VHSCC OH MY GOD

(no spoilers)

Starkid nation, you aren't ready.

So let's start with the obvious. Look, I spent thirteen years growing up with Starkid. That initial Michigan gang are deeply special to me and I will always miss Dylan, Brian R., and Corey in any show they aren't in. And this one's no different. But just as Janaya came in and took over Belle from Britney so flawlessly, Curt, Brian, and AJ were all WONDERFUL in their new roles. The gentle-but-high-energy, truly decent, romantic himbo charm Curt brought to our Springsteen boy Jim (you all are going to LOVE Jim, I promise) perfectly offset the defiant, sneering anger of Young Scrooge in "That Scrooge." Brian's reactions (particularly to the "rather take my own life" line) were so funny and some of my favorite parts of the show. And AJ... this is now my favorite thing AJ has ever done. And that's saying something. The smaller casting shake-up moments (Joey as Fezziwig, other little line re-distributions) were so fun as well!

The new act 1 is PERFECTION. I was actually surprised by how absolutely hysterical it was? Like, I won't tell you what was up with that clip on Instagram of Brian, Lauren, and Joey doing a freak-out dance, but I can tell you that their whole Act 1 deal threatened to steal the show every. Single. Time. I already mentioned Curt as Jim, but you will also love Della, who is so funny and real and truly carries us through the start of the show (Janaya is a STAR and she Curt have brilliant chemistry). Ali did a terrific job of balancing the sadness and hope that are both at the center of the devastating little Match Girl. And Jamie's Grandma... well, honestly I have no idea how to talk about Jamie's song without giving stuff away.

But the real star of the show in Act 1, as he should be, was our man Clark. I can't emphasize enough how much he nailed the writing of this whole new act. I mentioned that the new stuff is hilarious, but it's also deeply heartfelt, and also sad exactly when it needs to be. Like, the transition after Jamie's song? I can't really talk about it yet, but what that moment does with emotion is unreal. And, as expected, every song is a banger! My one complaint about this show, and it IS a big one, is that there is no cast recording of the Act 1 songs. I want to listen to them all the time.

But the good news is, I CAN listen to Christmas Carol as much as I want! The classic that started it all is back, with so many people reprising the hell out of their truly iconic roles (God I love the VHS Cratchits), and better than ever. I traditionally hate change, and I love the version of VHSCC Live! we already have so much, but I think I somehow loved this version even more? The staging is alive and clever and there are some additions and changes, particularly in "Final Ghost"/"Christmas Day," that frankly blew my mind and somehow managed to elevate the material even further. I can't wait for the digital ticket to come out so that I can talk about them. To put it simply, James Tolbert mastered his Starkid directorial debut like you won't believe. I'm so proud of him and grateful for the larger role he's taken in Starkid since they moved base to LA.

Also, the Ghost of Christmas Past is extra unhinged this year? Jaime pulled out all of the impish stops and it was the BEST.

Basically, everyone more than delivered. I haven't talked about Meredith yet but she rocked it in the band and continued to validate the hell out of my opinion that "3 Spirits" is the dark horse best song in the show.

And a special shout-out to June Saito for continuing to be a costuming GENIUS. I always love her work and this production is no exception. I honestly wanted to give the return of the Bob Cratchit costume its own round of applause.

You know, the world is a mess and everything is pretty much terrible. It's been a hard year in an impossible decade. But every once in a while you come across some art that takes all of that, acknowledges the truth of it, and somehow pulls back the curtains to harness the joy and hope that's still there under the rubble. To me, Starkid in particular has always been about finding and holding onto the hope and the beauty and humanity that allows us to endure an existence that can so often feel bleak. And VHSCC is maybe the most perfect encapsulation of that idea.

So thank you Clark, James, Meredith, Brian, and everyone who worked so hard on this little bit of magic. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Let's make a little light.

Hello!

I recently came across a post that triggered me a bit, and I wanted to talk about it.

In essence, the points raised were that:

Women are more inclined to ship Sasuke and Naruto because they have chemistry and share a lot in common.

Shipping Sasuke with Sakura makes no sense because they are too different, and she doesn't understand him.

If BoruSara were to happen, it would imply that their fathers are a thing because of the parallels.

Sakura is a poorly written character, and people can't relate to her because she's too unrealistic.

Sakura is poorly written because, essentially, she's different from Sasuke and Naruto.

First of all... SNS exists not because of the supposed chemistry between them but because they are two attractive white guys sharing a lot of screen time together and so, the perfect combo for fujoshi shipping. Justifying this expedition is like justifying the fact that the frequent depiction of partially naked women on car racing posters has no relation to the intended audience.

If Sakura shouldn't be with Sasuke because she doesn't understand him, does Naruto understand him? Seriously?

Naruto understands Sasuke's loneliness, that's it.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not bashing their connection, but let's be honest, nobody really understood Sasuke there -yet it didn't stop them from wanting to help him-

Furthermore, what does this imply? That you can only be in a relationship with someone who has a similar background?

Saying Sakura doesn't understand Sasuke at all is superficial on so many levels that I won't even bother dwelling on it.

Next, the idea that people think the parallels they cling to justify their ship is just... bizarre.

If BoruSara were to happen, it wouldn't prove anything about SNS because the biggest difference between these two ships would be the author's intention.

SNS would have happened if Kishimoto wanted their relationship that way, but that wasn't the case. It has been repeatedly emphasized in the manga that their relationship is not romantic.

If some interpret it that way, that's fine, but they shouldn't tell the author how he wrote HIS own manga. And no, it's not heteronormativity. I don't even understand why some fanon ships seek canon validation for their shipping.

Not to mention that every time they talk about these parallels, many seem to deliberately forget that these two children are not mirror images of their fathers but their own individuals.

Yes, they have the foundation of their personalities, but that's just it, the foundation. Apart from that, they differ on so many levels that it's not even funny.

Sarada also shares a lot of her mother's personality, and it's as clear as day. So, if I follow this logic, does BoruSara also imply that NaruSaku could have been a thing despite Sakura's total absence of romantic feelings?

Boruto can indeed be like his father, but he also tries to be like his mentor, so sometimes, he resembles him too. And he can be as calm and focused as his mother, not to mention he has personality traits unique to him. All this makes him someone too different from the "Naruto carbon copy" label stuck on him. Saying that is really downplaying his character.

