What to watch during the writer's strike:

Don't pay attention to companies who blame writers for delayed movies and television shows! The WGA strike comes from people who are trying to make things better - not only for themselves and other writers, but the films and tv shows we all love.

While we wait for a resolution, I thought I would share some existing television shows that I enjoy. I didn't bother with too much well-known stuff. Instead, I focused on shows I feel many people missed because of the glut of content that all premiered at once over the last few years. (I may make another one of these for movies later on, but this one is about tv.)

Netflix:

The Good Place (2016-2020) - A 'bad' woman is accidentally sent to heaven. She and her moral philosophy professor of a soulmate try to save her soul by making her a better person. Genre: Comedy with deeper implications and one of the best endings in television history.

Russian Doll (2019-2022) - When Nadia dies at her birthday party, she's more than a little confused to come back. Especially when it keeps happening. Genre: Time loop drama with a wicked sense of humor and a dash of theoretical physics. Potentially not ended?

Narcos (2015-2017) - The fight of the American DEA and the Colombian army against cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and his reign of terror. Genre: Drama with thrilling elements. Lots of violence, some sex and language. Lots of subtitles. Features Pedro Pascal and Boyd Holbrook, if you need some extra incentive.

Derry Girls (2018-2022) - Five teens grow up in Derry, Ireland in the 1990s, amid the final years of the Troubles, a low-level war that lasted roughly 30 years. Genre: Comedy. Some sexual content, some religious content, less violence than you would expect, and the best nun ever to appear on film.

Arcane (2021-?) - Two sisters are alienated when one accidentally kills their adoptive father. Their different paths threaten the fragile peace of a city already on the breaking point. Genre: Drama with elements of action-adventure. Though it's animated, Arcane's animation is beautifully done with tantalizing steampunk elements that will keep you invested.

Disney+:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020) - If you haven't seen any of the Star Wars animated series, this is a good place to start. Set in the time gap between Episode II and Episode III, this series helps flesh out Anakin Skywalker and the Jedi. It is also a great introduction to some of the characters and plots of The Mandalorian. (Star Wars: Rebels is another good choice.) Genre: Adventure with some drama. Violence and death are a large part of The Clone Wars, but it's usually appropriate for children. The clone troopers will steal your heart!

Gravity Falls (2012-2016) - Dipper Pines and his sister Mabel are sent to Gravity Falls, Oregon to live with their great-uncle for their summer break. But when Dipper finds a mysterious book in the woods, the pair find that Gravity Falls is far more mysterious than it seems... Genre: Adventure with a lot of comedy. Though it's billed as a children's cartoon, Gravity Falls is an intriguing watch with mystery subplots that will keep anyone guessing. It also features a famously strong and cohesive series ending. I was in my late 20s when I first watched this and I was still invested!

Daredevil (2015-2018) - After being blinded as a young boy, Matthew Murdock trained his other senses to replace the sight that he lost. He uses his skills to protect the helpless in the New York City neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. Genre: Action and superhero. Features a lot of incredibly choreographed violence. (Jessica Jones is also an excellent show to watch, especially if you think of David Tennant as the consummate 'good guy'. He's got range!)

HBO Max (Just 'Max' now, I guess):

Ghosts (2019-2023) - Petty roommate squabbles don't stop just because you're dead! Alison and her husband Mike inherit a house, then a near-death experience allows Alison to see its ghostly inhabitants. Chaos and humor ensue as the ghosts try to adjust to the house's new owners. Genre: Humor. Ghosts is a British sitcom, but since the writers are comedians (writing and performing in Horrible Histories), the show is done in a style that feels more natural to American viewers. Hint: watch the BBC version, not the American one. They're fairly similar, but definitely not the same!

Pushing Daisies (2007-2009) - A pie-maker with the ability to bring back the dead helps to solve murders. He's helped by his once-dead childhood sweetheart. Genre: Comedy with some dramatic elements. Some of the CGI-heavy moments haven't aged particularly well, but the show has a unique premise and an incredibly talented cast!

Hulu:

Abbott Elementary (2021-?) - This mockumentary series showcases an inner-city elementary school in Philadelphia. The teachers and administration do their best for the kids, but they're constrained by budgets and the limitations of the educational system itself. Genre: Comedy mockumentary. Though Abbott Elementary is fictional, some of the issues brought up are all too real. This is a funny and incisive look at the American public school system.

Amazon Prime:

Fleabag (2016-2019) - The unnamed protagonist of the show struggles through life on her own with limited support from her alienated family and the memories of her recently deceased best friend. Genre: Comedy with lots of dramatic elements. Lots of sexual content and references, some language, breaking the fourth-wall, and several characters you just long to hit. I watched the second season in a single day, that's how good this was.

Unknown Streaming Service:

Black Sails (2014-2017) - This prequel to Treasure Island features elements from the book, original characters, and real pirates from history in a setting that emphasizes realism. Captain Flint and his crew search for a legendary prize... one that might allow them to claim Nassau for their own. Genre: Action and adventure. Think Game of Thrones, but with pirates. Incredibly well-written and well-acted with gorgeous scenery, LGBTQ representation, and just enough historical accuracy to keep things grounded. Black Sails also boasts one of the best endings ever given for a television show.

Like I said, please feel free to reblog and add your own television show recommendations onto this list! There are plenty of things to watch and plenty of ways to support the WGA strike that don't involve giving in to big studios.

After another re-watch and the head to pay attention to the small details, perhaps I have reconstructed a possible

Timeline of Helluva Boss

It would be better to define them as hypotheses. First of all, here is an outline of the episodes and their release dates.

I know, I also included the one whose title we know, just for the sake of general overview. The theory for the moment covers 2 seasons out of 4 announced.

Here the synthetic timeline. From the estimate version I have removed the year here, we'll get to the reason.

Here I also report some of my thoughts:

Already from the first episodes there's a strong focus on clocks and time, it is much more striking in Oops, where Asmodeus' clock marks the whole day.

