Okay, so Archives of Nethys has updated to have some material from PF2e’s Remaster. And I like the new Wizard Arcane Schools? They’re actually really exciting to me.
Moving away from D&D’s schools of magic, abjuration, necromancy, etc, spells don’t have a school anymore, though studying an arcane school will let you learn certain spells. But these schools are more … I don’t want to say ‘practical’, but they do kind of feel like … magic you study towards a purpose? It’s not about what the spells are, the arbitrary categories they’re deemed to fit into, it’s about the kind of things you want your magic to do. Your school is a collection of magic you’ve studied towards a goal. I’m not sure how to phrase this, but I like the ethos. And. There’s just a couple of particular schools that excite me just for existing.
Particularly, I’m just going to be honest here, the School of Civic Wizardry. Is it a good subclass? I have no clue. But I love that it’s a thing that exists. If you want to study magic to build things, to transport things, if you want to be an architect arcane, honey baby, have we the school for you! If you became a wizard to help build and maintain cities, there’s now a school for that. That just makes me happy.
I also enjoy the School of Ars Grammatica. It’s the school of runes and wards, the magic of words, the underpinning geometries of magic. Wards are an idea in fantasy that have always fascinated me, and you also can’t go wrong with the magic of communication.
Then there’s the School of the Boundary, for when you want to get spooky. This is the school of summoning, seeing, traversing. Trespass and transgress. I really really really like the boundary, the liminal, as a theme. People may have noticed. So, yes. Excellent school. Do enjoy it.
And then, of course, there’s the School of Mentalism. The magics of the mind. I just really like illusions?
This is not to knock the schools of Battle Magic, Protean Form or Unified Magical Theory, of course. I’m just. Likely gonna pick a few of the others first.
I do also love that the entries for each give examples of actual schools, as in places in the setting, where you might have learned particular Arcane Schools. Embedding your mechanics in your setting, and vice versa, is always a thing I enjoy.
But yes. I really just want a wizard construction worker now? An architect arcane. None of this arty farty ‘what is the meaning of magic’ stuff, magic is so you can build a building without having to move rocks with your body like an idiot. Okay? Magic exists so we can make things easier. There’s no need to get complicated and silly about it.
It’d be funny to have a party that’s a small wizard construction/building inspection firm? You have your Civic Wizard who does the building, your Ars Grammatica Wizard who does the warding and puts the magical phones in, and then you have the black sheep, the Boundary Wizard, who does building inspections and tells people whether their shit’s haunted or if they just built too close to the sewer and the ventilation in this end of the city isn’t the best.
I’m intrigued, let’s say. I like where this is going. And yes, I’m gonna make a dwarven wizard in a hard hat and sturdy boots. Naturally. Heh.

🎶✨when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, and publish. then, send this ask/tag 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) ✨🎶
Was tagged by @hazely-sims. Thank you, I feel the loveeee 🥰
I always have my music playlist in a crazy shuffle mode, and as it goes on I may skip one or more songs depending on my mood. So I'm listing the ones that I *almost* never skip when it comes.
*drumroll please*
I wasn't even born yet when this song was popular, but thanks to the huge age gap with my siblings I found myself growing fond of music from this decade. Feels like a nostalgia that you never had..
Yes, another song from the 80's. Though I only discovered it just two years ago, when I was playing GTA: Vice City Stories that features Phil Collins himself and this song. Then it just got stuck in my head days after, even memorizing the drum pattern at the near end of the song lol.
I first discovered Angela Aki when she sang a cover of FFVIII's 'Eyes on Me' and quickly fell in love with her. Then came this song and I loved her even more. I don't even have to translate the lyrics to know this is a great song.
The short version itself is already a masterpiece, but boy the additional five minutes even makes it ten times (pun intended) greater! Fun fact: I always use this song as a ten minute timer of everything.
Of all the story songs Taylor Swift has ever written, this one takes the number one spot for me. I really like the revenge-murder theme in it. Kinda unusual of T.S., but it worked.