Moreover, the relationship these two have is also different from that of their fathers: it's normal and not built on a heap of negative feelings and deadly fights that led to a vitriolic friendship.

As for the last two points, Sakura is less unrealistic than Sasuke and Naruto, yet not many bat an eye at that. Maybe because it's a shounen manga about ninjas, and unreality is actually expected...?

In fact, Sakura is the most realistic character in this series.

Her character development is incredible, not just because "she was weak at the beginning and became strong," it's more than that.

Sakura has shown me that no matter how you start, you can reach the destination you want if you work for it. Her transformation is phenomenal: throughout the manga, she radicalizes in ALL aspects. She removes her blinders, starts seeing people for who they really are, becomes more understanding and attentive, learns —and sometimes in the most brutal ways— that everything is not black and white and that you sometimes have to make horrible choices to protect others.

She changes in so many ways, and the best part is that Kishimoto didn't make her some perfect Mary Sue. He made her evolve despite her flaws, for which I will always be grateful.

Sakura is not a poorly written character. Yes, she could have been more explored, and sometimes her author did her wrong, but that doesn't make her a bad character. She could have been better —all the characters in this series could have been— but that doesn't mean she's "worse."

She is fundamentally the reason why I'm in my last year of college today and intend to persevere in my studies (and it's not even a joke).

I never had a family model I could identify with, and all the characters (fictional or not) I love or admire have always seemed out of reach, just an ideal to idolize but unable to imitate.

With Sakura, however, it has always been different; every time I look at her, I think, "if she could do it, then why not me?"

Her importance in my life in terms of motivation and emotional development has been crucial, so it's really frustrating to see people deduce that just because they can't identify with her, no one can, and she's a bad character.

She's not poorly written; she's just different.

Many of us, little girls that we were, saw ourselves in OG Sakura (whether we admit it or not) because the way she was written is how a lot of pre-adolescent girls behave (minus the rapid character development).

It was nice to grow up with her because it showed me that I didn't need to be perfect or have incredible motivations or be "cool" from the start to become someone exceptional. She taught me that my future is not set in stone. And most importantly, she taught me to be myself, to be authentic, to accept and love myself as the imperfect human that I am.

The weirdest thing about this is that these statements came from someone who claims not to care about SNS and doesn't hate Sakura. How can a person claiming to be neutral come to such a conclusion? Honestly, it baffles me; this kind of pseudo-analysis is on the same level of nonsense as what antis spew.

If some can't be bothered to understand a character, then they should simply say nothing about her.

I'm sorry for bothering you with this, but after reading this thing, I just couldn't let it pass.

I don't know how you guys manage to tolerate this fandom, let alone respond to all the strange and stupid takes you receive day after day. In any case, you have my utmost respect.

I agree apart from two things.

Naruto and Sasuke do have chemistry, but there's just nothing romantic about it.

I wouldn't bring the colour of their skin into it, that opens up a whole other can of worms.

Naruto understood Sasuke in some ways (loneliness, being high level shinobi who could read each other's thoughts through fighting etc), and Sakura understood him in other ways (his likes/dislikes, how his mind works and his decision making processes etc).

Yep, that's one of the things that's always irked me the most from their points. It's like they think that just because Sakura couldn't empathise with Sasuke's tough upbringing, that makes her an unsuitable partner for him, which is just all kinds of stupid. It's also one of the reasons the SK fans prefer that ship, since Karin also had a relatively tough upbringing, she'd be able to "understand" Sasuke better than Sakura. As if being able to empathise with a tough childhood is all there is to understand about a person.

Agreed. This silly idea that BS's canonisation would somehow serve as proof that SNS should have happened, is one of the 4 main reasons why I do not want BS to happen. Although it is the least important to me out of the 4 of them.

Not all interpretations and opinions are valid. I'm sorry but I'm sick of people hiding behind this false idea that just because they say it's their opinion or interpretation, it's just as valid as everyone else's. No, opinions and interpretations can be wrong. Authorial intent dictates how the narrative is supposed to be perceived and understood. Therefore, if Kishi says that something is a certain way, then that's the way it is, end of story, no room for further interpretation. If Kishi says that Naruto and Sasuke are platonic, and that they were never meant to be anything more than that, then that's the way it is. Other interpretations are wrong, because Kishi's word is gospel.

To be honest, I have no idea what they could be referring to when those people label Sakura as apparently being unrealistic.

Regarding the identification question, just because you can't identify with her doesn't mean everyone can't. I do, and many others do too because, for once, in the whole history of shounen, we have a female character with authentic and not-so-likable flaws, approaching more the human being without the need for a traumatic event or a horrible childhood to justify her behavior. Her character development is incredible, not just because "she was weak at the beginning and became strong," it's more than that. Sakura has shown me that no matter how you start, you can reach the destination you want if you work for it. Her transformation is phenomenal: throughout the manga, she radicalizes in ALL aspects. She removes her blinders, starts seeing people for who they really are, becomes more understanding and attentive, learns —and sometimes in the most brutal ways— that everything is not black and white and that you sometimes have to make horrible choices to protect others.

Unfortunately, many people just don't see any of that. They see an annoying, selfish person who treated Naruto poorly (despite that only being applicable to before the Forest of Death), "obsessed" over Sasuke (when she really didn't, and that criticism is far more applicable to Naruto anyway), broke off her friendship with Ino over a boy (showing how they missed the entire point of that fight), and was essentially useless (despite among other things, saving many important people's lives, multiple times).

"She could have been better —all the characters in this series could have been" - Yes, I'm glad you highlighted this. This is by no means a Sakura exclusive criticism. It's just more of a problem for her since she was a main character.

Kishimoto once said that his goal with Sakura was to create a realistic female character that little girls could identify with and despite all the controversy surrounding her character, he actually succeeded in this challenge. Many of us, little girls that we were, saw ourselves in OG Sakura (whether we admit it or not) because the way she was written is how a lot of pre-adolescent girls behave (minus the rapid character development).

I'll take your word for it. Personally, towards the beginning I did indeed find Sakura very irritating, for several different reasons, but I grew to appreciate her for what she brings, rather than continuously judging her for how she was at the very beginning. But apparently, "character development" is either a foreign concept to these people, or can only be applied if the character in question moves on from her initial feelings. Because if not, then her entire character automatically "regresses", regardless of the reasons why she retained her feelings.

