Master Eraqus Ain't Shit
So I decided to wake up and choose violence today.
"Oh brother, this guy stinks!"
In Dark Road, we see that Eraqus has always had the same black and white mentality. He’s always believed that only light should exist, and that darkness should be destroyed. Even Xehanort, who was the same age as him, could understand that there needs to be a balance between light and darkness.
And even well into his old age, Eraqus never changed his mindset.
This line of thinking was so pervasive that it stopped him from making Terra a keyblade master. If Terra had never visibly manifested his darkness, it’s possible that both him and Aqua could’ve been made keyblade masters. Not that I’m blaming Terra or anything, I’m just sayin.
Xehanort told Terra in Radiant Garden that he could study under Eraqus for years, and yet he would never make him a master. I think he’s 100% right.
Both Terra and Aqua would end up internalizing this mindset in different ways:
Since he was on the receiving end of the darkness slander, Terra developed a deep insecurity. And some of the villains, especially Xehanort, were able to take advantage of him partially as a result of this insecurity and partially due to his own naivety. His journey was all about finding out how to control it, but bc he wasn’t properly mentored on how to do so, he failed.
Aqua took on this mentality along with Eraqus’s self-righteousness. She was about to prematurely attack or possibly even kill Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella if she hadn’t been stopped by Fairy Godmother. And later on, I feel like this mentality contributed to her thinking differently of Terra. But then again, there was a lot of miscommunication between the three of them. And that miscommunication caused a rift in their friendship.
And with Ventus, when Eraqus learned that Xehanort was planning on using him to form the X-blade, his immediate response was to kill him. Albeit, with some remorse.
Like sir, that’s your friend. You decided to let him back into your life after he wrote that sorry ass apology letter to you. You invited him back into your home. That means he manipulated you too. If he’s the one that’s putting your kids in danger, you need to go after him, not Ventus.
Imagine for a second if Terra had arrived too late (or didn’t arrive at all) and Eraqus succeeded in killing Ventus. The amount of emotional damage that would’ve done to him and Aqua is unfathomable. He put both Ven and Terra in so much danger. Yes, in the end, he realized the atrocity that he almost committed, but it was too little too late. He was lucky that the best-case-scenario happened. Well, I guess the best-case-scenario would have been for all of them to survive and jump Xehanort, but it's better that the kids survived.
As a follow up to that, imagine if Terra lost the fight and was killed. Eraqus is a master keyblader after all, so he's no slouch in battle. He whooped my ass many times when I played it recently. But anyways, that could’ve been two bodies on Eraqus’ hands. He is so unfit to be a mentor to anyone.
SPOILERS for Dark Road: now given what Eraqus and Xehanort went thru in DR, it makes sense as to why he would have such an extreme response to darkness. The fact that darkness is what killed their classmates, and the fact that Xehanort had to put down Baldur himself when he got corrupted. That moment would change the both of them forever. And any child would be deeply traumatized in seeing their friends get murdered on by one. But it doesn’t excuse what he attempted to do. Again, he put the lives of two of his three students in danger.
As a rewrite for this scene, maybe he could’ve contacted Aqua and told her to come home immediately once he realized what was happening. Maybe go to Yen Sid’s tower and link up with Mickey, Donald and Goofy, and the six of them plan a coordinated jumping on Xehanort. Sometimes ppl need to be jumped, you know? Like “Hey, Xehanort has gone off the deep end. He nearly used Ven to try to form the X-blade. We need to stop him before he tries this again.”
EDIT: I did really enjoy the reunion scene in KH3. It was nice that the Wayfinder trio at least got to see him one last time.
And in his character file, Terra feels immense guilt and wants Eraqus's forgiveness. I can only imagine the amount of guilt one would feel after an experience like that. There was no way he could predict the consequence of being Xehanort's pawn for 10 years.
But as a childhood trauma survivor, I know as much as the next survivor that you don't owe your parents/parental figures forgiveness. They owe you. Eraqus should've been the one asking for Terra's forgiveness, not the other way around.
I think bc he's presented as one of the "good guys" some folks may have been quick to overlook some of his actions.
But then again, if he did everything perfectly, this wouldn’t be as interesting to talk about.
TDLR: Eraqus fucked around and found out

Telling Ven and Roxas apart headcanons:
- Aqua, Terra, Lea, and Sora almost never mix them up. When they do, it's usually when they're distracted and barely paying attention to which one they're talking to. It's just that easy for them to tell from their personalties, manners, how they speak, and the minor differences in their appearances. However, as everyone gets used to having both Roxas and Ventus around, they start accidentally mixing their names up the way parents do with their kids - they're not really thinking that Ventus IS Roxas, they know this is Ventus, but Roxas is the name that came out of their mouth anyway. This eventually happens a lot and Roxas jokes that they should wear name tags. Ventus says that it wouldn't help.
- Isa and Naminé can mostly tell them apart but sometimes they like. Squint at the boys, unsure. Naminé will just be like 'are you Roxas or Ventus' (Ven: It's Ven :)! Roxas: wow Naminé I'd never mix YOU up with Kairi or Xion god). Isa doesn't like to ask but eventually he will if he can't figure it out.
- Riku can't tell them apart at a glance, but after engaging them in conversation he can figure it out pretty quick. Mainly because Ven is really friendly with him and Roxas not as much.
- Kairi is confused at first but then gets really good at telling.
- Vanitas never mixes them up, but he will tease Roxas about 'stealing' his brother's face and is also rude to him a lot.
- Xion can also always tell them apart. It's kind of uncanny: even if one of them comes up to her and she only gets a glimpse of them, without hearing them speak or them do anything distinctive, she knows exactly who it is. Does she just know them both that well, or is it a weird side effect of her mimickery? No one knows.
- Yen Sid and Mickey insist it's 'obvious' which is which. Though Mickey has definitely called Roxas 'Ven' by accident.
- Donald and Goofy are honestly a little lost.
