There's a process I find incredibly underrated in mainstream works: when a duel between two characters is supposed to be epic, but instead of epic, energising music in the background, there's sad, uniform music.

In Return of the Jedi, Luke, who ideally came as a pacifist, fights his father, not out of hatred or anger, but out of fear, after Vader reveals to him that he knows about his sister. Luke is not afraid for himself, but for Leia. He knows there's still good in Vader, but if killing him is the only way to protect his sister, then so be it.

In Avatar the Last Airbender, Zuko confronts his sister because he knows that she has gone completely mad and that the only way to stop her is to beat her at her own game. However, Zuko is stronger than he has ever been because he no longer draws his power from anger. And at the end of the fight, Azula has a mental breakdown because she doesn't understand how he could have defeated her, while she has achieved what she always wanted (or at least what she thought she always wanted).

In both cases, it's two members of the same family that life has pitted against each other. And there's nothing epic about that.

Megamind (written as MM): 100% Literal Angel for obvious reasons, 50% Turbovirgin because he did get with Roxanne but it's like his first relationship of any kind outside of Minion and Metroman, and his first romantic relationship period.

Endeavor (written as End): 80% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 100% Turbovirgin because--listen. I know he has four kids. But that man has never had sex in his LIFE it was all artificial insemination Hawks or All Might makes one flirty comment and he combusts on the spot

Shigaraki (written as Shi): 0% Literal Angel/War Criminal because he's in a weird superposition of being both 100% Literal Angel and 100% War Criminal so they cancel out perfectly, 45% Turbovirgin because he gives me ace vibes, so he's still a virgin but only because he's not interested in sex.

Overhaul (written as CK): 100% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 100% Megaslut because look me in the eyes and tell me the Eight Bullets aren't a harem. If he wasn't germaphobic (and the yakuza wasn't homophobic) he'd have a sexual body count as high as his murder body count. Plus extra points for aroallo swag.

Nomu (not on the chart): THERE ARE MULTIPLE NOMU AND I DON'T REMEMBER THEM ALL HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CATEGORIZE THEM

Toga (written as Toga): 90% Literal Angel because everything she ever did was justified by her being a teenage girl with a Quirk that made her literally thirsty for blood, 5% Megaslut cuz she's flirty and also a teenager but I don't think she's ever gone further than a makeout

All For One (written as AFO): 100% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 10% Turbovirgin because like Shiggy w/ the morality axis he gives me both Turbovirgin AND Megaslut vibes but they mostly cancel out

Lady Nagant (written as LN): 20% Literal Angel because she was justified but also she knows what she did and would do it again, 15% Megaslut because I feel like a) she's aspec and b) she's had sex but it's not exactly a priority.

Dabi (written as Dabi): 80% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 75% Megaslut because he gives me the vibes of someone who sells $5 blowjobs in the club bathroom but can't full on fuck because it hurts too much/his body gives out/his one-night-stands are less-than-understanding.

Kurogiri (written as KG): 10% Literal Angel because dealing with teenage Shigaraki sounds like hell and somehow Kurogiri got through it, 0% Turbovirgin/Megaslut because he knows what sex is (in detail) but has little interest in it. At least in his current form.

Spinner (written as Spi): 20% Literal Angel because he just wants to Do Good, 55% Turbovirgin because he's in the same boat as Shiggy but more awkward about it

Palpatine (written as Palp): 100% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 100% Turbovirgin because he just Does Not Seem Fuckable to me. IDK maybe someone out there wants to fuck that old man but he'd probably electrocute them before they got close. "Palpatine" and "sex" just do not belong in the same sentence.

Vader (written as Vader): 70% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 20% Turbovirgin because he's canonically fucked at least once, but it was only after he got married, and I STRONGLY doubt he ever even THOUGHT about anyone else that way. If either EU contradicts this don't tell me because I don't want to know.

The Grand Inquisitor (not on the chart): I really don't know who that is, aside from the vague notion that it's a Rebels character, and the one I'm thinking of may not be the right one so I'm playing it safe.

