I can't believe I still have to see posts about how much better ROP would be if Celebrían was the lead vs. Galadriel. As someone who has Tolkien Brainrot, I understand the appeal, I really, really do. As someone who has had to interact with so many people who either do not care about Tolkien Lore but are interested in fantasy television shows or are Jackson film fans first/foremost/only, y'all. Galadriel is a known character and a decent intro to lesser known characters.

Hate to break it to y'all but Celebrían is OBSCURE. I'm pretty confident in saying that if you get outside of Tolkien Fandom online circles, you could tell people that Elrond was married to Galadriel's daughter and the response you would get would be, "oh, I didn't realize that" because it's touched so lightly in the films. Celebrían isn't even MENTIONED by name. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure if anyone mentions that Galadriel and Arwen are related at all!

My point is the show is meant to appeal to more people than us over here with Tolkien Brainrot!!!!!! I love Celebrían, but Galadriel was an easier sell to the potential of a wider audience as a lead. For a show that needs to go through so much lore very quickly, having Galadriel as the lead because she's 1) female [the overwhelming amount of male characters vs. female characters in the Legendarium is another post], 2) relatively familiar, and 3) has a set characterization to lead toward for an arc vs. her barely-even-mentioned-in-LotR daughter is a no-brainer.

Just in case anyone was wondering about what their journey could look like, here's a timeline of mine, hope it helps.

Original referral from GP to GIC: 2019

1st appointment with East of England Clinic: 2022

I had 3 or 4 appointments with the clinic. 1st two were to confirm that I am indeed trans and next one/two were to talk about top surgery more specifically. (I said from the start my main goal is TS and I wanted this before anything else, including hormones. There was no backlash from them about this.)

I was sent a list of surgeons and I chose my preferred surgeon: April 2023, Mr Andrew Mellington

I received a letter saying the referral to Mellington had been sent August 2023

Received a call from Mellington's team to book a consultation with him: early January 2024

Consultation: Late February 2024

I have just received confirmation that TS date is to be discussed/offered 4 weeks after consultation (originally I thought it would be up to 2 weeks after consult). So I've got another 2 weeks to go to find out when the date of the surgery might actually be!

Excited and nervous. 5 years of waiting and it's now real.

OHH i love twin snakes [mgs2 alternate take]

Ive mentioned it before but real quickly the main gist of it is the 'terrorist leader solid snake' is. actually solid snake & not solidus (and also liquid is there because i like him. he and liquid have the worlds funnest dynamic and it only exist in hayter and clarke's christmas specials) and what this basically does is put dead cell in the roll of protagonists AND i dont know how or why but it like. just has the pieces fall into place real nicely real easily for me. Kind of puts solidus in the position old snake is in 4 and using the power suit to try and keep up. Fortune is the leader of deadcell in original mgs2 so we kind of see a passing of baton in ts. deadcell is just super fun in this in general imagine for a second if you will fatman on the protagonist side its SUPER fun

An anon asked for a tutorial on how I make gifs, so here we go! 

I believe that everyone with a decent computer can learn how to make gifs. 

The programs I use are 

Vapoursynth

Photoshop

Topaz denoise (a lot of people don’t use this) 

This is the gif I will be making in this tutorial!

Step 1. Find what you want to gif! 

Download the video you want to gif in the best quality you can find. This is where ts files are really good! Personally I don’t really mind giffing only 1080p videos, but better the quality, better the gif! 

Step 2. Crop it using vapoursynth! 

Using vapoursynth is a whole tutorial in itself. You can still make gifs without vapoursynth (or avisynth as some people use). You can just crop the gif in photoshop to the size you want. Vapoursynth is just good at doing so without losing a lot of the quality! 

The width for tumblr posts are 540px (one gif), 268px (two gifs) and 177px for the outer gifs and 178px for the middle gif, when making three gifs!

This site has everything you need for vapoursynth!

I don’t really have any set settings. I switch it up a lot, but these are my settings for this gif!

Step 3. Import gif to photoshop!

(My photoshop is in Danish, but it should be the same place in any other language). 

You do this by going files > import > video frames to layers 

Then you choose the video you got from vapoursynth (if you didn’t use vapoursynth, you just choose the part of your original video you wanted!) 

Now we have a basic gif!

Step 4. Colouring! 

Now the fun part comes! We colour the gif! This is where your gif truly becomes your gif! Every content creator has their own style of colouring and it really just takes time to find what you really like! Just do whatever you like! 

These are the ones you use for colouring! Just play around!

