sunrise's current story is very complicated! xe's grappling with the trauma that xyr big sibling and fellow mechanic booming voice quiet temper inflicted upon xem, xyr own body issues (inspired by. my own issues), and the fact that xyr beloved princess of a murderwife (my slugfriend's oc eternal anomaly) is, indeed, a murderer, and all that comes from those horrible things. but rn he is having a vacation nd crying bc his murderwife called him beautiful so i think he'll be okay

24 Days of La Fayette: December 18th - Charles-Albert, comte de Moré de Pontgibaud

Charles-Albert, comte de Moré de Pontgibaud was one of La Fayette’s most “unruly” aide-de-camps and I am not exaggerating when I say that he was most likely the Marquis’ least beloved aide-de-camp.

Pontgibaud was born in 1758 and was one of the few individuals in La Fayette’s military circle that were younger than he was. But youth was not the only thing the two of them had in common – just like La Fayette, Pontgibaud was a bit of a troublesome teenager. While his refusal to follow orders landed La Fayette a spot on the American army pay rolls and a page in the history books, things looked different for the Comte. At the tender age of 16 he was imprisoned for a fierce and violent character, and refusing to do any kind of work. Absolutely lovely, what else could one want from an aide-de-camp?

Pontgibaud escaped prison in the fall of 1777 and he left Nantes on October 11, 1777, bound for America, on the Arc en Ciel. His father, a gentleman of 77 years, was reportedly greatly worried by his son’s escapades. While we have no direct letter from his father, we have letters from a nobleman by the name d’Alagnac (that I could not identify any further) addressed to Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. D’Alagnac wrote to John Adams on May 18, 1778:

Dr. Franklin, sir, to whom I had the honor to write for information about a young man, Chevalier de Pontgibaut, who left Nantes on 11 October 1777 on board the Arc en Ciel with letters of recommendation to Messrs. Conway and Lafayette in the hope of being employed with the troops of the United Colonies of America; has replied that he knows nothing on the matter. Permit me then to turn to you, sir, as you have newly arrived from that country and might have some information on the whereabouts of the Chevalier or the Arc en Ciel and you would greatly oblige me if you would have the goodness to inform me as to the fate of the one or the other. This young man, filled with ardor and eager to achieve glory in the service of such a worthy cause, is very dear to his family and his silence, since his departure, deeply worries his father, Comte de Chalier, a venerable old man of 77. Would it be too much of an imposition on you, sir, to ask you to ease his anxiety by condescending to discover what has become of this young man on the supposition that you have no information at hand. I dare hope for a favorable response to my request, sir, and I have the honor to be with a great respect, sir, your most obedient and humble servant

Let us try to ease the old man’s anxiety and have a look at what happened to his son. Pontgibaud’s ship made it to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. There it was attacked by a British frigate and either run aground or outright sunk. Pontgibaud managed to get ashore where the few belongings he was able to safe from the wreck were stolen. That certainly was not his lucky day. He travelled to the army encampment at Valley Forge and it was there that he met La Fayette for the first time. Since Pontgibaud a letter of introduction for La Fayette and Conway, it is safe to assume that he wished to be employed by one of the two. But I let him tell his story:

I presented myself to him, and told him frankly my whole story. He listened to my history with attention and kindness, and at my request enrolled me as a volunteer. He also wrote to France and before long received a reply confirming the truth of my statements; he then appointed me one of his aides-de-camp, with the rank of Major, and from that moment never ceased to load me with benefits and marks of confidence.

La Fayette wrote himself in a letter to Patrick Henry on January 3, 1778:

Receive, Sir, my sincere thanks for the trouble you have taken in sending me some letters from France. Is it not very uncivil to be importune upon the same matter? But I have heard from a gentleman in Hampton who is reccommanded to me and is just now arrived with a parcel of letters. His vessel has been sunk by some eglish frigate, three men only have escaped, he did not save any thing but a trunk and a bag which, he says, have been braked and plundered a schore. He seems in a great distress. I take the liberty of giving to him some hopes by the inclosed letter that you will be so good as to order some notice to be taken of him. I desire him also to direct his dispatches to your excellency in case you would Give yourself the trouble of sending them to General Washington as you have done for the others.

Pontgibaud’s commission as a Major was approved in February of 1778.