I'm not sure about the year, but also from the analyzes carried out later, 2021 could be the year of the narrative arc that goes from Murder Family to Ozzie's.

(*) The Verosika's tour t-shirt was official and linked to the episode, at the moment I'm undecided on its validity at the year level, althought the date could be very possible.

However, my research started with Seeing Stars because it's the first episode to feature an almost specific date: the 20th of a 30-day month.

In my opinion it could be April chronologically and it's agreed with the information in the subsequent episodes.

The only problem is that the full moon would't coincide with what was marked by Blitz.

Noteworthy:

Blitz's calendar suggests that the full moon that month is the 14th.

Stolas wrote in the Western Energy chat that Blitz was supposed to come that evening and that therefore the full moon was the 20th.

We are certainly either in 2021 or beyond given Moxxie's coin in Seeing Stars.

From the chat we can understand that:

About a month passes between the trio Ozzie's - Queen Bee - The Circus (1 moon)

About 3 months (3 moons) pass between Seeing Stars and Western Energy

Western Energy is placed a week before Oops and among these the week told in Unhappy Campers

From Millie's flyer we know that her and Moxxie's mission ends on Friday July 17th. We know from Blitz that this lasted a week, so it started on Monday 13th July.

According to what Striker says to Crisom, Western Energy should be set around July 11th and Oops around July 18th.

We should be in 2022 though, but in that case July 17th was a Sunday.

In Mammon's magnificent concert Blitz says on the call with Ozzie that it's a weekend.

There are two options:

It could be set on the week parallel (July 21-22th or 28-29th) to the events of Western-Unhappy-Oops.

It could be set on the following month (August).

Here we come to the gap:

(*) The Mammon's official t-shirt is clearly linked to the episode, but the date (2023) and month (October) cause the information to conflict.

So, at this point we have this options:

The official t-shirts are tied exclusively to the release date of the episode.

They are official or at the date level, or at the year level.

They're official and we're actually 2 years removed from Murder Family.

I think it is more canonical to consider a connection with the month of July shown in the episode and maintain the hypothesis.

Wester Energy to Oops -> July

Full Moon → September 29th

low quality video ➜ "HD" gifs tutorial! (2022 UPDATE!)

back by popular demand. warning, this is a work in progress! so far I have found this is the best way to restore low quality movie videos into somewhat clear and “hd” gifs. I will update if I discover anything different (:

this works on movies/videos in 720p and lower

you must have basic gif making knowledge

I'm using adobe photoshop cc 23.4.1 (2022) for windows

TUTORIAL UNDER THE CUT 🔽

so this tutorial is going to show you how to create the ILLUSION of high quality and film grain in your gifs just by using smart filters, coloring, and the filter gallery tab! this trick works on 720p, 480p, 360p, and 144p resolutions

1. MAKE YOUR GIF BASE

I’ll be using a scene from hello mary lou: prom night 2 in a *really* gross 480px lol

2. RESIZE YOUR GIF

ctrl + alt + “I”

These are my resizing settings (copy these). 

Resampling your gif under the ‘preserve details 2.0′ option allows you to resize your gif without losing those small details - essentially making your gif sharper.

⭐ please note that gifs will look better if resized to 268px instead of 540px as its easier to hide low quality trails that remain in the end.

3. ADD ‘SMART SHARPEN’ FILTER

filter ➤ sharpen ➤ smart sharpen...

When adding your smart sharpening layer, be sure to unselect More Accurate from the drop down menu at the top. (You can access this menu by clicking the gear in the right hand corner)

Unselecting this option will add more sharpness to the highlights and shadows of your gif, which is essential for this trick to work

⭐ of course if you have preferred sharpening settings, feel free to use those instead!

3. ADD ANOTHER ‘SMART SHARPEN’ LAYER

filter ➤ sharpen ➤ smart sharpen...

Copy these settings

Keep the More Accurate option SELECTED for this layer!!!

4. CREATING FILM GRAIN

filter ➤ filter gallery... ➤ texture ➤ grain

These settings will depend on what you think looks best! For this gif, these are the settings I ended up with

Be sure that the “Soft” option is selected from the drop down menu. Its the cleanest grain filter photoshop offers and its the closest you’ll get to grain used in films

The intensity will depend on you and what your gif needs. Don’t go too crazy here. Keep the number low (no higher than 10) 

Contrast will generally stay in the 50′s but if you need more black areas in your gif feel free to push that number a bit

⭐ Don’t get too attached to these right now as they may change throughout your process!

4.2. ARRANGING SMART LAYERS

MUY IMPORTANTE!!!!

In order to get that sharp grain look, you’ll need to place the “Filter Gallery” layer beneath the 2 smart sharpen layers like in the pic above

Edit your grain settings as needed!

5. COLOR COLOR COLOR

After all of that is said and done, add your coloring! Try to push the shadows and add more black in your 'selective color' adjustment layer just to give your gif more contrast. This will clean up the pixel-y blacks and make your gif look a bit nicer to look at. Again this will all depend on what you’re looking for and what you think looks best!

6. SAVE!

Once you're satisfied with how your gif looks, alt + ctrl + shift + “S” and you're done! Here are my save for web settings

End notes/tips!

This trick will not work on every low quality movie

Please play around with the sharpening, grain, and color settings to find the best version for you!

The higher the quality of the video (720p, 1080p dvd) the less grain you will need to add

Again, gifs look even better if they are put into 2 column posts instead of a single column (268px instead of 540px)

The grain filter will unfortunately make your gif size very large which is something I havent been able to work around

And once more for the people in the back - this is FAKE HD, it won't turn your 480p video into a crisp blu-ray 1080p quality. it just gives an illusion of higher quality 🤠

Mods to Make School Better (High School Years + Discover University)

I really love The Sims 4, but I love The Sims 4 because I play a heavily modded game. I know that option isn’t for everyone, but for those who do... Sometimes it’s hard to know where to look. It’s like when you’re hungry and you open up your food delivery service of choice and are just overwhelmed by the options these days.

