what would you say is the best way to start a fanfic? And where is the place I should post it to get the best reception?
I started quotev a while back making fan fictions and posting them, but they never really stuck with me even when one did get super popular (..unfortunately, I WAS one of those Wally darling fanfic writers…..) . I deleted literally all of those pages, and, while that’s kinda sad and I do wish I could read them now, they were super cringe and had, like, no plot to them. I was totally winging it.
I know you do some writing of your own, and I wanted to see how exactly you plan yours/your stories out. I consider myself an intermediate writer with room for improvement, but the burn out is awful and I haven’t written anything for myself in years.
thank you!! ❤️
So, the best place to post fanfiction for me personally has always been AO3 due to their regulations making it easier to post fanworks even with heavy topics - and I find their layout options very easy to use, even as a total beginner at posting your written works online. They also include original works under their term of "fan works", which makes it easier to just post any story you got on there instead of like, for example, split them between websites dedicated for Fanfiction & original works.
I see way more interaction on AO3 than I did on any other writing-focused website I used to post at (e.g Wattpad), way more people commenting and giving their thoughts, theories and feedback on stories, which is why I post my stuff exclusively on there. :]
As for planning your story out, I got a few tools I like to use. Now, I am not in no ways a professional writer or anything beyond a hobbyist simply doing what brings their crippling autism joy, but I have found some things that helped me improve my writing by a ton in just a few months (my, I sound like one of those dating coaches LOL)
Here's some of my tips:
Get a comfortable writing program that you feel good in. I know it sounds obvious, but trust me, having a writing program you enjoy layouting, drafting and writing in makes it so much more fun to explore your stories/worlds even if you're stuck in a more tiresome part (such as layouting your world or planning chapters/plot points). I, for example, use Scrivener. It is a paid program (though I put on my pirating hat for this one) and made for professional writing such as script writing for TV and movies, novel writing and essays, but it functions well enough for any hobbyist in my humble opinion. Google docs is a free alternative most folks know & love, but I came to struggle with it's performance and tools a lot and never quite got into add-ons/mods for it. Since a lot of my stories already exceed 200-300 pages each I found the website lags a ton and I have to split up my documents instead of keeping it all organized in the same file. Scrivener also allows for you to sort your documents and chapters in individual files, which makes it even easier to work with when your chapters get long or you're writing plot points as their own individual little page & merge them in the end. Here's how my Scrivener usually looks like for writing fanfiction. I make use of the ability to organize my chapters, title them, give them little notes and have them all on one page to not lose the red thread of everything, LOL.
Tumblr media
Plan your story ahead through worldbuilding & acts. If your story isn't a "just go with the flow" or "villain of the week" kind of structure, making acts and drafting out the detail first is the key. Otherwise you can easily get lost in your own writing, which happened to my first MD fanfictions such as "Synemy" and "Bluejay's Feathers" where I either overshot arcs/chapters way too quickly - ending up with shallow characters - or didn't know when to end a story, ending up with 40+ chapters but little story or arcs being told and no ending in sight for the characters. Sure, this can absolutely work! And I'm not saying it is a bad thing, but I personally do not enjoy writing these stories anymore which is why I started to re-write them currently. What helped me immensely was the use of "Acts" for my rough draft. This is what the Acts look like for my Poppy Playtime fanfiction, for example:
Tumblr media
And here's the rest of the acts template I use:
Tumblr media
Use prompts! Don't be afraid to look up scene prompts, ideas for characters, the world or situations that could happen. Sometimes you get struck by inspiration by reading other people's ideas and it can help especially during a writer's block and/or burn out. Don't be afraid to simply just write something and trash it later, or break up written scenes into smaller sections, repurpose them, whatever - some of my best scenes were originally coming either from prompts (e.g "what would your character do in this situation?" or "Character A and B experience this, what could happen?" prompts) or after watching a movie/show and analyzing plot points. Some of my work even started out from a simple question I asked myself - what would happen if? What could happen when?