So. Here it is. The hardest part of this kinda post...tagging someone hehehe. But yeah I'm gonna do it..
tagging these ten to appreciate the nice comments they've made throughout my posts..
@bast-sims @puffkins2000 @bioniczombie @parystrange @joshttew @curmudgeonness @nornities @fluttereyes-ts3-blog @kevinvoncrastenburg @misspats3 @dinadine @ilvansims3
(wait I tagged more than ten, but anyway...)

I'm glad I don't at all feel FOMO. Like I couldn't give a shit. I want things when i want them, and I couldn't be happier. But I'm not immune to want. Like when I hear a game I'm interested in is gonna be next-gen exclusive, that bums me out.
Until I find out that I'm not missing out on anything lol.
The new MGS collection? The one that just came out for PS5 and such? Nothing THAT special. It's a port of MGS1. Whoopee. I already own two copies of MGS1 (one for PS1, one for PS3 via the Solid Snake collection). And the versions of MGS2 and 3? Just a strict port of the MGS HD collection that was on PS3/4. WAS being the operative word.
They did what Rockstar did when they released the awful "dEfInItIvE" versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, which was completely pull the original games from the PlayStation store! Scum! Too bad I already own those games! Idiots!
So as such, the MGS HD collection is no longer available on PS4. Sad. BUT, I already own MGS 2 and 3. I have two copies of 2 and one of three. So I'm not missing out on ANYTHING from them strictly porting those games to a console I don't want yet.
ALSO, there's no like quality of life improvements made at all, no changes made from the HD collection. You STILL cannot pause during cutscenes. Literally what's the point.
The only thing I'm missing out on is apparently there's a set of graphic novels, and like soundtracks and stuff like that on top of the games. Which sure is neat, I'm sure those are just available online too.
So I don't need to buy a PS5, I don't need to buy games I already own again for no real benefit, and FOMO doesn't work if you're not even missing out on anything :P
No but seriously I thought they were remastering MGS1, that would have been dope. They just ported it.

April! Continuing my little bonus challenge of meaningful numbers, this playlist is 4 hours and 0 minutes long (my 40th birthday was this month).
Being my birthday month, this playlist was all about indulging myself with some oft-played faves mixed with ancient nostalgia, while also threading through a little bit of self-discovery vibes? Existing at this age wasn't something I could really conceptualize when listening to 'Barracuda' for the first time, I was just getting by day-to-day.
Anyway! A lot of songs from my most beloved records and tapes growing up, but with all the things I've fallen in love with since (did you know I was finally able to learn who Dio was thanks to hearing it on a radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
That's not to say there are a bunch of new favourites in here; 'Damocles' by Medusa is sparkling new and absolutely slaps in a way that I wish I could send to young me who hadn't even heard rock as hard as 'Time of the Season' yet, but who would play harpsichord records loudly, paving the mental pathways for listening to Wendy Carlos' The Well-Tempered Synthesizer (deeply unavailable online). I will note that I'd heard rock before The Zombies, but I don't think the piano music to 'White Rabbit' is quite the same thing, really.
Related media to some of the songs:
If you like Stromae's 'Alors On Danse' then there's a Tiny Desk Concert for you with another mix of the song (it's at 8:03).
'ボクにインビテーション' (Boku ni Inbitēshon, "Invitation to Me") by JP is from Shirokuma Cafe, an anime worth hunting up (it's animals who work and visit a cafe! there are puns that can't be localised but they translate them well!).
'Violin Concerto in G Major, Op. 8, No. 2: I. Allegro' is from Chevalier, which is in theatres now and I look forward to seeing when I can watch it at home, here's a trailer. And here's the Tumblr post that hipped me to the movie coming out.
Anyway here's a link to April's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below.

Okay. So. Thinking a bit more about that Remastered PF2e Construction Wizard. Some spitballed ideas.
I do want to just fully commit to the construction thing. Is the wizard effective in combat? Possibly not, or not as much as they could be. I want to give them building spells as much as possible. For the skills I think we build around Arcana, Crafting and Society for our three raise-to-legendary ones. This is a city wizard, a construction wizard, their magic is used to make things.