Luckily... I look around a lot.

This post is inspired by the other amazing posts here, here, here and of course here. It started as something just for High School Years but grew... very quickly...

This list was last updated 17 September 2022 / Patch 1.91.205.

More Students at High School (Ksuihuh) OR High School More Class Mates (Aramiteus)

Use one or the other here and read the descriptions because if you use Aramiteus’ version, you need to change MCCC Maximum Sims on Lot Value to about 40. 

The main draw is that more students will be on the High School lot. Aramiteus’ mod also adds 2 other teachers and an extra lunch person dependent on how many whiteboards/cafeterias you have on lot. It also requires you to choose your classmates before going to school.

Ksuihuh’s version comes with a script mod to increase the numbers of sims on the lot, as well an extra mod for an extra lunch person. It does not make you pick the sims going to class--you will need Rex’s Choose High School Classmates mod to ensure the sims you want are going to show up to school!

ChippedSim’s High School Tweaks

ChippedSim calls these “tweaks” but a full Active Class experience overhaul is a bit more than that in my opinion! 

Please note that updates are coming to this mod ACTIVELY - just today I saw that there were more in class interactions for the Active Classes! So keep an eye out on tumblr or twitter.

ChippedSim also overhauled the lockers so that you can keep more thing in there, as well as buy some stuff! Take a look at the full breakdown here, but I can’t recommend this enough.

ADeepIndigo’s Small High School Years Tweaks

Yes, I’m saying just download the whole lot.

More Discipline adds Parenthood compatibility--you can now discipline your kids for misbehaving/sneaking out/getting expelled. Why wasn’t that included by default? Ask EA, and thank ADeepIndigo in the meantime.

More Fun Pier Rides does what it says: raises the fun meter more!

Less Random Crushes makes it so that crushes are determined by Sims’ personalities instead of just randomly occurring.

Shop for Prom Outfit is just a really cute idea! It costs $100 to buy a prom outfit, and that can only be done once prom is announced.

My favorite has to be More Locker Notes. Don’t just let your sims cyberbully on Social Bunny. Let them passive-aggressively do it in person too.

ADeepIndigo’s Dynamic Teen Life

As of writing this, the mod is still in testing but I’ve been playing with it in my game for a few days and I’m still playing around with it, but it already adds sooo much more to my teen’s lives. More afterschool activities, popularity and cliques, new journal entries (for the Parenthood journals).... Gossip, rumors and having to actually try out to join the cheerleading squad.

Oh yes, I think this’ll become not just an essential mod for HSY users, but for most legacy players as well.

MissyHissy’s Form Groups in School

I won’t be surprised if MissyHissy comes out with some more mods but this is the one from their tweaks I’m currently using. EA didn’t let groups form in school which... you know, you’d think they’d want some cross-compatibility with previous packs to allow for literal cliquey behaviors but.

Anyway, this fixes that!

Lot51.cc’s Fashion Authority

I haven’t played much with this yet for high school but have it in my game for other reasons. This mod lets you take control of townie outfits... Including situation ones, and can restrict by regions. This is excellent if you want to have your sims wear a uniform to Copperdale, for instance, or you have a specific cheerleading uniform in mind, etc.

LittleMsSam’s HSY Bug Fixes

Hopefully we will not need these forever. Until they are patched though...

Take Exam Fix - stops sims from just getting up five minutes after the exam.

NPC Relationship Autonomy Fix - are you tired of random sims barging in, asking you to be BFFs after you added them on Social Bunny? fear not, because this should curb NPCs’ stalking you.

High School Promote Fix - helps the game promote sims from Cs to Bs if they’ve been going to school actively the whole time...

Stop Phone Change Color Obsession - I needed this one bad. Stops sims from changing their phone color every time they visited a new lot, and removed the camera focus as well

Ilkavelle’s Check Events & Sneak Out

A tiny little mod by Ilkavelle to help your sims sneak out, if they haven’t been getting invited out by their classmates!

Ilkavelle’s Teen Aspiration Bundle

I didn’t link this before as the teen aspirations hadn’t been updated to work with high school years... But now they have! This adds a few more teen-only aspirations for your sims (Prom Royalty, Overachiever, Towards Independence and Teenage Rebellion). 

ADeepIndigo’s Summer Camps

We’re moving away from High School Years fixes and enhancements straight over to the joys of gameplay. This mod adds Summer Camps to the game which is... actually really super fun? Summer Camp is for children and teen sims; there are a variety of different camps to send your kids off to. This isn’t an active experience; it’s a rabbit hole “job” that replaces school, and there are both day camps and away camps. It’s also ONLY available during the summer, and camp automatically ends when summer does.

Simston Private School [originally by SHEnanigans, adopted by ADeepIndigo]

ADeepIndigo adopted this mod by SHEnanigans after she was hired by EA, and updated it for the most recent patch. There’s not a current write-up about this mod available from a modding source, but there is a review by SnootySims that you can read, or you can read this capture from the Wayback Machine.

This mod recreates the TS2 Headmaster Visit event - if you pass, your child/teen is then enrolled in Private School. No more basic public school for your snooty rich sims!

Homework Tweaks & Subject Homework [originally by Scarlet, adopted by LittleMsSam]

I’ve had this so long, I genuinely forgot how long sims take to do homework. This mod comes in a few different flavors, but it makes sims do their homework... faster! Time is money, right?

Subject Homework also allows sims to raise skill while doing their homework. There’s a couple different options for what homework they can do, and I personally like to try to match it to what class my sims had in High School that day [maybe they write a persuasive essay after Social Studies, etc].

Zero’s University Custom Degrees & Tweaks/Fixes

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you’ve played TS4 a lot, and you’re tired of all those regular degrees. Maybe you’re a little annoyed that completing university plays into the lie we American millennials were told that going to college is the fast track to riches. Well fear not, because not only does this mod add 15 custom degrees, it also overhauls how degrees play into careers if you want it to.

