TLDR version is: VBS -> Niigo -> L/N -> MMJ -> WXS

to nobody's surprise, VBS is my favourite, their music is everything i like, they have never missed in my eyes. With Giga being my fav producer i dont think its suprising at all theyre the unit i like best, I also really like most of the producers they have comms/ covers for before they came to the game so it really does feel like they were made for me. Also they're my little guys... I saw Akito before i started playing the game and i knew id end up having a horrid brainworm and here i am. But the other three i love so much as well its insane theyre all so cool and i love how they interact w eachother and everything and uaughghghghghghhghg... them.

Niigo is next since i think the characters are so insanely interesting as well as really liking their comms/ covers. Ena is my fav since im Shinonome pilled but the other three esp Mizuki hold places in my heart, esp with Mizuki being so well written as a trans character its crazy. I've read a good chuck but not all of their stories and I do really enjoy it, I gotta get back to doing that since I'm not fully caught up besides Mizu/Ena5 cuz I had to read that. But yea theyre also my little guys I love them sm

Leo/Need are awesome and underrated and I'm tired of people thinking theyre boring cuz theyre NOT, I think as they've progressed their comms/covers have gotten INSANE overtime, loads of their recent stuff is so crazy to me its all so so so sso so good. I'm rly into rock and guitar so I do rly like a lot of their stuff >:) Also Shiho is my fav I love you Shiho (the other are also v cool also tho), I need to catch up on Leoni cuz I do rly like reading it and the recent stuff seems very fuckin cool

More More Jump are also so cool, Jumpin' over is one of my fav comms in the fucking game that shit goes CRAZY and tbh i think they do hit with comms more often than Leo/Need but I've only rly read the mmj main story and i think a few others but i dont fully remember what the fuck i read since its been a while lmao. They all have great voices and I rly like them all, Airi and Minori more-so but I have no beef with the other two. So many bangers, fun designs, fun dances INSANE 2dmvs recently as well. Goats

Last is WXS, I like a good few of their covers and comms but its not close as many as any other unit in the game i don't think. I also read the main story and decided it does not interest me. I do like Nene a lot and I think Emu is fun, but i think if i went on a rant about the other two, I'd be shot in the head lmao, I just do not care abt them. But WXS did make Cyber Punk Dead Boy so they have that going for em ig

I cannot stress enough how this argument isn't actually about what is or isn't or should be funny it's about people still jeering at a mildly jarring event that happened ages ago & that the entire story has moved on when absolutely much more unrealistic, batshit insane, out of touch plots are not only commonplace in project sekai but are literally its feature, but people move on from making jokes about other units in literal days, because they hate the story WE have and don't bother putting an ounce of thinking into making jokes that'll get them engagement on Social Media. But everything else they're allowing to slide or take at face value whereas VBS faces unique scorn and scepticism because... Rap battles funny I guess?... But theatre shows and composing songs aren't... Let's not unpack that sentiment today.

Also An's character is multiple things at once, not even mentioning that what you've described is very much kind of not a plotline she has (thus far).

- tsukasa is like. the one of maybe two openly gay people in your highschool and Knew early on that he only liked guys, where as akito i could see as either gay or bi, but tbf i dont think he gives a shit #marriedtothegrind

- everyone hears about the relationship from tsukasa but Noone believes it, it takes akito accidentally mentioning them going on a date for the rest of their friends to be like. wait for REAL? the news spreads like wildfire

- akito fell first and fell hard. cringe! tsukasa probably heard someone homophobic-ly joke about them dating after they kept having lunch together and was like "HAH HAH HAH thats crazy.... or is it...?"

- it takes them a while to get used to being a bit more up close and personal with it, but once they do they tend to give and take affection pretty equally - tsukasa tends to sprawl when they nap together so does that make him the big spoon...?

- every day akito wakes up to like three paragraphs of a good morning text and it makes him simultaneously shrivel up and also kick his legs n blush n shit. an sees one of the texts and makes fun of him for like a week straight

- tsukasa goes all in on the crazy romantic gestures both because he believes akito deserves the princely treatment but also feels like hes Supposed to do that in a relationship a la plays and musicals - he eventually settles and gets more comfortable with the idea of a everyday romance and enjoys it even more (still does crazy bs sometimes for funsies tho!)