That reminds me of a video that Swagkage made on YouTube, which I talked about in great depth during this post, regarding how he tried to lie and say that he didn't hate Sakura and that he was impartial to her, yet the vast majority of the video was him hating on Sakura.

I don't know how you guys manage to tolerate this fandom, let alone respond to all the strange and stupid takes you receive day after day. In any case, you have my utmost respect. Thank you for listening, and I wish you a beautiful and happy new year

Thoughts on Mile and Apo after the KinnPorsche World Tour Manila show:

First, let's talk about their looks...

Apo is the human personification of this meme:

He's so pretty in real life. Like, I know he's already so good-looking in photos and videos but nothing compares to him in person. I literally gasped when I saw him. His beauty is unreal.

Excuse my shitty mobile's camera (I also had to zoom in for this) but I just had to share this man's face.

Mile's physique is so... He's broad. He might not be as broad as he was pre-KP but I finally understood why he looks bigger than Apo even though they're practically the same height. His waist is tiny, too. Kudos to whoever's styling him because his pants do his ass and legs so much justice.

Also, he's really pale. It's funny because he looks like Edward Cullen in my videos because the spotlight on him just created a glare for my camera.

Trust me when I say I made so many attempts at trying to get him to look less glare-y in this video.

Second, let's talk about their stage presence...

Apo was truly born to be a star. The charisma just oozes out of him. I can't pinpoint how exactly, but I just know there was a point during the show where I just had to stop recording to stare at him in awe. I've met celebrities up close and personal before but this was one of the few times I was truly starstruck.

It makes KinnPorsche the Series even more special because the world would've lost this presence from its screens.

Mile, on the other hand, reminds me of that quote about Marilyn Monroe being able to switch her persona on and off. By that I mean, Mile knows when to turn on the charm so all eyes are on him and he knows when to dim it so he doesn't steal the spotlight from others. Like, I don't know how else to say it. I mean, obviously you'd still see him on the stage but it's like he's giving you permission to look away from him for a bit.

I don't know, man... But it does make me curious how'd things would have gone if he decided to pursue his rockstar dreams.

Lastly, let's talk about MileApo...

I'm gonna be real. When I went into this (the concert), I didn't expect to feel the same level of kilig (or giddiness) I experienced watching the show. I figured a lot of those feelings came from the post-prod additions, like background music and romantic editing. Yes, Mile and Apo have chemistry. But that can translate differently when you see them in real life.

(Lemme just give a quick example. I have been a TayNew fan for years. I think they have great chemistry, specifically romantic chemistry. But when I saw them earlier this year, I realized that their "real life" chemistry was very bro-coded. Like, they're really good friends who are very comfortable with each other.)

So imagine my surprise when I realized that Mile and Apo's chemistry off-screen is just as striking. There's a fondness in their interactions with each other that I would posit as something akin to domesticity. There's something so wholesome about it, something so safe and secure... It's hard to put into words but it was like looking at a warm hug shared between two people who've found comfort in each other.

Again, I don't know... This was just my observation. I mean, I'm also a firm believer in the concept of a soulmate doesn't have to be a romantic partner, just someone who makes you whole. It looked like that to me. But hey, you don't have to take my word for it.

Happy Monday everyone :) Another amazing intense look in this one. Continuing the longing pattern. Their pining era was primo af I have to say. Mostly about Rosalind and Bailey in this one but we get some goodies in between there. Super short one but off we go.

5x04 The Choice

We start off with Bailey being trapped in Rosalind’s homemade trap. She FaceTimes John so they can see what they're dealing with inside. Just love her being as close to Tim as possible. Seriously be closer you two I dare you. I love how Lucy makes sure to come right next to Tim. That magnetic pull never fails. Mainly why I wanted to show this moment. To just to display personal space isn't even a thing even when they're on weird ground. They legit can't help themselves and don't even know they're doing it.

They all meet in a shop to discuss things privately. Worried the entire house is bugged. Lucy comes in after they have their convo. You can see she is buzzing with nerves. Trying to keep herself in check. I love how Tim’s eyes keep flicking back to check on her. It’s subconscious and I love it so much. He wants to comfort her but they’re in a tricky place. So he just checks on her the best he can from where he’s seated. Lucy stays back with Tim to stay with Bailey. Doesn’t want her to be alone at all during this. She’s the best. You wonder why Tim is in love with her. Things like this.

Nolan has been taken away by Rosalind at this point. She called him and said she would kill Bailey if he didn’t trade himself for her. Brings us to her floating in the tank asking for John. Lucy doesn’t know what to say so she looks to her person help her. Basically tagging Tim in with just a look. Their silent communication never ceases to amaze me. Tim steps in a comforts Bailey for Lucy and I love it.

He does this on Lucy's behalf. Look at him he would've struggled with this just a couple years ago. Now look at him. He's tagging in for his girl. Who reawakened all this in him in the first place. Always has her back no matter what. Makes my heart happy. Even when they’re in their “moving on” pining phase. Just little things like this make me so happy. Giving us good crumbs in eps with low content for them.

Bailey is doing dunk tests to see how long she can hold her breath. Lucy is barely keeping it together for her. She keeps looking to Tim for comfort and strength. I love it sfm. Her natural instinct is to reach out to him. Despite the weird place they’re in he’s her rock. Their looks say so much above. Just look at them. Checking in on each other with just their looks. Their chemistry is unreal. So much love in those looks too. Also a lot being said in them. Their chemistry never ceases to amaze me.

They finally get the floorboard open to get to the tank below. Tim calls Lucy over for no reason other than he wants to be with her. Anyone could’ve held his belt but he wanted his girl with him before he went down. Also to let her know she could follow him afterwards if it’s safe. No one else he wants having his six. Lucy tries to offer to go but no way in hell he was going to allow that.

Protective Tim is present and accounted for. I love her look when he tells her no. She does a little whine of disagreement. Lucy looks sick with worry. She doesn’t want him going down there either. Especially without her. It’s killing her to not have his back for this. That’s her natural default. He would rather sacrifice himself before letting her get hurt. *heart clutch* Best part of the episode right here.

