Transformers Television Shows Ranked
(Top show being the best, bottom being worst)
Tumblr media
Transformers: Animated
Generation 1, but in a more unique setting, in a good way. Great character designs, interesting backstories, & with great voice acting to boot, the show is lightning in a bottle. Animated Blackarachnia is highlight of the show PERIOD
•Favorite episodes: Total Meltdown, Nanosec, Along Came A Spider, Nature Calls, Black Friday, A Bridge Too Close Parts I & II, TransWarped Parts I, II, & III, Predacons Rising, Endgame Part II.
Best character designs: Blackarachnia, Warpath, Oil Slick, Blackout, Omega Supreme, & Lugnut.
Final Rating: A+.
Tumblr media
Transformers: Prime
A BIG, promising show that was unfortunately smoke & mirrors. Having this show connected to the War For Cybertron video games was the biggest mistake Hasbro could make. The connectivity is ridiculously cookie-cutter, & the “stakes” in the show are one-sided. The death of Cliffjumper was nothing but a shocking one-off.
Regardless of this show’s empty promises, there’s plenty to like in this sucker: the character designs, the voice acting, the soundtrack, & you have a show that gives Beast Wars a run for its money.
•Favorite episodes: Masters & Students, Predatory, Sick Mind, Rock Bottom, Partners, T.M.I., Stronger/Faster, Crossfire, Out of The Past, New Recruit, Inside Job, Patch, Regeneration, Rebellion, Thirst, Evolution, & Deadlock.
Best character designs: Arcee, Knouk Out, Smokescreen 2.0, & Optimus Prime 2.0.
Final Rating: A-.
Transformers: Armada
The show that made me a Transformers fan, but dear lord, the conflict of interest behind-the-scenes (animation):
Looking back, I failed to realize just how different Transformers was back then compared to today. The show was unique, & that uniqueness carried through the rest of the Unicron Trilogy, regardless of quality. Suffice to say, I grew up in the right time. Also, the Decepticons had the best drip.
•Favorite Episodes: Past, Past II, Sacrifice, Regeneration, Mars, Crack, Crisis, Miracle, Cramp, & Mortal Combat.
Best character design: Tidal Wave, Starscream, Demolisher, & Megatron.
Final Rating: B+.
Tumblr media
Transformers: Generation 1
The show that started it all. I was first introduced to G1 in 2004 at the age of 9 via toys, & was dumbfounded about it. I didn’t start watching the show until the 2010’s rolled around. I watched all 4 seasons of the show, & here’s my thoughts on it:
•Season 1: plenty of fun moments weighed down by rough animation. Favorite episode: Fire In The Sky.
•Season 2: BEST of the show, with new characters, & nice rotation of characters, old & new, to boot. Better animation than 1st season. Favorite episodes: The Autobot Run, Sea Change, The Girl Who Loved Powerglide, Cosmic Rust, & Starscream’s Brigade.
•Season 3: A baffling drop in quality in more ways than 1. Animation errors out the wazoo, an unappealing sound filter for Transformer voices, the Autobots being reduced to 5-6 characters, Galvatron being a batshit lunatic, & you have a recipe for a checked out audience. Favorite episodes (miraculously): Carnage In C-Minor, Webworld, The Ultimate Weapon, Grimlock’s New Brain, & Call of The Primitives.
•Season 4: For those complaining Hollywood has become lazy with TV production, & has reduced viewership to only a handful of episodes per season, BREAKING NEWS: Hasbro did it WAY before anybody else. For just 3 episodes, this should’ve just been part of the 3rd season. My biggest complaint is the coloring, it was just off. It’s like they put in a cool filter for the animation. Didn’t care for these final 3 episodes.
Overall, I don’t hate this show, it’s just there, y’know?
Best character designs: Astrotrain, Afterburner, Brawl, Warpath, Omega Supreme, Powerglide, & Chromedome.
Final Rating: B.
Tumblr media
Beast Wars: Transformers
Round 2 of the Generation 1 continuity, & 1 that I enjoy at times, but overall don’t care for, mainly because I don’t care for beast modes:
•Season 1: Rough animation, but a good start to a show. My biggest gripe with the show is that there should have been more characters. Favorite episodes: Chain of Command, Power Surge, Gorilla Warfare, Dark Voyage, The Low Road.
•Season 2: An improvement in animation, but overall a forgettable season. Favorite episodes: Code of Hero, Transmutate.
•Season 3: Mildly the same as season 2, the major highlight being Blackarachnia. I don’t care for Megatron’s dragon form. His season 2 character design was perfect. Favorite episodes: Optimal Situation, Changing of The Guard, Feral Scream Parts 1 & 2, Crossing The Rubicon, & Other Victories.
Best character designs: Transmetal Megatron, Blackarachnia & Rattrap, Optimal Optimus Primal
Final Rating: B-.