Ask for feedback - it's worth it's weight in gold. Beta- and alpha readers are your best friends, and it never hurts to ask people if they'd be interested to read your works, even if you don't intend to post them after all. I mainly do alpha-reading, meaning I generally don't beta-read something and offer worldchanging feedback, I moreso write feedback on what stands out to me, what plotpoints and scenes I really love and how I interpret the written work. I might be an avid reader & writer, but I do not consider myself settled in this hobby enough to offer constructive critique for other people's writing for the time being. There's still a ton I need to personally improve on before I can say I'm ready for beta-reading. But both Beta and Alpha readers are very valueable tools to see what a person reading your story found interesting, outstanding or exciting to see. Tropes, scenes, scenarios, characters, portrayal, dialogue - there's so much to review in a story. This can also help to outline if your story confuses or intruiges the reader, helping with the draft and outline especially if it's beta reading feedback you recieve before the story is posted.
Don't be afraid to shift and don't be scared of big edits. They will inevitably happen. I used to fear having to re-write chapters, toss around events in the timeline or even having to cut content in a written story, but sometimes this can help slim down a story and narrow it down onto the important aspects. Mistakes happen, and sometimes edits are necessary to keep the story's flow, but they're nothing to be feared. In the end, it's a fan work you're creating with your own personal motivation and it's not a huge novel waiting to be published. Don't fear messing up or not getting the draft right the first, second or third time. I needed 4 different drafts before I had a cohesive storyline for my biggest project at the time, and I took weeks between each draft. If there's passion, there will be a product of it sooner or later.

Announcement
This is Dr. Frost of @idesofrevolution , and in case y’all weren’t aware, this blog has served as my personal reblog repository for gay tf/possession/bodyswap stories. I have been thinking about making changes to this blog for some time now, and what those would be. Mainly, I’ve sort of used this blog, selfishly, for reblogging stories I intended on reading later, or that I thought were really good. That’s all it really was to me for the past several years.
However, since my tf archive @greattfarchives fulfills that for me in terms of compiling my own personal library of excellent transformative erotica, that leaves this blog without much of an identity or purpose. Until I saw the reblog trees. So with that in mind… Cockcompendium has now become
The Daily Body
This will become something of a daily newsletter of stories, writer bulletins, polls, and links to some writers individual websites. I’ll be cutting down on the content bombing (reblogging in clumps at one time) and using the queue function more often. This way, it becomes much easier to subscribe for notifications without your phone bursting into flames at random points in the day.
This blog is gonna be careful about the content as well, due to the rise of misogynistic, homophobic, racist, and pedophilic content in the tf-sphere. No pieces with these archetypes will be featured on this blog. So rest easy, this is a safe space for all kinksters to enjoy.
I hope y’all stick around for the future. If so, my sincerest thanks. If not, it’s totally chill. Either way, thank you for the support and patronage you’ve given it. New days be coming!

Webcomics at Day 100 #1: Kevin & Kell
Tumblr media
Pages read: 9/3/1995 – 9/3/1996 & 4/13/2009 – 8/18/2009; about 380 pages
Reason for selection: Best I can tell this is the oldest webcomic that’s still running as well as among the first ones made. It updated every weekday from 1995-2000 and every day since then without breaks, totaling around 4500 strips as of 2009 and 10,000 strips as of 2024. This webcomic is older than I am and has been around for over 90% of the internet’s public history. While not originally intended as a ‘furry comic’ it quickly gained popularity among furries, who are an important internet subculture. K&K meetups happened at furry conventions in the 2000s.
Current status: This comic is an eternal truth of the internet
Content warnings: predator/prey dynamics
Overall thoughts: I think this strip is charming. It’s functionally identical to a newspaper strip, and there’s nothing about its presentation that couldn’t be done in print – which makes sense as its creator was already a newspaper cartoonist before starting this. Being published on the internet allows readers easy and instant access to the archives without having to buy the newspaper each day, although the sections I’ve read don’t take advantage of this by having long running storylines that require reading the archive. There is overall continuity, but jumping from 1996 to 2009 wasn’t super confusing. At the time of writing this the website is quick to load, well organized and really easy to navigate, so it’s no work at all to just start reading and get lost in the comic.
