The issue is not simply one of needing to save the world, but also of needing to solve the problem of the loss of soul throughout the modern world. Part of what has been lost in the reckless rushing of modernity is the sense that each life has an authentic interior that shelters important emotions as well as inherent purpose, and that the dignity of existence includes a necessary instinct to unfold the unique story woven inside each living soul. ~Michael Meade~

Mind blown 🤯
This whole story was soo amazing. It tears you apart and then puts you back together wonderfully. I loved how unique this story is and how people received their due justice.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ (*whisper* just read it…)
Quotes:
Nie HuaiSang has always liked stories. His mother used to read tales and sing lullabies that spoke of fearless heroes and gentle-hearted princesses. She was the main reason Nie HuaiSang enjoys all forms of art and poetry over the murderous brutality of his Clan.
It didn’t take too much for the nameless boy’s story to catch his attention.
Even with Lan-xiansheng’s story of his encounter with the nameless boy, many details still evade Nie HuaiSang. It pains him not to know everything, to be unable to form a clear, conclusive picture of this supposedly forgotten existence.
What does that even mean? Is the nameless boy a hero whose stories faded in time? Is he perhaps the son of a Clan Leader taking revenge for the abandonment of his parents? Is he devil? A ghost? A god?
Devils would be more focused on destroying humanity instead of helping them. Common ghosts wouldn’t be so elusive as to avoid the combined efforts of most Clans. And gods... Well, gods are all too caught in their own messes to deal with the matters of the human realm.
No. This child is a living human. Nie HuaiSang is sure of it. He’s a human who chose to forgo living with other humans. An existence simultaneously twisted and kind enough to be seen as worth protecting by supernatural beings.
It’s an exhilarating thought.
————
“G-Gongzi?” That voice is soft and gentle to the ears, yet filled to the brim with incomparable anxiety. The boy can’t look at Wen Ning’s face, but he’s sure it’s still full of that melancholic beauty that made the tragedy of his ending even more heartbreaking.
The boy turns around. He can run. He should run. He needs to get away from here, always from them, away from the heartbreak of having yet another loved one not recognize him.
He barely survived that day with Jiang-shushu. Seeing Shijie again a year ago was almost too much. Meeting Lan WangJi—Lan Zhan in that inn was equal parts painful and hopeful.
But the Wen siblings are different. They’re two of the people he gave everything he had to save, yet was unable to do anything as they walked towards their deaths. All because of him, because they thought there was a chance their sacrifice would spare his life.
They were his family. His real family, one built on shared goals and affection instead of duty and debts.
They were everything he had.
And yet—
M, 71k
Summary:
There’s a child lingering in the outskirts of the cultivation world. No one knows where he comes from, his age nor his goal.
This is the story of how he found his way back home.

I Saw the TV Glow is such a uniquely, devastatingly queer story. Two queer kids trapped in suburbia. Both of them sensing something isn’t quite right with their lives. Both of them knowing that wrongness could kill them. One of them getting out, trying on new names, new places, new ways of being. Trying to claw her way to fully understanding herself, trying to grasp the true reality of her existence. Succeeding. Going back to help the other, to try so desperately to rescue an old friend, to show the path forward. Being called crazy. Because, to someone who hasn’t gotten out, even trying seems crazy. Feels crazy. Looks, on the surface, like dying.
And to have that other queer kid be so terrified of the internal revolution that is accepting himself that he inadvertently stays buried. Stays in a situation that will suffocate him. Choke the life out of him. Choke the joy out of him. Have him so terrified of possibly being crazy that he, instead, lives with a repression so extreme, it quite literally is killing him. And still, still, he apologizes for it. Apologizes over and over and over, to people who don’t see him. Who never have. Who never will. Because it’s better than being crazy. Because it’s safer than digging his way out. Killing the image everyone sees to rise again as something free and true and authentic. My god. My god, this movie. It shattered me.

ppl are too quick to point to laios' disability as the reason his friends think he's a freak sometimes. so many instances of laios getting yelled at are, in my eyes, a case of "this guy had to emotionally mature very early in order to be there for his little sister" combined with "much older friends who never had to learn to manage their own emotions to the same degree"
a lot of the time he's right about needing to be more direct/deal with things in a way that may seem scary/needing to put your gut reaction aside. he tries not to make his friends uncomfortable and he puts up with a lot because he's trying to keep the peace, but he also pushes the others out of their comfort zones purposefully to try to get them to think more constructively. everyone else in the party is prone to acting on their gut instincts and avoiding uncomfortable situations even when facing them head-on is very much necessary. part of what makes laios such a great leader is the fact that he knows from experience how to put his own feelings aside to help someone else grow.
yes, he does make a lot of social blunders by accident and he does struggle to connect with others, but not all of his positive influence on others is accidental or "despite" making people uncomfortable. a lot of the time, I think it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and he's trying to help the people around him process emotions in a healthy way as they all go through some truly harrowing shit. all the main characters support each other as well as they can with their unique emotional skillsets. laios' skillset just happens to be "gently talk child into eating her vegetables"