She clutches his duty belt in worry as he descends into that hole. I love how he doesn’t take his eyes off her until the very last second. Could be the last time he sees her face depending on what’s down there. Makes sure to make most of it as he is lowered down. Tim is determined she is the last thing he sees before he faces whatever is below. What a damn romantic. His body was being lowered possibly into a explosive trap and he refused to break his gaze with her. *fans self* That man loves you Lucy Chen. That intense looks could set this house on fire my god.

The way she watches him descend. My damn heart. The hitch in her breath when he falls out of sight. Weird place or not her whole world just disappeared under that floorboard. Into god knows what and all she can do is stand there waiting. He said she should could follow if it was clear. She is antsy to follow him. To hear him give the all clear. Also had there been traps they would've had to drag her away from that hole. Because she would’ve jumped head long in to get him. Such a good moment for them. That look is seared into my shipper brain.

They end up saving Bailey with some impressive timing. Well Lucy does when Bailey's surfaced. We get to watch her be a bad ass and do CPR on her. Which is amazing to watch her perform. John ends up not killing Rosalind to save her. Which good thing the team did cause she would’ve died otherwise. Rosalind gets killed by her partner instead as John tries to get her booked. They're walking outside and she is clipped by a bullet before he can finish calling it in.

They roll up and see Rosalind’s dead body. Lucy is in shock she’s dead. Tim does the best he can do in the moment for her. Telling her she only seemed larger than life. Melissa crushing this scene with her expression. In disbelief she’s actually dead. This woman who has haunted her nightmares for so long. Given her so much PTSD is finally gone. Lucy starts to analyze why she did this. Tim won't let her go down that rabbit hole. She's taken up enough of Lucy's mental space by now.

Tim wants her to refocus. Saying that doesn't matter now. She is gone and he doesn't want her to dwell on it. She can truly start to close that chapter of her life now. It is surreal she is gone I know I felt that way too. Bless Annie for finishing off this SL even while she was sick. A true BAMF. LOVED her in Castle and Loved her in this as well. Hell of a villain.

i know yearning for a jim and pam dynamic has become so cliche and white-man-core and it might be weird for me to be making this post in 2023 but i just. every single time i rewatch parts of the office it hits me again. i never love watching them pine and fall into happiness any less. it never loses its magic.

and i've been trying to figure out why that is because, like, yeah they're cute, but so are so many other TV couples. why are they so special? it's obviously because jenna and john have great chemistry, and because the show is just a joy to watch. it's because they're fun and they get along so beautifully well even outside of romantic tension. but i think most of the appeal lies in the mundanity of it.

there are so many epic star-crossed lovers in media, and so many narratives where love is the larger-than-life magic to defeat all evil. but the office doesn't give us that. sure, love is definitely the driving force behind pam's and especially jim's character, but their love feels softer, more realistic, more relatable. because they're not in an epic saga fighting bad guys; they're in a shitty corporate office with weird coworkers and unrealized dreams.

so to make their love story so central and romantic means to romanticize the mundane. jim's and pam's lives don't drastically change for the better when they get together, and they haven't defeated any evils, but they feel happier just because they have each other. it makes the viewer feel like that type of love is achievable, even in the real world where we have our own shitty jobs and weird coworkers and unrealized dreams.

that's why everyone's looking for the jim to their pam and vice versa, i think. we all want our boring little lives to be flooded with love like that.

This blog is a single driven story based roleplay, so new interactions are to be set in the blog's current canon arc unless plotted / tag-stated otherwise.

We are sensitive to visual and written subjects of abandonment, child abuse + distress, and stalking. We are okay to read and talk about them, but we need warnings so we can give ourselves the mental preparation to process them.

We do explicit threads with those we're close to, although explicit prompt are okay to send to explore romantic centric chemistry or non-romantic sexual dynamics.

Our body experiences hypersexuality, so sexual contents are heavily present with the lack of under read, though, are always tagged.

To avoid plagiarism, we do not share much details of our original work on here and instead in dms if close, but, essentially, it touches upon the existing generations of beings known as Antigods, having meta awareness as a knowledge that they are a character in a fictional universe, and most Antigods are known to protect the Mundane and Miraculous from malicious spiritual entities called the Metaeide that are created after their own fears and traumas and negative emotions.

Our original lore prominently explores the meta genre as they are intertwined with all of Astereus’ verses and their versions. They can not be reduced or removed for any reasons and under any circumstances. If you do not have the energy or interest to work your muse into our lore, then please refrain from following us.

DNI CRITERIA.

☇ We do not interact with those who writes or have interest in the following characters and medias ( includes having verses for these medias regardless of being anti respective creator ) with *exceptions to close friends or us following first, but not limited to : Billy Hargrove, Endeavour, Makima, Helmut Zemo, Homelander, Jason Carver, John Winchester, Kilgrave, Soldier Boy, Stormfront, Negan Smith, William Afton, whitewashed MCU characters, and those affiliated with Hydra and First Order; medias of 13 Reasons Why, Attack on Titan, *Creepypasta, *Five Nights At Freddy's, *Game of Thrones + House of the Dragon, Hazbin Hotel + Helluva Boss, Hetalia, Killing Stalking, *The Boys + Gen V, The Mandela Catalogue, The Wizarding World ( i.e. Harry Potter ), Saltburn, *Succession, *Until Dawn + The Quarry.

Do not interact with us if you are a minor, fall under these criteria ( 1 + 2 ), use problematic faceclaims, support AI works, fetishize Asian individuals / are associated with the krpc, and interact with characters who are genuinely problematic ( racist, -phobe, N***, etcetera ) even when you say you do not condone or support a character.

Please let us know non-anonymously if we interact with someone who poses a community-wide threat, or if we’ve been doing or saying what is concerning to you.

If you infantilize Astereus or send most prompts that involve your muse giving them aid or comfort, it's a hardblock. Even though they are childish at times, don't treat or view them as a child in dialogues or descriptions if we don't know each other well.

Please get our side of the story before ushering judgement if heard anything about us. We’re always open to provide explanations and discuss as mature adults. Any anonymous asks about any issues we may be involved in or other parties in any shape or form, even if said with good intentions, will be blocked.

BLOG SYSTEM.

