Weekend Top Ten #469
Top Ten Crazy WandaVision Theories
So all the while I was watching The Mandalorian I kept thinking, blimey, they’ve nailed this. There’s an oft-repeated problem with modern serial dramas, which is that they tend to tread water a little bit; despite being shorn of the network requirement of episodes being a certain length, or having a certain number of episodes in a season, there’s this in-built compulsion to make about a dozen 45-minute episodes. This is what scuppered the Marvel Netflix series in particular; there simply wasn’t enough story to cover the seasons, and as a result there was a lot of treading of water. This has also affected the recent Star Trek shows, although Discovery does show signs of pulling out of this “twelve-hour movie” mindset. Mando totally transcends this in a superlative way: each episode is basically an “adventure of the week” type thing (Mando versus spiders, Mando goes to the fish planet, Mando meets a Jedi, etc). But each episode also builds on the arc; he’s always on the same quest, and everything he does week by week furthers this quest. As much as I was looking forward to WandaVision, I kept reminding myself, there’s no way they can do this; no way these two shows – my most-anticipated shows from two of my most-beloved franchises – can hit the bar so successfully, back-to-back.
Well.
I’m not sure if WandaVision is quite the overall triumph The Mandalorian is, but they’re both pretty tremendous achievements in slightly different ways. Wanda manages to tell a rather unsettling story in the MCU whilst also doing a terrific job of parodying sitcom tropes; it works on a meta level as well as a practical one. Also, as far as puzzle-box type programmes go, this one has been doing an excellent job; week by week, you’re further intrigued by what’s going on in Westview; what’s real? Who’s behind it? is Vision still dead? Will Darcy get her own show? It’s a fantastic exercise in drip-feeding information, maintaining a degree of unease and suspense, and offering a compelling mystery. Will they keep it up until the end? I’ve no idea; the reveal at the end of episode seven wasn’t quite a jaw-on-the-floor moment but it was exquisitely done, with a theme song and everything. Even if the most obvious predictions end up being true and the finale becomes a relatively straightforward goodies-versus-baddies barney, I’ve got faith in everyone involved to at least give us something utterly compelling and thoroughly entertaining.
But what if there really is at least one huge surprise left up the show’s vibranium sleeve? Certainly, the reveal of Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff – being, visually if not in character at least, the Fox/X-Men universe version of Wanda’s brother, rather than the Adam Taylor-Johnson version we knew from Age of Ultron – was a hell of a moment, seemingly bridging the gap between the MCU as we knew it and the previously Fox-controlled properties. Since then, there’s been this bubbling rumour (which I’ve tried not to read too much into by literally not reading too much; this is something I’ve divined from headlines or stray tweets, because I want to keep forging my way through WandaVision without a map) that there is another epic cameo approaching, on the level of Luke Skywalker popping up in the finale of The Mandalorian. That moment was something of a surprise, even though I had it rather spoiled by Twitter; despite muting as many words as possible to do with the show, “Luke Skywalker” still popped up in trending topics. I’ve learned my lesson, and I essentially forgo any social media (and a lot of other sites too) until I’ve seen the most recent episode. Anyway, what if this is true; what if there’s another character or moment that will rock the Marvel world to an even greater extent than The Other Pietro? If we’d be as surprised and delighted by something as much as we were by Luke making short work of those Dark Troopers? With this in mind, and being aware of the encroaching WandaVision finale, here are some predictions. What could happen? Who could we see? Which long-dormant plot thread will get resurrected? Read on to find out! And – spoiler warning – this has been revisited following the most recent episode; we are officially in the endgame now.
And I’m sure all of these are realistic and serious suggestions.
Tumblr media
I Am Your Father: We have actually met Wanda’s parents at last; ordinary decent Sarkovian folk, it seems. But from where did her nascent witchy powers appear? What if, in a shocking last-minute twist, we discover her real father, and he’s played by… Ian McKellen! It was Eric all along!