Tumblr media
Transformers: Cybertron
The final hoorah for the Unicron Trilogy, & what better way to do it than with the BEST intro that Transformers can ask for? Overall, in terms of animation, this show is just noise, but when you pay attention, it has its moments in terms of story, mainly Lori being a spectrum of emotions.
•Favorite Episode: Race.
Best character designs: Ransack, Thunderblast, Vector Prime, & Crumplezone.
Final Rating: C+
Tumblr media
Transformers: Prime Wars
Upon retrospect, this show, which was touted as “Game of Thrones of Transformers”, was a prelude of how THAT show would end up. If you do your research, you’ll understand this show was flung in with the IDW Comics’ 1st Transformers line. You have to fucking do HOMEWORK to get the background of this show. But if you have an open mind, the show is something you’ll want to come back to for the memories. Good character designs, great voice acting, & engaging soundtrack. It’s BETTER than Transformers: The Last Knight. Also, DashieXP as Menasor? Mind Nuked. 🤯
•Favorite episodes: The Fall, The Duel, Homecoming, The Fight Begins, Volcanicus, & Saga’s End.
Best character designs: Computron, Volcanicus, Solus Prime, & Grimlock.
Final Rating: C.
Beast Machines: Transformers
Before Transformers: Robots In Disguise 2015, there was this shit stain. The 3rd, & final round of the Generation 1 continuity.
Awful character designs (Maximals only), horrendously one-sided conflict, & a rinse and repeat of “gO gReEn!” messaging bullshit. Cybertron is a planet made of METAL, not dirt! The only good things about this show are Megatron & the Vehicons, MAYBE even the soundtrack if you go through it the finest toothed comb imaginable. How anybody considers this show their favorite Transformers media is beyond me.
Also, those who said that the Bayformers designs are ugly have crap taste in design.
•Favorite episodes (surprisingly): Master of The House, End of The Line, Spark of Darkness, Endgame Parts I, II, & III.
Best character designs: Thrust, Tankor, & Obsidian.
Final Rating: C-.
Tumblr media
Transformers: Cyberverse
The SpongeBob of Transformers, & NO, that’s not good in the slightest. I kept & open mind with the show, but as the 1st season went by, I slowly realized that this show just wasn’t for me, & season 2, which begins with a time skip from the season 1 finale, all but killed the show for me. Combine the ridiculously loose story connectivity with the questionable plot choices (Slipstream & the Seekers being killed off), and the batshit unrecognizable voice cast, & it’ll leave you scratching your head if this is a different show, cosplaying as Transformers. This show tries to be like Transformers: Animated, but it fails MISERABLY. The only thing this show’s got going for it is the character designs. Also, you don’t EVER hire a person from fucking TikTok to voice Optimus Prime.
To be fair, though, it was satisfying to see Megatron kill off Starscream without saying a word to him. That is the Transformers equivalent of “Once in a Blue Moon”.
Favorite episodes (miraculously): Shadowstriker, Bad Moon Rising, Trials, & The Other One.
Best character designs: Astrotrain, Trypticon, Grimlock, & Megatron X.
Final Rating: D+
Tumblr media
Transformers: War For Cybertron (Netflix)
This show is brand recognition PERIOD
The plot, the tone, the action sequences, & worst of all, the voice acting. These are the reasons why this show is forgettable. But, by the powers that be, it’s strangely rewatchable in some areas, mainly the 2nd half of Siege. But ultimately, this is just Dollar Tree Generation 1, with Beast Wars & Aligned continuity story elements tacked on, & from a lack of story explanation, it doesn’t work. It’s just a poorly executed highlight reel of the Transformers franchise, & that’s it.
If there’s 1 thing, & I mean ONE thing about this show that’s good, it’s the soundtrack. “Ascension” is Steve Jablonsky levels of emotional Transformers music, but that’s the only nice thing I’m going to give it.
The moment that had me fuming was the deaths of Chromia, Red Alert, Jetfire, Scrapface, & the friendly Decepticons. THEY COULD’VE FUCKING TRANSFORMED TO ESCAPE THAT BLAST, & THEY’RE CHOOSING TO FUCKING RUN.
Lastly, was Netflix too fucking cheap to hire normal voice actors?
•Favorite episodes (Somehow): Siege: Episodes 5 & 6, Earthrise: Episodes 3-4, Kingdom: Episodes 4 & 6.
Best character designs: Ultra Magnus, Jetfire, Elita-1, Ironhide, & Starscream.
Final Rating: D.
Transformers: Energon
The redheaded stepchild of the Unicron Trilogy, if not the Transformers franchise. Easily forgettable, but the only thing going for it is the character designs.
•Favorite episode: Farewell Inferno.
Best character designs: Jetfire, Scorponok, Cyclonus, & Optimus Prime.
Final rating: D-.