- Most of the Radiant Garden lot are as well, but Aerith can tell them apart. Leon and Cloud usually avoid names just in case.
- Hayner/Pence/Olette find it very trippy that Ventus looks like Roxas, but they take a couple minutes to learn the differences between them and then never mix them up.

Things heard in the land of departure pt.2:
1
Roxas: Oh sorry, I can’t take part today. Why? Well because according to Master Terra, aiming Thundaga at Riku with extreme prejudice is “bullying” and I “have to stop”.
Sora: Remember that time that my mom took us to- OH MY GODS MY MOM!!!!
Kairi: Behind all this pink awaits a vile temperament that I fully intend to beat your ass with.
Lea: I really wish people would stop assuming that I protect Kairi. That girls packing federal charges on three separate worlds. I protect everyone else FROM Kairi.
Roxas: Ven and I are not the same. For starters, I do not think footie pyjamas are “neat”.
Ven: *running past Sora* If Riku asks it was Roxas, he’ll believe that!
Riku: How’s my day going? Horribly, that’s how!
Sora: “sleep is for the weak!” No, sleep is for the desperate, which I am! Goodnight! *pulls blanket over his head*
Riku: It baffles me that Terra trusts me to hit people with a deadly weapon, and yet he still doesn’t trust that I won’t approach the liquor cabinet with the same level of maturity. *Explosion sounds behind him. Xion and Sora screech.* Never mind, I’m starting to get it now…
Sora: sometimes when you travel with Donald and Goofy you just gotta smile first, then have the brake down later.
Roxas: are you okay?
Sora: *voice brakes* I’m great!
Aqua: okay kids, we are going to play a game. It’s called “give master Aqua some peace for five minutes” now fuck off.
Ven: *dragging Lea into the infirmary* would you believe me if I told you he looked this fucked up when I found him?
Terra: Ah, a nice easy day. No training, no emergencies. Just me my book and… *sighs* the deadly wall of unlit fireworks that are sitting directly near my chair. *snaps book closed*
Ven: *sadly* I do not have the mouska-tools for this situation.
Isa: Another day, another chance to get wailed on by five year olds. I’m so glad I agreed to do this!
Terra: I do not have a favourite student *behind him Sora, Roxas and Xion are struggling in the grips of a hydra, while Ven and Riku sit off to the side munching on ice cream.*
Kairi: make direct I contact with me one more time, I dare you!
Aqua: maybe if I lay here like I’m dead they’ll leave me alone.
Ven: Hi Aqua.
Aqua: fuck
Terra: if you’re looking for Riku, he’s gone to throw himself off the clock tower.
Xion: can someone pass me an ice pack? I think I’ve bruised my own ego.
Aqua: *spray Kairi in the face with a plant mister* bad student! No murder on the furniture!

Yeah so I drew some young Max Goof because I drew baby Ciss and since they're beasties and wanted to draw him too I did
I drew but then, to do better, I watch Goof's Troop y'know, for the personality, better charadesign and all... and I discovered that Max wasn't nine like I thought but E-LE-VEN. A PRE-TEEN. A MIDDLE SCHOOLER.
But he's so smoooool 😟🤏🏾 am I already an old adult at 21 only...
Anyway, Goofy and Bugs met at a agency's party between Warner Bros INC and Disney INC in my lore, Bugs working on the Looney Tunes and Goofy and Max on Goof's Troop -before it stops-, and that's when the kids met ! sooo is it really that bad I messed up the age--
Honestly that's a very bad tentative to hide my mistake but I tried I guess

Enjoy~

You know who desreves a break?
Sora.
Sora deserves the biggest warmest hug, a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and a day off from everyone's shit.
My boy had to go save his best friend from his other best friend.
Went all over the world's to find them.
Literally gave up up heart for a bit to save Kairi, became a heartless and than somehow managed to return.
Donald and Goofy drop his ass the second it's revealed Riku was the chosen one and not Sora.
Because yeah they have a duty to fulfill but the fact they thought it was okay to just abandon him in some random ass world like yesterday's rubbish.
Is just all kinds of awful.
Fuck me I'd never trust anyone again if I was Sora.
And yeah he gets em back and everything's fine.
Cept everything is not fine.
The mark of mastery exam is bullshit.
The whole thing was bullshit.
And the nerve, the nerve people have to make fun of Sora and tease him for not passing.
Is complete bullshit.
The whole thing was hacked.
Xehanort was this close to claiming Sora's soul.
I'm sorry when was that part of the test?
Thank fuck for Lea.
And just oh Sora your not a master why didn't you try harder and not get almost Norted.
Talking as if he hasn't saved all of your collective asses.
Multiple times.
Mock and make fun of him all of the time and laugh when he's upset.
Sora is the single most kindest best person in the world's.
He gave Ventus sanctuary as a kid because he heard a person in need.
How sweet is that?
I just know Ven absolutely adores him.
How can u not?
And yet these asshole's are always on his back for something he literally had no power over.
Riku literally turned evil and no one says anything.
But Sora almost got possessed and he's the actual worst.
I hate it here.
Sora deserves only good things.

I feel like we should look more closely at Sora’s very first and most iconic line in the series; “i’ve been having these weird thoughts lately…. like, is any of this for real, or not?”
i’m quite surprised i’ve never seen anyone analyze it because there’s a lot to unpack from it.
the first thing that dawned on me is how mature it is. sora is known to be a silly, childish character. innocent, and naive. but the way he says this line, it sounds so introspective. in the story sora is shown to be a care-free kid. as his adventure goes on we see him experience and express complex emotions but because he’s fourteen they’re a bit emotionally immature. he doesn’t know how to articulate the big things he feels in charming words because that’s difficult for any fourteen year old to do but he does feel things deeply. this line shows in clearer, raw terms what kinds of things sora feels in the depths of his heart. it’s a pretty big thing for a kid to wonder, an existential thought that the things that happen around him might be trying to fool him. and sora doesn’t let on that he feels this at all on the outside, not to donald and goofy, not to riku and kairi, not even to the player. he might not even be conscious that he does feel this way himself, it could just be a gnawning feeing in the back of his head he doesn’t pay attention to or doesn’t notice. but regardless he does feel this uncertainty, and only in the depths of his heart can it be expressed. cue falling onto a stain glass pillar.