SWORD versus Skrulls: a post-credit sting will reveal that – shock! – Tyler Hayward is, in fact, a SKRULL! Yes, finally, the shape-shifting buggers will get to be the baddies from the comics, as an up-to-no-good splinter faction of the beleaguered race makes its presence felt on the MCU, having successfully infiltrated world governments over the past thirty years. This will set up Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion series.
The Ultron of it All: there have been more mentions of Ultron in WandaVision than in any MCU property since, well, Age of Ultron. And now we have a custom-built all-white model of Vision, big as life and twice as creepy. What if – what if – shorn of his own psyche (his own soul?) and without an Infinity Stone to keep him upright, there remains in the hardware some remnant of everyone’s favourite sarky, genocidal mechanoid? Ultron returns! Screw you, planet Earth!
The Sorcerer Supreme is Not Happy: we know magic exists in the MCU because of Doctor Strange, so seeing Agatha and her family get their Hocus Pocus on in old Salem wasn’t too much of a surprise. But isn’t the Sorcerer Supreme supposed to keep an eye on magic use in the multiverse? I was half expecting Tilda Swinton to pop up in the flashback and bind Agatha with the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak. But now, with all the chaos magic Wanda is using in Westview, coupled with Agatha’s own spelling bee? Surely this has drawn the attention of somebody? Anybody? I mean, New York isn’t that far from Jersey, especially if you’ve got a sling ring, y’know?
No More Avengers: so Benedict Cumberbatch popping up wouldn’t be that much of a surprise (especially as Wanda is in the next Doctor Strange movie) but even if he’s not on Magic Police duty, wouldn’t an enhanced situation of this size draw the attention of one of the Avengers? Except – shock horror! – there are no Avengers! In a revelation that will set up the status quo of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, since the events of Endgame the Avengers literally don’t exist. So who will unite to save the world, not just from Wanda or Agatha, but also from the likes of SWORD? Well, right now, no one; but maybe that’ll change when the real villains appear…
No More Mutants: in the “House of M” storyline, Wanda very famously said “no more mutants” and it was so (more or less). Mutants don’t (seem to) exist in the MCU. But what if, at one point, they did? I don’t think this could have been Wanda’s doing, but what if in the past someone else had used magic to de-power/de-mutify the existing mutant population of Earth, and – basically – made everyone forget about it? And in the climax of WandaVision, well, “no more” is undone and – boom! – X-genes abound. This could even maybe set up some events in The Eternals, who I believe have some history with mutants in the comics (I’m really not very well-versed in Eternals lore)
Soul Stealer: so Wanda’s the Scarlet Witch, and a chaos magician, and super-enhanced courtesy of an Infinity Stone, but still: how did she create not one but three super-powered lifeforms? Where did they come from? Did she steal their souls? Is she leeching her own life-force to maintain them? I think we’ll discover a bit more about her powers and reveal that she’s drawing energy mutliversally, maybe from the Dark Dimension – maybe from Mephisto? I’d actually put money on Mephisto not showing up at all, despite his comic book connections to Agatha and Wanda.
Multiversal Madness: why that Pietro? He’s just a fake, just an automaton – right? But he’s still out and about spooking Monica whilst Agatha’s dealing with Wanda… yeah? And he looks like another Pietro from another universe (even if he doesn’t act like that). So… why? And who? I really, really think there’s some kind of multiversal craziness going on here, some force beyond Wanda (and Agatha!). Maybe it’s to do with Wanda pulling power from across the multiverse, maybe it’s… something else. Maybe we’ll get cameos from Lou Ferringo, Bruce Campbell, Spider-Ham and ROM the Space Knight. Hey, don’t forget: Transformers was a Marvel comic once! And they do have a Chaos-Bringer…
Wanda Did It: one of the prevailing theories/queries about WandaVision has been who’s behind it all. Wanda’s not powerful enough (or villainous enough), so who exactly did create TV Westview? Who brought Vision back, gave Wanda her sons? Well, the latest ep sure seemed to show that it really was Wanda All Along. The explanation being that she’s “the Scarlet Witch”, a presumably hella-powerful sorcerer and also (let’s not forget) imbued with Infinity Stoniness. But is she on her own really that strong, and would she – even in her despair – alter so many minds? What if there’s another Wanda, a Wanda prepared to go all-out, a Wanda who – after losing everything on her Earth is trying to recreate it by pooling her powers will another Wanda? An alternate universe, more damaged, more villainous Wanda – a Wanda who’s already said “no more mutants”, maybe; maybe even the Wanda from the Fox X-Men films (who AFAIK we’ve only seen as a little girl in her brother’s arms). That’s why Pietro looks like that, because she’s trying to rebuild her own life using the powers of this other Wanda. Two Wandas; two Witches. Dukin’ it out. And who can come to save the day, but the X-Men?