Tumblr media
Transformers: EarthSpark
I REFUSE to watch this show.
Hasbro & Paramount have decided to go balls to the wall with the political messaging in this show. Case & point: Non-Binary characters, I do not fucking accept that camel shit.
Best character designs: Swindle, Megatron, & Wheeljack.
Rating: F.
Tumblr media
Transformers: Robots In Disguise (2015)
What happened to Hasbro behind-the-scenes? How did we go from Prime to THIS? This show is the final nail in the coffin for the Aligned Continuity, & there’s no excuse for this drop in quality. Yet, by some act of god, there are diamonds in the rough, mainly Thunderhoof, the Stunticons, Windblade & Optimus Prime’s character designs, but that’s all there is.
•Favorite episodes: Ghosts And Impostors, Cover Me, Portals, & Enemy of My Enemy.
Best character designs: Thunderhoof, Motormaster, Starscream, Saberhorn, Windblade, Shadow Raker, Fracture, & Optimus Prime 4.0
Final rating: F-.
I.👏 HAVE.👏 SPOKEN.👏

Finished rewatching Transformers Animated for the first time since it aired and really enjoyed it.
BUT I came to a shocking realization.
The legendary Sari episode that left a huge impact on me as a child didn't exist!
Tumblr media
The episode technically does exist, the Season 3 premiere, Transwarped Part 1.
However the actual episode mostly Decepticon fights about Space Bridges.
While Sari dealing with her true nature is a small part of the episode as the B plot, that was not at all how I remembered it.
I remembered a slow character focused episode about Sari dealing with her identity. Full scenes that don't exist are core memories.
Her running away from her dad AND the Autobots. She gets on a train where she worries surrounding people are judging her for existing.
Tumblr media
Bumblebee finally catches up to Sari where he buys her a vanilla milkshake and they have a whole heart to heart. She slowly starts accepting herself.
Transwarped Part 1 isn't bad, but the version I remember felt so legendary. I can't help but be a little disappointed it barely exists.
Tumblr media
I think when I first saw Transwarped Part 1, Sari's story had such an impact that I forgot the rest of the episode. My brain filled in blanks with false scenes, remembering the tone being like how it made me feel.
But a small part of an episode having such an effect on me for years says a lot about TFA's quality.

The World According to Kris (reverse!au) 3/?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Missed me? Chapter 3 is almost out! Here's a sneak peek!
With two new allies, Noah and the Freedom Racers fly to Peru to find the second half of the transwarp key. Unaware to all of them, they have two stowaways watching them in plain sight.
Stuck in a limbo between life and death, Kris watches his brother and sister-figure Elevate, a nightingale beast machine with a sonic voice and speed, fail to properly grieve his death. In process, he comes to the terrifying realization of who's to blame.
Or
Reverse Roles AU and basically Kris takes Bee’s place in RotB, killed by Scourge trying to steal the transwarp key before being revived, followed by flashbacks on Noah’s and Kris’ life before the crash that sent hundreds of Cybertronians to Earth.
First, Previous
Next (coming soon)
airlena gif is from @skybytes
Ao3 Link Below
“Your singing is very nice. It’s very relaxing.” Airazor whispered bashfully, turning towards that oversized nightingale who shivers her feathers in appreciation and pride, “You wouldn’t imagine it would be able to make tanks explode.”
Elena giggles softly at the compliments, a bit self-conscious by how much damage her sonic screeches actually did. She only used it once or twice but that time, it was out of blind rage. Looking back, it seems so embarrassing. She was never the fight type. That was her father. Regardless, the complement was nice.
“Oh, well thank you. I’m just happy no one was hurt.” Elena huffed, “Well, those who are important.”
Airazor lets out a soft chortle at her jab and turns her entire body to face the nightingale. She takes in her entire figure, never realizing she had a proper look at her new ally and savior. Elena’s figure is slender as much as any nightingale but she seemed to resemble a bluethroat nightingale except with lavender and a dark gray strip below it instead of blue and the orange strip. Her light gray feathers, despite dirty from soot and rubble, glimmer from the actual silver and iron blades layered in between her wings.
On the other hand, Elena has never been so close to a human before. She had only arrived on Earth a few weeks before the Autobots crashed into Earth with her calculations claiming that the transwarp key landed somewhere there millions of years ago. She often stayed out of sight up in the clouds or in caves but this is the first time she had been so up close.
Airazor’s aged face is slightly touched up by makeup and her short hair combed back with a few strands poking over her widow’s peak and hanging over her auburn eyes. Elena also notes that the scientist is thin but not bony. Behind her white lab coat and rolled up jeans, she is most definitely athletic in a way. Elena has seen her remove her coat a few times to clean it, her brown wife-beater tank top showing off her fit biceps. Primus! Stop that Elena!