Here we have the gif with colour! I’m not going to do a colouring tutorial, because colouring is really just up to the person making the gif! 

These are the adjustments I’ve used on this!

Here are some of my psds (tho I always make a new one every time I do a gifset)! I feel like there’s a lot to learn through looking at other people’s psds! Just have fun with it! 

Step 5. Sharpen (and topaz) 

I more or less always sharpen the same way on every gif (depending on how sharp it already is). 

To sharpen you have to make sure you’re working as a smart object! You have to make the frame animation into a timeline and the layerss into a smart object!

Timeline:

Smart object: Select all layers > filter > convert to smart

(or select all layers > right click > convert to smart)

It has to look like this 

To sharpen you go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen 

These are my settings: 

Then I go to topaz denoise! I don’t really have any set settings for this, I just do whatever feels right in the moment. Topaz denoise is also a whole other thing, but it’s easy once you figure it out! I made a video on how to use Topaz here (to help someone who asked)

Because I don’t like my gifs way too sharp, I always add a blur at 20-30% opasity! 

Step 6. Save the gif!

Before saving the gif, make sure everything is as you want it to be! You also have to remember to set the frame delay! I usually go for 0.05 or 0.06!

To save go to files > export > save for web

My colouring has changed a lot since then tho! I also didn’t sharpen and use topaz in photoshop (I used a lot in vapoursynth)

so! it's gonna be fun rereading this now that i have a lot more knowledge about what on earth is going on so as i think i mentioned originally this one is written in a much more experimental style, sometimes it worked! A lot of the time…it didn't but i do remember this one being very much a "disaster movie" type of thing and also partially found footage maybe? I'm not going to post as much about it since it's, well, not as brainworm inducing but this is some very fun horror in the opening

it goes into a bit of detail about their deaths in a successfully horrifying way and I like it, I really feel like this whole sequence does a great job of setting the tone for the book which is, this very kind of organized way of looking at the world that Guilliman and the Ultramarines have, the regular kind of disaster and evaluation etc and then also there's these horrible unknowable things (daemons) that have invaded this world as part of the disaster

so, something i find funny is that consistently the Ultramarines are shooketh because the idea of Space Marines fighting each other is inconceivable to them "the idea is nonsense" "there is no tactical precedent" this is a repeated element and meanwhile over in A Thousand Sons, the SW and the TS are like thiiiis close to attacking each other the whole time and iirc there is some violence done lol not to mention the uh historical precedent of purging two legions

…man, i didn't get it the first time, but i'm eyes emoji that guilliman has under the table freedom of religion in ultramar Old Person Oll Persson is openly a Catheric and goes to a chapel with some of his neighbours and the worst he gets is some of his other neighbours in the area laughing at him (edited) and the chapel isn't a secret or anything hm. you know, logically, given that the nascent imperial faith is able to create miracles you'd think there'd have been more miracles popping up in the face of the great crusade you're trying to stamp out religions. that's literally the kind of situation that creates martyrs.

also, you're telling me there were zero societies doing daemon worship that decided to summon them in the course of the conquest? well they could try to push it under the rug like the whole samus incident but it's not so much the effect on the space marines and imperium I'm thinking about, but on the people being conquered. I respect that Warhammer40k is 100% aesthetic first, making sense second, but also I think you COULD very much keep the aesthetic while still having things make more sense like having a whole bunch of different empires and independent entities you could up the despair by having everyone embroiled in wars with each other as much as they're fighting Chaos

or people who genuinely think Chaos is the better of two evils to ally with against the Imperium i think also this would work really well for guilliman's return because he totally would see it as a priority to reconquer all the worlds from the great crusade

oh hey look at that it's the future doctrine of the imperium

you know, given the codex and reverence with which guilliman's writings are held you know i'm pretty sure he is the base for 40k imperial doctrine he's appalled by it but at its root, it's this he keeps walking the exact same steps as the emperor his primary objection is "you're making the wrong sacrifices" and he is unable to step out of the paradigm just like the emperor nothing he builds will outlast him, and also depends on him making the correct decision 100% of the time

Ah thank you for answering my costume question! Now reflecting on it further, I hold my opinion (never noticed the gradient, love that!). But I appreciate your comments on dress versus costume. I think now having thought more analytically, I wish the packaging had been more consistent. All of the Seasons looks were so different. I just adored the green dress with the hair down because it was so pretty. But was it a great packaged costume? I prefer the soft pink leaning into ballerina look for the program.