and sora feeling this way is very interesting. the line is so vague, it could be interpreted so many ways. what exactly doesn’t feel real to sora any more? life in the broad term? maybe he was slowly growing out of the island as he saw riku growing away from him. maybe it felt dull and boring without his best friend, like a tv show sora was an audience member to with no control over his life. maybe it was about riku himself? the facade of friendship they kept up as a distance grew between them making it difficult to tell between what was real and what was an act.
maybe it was the keyblade whispering in sora’s ear. or darkness stirring within the island. maybe everything felt like a play reaching its rising action. maybe sora was just waiting for the shoe to drop, to the strange tight feeling and eeriness on the island that something was going to happen.
or maybe, sora’s been dreaming. the line is said before sora fights the darkside and as we see he awakes from a nap after, meaning he hasn’t visited the depths of his heart yet. so what else could he be dreaming out? maybe it’s ven. just like how ven saw sora’s adventures in sleep, maybe sora saw ven’s memories as well. maybe he could feel him in his heart, feel things that weren’t quite real, like they were someone else’s feelings.
putting interpretation aside, this line shows off one of sora’s underrated skills off well: observation. sora is very aware of a lot of things around him, most of all he’s emotionally observant
somehow a part of him feels that something is unreal. and he’s also aware that having thoughts like that is strange. no one else seems to be thinking the same thing, on the outside he’s all alone in that thought. what doesn’t feel real to him? the picturesque life on an island with his best friends? maybe a moment of Suspension when he becomes aware of himself or the world while life continues on around him? just what set off this thought, this observation in sora? how long before kh1 was sora getting this feeling. was it the keyblade? was it kingdom hearts? i have to know, and with the like making a comeback in kh4 i really hope they go in depth with it because this most iconic line has haunted me for years

as ur designated kh mutual here is what information i can give you <3
The main character kills himself on screen - yep! debatably happens twice even, but i believe the time op is talking about is that time sora stabbed himself in the heart with the very pointy end of the keyblade of heart. this successfully killed him, releasing his, kairi's, and questionably ven's hearts.
A character beats the shit out of an ordinary house cat - yep! ven has a fun little adventure where he is the size of a mouse and during this time he fights the cat from cinderella. over a bead.
Goofy dies - yes he does. the famous time when he was hit in the head with a boulder as a sacrifice, protecting mickey. and the less famous time when he along with all the rest of the main characters died a gruesome death in the first timeline of the second keyblade war.
A man clones a guy just 'cause he's there - sorta! riku replica (repliku) was created to 'test riku's strength' by vexen when riku showed up in castle oblivion. later repliku was also used to help achieve marluxia's goal of turning sora into a puppet of the organization.
For one game people can "smell" darkness and it is never mentioned again - unfortunately. yes. riku and zexion are smelling people all game long. this is where the classic "I knew when I met you, you and Kairi smell the same" line comes from. after chain of memories this ability and trait of darkness and potentially light having a smell is never brought up again.
A major game mechanic once was befriending dead kids who are now cute animals - yep!!! dream drop distance features the dream eaters which we now know to be the 'sleeping' hearts of all of the keyblade wielders who died in the (first) keyblade war.
It is implied the main characters parents died during the first game - yep! it is implied that just about everyone on destiny islands died when it fell to darkness, much like the residents of all other fallen worlds. this includes sora's parents. worry not as this is still a disney game so everyone is brought back and totally fine once the world is restored.
The conflict is once temporarily solved by throwing a character through a door - mhmm! yeetus vanitas as it were.
A character can wield pizza as a weapon - and finally. yep!! in 358/2 days characters can be equipped with a range of weapons, each kind of weapon unique to the character wielding it. one of these sets were a series of 'joke weapons' which included things like an umbrella, hair dryers, and a tennis racket. in this case, axel wields chakrams normally and his joke weapon was two pizzas.
hope this helps <3333
kingdom hearts is not a real video game series

Do you have any ideas as to how they may explain Ephemer helping Sora in later games? I’m losing faith that they’ll bring it up at all
I definitely have faith they will bring it up in ML, or at the very least, the Tear in Time, given how it's referenced in DR (spoilers). I consider the "Tear in Time" and the "Light of the Past" to be two distinct things, but so closely associated that if ML answers the former, it will hopefully shed light on the latter. And if ML FINALLY explains why Eraqus knew both about the Tear in Time and Light of the Past in KH3 flashbacks (as I suspect Brain is somehow responsible), then ML could reveal more about Ephemer's appearance in KH3.
Now besides ML possibly revealing information, this is my theory about what's going on-- at least from the "modern KH time" perspective that I don't think ML will go over:
With the Dandelions appearing as Keyblades during The Light of the Past scene, I theorize it's like Terra and Ven's Keyblades with Aqua, where it's only their hearts reaching out, where the Dandelions themselves are still asleep elsewhere, still protected by their Chirithies-turned-Dream Eaters.
Now it's important to distinguish that the Dream Eaters we use in DDD are not, I don't believe at least, Chirithy-Dream Eaters, because we create those ourselves out of dream pieces, and Joshua describes Dream Eaters as "giving your dreams shape". But I do think it's possible the Dream Eaters Sora summons in KH3 are Chirithy-Dream Eaters, which would explain why they appear outside Sleeping Worlds, since Chirithy already have that ability.
I personally theorize Sora met the Chirithy-Dream Eaters during his trip between DDD and 0.2, which we know nothing about because he tells Donald and Goofy it's a secret. I also think it's possible he already met Ephemer during this, as Ephemer never introduces himself to Sora during the Light of the Past, or vice versa, and Sora never mentions Ephemer to the other Guardians of Light, and I think it's BECAUSE Sora's trip was a secret. IDK the interaction gives me "Nameless Star tells Sora Yozora's name" where Sora makes a weird face, but it's because he's familiar with him. But IDK we'll see!