We’re All Doomed: giving credit to my brother for pointing me in this direction when he said “if there’s a big bad in WandaVision it either has to be someone very good at magic or very good at science”. Or… both? Think about it. Which character, if they cameoed in an MCU property, could possibly generate as much excitement as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian? No actor from the MCU; not even Downey. From another Marvel property? We’ve had a Fox actor already and with the rumours about Spider-Man: No Way Home, whether we saw Hugh Jackman or Tobey Maguire, I think that would be exciting but not as exciting. So I think it’s a character, not an actor. A character big and exciting enough to make us all squee. And which character from Marvel has never been seen in the MCU, is not necessarily expected any time soon, is very good at magic and very good at science? One. I’d say only one. Bring it on.
This actually became a lot more sensible than I’d intended! I was gonna go all-out, rolling in Muppet Babies, MODOK, HERBIE, the Phoenix Force, and basically the entire Patton Oswalt speech from Parks and Recreation. And whilst I think virtually none of these will (or should?!) happen, just imagine… man, I can’t believe we have to wait a week!

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Five
youtube
Tumblr media
-Greetings and thanks for joining me for my semi-annual coverage of marching through Star Trek: The Next Generation. Today I am covering season five (trailer) of the BluRay collection that I continue to ever-so-slowly progress through at one or two episodes a week. I started season five off in February and wrapped it up a couple days ago by watching at this rate. Part of the side effect of that was taking advantage of extended free trials of CBS All Access and binging through all of Picard and the first two seasons of Discovery within two months while keeping up with an episode or two a week of season five of TNG. There happens to be a couple episodes of this season of TNG that play a notable role in Picard, so the timing of it all gelling together was a lucky coincidence. I gave brief recaps of both Picard and Discovery in my annual TV season recap blog that can be found by click or pressing here. I apologize in advance for the questionable-in-quality pics in this entry from my ancient Samsung Galaxy S7 which makes it worth it to grab so many subtitle moments from this season! -The only notable cast change this season is the addition of Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes). She becomes a recurring character this season as someone who is essentially introduced as coming off work release after a court martial and working her way back into Starfleet in the lowest rack of Ensign and serves primarily at the helm of the bridge. Forbes is fantastic as Ro and she has a few landmark episodes this season with my favorite of hers being “The Next Phase” where Ro and Geordi (LeVar Burton) are de-moleculed and appear as ghosts to the rest of the ship who responds by throwing a funeral for them in the form of a Mardi Gras-esque party at Ten Forward. Forbes is absolutely sublime here in Ro’s pining curiosity at how Riker (Jonathon Frakes) will eulogize her.