This is very modular so read the post carefully. I personally play with Zero’s tunings, because I also use University Costs More, Higher Scholarships and  Harder Distinguished Degree Acceptance, as well as the Required Degree for Promotion that’s in optional folder. I know TS4 is a fantasy where I can have vampires and werewolves and also secret agents but I also like to make life hard on myself.

If you just want the Custom Degrees, good news: there’s also a file that goes by EA’s tunings so you don’t need to have everything cost an arm, leg and house or require degrees for jobs or anything. 

There are other tweaks available, mostly to adjust the autonomy from roommates in dorms.

Revy’s Get Back your Presentation Board

I don’t want to talk about all the times I’ve lost my presentation board. This mod provides a way to get it back. You just have to email your professor.

LittleMsSam’s Choose your Roommate

Lets you pick your dormmates or roommates :’) Great if you have a specific storyline in mind and already have the classmates picked out. This is another mod that has steps so read the post carefully. You can also pair it with LittleMsSam’s Chores mod to set up cleaning rotations :)

Zerbu’s Go to School V5 [Builder’s Tools]

Did you think I’d leave out the child stage? I’m not EA. I’m including this one here as while its actively in development, builders can get started building elementary schools now. You can also read Zerbu’s plans for elementary school here. I would not recommend using the old mod for now, as its considered unsupported and will be replaced by the new version requiring HSY.

But until then, I’m keeping it here as I know Go to School is a long running mod. V4 is here.

Ilkavelle’s Children Aspiration Bundle

Tired of the same 4 aspirations for each kid? Me too!! This mod adds four new aspirations for your kids to complete: Little Entrepreneur, School Star, Little Explorer and Voidcritters Master.

School Trip: take a trip with your class to a museum or park!

Science Fair: yes, HSY has a science fair too, but this is an active event for kids as well! Compete in a science fair against your peers, and perhaps be judged as the best

Debate Event: let your future lawyers compete against each other, starting from grade school. These events can also be attended by teens, in case you want them to go to debate club as well

Talent Contest: well if there’s a science fair, your artsy students should also get a chance to show off, right? This one isn’t required but it is a really cute idea.

Ilkavelle’s One Time Jobs for Teens & Kids

One of the childhood aspiration add-ons is about making some money as a kid. This allows kids to take up some jobs around the neighborhood (pet sitting, dog walking, lemonade stand, etc). Just a nice little add-on for your kids to do something extra.

Special Informal Devlog

Hi-ho, Wudge here! Aaaa. I missed the update last week... as we crawl closer and closer to release, it's become harder for me to write devlogs. I'm making progress every single day, and that makes me so frustrated that it isn't done yet, you know? 😭 Something something curse of perfectionism...

Anyway.

I thought I'd try something a little different with this post by chronicling a specific screen I've worked very hard on, from start to finish!

It all began on... August 2021?! Yowza, two years ago! When I posted a poll on tumblr and on itch about how I should handle flirt indicators. The votes were split 50/50 between two popular options, and I was able to surmise that yall would really, really love an option to toggle between the two.

It didn't take me long to figure out how to implement the toggle itself.

The following year (September 2022), I came up with the idea of putting in an illustrated tutorial on how my flirt indication system works - after all, poll participants had told me that they loved the idea and had never seen it before in other games. I was on a treadmill at the time, so I quickly doodled the idea on my phone. It looks like this:

Then when I got home, I did a rough pen draft to solidify the idea...

I worked on the digital version over the next 2-3 weeks, and asked my friends for help with editing the text to ensure clarity.

.... Then I took a looong break from the infographic to, uh.... write, edit, playtest the game, draw expressions for Griffin CG, draw expressions for the landlord, work on a new Clammy Lady sprite, playtest the game again, make all the characters blink, make the first glowing animation for Jade's powers, code in Griffin's CG expressions, stress about paypal making changes in my country, do concept art for upcoming npcs, write some more, playtest some more, draw a birthday picture for Dart, write devlogs every single week, make sure all my files were safely transferred to my new laptop before my old one completely died... etc.

So it was February 2023 by the time I came back around to try implementing the infographic in code :')

... It was functional, but no matter what I tried, I didn't like how it looked with everything crammed into one page.

... Then I got really sick... but after I recovered and did some more work (drawing, writing, playtesting, etc) I came back to the infographic with the intention to learn how to code pages in renpy.

Still didn't look phenomenal, but there's a whole lot more breathing room! This was in April 2023.

I took another "break" (worked on a million other things) and then... FINALLY... in late August 2023, just a few weeks ago, I had an art breakthrough!

I had garnered a better understanding of color and poses, and as a result my chibis became a LOT cuter! I was able to redraw most of them without too much hassle - whereas when I first started, it would take me all day to draw a single one.

I also drew custom heart icons (a plain heart, a golden heart, and a broken heart), figured out how to make text buttons look more fun and intuitive..

And here's where we're at now!!! I still need to draw eyes for Dart.... but I researched and absorbed a lot about screen compositions, and had a rather late realization that I could re-use backgrounds and assets I already have in the game.

You’re Somebody Else | Ghost x Fem!Reader | Prologue

Update: I split the prologue because I feel like the pacing fits better if it’s split into two parts.

Note: This is based on a request which I changed a bit since I did not play any other Call of Duty game besides Modern Warfare 2 (2022). I did a bit of research tho for the older games so I hope it’s not complete bullshit that I’m pulling out of my ass, also related to the military stuff xD

Also a warning, this series will be angsty as hell but I’m not planning to make it very long, as I learned my lesson with a certain witcher fic xD 

This fic has religious undertones at least in this part, I hope I don’t make anyone uncomfortable with this. I grew up Christian (tho I’m an atheist now) and I thought a bit about how I would react if I was suddenly in a parallel universe where I and several other people are supposed to be dead.

“Fucking hell, there’s so many of ‘em!”

Lynx fires her rifle next to you and you do the same, feeling the recoil on your shoulder. You only waste a millisecond to check if your target is actually hit and then immediately focus on the next enemy. 

