GOOD OMENS SEASON TWO SPOILERS

Ok I’m gonna be deeply ranting and analyzing the kiss scene (mostly just the kiss itself) because OH MY GOSH THERES SO MUCH TOO IT

First of all here’s a gif of it:

And also I don't have a gif of it but when Crowley releases Aziraphale, what struck me was that he didn’t make them burst apart he gently and almost sadly just stepped back. And then watched. Now. One of the biggest things I’ve been thinking about in this (because I’ve been obsessively watching it over and over) is how Crowley is kissing him. It’s a long kiss. It’s not sensual. It’s not eating each others faces. It’s intimate and very romantic. Crowley missed Aziraphales lips by a hair and is slightly kissing his chin. Crowley holds him there as they sway back and forth slightly. I can’t see if his eyes are open or not. But the thing that strikes me about this is how much all of Crowley’s body language and everything just scream about how much he doesn’t want to move. He finally kissed his angel and he wants to stay pressed up against him, finally locked in the embrace he didn’t realize he needed for so long. He just stays there. He doesn’t kiss deeper. He just stays pressed against him, not wanting to deal with how Aziraphale will look at him afterwards.

then he has to break apart. He does it gently, but suddenly. Like he had to force himself but doesn’t want to . He wanted to stay, but he knows he can’t. So he steps back with his heart breaking more than he thought possible.

now onto Aziraphale.

Aziraphale is shocked. His eyes go from open to closed to open to closed. He leans back so slightly you almost can’t see it. He doesn’t seem to know how to feel.

And then his hands go around Crowley. It almost seems like it’s an unconscious motion, given how he looks after they break apart. It looks like for a split second, he lets himself melt into Crowley, as his hand wraps around his back and slides across it. But then he hesitates again abd takes his hands away. He thinks he can’t melt into Crowley. But there was the one moment where he broke.

after they break apart, Aziraphale looks shocked, upset, desperate, and to me, even a little disgusted. Probably because he doesn’t know how to deal with it. He licks his lips and moves his mouth around abd seems uncomfortable. But then after Crowley leaves he presses a hand to his mouth. He holds it for a second and starts crying. He realized he liked how it felt. He realizes everything he’s been missing. He loved the feeling of Crowley’s lips on his. Most importantly, he loves crowley.

on the topic of people hating on Aziraphale and saying the metatron did something to him, I disagree. This seems completely in character fir Aziraphale. He’s not an arsehole, he’s in conflict. He thinks he’s not allowed to love Crowley. I get him.

that one episode of bob’s burgers where gene dresses up like bob for the day except it’s a 6 year old jin ling dressed up as his jiujiu, parading around lp in magnificent purple robes that are a little too big for him with his head held high giving orders to anyone passing by in a tone reminiscent of jc and a slight scowl on his face, and jiang cheng despite his feigned annoyance and grumbling feels his heart simultaneously overflow with the love he has for a nephew that looks so much like his jiejie in those purple robes and break for the love that same nephew will never know

+ (when jc asks jl what he’s doing and jl replies saying that he wants to be just like his jiujiu, underneath jc yelling out brat and hidden behind his scoff as he turns his head is the holding back of tears because this is all simply too much)

and it’s not hard to notice but everyone at ymj carry a special almost delicate softness in their heart at the simple sight of jl that day

Just to be clear, when I say steddie dads

I mean Eddie is the dad who is gentle and loving in his support for his girls, because he was raised by Wayne, and Wayne was all of those things to him. He’s the one who cuddles with them when they have nightmares, soothing them back to sleep and reassuring them it was just a dream. He’s the one putting notes in their lunch boxes and worrying if kids might be mean to them that day and feeling his heart drop into his stomach when they fall and scrape their knees.

Steve, on the other hand, had to fight for his life with a pack of feral teenagers in the midst of a horror movie, and he learned that kids are resilient and tough and all that shit, so, yeah, when his five-year-old who's like 90% of the way to being able to swim independently wants to be hurled headfirst into the pool, he's the one catapulting her into the deep end, and if his kid wants to be held upside down by the ankles and swung back and forth like a pendulum, he's her guy.

He’s the one saying, “if you ever see a kid sitting alone at lunch, you go sit with them. got it?”

He’s the one who found out that Moe had trash-talked a little too close to the sun during a basketball game and had the coach bench her for a month.