Tumblr media
Content wise, the strip features anthropomorphic animals living in modern society (humans appear to be mythical creatures?) and includes a lot of jokes about animal traits manifesting in school, work and day to day life. Some specific jokes such as the hedgehog character getting stuck to things with her many spines are used often. Quite a few jokes rely on the fact that a significant portion of society are killing and eating the other portions on a daily basis, which is written in a lighthearted way but won’t be to everyone’s taste. I’d also describe the comic as ‘boomer humor’ in some places. Bill Holbrook began writing the strip in his late 30s so is older than the average early webcomics artist, and writes about family and technology from that perspective. The content also focuses on both nontraditional relationships and traditional family dynamics, and the ways these rub up against one another, while avoiding any genuinely controversial topics.
I love how Holbrook draws rabbits – Kevin and baby Coney’s designs are adorable to me and are the visual highlights of most strips. The character R.L., wolf and CEO of Herd Thinners Inc., is never shown in full – only his drooling mouth, fangs, and hands clasped on his desk are shown, which kicks ass as a villain design. Holbrook is also really good at conveying a character’s overall mood or vibe just through their body language in a still image, which is impressive considering how many different species he’s working with. The comic began in black and white and switched to color in 2000, and while I don’t think the color significantly improves the strip, it does make it easier to distinguish between characters of similar species as the cast has grown.
Tumblr media
Connections to Homestuck: K&K doesn’t use the affordances of the internet (such as including gifs/sound in the comic) but it is definitely about the internet. It’s established imemdiately that titular couple Kevin & Kell first met and fell in love online, and that Kevin’s job is the system operator for the ‘herbivore forum.’ Kevin attends an online high school reunion, daughter Lindesfarne (INCREDIBLE character name) attends a virtual prom, and son Rudy stays in touch with his long distance girlfriend via email. Jokes about online life being inferior to digital are rare, and spending a lot of time online is normalized within the world of the comic, a decade or two before it became normalized in the real world.
K&K also plays with the boundary between digital and real space, and commonly depicts a character typing something into the computer to cause a physical effect in the world far away. Computers physically react to the digital content they are used for, such as Kevin’s computer starting to grow leaves and plants when he spends too much time on the herbivore forum, and digital phenomena are represented physically such as this depiction of a firewall:
Tumblr media
I don’t think Rudy and Dave are the exact same archetype but Rudy does wear sunglasses 24/7 and is a different flavor of above it all coolguy whose feelings aren’t as secret as he thinks.
Continue reading? Probably! Despite being loosely drawn archetypes I did start caring about the characters quickly, enjoyed reading enough to go well past day 100, and have marked my place to come back to. It’s sweet and low effort entertainment that I can easily see myself digging into when I’m tired or sick.
I have sponsored today’s update which only costs $5 and is a small contribution to webcomics history.

What is your opinion on the site Personality Database? It's a website where people comment and vote (by majority) on a fictional character or celebrity's MBTI type. I notice people use different theories in their arguments, such as the 8 function stack one, that conflict with with 4 function stack, which isn't very conductive for a debate. This, and the majority vote system, means that many profiles get mistyped. Would you say debating there is of any use to study type theory?
You're asking two separate questions. The first is what I think about the website. I know about it because it pops up in searches but I don't use it myself, so I don't really have a strong opinion. With the voting system, the results are only as good as the people who've voted. Generally speaking, if you understand and accept the limitations of a system, then you're in a better position to get something useful from it.
The second question is whether it is of any use for studying type theory. This is a more complicated question to answer because it depends on several factors:
(1) Different people have different learning preferences. When your study materials match up well with your learning preferences, it helps you stay engaged and motivated to keep learning. So, the more important question is: What are your learning preferences and does the website align with them?
I was a philosophy major and worked as a debate coach, so debate is basically my second language. I'm fine with debate but I much prefer to learn through dialogue and discussion. I've known plenty of students who hated debate and couldn't engage because they found the atmosphere too antagonistic or polarizing.