We often clean our Tumblr and Discord lists to avoid overwhelming atmospheres.

Hardblocks is always done to show it is our doing instead of Tumblr’s unless stated a softblock spree is done. We hardblock mainly if we sense that another have strict interaction expectations that we feel we can not fulfill or we lose a connection with them; it is usually not anything personal or because we expect anything out of them. If softblocked, we’ll hardblock to avoid confusion if it's Tumblr's doing or otherwise.

We break ties if we see vague / psa posts that we feel are targeted towards us.

We do not enjoy ghost mutuals as we tend to feel that we’re being used as a number, so we’d appreciate that our posts can be liked / commented at times for our comfort.

We usually do not follow our mutuals’ non-main blogs to keep a small dash, but you’re welcome to follow if so wish, though we will softblock while keeping your main if falling inactive or no interactions are done there.

INTERACTIONS.

Platonic, familial, and other such dynamics are okay to plot and develop, but romantic dynamics must be slow burn as it is built with the closeness between muses and muns.

Astereus is polygamous as every interactions per muse is set in a single storyline, so the interested muse will learn about this fact before they enter a relationship together.

If your muse can detect presences in Astereus’ body via heightened / supernatural senses, ask us if they can be aware their body is inhabited by multiple individuals first. Those with telepathic abilities, do not read their mind without asking us for consent.

We’re not comfortable with exploring toxic romantic dynamics along with plots involving amnesia and cheating. We are extremely selective with muses who have history of stalking and / or manipulation due to personal experiences with these matters, but if we follow first, then know we feel comfortable to follow this muse while being aware of their nature.

We do not engage with angst focused plots and threads often. We will approach if anything becomes overwhelming, but keep this in mind when interacting with us.

While we will specify a Starwaker, you do not have to as we can decide who can correlate best with the context and character.

Interactions with children Starwakers are reserved with closest writing partners only. Unless we’ve done excessive plotting and you have our direct consent, do not request for any younger Starwakers under any circumstances or you will be hardblocked.

Astereus have the Awareness, a special ability of awareness in the future while they and everyone else they interact with are a character in a continuous storyline, essentially treating Astereus’ Awareness as themself being omniscient, so they will learn certain things about your muse over time, but we will never take advantages out of this fact. Astereus will only know the basic details of your muse unless given consent to have them learn in-depth details.

OOC IMPORTANCE

Having emotional detachment as a defence mechanism that was developed over time, it is difficult for us to create and maintain personal connections, hence, we may often have trouble initiating conversations and replying consistently, but we try our best as we do want to interact in some ways. We may also appear as fleeting with us frequently cleaning our following + friends list as our ongoing amnesia and emotional detachment are major influences, but anything we do to curate our space is never meant to be a personal malicious intent.

We have ongoing amnesia, meaning we forget newly gained events over time, so please gently remind us if we forget anything important, in or out of character related. We will find out if you lie to or manipulate us with our amnesia taken to your advantage. Don't try.

As the alters of the Starwake System and DID are often referenced in and out of character, we also have DID. We are highly passionate of OSDDID while we wish there are more characters with either conditions accurately portrayed to raise awareness and have systems, including us, feel seen and validated. We are always welcome to answer questions regarding OSDDID out of curiosity or for characters + writings related. Any hate on OSDDID or judgment towards our plurality will never be tolerated. We've received hate many times for this and none of it had affected us, so just leave us be.

Thank you to everyone out there writing/drawing/creating such an incredible wealth of gorgeous material, I want to shout about it all the time and if I have loved your work and failed to tell you, I hope you'll forgive me.

I've broken the following down by theme/category - all gentlebeard-centric, mostly E-rated long fics because that's how it is.

Hell or High Water

There's one fic in this category and it's Hell or High Water (@mottlemoth, 250K+, WIP, E). I know you're already reading it but if you've somehow just emerged from a year-long coma and this is your first contact with the internet since your miraculous recovery, then please let me introduce you to Hell or High Water. This fic is a world unto itself - unreal l how many lines from this beast I think about on a regular basis.

Spectacular sci-fi where Ed is an engineer on a spaceship and STE/DE is the ship's AI. Poignant and tender and laden with moments that will take your breath away.

Ed is a glassblower and Stede is an unhappily married "straight" man who starts coming to the hot shop to watch him work; their relationship in this one is so organic and perfectly written. Already can't wait for the re-read.

Like HOHW, you're probably already reading this one, but if not then you should be! Every word of hype is deserved; this fic is so joyful and healing and tender, with a perfectly-in-character ensemble crew and the sweetest friends-to-lovers slow burn I've ever read.

Adorably awkward single-dad Stede hires heartwarmingly perfect nanny Ed to help with the kids, and it's as funny and sweet and satisfying as a great rom-com.

Metal dectorists AU! An unusual take on "Ed is the master of a world Stede has always dreamed of exploring," which is fuckin' metal detecting, that's right. Very fun and heartwarming.

New-bookstore-owner Stede and the hot guy who runs the bar next door. Digs into some of the thorniness of Stede's marriage/sexuality crisis, which leads to mounting UST and a searingly hot, planets-colliding payoff.

This fic breaks my heart but I just can't stop coming back to it - Ed goes to a molly house to try to get Stede out of his system. Guess who is also there, trying to process things? Achingly hot and angsty, with some excellent OCs to boot.

Delightfully funny and sweet fake-boyfriends trope and jealous misunderstandings when Stede's ex shows up and Ed helps Stede avoid him.

⬥Cabin Pressure by entanglednow -- 6K, E

Flaming hot "consequences of 'platonic' friends sleeping in the same bed" one-shot.

⬥Wayfaring by @justkeeptrekkin -- 35K, E

Another deserved fandom classic, Ed and Stede marooned together on an island, a gorgeous slow unfolding of the beautiful life they build together.

⬥If You Were Mine to Keep by Pamplemousse (@mysterybees) -- 75K+ (WIP), E

Incredibly sweet, romantic forced marriage story where Ed is made to marry an aristocrat and Stede agrees to be the one to marry him. Instant chemistry and a powerful friendship that slowly blossoms into more. Pure loveliness.

Fun Sex

My all-time favorite genre: zany sexual chemistry and adventures in sex positivity. "Erotic friendship," maybe? Whatever you call it, it's the best. Started compiling recs for this section and realized I had multiple fics for every author, so I'm going to recommend authors instead!