While Elena tries to look anywhere but the scientist, she notices a shining piece of bronze around Airazor’s neck. Elena points to it with her wing, “What is this symbol?”
Startled out of her thoughts, Airazor looks down at what she’s pointing at. A soft and fond smile stretches across her face looking down at her necklace. She unties it and holds it gently in her palm to show, “It is the Maximal crest. Now, it is all I have left of my people.”
She was a part of a team of warriors from her tribe to protect the first half of the key. They called themselves the Maximals; Friends with the animals and fought like them. They kept the relic far away from their home for fear of people learning of its power and using it for evil. They blended into the crowd, hiding in plain sight but when UniCorp learned of its existence, they killed off her friends and family to obtain it. With Airazor left, the key was left to be protected at the museum she worked at. Looking at the necklace only reminded her of the pain but after so long, Airazor can only be reminded of its beauty.
Elena stared at the little charm, admiring the intricate designs of what appears to be a predator but it appears more brave than dangerous. “It’s beautiful.” Elena muttered in awe as Airazor tied it back around her neck before she gestures to her entire body, bowing slightly with a smirk, “Well, the whole thing is working for you.”
Airazor returns the compliment with a smug yet flushed smile, “You should’ve seen me in my 20s.”
“Oh yeah?” Elena challenges, leaning her beck dangerously close to the scientist’s face, “What you was doing? Turning human heads?”
Regardless of the close proximity, a flushed Airazor doesn’t waver. “Maybe.”
Kris watches the two banter from a far. It was funny watching more humans get along with his loved ones. Seeing his family friend and the kind but scary scientist from the museum joke with each other was sweet, especially since they looked so fond of each other. Kind of reassembled the face Mirage makes at Noah when he isn’t looking.
“Oh my Primus.” Kris loudly chokes at the realization. They like-like them. Mirage and Airazor! Gross!
“So I’m not the only one who sees the chemistry.” Breanna jokes, peering down at the Viper, who’s holding back a gag. That’s his brother! And his almost-sister! Come on!
“Ugh! They love each other!” Kris groans as his metal cheeks turn green, “Now they’re going to be all kissy and shit.”
“Ay! Language.” Kris smiles sheepishly at her mother’s scolding tone. “And they’re only going to be all kissy if Noah and Elena like them back.”
With his head snapped up at the older robot in shock, Kris points at them with a bewildered expression as if he’s pointing out the obvious, “Of course they do! I’m dead, not blind!”
The young Autobot slumps in his seat, watching Airazor slowly fall asleep on Elena’s silver wing to her song and Mirage fidgeting with his cap, his blue eyes flicking up at the sleeping green Challenger every few minutes. As sad as the sight is, it’s comforting for the dead. Not once has Kris has ever seen so much kindness towards his family within the few months they have stayed.
“Noah and Elena never had time for a conjunx. Mom always encouraged him but he was too busy looking for jobs or taking care of me to go searching.” Kris mutters as Breanna swiftly and gracefully sits next to him. When the young robot closes his eyes, he can see the memories of the real Breanna teasing Noah on his way out of the door about finding a conjunx partner soon so she can have Kris all to herself.
“And no one on Eukaris liked Elena. I guess they prefer beast modes who can fight and kill rather than study and sing.” That idea was just plain stupid in Kris’ opinion. She’s the smartest and kindest person she has ever met, with the exception of maybe his brother but he’s more protective and badass than smart and kind.
Then it just hit the Viper; His real mom is all alone. Noah and Kris never liked or even played with the idea of leaving home since there was no real reason to. This trip to Earth was a complete accident and for all Breanna knows, her sons might be dead. Kris looks up at his fake mom, his spark stuttering at the sight of the familiar gentleness in her eyes, realizing that she’ll never see the real ones ever again, “Do you think Breanna would be mad if she found out that I wanted to stay? That Noah has a conjunx on Earth?” Kris asks as he hugs his knees and looks at Noah, who’s now asleep, resting his helm on Elena’s shoulder, who is also sleeping against his shoulder blades.
The fake Breanna was silent for a moment, humming as she thinks before she places a hand on Kris’ shoulder. He painfully looks up and meets Breanna’s blue eyes, “I don’t she’ll be mad one bit.”
The fact that it’s not his actual carrier isn’t as comforting as he wants but as his optics drift to sleep, he pretends that her calming voice is.

Part 1, 2, 3
Captain Janeway discovers the nebula they're about to use to get home to the Alpha Quadrant, aside from being littered with Borg is also a Borg transwarp hub.
Captain Janeway is angry at the subterfuge and calls off the trip back home in order to come up with a plan to destroy the Borg hub. Admiral Janeway is frustrated by what she thinks is her younger self's self-righteous idealism.
