And how four sometimes accidentally thinks the same way or similarly to a monster or dark mage

Wind considers himself a master criminal but the second four opens his mouth

He has to tune him out for his own sake

And remaining innocents (he literally can’t even comprehend most things four implies because he still is a kid)

Four has done things

You don’t know how to torture people with such success if you haven’t done it yourself

Like. This guy's establishing character moment is, in order:

he's introduced as having won an entire tournament to get to touch a magic chest and get a cool sword, which was the prize for said tournament

turns around and does a goddamn evil soliloquy TEN FEET AWAY FROM THE GUARDS who were about to hand him his macguffin on a platter

(like this man fucks up his own horribly planned daylight heist because he cannot keep a lid on the dramatics for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES, IN PUBLIC)

(THE BAR WAS ON THE FLOOR VAATI, FUCKING GANONDORF PLAYS THE PIPE ORGAN FOR HIS OWN BOSS INTRO AND HE STILL KNOWS BETTER THAN THIS SHIT)

proceeds to fight the guards (it is, admittedly, a curbstomp for him, but it still clearly wasn't his plan, because otherwise why bother with the tournament)

opens chest, unleashing a whole bunch of monsters

exposits out loud about Zelda's powers like a nerd while she is actively charging up her magic powers to kick his ass

RECOGNIZES and IDENTIFIES said magic as the special power carried by the female royal line

completely fails to recognize it as the light force he is currently trying to get his hands on (he spends like 99% of the game not figuring this out.)

(i have no idea if link could have deflected this spell if he had managed to get the right angle with his shield but i like to think somewhere there is a very short and very funny alternate timeline where it happens)

(more importantly: no part of vaati's original presumed plan would have involved doing this. he 100% created this situation for himself by being an dramatic idiot and picking a fight for no good reason.)

He then proceeds to spend the rest of the game trying to figure out where the light force is and ends up having to wait for Ezlo and Link to figure it out first because he was, as far as I can tell, GENUINELY stuck on this part. He fucking kidnaps and impersonates the King, not for access to Zelda, but to… send guards to go look for the Light Force, presumably because he was either running out of ideas or genuinely thought that would work.

None of the guards even had any idea what he was talking about. He's not even good at impersonating the King. He's already sent like twenty people to the dungeon by the time you get there and it hasn't even been a week. Somehow the game spins this as a cunning plan and clever manipulation or something.

(Meanwhile the guards are just. Poking around in random bushes and shit hoping to find the light force. One of them asks you what you think it might look like.)

Zelda is literally right next to the throne and Vaati does not figure it out until you find an actual honest-to-goodness LORE TABLET spelling out that the Light Force is Stored in the Zelda, at which point he's like "ahahaha you've done my work for me this was definitely my plan all along" and takes over the castle and throws a bunch of monsters at you to stall for time while he figures out how to extract the force from her. Somehow he still doesn't think to actually lock the fucking door.

(AKA: Urban Fantasy Cozy Mystery Creature Cafe AU)

Happy holidays! This fic is my entry to the Four Swords 2023 Gift Exchange, for known Remlit Vio enjoyer @kaenith. The concept has been living rent-free in my head for months, and this is what I have to show for it. There are totally no dragons in this story, though. Must have just slipped my mind.

The remlit floats mid-air behind the bar, his large ears keeping him aloft. He scowls harder than Shadow has ever seen before, and growls menacingly. “Mister Cranky, no!” Shadow exclaims, eyes wide with horror. “Oh, for the love of—my name is Vio!”

Reader is an alchemist who works for either Vaati or Ghirahim (Vaati preferably but it's up to you) and summons/creates a monster they were told SPECIFICALLY not to do and just goes "Hey, remember that thing you told me not to do?"

"Should I be mad ?" He mumbled while looking up at you, a mix between annoyance, amusement and exhaustion. He knew. He instantly knew. The knock on the door ? The dumb smile ? The small little bounce ? Yep. He knew. He sighed, he didn't even try to be angry, he just knew that would happen.

You're little smile dropped and you stared at him dead in the eyes. "I did it" you admitted in a whisper. "Did what…?"

"The thing you told me not to do"

"I called it Terrence !!"

The curtains were torn everywhere, there were bite marks on the tables, even a bit of...uhm...fur ? On the ceiling? Vaati frowned in confusion as he looked up at the ceiling. How did it get here? A big bulging eye, weird black/dark blue fur, a sticking tongue. So cute waw.

