Found a whole bunch of vegetarian and vegan food for my partner and kid to have this year again and each year it’s getting so much better for this! The embracing of diet which isn’t just slabs of meat everywhere is wonderful and has needed to happen for many years. Not everyone can cook a vegetarian meal from scratch! And come ON, party food? Hello??? It was rarely stocked out here in the countryside like it was more so in the city. I’m glad I could do this for them. Vegan tempura nests? And things like faux king prawns and all kinds of things! Vegan turkey? Wreaths? No pressure for nut roast and biscuits or fkin nothing (exaggeration but not really). I’m seeing dozens of people queuing at the Butchers and is that because they wanna or is it because they think they have to? Or what?
I’m not strictly vegetarian and anyone that makes the excuse that they’re not vegetarian so “can’t” incorporate decent vegetarian food into the holiday meals are just being lazy aha, you’re eating half a plate of vegetarian food which lets be honest, it’s pretty lame I mean potatoes and sprouts, sprouts being one of the most famous gross vegetables available😂.
“I don’t get people who decide to go plant based and then buy food that looks like meat”, well, why do people who eat meat buy food that doesn’t “look like meat”? Because a sausage sure doesn’t look like a pig. Likewise, why? Just because you don’t want to eat an animal, doesn’t mean you don’t get to be allowed to enjoy the taste, aha. It allows people to still eat it without needing to eat an animal and not enjoying that aspect. Intolerant meat eaters complain a lot about the “nasty taste of vegetables” then get aggy about people otherwise enjoying the taste more than a plain carrot (for example).
There’s so many delicious foods out there that don’t require incredibly expensive cuts of meat with everything! It just irritates me sometimes how OTT people go when it comes to eating meat unnecessarily? And how rude some get towards anyone does anything else. There’s never a need for the whole table to be full of meat food and upset faces of people who don’t eat it once again going without. 😩 Season of family and friends though right? 👀 It’s not hard to be selfless and incorporate plant based options for people, it isn’t! I am the minority for eating meat in my little family, I don’t eat much but it all works fine! Nobody is ever left out. I don’t get the flat out refusal to try. It’s not just often vegetables with no seasoning on which is what most people will only add on the side of a steak as it is?
It’s not hard to Google what to do either if you don’t know, or dare say it, ask. This isn’t just with vegetarian/vegan food, this is having things to hand for a plate of food for anyone with a different diet to you that you’re inviting. Diabetic, allergies, dishes which respect their faith if they’re wanting to come over to respect yours or your traditions as well, the least you can do is return it. If you can’t afford it, say they are free to bring their own food that they know they can eat or would like to, so everyone can sit down comfortably and have a meal and enjoy themselves rather than old school culture of feeling forced.
I love ketchup on loads of food. Roast dinner included! It makes everything nicer for me and even more so when I used to dislike gravy as a kid but I got endless comments about it. It doesn’t matter! It’s a time to enjoy a treat, and food we love, like any other holiday or special occasion. That’s the point. Stop making people uncomfortable excluding them!
Happy solstice for the 21st as well~ and a good autumn and winter for any other things people were doing during this time. 🍵
Share what you got up to if you like, I’d love to hear it, in my comments or ask box! Or, what you enjoyed eating for a treat or for any religious holiday you’ve engaged with. Have a lot of fun and also if I don’t get chance to say it before, Happy New Year!
Hi. So, I saw Mikey feed Odyn a bottle of (presumably) milk, but what other things do the turtle tots like to eat?
It was indeed milk!
We don't truly know how exactly ronin Mikey grew up but I'm assuming that in like most iterations of the turtles, food and a place to stay were hard to come by when growing up, specially when Mikey and his brothers were babies. Because of this, Mikey knows what is like growing hungry and not letting any food they had the luck of having go to waste.
In the comic Mikey is shown growing his own crops and harvesting them So in the au Mikey grows his own vegetables and fruits making it easier for him to prepare food for the babies. He tries his best to make a large variety of dishes for them because he wants them to try as much they want and never go hungry. Since Mikey is a turtle mutant himself he tries to makes dishes that would appeal to their turtle cravings too, like algae! In addition to this, in the au Mikey sells his harvest to nearby towns to manage with money or stuff he and the babies need for the house! (like ingredients to make homemade pizza :] )The people from the towns he usually visits don't really mind him or the babies because they are aware they are Hamato clan members and the people from the towns actually like having the little turtle family around! (Since Mikey can't really leave the babies on their own yet (not like he wants to either), the towns knows of their existance and they love them)
Robin's parents while I do HC them as children of Italian and French immigrants, (multilingual household!!) And therefore that has sway on cooking and food in the house, are also domesticated hippies and I fully believe they probably at least had a vegetarian phase (that maybe didn't last) and they still swear by Laurel's Kitchen. Possibly Thee vegetarian cookbook of the 70s and 80s. Living on the kitchen counter they have the box of old family recipes written and rewritten on cards all sorted and labeled beside a fat brown hardcover recipe book that's got splatters and carrot stains on it. It's been there for ages and it's got pictures and Robin loves it.
