Everyone asks whether Fire-typed pokémon can swim in lava, and we mostly agree yes. But can they drink lava?

For both, but especially the latter, I think it depends on the Pokemon! IMO, all Fire-type Pokemon do not have equal fire-proofing and heat resistance. 

For example, could Groudon drink lava? Certainly.

Magcargo, Heatran, or Camerupt? For sure!

But Vulpix, Talonflame, or Pyroar? Ehh, probably not?

So I think it's a case-by-case basis. I’m curious where you fall in this debate!

you mention the super mario series semi frequently and have itin your username so I thought of all people I'd ask you. what would you think if nintendo tried to make an actual definitive canon for mario, like as in a timeline and a rough map of all the locations in the series? do you think it would recontextualise the older games in a newer way, or would it just ruin what once was a series of semi connected early games, or just something else entirely?

I think that would be a bad idea for three main reasons.

first, the mario franchise is not story-driven, and creating a canon timeline would require forcing an overarching narrative onto a set of games with one-sentence plots. and for the games that do have actual stories, those narratives tend to be so self-contained that it really does not matter at all when they happen relative to anything else. putting them in "an order" wouldn't have any real implications beyond giving fans opportunities to look for contradictions.

second, the mario universe is fantastical and malleable, with new Worlds to explore being introduced in every (good) game. something like a world map would put a fence around that, encouraging new games to stick to previously established settings and ideas. in a franchise that's often infamous for playing things overly safe and being averse to new ideas, that's probably the last thing it needs.

third, nintendo would not do a good job tying all the games together. many games fans care about (like the RPGs) would almost certainly be overlooked, dismissing them as "non-canon". locations of mario kart tracks now have official positions on the Mushroom World Map, but only tracks that are included in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game for the Nintendo Switch. super mario land is carelessly placed on the timeline between mario 3 and world without any thought given to what it implies about mario's relationships to peach and/or daisy, and mario land 2 is just completely ignored.

so while I guess I can see the appeal of fleshing out the lore a little bit, I would not trust nintendo to do anything good or interesting with the idea, and realistically it would cause The Thing That Happened to Paper Mario to bleed more into the rest of the franchise.

I think I would have to say Sophie Hatter, from Howl's Moving Castle. (Books or movie)

Because you are courageous and clever, and you create your own rules for life. Sophie is a really fun character who doesn't take crap from anyone, and she creates her own magic just by being herself. She loves a lot of people, she makes sure they're safe, and she makes sure her opinions are heard. She stands by what she believes in, and she gets things done!

This is something I wonder and I’d like to hear your opinions. How much do you think the other survivors know about Makoto’s PTSD? Obviously at least a couple probably figure he has it, but do you think it’s something he would find himself able to open up about, or would he feel he has to still be the ultimate hope for what little remains of his class and never be able to stop caring about that enough to care for himself? I like the idea of him actually opening up and being able to lean on the others (somewhat like we see him do with Kyoko when she encourages him shortly before her “death” in the dr3 kg) but I’d like to hear what you think

i think the others know about it. probably have some of it themselves, but they also know that they're not going to get makoto to get help for it.

i think makoto is not only, NOT going to talk about it. he's going to pretend that he's perfectly fine. he has to be someone others can lean on. he has to be that unstoppable symbol of hope. how can he be that with so much weakness?

obviously i like rhe idea of makoto learning to grow and depend on others, but i don't think it'd be an easy journey. he trusts his friends, and i have no doubt he would help them if they were suffering from ptsd, but he can't allow himself to let them see him as weak. because that means he is weak, and that won't stand

the only person i can see getting through to him is komaru. i think she knows her brother more than anyone, and would absolutely be able to understand his fear of being seen as less than.

makoto trusts the survivors, but being able to put something as delicate as this in their hands is something that would take a lot of work. and not something i see makoto being able to do right off the bat.

how do you clone a fey? that's trick question; and fey love those!

@the-navistar-carol (<333) brought up a good point while I was talking about my changeling danny au with her -- Dani! How would she exist in this au? Danny's a changeling - a fae. How would Dani, a clone of him, be created? How do you make a fey? Not through any means that Vlad is doing; you can't make a fey through unnatural means, considering the Fair Folk are nature. And Vlad's not a fey himself -- he's a halfa, even if he could make a fey, it's not in his best interest too. He's a powerful ghost, but even the weakest fae can overpower the strongest ghost. He won't want a clone of Daniel to be more powerful than him.

(In a three tier hierarchy it goes Ancients -> Fae/Mythos -> Ghosts. They all live in the Infinite Realms, but on different Planes. The fae live above the Ghost Zone in the Fey Wild, while the Mythos live beside the Wilds or down in the ghost zone depending on where they are. Places like the Frozone, the Athens Acropolis, and other such large islands climb throughout all three Planes.)

(While Ghosts can travel into the Fey Wild, its generally advised against as the ectoplasm tends to manifest differently there due to close contact magic. It can make it rather disorientating for a ghost, and as human spirits, the Fae living there would jump them faster than they could blink. So unless you're willing to play mind games with 'steal thy name eat thy face' fae, most ghosts keep out of the way of the Wilds. Fey can travel down into the Ghost Zone, they just don't bother.)

That's of course, not taking into account if Vlad even knows Danny's a fae himself. Vlad doesn't ring me as someone who really cares much about ghost culture or the going ons of the GZ. He might be aware that fae exist, but the moment he realizes he can't use them for personal gain he just doesn't bother with them. The risk is greater than the reward, and he'd rather not get eaten. But lets assume he's aware by now that Danny is fey, and has to take that into account while cloning him.

So, how does Dani exist? Good question! Honestly; i'm not sure. She might not exist at all, or if she does, she's more halfa than fey. Vlad would need a lot of human dna and ectoplasm to balance out all that fae magic. He manages to steal DNA from Jack and Maddie to do it, and since Jack's fey ancestry is very dormant its much easier to use alongside Danny's DNA.

In turn, it results in a little girl whose more human-ghost hybrid than clone. With that little extra boost in fey magic making her not a fey, but still relatively powerful. Dani is less of a clone and more of a lab-grown little sister. It's a rather tedious, complex process that has Vlad tearing his hair out trying to figure out. But he does eventually figure it out.