''You should've called him Terror not Terrence." He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. AGAIN. He was annoyed, pissed, mad anything you want. Vaati entered the room and rolled up his sleeves, he started whistling to the...creature...''Psst, psst Terrence come here...!'' Terrence stared at him, huffing like a puppy, his one big eye was blinking slowly and staring at him. Terrence jumped from the ceiling and started running all over the room, Vaati running behind him to catch him.

You, on the other hand, were leaning against the doorframe with your arms crossed, trying to hold back your laugh. He'd been trying to catch it for about twenty minutes. "Need help ?" You asked teasingly "Shut the f*ck up (Name)" he replied from across the room. You chuckled, amused to see him run and jump everywhere trying to reach the creature.

You shook your head and finally decided to help him. Too late, Vaati already caught Terrence. ...wait. OH SHIT-

"VAATI DON'T TOUCH THE TAIL—" you shouted.

"You could've tell me earlier" he grumbled while you were wrapping the bandage around his head. It was the first time you saw him without his cap. You giggled nervously and tried to avoid his glare. "I'm sorry, I forgot... I only remembered when I saw you trying to catch him by his tail." He looked up at you, you were focused and a bit embarrassed when wrapping the bandages. He was staring at you intensely. When you noticed his intense gaze on you, you release the bandages and stare back, a small blush creeping on your face.

"W-what ?" You mumbled shyly. He kept staring, he cupped your chin and leaned closer. Your eyes widened and you let him, you were expecting him to kiss you so you closed your eyes and waited. He kept leaning closer until Terrence barked. He stopped and you opened your eyes.

Vaati smirked and got up, grabbing his cap at the same time. He walked away but before leaving he said playfully y.

"You're fired !!"—

"WHAT ?"

Minish Cap is one of the more underrated LoZ games. The art style is charming and adorable, the story is nice, and I just love the game's overall vibe. I liked getting to see some of Link's family like in Wind Waker, especially! Another game with Link and Zelda being childhood friends is cute, too. :)

Personally, I love Vaati as an antagonist. It's a break from having Ganon as the villain, and also gives us the chance to actually see the motivations of one firsthand. His other forms in the final boss fight are awesome, too!

For Link's design, I made the hat Ezlo gave him have a ball at the end to resemble moreso what his hat looked like when Ezlo was said hat. I made his tunic and sleeves based on that of the Picori, and made the buckle on his belt have a shape more akin to Ezlo in his cursed form. As for Zelda, I gave her a dress inspired by the flowers the Minish carry in official art! The little banner on her dress is a combination of her usual design and Four Swords Zelda's design.

You can even keep studying if you want to! The blond had suggested in Hylian Hand Sign. I’ll just… sit on your lap and help you decompress. He was quite coy in his request, and the purple-haired mage caught on.

The slow roll of Link’s hips quashes every attempt Vaati makes at resuming his studies. Although he promised to stay still, he couldn’t help but revel in his boyfriend’s flustered expressions.

Someone asked on my Hyrule Warriors x Linked Universe fic where the Links were in their adventure(s) when they joined the War of Eras, so here you guys go!!

Anyways, here we go!

Sky- He’s around the middle of his adventure when he was transported. He’s trying to save Zelda while avoiding Ghirahim like he was a disease. But seeing that Ghirahim’s here helps ease his anxiety about Zelda.

Four- Very end of his adventure. Vaati and Shadow are long dead.

Time/Mask- He’s a kid in Hyrule Warriors, so around the middle of OoT/MM.

Wind/Tune- People usually portray Wind as being older in Hyrule Warriors, so I guess he’s at the very end of his adventure!

Legend- Also the very end of his adventures. He knows that Hyrule is his predecessor and will recognize Ravio (much to his displeasure).

Hyrule- the very start of his adventure, just when things were starting to get bad. This makes him extremely paranoid and anxious.

Twilight- The very end of his adventure. He remembers Midna sacrificing herself, and then he woke up here.

Wild- the very beginning of BOTW. Just as he left the Great Plateau. So he’s a big mess right now.

Warriors- the middle of his campaign. So he and Cia are still very much enemies and want nothing more than to destroy each other.

Spirit- beginning of his adventure with Phantom :)

Shadow likes dragons

Cia and Vaati can speak about sorcery

And Cia and shadow can speak about how little they respect boundaries

Dark and shadow are both the “evil” side of a hero

Like it is a match made in hell

The fanfic potential and just how weirdly okay four is with this situation

Would make warriors look like a saint

Tune is cringing at this devastating development

Queen Zelda is both weirdly fine and very unsettled by four and his harem