They’re a dwarf. I’m sorry, they’re a wizard who uses the raw forces of magic to build cities, they have to be a fucking dwarf. That’s dwarfy. It just is. Heh. I feel like either an Anvil Dwarf (legacy) to double down on the crafting thing, or a Rock Dwarf, to double down on, well, the rock. The stones and the building. A couple of dwarven ancestry feats that I might want to pick up include Stonemason’s Eye, Dwarven Reinforcement (strengthen objects and structures), Stonewalker (can cast One With Stone, and builds on Stonemason’s Eye), and March the Mines (gain a burrow speed and take an ally along). Dwarves are so good for construction. I told you this was a dwarfy sort of wizard.
For the background, I wanted something with Engineering Lore. Interestingly, a LOT of backgrounds with that lore are tied to either Alkenstar specifically or clockwork/guns/machinery in general, which isn’t quite the vibe I’m going for. And Alkenstar, given the whole ‘unreliable magic’ thing, might possibly be the worst city for this dwarven wizard to be from. In general, backgrounds with engineering lore are all a bit more mechanical than civic engineering.
Somewhat funny, but one of the few Engineering Lore backgrounds that actually specifically mentions structural engineering is Saboteur, which is coming at it from somewhat the opposite side we’re hoping to. There’s also Thrill-Seeker, for an urban explorer who has engineering so they have a better idea what building’s best for flinging themselves off of. But Athletics and Combat Climber might not be the worst shout here, for a construction worker at heights, if we’re not feeling the classic Junk Collector, Mechanic or Tinker backgrounds.
And then … spells. I really, really want this wizard to JUST be a construction wizard. I want to load their spell list down with everything on from the arcane tradition that you could use to build shit. Or that would be handy on a construction site. It’s an odd urge, kind of building a character for a different game than the one actually being played, but there are lot of niche spells in PF2e that work really nicely for this hyper-specialised wizard over here.
Now. Archives of Nethys hasn’t updated their spells yet for the remaster, so I was picking and choosing inside Pathbuilder, which has also updated for the remaster. So I can’t really link to the spells I’m interested in, but I’m going to mention some of them anyway.
For cantrips, Bullhorn, Telekinetic Hand, and Approximate. If you’re a site foreman, you want to be loud if you need to be, you want an extra hand, and you want to be able to eyeball a pile of materials and get a rough number quickly.
For higher level spells, some ones that jump out are Gentle Landing (feather fall is really handy when building at height) and it’s grown up cousin Soft Landing (feather fall in an AOE, for when scaffolding collapses and you need to catch a bunch of people at once). Also potentially useful for building at height is Bracing Tendrils, which anchor you to the ground, or hopefully surface.
For preparing the ground, you’ve got Pave Ground, which flattens out difficult terrain, Burrow Ward, which solidifies the earth and pushes out burrowing creatures, and higher up we have Transmute Rock and Mud, which turns mud to stone and vice versa.
For actually building by raw magic, you have the ever useful Wall of Stone.
For moving stuff around your construction sites, obviously there’s Teleport at higher levels, but I’m also looking at Airlift, which lets you pick up everyone within 10ft and anything of 10 bulk or less that they’re carrying and fly them up to 60ft. I feel like that could be handy. There might also be a case for Rally Point, which only works for you until it’s heighted to 7th level, but lets you and later up to four other people teleport back to the chosen point once each within the spell’s duration. Might be handy.
A couple of other randomly useful bits of magic would be Cleanse Air, which could be very handy if you’re building underground, digging foundations, or installing anything that might produce contaminants if damaged. Both Safe Passage and Control Water, both on the Civic Wizard’s Curriculum spell list, would also be useful here. And, a slightly random finishing note, Magic Mailbox, which creates a magic link between two containers to allow them to pass contents back and forth, might not jump out on first blush, but could be quite useful on site when you think about it? General communication and divination spells, for site communication and monitoring, could also go in our toolkit.