- hc that tsukasa had like a 1 week (okay maybe like 5 days) long middle school relationship, probably in the middle of his gay realisation too lol. hes also kissed before, though only on stage. hes probably (platonically, Professionally) kissed almost everyone in wansho except nene lol

- akito tho, he honestly wouldntve even bothered with dating bc he was too busy Attaining His Goals tm. only now when hes more secure in his place in vbs does he think about it so hes still a bit behind, but honestly, not by much when compared to tsukasa

- i think the flood gates would open for akito (in terms of falling first) when tsukasa would talk about saki in response to akito mentioning ena, talking about his role as a big brother and how ena would feel the same way. as annoying akito thinks tsukasa is, tsukasa talking genuinely about something like this would probably strike a chord with him

- a lot of people (read: classmates, ppl who dont know tsukasa especially) thought they wouldnt really last very long - they only saw their loud silly antics and boke/tsukomi dynamic but they probably last for a good while. they end up having a very strong understanding of eachother and are both fiercely motivated and know what its like to have their goals feel unattainable. eventually akito starts getting what touya meant whenever he'd talk about tsukasa when they were kids, much to his dismay

- though, at some point i think they Do break up for practical reasons. honestly its the hardest for kohane to deal with because shes like. can i still go to pxl and watch him perform or do i have to be a Bro for akito

- outside of tsukasas senpai/dear kouhai schtick i think akito would really interest him and tsukasa would really value his opinion and input on his art - seeing how meticulous and dedicated he is to his own music! akito lives in a completely different artistic world to him and i think he would be a really good anchor to reality that tsukasa kind of needs (even if he doesnt realise he does)

Day 358! Had another vbs dream so story time!

TLDR: I unintentionally became VBS’s assistant during their stay in the US, and promised to help them win a competition that would help them afford the flight back home. (This one is looooong, buckle in)

The setting was this fine arts based summer school.

I started the day by oversleeping through my first classes, losing one of my sketch books on campus, and falling asleep in the class I did make it to (Ribbon-typical narcolepsy L).

While I was asleep in class they were going over this bracket style music competition and assigning students to interview each of the contestants.

I up being assigned to help VBS since no body else wanted to on the fact that the group didn’t speak much English and I couldn’t speak a lick of Japanese so…

Luka to the rescue!! Street Sekai Luka basically acted as my translator so we could get the interview done, but I wasn’t satisfied…

The group really seemed to be at a disadvantage with the language barrier so I did a little something extra and made custom background MV’s for their performances that had the English lyrics to their songs

This made their first battle a clean sweep as people as both their performance and the MV blew the competition out of the water (they sang Devil’s Manor).

I learned after that that they were kinda stuck in the US because they didn’t have enough money to afford a return ticket and the prize money would enough for them to buy a flight home.

Of course I agreed and basically became their assistant and translator (with the help of Luka) for their stay.

While waiting for my brother to pick me up a few things happened; some guy tried to flirt with An and when Kohane clinged to her saying that she was hers, it was like the guy just found out lesbians existed.

And I met up with a group for friends from an art class and lo and behold a certain brunette illustrator was using my lost sketchbook as inspiration for some of her own sketches.

Ena and I got to talking and that’s how I found out Akito was also a younger sibling. I promptly started bolting towards ginger around because my irl friendship language is being annoying and I wanted the deets on their relationship from his perspective.

While running I yelled something like “my brother is also a soccer player! You don’t think I know how to out endure you!” And I chased him around til he gave up and let me pester him lol.

We basically talked about being younger siblings and I even told him that while i think my brother’s cool that doesn’t stop me from hitting him with a plastic spoon for fun (real btw I did do that)

So yeah that was basically the dream, minimal Kohane moments but she was there.

I am preemptively saying that when the WAVE cover comes out this month it will be on this list unless they fuck it up so badly somehow (which I doubt). anyway

1. Alter Ego

Only thing that may withstand WAVE sweep. I love this cover so much you don't understand. The power in their voices contrasting with how Miku almost sounds... Dead I suppose? Which works well considering it's Alter Ego. Like Misumi's og version is good but VBS version is also good and they're so different despite being the same song gahhhh I love it. my only wish was that Kohane also got an alt. Curse you Gunjo Sanka (I kid ily Gunjo Sanka).

2. Kashika

I have (?) talked about how much I love Kashika before it doesn't need repeating. It's Kashika. Still the best comm ever.

3. Hitsuji Ga Ippiki

Kick It Up A Notch will forever be famous to me it's what took me from "yeah Kohane is my fav character in this game" (Awakening Beat's fault) to "Kohane has reached a level of beloved only one other character has ever achieved" that solo song was life changing. And Hitsuji Ga Ippiki is equally life changing definitely a song to listen to on loop.

4. Ultra C

Recency bias be damned because I am also Kohane biased lmao. This was the perfect song to round off the RAD Weekend stuff with. Giga/Teddyloid/Reol commission was also the right call 100% idc what people think OVER RAD SQUAD!! was an almost perfect event for how they have taken VBS's story in my eyes.

5. Rekka

This could have also been Beyond The Way. Or Unaware Drunkard. Or Marshall Maximizer. Or YY. Or Odo or Shanti or Gekokujou or any other Akito comm or Beat Eater or any of their covers since Egoist or Children Record or Devil's Manner or Daybreak Frontline or Imperial Girl. What I'm saying is that I like VBS covers and commissions and choosing a top five gets hard because the top 4 are (more or less) set in stone so ???? But it's Rekka because Niki and Whip The Wimp Girl and An Shiraishi and AnHane progressing as a duo. Uh yeah.