Dooku (written as Dooku): 80% War Criminal for obvious reasons (and not 100% because I like Chisaki too much), 100% Megaslut because now THERE'S a Fuckable Old Man

Sith!Obi-Wan Kenobi (written as S!OBK): 40% War Criminal because I can't see him being as bad as, say, Dooku, but he's a Sith and therefore still pretty bad, 100% Megaslut because obvious reasons

Jango Fett (written as JF): 15% War Criminal cuz he didn't really do all that much, 80% Turbovirgin because the only kids of his we know of are actual clones, which I have decided means that he is Simply Uninterested in fucking.

Zhao (written as Zhao): 75% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 60% Turbovirgin because it's funny

Ozai (written as Ozai): 100% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 40% Turbovirgin because--listen, I know some people think he'd be a Megaslut like Iroh, but I will hold onto my demi!Ozai headcanon until the day I die. He is Simply Uninterested in fucking right up until he gets to know Ursa properly and then feels sexual/romantic attraction and is like "HEY WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS"

LoK villains (not on the chart): sorry, it's been a while since I've seen any LoK and it didn't stick in my brain like AtLA's Fire Nation did. Didn't trust myself to make good judgements.

Sozin (written as Sozin): 100% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 90% Turbovirgin because you KNOW he spent most of his life pining after Roku

Long Feng (written as LF): 80% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 10% Megaslut because he kinda gives me slut vibes but not very strong ones.

Pakku (written as Pakku): 10% War Criminal because he's an asshole but more of a garden-variety asshole than someone like Ozai or Endeavor, 100% Turbovirgin because *gestures to the sexism*. Maybe if he and Kanna reconcile properly he'll become less of a Turbovirgin but at the beginning let's just say he is not beating the incel allegations

Hama (written as Hama): 50% War Criminal for obvious reasons, 30% Megaslut because she's definitely taken a few men her age to bed before fucking them up (rather than just fucking them lmao). Maybe this is me falling for the 'witch'/evil woman = sexually promiscuous stereotype but she's definitely not on the Turbovirgin side.

BONUS CHARACTERS (that I forgot to put onto the chart, whoops):

Ursa: 70% War Criminal because Fire Nation Princess during the war and you can't be happily married to Ozai for any period of time without being at least 50% War Criminal even if it ends unhappily, he's a real bastard4bastard type, they both are actually, and a solid 40% Megaslut. i feel like she has a Normal amount of sexuality and is very comfortable with it. at the very least she knows more about and likes sex more than her husband does lolololol

Chronostasis: 20% War Criminal because he does terrible shit but all on Chisaki's orders, he strikes me as very 'no thoughts head empty' wrt to morality. 70% Megaslut, trying very hard to get into Chisaki's pants (good luck with that with how often he cleans them)

Todoroki Fuyumi: Comes across as Turbovirgin and Literal Angel but every day she lives under Endeavor's thumb is another day she inches closer to 100% War Criminal. Likewise, I think she has this secret bad habit of sleeping with random strangers (as in I literally wrote a oneshot about it) that no one knows about. Her smile is fake her dreams are full of violence the end of her rope is near she Cannot Take Much More Of This Shit

In their tech-savvy minds, shrink rays, piranha guns, dehydration guns, atomisation, robot and clone armies and breaking every bone in the person's body all send the correct message.

Jack Frost (Rise of the Guardians) would freeze the doors and ice the floors and windows, effectively creating a giant icebox as fires cannot stay burning in his presence.

Dark Helmet, Kylo Ren, Armitage Hux and Darth Vader would vaporise the person's house (and planet to boot) from space. If the person was off-world at the time, those who are Force or Schwartz users will proceed to Force-choke or laser the person even after they have lost everything.

Scar (The Lion King) would arrange an accident that is tragically and unavoidably fatal while Shenzi, Banzai and Ed would maul the person in full view of a crowd.