Tumblr media
-This was a big episode for other recurring characters this season too. That is kind of a big deal considering season five is the only season of the series without a Q (John de Lancie) episode. I like how they find new ways to bring back Denise Crosby, who was shown as a mysterious cliffhanger to the end of the two-part arc of “Redemption” that finished off season four. It picks up in a big way with how Denise Crosby’s new character is connected to Tasha, and how the Romulans get involved in the never-ending civil war of the Klingons that eventually has the gratifying conclusion of Worf winning back his honor among Klingons. Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) has her biggest role yet in the series this season in the two-parter “Time’s Arrow” that has the first part wrap-up season five where we discover the origin of Guinan in the 1890s as the Enterprise crew time travels back then and also encounters an antagonistic Mark Twain in an intriguing episode. Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) returns for two episodes this season. One is an oddball episode where all on the Enterprise but Wesley and Ensign Lefler (Ashley Judd) are mind controlled by a mysterious augmented reality game. The other episode is much better as Wesley and a few of his squad mates deliver prepared depositions as they are ruthlessly interrogated on the death of one of their peers. The annual Lwaxana (Majel Barrett) episode is about the expected chore to get through in her continued struggles to find a partner where she sets up an arranged marriage that is doomed from the beginning. Props to Chief O’Brien (Colm Meaney) having a kid this season! -Season five marks the addition of two major personal belongings to one Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). One is the iconic jacket he dons throughout most of the season. I have no idea yet if he wears it in the remaining seasons, but it is a slick jacket and gives him a space cowboy type of vibe to him! I bet it sold boatloads in merchandise! The other item is a special flute that is gifted to him in “The Inner Light” when Picard’s mind engages in a Inception-like lifetime of memories in the span of under a half hour where he experiences an all new culture and life. It is a delight of an episode I appreciate the more I reflect upon it. I later learned in the bonus interviews that this flute melody became a common occurrence at weddings.
Tumblr media
-I want to make sure to give kudos to some of my other favorite episodes this season. I loved seeing Spock (Leonard Nimoy) finally make an appearance on TNG. At this point of the show, appearances from the core Original Series crew has been extremely rare and limited, but TNG gets the most out of Nimoy with him playing a major role in another two-part arc where Spock tries to reunite the Romulans back into the Federation of Planets. One of the top episodes this season is “Ethics” where an accident leaves Worf (Michael Dorn) paralyzed and according Klingon ritual must self-sacrifice himself for the greater good. This results in some of the best speeches of the season where Riker and Picard implore Worf to reconsider before Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden) impresses with her surprisingly improving doctor skillset to resolve Worf’s paralysis. An episode that initially appears to have a silly premise, but I outright loved by the end is “Darmok.” Picard winds up stuck on an island with an individual of an undiscovered species that only speaks in metaphors. Picard is as baffled as me trying to decipher the metaphors at first, but gradually picks up on it and by the episode’s end forms a kindship with him as the duo team up against a new threat. “I, Borg” is an episode that plays into Picard later on that sees the Enterprise take in an injured Borg and give it the ability to have independent thought again.
Tumblr media
A guilty pleasure TV theme of mine in recent years is the time loop episode theme in the form of Groundhog’s Day. Discovery had a terrific rendition of it in its second season. I was thrilled to see TNG do their version of a time loop episode in “Cause and Effect.” It has a banger of an opening that sees that Enterprise exploding and eventually the scenes start to repeat that sees the crew start to recognize their situation and attempt to find a way out of the time loop. I came to discover in the bonus interviews that this episode preceded Groundhog’s Day by nearly two years, and unlike that film and all the TV shows that have pay homage to it over the years, TNG plays it in a serious manner and not as a comedy, but the writing for it is so well done that it works and is pulled off in a way that had me invested until the end! -While there were a fair amount of standout episodes this season, I would be remiss if I were not to go this far and fail to mention there were several clunkers. Some of the ones I recommend skipping is where Riker falls for an androgynous being that has a non-committal ending and the episode plays out totally differently today than it was intended then. Another dud is where them dang Ferangi are up to no good again in failing to kidnap a seductive being that has a strong desire for Picard. The biggest abnormality this season is where according to my notes I surmised the episode as ‘imaginary friend comes to life, blargh!’ Trust me on that being all you need to know on the astutely titled episode, “Imaginary Friend.”