Now. As for how Ephemer was able to show himself to Sora, I have no idea. I don't think he's asleep like the other dandelions, because Ephemer had to have grown old enough to have kids, and he's still a teen to Sora. So it might be some new form of time travel we've never seen before, but I don't know how likely that is either. Especially because I personally theorize the other Union Leaders (save Brain) were able to time travel to "modern KH times" to disney worlds because they were written of in the Book of Prophecies. But Ephemer appearing to Sora is AFTER the end of the book, so I would think that's impossible for Ephemer to time travel with the Book as his waypoint... And while this aspect, I really don't have any leads, I will say that this is the area I think ML will hopefully go over.
I unfortunately have to go so I'm sorry I can't polish this answer more as I'd like. But I hope this restores your faith at least a little!!

ONG THERES SO MUCH I FORGOT IN MY INFODUMP ABOUT ELLIOT!!
first of all he’s a short bby 💃 i love him so FREAKING much oh and he has daddy issues because his father and him are no contact because of a big incident but… 🤭
also elliot is literally so good with kids. need your baby to sleep? BOOM elliot gets it done. need your kid to stop crying? BOOM elliot dunnit. also i’m contemplating making him and ayuna un-canonically dead, or maybe just killing one, or killing one of their kids. but it would be so tasty savoury delectable if elliot kept pestering ayuna “we need to settle down so we can build a life together” and have kids and whatnot but then NO the kid DIES i’m sorry for causing my ocs so much suffering.
him and ayuna are the cutest dynamic they’re catgirl and dogboy sunshine and grumpy everything.
i’m so sorry for the bad grammar by the way.
fun facts about elliot:
he loves haribo + jolly ranchers
he had a sister named sora but she died 🫶 maybe not idk tho
he’s good at singing (he can’t sing in english tho)
-
oh!! and i originally created elliot as a part of seven (7) ocs or something that were meant to be like guardian angels/guardian demons but they were neither of those, just a spirit attached to a person that helped the person when they needed it. ayuna was one of the spirits too, along with a girl called ven, OMG I JUST REMEMBERED ARACHNA!!, and a guy called dearyl who everyone hates btw dearyl slander 🫶
dearyl and ayuna have such a good dynamic too but dearyl is such a crappy person it’s kind of hot
i have some drawings of all these peeps but i aint home rn so i can’t attach them :(
here’s how it went originally: ven = snake motif, elliot (smiley) = clown motif, arachna = arachnid/spider motif, ayuna = marionette motif, and dearyl was like.. the puppetmaster. bc they’re like a sideshow of goofy spirits right.
also i cant decide if arachna is aroace or dating ven or both. also i made three completely unrelated ocs based off the bunny bunny game.
thanks for listening.
omg i love him. also i’m curious about the kumcha OCs. and sorry this took a while lmao

Someone to Watch Out for You: Chapter 15
They Call It Wonder
Summary: In which Sabrina hates Wonderland, but encounters someone that makes things a bit more interesting. Meanwhile, Ventus and Snow White reconnect, and Snow White tells Ven something he doesn’t want to hear. Word Count: 2,330 First | Previous | Next ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆ ⚬ ☆
It didn't take long for Sabrina to decide she hated Wonderland. She hated it so much, she refused to remove her Keyblade armor. A world like this was unnatural to her. Order was chaos, and chaos was order- it just didn’t make sense. Next thing you were going to tell her was that this world had some sort of vorpal blade that could take down a nonsensically named creature with the sound of a snicker-snack, or something like that.
It was just her luck that the Princess of Heart here, Alice by name, was whisked away to some trial just as Sabrina got to talk to her. It was going to complicate things. A lot of things, actually, if Sabrina wanted to care for the world order. And did she want to? Order was chaos, and chaos was order in good old Wonderland. It wouldn’t  surprise her if the residents here were fully aware of other worlds and Keyblade wielders- they just didn't say anything about it because it felt like common knowledge. Saying you didn’t know was the bigger joke.
Which was why Sabrina found herself quite amused to see Goofy and Donald with a boy about a year or so younger than her. This boy immediately made the court come to a standstill when he burst forward, swearing on Alice’s innocence in a matter that was quite obviously the result of the Heartless. That, of course, got Alice caged until further notice, which was annoying, but at least it was a stationary place in the meantime.
If she had remembered she was in Wonderland, Sabrina would have made a greater effort to bust Alice out instead. But to that point, was going along with the trial just following the world order? Maybe being in Wonderland affected your line of thinking all around. Or, at the very least, Sabrina’s.
Or maybe that kid really did just amuse her, and she wanted to see what he was capable of.
“So you decided to look for evidence to clear Alice’s name?” she said to the trio as they entered the Lotus Forest. “You keep following your heart so blindly, you might get hurt one day.”
Their attention had not been on her right away. Her speaking had made all three jump in surprise.
“Who are you?” the boy quickly asked.
Sabrina let out a less than sincere laugh.
“Let’s just say I’m someone who wants to help.” she said to him. “And, unlike someone else, is far more patient than to blindly jump into another world’s affairs.”
The boy immediately recoiled at this. He even sheepishly scratched the tip of his nose just so he couldn’t look at her. It reminded her of Ven.
“That voice…” Goofy murmured to himself, but did not mention anything else. From under her helmet, Sabrina shot the goof a rather hard look. He caught it, by some instinctive luck, and very quickly understood.
“There’s two pieces of evidence for you to find in this area. Then two more in areas that can be accessed from here.” Sabrina then told the boy. “I’ll make a way that’s easy for you to carry them back. Just make sure you give the queen the right one- otherwise it may be off with your head.”
“Got it.” the boy nodded.
Sabrina smirked from under her helmet. Watching this kid was going to be entertaining, for sure.
. . .
Ven looked down at the pie slice, gently prodding it with his fork.