Gaz Membrane is constantly rude to anyone who dares to be her obsession, but if anyone else tries the same rudeness, they will pay. Zim and the two main Tallest also have shades of this.

Albert Wesker (Resident Evil 5 era): Look, another test subject for Uroboros has presented itself.

Urdnot Wrex, Grunt (Mass Effect 2) and Wolverine are not the burn-your-house-down types. It would be too easy for the person to learn nothing from the experience, such as how much they should be afraid of running their mouth to the wrong stranger in the future. These three will knock the person out before they even finish the sentence.

Yzma has exactly the right potion for this human flea, except that she adds an extra four or so steps to the plan.

Lord Hater invades the scoundrel's home planet with the support of Commander Peepers and his army of Watchdogs, or he may blast the world to smithereens with a laser.

Zutara's Song is Definetely The Great War by Taylor Swift

I've seen a lot of Zutara songs and playlists out there and I wanted to share my opinion on my personal favorite

I want to start out by saying that this analysis is going to completely ignore Taylor Swift's intentions when she wrote the song and any analysis of the song in concurrence with her life. I'm also going off my personal feelings that the first verse and chorus are Zuko talking to Katara, the second verse, chorus, and bridge are Katara talking to Zuko, and the remaining parts of the song are them reflecting after the war.

My knuckles were bruised like violets,

Sucker punching walls, cursed you as I sleep talked,

For me, this was pretty typical season 1 Zuko. Angry at the world, fighting everything in sight, ect, ect. It's only after the first two lines that the song gets a little bit more specific.

Spineless in my tomb of silence,

Tore your banners down, took the battle underground,

That third line is really reminiscent of Ba Sing Se. He took himself out of the story, until, of course, he had to make a choice in "Crossroads of Destiny"

And we know what he chooses

It's almost phrased in the form of an apology, which connects it even further to their story. "Tore your banners down" could also mean the fall of Ba Sing Se in general. Aang is Katara's banner, the avatar who she put so much hope in, but the Earth Kingdom banner is also who she was fighting behind. Azula killed Aang, so I would personally say it's the latter, but I saw two meanings behind it so it's totally up for interpretation.

And maybe it was egos swinging,

The "egos swinging" bit resonated with me a lot, because at this point in the story Zuko isn't done with his character arc. He still seeks his father's validation over his own moral code, and although it seems to me like he's gotten over a lot of his entitlement, I think he still feels entitled to his throne. That's one of my favorite things about his arc, actually, that he comes from a place of privilege but eventually, unlike Azula, realizes that the right to rule isn't given by birth but by true care for the people you represent. (some politicians should take notes)

To me, the "her" in this case is Azula, convincing Zuko their father will be proud of him if he returns to the Fire Nation, although it could also mean Mai. Again, open for interpretation.

Flashes of the battle come back to me in a blur,

This could mean a lot for different people. I've seen a theory about Zuko possibly disassociating (not unlike similar theories about Darth Vader), which I think is interesting. It could also maybe represent the guilt he still feels, which is my personal opinion.

Moving on, the chorus is fairly generic once again,

All that bloodshed, crimson clover,

Uh-uh, sweet dream was over,

My hand was the one you reached for,

All throughout the great war,

The hand part stuck out to me because of the part in the final agni Kai when they reach for each other:

Then it goes back to the any enemies-to-lovers generic dynamic again...

I vowed not to cry anymore,

If we survived the Great War.

And then we switch to Katara's POV:

You drew up some good faith treaties,

I drew curtains closed, drank my poison all alone,

You could argue that this is several moments throughout the series, maybe at the end of the war when she gets together with Aang, but I connected it most with her time spent on the ship after book 2. While Zuko was trying to fix his relationship with the Fire Nation and return to his family, Katara was isolating herself, worried about the war, about the avatar, avoiding her father and Sokka out of shame and feelings of abandonment. It was an extremely dark time for her, and although Zuko was trying to feel hopeful about his return, he doesn't even smile when he reunites with Mai. He knows he made the wrong decision.