I love the things the Admiral reveals that make Captain Janeway reconsider:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Captain Janeway: You got Voyager home, which means I will too. If it takes a few more years then that's--
But Admiral immediately cuts Janeway off:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This stops Captain Janeway cold. Her fight drains from her eyes.
Tumblr media
Admiral Janeways begins to explain:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Janeway looks like someone dropped a bucket of ice water down her head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Admiral Janeway: Chakotay. He'll never be the same after Seven's death, and neither will you.
It's the addition of 'And neither will you.' that sells the shippy lens for me. Stuck in a strange love triangle where both Seven and Chakotay loved Kathryn Janeway, and Kathryn loved both.
They could have been a throuple but the chains of commanding have a stranglehold on Kathryn Janeway.
Tumblr media
Both Janeways take a pause, for the Admiral it's an old wound, losing Seven, and essentially losing Chakotay too. For Captain Janeway, it's a new kind of knife wound.
They also take a beat because Admiral Janeway knows how Captain Janeway truly felt for both. The only one Janeway will admit it to.
Losing Seven is an ever-present wound. But she isn't the only impetus for Admiral Janeway traveling back in time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Leave no man behind." This is one of Janeway's key rules for being Captain.
And to hear that she loses 22 more people under her command on top of everyone else and then Tuvok, her oldest and dearest friend...
Captain Janeway talks to Tuvok about his illness and Tuvok assures her that he is still okay but it's true the only cure he has is in the Alpha Quadrant, meanwhile, Admiral Janeway is attempting to persuade Seven into talking Captain Janeway into stopping her foolish plan destroying the transwarp hub.
Admiral Janeway is not gaining much success because, at this point, Seven of Nine has imbibed Captain Janeway's missions as her own.
The Admiral argues that she knows Seven's real reason why she doesn't want to disobey the Captain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seven fires back with: "My future is insignificant compared to the lives of the people we'd be saving."
Tumblr media
This more than anything is the connective tissue between this Seven and Picard Era!Seven:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Ranging is my job. It's hopeless and pointless and exhausting, and the only thing worse... would be giving up."
And honestly, Seven having this ready on hand to say to Picard tells me this is the same argument she's had with Prime Timeline Picard Era!Janeway... Right before Seven left Earth for Fenris. (This is pre-Firewall novel, circa June 2023).
She's come such a long way from that proud Borg drone, to this Seven of Nine who would do anything to save a life and atone for what she's done.

The other thing that gets about the use of the Borg in Picard season 3 is: Why? Why engage in this silly elaborate Dalek-style shadow strategy, make an alliance with the Changelings, add genetic code to everyone's genome using the transporter, build a transwarp conduit to stick a transmitter in the eye of Jupiter, and kidnap a Very Special Boy to take control of today's youth, all to get revenge on one specific civilization? Why not just...you know? Do the thing that the Borg always do? Find some weak planet, take it over, convert its population into drones, harvest its resources to build more cubes, rince and repeat? Like, okay, maybe you've eaten most of your drones (which...ugh; that's like eating parts of your brain to keep yourself nourished; and obviously you have enough energy to make a transwarp conduit, so,1why?), but it doesn't take *much*. If the planet's primitive enough, you can just send a few drones and snowball from there.
One of the few instances of creativity or lateral thinking ever evinced by the mainline Borg Collective, and it's Dumb.

Picard season 3 has this frustrating reticence to respect anything that's been hinted at in other new star trek series. Yes I'm posting this because I just found out about the Voyager-B.
Like, we hadn't had any time to sit with the A yet. We didn't even know what it looked like.
And yeah, at time of production they couldn't have shown the A even if they wanted to. Like I said, we didn't know what it looked like and it was being rolled out as part of another series.
That's why I used the word "respect" instead of "include". It was such a small detail on a screen, there was no reason for it to be Voyager at all. And I know 17 years is a decent run for a starship; the 1701 was slated for decommissioning when it was 20 years old. But this is more about how the show treats its contemporary material than it is about whether the events it depicts make sense in-universe.
It is a small gripe. It's one little tiny data point, but it is part of a pattern all throughout that season of the show taking every opportunity to toss things that are new and exciting aside to cram in a detail for fans to "ooh" and "ahh" over.
And ooh and ahh I did! It was fun to see the fleet museum and the section 31 store room and the Enterprise D. But I was also aware that the fun came at an expense; it was a complicated thing to feel on my first watch through.
And now that it's behind us that feeling has worn off and what I'm left with is the nagging feeling that I've been robbed of something. What's going on with the synths? That machine life from another dimension, is it still coming for us? As far as its concerned there's still a distress call to answer. Not to mention the two other attacks from AI in both Lower Decks and Prodigy. What about that transwarp conduit that opened at the end of season 2? Is that just a big question mark now? They had one last season to tie these things together in a way that paid off.
Instead season 3 approached Trek like a person who has decided to reload a prior save in their video game because they didn't like how the dialogue options they chose played out.