“Is something wrong, Ven?” Snow White politely asked. “Your pie has surely gone cold by now.”
Ven gave a light smile before looking to Snow White. It was so odd to him; Snow White hadn’t aged a day from when he first met her. Every so often, there were jokes that he and a few others at Disney Castle never aged too, but it was a known fact that it was just an artifact of living in that world. He never really considered that particular property could exist in other worlds as well.
“I guess I’m just not that hungry,” he admitted. “I’m sorry. I bet it tastes really good, though.”
“I understand.” Snow White agreed. “How about we take a walk, then? I’m sure we could spend a little time away before dinner.”
“Sure.” Ven agreed with a small smile. “I’d like that.”
The first thing Ventus noticed when they stepped outside was the lack of Heartless. Even the spot where he knew they appeared frequently had nothing to show for it. Ven, who had linked his arm around Snow White’s as they walked, held her even closer. Snow White didn’t make any mention to his gesture. Instead, she hummed a small tune to herself.
As the two walked along the low path back to the Second District, the doors to the hotel opened up. Ven unconsciously made a look over and found himself in surprise to see Huey, Dewey, and Louie coming out.
“What are those three doing here?” he mumbled under his breath. Apparently, it wasn’t quiet enough to go under Snow White’s radar.
“What was that, Ven?” she politely inquired.
“Nothing.” he sheepishly told her. “I was just talking to myself. I thought I saw a group of kids from my world. Not sure what they’d be doing here, though. I wouldn’t think their uncle would let them travel the worlds alone…”
“Perhaps they got separated? It’s been happening so often now.”
Ven looked down and frowned. “I guess.” he agreed.
“Our world fell to darkness a very long time ago.”
Ven’s head shot back up. He looked over at Snow White, who likewise had a more passive expression on her face.
“My prince didn’t make it to this world like the dwarves and I did. He simply isn’t here. I’ve looked all over for him.”
Ven looked back down. “I should have come to help sooner.”
“No.” Snow White disagreed with a small shake of her head. “What happened back then was inevitable. But the worlds returning to their original states are as well. We will all meet again. I believe in it.”
Snow White made them pause in their walk for a moment. She turned to face Ven so they were looking each other in the eye. She took his hands in both of hers and held them tight. Her expression was grave as she then told Ven, “You won’t be able to save the Princesses of Light, Ventus. Not even me. We will all fall to darkness soon.”
. . .
Messing with this kid was a lot like messing with Ven. It brought back that little piece of control she didn’t think she’d have here. However, messing with this kid wouldn’t end up in a moment of vulnerability like it did when she messed with Ven. She absolutely wouldn’t allow it. That had taken years to develop, and she didn’t plan on knowing this kid for more than a day- at most.
“You gotta jump for it, kid.” Sabrina taunted, her foot gently balancing on top of the box containing the next evidence.
“You’re kidding!" he pouted back in return. "There’s no way I can make it over there.”
Sabrina cocked an eyebrow at him. Sure, there was quite a bit of distance from the faucet he landed on to the wooden counter where she was standing. However it certainly wasn’t impossible.
“I did.” she pointed out, rather bluntly. “Why can’t you?”
The kid hesitated. “Because…”
“You’re chicken?”
That got exactly the reaction she wanted.
“Hey!” he shouted at her. “You can’t just say that to people!”
“Then prove me wrong.” Sabrina challenged. “Get a decent start, and when you’re almost there, make a swing with your Keyblade. The swing will give you enough momentum to cheat the rest of the jump. You follow?”
The kid gave her a grunt in return. He took a few steps back before leaping off the faucet and to the counter. It surprised Sabrina that he had actually been listening- he did end up using a forceful Keyblade swing to reach. Both feet soon firmly landing on the counter without any hiccups.
“Ha!” the boy cheered. “Told you I could do it.”
He gave her a boastful grin as he picked up the last piece of evidence. Placing it somewhere safe, he turned to her and was quickly in shock of how close they were. Sabrina bent down, only a little, so that the boy could see the faintest outline of her eyes through the Keyblade armor helmet.
“See you at the trial.” she all but purred before leaping down. The boy blinked, watching her as she made her way out of the bizarre room and back to the court.
“That person is nuts.” Sora decided in a half mumble.
. . .
Snow White had punched Ventus in the gut, and all she did was give him a heartbroken smile.
“Is there nothing I can do to protect you?” he asked, for the fifth time since they sat down. He couldn’t believe that Snow White, of all people, would say such a dismal fear out loud. And even then, she was still smiling. There must have been something. He couldn't let her down too. He never wanted to fail to protect someone again.
“No.” the princess said with a shake of her head. “But I do wish for you to be there when we awaken. Don’t give up hope just yet, alright?”
Ven let out a scoff of disbelief.
“Even when you’re telling me that what we’re doing is a waste of time?”
Snow White jumped in surprise, as if that line of thought wasn't what she was getting at.
“Oh! It’s not a waste!" she insisted. "You’ll be our hope. That small little ember that keeps the flames of hope alive. But you’re much brighter than an ember- always have.”
"And I have a lot to show for it," Ven shot back. "I couldn't protect my friends. You're telling me I can't protect you..."
Snow White tilted her head at him. She carefully reached over to take a hold of his hand.
"You've changed, you know." she softly told him. "Although, not in any physical way. I don't know what happened to cause so much doubt in your heart, but at the same time I know that you've had plenty of good times to balance the bad. We'll have more good times, but sometimes we have to have a bad day to make them even better. Hope is only lost when you no longer have something to hope for."
Ven didn't look at her. However, he did return a slight hand squeeze. A small grin teased the corner of his lips when he had a certain thought.
"You know that you're a Princess of Heart, don't you?" he asked. "You know someone is looking for you."
"Many things are revealed in the dark. Pure light is one of them."
Ven's first, and only reaction, was a bitter smirk.
On the way back home, Snow White had suggested they visit the Third District. She was quite fond of its fountain and wanted to show it to Ven while he was still there. And to her credit, it was beautiful. The only thing that interrupted it were the Heartless.