The problem is that most people don't really know how to debate. A lot of "debates" are really just people shouting over each other and putting forth mere opinion as fact. Ideally, debate should be about bringing to light all the relevant points, evaluating them fairly, and determining where the truth lies by exposing falsehoods and fallacies.
However, since debate has a performance element, it's all too easy for ego and emotions to take over and derail noble intentions. If you're the kind of person who has a hard time concentrating only on the merits of ideas and keeping them separate from the people doing the speaking, then debate is probably not your ideal form of learning.
(2) The quality of the information provided in a debate can only be trusted to the extent that the debaters are knowledgeable people.
Beware that a lot of people are good at speaking confidently despite not really knowing what they're talking about. The problem with communicating anonymously on the internet is you don't immediately know who you're talking to and what level of education they have. An open comment section could easily include anyone, from 10-year-olds to college professors.
In order to benefit from the comments, you'd have to be able to judge their quality. But this implies that you already possess a certain level of foundational knowledge in order to judge well. But... if you already had that knowledge, how much more could you gain from a comments section?
As a general rule, when I'm a total noob at something, the first thing I do is seek out experts to learn from, people who've spent a significant chunk of their life devoted to the subject. I never want to risk being misled by inexperienced/ignorant people. I'd much rather slog through a dense book written by a well-respected person in the field than listen to a smooth-talking social media influencer with questionable credentials. I value my time and this is one way I protect myself from making costly learning mistakes or wasting my efforts.
(3) A debate is only educational to the extent that the information presented is representative of the subject as a whole.
Generally speaking, there are two kinds of debaters you ought to avoid when learning is your main goal: "egoists" and "dogmatists". These people don't take learning seriously and the way they present information can seriously bias your view of the subject.
- Egoists are skilled at "framing" a debate to make themselves look good. They believe that debating is about winning and they'll do anything to win, even if it means obfuscating the truth. They mainly care about getting attention, obtaining rewards, and/or feeling superior, so they only learn what is minimally necessary to achieve those ends. To them, knowledge is relative rather than objective, all smoke and mirrors.
- Yes, there are a variety of theories, so it can be difficult to reconcile them, or it can lead to people talking past each other. This can also produce tribal mentality as people pick sides. Dogmatic people usually start out as insecure or directionless students, so they're unconsciously looking for ways to compensate for their lack of confidence. By picking what they believe is a "winning team", they gain a more solid identity and feel more emboldened to debate and argue from a place of "authority". Unfortunately, dogmatic people end up having glaring blind spots because they're not willing to consider counterevidence and alternative viewpoints. Their learning is incomplete, and they like it that way.
This isn't to say that egoists and dogmatists can't be right about anything; it is to say that they only grasp a tiny sliver of the bigger picture. Have you ever flipped through introductory college textbooks? You'll notice that they all share a similar structure. They break the entire field up into subfields and then provide a review of the most important research for each. When you're new to a subject, getting a full and objective view of the entire subject is important for structuring your learning process logically. You won't get that breadth from egoists and dogmatists.
.
I'm a "holistic" learner, whether I like it or not. This means I have to be able to visualize the bigger picture or the final outcome in order to learn smoothly. For me, learning is like trying to put together a giant jigsaw puzzle, so it really helps to have the box with the picture on it as a guide. As a holistic learner, I welcome rather than decry the existence of many different and conflicting theories. I'm always looking to fill in the missing pieces of the grand puzzle, and one theory alone usually doesn't cut it.
If you've ever studied the history of science, psychology, or philosophy, you'll realize that there's a running narrative behind the development of major theories. New theories arise because people are responding to deficits in the theory that came before. Each new theory tackles the subject from a slightly different angle that was previously missed. I love when theories conflict with each other because that reveals the most important aspects of the subject to examine.
I don't subscribe completely to any one theory because I believe every theory has something valuable to contribute to the ongoing development of a subject. Observing a debate, I'm open to different theoretical viewpoints because I want to hear things I haven't considered yet or wasn't able to think of on my own. This fast tracks my learning. Thus, I only find debate useful to the extent that it adds something new to my understanding.