Not much is to be found about Pontgibaud’s early service as a volunteer and later as an aide-de-camp. He was however helpful to La Fayette during the joined efforts of the French fleet and the American troops in Rhode Island. In a letter to La Fayette, d’Estaing tells the Marquis that his aide-de-camp Pontgibaud had helped the French officers in counting and identifying several British ships.

At one point in time, I can not say with certainty when, Pontgibaud returned to France. It is probably that he sailed with La Fayette on the Alliance but even if that had not been the case, both men were in Paris around the same time. La Fayette was the first of the two to return to America and when Pontgibaud followed suit, he carried mail and packets for the Marquis on his person. If there is one thing to know about La Fayette, then that he was very invested in his mail and Pontgibaud appears to not have been up to the Marquis’ standard. Pontgibaud arrived onboard the Alliance on August 16, 1780 in Boston and La Fayette wrote to George Washington on August 28, 1780:

No pontgibault as yet, which Added to our Circumstances of provisions, and our dull prospects of inaction, Makes me feel very uneasy.

He wrote to the Vicomte de Noailles on September 2, 1780:

We are tired of the whole thing, my friend. I have cursed about M. de Pontgibaud so much that I do not know what more to say, and I am stupefied by this miracle of negligence. Eighteen days to come from Boston! The only way to explain the enigma is that Poirey is with him, which I have learned from the gazette (because Poirey has been given full coverage in the papers), and Poirey stops at every wonder he sees here. I cannot tell you how much this delay distresses me. There are a thousand things apart from the public service that I would like to know; but I promise you at least that if I have any news I will not delay in sharing it with you.

He wrote to Prince de Poix on September 3, 1780:

Have you ever seen anything like it, my dear prince, and have I not reason to curse and despair? The Alliance has arrived and brought me letters; I know they are in Boston, and the officer who carries them calmly entertains himself buying horses. Good God, if he did not have my packet in his pocket, how much bad luck I would wish him! This accursed man, M. de Pontgibaud, flanked by M. de La Colombe and friend Poirey, set foot on land almost three weeks ago. He said he had important dispatches to deliver to me, so important that he refused to confide a single letter to an officer of the French army who was returning to Rhode Island, and apparently he thinks they are too important to travel other than by easy stages. Meanwhile I am getting angry, and increasingly so as I see how useless it is.

Finally he wrote to the Chevalier de La Luzerne on September 17, 1780:

M. de Pontgibaud had only one packet for you, delivered by a merchant and entrusted to his care with little sense of urgency; he sent it by the post the day after he arrived, but I reprimanded him for it nonetheless.

While La Fayette at times certainly was unhappy with Pontgibaud, he nevertheless rendered important and valuable service and continued to serve for the entire duration of war, only resigning his position after the Battle of Yorktown. Their wartime service was not the last time that the two men would meet. Pontgibaud attended a “Board of Officers” that met on March 8, 1784 in La Fayette’s house to discuss the claims of several officers to be admitted in the Society of the Cincinnati. In the context of said meeting, La Fayette wrote a list of Names of the American officers wearing now in France the badge of the society of the Cincinnati and Pontgibaud’s name is on that list. Charles-Albert, comte de Moré de Pontgibaud died in 1837.

1. Whose overall narrative feels the most satisfying to you?

I have three different answers. If I take "satisfying" to be doomed from the start haunted catharsis? Hawkeye, obviously. It's incredibly satisfying to see a sitcom without much * turn into a beautiful heart breaking eleven season long mental health spiral.

Then there's Klinger, who has the most satisfying narrative from a meta perspective, seeing a one episode gag turn into a beloved character who begins showing up in the credits and gets a big wedding and farewell.

Then there's Charles and Margaret, who graduate from narrative foils to complex and likeable characters with lots of memorable and :') moments.

2. Whose finale narrative feels the most satisfying to you?

Literally the ones above. Hawkeye and Charles make me both tear up every time and Margaret and Klinger make me go :') with pride to see how far they've come.

3. What's a post-canon headcanon that you have (about anything or anyone)

I think they try to hold at least one other reunion to see each other again with all their families in the same hotel on the anniversary of the party

4. What's a pre-canon headcanon that you have (about anything or anyone)?

I think Trapper and Charles vaguely met in Boston at work (maybe at a conference or maybe their hospitals collaborated on something)

5. Who's a secondary/tertiary character you wish you could have seen more of?

Honoria, Bigelow and Kellye.