Tumblr media
-I want to once again give a shoutout to the podcast, Star Trek: The Next Conversation. Hosts Andrew Secunda and Matt Mira breakdown every episode of TNG and help provide ample background, facts and insight with their analysis of each episode. Because of re-watching TNG and combined with their podcast I have been able to better pickup on countless TNG references in other TV shows and podcasts over these past couple years. Click or press here to give them a listen if you have not already. -There are nearly four and a half hours of extra features that are nicely spread out across all six discs. In addition, there are also four episodes that have commentary from cast and crew with one noteworthy highlight being Orville creator, Seth McFarlane guesting on the commentary for “Cause and Effect.” A lot of the bonus extra are carried over from the original DVDs, but like previous seasons there are a couple of new HD bonuses for the BluRay. Mission Overview deep dives into the production of a couple of my favorite episodes of the season, “Darmok” and Spok’s return in “Unification.” Tribute to Gene Roddenbury has clips of speeches from various Star Trek luminaries at a building dedication to Gene and has fond memories from the cast and crew of Gene. Intergalactic Guest Stars interviews many of the aforementioned recurring characters on why they keep coming back on.
Tumblr media
These next two are new HD bonuses for the BluRay. The Music of TNG is an in-depth 75 minute discussion with three composers from the series that I truly appreciated hearing the composers dissect some of the most memorable scores and melodies of TNG history. Finally, Requiem is a two part, hour long look about writing the controversial conflicts that have been touched on throughout the run of TNG, and also has additional tributes and testimonials on Gene Roddenbury. Both are excellent thorough takes on both subject matters, and if you dig bonus features as much as I do, then I highly recommend both of them! -Season five of The Next Generation continues the success of seasons three and four. I would only mark it a notch under those two strong seasons because there seems to be a few weaker episodes this season than in the previous two. I gathered from the bonus interviews that it seemed that this season tried to go all out exploring new conflicts and themes, and sometimes it worked exceptionally well in the cause of “Cause and Effect” but other times it worked against them a few more times than usual this season. Overall though I would still rank this in the upper tier of TNG season and hope to see the final two season keep up this high bar of quality.

THE DEFINITIVE TOP 15 ATLA/TLOK EYEBROWS
You know what I love?? Lists. There are many interesting eyebrows in the Avatar-verse. Cara Delevigne who?? The real icons lie with benders. Let’s rank them, and this ranking is 100% correct and no-one can fight me, and this is completely meaningful analysis and not arbitrary in the slightest.
15: Huan
Tumblr media
Gets points for having a piercing! Express yourself, Huan!
14: The Mechanist
Tumblr media
Look at this dude’s eyebrows. He rocks the ‘I burnt my eyebrows in a freak accident’ look and he has no shame! Icon!
13: Asami
Tumblr media
Asami has eyebrows that look like she just woke up like this #flawless, but in fact, they take her a lot of work and in reality, she probably has a monobrow. You haven’t got me fooled, Asami. Either way, they’re some of the slimmest eyebrows in the series, but they can be wonderfully expressive when needed.
12: Bumi II
Tumblr media
His eyebrows showcase the ‘I am a general for an army but then they turn into the fun, crazy uncle’ personality of Bumi. Do you think he styles them into four prongs?
11: Bolin
Tumblr media
Potentially some of the thickest in the series. Their thickness is actually in proportion to Bolin’s status as a good boy.
10. Lu-Ten
Tumblr media
What do you mean he isn’t really a character!? Anyway look at those brows, and I assume this isn’t artistic lisence, but they are thicker on the outside.
9. Izumi.
Tumblr media
There is no reason for her to be on this list apart from the fact that I think we should have seen more of her because just look at her eyebrows, she isn’t to be trifled with even if she is taking a pacifistic stance, fuckers.
8. Ty Lee
Tumblr media
Now you might be thinking, Ty Lee’s eyebrows are fairly basic. Not true! Ty Lee has eyebrows that are wonderfully expressive. Ty Lee has eyebrows that only make us hurt when she is intimidated into joining Azula, understand why boys fall for her and convey the surprise she herself feels when she betrays Azula. They sell it all. Underrated eyebrows.
