magical world that resonates with everyone. From the twister mat to pompoms, an inflatable dinosaur, functional children toy cars and oversized toy houses and even a typewriter. The contemporary adaptation was also improv’d and developed with children in mind. Not naughty but there are some jokes for the older crowds but as the younger peeps say these days… iykyk!
"The Wizard of Oz" tells the captivating story of Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, who is swept away by a tornado to the enchanting land of Oz. In her quest to return home, she embarks on a remarkable journey accompanied by her loyal dog, Toto, and meets extraordinary characters along the way.
Dorothy befriends the Scarecrow, who desires a brain, the Tin Man, who longs for a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who seeks courage. Together, they navigate the treacherous Yellow Brick Road in search of the mysterious Wizard of Oz, hoping he will grant their wishes. Along their path, they encounter challenges and confront the Wicked Witch of the West, who relentlessly pursues Dorothy and her companions.
Throughout the adventure, Dorothy learns the importance of friendship, self-belief, and the true meaning of home. With the help of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy discovers that the power to return home lies within herself all along.
"The Wizard of Oz" is a timeless tale that reminds us of the power of dreams, the strength of human connections, and the boundless possibilities that await us when we embark on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and courage.

What Was Bound, What Was Loosed Chapter 3
Written for Dannymay Day 6: Core.
.
Ellie took to spending her days in the palace library.
Danny thought he was trapped. Believed he was trapped. So did everyone else. But Ellie didn’t believe it. All cages had keys. Danny had opened hers. It was only right that she return the favor.
(Of course, she wasn’t happy about being stuck herself. There were still things she wanted to see on Earth. She missed the stars.)
The books were old and new. Some were in English, others were in languages she couldn’t even begin to recognize. Most of them had nothing to do with what she was looking for. Like in any library, they were on a wide variety of subjects, all spread out.
Still, she searched. The stack of tomes that had to do with ghostly kingship and the laws of the Infinite Realms grew progressively larger. Occasionally, one of the shades would attempt to put the books back, but they were easily dissuaded, having no will of their own.
She was making progress. Not a lot, but some. Enough to keep her going.
.
Vlad knew when to quit.
Oh, maybe it didn’t seem like it, he was easily as obsessive as any ghost, but he did. Sometimes, a plan just wasn’t feasible, and he had to cut his losses.
Cutting his losses, in this case, meant getting incredibly drunk on ghost wine. Fright Knight didn’t approve, but who cared what he thought? Fright Knight was part of the reason he was in this situation in the first place!
If he had just been warned this would happen, he’d have been able to make arrangements, to find some way to keep his portal open, or to stay in the human world, where his life was.
But no. They were all trapped here. No way out.
When hundreds of ghosts all said the same thing, Vlad was inclined to believe them. Danielle, as motivated as she was, was simply experiencing denial. Or, perhaps, bargaining. He had to admit he was never exactly clear on the stages of grief.
Then, there was Daniel, who seemed to be firmly trapped in the ‘depression’ stage, more of a ghost than Vlad had ever seen him as. He lingered in corners, at the edge of Vlad’s vision, quiet, sad, always flanked by Fright Knight and that other ghost, the one with the clocks.
There were parts of him, his Obsession reasserting itself, that yearned to reach out to Danny, but… He didn’t even know how to begin.
.
Danny felt like a pale, wandering shadow of himself.
Most of the time, he slept, exhausted by the demands the Zone made on him and the continuing changes he was undergoing. The expanding circle of vitality, of rejuvenation, of reconstruction and growth, that so many ghosts were celebrating had to draw energy from somewhere, after all, and even though Danny was absorbing just as much as he was expending, that process made him drowsy in and of itself.
Pain, too, plagued him. His missing eye ached, and sometimes it seemed as if the crown was burrowing into his skull, not merely resting on it. His hand hurt from all his attempts to take off the ring.
He could hardly care for himself in even the most basic of ways. Clockwork often had to remind him, or help him, and he was always so excruciatingly gentle.