Below your position the LZ is hot and the hill on the other side is bombarded with mortars. 

You know it’s hell down there and yet you wish you were between those trees instead of the elevated bush area from where you currently provide cover fire. 

He is there and in this very moment you want to be by his side. No matter the heavy gunfire. 

“You still see them?!” your partner asks from your right, and you affirm her question as you kill another hostile. 

Roach and Ghost are steadily moving forward in between the onslaught of Russian soldiers and growing relief trickles through your veins with every step they take. 

But then they run out of the tree line and before either of you can react, a mortar shell explodes right in front of them, and Roach is sent flying. 

“No, fuck, NO!” Lynx yelps and the panic in her voice is earth-shattering. 

“He’s not dead, Anna!” you shout and grab her by the shoulder, stopping her from standing up. She bites her lips but thankfully remains on the ground, just inching a bit forward, desperate to spot her lover alive. 

You pray that your words are true and thank fuck they are; seconds later Ghost drags a shooting Roach away from the trees and the red flare that the masked man popped for Thunder-Two-One. 

“Jesus Christ”, you hear the woman beside you whisper, “I’ll beat his ass when we’re back home!” 

A nervous bubbly laugh escapes you and you hope that you all can return to base safe and in one piece. 

“Move, Ghost! We’ll cover you!” you speak into your mic. 

His voice rings through your earbud “copy that, Nomad!” and you breathe out shakily. Yeah, everything will be fine. 

With your eyes you watch how Thunder-Two-One sends a merciless spray of machine gun fire into the tree line, but you can’t see beyond the smoke and instead focus your scope on the few enemy soldiers that emerge from the grey fog. You take them out one by one. 

You’re about to send another bullet into an approaching hostile when your radio crackles. 

“Gold Eagle is on the ground. Watch for snipers on thermal, over.” 

Lynx makes a noise beside you. “Isn’t it just us and Adle-“ 

Blood suddenly sprays and you blink. Your lips taste iron, your right eye is watering and with one glance to your right the sounds of the battlefield all turn into white noise. 

Instinctively you press yourself against the grass, your left cheek touches the damp ground and with wide eyes you stare at Anna’s unmoving body. Your partner is dead. Shot in the head. 

Based on the whizz of the bullet and the spray of blood that hit you it must have been a sniper who killed her. For a second you think the Russians sneaked up on you, but then you remember the words through the radio; Watch for snipers… 

Realization trickles through your veins. Someone must have betrayed you. 

Your heart sinks and within a millisecond you make a decision. 

You roll to your left, gripping your rifle tightly and a bullet passes overhead, barely missing your shoulder. But it did miss and you’re rolling down the side of the hill. 

The tumble returns your ability to hear, and the sound of the helicopters combined with your racing heartbeat is deafening. 

The small incline of your hiding place saved your life for now and although you know deep down that your luck probably won’t last, you are thankful in this very moment. 

Tears well up in your eyes but you rub them away with your sleeve. A red smear appears on the fabric, and you clench your jaw. Focus, you don’t have time for this right now!! 

You know that whoever killed Anna is probably relocating right now to get a good shot at you, but you don’t care. 

You need to know what’s happening to him, if he dies- 

“Ghost?! Lynx is KIA, someone cut us! Do you copy?!” 

You anxiously wait for an answer, but your radio stays silent. 

Breathing out shakily, you lift yourself from the ground and rush behind a tree to shield your right flank. The dust that is kicked up by the many helicopters, which gathered on the plain, is making it difficult for you to spot the man you’re looking for, but the big Boeing helicopter used to transport the General is a good reference point. 

You position your rifle and adjust your scope to find the heli. 

The clouds of dust are thick, but like a miracle you spot the General- leaning over Roach, Simon laying motionlessly beside them, his grey sweater showing a bloom of red as if he was shot-

Your scream is stuck in your throat, and you watch frozen as Shepherd retrieves the DSM from Gary and simply leaves while four Shadow company soldiers step forward. 

Tears well up again and this time you let them fall as the world begins to spin. 

“No, no, no, please-!” you whimper, sucking in air through your clenched teeth and without a second thought you rush forward. 

You make it about 60 meters before a bullet through your right shoulder throws you off balance and sends you straight to the ground. Hot flaming pain shoots through your body and the brute force of your crash and your rifle painfully pressing against your ribs take the air out of your lungs. 

Dazed you lift your head, heavy from the weight of your helmet, and for a moment your vision is blurry; you blink to regain focus. 

In the distance you see the soldiers clad in black, carrying Gary’s and Simon’s limp bodies to a spot without grass. They drop them like two sacks of potatoes and the pain in your heart is worse than the one of your bullet wound. 

A wail escapes your throat, and you try to lift your body from the ground, to crawl forward, but your limbs feel like lead, and you don’t have the strength to move. 

Your radio crackles and your ear bud lets Captain Price’s voice come through: “Ghost, come on, this is Price! We’re under attack by Shepherd’s men…” 

You can hear gunfire from his side and in one last effort you pull your rifle from underneath you. 

The fact that Taskforce 141- you were betrayed by your superior, the man who you considered a father figure at one point in your life, that he killed the man you loved- love… That fact stokes something inside of you and that barely gives you the strength to position your rifle. 

Weakly you watch how the Shadow company bastards douse your friends, your brothers, the ones you love with gasoline and Shepherd’s plan dawns on you. Bile rises in your throat and you sob through clenched teeth.

You place your finger on the trigger but in the end, you don’t get the chance to pull it. 

The general casually drops his cigar and Gary’s and Simon’s corpses go up in flames right as a bullet enters the back of your head.

Scrooge: Old Vs New

There’s a few posts I wanted to make. The new Guardians Of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Disenchanted. Slumberland. Wednesday. That one Moon Knight fan fic sitting in my drafts. But I’ve got to talk about this.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Netflix came out this year in 2022. While Critics haven’t been too kind to it (I’ll get to my theory why in a second) y’all on Tik Tok and Tumblr have been losing your minds. You’re falling in love with the music (particularly Later Never Comes). But mostly…many of you have this reaction.