7. Meelo.
Tumblr media
Meelo is a weird kid. His eyebrows represent this well. They are triangles perched on his head. Do we know what they mean? They are unique. Maybe they’ll grow into a more natural shape, but for now, all they do is highlight Meelo’s strangeness.
6. Kuvira:
Tumblr media
Honestly, Kuvira would be on this list by virtue of being the only female in the series with thick eyebrows. However, damn girl, she knows how to use them. They are crazy expressive, and you know Kuvira means business. I don’t want to fuck with her. Kuvira definitely has this routine she carries out each morning for an hour every day to make herself look sharp. You have to admire her for looking good whilst she carries out her fascistic conquering.
5. Zuko:
Tumblr media
He only has one eyebrow, but Zuko just sells it. He’s so expressive that he can use the scar as an eyebrow on his own terms. Zuko just doesn’t give a shit. Zuko will glare at you or give you a smile with one eyebrow and that's good. That’s all Zuko needs.
4. Azula:
Tumblr media
Her eyebrows mean business. She will fuck you up. Azula’s eyebrows may not be showy in shape or size but they’’re fantastic in their own way. It’s not how big they are, its how you use them, and Azula knows it. They could cut a man in two if they looked at her wrong. Out of this ranking, only Azula’s amount to true eyebrow goals.
3. King Bumi:
Tumblr media
Bumi has the best crazy old man eyebrows in the series. They’re as big as he is old. They just radiate kooky wisdom and a man who actually has his shit together. Do you think Bumi gives a shit about his eyebrows!? They’re just like that because they reprseent who he is But they still come out amazing even as like a 100+-year-old man.
2. Mako:
Tumblr media
Mako was always going to be on this list, but I initially wasn’t sure how high. Sharkbrows needs to be on here because he now has a nickname because of them, dammit. They have a pronged arch. His mother and lightning bolt-zolt both have them and he was shown to have them as a child so they are all-natural, but we still see him style them in Book 3, Episode 5. Mako seems to take pride in his crazy eyebrow shape, perhaps... because they make him feel closer to his dead mother? No this isn’t a reach, this is deep psychological analysis.
1. Jet:
Tumblr media
Jet’s eyebrows are crazy weird, and it might not be immediately obvious how weird. Mako’s may have a weird shape but they still seem to behave in the normal manner of eyebrows. The thing is, the more you look at them, the weirder they get. They’re on the thinner side for male characters, but they have this shaped arch that is weirdly implausible. They just scream ‘cocky knobhead who is up to no good’. Katara, how could you ever trust him with these eyebrows, how!?!?
Tumblr media
Even when Jet dies, his eyebrows make him look suspicious. When he states he isn’t dying, it’s pretty obvious he’s lying since his eyebrows are doing the talking. Anyway, fuck you, Jet, and your damn eyebrows.
BONUS:
Mako and Bolin’s murdered parents.
Tumblr media
They had good genes.
BONUS 2:
Wan Shi-Tong.
Tumblr media
Doesn’t have true eyebrows, but still expresses himself well as a bastard anyway.

Outlander: 10 Hilarious Claire Memes That Are Too Funny – Screen Rant
Do you know who is pretty awesome? Claire Fraser is pretty awesome. She traveled all the way back to a time when ice-cream wasn’t even a thing, she was accused of witchcraft and almost burnt at the stake, she was forced to leave the love of her life and raise their child with a man she no longer loved, she miscarried her first baby… honestly, as far as strong, independent, and brave women go, the leading lady of Outlander is a fantastic example.
Related: Outlander: 10 Questions About Jenny Fraser, Answered
Granted, she isn’t perfect, but then again, who is? That just makes the character even more compelling to watch. And because we know it’s been a while since we were blessed with new episodes, we have something to make the wait for season five a little more bearable. A shot of laughter is just what the doctor ordered, so let’s dive into 10 hilarious Claire Fraser memes!