❖afterism (@onlylostphysics) -- creator of the exquisite, paradigm-shifting "kissing is what lovers do" series, an S1 canon-parallel in which Ed and Stede become friends with benefits from day one. Pure perfection, every installment is hot and beautiful as a standalone or in series but I particularly love elegant and restrained (Ed orchestrates his own ravishment under the guise of teaching Stede how to handle a hostage), and all dressed up (fingering and playful orgasm denial and Ed being head over heels in love, just mind-meltingly hot and romantic).

❖alsaurus (@ofmd-alsaurus) -- another who can do no wrong in my book. Every fic is so sweet and sexy and uniquely hilarious; I'm particularly partial to Good Habits (Stede has an unusual way of getting off, Ed likes to watch) and There's No Accounting for Taste (Ed tries to set a sexy trap and things go off the rails).

❖Jimsnose (alivamae) -- snappy and hot and always deliciously unpredictable, I love everything they've written but especially The Theater of Fear (Stede helps Ed cope with the guilt of nearly killing him through the healing magic of roleplay)(seriously though this fic is so delightful I just got pulled into another re-read) and Golden Teachers (Ed introduces Stede to magic mushrooms)(I am a sucker for low-stakes recreational drug use in fics and this one is exquisite, now with searingly-hot sequel Penis Envy).

❖heartroots (@bonesofyourheart) -- another master of the hot/funny/sweet/endearing/hot again genre blending, especially Aphrodisiac (Stede struggles with finishing too quickly and tries a magic potion to help him last longer) and If You're Too Shy, Then Let Me (Stede gets an "accidental" front-row seat to Ed's alone time).

House Specials

Finally, a few of my own fics I'm especially proud of - check them out if you like!

⬥Touching Your Goodness -- E, 14K

Ed and Stede are back together but not yet Back Together when two strangers come into the mix and make them both jealous - mutual pining and comedic misunderstandings with bonus POTC (Sparrow/Norrington) crossover.

⬥Skeleton Season -- 8K, E

Smut and fluff after Stede gets cursed by some famously haunted treasure. Just in time for the Halloween season!

⬥The Healing Kind -- 22K, E

Post-S1 reunion where Ed is depressed and self-destructive, and Izzy teams up with Lucius and Mary to get him back together with Stede: angst to hurt/comfort to fluff to smut.

⬥Such as They May Be -- 6K, E

A lighthearted "Stede catches up with the Revenge" fix-it where Ed can't help loving Stede's newfound confidence.

Hi! ♥️ I really want to share a review of your wonderful fanfic The Queen and the Prince Consort. You literally fulfilled my dream by writing the perfect rhaegon marriage. Your Aegon and Rhaenyra have amazing chemistry!

Author, it was perfect and wonderful! The Queen and the Prince Consort took out my whole soul and smeared it, I haven't felt so much for a long time. The feeling of unreal romantic chemistry after reading seemed to migrate into my real life, I was so deeply imbued with everything. I read the first chapters slowly at first, after the fifth I was literally everywhere - at work, at home, in the morning, at night, I read something again. It took without a trace.

I finished reading and remained in a state of shock, it is still unknown how long I will think about the whole story. Thank you!

Farcille are soulmates but I just Know something happened between Marcille & Namari. Not even romantic I just know something happened. An exploration of each other’s bodies or just the thought of it or SOMETHING I know something happened!!!!! A true yuri warrior can find it in anything but it’s there literally. Chemistry that is. But, Also I just generally love Namari so so much it’s unreal. I really like her. Her development & her general charm & also her gap moe with how easily she gets embarrassed. It had me stimming and everything, especially by the end of it even though it was love at first sight… also BWAAH the cliffhanger of episode 10 I’m gonna barf. But it’s so wonderfully crafted this thing like I’m always left in awe by the worldbuilding & how everything just clicks into place so nicely & all the species and monsters and stuff kyaaaa it’s so awesome it’s so awesome it’s so awesome, I always wish I could be that creative >_< I’ve seen a lot from the manga & things like that time the creator drew each character as all the main races & stuff and it’s just like waaah… I love senshi he’s just so wise & so dope I keep finding myself nodding my head along to him & calling him so dope aloud… he’s been my friend since before I watched though. Well I don’t like that stupid old guy who appeared recently but I like the lady, his wife I think, because of the pansy in her hair and that’s it to be honest. I’m curious about Kabru… ya. What are your Thane/Steve headcanons? Would Thane call Steve Siha, or would he use a variant or different name? Does Steve have a favored thing he calls Thane? Where do they retire after the reapers? Bonus question for fun: What's Shepard up to (or not up to) in their canon?

General headcanons: Thane lives, having got kepral's treament from Mordin and Miranda at the end of ME2, he decided to do it to have more time repairing his relationship with Kolyat, and with the loving support of his new Normandy family. He and Steve meet pretty much the way the Shepard/Cortez romance plays out in 3. There's an instant spark, but they tread carefully and measured, as they are both such careful measured men themselves, and Steve is still reconciling his mourning. Thane is a great comfort through that and they grow close, eventually becoming romantic. Their romance is sizzling, they have excellent chemistry and are just so deeply into each other it's unreal. Steve fully becomes part of the Krios family over time, marrying Thane, being stepdad to Kolyat, dad in law to Feron and grandad to Mina. Would Thane call Steve Siha? I have considered this one a lot myself and this has prompted me to finally finish up my ideas. First off: Steve is a protector of sorts, so Thane could absolutely call him Siha and it would work beautifully! With their range of gods and angels there could be a name more suited to Steve specifically however, which is what I have worked on. (and I think even as platonic friends, Thane would still see Shepard as a siha. But maybe he’s hit the triple siha jackpot). My idea i’ve worked on is: Melithas When a drell of the old gods see’s a shooting star, they offer a prayer to these angels of the fates. For surely these scouts are doing work of great importance, weathering the roiling seas of creation and destruction to weave together the tapestry of life as the God’s will it. In the greater drell common tongue lexicon, melithas has endured as simply a way to describe shooting stars, meteors and comets visible from a planets surface. There’s something about Thane calling him his shooting star that is making me very soft. But if this ask is secret santa and you are writing and don’t want to have to aside for a long winded explanation of his nickname, siha is absolutely fine, as is any made up name of your own! You are also welcome to take melithas and roll with it in whatever way your brain goes. Regular pet names like sweetheart also work. Does Steve have a favoured thing he calls Thane I think Steve is very generous with his affectionate naming conventions, but is of course a consummate professional in his work, so it will be situational. My sweet, love, my love, darling, sweetheart etc. And during more vulnerable, intimate moments he gets more syrupy sweet, especially when being praising/encouraging. Thane is a strong guy but when he gets to be a melted puddle of goo with Steve he absolutely loves being coddled and that’s when the more syrupy names from Steve like baby and sugar come out to play. Bonus points if you can get a kitten in there without it sounding like a shitpost lmao