The surprising hottie in question being this rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge.

And I get it. As is tradition in animated takes of Dickens immortal classic, the animators clearly took inspiration from their voice actor Mr. Luke Evans. And Mr. Evans is a very handsome man. So I’m right there with you guys simping over an old man with a sexy voice.

But! I would be remiss if I failed to educate my fellow fangirls, fanboys and all between that this movie…is technically a remake.

Directed in 1970 by Ronald Neame, Scrooge was nominated for Four Academy Awards and won a Golden Globe. Quite an achievement in a time when movie musicals were fading in popularity. And it’s composer Leslie Bricusse (who also helped bring Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to life) was an executive producer and helped write the screenplay for this new version. And since he passed away last year, the animated film is dedicated to him.

Of the original eleven songs, five were carried over to the new movie. Happiness. I Like Life (with updated lyrics). Beautiful Day, Thank you Very Much and I Will Begin Again. Yet while the original movie received generally positive reviews from critics, the new movie only holds a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. What’s the difference? I mean the animation is very nice. Sometimes downright gorgeous. Obviously the music works. I’ve heard people praising both the new songs as well as the older ones. And they actually add depth to the original story.

Well if I had to guess, the new version is very much catering to kids versus families. The Ghost of Christmas Present has cute little Minion like critters. They cut the line of Scrooge saying, “If They (the poor) would rather die then they better do it. And decrease the surplus population!” I guess because it’s too mean? Speaking of, they give Scrooge a dog named Prudence. I guess to show the kids that he’s not all bad. He has a cute doggy! He’s kinda indifferent to the dog but hey! Don’t look at the scary imagery of Scrooge watching his own ghost rise from his grave! Look at the puppy! Look at the puppy! I mean Mr. Magoo kept the mean lines in as did the Muppet’s. Plus they trusted kids with the scary stuff.

Yeah as cute as those reindeer antlers on her looked at the end, Prudence was definitely a studio note and serves no purpose. She could be cut and you wouldn’t miss anything. Plus I’m not a fan of the opening number. Too peppy and modern. I wished they had done an update of the song that opens the 1970 movie, “A Christmas Carol “

Plus I love this song from Cratchit. It’s so Christmas… I wish this one made the cut.

But I do like the new version. Later Never Comes goes way harder than “You” and Luke Evans really balances out Scrooge being an old curmudgeon and a man who knows and regrets his choices. Plus the whole thing is animated like a dream. I love Luke Evans singing “I will Begin Again.” It’s a song of hope, passion and joy. And when Albert Finney’s Scrooge sings it …well… he tried…I can’t post it here but trust me. Luke Evans is a major upgrade. They make up for it with the finale in the 1970’s version where they almost reprise every song in the movie. Plus my parents always like how they made Albert Finney up to really look like a miser than doesn’t cut his hair or even clean his nails or his house. And technically Albert Finney was a sex symbol back in the day. Where he played both the old and young versions of Scrooge. So having a sexy Scrooge is technically precedent…

So give the original movie a watch if you like this one. It can be it’s own kind of goofy at times, but it’s definitely worth a yearly viewing. As is the new version on Netflix.

On this post (which will be updated for 37 days), I will give my ranking, my ratings and my comments on the songs of Eurovision 2023.

Ukraine: TVORCHI - Heart Of Steel

Even though I much prefer "Bonfire" (the song from Vidbir 2020), it's a good song and production. It's cool to see this kind of entries in the competition, it's very modern. Ukraine can be proud to have sent this song to Liverpool.

Albania: ALBINA & FAMILJA KELMENDI - Duje

I like how the song starts, it's dramatic without overdoing it, it sounds very Albanian. Too bad the revamp removed the power of the song that we found at FiK 2022. Albina and her family will have no problem qualifying for the final, the Europeans will appreciate the family show.

Belgium: GUSTAPH - Because Of You

Well, I admit "Because Of You" grew a little in me BUT I remain convinced that there were better choices for Belgium. It still sounds corny but it's danceable and listenable and frankly there's worse this year. Belgium's qualification for the final will depend on its running order in the 2nd semi-final.

Ireland: WILD YOUTH - We Are One

The song itself is fine and Wild Youth knows how to perform, however the revamp took away the soul that was in the original version. It sounds more like a World Cup song than a Eurovision song and given the band's discography, they could have done better. I hope they don't bring those masks from the official clip back to Liverpool otherwise it's guaranteed Ireland will finish dead last in its semi-final.

Slovenia: JOKER OUT - Carpe Diem

Slovenia made the right choice by selecting Joker Out internally. "Carpe Diem" is a diamond in the rough, a superb entry that reflects the group's universe well. The live performance is better than the studio version, the band members are very charismatic. Slovenia can achieve its best result in the contest with them.

Norway: ALESSANDRA - Queen Of Kings

What a bop ! Norway made an excellent choice by choosing "Queen of Kings". It's very catchy and impactful, I like the idea of ​​adding an Italian intro at the start of her performance and I hope it stays in the Eurovision version of the title. Norway can aim for the top 10.

Spain: BLANCA PALOMA - Eaea

Modern and experimental flamenco ! I love this entry ! "Eaea" is perfect to represent Spain at Eurovision. Blanca Paloma is spellbinding with this dramatic and original song. She deserves the top 5 at least.

Czechia: VESNA - My Sister's Crown

It's a great and well-produced song, but I still don't have any winner vibes to this day. It's sure that Czechia will be noticed this year, but be careful with the staging and the performance should not be messed up. I wish the final to Czechia but of all the favorite countries of the first semi-final, it is the one that has the best chance of not qualifying to everyone's surprise in my opinion.

Estonia: ALIKA - Bridges

"Bridges" is simple but very effective, creative and original as a song. The live performance adds the necessary power for this song. Alika is an excellent performer, in Liverpool she will shine with her determination. Estonia will easily be in the final, it's the best Baltic song for me.