He’s the one calling the girls on their bullshit when it’s needed (and as they start to hit middle school, they need it all. the. time).

Granted, this DOES NOT HOLD when the girls are babies. Steve was terrified of his daughters when they were babies – he barely slept his first six years of parenthood because of how worried he was that something might happen while he’s asleep. Eddie was the one who's like "What is she gonna do? Cry forever? No. Eventually she'll start talking and can yell this shit at us instead."

And the thing is, he's totally right.

That was. The best goddamn Helluva Boss episode so far. I need to infodump about this. The animation. The voice acting. The music. The moments. The dialogue. Oh, the dialogue; probably the show’s most impressive aspect. Let me get into it.

Right off the bat, the characterization is sensational. You can tell the thoughts and feelings characters are EXPRESSING and suppressing. You have them all figured out.

I also really like the shot below where Blitzo looks like an angry toddler. Because that’s kind of what he is.

He is childish and shitty. The establishment of that fact kicks off the plot of the episode: not Blitzo apologizing, but Blitzo taking a real good look at what he’s done.

Blitzo still isn’t taking things seriously when he first arrives at the party.

None of his “apologies” have been sincere. It would take more to crack him. And more apparently equals a killer classic-rock-like musical number and a confrontation. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

So, as Blitzo watches the party progress, he he slowly…

begins…

to feel…

horrible.

I love how this is demonstrated through his behavior with Stolas and Verosika.

Like, in this scene Blitzo goes super quiet when Stolas tells him how he wants someone to love him. Blitzo wants to tell him but he figures out that that isn’t what Stolas needs. He needs Blitzo go work on his own problems. Those problems have reached a breaking point where Blitzo actually admits to Verosika that he wants to change.

He has fucked up so much and he knows it. He has finally been forced to take a sec and look at the damage he persistently denies.

And so, Blitzo lets Stolas be. He lets Verosika be. He lets everyone he has wronged hate him in peace. Blitzo knows he should probably do some self-reflection or something before he goes breaking more hearts. Great ending.

We can argue the arbitrary nature of the rules of writing in English all the day long but the truth of the matter is, that is how it’s been done to make reading easier for a long time and if you’re going to break the rule or use an exception, you need to know how to do it, and not just assume that anyone reading can follow along your incomprehensible string of dialogue unseparated by new paragraph breaks.

Damian (Gremlin) Wayne...and his even more gremlin-esque family pt. 3

After twenty long minutes of fighting Richard, Jason and Tim have finally managed to take their seats (at Bruce's insistence). Richard and Jason glare at Tim harshly for managing to get the right side chair next to Bruce, the younger boy smiling victoriously and scooting his chair closer to the confused man.

Bruce: "What is going on with you boys?"

Tim gives a mean glare to Damian right quick before blinking innocently up at the older man: "Nothing suspicious...just the regular amount of fighting and attempted bloodshed is all."

Bruce hums slowly and squints suspiciously at Tim's overly bright smile but softens at the boy scooting his plate closer to him and eating happily. Well, he can't argue much if Tim is willingly eating on time.

Damian violently shoves a piece of his salmon in his mouth at how close Drake is getting to his father, his eyes narrowing at the devious smile the other gives him at Bruce patting his hand gently. At Bruce's gentle show of affection for another that is not biologically related to him causes Damian to tighten his grip on his fork, his left hand reaching out to tug Bruce's hand away from Tim and bring it to his stomach, sighing contentedly at the warmth in the palm resting on his belly.

Before Bruce can ask Damian why he did that, said boy looks up at Bruce curiously: "I heard from Pennyworth that you were planning for my academic endeavors-"

Jason stabs at his fish violently while side eyeing Damian: "Schooling, it's called schooling. Is it so fucking hard for you to speak like a normal child?"

Damian turns up his nose while his left eye twitches at being interrupted: "Listen, Todd. Just because I don't talk like an uneducated, unloved and brainless street urchin such as yourself. Don't be jealous."

Bruce gasps quietly at Damian's language-sometimes he forgets how violent his baby son could be-and softly squeezes at Damian's stomach in warning: "Damian Wayne, we don't speak to family that way, especially when it's not true or needed. And Jason, try being a little kinder and gentler with Damian...I don't care that he was trained under the best assassins, he's still just a baby."

Damian frowns and feels irritation rise at his father implying that he needs to be coddled, his said feelings quickly washing away at a large hand carding through his hair and Bruce kissing the top of his head gently.