I've had a beast of a cold for the last few days, but I wanted to get this out before the new year! while I've sort of made my peace with my first take on Lilia's UM poster, I really wanted to do a version with the new context that chapter 6 gave us. because. c'mon.
(don't worry, Lilia can carry ALL HIS KIDS AT ONCE)

sokka trying to get katara to give up on her waterbending bc it could get her killed. and katara refuses to give up and continues to practice anyway. bc sokka and katara represent the survival of both the people and the culture. sokka had the safety of their people thrust upon him by his dad, while katara is the only one in their tribe that can carry the weight of their culture. both are heavy burdens, and they're struggling with their roles bc they're just two kids trying to rebuild in the wake of genocide. but they refuse to give up, bc that's what the story is about.
holding onto hope, regardless of what you face.

hi i love how rose is like 14-15 years old and idealistic and hopeful and makes stuffed animals on etsy and loves her mom and tries her best to be a good ally to the murderous alien, i love that she is a trans character so fiercely adored by her family and friends that even despite adversity she sees the best in people and the world. yeah maybe some of the girl power stuff felt a little tacky but goddamn i think a break in the cynicism is nice actually. rtd’s writing has always been steeped in loneliness and tragedy, but also in hope for the underdogs. i’m so excited to see what this new creative team does next :)

There are currently a lot of comments on my timeline about @derinthescarletpescatarian new short story "How to escape the Well". Most of them along the line of "Oi Derin, what the fuck?!?".
Since I'm a curious person and love horror and the title reminded me of "The Ring" I read it as well and was like : "mhm, not what I was expecting, considering the readers reactions"
Then I started to read Derin's other short story's and found "Isolation Histeria"...
My first thought was also : "Derin, what the fuck?!? "
So I guess I just rediscovered how everyone resonates with different storys depending on who they are and I think that's beautiful 🌸
Give Derin's Short story's a try :

Once again thinking about the ATLA post series (not in continuity with the comics) fanfic I'll never write that follows Azula going to work in Iroh's tea shop in Ba Sing Se and her ensuing struggle with psychosis and realizing she was in the wrong and is just as much the victim of an abusive parent as Zuko was.
In this story Iroh tries to help her and at first she HATES it. She hates his kindness, she hates the sadness on his face when he sees her struggling, she hates all of it. At one point she snaps at Iroh to stop pitying her and he says, "Don't you know the difference between compassion and pity?" And she snaps back that they're the same thing and he replies, "You're wrong, Azula. Pity is simply feeling sad for someone's circumstances. Compassion is the desire for their circumstances to get better." And it hits her like a ton of bricks that this man, unlike her father, wants what's best for her. He's only ever treated her with kindness and she's disrespected him and called him weak for it and it's the most actual love she's ever received from a father figure in her fifteen years of life. And she wants nothing more than to cry in his arms but she can't yet because she doesn't know how to show weakness in front of anyone because of what her father did to her.
I see a post floating around sometimes where someone said that as a child, Azula is the scariest character, but as an adult, she's the saddest and I agree. She was 15. She deserves a redemption arc.

okay unironically I love so much that porter is like this world SUCKS its BAD here and it HURTS you why do you care abt it!!! and literally every single bad kid is like ngl we just hate ur ass it does not matter what ur philosophy is
#dimension 20#fantasy high junior year#not art#fhjy spoilers#its!!! gods I will Be My Ass in the tags rn. but thats so like. deliciously setting typical#like porter's desire is to transcend and his contempt for the world he's in feels. idk Real#like he plays the game bc he wants to win and be done with it. how do I word this#yknow. being a god would like. be his win state. when he gets that happening thats it his story is done he checks out#meanwhile the bad kids do actually just like playing the game lmao. like they love adventuring!#theyre so solidly Of This World. they carry the values that can only be born of it and they like having mastery over it#its a meta angle that I think is very fun specifically for d20 being in such a unique position in the zeitgeist when it first started#the rat grinders are from DnD Writ Large. porter wants to escape. but this is the bad kids' home its Their Actual Play Show#which makes it so fucking excellent to me that porter's question is somewhat of merit! its their show and it tries very hard to punish them#and they just straight up dont listen to him here lmao bc they hate him but! since the moment the academic track ended its been clear#that they save the world bc they Like Playing. With Each Others#thats what riz thinks the core of adventuring is! thats why fig stayed! and I also think thats why this hovers over elmville now and#a dead god is coming back in the school gym. porter is a shit evangelist but even if hes a good one I dont think it wouldve worked like he#wants it to. the only way he couldve escaped is if he'd not involved elmville at all. thats where the bad kids met dude#its a shitty place that fucks with them but they all come back here bc they wanna play with each others#and in that regard I think thats what the stress tokens ultimately means. Is This Game Still Fun To Play. ITS A RAGEQUIT LIMIT#Im literally running from one end to another of this conspiracy board Ive pulled out of nowhere#Ill draw after this I just wanna get this out. gods this episode has done nothing but furthering my delusion of grandeur actually#Im the hottest smartest manthing on earth Im king fucking midas over here. anyways uh! great ep!