Okay, so, about “The Sandman”...

It’s amazing.They pulled off a really elegant adaptation, based on the fact that I cannot point to either the comics or the series and say one was better than the other. Plots were tightened up. Characters got shifted here and there. They did the wise thing, in my opinion, and removed just about every reference to the DC superheroes other than a pair of name-checks. By allowing characters to be played by actors regardless of race or gender, they ended up with a cast that did a stellar job. Where there was classic bloody gore/horror, they surrounded it with intense psychological horror so that even those of us who are the type to look away from the screen got almost the full impact. And they took full advantage of the medium to produce incredibly rich and lush visuals and bring iconic pages in the comics to life.

As I said last night, if you feared what a live-action version would do to a story you treasure, don’t be afraid. And if you’re hesitant to watch a series without having read the source material, don’t hesitate. This feels like the once-in-a-generation event where the adaptation not only lives up to the original, but can stand beside it as an equal.

Spoilery thoughts under the cut for both the series and the comics.

I am still really astonished at just how deft an adaptation the series it. Every time I went, “Wait a minute, I don’t like this change,” by the end of that episode or the next I was sold. For example, I was missing Miranda, Rose’s mother, at the beginning of Episode 7, as the buffer between Rose and Unity and also because we were shown the circumstances of their separation from Jed and not just told. But when Gault took on Miranda’s appearance and then railed against Dream because she didn’t want to be a nightmare anymore, it made perfect sense.

And Gault herself was a revelation. In the comics we have a team called Brute and Glob, a rather dumb pair of nightmares, trying to make their own little Dreaming in Jed’s mind. (And if I remember correctly, they’re a reference to one of DC’s older horror comic titles.) They are the ones who capture Hector Hall at his death and bring Lyta to live with him in their fledgling kingdom, and Hector is the “Sandman” of Jed’s dream world. It works in the comics because the text and art pay homage to an early 20th-century comic strip called “Little Nemo”. But it would have been extremely hard to do that on screen without losing the viewers, so they made Jed the star of his dreams instead and gave him all the hokey superhero trappings. And that works because Jed is a kid, with a kid’s imagination. But it gets even better when we see that Gault’s motivations weren’t about power, but about protecting Jed from his abusers because she had changed and wanted to be free of the limitations of her origins. It hit me a little later--it’s such an elegant metaphor for those who are constricted by society because of their race or sexuality, constantly fighting the huge obstacles wanting to prevent such people from any kind of metamorphosis (I mean, Dream gave her butterfly wings when he recreated her as she wanted to be). Which leads me to the one giant tonal shift that has me curious about future seasons. Dream in the comics is almost completely without humor. He is ultra-serious about his duties and responsibilities and way too proud, unwilling to change as the aeons go by. And his inability to change leads him to his end in a classic literary tragedy - even though he knows change will be necessary, he resists and even plans for his demise by setting up for the possibility with Lyta’s child as his successor. But it’s really hard to get a TV series off the ground when your leading man is not just the aloof emo archetype but stoic and stern to the point of needing to be introduced as a prisoner to garner sympathy for him. My husband and I were genuinely surprised in the first episode when Dream cried over Jessamy’s death, because it signaled a depth of caring that we don’t see until much later in the comics. But the TV Dream does show emotion, albeit mostly quietly and with a lot of amazing face acting by Tom Sturridge, does appreciate humor and irony, and at the end of this season does seem to see the need for change.

So now I’m very curious as to how they will herd Dream to his death. Will there be a back-and-forth because Dream can’t change enough? Or will the undertone about the universe having rules mean that Dream’s arc will be less about tragic choices and more about circumstances, with him having to accept the consequences of spilling family blood when he gives Orpheus the coup?

(Of course this is assuming that Netflix allows the series to be completed instead of cutting it off after 2-3 seasons. Yes, I’m still bitter about Sense8.)

TL;DR - I loved it, I think Neil Gaiman has taken full advantage of his previous TV experiences to find what works and find who will work best with him, and I will re-watch this series many times and keep watching any future seasons.

When I saw the inspiration picture for the @inuyasharedraw event, I knew I wanted to give it a try. Originally thought about a fantasy RPG AU version, but then my hand slipped and we have high school uniform Kagome!

I dunno I just liked the idea of during the three years Kagome was blocked from everyone else, she seriously contemplated using her abilities to blast a hole through the well. She did it once before, why not? Granted she was blasting away tree roots and smashed the other side all up back then with nerfed levels, so I can't even imagine what she'd do when she's uncapped.

Devlog #82

Hoo boy hi-ho Wudge here. I had a Week last week, let me tell ya.

^If you wanna know how I’ve been, that sums it up.

Most notable update - I now have a new laptop. It’s exactly what I needed, because my poor 4-year-old lenovo yoga has been dying a slow hardware death (long black strips of dead pixels spreading across the screen, increasingly broken buttons, bits breaking off whenever I move it...) 

Anyway, I’ve been able to use my tablet again! Case in point, a babby Mia I started for that infographic:

I’ve definitely learned a lot and have improved with my art, but I’d like to note that the steadier lines are largely due to using better equipment and programs - I've always had a fairly steady contour with real life traditional art, after all.

I’ll still reference the 2019 to see if there’s some sort of charm I still need to incorporate into her new version, but so far so good, I think.

And I wrote AAAAA LOTTTT last Friday. 8AM to 9PM with a nap in the middle. I took a well-deserved break over the weekend and I’ll be up and at em this week, too. And uh, I started transferring a lot of files to the new laptop, which is overwhelming... but necessary!

Phew, I think just about I covered everything.