Green eyes filled with malice towards Jason look up innocently at Bruce, Damian smiling and snuggling back into Bruce as the man continues to dote on him: "I guess I am a baby. YOUR baby. BIOLOGICAL. BLOOD son." Bruce sighs and just pats his youngest on the head, not noticing (or choosing to not pay attention to) his three eldest children in varying degrees and expressions of anger.

Jason locks his eyes onto Damian's and aggressively bites at the salmon, to which Damian just turns his nose up at the pitiable display. Green eyes turn to Tim next, eyebrow raising as the second youngest blankly stares at Damian while mouthing "don't fall to sleep", a weak attempt at frightening him if you ask Damian. And lastly is Richard who is holding that friendly smile on his face while eyeing Damian like a hawk, the man's smile growing when Damian finally looks at him.

It's at a phone ringing that Damian breaks eye contact with the eldest, lips turning into a frown at Bruce sighing and lifting him up, only to place him in his seat and telling everyone he'll be right back.

Well, as soon as Bruce leaves the chaos erupts. Damian turns his head back to face the rest of his new family, only to be greeted with Tim's face in his own.

Tim: "So first you pop up here unexpectedly like a pimple and now you want to hog Bruce to yourself? You are sitting in his seat...I don't think I've ever even sat in his seat."

Damian's smirk is haughty while responding: "Listen Drake, if your ass were to touch this seat, I would have to burn it to spare my father from the disease you surely must be carrying."

Jason and his constant willingness to tease Tim whenever he gets the chance just snorts: "Whaddya mean? Timbo here IS the whole disease short stuff."

Damian growls and throws his fork at Jason, the utensil landing above the teen's shoulder: "Don't ever call me by that name again! While we can agree that Tim is a disease I do not appreciate your ridiculous nicknames for people."

Richard finally interrupts with a sigh: "Everyone calm down. We don't want to ruin Bruce's night too much, if we are going to war about this, why not be civilized and play it cool so we don't alert or distress B?"

Jason flicks a piece of his salmon at the older: "Do I really have to be the one that has to tell you all the reasons playing civilized is stupid, Dickhead? One: it's a war, you know the thing that is filled with bloodshed and violence? And two: I am NOT playing nice with Timmy Neutron and the Oompa Loompa over there, I'd rather kill myself."

Tim crosses his arms and blows a piece of hair out from his face: "Then just get on with it already then. The sooner you kill yourself the less competition there is-"

Damian nods in agreement and gives a mean look to Jason: "Plus, I don't think anyone would care about your second death this time around."

Alfred sighs loudly and slams his palms against the table: "That is quite enough! If you boys are so convinced on having your little battle right now, then fine, but do not degrade each other with your traumas. That is a horribly low blow."

The four boys look at Alfred apologetically and quietly apologize, watching as the man stands and takes his plate to the kitchen.

It's as soon as the second real adult leaves the room that the boys glare at each other and start tossing their remaining food at one another. Spouting threats and curses while planning on how to one-up the other to gain more of Bruce's attention.

So ! My ocs. I guess I'll do an overall explainer for the overall groups. If you check out my Toyhouse (LINK!) there's a bunch of folders up top that are how I categorise them. It's primarily by universe except for the folders that are just "misc."

So folder 1: Blatant favouritism:

These are silly little guys that don't fit in any specific wider universe, but I really really like. So I'll spotlight the two important ones before i get real in the weeds with my main universe.

In here are notably, my Fursona (self explanatory), Ali and Pittsburgh Cincinnati. There's also Hauntkit and Clearpelt who are warriorcats ocs that *is dragged away by airport security*

... So, Pittsburgh, lovingly sometimes called pissbug, is a weird little Thing who I made as like, an homage to characters like happy bunny and Sweetypuss. She (and her weird dog) exist to stand next to strange and offputting captions. I love her. No further context. She's just silly. and violent.

Now. Ali.

Ali Alighieri has thoroughly stolen the show, and also ties into the next folder along, Making Your MK.

With over a hundred extra images compared to second place (Sorry, Tabitha). Ali is my fucked up little scrunkly. My little baby guy. They're a shared character of mine and @samhainian's, and is from their Creature Feature setting (A modern fantasy setting wherein Cryptids and Magic are real but in our modern world.) They are as such, a modern human young adult... Who is also a demon + magic user.