Then Vlad and Ellie came.
Their arrival was a relief. Ellie was a friend, was family, and hadn’t been complicit in his betrayal and binding. Vlad had been an enemy, and not even an honest one at that, but essentially everything they’d been at odds over was moot, but he was familiar.
Despite the relief, despite his desire to connect with people who hadn’t hurt him, at least not as badly as everyone else, he hung back. He didn’t know what to do, didn’t know how to bridge the gap.
So, he lurked and lingered. When Ellie went to the library, when Vlad moped and bothered the shades that ordered the kitchen, he followed, he watched.
Clockwork and Fright Knight, of course, followed and watched him in turn.
At least, this is what happened when he was awake and aware enough to do anything. Danny was under the impression that being awake and independently mobile at all this soon after being… coronated… was unusual, perhaps even unnerving. Normally, he’d be curious, excited about new abilities and what they might mean. Maybe he’d even throw around a quip or two about how awesome he was but…
It wasn’t the time, and he didn’t have the willpower to reach for even that dubious coping mechanism.
In the too-numerous times when Danny was both awake and not well enough to follow Ellie and Vlad around, he liked to sit in the garden. It was almost peaceful there, by the fountain, although the plants had a distressing tendency to reflect his every change in mood.
Today was one of those days. He was too dizzy and lightheaded to drift after Vlad or Ellie, even if neither of them moved very much, but he didn’t want to stay in the bedroom, or, worse, the throne room. His core seemed to pulse, sluggish and painful in his chest. Or perhaps that was his heart. He couldn’t really tell with this mixed-up form. It could even be both.
Another slow wave of transformation swept out from him, making his extremities tingle. He watched, tiredly, as it briefly interacted with the walls of the palace and the scattered shades before moving on. The shades… another aspect of all this that Danny wasn’t comfortable with, but couldn’t bring himself to learn more about. They were sustained through his power, but what were they? Extensions of his will? Aspects of his personality? Constructs generated by the palace? By the Ghost Zone itself? He didn’t know.
As much as he should try to learn, he couldn’t help but think of them as yet another imposition, another burden he was being forced to bear.
This wasn’t a healthy mindset. Jazz would tell him as much. Jazz wasn’t here.
“Danny!”
He looked up, his one eye already searching for Ellie. Fright Knight stepped forward, as if to protect him, but Danny snarled at him, annoyed. He wasn’t going to let him get in between him and one of the few people he could currently stand. Clockwork stayed back, passive, but he looked… worried. Uneasy. As if anticipating a disaster.
“Danny!” exclaimed Ellie again, bursting from a bush, a thick book raised above her head. “I found it!”
“Found what?” asked Danny, leaning forward slightly as Ellie joined him sitting on the edge of the fountain.
“A way out!” She opened the book and started flipping through it, obviously looking for a specific entry.
Both Clockwork and Fright Knight looked extremely tense, now. They probably didn’t want him to find this, didn’t want him to leave. Would they try to stop him?
He hunched his shoulders. He might not be well, but he could fight and make it hurt.
“Here!” said Ellie, triumphantly. “Look at this.” She tapped a picture of a bright, spherical object.
“The core of the Infinite Realms?” asked Danny, reading the legend of the picture.
“Uh huh. Apparently, it’s what determines what the Ghost Zone is like as a whole and controls the rules and laws and stuff. Like, even when it comes to what ghosts act like, and what they can physically do, or how the Ghost Zone’s physics behave. But the important part is that you can go talk to it and petition it and stuff, and sometimes it’ll listen. I bet we can get it to listen to you and make it so that the Ghost Zone doesn’t need a king anymore.”
Danny felt a flutter of hope. The book was old from what he could see, and, ignoring Ellie’s paraphrasing, the language was fantastical and couched in metaphor, but still if there was a possibility…
Near their feet, small, bright flowers began to bloom, each no larger than the head of a pin.