It is … It’s just a pleasing thought experiment. Designing a PF2e wizard, not for combat or adventuring, but for civic construction work within a city. It’s not the game we’re actually playing, but there is a fair amount of useful stuff in the arcane spell list to make it work. Heh.
This is such a fun arcane school. Useful? Don’t know. But definitely fun.

For many fans, the official remasters of classic Grand Theft Auto titles, bundled under the banner of GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, fell short of expectations. However, passionate developers are taking matters into their own hands, offering their vision for a modern revival of the beloved GTA Vice City. This project, dubbed GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition, aims to be more than just a simple graphical upgrade. Instead, it seeks to breathe new life into the game by meticulously transferring content like missions, models, and characters from the original to the Rage engine, the same engine that powered GTA IV. The team behind Nextgen Edition isn't just about visuals; they're also committed to addressing gameplay elements and offering an overall enhanced experience. To showcase their progress and connect with the community, they regularly host live streams where they dive into the technical aspects of the project. One recent stream focused on the iconic mission "Messing with the Man," also known as "Mess," which players encounter early in the game working for biker gang leader Mitch Baker at The Greasy Chopper. In the original Vice City, this mission tasked protagonist Tommy Vercetti with causing chaos on the streets within a two-minute timeframe. Players achieved this by shooting at pedestrians and vehicles, gradually filling a "chaos meter." A Behind-the-Scenes Look at "Mess" in Nextgen Edition The Nextgen Edition team's livestream offered a fascinating glimpse into how they're approaching the "Mess" mission. Here are some key takeaways: Mission fidelity: They remain committed to preserving the core gameplay experience of the original mission while seamlessly integrating it into the new engine. This ensures that players familiar with Vice City will still recognize and enjoy the familiar chaos-inducing mayhem. Enhanced visuals: The Rage engine allows for significant visual upgrades compared to the original. The live stream showcased improved lighting, textures, and character models, bringing a level of detail unseen in the original Vice City. Interactive elements: The team is working to ensure that interactive elements like the "chaos meter" and mission triggers function smoothly within the new engine. Potential gameplay tweaks: While the core experience remains the same, the developers hinted at possible gameplay tweaks based on community feedback and their vision. This could include adjustments to difficulty, AI behavior, or even additional challenges within the mission. What the Future Holds for Nextgen Edition The live stream showcased the dedication and meticulousness of the Nextgen Edition team. Their approach goes beyond a simple graphical overhaul, aiming to deliver a truly enhanced and modernized experience for fans of the classic GTA title. While the project is still under development, these glimpses offer a promising outlook for the future. It's important to note that Nextgen Edition is a fan-made project and is not officially affiliated with Rockstar Games. However, its progress and the passion behind it have garnered significant attention and interest from the GTA community. FAQs about GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition Q: Is GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition officially sanctioned by Rockstar Games? A: No, Nextgen Edition is a fan-made project and independent of any official involvement from Rockstar Games. Q: When will Nextgen Edition be released? A: As an ongoing fan project, there is no confirmed release date for Nextgen Edition yet. The developers are transparent about their progress and frequently communicate with the community through live streams and online platforms. Q: How can I stay updated on the project's development? A: You can follow the Nextgen Edition team on various online platforms such as YouTube, social media, and dedicated forums. They regularly share updates, and behind-the-scenes insights, and engage with the community through these channels. Q: Is it legal to play Nextgen Edition if it's released? A: The legality surrounding fan-made projects can be complex and may vary depending on specific copyright and licensing laws. It's recommended to stay informed and consult legal advice if needed.

Elden Ring
I've been interested in From Software's "Soulsborne"-series of games for a long time, but it has taken me almost equally long to even dip my toe into them. I played through the first Dark Souls in 2018, and I quite liked it. When I saw the first gameplay trailer for Elden Ring in late 2021, it impressed and excited me enough that I decided I was going to play the game as soon as it released. And so I did.
Elden Ring, for me, is a phenomenal game that I loved all the way through. I love the feeling of exploration; it reminds me of Breath of the Wild in that way, despite being somewhat different games at the end of the day. I love the fucked up world, all the different places. I enjoyed the story (or the story bits I could gleam off of various item descriptions, NPCs, whatever else), however inscrutable it is in a true From Software fashion.