6. What's a headcanon you have about a non-main character?

I think Kellye got all of them their Hawaiian shirts (yes I know they were popular at the time and sold in different places but I like the thought that she is their main Hawaiian shirt dealer and I think it's also the only explanation why Charles has one)

7. Who's your single episode MVP?

Inga <3 She said Trans Rights. Shout out also to British UN guy bullying Charles, Brandy Doyle the burlesque icon, Tuttle and Park Sung.

8. Share a headcanon about anything that you don't get the chance to talk about enough

Charles listens to "Songs on the Death of Children" because of his brother :)

9. What's one of your favorite non-romantic dynamics on the show?

Potter and everyone. He's just so dad and grandpa coded and I love how a lot of that was just Harry Morgan being Like That. Potter just adopted an entire camp of weird traumatised kids.

10. What's an underrated dynamic overall on the show?

Klinger and Mulcahy being besties <3 Klinger being the only one attending services and Mulcahy telling people to compliment his gloves lives rent free in my brain. Runner up is Charles and BJ making 2 separate people believe they are seriously sick because they were annoying. Absolute gremlins and they should have worked together more often.

11. What's a moment that was shocking to you?

Just the entire episode George. I was 15 and just figuring out I could be queer and watched an entire episode from the 70s set in the 50s. Really rewired my brain back then.

12. What's a moment that you could analyse forever?

Just about anything in Dreams. Shout out also to the coffee scene in sons and bowlers because everyone needs to have one small line in that episode that makes them foam at the mouth, right?

13. What's a moment that you want to watch over and over?

Movie Tonight. Any moment from that episode. Also just the entire episode. It's one of my feel good episodes and it's just sooooo <3

It's about time I did a post like this. Hi, I'm Charlie, known to my close friends as Charles or Ferre, and I love writing.

I'm a polytechnic student, and am currently studying for my diploma in Story and Content Creation (for media). I am a huge theatre fan, mainly Les Miserables, and I kinda go batshit crazy over Star Wars at times.

Alright, with all the introductions out of the way, I've been thinking about being more active on Tumblr so I'll be opening writing requests to anyone who may be interested. I mainly write Star Wars and Les Mis, you may check me out at archiveofourown.org/users/CharlesAndCo for the works I have published. (I implore you to ignore my Marvel fics...) But before everything, I do have several boundaries when it comes to writing for requests, so please, I hope you'll respect them if you're thinking of requesting for any fics.

I will absolutely not write /reader fics, even gender neutral readers or male readers.

The ships I specialise in are as follows: for Les Mis, Valvert, Enjoltaire, Courfius, Combeferre/Jehan; for Star Wars: Obikin, QuiObi, Anidala. I would not be opposed to exploring other ships, but I will put my foot down if it comes to any ship I am uncomfortable with, which does not happen often but if it does, consider this a warning.

If I have any ongoing WIPs when you request, especially oneshots that are meant to be gifts to my friends, I will not prioritise your request over the works for them. I love my friends to hell and back, the only way to get around this would be to become my friend, I guess.

NSFW is... well, it depends. I may or may not write NSFW depending on how I feel about it. To put it simply, I have had bad experience when it comes to sex, and so sometimes certain things do trigger me and bring back bad memories. So unless you really think that I would enjoy writing the NSFW request you send in, I'd appreciate it if you mainly stick to SFW works. Thanks :)

If I am uncomfortable, due to any reason, with the request you send in, I will probably very politely decline to write your request.

Here’s my take on the Les Mis official posts about the queen’s death

WHY ARE YOU ALL SURPRISED??? They posted when the UK celebrated the Jubilee. They posted about the wedding of Harry and Meghan. They literally performed a concert at Windsor Castle for the Queen years ago!!!! They’ve posted, and done things, in support of the monarchy many times.

Like WTF were you expecting when the show is produced by grumpy, white, old, monarchy-loving British men???? Those men DO NOT CARE that the whole point of Les Mis was being anti-monarchist. Because at the end of the day, they only care about the MONEY that will line their pockets, which is exactly what the Jubilee and the wedding brought them. Money from the thousands of tourists and UK natives who were in the city those two weekends.