Maybe I’m not content with the packaging for IE Olys because I don’t love T with the high bun either. I love love love her MR bun. So I don’t know. I just think that the IE Olys pink dress looks…cheap? Overall packaging not great - for the whole season - but anyways would so love to hear others’ opinions and really appreciate yours!

No worries. I definitely agree with you the packaging was inconsistent. My fave look by far that season was the first pink dress from SCI with Scott in the deep red shirt and velvet pants 😌. It definitely leaned into the ballerina look in more of a modern, storyless Romeo and Juliet vibe where as the olys was more traditional classical. Me personally being a ballet dancer I really appreciate the classical look because so often in skating you get really bad takes on ballet music and costumes and with TS they just look and dance the part- it’s the only non- offensive balletic skating I’ve ever seen (*other then Yuna [in general] and Sasha cohen’s white swan). Also remember in that interview with that little bitch from the Skating lesson, that they were encouraged to choose a russian composer for that oly season so I definitely feel their oly looks took that russian imperial inspiration.

Personally out of the two oly looks I prefer the ‘egg’ dress one. Mainly because it reminds of these costumes from my favourite ballet- a production of nutcracker by a choreographer called Graeme Murphy. It’s is a production that was created (and I believe only performed) by my home company the Australian Ballet, where all the original music is used but the story changed to be this biographical telling of Clara’s life as a ballerina in Russia- this costume is from the part in the story where Clara is dancing a performance as part of the Imperial russian ballet company- timeline wise in I think the 1930’s (like a performance within a performance)

so yeh for me it reminds me of that so personally I love it but for people without that connection the overall seasons packaging was frantic and I kinda think that’s reflective of the situation that season as a whole that they were just trying to get to the top and beat DW. Not really sure of the right direction.

I really like her hair down and the MR bun as well. Like I said with the dresses I like them differently standing still as a design to what I do moving and I feel the same way about the high bun. Really she’s just stunning either way so I can’t complain 😄🥰

Hi!! I found myself in your tutorial tag (lovely gifs btw 💕!) and saw you use a variation of the video timeline/trimming method for your gifs and wondered if you posted a tutorial for that? Would love to see your method!! If that’s okay 😭💕

hey anon! i didn't post anything about that but it's super easy, let me show you.

first you have to have your video clip obviously, photoshop can open clips in these formats: .mp4, .mov, .avi, .ts (but only if they are encoded in h264).

if your video is .mkv (like most things film are if they are good quality) then you'll have to convert your clip to the formats i mentioned. I use avidemux when i have to do that, .mp4 is the easiest one.

okay with that out of the way, we're going to open things in photoshop. i'll be showing you with a clip in .mov i used to make gifs for my kpop blog:

we go file -> open and we search for our video file and then click on open it, we wait until photoshop loads it. Once it does you'll have your photoshop looking like this with your video loaded

in this part i usually move the red line to where i want my gif to start hit right click and click on set start of work area and to where i want it to end and do right click again and click on set end of work area or just simply dragging the thingys at the top of the timeline

i usually do this with long scenes so i don't have to trim a clip into several ones before opening photoshop, what i do is duplicate the canvas going image -> duplicate and do the same process but on a different timestamp

(note: this also works if you open screencaps going file -> open and clicking on one sceencap and then checking on the image sequence box, it'll open as if your sceencaps are a 'video')

duplicating the canvas will make your tabs look like this, it'll say copy and that's bc we're just editing the same thing in two different tabs

see, using the same video gif one is trimmed like this on the timeline

and gif two (from the same video) is trimmed like this on the timeline

okay, now scenes are picked and trimmed to where we want them. now we crop it to whatever we want it to be sized. if photoshop gives you a warning that it'll have to be converted to smart object to proceed you click yes on that!!

okay we have our smart object, but if you notice it's inside a folder called 'video group' drag it out of there and then you can just delete the folder so it doesn't bother

here i like to duplicate my smart object bc when i trim a white line shows in the borders and it bothers me, so i duplicate it going layer -> duplicate layer, and then select all layers and convert again to smart object.

now here is basically the same process with any gif tutorial, if you gif only using timeline you can sharpen and start coloring and then save, using a video here when working on timeline works very well bc more often than not it'll have the original timeframe already set.

if you work with frames, you'll have to do the whole process of flattening everything to frames after you sharpen and then do the coloring (or you can sharpen and color and convert everything to smart object and then flatten everything to frames)

i use an action for this bc i can't be assed to do everything manually, so i recommend having a sharpen process action ready to go