If there's something to criticize, it's the repetition of smaller dungeons and certain bosses, but these didn't diminish my enjoyment of the game.
Cave Story
This is one of those games I've seen floating about the internet for years, somewhat similar to Undertale in that regard; an indie game with a notably large following. Probably helped that the game released for FREE back in 2004, a fact that makes me wonder how I didn't come across it back then, when I was very much looking for "freeware" games.
Cave Story is a short but sweet metroidvania with fun and quirky characters and straightforward but satisfying gameplay. It's no wonder the game has such a following.
After achieving regular ending the first time around, I attempted true ending but fucked up halfway through. Luckily the game's short enough that I could just restart from the beginning, get back to where I was and continue on from there. The final gauntlet and the true final boss were very difficult but in the end I managed to get through.
Blood and Blood II: The Chosen
Blood has been on my need-to-play list for years. I remember trying and failing to get the game working in DOSBox around 15 years ago, when the game was still abandonware. Blood has since not only been re-released, there are three source ports, as well as Nightdive's enhanced version of the game which is the one I played.
I had fantastic time with Blood. I was somewhat confused by the difficulty early on, when you don't have a lot of weapons, and the weapons you get early on aren't particularly effective against the enemies that get thrown at you; Flaregun ignites enemies with a delay and some enemies need more than one flare to ignite, and poking with pitchfork takes a while as well. The game truly becomes fun once you get more weapons and understand how to deal with different enemy types.
Blood II on the other hand is a bit of a tragedy, having been rushed out to market before it was ready. To give the game some credit, I like the premise, and I think the designs of the characters and some enemies are pretty good actually. Shame about the rest, though.
It feels like luck of the draw whether or not an enemy takes damage when shot at, an understandably fatal flaw for a game about shooting enemies in the face. Another thing that's bullshit is how enemies are able to fire at you on the very millisecond they spot you. Not to mention how buggy the game is, but saying that an unfinished game is buggy is like saying water is wet...
It's a bit of a shame that Blood was so underappreciated back in its release, and how Blood II torpedoed the franchise right after. Blood deserved better...
Alundra
This game ended up in my radar due to Zelda comparisons I kept hearing about. Alundra is structured much like a typical Zelda-game; there's the overworld (with areas gated off either by story progression or item) and there's the dungeons. Where Alundra differs from Zelda is the number of dungeons, Alundra has quite a lot of them. Some are rather short, while others feel like they go on a little too long.
I enjoyed the game quite a bit, but where the game started to lose me was with platforming. Top-down 2D Zelda-games don't do much platforming for a reason, the perspective doesn't lend itself for gauging jump distances and it is sometimes incredibly difficult to discern how high a platform is. Unfortunately the occasional platforming bits become needlessly difficult towards the end of the game; one such instance in the final dungeon prompted me to seek aid from certain emulation tricks.
Alundra has very colorful and beautiful 2D art, the music is fantastic as well. The story is enjoyable and surprisingly dark.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition Comes To Netflix And Mobile Today
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition didn’t launch in the greatest state, but after months of fixes, the game has been deemed ready to launch on mobile devices. The remasters of the series’ defining trilogy are now available on iOS, Android, and Netflix.
Like all Netflix titles, subscribers have immediate access to the Definitive Edition, which consists of modernized remasters of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. On mobile, you can pick them up in the Trilogy bundle or purchase them individually.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition first launched for consoles and PCs in November of 2021, while the mobile version was originally planned to launch in early 2022. These improved versions of the 2000s-era classics feature high-resolution textures, advanced lighting/weather effects, and modernized controls (modeled after GTA V), among other bells and whistles. However, due to the player complaints stemming from the collection’s poor launch state, the mobile version was hit with a lengthy delay as Rockstar worked to improve the released versions.
In addition to the launch of The Trilogy, Grand Theft Auto VI was announced for a 2025 release. You can watch the game’s debut trailer here.