You said I have to trust more freely,

This is after Zuko's redemption arc, during "The Southern Raiders" (which is probably my favorite ATLA episode, btw). Zuko encourages Katara to trust him, feeling that he is changed and is now deserving of it.

But she refuses to forgive or trust him

I would argue this is for good reason. She is clearly angry at more than just him, the entire Fire Nation, in fact, for murdering her mother and starting the war, but it is also very personal. When he betrayed her in Ba Sing Se after she revealed such a devastating detail of her life and they shared a connection, her abandonment issues probably came into play. It's similar to the trauma she had with her father after he left to join the war. She is scared that the people she cares about will leave her, just like her parents did, whether they had a choice or not, and just like Aang did when Azula shot him with lightning, again, without meaning to. Zuko left her intentionally to join the Fire Nation, even after she offered to heal his scar, a very important moment in their arcs. She is forgiving, optimistic, helpful, and kind to someone who hunted her and her friends for nearly a year, and he throws the offer of her most valuable asset back in her face and is instrumental in Aang's near death experience.

But diesel is desire, you were playing with fire,

He helps her. He uncovers her trauma, aids her in working through it, is supportive even when it was probably more than he bargained for.

And maybe it's the past that's talking,

Screaming from the crypt,

Telling me to punish you for things you never did,

Her mother did die at the hands of the Fire Nation, under Zuko's family's orders, whether they came directly from Ozai or not. But he wasn't the one who killed her or ordered her death, and he IS the one who is trying to defeat his father and end the war in favor of balance and peace. She realizes that...

So I just defied it,

...And finds it in her heart to forgive him.

After that, we start on the chorus again.

All that bloodshed, crimson clover,

Uh-uh, the bombs were closer,

I think that last line also refers to a different scene, much earlier in "the Southern Raiders", when Azula attacks the temple...

My hand was the one you reached for,

All throughout the Great War

...And Zuko saves Katara.

I vowed not to fight anymore,

If we survived the Great War,

I think this refers to the agni Kai specifically, as does most of the bridge. The fire everywhere, the fear, the fact that it's the last battle of the war. It just fits.

It turned into something bigger,

Somewhere in the haze got the sense I'd been betrayed,

Your finger on my hairpin trigger,

Everything is depending on this battle. If they can't defeat Azula, what will happen to the Fire Nation? Will the people now just be under a new, arguably stronger and more powerful tyrant?

Soldier down, on that icy ground,

Looked up at me with honor and truth,

Broken and blue, so I called off the troops,

But they never learn what would have happened, because their combined efforts defeat Azula.

That was the night I nearly lost you,

I really thought I'd lost you

But not before Zuko (or rather, Azula) gives Katara the fright of her life.

(the love and concern on her face is so heartbreakingly beautiful it makes me want to sob)

And now everything is fine! The bridge is over and the next verse is full of hope.

We can plant a memory garden,

Say a solemn prayer, place a poppy in my hair,

For the poppy part, I'd like to address a particular fan theory. In the final scene, Katara has a pink flower in her hair.

According to another source I found, this flower is a pink peony, which symbolizes prosperity and a happy marriage.

I know that this is a peony, not a poppy, but close enough? Also, if it were a poppy, it would symbolize compassion and platonic love.

Either way, I think of this as a kind of goodbye from Zuko to Katara. No matter what the situation was at the end of the series, whether Zuko was in love with Katara, Katara was in love with Zuko, or they were in love with each other, "platonic love" and "happy marriage" were a goodbye. It's either wishing her the best with Aang, or saying they can only be friends because of Aang or because of duty, but that he loves her anyway. (oh look, I made myself cry) At least, I think that in canon context. But within the song, it's a peony and they're now engaged lol

Anyway, the verse continues.

There's no morning glory, it was war, it wasn't fair,

And then the chorus starts again, but it's tone is far more hopeful than before. The worst is behind them. The war is over.

Summary:

Cora and TJ have secrets. This is one of them.