Ven immediately found it odd that they were choosing just now to attack. Giving Snow White the instruction to find somewhere safe was a mistake. Almost immediately after she got out of eye range, the princess let out a surprised shout. Ven couldn't help her right away- there were just enough Heartless to almost overwhelm him. By the time he was able to get where Snow White had shouted, it was far too late.
Knowing that what Snow White had said was true, Ventus slumped against a brick wall. Burying his face in his hands, the knight moaned, “Those dwarves are going to kill me.”
. . .
When they got back to court, Sabrina was quick to realize Alice was no longer there. The curtain was still closed on the cage, preventing anyone from seeing for sure, but in her heart she could feel that loss of light. Emitting a growl, Sabrina then went back into the depths of Wonderland in search of Alice. Each empty place only soured her mood further.
‘Here’s hoping Ven had better luck than this. Stupid world…’
“Persistent, are you?" a new voice piped up, stopping Sabrina dead in her tracks. "Much like the dark moon, endlessly chasing the bright sun.”
Sabrina immediately swung her head upward. Sitting on a tree branch was the Cheshire Cat, smiling down at her with nothing to hide.
"What do you know?" she snapped at him.
"Hmmm... Perhaps not much." it admitted. "Or perhaps plenty much. The light you seek is no longer bright in this world. Perhaps in another, or some other, or another yet still. It’s so hard to tell these days.”
Sabrina crossed her arms in front of her. Just when she thought this world couldn't get anymore uncomfortable, here came a cat that spoke in riddles and a permanent grin. There was one thing she could understand, though.
"Alice is gone? Truly?"
"As sure as the dodo can lead the caucus race."
She couldn't help it, but Sabrina growled.
“Your dim sights should instead focus on a different light." the Cheshire Cat suggested. "One who may already be falling into the darkness. Do hurry though, and remember- you can travel to a world for a light, instead of looking straight at it.”
It took her a moment to stew over the words, and when she realized what the cat was saying, she nearly cursed. Sabrina immediately took to the Lanes Between while the Cheshire Cat watched her leave.
"What a peculiar day," it mused, "When darkness reaches for darkness."
And with that, the cat simply faded from existence, as if it had never been there to begin with.

In my K.H. rewrite timeline, all the children have at least 1 mentor.
Vanitas' are Xehanort (who is emotionally & physically abusive) and Cloud (who starts out aloof & not even meaning to be zir mentor, but ends up giving zem advice often by accident then later on purpose teaches various skills to Vanitas).
Ven's are Xehanort (who is emotionally & physically abusive), Eraqus (who is genuinely nice despite his strict nature, but their last interaction is him trying to murder Ventus for the greater good without even trying to think of an alternative solution), and Leon (who initially reminds Ven of Eraqus, which makes their platonic friendship toxic since the lack of communication between Ven & Leon causes both to severely misinterpret what's going on; but they learn to talk properly to each other thus causing them to become close and Ven to slowly regain his trust in adults). (Terra and Aqua are more not-biological-nor-legally-adoptive older siblings to Ven than being his mentors.)
Roxas' are Axel/Lea (their not-biological-nor-legally-adoptive-siblinghood starts out casual then becomes toxic, but they work through their issues with some help; especially since Lea/Axel was the one causing all the toxicity and had learned the hard way that many of his decisions in regards to Roxas & Xion have been mean at best & cruel at worst) and Merlin (who helps Roxas study and provides a safe space to work through his various emotions).
Shion/Xion's are Axel/Lea (coz Lea/Axel is in Castle Oblivion when Shion first starts gaining personhood through Sora's lost memories, it takes a few weeks after his mission for him to warm up to her; then their not-biological-nor-legally-adoptive siblinghood gets toxic before it eventually improves), Saïx/Isa (starts out toxic, stays that way for many months whilst his firm belief that she's solely a puppet with no thoughts nor feelings bit by bit gets disproven, and slowly improves when an incident forces him to accept that she's actually a person then he bit by bit starts to platonically love her as a daughter or little sister when continuing to teach her things), and Barret (who helps Shion find her individuality and provides a safe space for her to talk through how she feels 'bout everything that happened in her short life so far plus he very much holds Lea/Axel and Saïx/Isa accountable for their treatment of the children).
Sora's are Donald & Goofy (who initially see her solely as a means to an end, but quickly grow to sincerely care 'bout Sora then – aside from 1 incident where they abandon Sora in favour of Riku who got 1 of the Keyblades from the enbe thus Goofy & Donald obeyed Mickey's order to stick by the Keyblade-wielder, but less than half an hour later they chose Sora over their mission – stick by her no matter what Mickey or anyone else says; they learn through Aerith shouting at them that their student's/not-biological-nor-legally-adopted child's mental health has taken a fast nosedive & that their meant-to-be-harmless teasing is why, so they apologise to Sora & make amends to the kid who they've been helping keep up with school ever since the Trinity Trio formed in Traverse Town), and Aerith (who platonically bonds with Sora coz he has an affinity for healing magic same as Aerith does then later she's who he confides in 'bout everything he has gone through on her adventures and Aerith helps Sora become less insecure in the enbe's abilities & skills).
Naminé's are Ienzo/Zexion (who starts out manipulative, but redeems themself after she changes from a Nobody into a Somebody since regaining his Heart awakens his conscience), Demyx/Myde (who aids Naminé in learning to simply relax & to take care of themself instead of being filled by self-hatred), and Tifa (who helps them become a badass fighter and is a confidant who they tells every insecurity & issue to then eventually Naminé tells her 'bout the emotional abuse from Marluxia/Lauriam and the emotional & physical & magical abuse from Relena/Elrena/Larxene, plus Tifa realises thanks to Naminé how hurtful secrets from people who the secrets are 'bout can be thus she grows as a person).