Strange little pansexual altersex genderqueer poetry-nerd that they are... The modern setting also means they are literally just a tumblr user. A fellow countryman, so to speak.

HOWEVER.... Ali's true origin was in *Purrgatorio*, a scrapped visual novel of mine set in the MYMK universe! They were simply retrofitted into CF as the joke with Purrgatorio was that a regular human had mysteriously just shown up in MYMK's pure-furry setting.... And then when we scrapped the project we got all attatched to our little not-so-blank-slate protagonist. But I'll put a pin in Purrgatorio for later.

Making Your MK.

Okay so here's the big one. The setting with.... (looks at spreadsheet) 109 characters not including so-called incidentals. At time of writing.

MYMK is home to... Multiple stories. As you would hope when a setting has 100+ characters. I'd wager each story has about 10-20 relevant characters tops but with a big shared universe like this there gets to be overlap between casts!!! Yay !!! 😊😊😊

MYMK is the name of the main story in the setting. Pronounced "Making your Mark", it is centered around Markus Felidae (The purple one) and their family. It's very action-adventure-y. It's also the plot I'm most secretive about the backend of since I WILL!!!!! Turn it into a nice prose story with pictures SOMEDAY!!!!! But for now tee hee hee secrets secrets. Markus' family is strange and ragtag and is keeping something from them... I can't ramble on too long here unless further prompted in asks about specifics but!!! Everyone in the MYMK folder has a fully furbished little profile with a blurb about them. So if you're curious....

But yeah, I tend to think of the MYMK setting more in terms of its Locations than its Casts, due to the overlapping nature of them all. The Malbranche may be the villains of the main plot, but they're also major players in relation to The Palsgrave who are the antagonists of Moraine, etc etc,

The country everything in MYMK is set in is called New Orphidian, Southern hemisphere little thing, here's a very cartoony map of it.

Um. Cliffside!

Since it's the best map I have... Here's an exclusive sneak peek of a Zine I'll be getting back to once the fandom brain cools down a bit.... :3c

Cliffside is situated on a big ol' Cliff.

A tiny hamlet of a place, it used to have reason to exist, and now does not. It's not even a good tourist locale, as the cliff is much too dangerous compared to the nicer tourist spot of Welkin just a little north. Not to mention nearby Moraine's allure as a tax haven with no labour laws place where a bunch of TV and Movies are filmed!

It's where most of MYMK's main cast reside (except the antagonists from the Big City Varmonte), and is as such a location I have a lot of tiny little worldbuilding thoughts about :)

I won't go into the other locations here just because then this post will SUPER get away from me but... I think most importantly for Cliffside right now...

Is that it's where Purrgatorio is set. Yes, that VN I said got scrapped. It's not dead. It is in fact serving it's original intended purpose as "A (mostly) noncanon exploration of character voice and setting"

It's back and its prose babeyyyyyyy!!! (A BUNCH OF THE EARLY STUFF IS ME BEING SUPER RUSTY ... BE WARNED)

Purrgatorio is currently the most publicly available coherent work I have out of my ocs! It's very low-stakes and serves mostly to bash my toys together and see what character dynamics come out, but you can look if you want to!

(There's also a whole THING on the meta of its Canonicity... It's not canon, but it's also not NOT canon. But if I talk about Metanarrative Timeline Collapse in my normal mundane non-magic setting im gonna sound bonkers ✌)

Ali's dynamics with the MYMK cast are so goddamn funny to me. Like I literally just handed my OCs some ET shit but ET is a sexually repressed tumblr user with a mood disorder.

But yeah I don't think I can coherently string together much more about MYMK without just actually explaining THE WHOLE PLOT.... Though I will absolutely elaborate on any given character's Whole Deal if i'm prompted. (OH MY GOD I DIDNT EVEN TALK ABOUT CHROME AND TABITHA. WAIT. OKAY THERE'S. OK NO IF I TALKED ABOUT THEM IT'D JUST END UP AN ESSAY ,SORRY..)

and Monster of the Week... Is currently being revamped! It used to be a modern world setting with hidden magic, now it's going to be more... Adventure Time-y. Fantasy world get iphone. Yknow. It has a lower Age Rating than MYMK's "anything goes", as it started as a Pitch Bible Project in my animation class. They're a little neglected but I still love them :) The revamp is extemely recent and not reflected in any of the art/writing yet but I'm workin on it. It still doesn't have a proper title..... OTL

So yeah!! Uh. This wasn't as comprehensive as I was hoping but it turns out I have way, WAY too many thoughts on my guys. And no idea what to do when im actually asked about them so !!!! This was not a very coherent ramble but it was a ramble !