Tall and tan, and young, and lovely,

The girl from Ipanema goes walking,

"God, Caruso, change your alarm already, it's driving me insane," Cora groaned, burrowing deeper into the mattress.

TJ chuckled, and leant over to silence his phone before settling back into the sheets, gently peeling them back until his wife's face was looking back at him.

"Think that's annoying?" He smiled, to which she tilted her head in amused confusion. "On the morning of my 18th birthday, Dad changed my alarm--he switched the English segment around with the actual start of the song, which is in Portuguese. I thought I was losing my mind."

"Jesus, that does sound like Tony." Cora replied, her voice straining as she stretched, then returning to normal as her head came to rest on her husband's lap, where he began to softly caress her hair, the tips of his teeth showing in a brisk grin as she reached back to cup his cheek with her free hand, the other pinching, grasping at the hem of her singlet.

"Do you think we should tell him, though? About..." TJ frowned a little, trailing off.

Cora's hand on his face slackened, and her other hand went up to the now-noticeable slope of her stomach, where it stayed as she breathed, her expression one of deep thought, and TJ's mind went into overdrive, the cogs of his brain tick-tick-ticking as he spilled out. "I-I mean, we don't have to, it's your choice, I--" but eventually stopping as he caught her withering look.

"Assuming we're 17 or so weeks along, it won't be too far ahead before everyone in the force cleverly deduces that this little goblin here isn't just a case of going ham on the takeout." She sat up to nearer his level, her focus so clear like a mirror on her face he could've smashed it with a hammer.

Although, he thinks bemusedly as they lean into each other like magnets, as the younger guys in the squad would put it, I "definitely smashed" something else entirely to get to where I am now.

Nevertheless, TJ nods, gesturing for her to go on as she shifts her head against his collarbone.

"My point is that there's not much point trying to hide anything soon. I'm thinking we could just tell people straight off, with none of that Hollywood-type 'we're pregnant!' shit."

"That sounds good, I think." He trembled slightly, his words cutting out with a nervous bob of his Adam's apple.

"Shit-I didn't mean to stress you out, TJ, I'm sorry," She gasped, grabbing his hands firmly. "I want you to tell me if something's bugging you, 'kay?" She looked into his eyes, her pupils almost entirely swallowing her irises because of the lack of light that was in the bedroom.

"I'm just terrified that I'll slip up and everything will be ruined because of me. You know me, I make horrible decisions 80 or 90 percent of the time, and screwing up is even less of an option because now there's gonna be our child in the picture," He stressed, 

She cut him off again with the type of hug that silences. 

"Okay, okay. Think of this as that one Star Wars movie where Darth Vader's wife is pregnant and he's like 'you're gonna die in childbirth, nooo', and she doesn't actually, she's killed by him because of his anger and evil, the very evil that sprouted from the fear he had of not being able to save her." Cora articulated with a squeeze of her hands in his, and he looked back at her with a mildly concerned expression.

"...I've only watched the original trilogy, Cora." He exhaled.

"Well now you've watched the prequels. Anyway, I wanted to show you something I bought," she told him, a certain something sparkling in her eyes as she led him down the stairs and to the small table, where a small box was lying.

"I have a feeling I'm going to be pleasantly surprised," TJ remarked with a small smile on his lips.

"Open it, open it," Cora giggled, her face aglow like she knew something he didn't. (Which, to be fair, was exactly what it was.)

"I hope it's not a razor, Burl got me that as a little joke one ti..." He faltered, his words, all that he was going to say, gone in a flash. 

It was a mug. A mug that said "#1 Dad". He felt himself tear up a little, as his brain apparently hadn't woken up to the fact that yes, they were bringing a child into the world.

Out of love.

Him and Cora.

"Thank you," TJ choked out, at a loss for words. 

He opted for the non-verbal approach instead, pulling her into his embrace tearfully and pressing his lips against hers, and he was crying and she was crying and all he could muster was a small sob while she patted him on the back softly, her voice whispering into his ear.

"You're gonna be the best dad,"