“Daniel,” said Clockwork, in a careful, soft tone. It wasn’t pity, not quite, but it was the verbal equivalent of being handled with kid gloves. “It doesn’t work like that.”
“Then what is it like?” asked Danny, hunching his shoulders and leaning protectively over Ellie.
“What do you think the King of the Infinite Realms is?” asked Clockwork.
Danny shrugged. Clockwork gave him a small, pained smile.
“The King of Ghosts and the core of the Ghost Zone,” said Clockwork, “they’re the same.”
Danny shook his head, unwilling to let this scrap of hope slip through his fingers so easily.
“Please, Daniel,” said Clockwork. “Why do you think it was so vital that you be crowned? The Realms cannot exist without their core.”
It made sense. A horrible, horrible sense.
“That doesn’t make sense,” said Ellie. “The core’s supposed to be the basis the whole Zone is built on. That can’t just be one person.”
“The library has some books on the subject,” said Clockwork. “But you can see how Daniel is changing things.”
Danny felt his hope collapse and doubled over, hands on his head, face almost touching his legs. A scream bubbled up in his throat, but he swallowed it. All those people, everywhere, his responsibility, his… Not just the people, everything. Everywhere. Not just his responsibility, but relying on him, modeled on him, dependent on him, centered on him.
He wasn’t just the Ghost Zone’s ruler, nominal or not, he was its heart.
“Danny?” asked Ellie. He looked up.
There were blast lines in the ground, radiating away from him. The fountain was cracked and leaking water. Fright Knight had, evidently, grabbed Ellie and leaped away, into the air.
Clockwork hadn’t left, still leaning towards Danny. There was a jagged, dripping slice across his shoulder. Danny gasped, reaching towards him.
“It’s alright,” said Clockwork. “It’s alright.”
“I can’t be,” said Danny. “I can’t be. I’m—I can’t be part of the Ghost Zone. Not—Not like that. That’s not—I can’t be what the Ghost Zone is built on, it doesn’t make sense, I…”
“It’s alright,” repeated Clockwork. “Would you like to go inside? You may feel better if you eat something.”
“Don’t want to bother Vlad,” mumbled Danny. Didn’t want another person to see him crumbling like this.
“We can send something up to your room,” said Clockwork.
He did feel tired. The fountain was repairing itself behind and underneath him. He groaned as the ground beneath him pulled together as well.
“I don’t want to be the core of the Ghost Zone,” he said, knowing that what he wanted was not and never had been a consideration. “I don’t want to be king. I don’t want to be in charge of anything.” He grabbed the edges of Clockwork’s robe, ignoring the moisture despite the pang of guilt it brought him. “I want to go home. And I…” His words failed as he reached for Clockwork’s injury. “I don’t want to do this.”
“This is nothing, Daniel,” putting a gloved hand over the wound. “I have had far worse.”
It started to rain. Great, heavy droplets of water tainted with just enough ectoplasm to glow.
It was one way to hide tears, he supposed.

DANNY KAYE
January 18, 1911
Tumblr media
Danny Kaye was born David Daniel Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York, in 1911, although he would later claim 1913.  A multi-talented performer, he was an actor, singer, dancer, comedian, and musician. A high school drop-out, Kaye's first break came in 1933 when he joined a vaudeville dance act that toured the United States and Asia.
Tumblr media
Kaye's film debut came in 1937 with a series of low-budget shorts. The series ended when the studio shut down in 1938.
Tumblr media
On Broadway, Kaye appeared in The Straw Hat Revue (1939), Lady in the Dark (1941, above center), and Let's Face It! (1941).
Tumblr media
After a significant absence, Kaye returned to Broadway in 1970 to play Noah in the musical Two By Two. When he broke his leg, he performed the role in a cast using a crutch!
Tumblr media
Kaye’s first time on television was also his first time appearing with Lucille Ball: “The 24th Annual Academy Awards.”