There's things like essays on Chrome and Tabitha (Link) and also The Queer Gender Identities Of The Whole Cast (Link) hiding around on my toyhouse, and once again, Purrgatorio (Link) serves as my sandbox for playing with how these characters act in situations.

But..... ! I did try to make my toyhouse approachable for the average layman. Every character in the MYMK folder (Link) has a *blurb* of information, rather than a giant wall of text explaining everything about them. I want people to be able to understand their general vibe at a glance rather than be overwhelmed.

In any case ???? Uh. Fun game for everyone: If you know your homestuck classpect, every single MYMK character has a classpect and lunar sway. and a birthday. Try and find your andrew-hussie assigned kin! As a Prospitian Witch of Heart, I share my classpect and lunar sway with Chrome. No I don't know what this means. It worries me honestly he's kind of an asshole.

Does it ever feel pressuring (no pun intended) to work on a show with such a legacy and history as SpongeBob?

VERY much so, but in a good way, if such a thing exists! one of our mantras on our little storyboard plussing team is “pressure makes diamonds” and it is a very applicable saying

when i first started, i was TEEEEERRRIFIED! i really felt like i had no idea what i was doing, and there have been so many times where i’ve turned in a section and genuinely thought “oh my god they’re gonna fire me for this it’s so bad.” working in animation is frazzling enough! but not only are we working on a cultural mecca, with not only the kids of today to entertain, impress and inspire, but to maintain the integrity of the series and entertain/impress/inspire the kids like us who grew up with the show, we are also working with literal animation legends and animation veterans!! it’s pretty surreal to be working on the same show as someone like Bob Camp, who’s been in the industry for 40+ years… and even more surreal when he says he’s a big fan of your work 😵‍💫‼️‼️‼️‼️

THANKFULLY, i’ve made a lot of strides in curbing some of my storyboarding stage fright. it used to be really bad when i started, like genuinely panic attack inducing! the constant patience and guidance and encouragement of my peers and consistent practice from these past three years have really allowed me to grow and blossom. now, when i feel a bit claustrophobic in remembering the pure scale of what we’re doing, i weaponize it for good!!

i think of how inspired and amazed and obsessed with SpongeBob i was as a kid. how it inspired me to draw, how i remember drawing along to episodes and commercial breaks. my brother and his wife are both elementary school teachers and routinely update me about how their kids are still crazy for SB (and they both brag about me to their kids heheh). i think of all the kids watching, all the kids realizing that getting to draw these characters and interact with them and live in their world is something you indeed can do, all the kids who religiously catch each new episode like i once did… it just fills me with so much confidence and hope and love, and that motivates me to deliver and do my best and try to do what i can to help make each episode be better and more fun than the last

SpongeBob is for everyone, obviously! that’s one of the great things i love about working on it: i get just as much enjoyment watching our finished episodes as our target audience. but i do bring up the kids particularly often because, at the end of the day, that is who we are doing it for and i also just can’t help but think back to how my SpongeBob obsessed self as a kid would have had her world rocked to know i’m doing what i’m doing. i want to give those kids, who i used to be and still essentially am, the same joy and spark and all consuming inspiration i felt and still do

there are definitely some days where the gravity of what we’re doing hits harder than others! some days are a lot more difficult than others. this is an absolute dream job, i’m not just saying that, i always fantasized about maybe one day being able to work my way up to working on SpongeBob and now it’s my first animation job—but it is very easy to get overwhelmed by just how big of a legacy we’re carrying on our shoulders! how many other mega talented people work on this show! there’s a lot to juggle. but we juggle it well. there is so much love and heart and care poured into this show. we do everything we can to maintain the integrity of the characters and the show’s core, and it just makes me love what i do all the more and makes me more determined to do it

TLDR: YES! but i’m much better off for it, because it reminds me of why we’re working so hard to begin with. we all want this show to be the best it can—to maintain its core 25 years later, but still have fun doing it. i mentioned this on Twitter, but when i met Bill Fagerbakke last month he was saying how cool it is that fans who grew up with the show are now able to work on it and i couldn’t agree more. it’s the greatest honor imaginable being able to carry such a monumental torch, and i hope i’m able to keep at it for a long, long time.
