Pontavène terrain map

I've been wanting to start a new custom hood for a while now and finally got around to making my very first SC4 terrain!
It's a medium sized map vaguely inspired by the French Alps with a river fork separating the town center from the residential area. I kept most of it very flat for easy lot placement and building and after many painful attempts managed to fit in a small riverside area where you can place a couple of beach lots. I wanted it to have mountains, a river, and be mostly flat to boot, and decided to share in case anyone was looking for a similar thing :)

a very flat, small town map with a nice coastline!
I spent my formative years - ages 8 through 18 - in a place called Spring Hill, Florida. At that time it was just a "place" ...not yet incorporated into a town - still with dirt roads if you veered too far off from the main boulevard. It had one school, one small grocery, and one gas station with a convenience store - oh, thank Heaven! The whole development was designed as a "retirement" community, meant to entice New Yorkers to buy their Florida-dream-opportunity sight unseen, and move down to the land of eternal sunshine. (And many did!)
In my angsty teenage years I was fond of calling it 'Sprung Hell' - with a HUGE eyeroll. 😩 I couldn't wait to move out and go off to Uni, some place far, far away.

TrekBuks Bookcase from Apartment Life, remapped and recolored!
All this talking about books and bookcases got me looking for books not yet recolored and I realised this bookcase was being chronically ignored by everyone which makes sense, I mean, it is more bookcase than books. It's a typical bookcase for people who don't read.😄
But it looks pretty and it is actually pretty easy to recolor, so:
I remapped and repositoried the books to the Cinderbooks Bookcase so I didn't have to recolor books again. Which would have been a lot quicker in hindsight but who cares at this point, what has been done is done.🤡 This means that if you have my Cinderbooks Bookcase recolors I did earlier, the new textures will fit prettily on this bookcase as well. The red bookcase on the first picture shows the new Cinderbooks Bookcase Maxis textures. If you need more, these ones from plasticbox will work too. If you don't want to see the Maxis texture at all, Vickie has you covered with her defaults.
Important! My file (LotteTrekBuksBookcaseUVMapEdit.package) will conflict with CEP if you have it. That is why my file should load after the _EnableColorOptionsGMND.package that you placed in the downloads folder for CEP. I don't remember exactly where CEP puts that file but one way to make sure my file does not conflict is to put it in a folder lower than the one for _EnableColorOptionsGMND.package. For example; put that file in a folder named A and my file in a folder named B and it will load after it.
I've also made recolors in the usual Cluedo Woods and Colors. I liked both white and black metal for the rods so all recolors come with both versions (the one with 1 behind the name are white rods and 2 are the black rods). I have also included a file to replace the four default options if you so wish (see last picture to see which replaces which).

Can't stop thinking about clocks apparently... 🥰
I found this while perusing models-resource for something to convert and thought it seemed fun. It's an alarm clock from a game called The Stretchers, which seems like a paramedic version of Overcooked.
This will function as an alarm clock in most ways, except your Sims can't break it as I was too lazy to model a broken state. They can still try, though! Speaking of model, this thing has 3,300 polys. That is very high for an object of this size. I didn't check until I was far enough along that I didn't want to throw it out. :( The texture sizes are really small, though!
Found in Small Electronics with the other alarm clocks and costs §70 which is quite a bit higher than the one I cloned it from, but I figured it's overpriced like any other novelty item. And it is unbreakable.

Alright, so the other day I may have stumbled upon something pretty interesting:
The existing documentation on TXMT animation is inaccurate and has been so for 15 years
I will make a post going into way more detail with good examples, but for now, have the "not replicable" (according to Exploring the TXMT by Pixelhate) perfectly centered txmt rotation, successfully replicated on another object and texture:

omg show off your historic ts4 game plsss. i always wanna get into that but it seems like so much work
yeah it's a huge pain in the ass, so I never go all in like some people do. I really want to try doing something more 'medieval' and involved, but I know I'd be pissed off by the game's built in unavoidable modern features so for now I just stick to more recent decades lol. I also don't spend a lot of time renovating a whole neighbourhood, I mostly just stick to one household and whenever any sim from the outside comes near I kidnap them, give them a period-fitting makeover & set them out into the wild again.
I just started this new save so I don't have much to show for now; I'm doing a somewhat 70s play-through (anachronisms permitted because finding good CC for this period is impossible), with a big multigenerational family. Currently though we've only got a guy who keeps remarrying, his fourth wife who hates him, their six children, and all of their interpersonal drama.
Here's their house. It's been renovated and added to a few times over the years, but a lot of old bits remain (ignore that unfinished side I just noticed it lmaoo). I even got a custom picture of the ancestral sickos up in the living room.

The fourth wife, Sylvia, when she was younger (she married very young, which she regrets now) and newly moved in, and then after she had her second set of twins, poor woman.

The first set of twins of hers when they were young & then as teens, Yasmin and Danny. They used to b close but then grew apart when Dan started dating the gorl Yasmin is secretly in love with :^)
Mostly I just let everyone do what they will autonomously and sometimes intervene for more drama, but it's still early so nothing wild has happened yet (besides grandma dying in the livingroom).

A little bit of time travel to the late 15th/early 16th century to test out something I've unaccountably become obsessed with working on. The basegame magazines are so confusing! Names carried over from TS1 interests and only occasionally intersecting with the TS2 interests, two different covers for "Rat Race," totally baffling mapping... I though I might have figured it out but I replaced the wrong textures for Rat Race (you can see a bit of it in the third pic) and clearly I hecked up the interior pages somehow.

Understanding UV Mapping - How Map Projections Work.

Back to Geography with this one; I've seen in some places people say they don't like/understand UV Mapping or unwrapping. Well, I love mapping and had this video saved, It's short and light and explains very clearly how projections work. It helped me catch up on the issue. Unwrapping from what I understand, is basically the first part in the video where the guy is fighting the globe.