Where do they retire after the reapers?Ooh that’s a tougher one. Steve I feel can be happy just about anywhere with his skills as pilot and requisitions being useful on all sorts of ports, planets and stations alike. He’d also make an excellent piloting teacher. Thane is the tougher one. I like to think that Thane has grown and wisened enough to realise he can be more than his training, or can at least adjust his training, and isn’t stuck as “assassin or fail and die” mode still. I have all those kolyat x Feron headcanons with them getting married and having a kid (Mina), working as information gatherers for Liara the shadow broker but moving from mostly field based work to mostly work from home research roles once kiddo arrives. So maybe they settle on a station somewhere when they have a kid, somewhere with good ports to do small journeys regularly, and Thane and Steve decide to semi retire on the same station to be with their family and also do similar work. Thane would have some basic grasp of how to research marks, Kolyat trains him in greater general research techniques (and just imagine the hilarity of Kolyat teaching Thane, I'm sure some sparks flew at times) and Thane splits his time between home office based extranet sleuthing with kolyat, and occasional field work with Feron (planting monitoring devices, making information trades, that sort of thing). Steve ferries them around, and otherwise teaches piloting lessons from the port. Maybe Shepard makes sure Steve gets a really nice small ship/luxury shuttle as a retirement from the alliance/post war thank you gift. Sorry that was a bit meandering let me sum up a bit more clearly : they semi retire on a nice big comfy station, could be the citadel, could be a made up one. They have a great apartment filled with comfy nick nacks, and as they are in a hub location Normandy friends drop by all the time. Steve still gets to fly, doing lessons and occasionally taking Feron and Thane to jobs. Thane gets to spend time with his kids and grandkid, and still use his skills on a part time basis doing a little light espionage for Liara. They work in little bursts as needed, and spend the rest of the time enjoying each other, the multi cultural fun of the station, and babysitting their granddaughter.

What's Shepard up to (or not up to) in their canon? I have no specific headcanons for a Shepard in the Kriotez universe. I have a vague idea of it being a Shepard that is in a relationship with Liara, romantic or just a very deep loving platonic friendship, and post war (Shep survives) they work together running the shadow broker business (as a force for good, mostly using it to keep a check on all those pesky backstabbing governments and corpos making sure they aren’t using post war turmoil to do shady shit, and also making sure that extranet and logistics is able to reach outer systems). Shepard absolutely adores Thane and Steve and was stupidly giddily excited when they got together and lost their shit when asked to officiate their marriage, Shep ships them! No specific gender/looks/names for this Shep.

Myrcella and Trystane had better chemistry than Jonerys despite less screen time. Myrcella had better reaction of her parentage as it was more family moment than Jon parentage.

They were so sweet!

It’s absolutely baffling to me that D&D had no trouble delivering romantic pairings that were believable except for their epic romance of the series. I personally don’t hold the actors responsible or even really blame lack of chemistry (in the 8x04 scene Kit acted Jon kissing Dany just fine), and think the problem was in the writing and D&D’s failure to decide what they were doing?

I wrote this a few years ago:

It’s so weird that D&D wanted to present J*nerys as forbidden love when the only thing that prevented them from getting together in s7 was…nothing.

Tyrion and Dany planned for a strategic marriage back in s6, we even have the Littlefinger/Sansa convo in s7 to clarify that a Jon/Dany marriage would make the most political sense, and Jon might “want” to marry her.

If they were meant to be a parallel to Jon/Ygritte, love between two soldiers on opposite sides of the war…well, that just doesn’t work when Jon and Dany are the ones in power. If J*nerys was meant to be a parallel to Rhaegar/Lyanna…that comparison doesn’t make sense because a Jon/Dany union would have been the political solution, not a problem (pre-parentage reveal). Missandei dismisses the bastard issue, and since a marriage alliance would could have ended their stalemate in s7, the writers left no reason for Jon (or the advisers) not to suggest it. And it would have been far more believable that Jon suggest that than try to father a bastard with Dany (considering his trauma surrounding that issue). The only in-world reason they left us with for why Jon didn’t suggest marriage during s7 is that he didn’t want to.

It was on the writers’ minds because of that convo between Littlefinger and Sansa, so clearly they thought of it and just opted never to explain it in s8. Which means D&D tied the culmination of the show to a relationship that they hoped we would see as star-crossed love when the story they gave us said it wasn’t.

And, not only did they not pick a specific approach to make it overall make sense, they didn’t have heartwarming moments where J/D seemed to actually connect as equals. All their scenes involved political disagreements or reminders of Dany’s ambition. Well, all but the sex scene but they didn’t give any context for that, we just had them and Bran’s voiceover (he did nothing to deserve that!) in a very off-putting scene. The decisions were all so determinedly bad with them! I have watched couples that make me care about them in-spite of awful writing, but it’s unreal to me that D&D didn’t actually sit down and figure out what their angle was and the result was a toxic mess. So much of the impact of the finale rested on the horror of Jon killing Dany that it is inexcusable they failed there. I suppose at that point they could have been so checked out that they didn’t make sure the scripts aligned, but we’ve been told how they micromanage the performances so without a coherent thought behind the J/D story, and with them feeding ideas without a clear picture of what they were up to, I think they made it very difficult for the actors to do much.