When Robin moves out with Steve her parents give her the family recipes newly printed in both her parents hands and a second hand copy of the cookbook that hasn't got nearly the amount of stains the one of her childhood does (but it will) which will also live in every kitchen they have.
the amount of effort that goes into figuring out what to cook and eat every day is RIDICULOUS. i used to think people were so weird and boring for eating the same thing every single day but it truly does make life so much easier
can we talk about how genuinely horrifying the stepmother EATING the stepsisters imagery was like brennan really said bloody hand prints suggest she was on all fours in her finery and there’s a femur cracked open to eat the bone marrow…. like truly my worst ever
my parents are lowkey shitting their pants cause my sister wants only vegetarian food on her wedding because both her and her bf are vegetarian.. like my mom is fighting for her LIFE to have meat options there likeee????? 💀💀 GIRL CHILL it wont kill you to not have meat at ONE event jesus fucking christ
"i cant even imagine..." "think about it more" "i just want you to consider us-" SHUT UP !!!!!!!!!!!
"i cant imagine.. not having a piece of meat on a wedding..." THEN DONT GO LITERALLY SHUT UP!!!! ITS NOT YOUR WEDDING!!!! ITS ONE NIGHT OF NO MEAT!!!! YOU WILL LIVE!!!!!!!!!!
We took all the puppies to the beach yesterday with Matt's brother and his wife! They were all so good! Usually Maggie and Daisy the jack russell end up fighting but they were very polite and respectful of each other and it made us all so proud and really gave us hope that one day they'll be able to be in the house together for family gatherings🤞 we didn't have to keep them away from each other either they were actually able to greet each other and sniff and chase a ball together but still keep out of each other's faces
And we went to a restaurant for lunch where they had little huts outside to sit in, it was so cute. We all sat in one of those and had the most delicious food. Matt and I shared flatbread with houmous, chips and mixed garlic mushrooms on toast which were sooo good omg. And again the dogs were so good! We fully expected to have to put Maggie in the car while we ate if she was going to upset Daisy but she lay under the table and the little ones sat up on the bench and they were a little tense but they did really well and didn't bother each other. And Maggie didn't even bark at the waitress serving us when she would open the door to bring us our food. Our big brave girl 🥰🥰
And between last night and today I've finally dealt with the spare bedroom! Painted the previously green wall and finally papered over the dinosaurs 😂 getting rid of my dressing table and swapped it for a desk that we can work at. All done by myself in a day and a half! A job that's been stressing me out every time I've gone in that room for the past year 😂 I'm so proud of myself. Having a lovely little time doing all my home improvements while I'm not working - sticky tiles for the kitchen arriving tomorrow so that's the next project 👷♀️
Plan for tomorrow is to walk Maggie, work out, do some online Christmas shopping while waiting for the tiles to arrive and then get those straight on the wall while I'm on a roll 💪
More mers! Brain’s obsessed with them again for a bit. Both clans are gonna struggle for a bit because none of them have current housing structures that can accommodate for Markoth. The pokemers are not small by any means - Adaman is large by virtue of being a Milotic - Markoth is just that big.
Also working out how to implement the pokemon here, as well as Ingo being hit with just how fast a mer develops parental instincts for young mers (he’s not realised his own developed instincts yet)
Dawn and Odessa hang around Ingo a lot since all three have been cursed mers (haven’t worked out the plot yet tbh) so Markoth just assumed Ingo was their caretaker and wondering how they’re decently fed despite Ingo doing no hunting (this interaction happens absolutely before Markoth realises Dawn and Odessa are communicating with humans)
Going on a trip with my friends in less than a month sooooo excited. However. While we will mostly be eating quick and easy meals or going out I would like to cook a nice meal for them at least one evening of our trip. The problem is that one of them is the pickiest mfer alive and the other is vegetarian so I feel the need to prep weeks in advance lol