These people DO NOT CARE about Victor Hugo’s message when he wrote the book. They do not care about the people that died 190 years ago in attempt to make their country a better place. Just like they don’t care about the thousands of people who have suffered under the British Monarchy’s rule. These people DO NOT CARE because they are greedy MFers, who just want to have more money.

I mean, are we forgetting that this same producer literally called casting trans people in shows a fucking gimmick??? Or closed the original production in favor of the 25th because it would save him money??? Like it’s been proven time and time again that Cam Mack is an asshole, who doesn’t care about anyone other than himself and is more concerned about how he can earn himself more money.

Like yes, call them out on the posts. Remind them what the show is about. But if you don’t think it won’t happen again during Charles’s coronation or even after that, think again because it will.

what i read

information for the female to male crossdresser and transsexual by lou sullivan

i really enjoyed this. interesting look into trans history, and it provides some helpful tips (although others are outdated). i especially enjoyed reading the short bits of information of crossdressers and trans people through history!

2. i am not okay with this by charles forsman

i was unfortunately not a fan of this. i wrote a brief review here. not much else to say... i was really excited for this one

3. i read some more spider-man/deadpool (up to issue 12 now)

still love this series. they're silly. i don't know anything about either character really but that hasn't really mattered lol. they bounce off each other fantastically. can't suggest this series enough

4. red hood: lost days

i am unbearably conflicted on this one. really enjoyed the jason interpretation, he is silly to me, HATED the talia interpretation. they did her SO DIRTY. i want to love it because like. jason. i love him. he's such a badass. but talia, my love!!! she did not deserve this.

5. red hood & the outlaws

i got like six pages into this one and hated what they were doing with jason's backstory and bailed immediately. like i didn't even read enough of red hood & the outlaws to log it on my comic geeks account. i hated it so badly i paid attention to my 8am lecture. might try again later because... the outlaws... my beloveds <3 but urg.

6. fan fiction

i wanted to include specific recommendations (and i will when i do next weeks) but i haven't been keeping very good track of what i'm reading and am still terrible at bookmarking... i read a lot of jaytim in jan and late jan/early feb has been an insane time for reddie. i read morse by WeirdAlterEgo (jaytim), which i really enjoyed, and also read the haunt (posted on anon) on like the second day of january. i've been reading A LOT of reddie, so i might put up a rec list in a bit lol

scream (1996)

i was extremely normal about this movie. promise. my first thought when i finished it was "so uh that was gay", which i think is normal. i think they kind of complete my trifecta. i've got batman/joker, jimmy hopkins/gary smith, and stu macher/billy loomis. they're my silly little three way venn diagram of horrible gay ships. like i think they were kind of the missing piece here. also this movie confirmed to me that i am indeed a homosexual

2. IT & IT chapter 2

rewatched these for the first time since they came out! i am. really normal and cool and awesome and brave about them. also feel really validated that eddie canonically road rages <3

3. IT (1990)

SO NORMAL ABOUT THIS!!!!!! (FALSE!) urg the miniseries is so good i can't even like begin to explain how i feel about this one. the bill/mike content we all deserved.... <3333333 also if i'm remembering correctly mike gets a lot more screentime than he does in the new movies which is good because i adore him. stan is hardly here though which breaks my heart (although when he IS here he is very silly <3)

Sappy Venty Rant about Kay’s Erik (With a special inclusion of my beloved skeleton💕)

As a side note about Susan Key’s Erik, I think he’s gonna be my favourite for a long while unless another Phantom can compete (though I am very much warming up to Charles Dance’s Erik). There’s a specific reason for this though. Besides other iterations kind of making it seem like Phantom doesn’t exist beyond Christine (still love the other iterations) there’s a certain level of personal sympathy I’ve felt for Erik. One of the reasons I love Sans so damn much is cause it’s a similar feeling, and that sympathy breaches me feeling physically similar to that character. I don’t think it’s as far as kinning or the many ways people feel more comfortable as presenting themselves as their beloved characters, but it’s more like slow flashes and little waves of a nice harmless delusion. For Sans it’s more like an emotional similarity, when I feel calm or happy it feels like I’m smiling like him or getting comfy in his bones. I’m not going to let myself be ashamed that it genuinely calms me down when I’m in a panic to just feel him touch my hair or stroke my neck, letting me know I’m safe and that it’ll be okay (and if anyone else feels the same way you shouldn’t be ashamed either). And Kay’s Erik has actually been the first of many of my loved characters to compete with Sans in that regard.