Kairi's are Minnie (who teaches Kairi music magic and helps her learn how to use her pure Light instead of throwing herself – and Selphie, who literally jumped through the Corridor of Light when Kairi semi-accidentally created it & fell into it – into unfamiliar places with no clue what she's doing plus Minnie assigns Pluto to guard the girls and gives them a Star Shard to travel with since it's not safe for non-Guardians of Heart to use Corridors of Light or Corridors of Darkness) and Aqua (who she specifically requests to be her mentor, as Kairi is the only one who explicitly feels the need to find someone to teach her new skills; Aqua quickly becomes a not-biological-nor-legally-adoptive big sister to Kairi who she helps regain self-confidence and improve as a fighter).
Selphie's is Daisy (who gladly teaches her how to use hand-to-hand combat whilst Kairi is busy with Minnie's lessons on music magic & intentionally using Light and she's the one who Selphie talks through with all the wild stuff that's been going on, their conversations helping the girl make sense of everything).
Riku's are Maleficent (who manipulates him), Xehanort's Heartless/Ansem the Seeker of Darkness (who manipulates him then in Castle Oblivion literally controls Riku's body for a short time twice thus taking away his autonomy before Riku finally kills the human-looking Heartless), Terra (whose Heart is freed from the Guardian Heartless form it was stuck in when Riku defeats Ansem, as the boy used his ability to communicate with Heartless therefore finding out Guardian was Ansem's victim just as much as he was plus Kairi purifying Riku from the lingering taint of Ansem lets Terra to regain his Heart & properly communicate with Riku instead of staying as Guardian Heartless; they both learn from each other to be better people just as much as Riku learns new fighting skills from Terra), and Mickey (whose support is pivotal in Riku not being stuck as Ansem's victim forever).
Shiro/the Riku Replica's is Cid (who is a very grumpy man, but still good at teaching him various computer & aeroplane skills) and his wife Shera (who takes over handling the lessons whenever he has to go do something very important same as how he helps Shiro learn whilst she's busy plus both help the enbe find hir individuality).
Ephemer's is Ava (who in some ways is more a not-biological-nor-legally-adoptive older sister than a mentor, but does teach the enbe a lot 'bout various magic).
Skuld, Strelitzia, Olette, Pence, Hayner, James, Amber, Sofia, Lani, Kari, Ruby, Jade, Yufi, Yuna, Paine, Rikku, Tidus, and Wakka each have a mentor too. But this post is getting kinda long already, so maybe someday I'll write a Part 2 & a Part 3 covering theirs. Plus some of the adults had their own mentors, so I might do a Part 4 for them.

Runaway Wind Chapter Twenty Seven
Tumblr media
<- Previous Chapter | Current Chapter | Next Chapter ->
When she first woke up, breakfast was the farthest thing from Naminé’s mind. All she could think about was trying to keep what she remembered fresh in her head. At least long enough for her to confirm what had happened was not just a coincidence. If she was right, it was a lead that Ven desperately needed. But as Yuffie reminded her of her headaches, she almost thought she would barely have any appetite until she had a chance to unpack what had happened to her. Strangely enough, the meal helped to bring things into focus and allowed her to regain energy sleep had sapped from her.
So when Merlin came over to sit beside them as they finished their meal in the great hall, Naminé was much less worried than before.  “Now, before you went to bed, you said you were seeing things you didn’t know about.”
“Right. Things Sora hasn’t ever seen.” She closed her eyes and tried to recall some of the images. Bring them into focus and remember. And as she did, they all seemed to be in some of the same places. Places she knew. “I see...the Enchanted Dominion and Dwarf Woodlands.”
“What about people?”
At Yuffie’s question, Naminé reached for the notepad she kept at her side. “Right. Let me try to sketch.” She didn’t want to hold everyone up, so something quick would have to do for now. The vision became more vivid and distinct, and as it did she reached for her pen and began the outline of one of the more clear figures that she could pick out.
While she was focusing, she couldn’t quite see everyone’s reaction. But when Ven spoke, she could pick up on the hope in his voice, “Hey, I think that’s—.”
“Let her finish.” Although Yuffie cut him off, Naminé could understand where Ven was coming from. Even without any color she knew exactly who it was that she had been seeing in her visions and dreams.
“That’s Aqua. It has to be Aqua!” And so did Ven as she looked up to see him alight with recognition. “That’s right! I know she came to Enchanted Dominion too!”
“Seeing her might be related to the two of you making contact with her dreams.” Merlin nodded as he looked over the sketch.
“That’s not all.” Naminé continued as she searched a bit farther. And once again, the figure was familiar. “Their clothes are totally different. But…I think I recognize them.” Rather than the dark cloak she had known, she sketched a more intricate outfit. Straps across the chest, and a pauldron on his shoulder. But the face was easy to recognize. “I think it’s Erxart. Or...”
“Terra.” She looked to see Ven nod in grim recognition beside her. “That’s what he wore, and I remember hearing he was in the Dwarf Woodlands.”
Yuffie got up and began to pace. “So maybe you’re seeing some of Ven’s past now?”
Naminé sighed and set her notepad and crayons aside. “I don’t know. It’s all so jumbled and I make anything clearer.” More than that though, why? What was causing her to see things and people related to Ven and places he had been? During her imprisonment she wondered why she was given power over memories. Now she was beginning to ask what her power even was in the first place.
Merlin began to stroke his beard as he contemplated everything. He looked out the open window and asked, “Tell me, can you still see Sora’s memories?”
Naminé closed her eyes once again as she tried to follow that familiar chain. But strangely enough, as she followed it, some of those links seemed to be slipping away. “It’s a bit difficult. I can see some of the more important memories, like his journey with Donald and Goofy. But the farther I go back, the harder it is for me to see those memories.”
Yuffie stopped before turning to Naminé with a raised eyebrow. “Maybe because Sora doesn’t remember those memories himself.“ She shrugged and shook her head “Let’s face it, I don’t think we remember every little thing we did as kids.”
“True. There is that factor to consider.” Merlin nodded in agreement. “Well, how are you feeling now?”