With my training in philosophical debate, it's easy for me to organize information quickly and ignore everything but the key points. I take key points from different theories and then assemble them into a framework that I can personally use and apply (this is how the study guides on my blog came into being). Similarly, if I want to type a person/character, I appreciate people bringing up details that I forgot/missed and then add them to my analysis. Also, different people perceive human behavior differently and divergences in perception often reveal important information, so I'm all about seeing exactly where people disagree.
However, not everyone learns well this way. Some people are easily overwhelmed because debates often present too much information too fast, in a messy, nonlinear format. It can be hard to pick out the key points and it's easy to get distracted by the "tone" of voice or the "dynamics" between the speakers. Whether the format will work for you, I don't know. Your mileage may vary.

webdev log 2
implemented a gallery. I originally wanted it to be more grid-like but I decided I didn't want to mess too much with that, and I like the simple look anyways. forces you to really take in every shitty drawing.
Tumblr media
it features a search function that only works for tags. its purpose is mostly just to search multiple tags, because I couldn't be fucked to add a feature where you could click on multiple tags there at the tags list at the top. it lists out all used tags in the table that stores art so you have an idea of what there all is.
Tumblr media
at the bottom there's pagination. it's INSANELY easy to do with this framework I'm using. I was gushing about it to my partner on call!! they made fun of me but that's okay!!!!
Tumblr media
anyways, clicking on the date underneath the drawing takes you to a view with the image itself (a kind of "post", if I can call it that) here you can view comments and leave one yourself if you so desire. guests are NOT allowed to reply to existing comments because I'd rather things not get too clogged up. I can't stop anyone if they did an "@{name} {message}" type comment, but I don't think anyone is gonna be chatting it up on my site, so idc. I just want it very minimal, and no nesting beyond one single reply.
Tumblr media
of course, you can comment on story chapters too so here's what it looks like for a user (me). of course, if a user (me) posts then it gets automatically approved.
the table that stores comments differentiates story comments and art comments with foreign keys to the primary keys of the the chapter and art tables. it's a little convoluted and I kind of wish I didn't do it this way but it's too damn late isn't it. but honestly it might've been the only way to do it. the problem is just repeating code for both chapter and art views.. making a change to one means I gotta manually make the same change to the other. huge pain..
Tumblr media
added user authentication and a really shitty bare bones dashboard for myself to approve/reject comments directly on the site in case someone comes along and wants to be mean to me :( rejecting a comment deletes it OFF my site forever. though I kind of want to be able to keep hate mail so I dunno.. oh, and also a big fat logout button because I have nowhere else to put it.
I'll spare everyone the more technical ramblings.
anyways, I'm hoping to add more things later. these are my plans:
allow users (me) to post stories/art through the site itself instead of doing it manually in the vscode terminal for every. single. story. and drawing. (probably took me 6+ hours total just doing this. I don't know why I did it.) (btw this consists of writing commands to store information via the terminal. also, sql and similar databases don't store things like markup or even line breaks. I had to alter all my stories and put \n every time there was a line break... and you have to escape apostrophes (or quotes, depending on which you use) so every "it's" had to be made into "it\'s" HUGE. PAIN. I didn't do this manually obviously but sifting and plugging my stories into character replacers was so time consuming)
delete comments button.... For my eyes and fingers only
make an About page. I've been avoiding all the fun things and doing just the scary stff
figure out SSH stuff...
clean up the shitty css. I refuse to use tailwind even tho it's trying to force me.. I don't want some sleek polished site I want it look like it's in shambles, because it is
but yeah thanks for reading about my webdev and coding journey. even though using the laravel framework made things a thousand times easier it's still a crazy amount of work. let's say building a site completely from scratch means buying every material and designing the house yourself, and using a website builder like wix is just like buying a pre built home and you're just decorating it. using this framework is like putting together a build-your-own-house kit. you're still building a fucking house.
I feel crazy. it felt like the site was close to breaking several times. been sleep deprived for several days working on this nonstop I think I'm getting a little sick 😵‍💫
going to bed now. it's 9 am.