If you don’t already know, I’ve got eczema. And BOY is it bad right now, and has been for a few months. I won’t get into grim gory details, but apart from being a fun reference from vine, it can be seriously costly both emotionally and physically. I’ve literally got scars from it. In my experience it’s not a very well talked about thing, which can be even more frustrating when several occasions I’ve sat by the bath at three in the morning flinching and crying every time I try to wash my fucked up skin. And I’ll be blunt, this shit has made me deeply dysphoric for a long time when literally all I want in terms of body pride is smooth skin and soft hair. I don’t even mind that the eczema makes my skin dark or pale and patchy in places. I consider myself very lucky and grateful that despite being trans there’s only a few occasions I get genuine gender dysphoria or feel like I need to punish myself for looking a certain way. But when everything burns and stings and I’m surrounded by unpleasant reminders of how Human I am and I feel like it’s my fault, I fall into a very deep discomfort that lasts a long time.

I’m not at all going to pretend I understand Erik completely, I don’t have abusive parents, I haven’t been hated or rejected my entire life, and I have people that love me. But there’s been more than one point now that while my skin flares up, I let myself feel calm, and my hands are suddenly thinner and more deft. I can feel the bones beneath my skin, I can hear sweet music even in silence, and there’s a sense of collected pride and comfort that comes with that. Feeling like him makes me feel unafraid to enjoy the dark, enjoy the unapologetic wildness. I’m nowhere near as intense as he was but I much prefer to stay in my safe dark warm hidey hole with my work and my simple pleasures than much else. And still, I can appreciate sunlight and the outside, it’s just I’ve learned that it often comes with taxing uncomfortable situations. Being outside isn’t the problem, it’s the noise, it’s the exhaustion, it’s the feeling alone of people around me that I don’t like. This doesn’t mean I don’t like people, I like my friends and my family, but I still love the quiet isolation after a long day.

When I feel like I’m helplessly clawing at my skin, ruining it further and feeling wretchedly ill with how overwhelming and painful it is, it’s a strange relief to think of Erik at that point. Beauty has never really been something I wanted, but I know it’s not something I can have completely. And I’m not saying that in a ‘oh I’m so ugly, tell me I’m pretty no matter what’ way (so you just don’t have to if you’re planning on telling me that), to me it’s a fact that with my skin like the way it currently is, I won’t feel beautiful or handsome or any other way than numb and uncomfortable. Erik knew that about himself, that he couldn’t strive to be beautiful, but still admired it. The comfort is feeling like he could sympathise with me wanting to have no skin rather than this skin, pretty much.

This can sound as poetic or as dumb as anyone wants it to, but I wanted to post this here maybe just to log this feeling. This is the most personal I’ve gotten online so far I’m fairly sure, but I think it’s still important to share these things sometimes.

(Also if anyone’s worried, I am okay, my skin is not, but I am okay. The itching isn’t really voluntary and kinda just comes with the condition, but I have my plans and my coping mechanisms. I really just wanted to post this in case anyone could help feel validated if they had dysphoria and loved their characters like I love mine)

Wilbur wakes up in a strange city, an extremely colourful one at that. He wonders where he is as he scours it aimlessly, hoping to find at least one person who can tell him where he is. His mind is fixated on trying to figure out where the hell he is, he looks around. the trees were green and it looked like a very well-kept place. He continues to walk for a bit longer before seeing what seems to be a floating city in the distance, Wilbur then walks towards it. Looking around for any clues to where he is as he does.

He walks into the city and asks a resident of it where he happened to be, the resident looked shocked to see him. They had never seen someone like Wilbur before.

"You're in Stratos, well. Lower Stratos to be exact, up above us is higher Stratos. That's where our god is, we don't see him much but he blesses us with things such as food and a place to live," The resident answered Wilbur in a polite tone of voice, a smile spread across their face as they answered the question.