Hetalia: America/Alfred Headcanons (Updated: Sep 17th 2022)

Okay okay, so since I think most people has this headcanon/fanon version of America, I thought I'd give mine since I lowkey disagree a lot with how he's portrayed in both funimation's dub and how fanfics generally perceive him <3 I am big brain

Okay so first of all, I don't think Alfred is a downright idiot, but he is naive and young. He means well and is always curious about other Countries and their cultures. That does sometimes lead him to asking some Countries millions of continuous obvious questions that he may have already asked before, which obviously gets very annoying after a while. He may be uneducated, but he's trying his best, leave him be, he's baby :')

Alfred loves his people and his country. He is patriotic, but not a full on nationalist. "Anti-governmentism" and general distrust towards both political parties has never been higher in American history than it currently is today. Alfred has never in any aspect represented the government, only the people. That doesn't mean he's immune to the manipulation and propaganda tho, much like American citizens. Alfred knows that people no longer feel free in the Country he calls home. It tears him apart, but he's definitely not some soft pathetic depressed kid that many fanfics portray him as. He'll be damned if any of those Europeans insult or belittle his people. He's strong and optimistic. But he also naively just hopes things will work out and get better. His people come before any billionaire politician.

Alfred might eat a lot of junk and fast food, but he doesn't believe it's a bad thing. When he does have chub on him, he doesn't see it as a bad thing at all. He owns it. He's not insecure about his eating habits. He just loves eating food. Rather it's cheap fauthentic imitation of foreign food, or it's a classic big Mac, he'll eat it with joy. He has no sense of taste afterall, it's all just food to him at the end of the day! He doesn't apologize for his eating habits or his body.

Alfred does have his insecurities, though. He doesn't show it because of his pride and his hero complex. Heroes are strong, brave, and fighting warriors that protect their nation. He's supposed to be the world superpower for a reason, he doesn't need anyone else pitying him! It already took so long to convince the other Countries that he really was worth something, despite being so young. He wasn't going to have them babying him more than they already do just because he gets a little sad sometimes.

Adding to that, he takes being comforted as pitying him or even personally insulting. He knows its a problem of his, but he'd be damned if he let anyone comfort him, a hero who needs to put others before himself. Alfred will comfort and protect others, but he'd feel bad and selfish if he'd let anyone do the same for him.

Some extra lil' hc's:

- Alfred is fluent in a handful of languages, and understands a plethora when he hears them. He chooses to keep it a secret. For war tactics? Personal reasons? Only he knows.

- Alfred cannot learn how to use chopsticks to save his life. He's asked Kiku to teach him, asked some of his citizens to teach him, but he never has been able to do it.

- Alfred longs for a family. He can handle not being the center of attention for a few hours, but he literally cannot be alone for more than 10 minutes.

- Extremely extroverted, obviously. He has been compared to a golden retriever puppy on a multitude of occasions.

- Alfred has ADHD and takes medication for it. Well... when he remembers to take it.

- Kicks his feet like an ecstatic kid when he's excited or enthusiastic about something he's talking or hyperfixiating about.

- Best friends are definitely Matthew and Kiku :]

- His States and territories all have personifications of their own, and he loves them all like a father. He likes being the "cool dad that let's you have ice cream for breakfast."

- Actually has an amazing skin and hair routine. He's a hero, he needs to look good while he's saving the world!

- Captain America is the best one, obviously.

- Very Pansexual. Goes to pride parades around the Country every year.

Twitter, one of the few mega giant apps I considered in the whole social media platform spectrum, due to its popularity and longevity. It was founded by Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass in 2004. At the time, they didn’t really have a clear direction as to how they wanted the platform to be, up until engineer Jack Dorsey proposed a short message service (SMS) where one could share and send bloglike updates with friends. Dorsey would send his first post on March 2006, and followed up on July 2006 with a completed version of the platform. Glass proposed the name Twttr, due to being inspired from the name Flickr, however, six months after the launch, the name was eventually changed to Twitter.

Some may say that it’s similar to Facebook in terms of being able to share posts, socialize and have the opportunity to promote your business/brand. However, Twitter is slightly different due to having its own unique features and structure.

The image above shows the Home page and gives you the point of view if you’re using the platform on a desktop. At first glance, it may seem slightly busy, upon seeing many clickable links to go to, however, don’t be afraid, it’s easy to navigate through. I’ll give you a quick tutorial/run through of the various functions to better understand the app:

Home: As shown in the image above, this is where you will see all of the tweets that are both shared by you and the people you follow.

Explore: Here, a search bar provided for you to search for anyone by their twitter handles, also, there are many trending topics to discover.

Notifications: Here it shows if someone likes your tweet, notifies of people following you, mentions someone tagging you to a post,/comment, notifications from twitter relating to your profile etc.

Messages: Here is where messages are stored between you and others.

Twitter Blue: This allows you to become a blue subscriber, where you can create longer tweets up to 10,000 characters. (Disclaimer it will cost you $84.00 for a yearly subscription).

Profile: This is where you can see everything on your feed that you have liked, retweeted and make edits to your profile.

THE BUSINESS SIDE OF TWITTER

One thing I have noticed from using twitter is businesses/brands have huge followings to their profiles, and this is caused by the engagement with the audience/customers. Let’s look at Starbucks as an example. Starbucks as we know is one of the biggest coffee franchises in the world and they provide excellent customer service. Their Twitter page tends to highlight:

Charities that they are apart of such as ACRSNEWS nonprofit organization and the Born This Way Foundation, just to name a few.

They retweet posts from users who share their experience with the brand.

They stay with the trending scene by creating tweets relevant to their old and new menu selection.

Pictures, videos and GIFs of various beverages, delicious treats or even customers enjoying their meals are shared  on their home page.

Holiday specials are advertised like their Christmas #RedCupDay, which is a limited edition reusable red cup with the purchase of any holiday handcrafted beverage.

So, Twitter plays a great role on allowing businesses/brands to engage with their target audience and even gravitate new audiences to them. I, however, am curious to know what is the future outcome of Twitter, seeing that Jack Dorsey stepped down as CEO and left the company back in May 2022, and now Mr. Elon Musk had purchased the company. Changes had already been made regarding the subscription that I mentioned earlier about Twitter Blue and he has indicated of implementing future changes. Only left to be seen.