hi!! I’m really interested in burning DVDs of shows w/out a physical release (bojack horseman for example) for my own personal collection. I’m not totally sure how to go about this. If you can point me towards any good resources for downloading from streaming sites or similar projects I would really appreciate it, thanks!
Sorry it took a little while to get to this, but wow, it's been a while since any of us actually burned DVD's, but we found someone who remembers!
The first step is getting your hands on the files. There's some great browser extensions like Video DownloadHelper that grabs videos straight from websites, including, apparently, Netflix itself. Unfortunately we can't verify the Netflix part because none of us actually use Netflix so...
If you don't have Netflix, feel free to visit our References page and find a streaming site that has the movies or shows you need and download from there. The other option is to torrent the media. This is where you'll find higher quality video and audio if that's important to you.
Now, the person who actually remembers how to burn DVD's swears by a free software called DVDStyler that they used back in the day. (The website is straight outta 2007 too). It allows you to create a fully functional DVD interface with menus and everything. It's pretty popular so it should be easy to find tutorials on YouTube too.
Thanks for the ask, and happy piracy!

Foundry Fabrications Has a New Home!
Hey folks! I am incredibly excited to announce the launch of something I’ve been working on the last couple of weeks: Foundry Fabrications now has a dedicated website!
For a long time, I’ve wanted a place away from Tumblr that I can call my own, where I can make all of my content easily accessible for everyone, and that can grow and change alongside me. A long time ago, I tried something like that, but it didn’t go well for a multitude of reason. Mistakes were made during that transition that I don’t intend to make again.
The new site will now be my main base of operations going forward, but I’m not going to outright abandon Tumblr like I did before, and Patreon isn’t going anywhere either. As some of you maybe saw, I have the new site set up to automatically send new posts here when I post them, so you’ll all still be kept in the loop should you decide to just stay here and not engage with it, which is totally understandable. And I still plan to check in every once in a while and make posts that are relevant to the platform should I need or want to, as well as respond to comments or questions when they happen.
Speaking of being kept in the loop, something the new site allows me to do is newsletters. Anyone who subscribes to it (which is free) will be notified by email when something new goes live. Eventually down the line I’d like to add more too it like TTRPG news or other content I want to shout out, stuff like that.
The site itself right now is nothing fancy, though I put a lot of work into making it as professional and user-friendly as I can. I’ve no experience in web design and a lot of it was existing templates I tweaked to suit my needs, as I do, so whether I accomplished that is up to y’all. The main goal was to make it easy to find a piece of content one might be looking for, or easily browse everything to see what I’ve made thus far, and that was easy do to with automatic categorization and a search function. It’s basic, but it works.
Because God has cursed me for my hubris and my work is never finished, I have a lot of plans for ways to upgrade the site with new features, various integrations, and ways to monetize my work. Gotta keep the lights and pay for the domain and service somehow. Initially, that means ads, but I’ll be looking into ways to remove them for regular supporters and I bet most of you use adblockers anyway, which I totally get, no judgement here.
That’s about all I have to say. I hope you all like the new site and I would love any feedback you have on it. Anyway, stay safe, don’t forget to love each other, and I’ll see you soon.

I did it! That was so easy to understand! Thanks for the website recommendation :)
I’m a Pisces sun, Libra moon with an ascendant Aquarius
I saved the chart so let me know if there’s anything I’m missing!
yay!!! did you read the little write up they give you too? it's pretty informative for being a free service, yk? i've used cafeastrology for years because it is one of the most complete resources that is totally free out there. most other astro sites have started charging for access to more than just the basics but never cafeastrology <333
so just for basic info, the function of your sun is just the most base version of you there is. your moon is your internal world and emotional processing. rising is how others perceive you.
fellow pisces sun!! we are harmonious people. we have high thresholds for bullshit. we are sweet and generous with our time and energy but when we're stormy, we're category 5 i fear. we can be a little self pitying at times. we can carry the load and never ask for help and get mad when our minds aren't being read about what we need. we love to make people who are committed to being misunderstood because others have made them feel that way instead feel seen, heard, and loved. that's the power of a pisces but that also makes us responsible for a lot more than we realize.