Ventus gently rested a hand on her shoulder. “Good enough to come with us? Or did you want to stay here?”
Naminé put her own hand on his and smiled as she got to her feet. “I think I’ll be fine. Thanks, Ven.” Ever since they met he’d been helping her every step of the way. Not only finding a path for freedom, but also helping her to realize a strength she could use to help others. To help him. And heart or not, seeing Ven smile helped lift Naminé’s spirits too.
Though...were his cheeks usually so pink?
Merlin chuckled as he got to his feet and re-adjusted his hat. “Well, if you’re feeling fine enough to travel, feel free. If anything changes let me know.” He began to walk towards the hall exit leading to where they had set down the Gummi ship.“For now there is the matter of the Heartless around the Castle of Dreams. Specifically a very powerful one on the edge of town.”
Yuffie stretched as she walked alongside him with Naminé. “So we’ve got to play exterminator so Maleficent doesn’t get her hands on it.” She paused and narrowed her eyes. “Or maybe it was the other guy. Big cat in a red and purple suit. Not that smart.”
“Pete.” Naminé recalled him from their visit before. And then realized something else that happened when she first saw Maleficent's henchmen. “Ven, you said you...knew him?”
She stopped, trying to see where an absent Ventus had gone off to. Fortunately, he wasn’t that far, just where they had sat down in the hall to talk. But she saw him going over her notepad, crayon in hand. She must have left it there in the moment. He looked up and jogged over with Naminé’s drawings. “Oh, sorry, I was just thinking, Larxene said Terra and Xemnas were almost alike except for the hair and eyes.” He flipped the notepad over to show the three of them.I’m just trying to draw it to see what he looks like.”
“Or at least get an idea.” Yuffie leaned in as he inspected the now gray hair and yellow eyes before eventually groaning. “Doesn’t ring a bell for me though. Do you know them Naminé?”
Naminé looked down at the picture.
“Naminé?”
Then blinked as she saw someone else.
“Regarding the experiment...”
“Opportunistic fool.”
“Won’t be needing this anymore...”
“Hello again, friend.”
“Lead me into everlasting darkness!”
Once again, there was that pain. And images she could hardly put together. All but the last. The thread tying them together. The person that Ven’s drawing resembled uncannily.
“Naminé? Are you sure you’re okay?” Ven was already at her side, concern clear in his eyes.
She looked back down to the altered picture. “When you color him in like that he looks like Ansem.”
This bit of news caused Yuffie to drop her chipper demeanor and take a step back. “Wait. The old king around here that went nuts and turned himself into a heartless? But how would you knoooohhhh right. Sora’ memories.”
Naminé nodded as Ven handed the sketchbook back to her hands. “It’s not something I can forget seeing. He was the leader of the heartless until Sora beat him.”
Ven frowned as he crossed his arms in silence. “Someone strong like that would have a Nobody, right?”
And at that the four of them were quiet. The answer was clear enough that words were unneeded. Xemnas could only be the Nobody of Ansem.
Still, Ven hardly seemed satisfied by what he learned. “But how do they know me? I never met Ansem when I came here. It’s like the closer we get to finding answers, the more we just run into bigger questions.”
Merlin nodded grimly. “But the more questions we know, the better we know where to look. I’ll let the rest know so they can look over some of his journals. There must be something here that can explain your connection.” He began to hurry back towards the main castle “For you three, time is of the essence. Letting the heartless roam free will just add to our problems.”
Ven sighed and began to walk towards the door. “Right, don’t want another invasion from Maleficent while we’re busy.”
Yuffie jogged up and tried to smile with some confidence. “Hey, we’ve got this covered. I bet once we’re done, they’ll have that annex opened up and we can take a look around.”
“And maybe while we’re there, we can talk to the Fairy Godmother and find out what’s going on with our dreams.” Naminé walked up beside Ven as he looked at her. “Find a way to help Aqua.”
“Yeah. Yeah, you’re right.” Turning back to them, Ven gave a more confident grin. “Let’s go!” And with that they resumed heading back to the gummi ship. If they didn’t take care of this now, then that just left more time for Maleficent and Xemnas to continue their plans.

In the room where nothing gathered, three were seated.  The three knew each other, as in a sense they were one and the same. Saïx folded his hands together as he began the discussion. “Roxas’ progress under proper tutelage is astounding. Already he has surpassed reports of Sora’s power.”
Xigbar waved him off with a narrowed eye. “Though keep in mind, those last reports were a month ago. And since resetting Sora got taken off the table, I wouldn’t be surprised if that kid learned a few new tricks too.” He couldn’t help a scowl as he asked, “The real question is how long we’re going to keep his teacher.”
Xemnas nodded as he calmly listened to Xigbar’s complaint. “Indeed. Though he is loyal to the Organization for now, Exart’s power might become a liability if he becomes convinced to turn against us.” A smile crept across his face. “Perhaps we should put that loyalty to the test.”
Saïx smiled as he heard the request. “I believe I can think of a method to ascertain his ultimate loyalty.”
“Good to hear you’re so on top of things.” Xigbar crossed his arms as faked cheer gave way to annoyance. “Not like how we’re taking our time with Sora.”
Xemnas’ grip tightened ever so slightly as he sat on the highest throne. “He is a unique case. He must be...educated.”
Xigbar scoffed and waved hand from his seat. “Are you sure you want to keep this up? Why not wipe them out once our Kingdom Hearts is ready to make the rest of our seekers and just take the princesses? We make the χ-Blade with them, get the real deal, problem solved.” Crossing his arms as he stated the simple solution, Xigbar scowled, “Are you really that desperate to prove—?”
“There is nothing they can do to stop us.” Xemnas interrupted Xigbar while Saïx listened on. “Whatever method we pursue to achieve victory matters little. The Kingdom Hearts above us grows ever faster day by day, and its power shall be the answer to claiming the true χ-Blade.” The three looked up, where outside their castle the heart shaped moon had already regown. “When we are ready, they will all know true power.”