Anyway, it really is amazing that such a huge chunk of s7 was dedicated to getting J/D to bang, and everyone (fans and critics) complained about how awful the relationship was while D&D had no difficulty with delivering other romantic pairings like Myrcella and Trystane that weren’t as pivotal to the ending of the series. I think that habit of changing the story in the editing process bit them in the ass big time with J/D because that relationship was just so jarring, I have to think they were going back and forth on different ideas and that contributed to how off it was. I wasn’t a shipper, was the most casual of fans when I first watched s7, but I didn’t enjoy any of their scenes. All were deeply unpleasant, and usually, there’s a breaking point where the characters connect emotionally and it draws you in and you see how they’re good for each other/make each other happy/or if it’s a toxic ship, you have that undeniable chemistry and believe they’re inexorably drawn to each other. But nope! I got nothin. When I watched the finale I thought D&D had been working against their own story during s7-8, and I still can’t figure out what the hell they were thinking.

I agree about Myrcella’s parentage reveal too. I can still remember her face when she’s talking to Jaime. It was presented in an emotional/relational context which makes it matter to the audience, but I actually can’t remember the specific words Jon says when he’s told, just that he was angry and stormed away. He tells Dany “it’s true. I know it is” so we know he accepts it, but I don’t know what to make of his feelings. Is he upset with Rhaegar? Ned? Is he ok with being a Targ? Did he wish he wasn’t? How did he come to accept it so quickly? What inside of him told him this was true? None of that mattered to D&D, they wanted to get Dany angry, isolated, and paranoid. That was all the use they had for parentage reveal. 😩

in lieu of a bachelorette party

we're officially in the period of the summer that has been planned out since months and months ago, in the lead up to some dear friends' wedding; time is telescoping in a very odd way! after traveling the past two weeks, my re-entry was good but hard; i came back from my trip thinking i'd be all revitalized and looking around me with new eyes, which in a way i did, but then i was also pretty wiped. i didn't really want to spend all week hibernating, but i guess it was good to recharge my batteries since i also had five different party/gathering-type things (three this weekend, including the aforementioned bachelorette).

reading can't forget to mention finishing carmen maria machado's in the dreamhouse, which was gripping and devastating and still beautiful somehow. the experience of reading it was so...i couldn't stop once i got started, you know? short fragmented chapters, some funny, some incredibly sad. every once in a while there would be a detail or an allusion to something i could relate to, punctuating the intense surreality / unreality used to talk about the abuse with a sudden concrete reality that was. striking. loved the device of the footnotes, pointing out where certain things are matching up with folklore tropes? as a form of foreshadowing and ironic, devastating commentary? inspired. that's just one detail, but it's one i can sum up.

abrupt tonal shift and getting back to fantasy / adventure, a.k. larkwood's the unspoken name has been very engaging this week too. part one was...fresh but in a comforting sort of vein, with a young protag escaping a bad fate under the protection of a new mysterious mentor, who then helps her get an education, martial arts training, before he sends her out on a mission--reminded me of half a dozen beloved fantasy novels, with the addition of some fun details! for example, neither is actually described in much detail, but our main character and her mentor are clearly not Human; she has grey skin and tusks (my mind went right to a dnd-style orc?) and he has mobile, elongated ears, which seem to telegraph his emotions much like those in the goblin emperor and was an *immediate* delight to envision. just about a third of the way through this one now; it feels like a locked tomb book with a slightly different magic system, and i'm really enjoying it.

watching plane movies while returning home:

the battle of the sexes (2017) -- entertaining more because i didn't know the history and always enjoy the depiction of historical women's sports and sports teams; emma stone is great but has virtually no chemistry with either of her romantic counterparts, painfully straight energy overall. i was too entertained by watching steve carell and sarah silverman in their respective period hair and makeup . kudos to whoever was the tennis stunt doubles, it was legitimately fun to try and follow the games.

banshees of inisherin (2022) -- people who talk about the overdone stereotyped blarney-filled hollywood depiction of ireland in this one are missing the fact that it's an intentional (ironic?) depiction; see, the imprecision when it comes to year/time passing / calendars and whatnot. sort of waiting for godot-y in its heightened reality / absurdity. my lukewarm take is that it was definitely meant to be a play, and would have worked a lot better that way. not sure i'll watch it again, not sure i *got* it, but it will certainly live in my brain rent-free.

finished strange world (2022) as a palate cleanser-- i wanted to support it, the box office and overall reception to this was pretty disappointing but it's fine! like it's a cute kids' movie! you know, disney's first gay character, thinly veiled climate analogy lesson, absolutely gorgeous animation and colors, what's not to love.

the first three episodes of season 1 of the white lotus . hypnotizing like a train wreck, but i'll wait until i've seen more of it to give a real write-up.

listening you ever watch a viral video and then realize you're captivated by both the cute videos of people dancing and the soundtrack? (and recognizing the background scenery, and it turns out i was right!!) anyway i went and found these two tracks courtesy of just this experience, so thanks to youtuber thoraya i guess?

UPDATE: saw hadestown live today!!! the original broadway recording didn't prepare me for how much i would love it, how dynamic and captivating the live band and incredible ensemble would be-- and of course i was crying almost immediately, and was clutching my chest during 'wait for me' both times. but then again, the performance i saw didn't include this one instrumental track i love and had on my semester playlist all spring, so here:

playing finally got the cut-scene celebrating my community center completion in stardew, hell yeah. had two great dnd sessions; one campaign successfully defeated a monstrously-oversized jaguar and decided which faction we're going to attempt to win over first, while the other group went shopping and spent some downtime at base and gathering info on some individual plots! napoleon did exist in this world and was a gnome, and our organization assassinated him apparently??, also this just feels like a good time to mention that their resume also includes '1841 – Controlled controversy riots when “Dinosaurs” suggested as a creature alongside and separate from “Dragons” ', which sent us into absolute hysterics when the DM shared that.

making it's summer, so i crowdsourced a ratatouille recipe and could not have been happier with the outcome. saving it here for posterity!

working on i was very diligent with RA work this week, since it feels like i always neglect it over the summer for absolutely no reason, especially since it like. pays me. but i also have been using it as productive procrastination since i'm actively dragging my heels in sending the last few students their essay feedback and grade breakdowns from the summer course. it means confronting my judgments and math and possible mistakes from earlier in july, and trying to either defend or amend them as necessary, and i just have been. napping rather than actually do it. which is silly, and also stupid since i have actual work to be doing! just get this over with, and you can be free!