Tumblr media
Some of Kaye’s best-loved motion pictures include White Christmas (1954), The Court Jester (1955), and On the Riviera (1951).  In 1955, he was given an honorary Oscar for “his unique talents, his service to the Academy, the motion picture industry, and the American people.” In 1980, he was the recipient of the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Tumblr media
Although Kaye never appeared on “I Love Lucy” he was mentioned in the dialogue. “Lucy Meets the Queen” (ILL S5;E15) was doubtless inspired by Danny Kaye’s November 1948 Command performance for King George and Princess Elizabeth at the Palladium Theatre.
Lucy (to the Bellboy): Have you ever seen the Queen? Bellhop: No, ma'am. But I came frightful close during the coronation. I just missed her. But I did catch a glimpse of him. Lucy: Philip? Bellhop: No, ma'am. Danny Kaye.
Tumblr media
In a 1959 episode of “The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour” Lucy complains about how many meals she’s cooked as a housewife:
Ricky (reading Variety): It says here that Danny Kaye is going to London to give another command performance for Queen Elizabeth. Lucy: I wonder what the Queen is cooking for Phil tonight?
Tumblr media
In 1960, Kaye signed a $1.5 million contract for three annual specials that would set the pattern for his later series. Lucille Ball joined him for “The Danny Kaye Show” on November 11, 1962. Because it was the first television teaming of the two famous redheads, the special was hailed as “A Television First” and was also Lucille Ball’s first appearance in color.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball sang, danced the Twist, and did imitations of Judy Garland, Carol Channing, and Marlene Dietrich. The highlight of the special was undoubtedly their three-part sketch about the trend of internationally themed restaurants.
Tumblr media
Two years later, on November 4, 1964, Ball made a second appearance on the program.
Tumblr media
Without the use of costumes or scenery, Kaye and Lucille Ball performed a sketch about a married couple forced to fire a maid who is monopolizing the care of their baby.
Tumblr media
Danny Kaye and Lucille Ball performed “The Balloonists,” which included making playful noises with the balloons as they sing and dance, ultimately popping every balloon on the stage.
Tumblr media
The next sketch imagines what would happen if a snowstorm kept all but two actors in a traveling troupe from arriving at the theatre to perform a Victorian melodrama. It turns into a quick change act for the two actors.
Tumblr media
On December 28, 1964, Kaye repaid the favor by appearing on “The Lucy Show” in “Lucy Meets Danny Kaye” (S3;E15). Kaye played himself, and Lucy Carmichael was her usual star-struck self!
Tumblr media
In November 1965, Lucy and Danny were two of the performers on tap for a “Salute To Stan Laurel” who had died earlier in the year. The two have no scenes together.
Tumblr media
In November 1976, Kaye contributed to “CBS Salutes Lucy: The First 25 Years”.  Kaye talks about Lucy’s skill at physical comedy.
Kaye: “Calling Lucille Ball 'just’ a comedian is like calling Margot Fonteyne 'just’ a dancer.”
In 1985, Lucy and Danny were two of the celebrities in “Night of 100 Stars II” at Radio City Music Hall.
Tumblr media
In February 1986, Kaye made his final screen appearance as a Dentist on “The Cosby Show”. The role got him nominated for an Emmy Award, although he lost to Roscoe Lee Brown for a guest shot on the same series.  Coincidentally, Lucille Ball was a presenter at “The 38th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards”.
Kaye married Sylvia Fine in January 1940. They had one child (Dena) and were together until he died of heart failure on March 3, 1987, aged 76.
“Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint you can at it.” ~ Danny Kaye

On Sunday 26 April, the world’s greatest marathon celebrates another landmark moment in its extraordinary history – The 40th Race...
“Every year on Marathon Day, London is transformed. On one amazing day, the runners take on the challenge of 26.2 miles as families and friends come out to support them. Charities, which spend months championing causes and runners, line the route. Many thousands of volunteers come together and more than 750,000 spectators line the streets, cheering on every runner – it is London, and the UK, at its best.