Also the Seven/Raffi romance getting tabled as hard as it did, after all their relationship development in season 2? Are you shitting me?

Everything to Remember Before Star Trek: Picard Season 3
Image: Paramount Q in part did all this to help tweak a temporal paradox that led to one of Picard’s allies, Dr. Agnes Jurati, joining a reformed Borg Queen in the past to create a less-aggressive collective. This culminated in Borg-Jurati coming to the aid of the Federation when a massive Transwarp Conduit (just like the subspace corridor system the Borg used to advance their cybernetic…

Thoughts as I rewatch Threshold for the Holiday
-Probably funniest start in all of Trek when B’Eleanna goes “You’re Dead” to Tom just sitting there on the floor. Not even looking particularly crashed or anything
-Not sure how i feel about B’Eleanna having to go fetch Biscuits while Neelix wants to learn about the Warp 10 stuff. At least she gives the order to let Neelix learn, so it starts a weird short pattern in this episode of weird sexist things getting slightly redeemed (if that) to seem less bad
-Harry’s calling Warp 10 transwarp but that was mentioned in Star Trek 3. Did Scotty make Warp 10 impossible when he screwed with the Excelsior so the Enterprise could escape? More likely that Excelsior engineers failed but it’s funnier to blame Scotty
-TOM PARIS PAJAMAS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
“This is MY Flight” reminding me of “YOUR new Empire?!”
“Tom Paris is gonna do something important when he grows up” [Cuz his dads an admiral] this is legit compelling. “This is the first time I’ve felt I HAD a life to risk” also really good making me sympathize for him.
-Chakotay seems weirdly solemn/bittersweet when Tom comes back. Headcanoning it’s cuz Warp 10 means he and Maquis are arrested
-Love that sigh Janeway gives after “WAKE UP LIEUTENANT” oh her children
”Well, I’m glad you had a good time” Another funny line from the Doctor, clever since he can’t go anywhere at this time.
-So cute/found family that Tom came back because Voy was looking for him
-ALSO WAIT HE SAW EARTH WHILE HE WAS IN WARP 10. WHAT DID HE SEE. WHAT UPDATES COULD HE GIVE THE CREW. THIS COULD EASILY BE ITS OWN TEN MINUTES OF THE EPISODE HOLY SHIT
“Before I hand him back to the realm of ordinary humans” Why’d they make the Doctor so funny in this episode specifically I’m not complaining but lol
“It could change the very nature of our existence” Ngl kinda wish the episode had focused on that more but in a not lizard way
“He’s allergic to water” If this is supposed to be step 1 of the evolution then maybe I’m a water purist but how the fuck does that benefit? I guess not needing sustenance in Space but then the lizards go to a planet so what the fuck
“Torres doesn’t cry” Thomas Eugene Paris how would you know that. Headcanon is he and Harry cried all the time while working on the Warp 10 and B’Eleanna didn’t shed a tear
“I don’t trust people who don’t cry” Legit interesting mental health thing for Trek imo
“My father, he’d say crying is a sign of weakness. I never believed that.” I like what the writers were going for here but I kinda don’t like that idea in utopian Earth but I’m just gonna go with interpretation of this one specific guy believing crying weak and honestly it’s not like anything else in the episode says the no emotion patriarchy is still active
“What I remember most about being a kid was the time I’d spend in my room crying. It was a nice room though” Fitting in TOS maybe but oh god whyyyyyy noooooo I get his father’s an asshole but I don’t want that for Tom
“I’ll note [where/when you lost your virginity] in your medical file” and “PEPPERONI. GOD I COULD GO FOR A PEPPERONI PIZZA WITH KTARIAN OLIVES RIGHT NOW I’M STAARRVING” come right after Paris’ spiel about being depressed AF as a child
-His (temporary) dying wish is that his dad knows he finally did something great
-I know Jonas’ scene is supposed to be a continuity thing with the rest of the season (which yes plz for Voyager imo) but it would be interesting if the Kazon attacked Voyager for Warp 10. Probably be stupid but oh well
-Coulda been funny to mention some sort of random alien that would find Paris attractive in one of his transitional lizard states
“Part of you will be glad to see me gone. I’m the Maquis traitor who sits on the bridge and insults your uniform, remember?” Holy shit is that how Tom sees himself
-This line starts out with horrid energy with “You’re jealous I broke the barrier” then ends worryingly for a different reason with “You’re hoping I’ll die!”