10 I’m Not Here For Your Sexism
In a time when women were far from having the same rights as men, and they were expected to stay home, raise the family, and play the part of an obedient wife, Claire Fraser (then Claire Randall) said ‘to hell with your gender roles’ and became a war nurse. And a badass one, by the way.
Claire has always been somewhat of an outlier, no matter what century she was in. Even though we didn’t get many flashbacks to her time in the war, we’re sure she had to deal with a fair share of sexism. But we’re also sure she told them to shut up and let her work. You’re welcome for being able to walk again, by the way!
9 Is This A Consolation Prize?
The words “dragonfly in amber” will always strike a chord with fans of the show and the books. Aside from the obvious meaning and being the title of the second book in the series, it’s also the name of the last episode of the second season. You know, the one where everyone cried like little babies?
In an attempt to make what is an emotional expression a little bit more entertaining, we bring you this meme. You know what Claire, you do have a point. Traveling two centuries back to get a bug in a rock? Shameful.

8 Make Good Choices
Everybody gather around, it’s time for a teachable moment. If there are any small children or teenagers in the audience, make way to the front row, because we’re about to drop some serious wisdom on you. And it’s all about the importance of being yourself. Don’t pretend you’re someone you’re not just to please other people! Got it?

Well, unless, of course, you can be Claire Fraser. This is the only exception for the rule. But if you can choose to be a courageous time-traveling nurse married to a handsome Scottish man, choose that instead. It’s better.
7 Only Pack The Essentials
Everybody knows the struggle of traveling light, correct? Even if you’re going out of town for like two days, you’re still going to pack ten pairs of underwear because you never know what can happen. Now imagine having to travel back to the 18th century. We’re not even know how baggage policy works in the stones.
But one thing’s for sure – if we were in Claire’s shoes and had to return back to a time when sanitation wasn’t exactly on point, we would forego the ten pairs of underwear in the name of toilet paper.
advertising
6 Are You Crazy?!
We know it’s hard to remember, but there was a time when Claire wasn’t exactly a huge fan of Jamie. You know, back when she first found herself in a place and time completely foreign to her, without her husband, and very poorly clothed. Plus, we can only imagine the horrible smell.
It’s no wonder she would refuse Jamie’s offer at that time, and we really don’t blame her for it. But hey, it the tables turned and we found ourselves in Claire’s position… you can bet we would think twice about it. Or not think at all, just go full Hunger Games on his Scottish behind.
5 The OG Sassy Lass
We’ve already mentioned that Claire was always an outlier, both in her original time and in the 18th century. This is because women who had a sharp tongue and volatile temper weren’t exactly desirable since they didn’t correspond to the ideal portrayal of a woman.
Related: Outlander: 10 Questions About Geillis Duncan, Answered
But guess who does not care at all? Claire! That’s who! She is a sassy, headstrong, brave woman who will not bend or break under your disapproving gaze. Guess who also doesn’t care, and actually appreciates it? Jamie Fraser, her husband, love of her life, Lord of Lallybroch, and all-around stellar man.
advertising
4 Give Us That Gene Pool
There was this incredibly touching moment when Claire and Jamie were leaving for France at the end of the first season, and she announced she was pregnant. That’s fantastic since Claire actually believed she was incapable of having children. But you know what’s actually ridiculous? How insanely attractive that whole family is.
Claire is played by an actress who was actually a model, and Jamie, well, he is Jamie. It doesn’t seem too fair that a single family would be blessed with so much beauty. Spread the genes, people! Spread the genes!
3 A Killer Combination
It’s really hard to try and define Claire Fraser in a few short sentences. As we’ve made clear in the introduction, there’s nothing this woman can’t do. And if there is, you can bet your entire fortune that she will find a way to become an expert on it. That’s just who Claire is.
But if we did have to try, this would probably be our top pick. There’s nurse, there’s alcohol, there are England and Scottland. It sounds like a pretty neat Tinder bio! Not that she needs it, though. You go, Claire Fraser, you go!