aquarius rising is interesting here and i really like it. aquarius of all the air signs like to keep a level of detachment between themselves and everyone else. that doesn't mean unfriendly or even distant just they're good at holding up boundaries between their worlds. work is work, for example, and home is home. they may have work friends and outside work friends that never meet. you're likely a person everyone enjoys being around and trusts but you may portray to them that their role in your life is their role and they don't need to overstep that which is great. pisces naturally is bad at boundaries so to have a strong reinforcement placement helps immensely.
libra moon is also interesting to me here bc moon is how you internally process emotions. libra is notorious for struggling with making hard decisions bc they worry so much about how other people may be impacted or made to feel by their decisions. they value harmony in the same way pisces does (libra and pisces are very very similar in a lot of ways tbh) so you may find yourself doubting issues in an effort to keep peace. if you have a problem with something, speak up. let that strong boundary of aquarius reinforce your spine so you can say nuh uh this isn't working for me.

Jedi Army of Light and General Population Breakdown
So, when you write a star wars fic in a time period most people don't explore, you end up having to figure out the logistics of how a military would work. Which means I looked through the US military websites and thought deeply about how orbital warfare would work.
I'm not a military history buff or anything so this is pretty much two hours of work before I said 'meh, good enough'.
Under the cut is the full breakdown I did for the Jedi population as well as the military order of the Army of Light. Keep in mind all these numbers are estimates for easy math so I don't melt my brain.
On the general population:
Somewhere in canon, it says that the Jedi population was 1 million before the end of the Sith Wars, and then 10,000 after the Battle of Ruusan. The number of 1 million is usually referring specifically to the Army of Light, so we're basing the numbers on the understanding that the army has 1 million Jedi enlisted.
If you've read In the Year Ruusan, you know that I changed the population of the Jedi at the time of the reformation to 1 million instead of 10,000, so keep that in mind as you read the rest of this post.
In order to calculate the rest of the Jedi's population, I went with the assumption that on average, Jedi who are fighting age (Padawans and older) comprise of 66% of the population. Younglings make up 15%, and those too old to be enlisted make up 19%.
Therefore:
The total population of the Jedi Order at the time of the Ruusan Reformation is about 1,340,000.
About 201,000 are Younglings.
About 134,000 are Padawan age.
About 750,400 are Knights and Masters of fighting age.
About 254,600 are Knights and Masters not of fighting age.
(Population breakdown is inspired by Switzerland)
On the Army of Light:
What's interesting about Star Wars warfare is that aerial battles (mixed with naval warfare but in SPACE) are usually run by the generals who also do the ground campaigns, at least in TCW. In the Rebellion era, most of the warfare was done using ships, even in low atmo. For example, the battle on Hoth in ESB. There were ground troops, but most things were done in the air. Probably because they were evacuating, but also because it's easier to carpet bomb stormtroopers than it is to fight with a limited supply of soldiers on the run.
During the Sith Wars, we've mostly got planetary warfare between the Jedi and Republic and the Sith Empire. This means the hierarchal order of the Army is going to be based on what is most functional for taking control of an entire planet.
Therefore, taking info from the US military, I've organized the Army of Light as following:
A planetary corps is the entire fleet sent to each planet. From there, it's broken up into two hemispheres, which is then split as needed in order to take over the major cities.
Wing - 5 beings. Led by 1 Master, usually with 2 Knights and 2 Padawans as support.
Guard - 50 beings, 10 wings. Led by a lieutenant.
Templar - 250 beings, 5 guards, 50 wings. Led by a captain.
Infantry - 1000 beings, 4 templars, 20 guards, 200 wings. Led by a lieutenant colonel.
Crusade - 5000 beings, 5 infantry, 20 templars, 100 guards, 1000 wings. Led by a colonel.
Hemisphere division - 15000 beings, 3 crusades, 15 infantry, 60 templars, 300 guards, 3000 wings. Led by a major general. Covers half a planet, both in atmo and on the surface.