“You seem so small/insignificant” followed right up by him taking out his tongue. This episode really just switches moods on a dime
“I am more. I’m everything!” for an objectively good episode they ought to have gone about this angle. Also “the past and present are in the future & the future is in the past” is peak ‘I wanna sound smart by reversing’
-Love how unrecognizable lizard tom looks as theyre about to do the procedure thing
“I look forward to reading it” legit love Tuvok being funny here
“It’s not other’s opinions of myself I should be worried about It’s mine” Kinda like that line I guess
-Actually disgusting how the episode was written with Lizard Tom kidnapping Janeway and off-screen probably raping her to have the babies and then when Kate Mulgrew complained the change is “Maybe the female initiated it” like that’s supposed to make it better?! Frankly implying it’s the woman’s fault and also suggesting it’s okay that Tom was raped instead of her?! What the fuck all around they just shouldn’t have written it that way
Despite some problematic stuff and interesting concepts I wish were in a better episode, Happy Threshold Day, everybody. What a hilarious classic. And surprisingly fascinating insight into Tom Paris as a character

Rememberd Miraculous Ladybug's "Kwami Swap" AUs, and I suddenly had the thought of SNAP having it's own "Relic Swap" AU.
you're in luck, because there's two entire episodes about something very similar! (it's not an entire AU, although that would be cool and already makes me have Ideas)
the mid season 3 "two part special" of 10: A Race Against Time! An Upgrade to Relics and 11: Share the Load! An Upgrade to Ultra Magnus is a big mess of accidentally swapped relics, thanks to a transwarp energy accident when Cyclonus and Cheetor go head to head. everybody's relics get shuffled around, which means they all get new designs, which i haven't finished drawing :')
it's not permanent, thankfully, as due to the selfish nature of relics they wouldn't survive swapping while still bonded for much longer. they also have no desire to unbond their relics to exchange them, and it probably hasn't even occurred to some of them that unbonding is possible. lucky for them there's a certain loadbearer around, capable of shouldering the burden of so many relics to sort out this snafu
in the realm of actual AUs though, there are alternate timelines that Skywarp sees/gets thrown into on accident sometimes, or some like the SG universe that get pulled into theirs entirely. i haven't made any actual swapped relic timelines, but there are similarities. one of these i call the inheritance timeline, because the original heroes die in the line of duty, and their relatives take up their relics to become the next heroes. another timeline has Swerve becoming Soundwave. and so on, etc. so it's entirely possible!

I’ve decided to rip the Slayers season 1-3 dvd set once tfa is done so i’m starting my notes for the title/chapter locations and holy shit these episode titles are LONG. i’m abbreviating them. season one was easiest bc they had that alphabet theme going with each episode name:
Tumblr media
i really loved that, i wish they’d used it in future seasons but NEXT & TRY are just....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my bad wrist can’t handle that much writing lmao. abbreviating to the first three words and/or whatever’s before the ! or ? in the titles if present.
(looks like they used the alphabet episode naming theme in REVOLUTION but didn’t continue it into EVOLUTION-R which is lame. i never really got into or even finished those seasons made in the 2000s tbh)
I’m expecting that the picture quality won’t be as much a problem as it was with the Slayers The Motion Picture dvd from 1999 since this is the Funimation release from 2009 (i think) and I don’t recall it looking bad when watching on the dvd player in the past.
anyways Transformers Animated season 3 disc 1 is ripping now, this one’s’ probably going to take longer bc there’s 3 episodes with commentary (all 3 parts of "TransWarped”) and of course if there’s more errors/fails/resets necessary so if i’m lucky/manage my time decently i may be able to get to season 3 disc 2 today and finish with the whole series so i can move on to Slayers but we’ll see. and also last night when the last episode of season 2 had almost finished ripping, my drive randomly ejected the disc (like it did once with Turn A) so i had to reset and stayed up a bit later than i would’ve liked to making sure it finished properly lmao

Sari and the Key
Hey, I've been rewatching Transformers Animated recently and one thing that's bugging me is the lack of distinction on what the key can do and how it seems to react appropriately depending on the situation for plot convenience.
Ability 1: Fixing
Probably the most memorable. It was used three times in the series pilot Transform and Roll Out, fixing up Prowl, Bumblebee, and later bringing Optimus essentially back from the dead (with the help of the AllSpark itself).
This ability is used numerous times throughout the series, probably more than any other one of the key's ability. Given that it was empowered by the AllSpark, its no surprise the key is able to fix damage, whether it's mild or severe.
Ability 2: Upgrading
The second most used ability is probably upgrading man made machinery. Again, not bashing the idea of the key being able to do this since it was empowered by the AllSpark. Things that have been upgraded by the key range from Soundwave himself to Bulkhead's sculpture in Headmaster.
(Personally I wish there was more distinction to this, since Soundwave became self aware "due to the last surge from the key." I suppose it means there's a spectrum of autonomy for man made bots that the key can continue upgrading into self awareness, but I digress).
Ability 3: Overloading
Again, with the AllSpark having no limitations to it's power, it makes sense that the key might be able to overload technology. Examples include overloading Swindle's time device in SUV, and Transwarped part 3 when Sari overloaded her own circuitry.