Planetary corps - 35000 beings, 2 hemisphere divisions. Led by a lieutenant general.
There's a total of 28 active planetary corps.
Planetary corps are split up as needed, breaking down along this grouping order before being deployed across the galaxy.
Hopefully this tool helps out anyone interested in writing some fic about this era! If you're reading my time-travel obi-wan fic set in the years following the 7th Battle of Ruusan (linked here and above) then I hope this is a useful reference when I write about the army and population demographics.

Boost Your Online Presence with a WordPress Site
WordPress is a leading content management system (CMS) used by businesses, bloggers, and creators worldwide. With its user-friendly interface, customization options, and extensive plugin library, WordPress enables website owners to create a visually appealing, functional site without needing advanced coding knowledge. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of using a WordPress site and offer tips to enhance its SEO, ensuring you’re on track to increase your online visibility and reach.
Why Choose WordPress for Your Site?
Ease of Use WordPress is designed for all experience levels. Its intuitive dashboard lets users manage content, images, and plugins easily, making it simple to maintain and update. Plus, with thousands of themes and plugins available, users can tailor their site’s appearance and functionality to align with their brand and goals.
Flexibility and Customization WordPress offers a variety of themes and plugins to match any industry or style. Whether you’re launching a portfolio, eCommerce store, or blog, WordPress provides flexible design options. With plugins like WooCommerce, you can turn your WordPress site into an online store. For added customization, many themes support page builders like Elementor and Divi, which enable drag-and-drop editing without coding.
SEO-Friendly Features WordPress is inherently SEO-friendly, offering features such as customizable permalinks, mobile-responsive designs, and support for structured data. Optimizing these elements enhances your site’s discoverability on search engines. WordPress also makes it easy to manage SEO-related tasks, especially when paired with the right plugins.
How to Optimize Your WordPress Site for SEO
To fully leverage WordPress for SEO, follow these essential tips:
Use an SEO Plugin Plugins like Yoast SEO and Rank Math provide comprehensive tools to optimize meta tags, sitemaps, and content readability. They guide you in adding keywords, optimizing images, and creating a structured site map that helps search engines crawl and index your site more efficiently.
Optimize Page Speed Site speed is a crucial ranking factor. Optimize images using plugins like Smush or Imagify to reduce file sizes without compromising quality. Use a caching plugin, such as WP Rocket or W3 Total Cache, to improve load times by storing static versions of your pages. A faster site enhances user experience and ranks better on search engines.
Mobile Responsiveness With mobile searches outpacing desktop, having a mobile-friendly site is essential. Most WordPress themes are designed to be responsive, but always check how your site displays on mobile devices. Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test can help you ensure your site provides a seamless experience on all screens.
Optimize Permalinks and URLs By default, WordPress offers several permalink structures. Choose a structure that includes keywords and is easy to read, such as "Post name." For example, change URLs like “mysite.com/?p=123” to “mysite.com/wordpress-seo-tips” to improve clarity and relevance to search engines.
Use Internal and External Links Internal links guide users through your site, encouraging them to explore more content. They also help search engines understand your site's structure and content relationships. Additionally, linking to authoritative external sources can enhance your site’s credibility. Just ensure these links are relevant to your content.
Regularly Update Content Keeping your content fresh signals to search engines that your site is active and valuable. Update blog posts with recent information, check for broken links, and add new pages when relevant. Regular updates can boost your search engine ranking and engage returning visitors.
Focus on Quality Content Content is a major SEO factor. Create high-quality, valuable content targeting keywords relevant to your audience. Instead of keyword-stuffing, focus on naturally incorporating primary and secondary keywords to maintain readability and relevance.
Conclusion
A well-optimized WordPress site is a powerful tool to boost your online visibility. With easy-to-use plugins and a range of customization options, WordPress makes it simpler to maintain an SEO-friendly site. By following these best practices, you’ll improve search engine rankings, drive organic traffic, and strengthen your online presence. Whether you’re new to WordPress or a seasoned user, these tips will help you get the most out of your site.