Ability 4: Detecting AllSpark Fragments
This one is self explanatory. While it probably didn't need to exist since the bots are shown to be able to detect fragments due to their massive power signatures, it still feels reasonable. Although, occasionally, the writing flips the script and says the key can attract the fragments to an extent, if close enough (shown in Mission Accomplished).
Where it gets tricky:
With four abilities (and those are the main ones, there might be more) it can be tricky finding a way to distinguish how the key will react in certain situations. As far as I can tell, its reaction is based solely on plot convenience.
What bugs me is that it seems Sari (and indeed, anyone who uses the key, but since Sari is the keeper, mainly her) knows how to use it specifically to fix vs overload, etc.
I understand the writers had limitations but one of the reasons Sari might be classified as "over powered" by the fandom is simply because of the lack of distinctions to her (and her Key's) abilities.
(This is definitely open for discussion if anyone has anything to add!)

Megatrons rated by the level of dumbass
[updated to include Siege]
Smartest to dumbest, say GO! (Note: Does not include IDW and Unicron Trilogy)
Transformers Animated
The least dumb Megatron of them all, a friggin mastermind who doesn’t need brute force to get what he wants, he only needs his smart mouth! ~
Just knows what to say at all times to manipulate the people around him, what an icon :D
And unlike most versions of the character, he doesn’t suffer from “Gay for Optimus” syndrome :3
Prime Wars Trilogy
To prove my point that he is smart, here is a video proof.
Apart from that he’s a pretty tactical guy with lots of experience! And he also has a smart mouth, but he likes to use it to insult and annoy :D
Only reason I deemed him dumber than TFA Megs is that he doesn’t have a scheme in this show as he is not the villain. Also he does have Gay for Optimus-Syndrome.
Siege
Boy does not have Gay-for-Optimus syndrome, thats nice. For the most part of the season he doesn’t actually do anything dumb, it’s just every decision he makes ends badly for him.
Inprisoning Magnus? Magnus spies on him and tells Oppy his plans
Setting up a fool-proof trap for the autobots? His decepticons fail really damn hard.
Killing Magnus? Releases the Alpha Trion protocols, making sure the autobots can get the AllSpark.
Nothing happens in his favour, re-watching the show and only watching his scenes makes me sad x’D
It remains to be seen how his decision to release that virus will effect Cybertron...
Beast Machines
One damn angsty emo, he has no time to fuck around and do stupid shit, which makes him appear less dumb. Still a little dumb though, for using the sparks of former good guys for his goons and be surprised when they turn against him. Also he has fashion no sense
Beast Wars
Now we get to the dumber ones! And while BW Megatron is a damn genius criminal mastermind, one cannot forget the level of dumbass he had in season 1! I credit those moments of him just having not much experience as a leader in this kind of war, but still - the dumbass is still there, sadly u_u
G1
This Megatron is equal part genius and equal part dumbass. Do most of his plans fail? Yes. Are they fucking insane and creative? Also yes.
No true dumbass could come up with his variety of evil schemes, we all gotta appreciate that -v-
Transformers Prime
He has the biggest and strongest Gay for Optimus-Syndrome, and it makes him dumb all the time! His saving grace is the his huge level of intimidation, power and chemistry skills, or else you’d actually notice the fact that he sends his only medic to do fighting all the time and even threatened to keep him locked in a wall. Or making Airachnid his second-in-command. Or never bothering to look for Starscream, when he explicitely was under the impression that he was kidnapped by the autobots.
And the dumbest thing - not killing Optimus Prime when the dude lost his memory! Come on Megatron, get your feels under control!
Robots in Disguise 2001
If he were nice he’d a himbo, but as he is he’s just a jock who has no idea what he’s doing. He’s on earth because he heard there would be some awesome source of power, but has no clue what exactly it is.
He tries really hard to be intimidating in front of the humans and gets flustered when he fails, awww.
Smartest thing he did is stealing the Protoforms of the decepticons, that was a nice move :D ~ But apart from that he just vibes around hoping the plot gets moving soon
Beast Wars II
Megastorm can’t do math, and he can’t keep his act together. So dumb that Galvatron feels ashamed of him :(
But he gets a little bonus point for the times he managed to knock Galvatron out, and another bonus point for doing it in my favourite way - the good old Tekken-style throwing your family member into a volcano trick :D
Cyberverse
Did this guy EVER come up with his own plan? For anything? NO! No scheming, no insane plans, no tactics, NOTHING!
Nothing he ever did was his own idea. Not the plans to destroy earth, not the trick with faking the space-bridge’s destruction, wasn’t even his idea to use the transwarp teleporter to travel to other dimensions!
Use your processor, you dumb slut!
He’s also the perfect example of why Gay for Optimus-Syndrome is so horrible to have, as the other Megatron proves to be quiet effective without it.
