Remus to me is full of chaos but he is also the antithesis of Roman with similar qualities but a total lack of self consciousness or bashfulness. He is freedom and he gives no shits.

Inspiration 1: Mad Madam Mim

I start with a disney character full of chaos and I am inspired by mad Madam Mim because she is wild and chaotic and i absolutely love how fun she is as a villain and the most important thing for me is that Remus is fun. He's bonkers and has terrible ideas but he's also harmless in terms of reality. He's like an annoying little brother that wants to show you the Weird Gunk he found in the trash.

Inspiration 2: Snidley Whiplash (or Dick Dastardly)

Remus to me is a guy who knows a lot of things and he's actually really clever but he wants to BE a villain like Snidley Whiplash or Dick Dastardly, including the moustache. He wants to tie people to train tracks because it's fun. His personality is "I found the dynamite and the roller skates! :D"

Inspiration 3: Wile E Coyote and looney tunes as a concept

If Remus is anything it's a creature that can be stabbed in the eye and come back fine. It's a person who can make acme-like contraptions that do not work and that's ok. He is, if nothing else, Wile E Coyote and he is having the time of his life. He should therefore have hair that is a littler wild and crazy and untamable like Wile E's tail.

Inspiration 3: Royal villains

We will look at Galavant and also OUaT again!

There's nothing quite as detailed in costume as evil royal villains. They always seem to be the most extravagant or at least have all the buckles and things and Remus has an outfit just the same. Like Roman I want his royalty to show with his clothes but unlike Roman I want Remus to look way less put together. More a culmination of his clothes he chooses to wear but only because he HAS to wear something so he's going to show skin.

Particularly though the one I associate with Remus is Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time.

Inspiration 4: Captain Hook / Pirate aesthetics

Roguish, half-opened shirt, details, dressed fancy, swashbuckling. Remus would make a great pirate because he has the swagger and charm of a drunken man sailing a boat with a pet giant octopus he calls Lil Pussy.

Inspiration 5: Kraken and hentai

He has an octopus on his belt and he deserves tentacles for a pirate feel but also for fuckin. Cause he's a raunchy bastard. Anything taboo is something he wants to think about.

Inspiration 7: Weapon Master

Remus likes to hit things with his mace and while Roman has his sword, I imagine Remus is an expert at weapons or at least likes to use them so even if I am going to dress him up nice I want a weapon nearby somewhere.

Things that are a must:

So many details, Remus will not leave your eyeballs alone. If you think Roman has details nope, Remus wants your eyes to bleed with them.

Remus should have longer hair than Roman, wilder bangs and wilder curls. Shorter hair is fine but a ponytail is even more fun. Like the tie holding it'll break at any moment.

Weapons galore, arm this baby at every opportunity. Likewise, scars are acceptable but it's ok if they disappear at random because chaos loves chaos.

If Remus has his main garb off he should be showing skin to the best of his abilities and his collar should drape down wider than normal because let that man be a slut.

Tentacles should be numerous when shown and they should have a mind of their own doing whatever they want.

If Roman wouldn't wear it, Remus would. If Roman wouldn't think it, Remus would, and if Roman would be disgusted, Remus would love it.

Remus should have annoying little brother vibes.

Any non-standard outfits should look like he cobbled them together with duct tape and chewing gum.

The Ozai, Ursa, & Ikem romance debacle…

I truly honestly hope that the Netflix adaptation doesn’t adapt The Search when it comes to Ozai and Ursa’s relationship. Which, thank Agni seems not to fully be the case. It seems that LA Ozai does care for Ursa and his family members, even Zuko. He show respect to Lu Ten and Iroh and even cried when burning Zuko. He even mentioned the “soft” mother Ursa when talking to Zuko and referenced her when saying “don’t talk to me about loss” Showing that he had feeling for her.

The Search is very poorly written and turn Ozai into a very piss-poor caricature of an evil abusive bad man for no good or compelling reason yet even fails to deliver on that interpretation of Ozai and Ursa’s complex and compelling relationship.

This song is basically the Urzai relationship in the ATLA comics!

If The Search wanted to turn Ozai into a compelling, vicious, dangerous, and cruel monstrous villain in Ursa’s and our own eyes. Then why didn’t Yang have Ozai kill Ikem when he THREATENED his father, Fire Lord’s Azulon life in defiance due to his love for Ursa? Yet, for some reason, he had Ozai spare Ikem’s life due to Ursa's “love” for Ozai which Ozai knows is a blatant lie and stupidly desperate!

The realistic and emotionally heart-wrenching scenario would be for Ozai to march towards Ikem, Ursa tries to stop Ozai, however Ozai scarred Ursa’s wrist by burning her via firebending and then backhanded her causing her lip to bleed. Then proceed to execute Ikem by immolation in front of Ursa’s very eyes. This very demented, sinister, vile, and cruel brutal punishment for DARING to raise his hand against Fire Lord Azulon, Fire Prince Ozai, and the Fire Sages wishes would had created a compelling narrative regarding Ursa having complete and justified loathing of her betroth Ozai.

It was extremely foolish, idiotic, unreasonable, and unrealistic to have a no-named peasant like Ikem, who is not a firebender, attack the royal carriage and guards no matter how brave and noble his affection and intentions were regarding the integrity of his childhood love. Fire Lord Azulon and Fire Prince Ozai probably should have immediately immolated Ikem and his familial relations due to his affront against the Fire Lord and his son. Trying to stand up against the authoritarian, oppressive, violent, and vicious absolute monarchical regime of Fire Lord Azulon and Fire Prince Ozai should have come with immense consequences just like the fire nation rebels in Episode 3: Omashu in NATLA.

Zuko mentions that Ozai and Ursa’s along with their family used to be happy, and we saw that in Zuko's flashbacks. Yang, just decided to make Ursa a victim because in his mind: URSA WOMAN, OZAI BAD MAN, SHE MUST BE HELD, HOSTAGE!!! While Ozai and Ursa arrange marriage does make sense and was confirmed by the creators. It doesn't mean that Ozai and Ursa relationship was ALWAYS BAD, or SHE WAS KIDNAPPED! Plus, the Urzai relationship is quite normal in the antiquity of Asian societies that the Fire Nation is based on aka Shogunates of Japan and Imperial Chinese Dynasties!!!

Personally, I am afraid that the ATLA comics are going to screw up the Fire Nation Royal Family Characterization and Dynamics along with making them one-dimensional especially Ozai and Azulon. They might legit have Azulon and Ozai be abusive and beat Ilah and Ursa. I'm so doomer blackpilled regarding ATLA comics considering the Serach. This is probably why the comic writers ignore making a comic Pre-Zuko Alone flashbacks.

Ozai's harshness and ruthless regarding Zuko has nothing to do with Ursa or Ikem forbidden love! Ozai wants Zuko and Azula to both prove themselves. Ozai doesn't favor Zuko or Azula. It is about which child will succeed Sozin, Azulon, and his legacy as future Fire Lord. In fact, Ozai doesn't want Zuko or Azula to think that they are the “favorite” child. He wants Azula and Zuko to improve through competition. Because of the “only the greatest of pressures can forge diamonds” & “steel sharpen steel” mentality. Ozai has the mentality of an imperialist warlord. Ozai isn't trying to be the world's most loving and caring father but rather continue and build upon a powerful and dominant legacy that his forefathers had created before him. He wants Zuko & Azula to be cold, ruthless, heartless, vicious, and brutal imperialistic warmongers like him (Ozai), his father (Azulon), and his grandfather (Sozin).

About her realizing she was raped, um. Excuse me? A lot of victims don't realize they were raped or abused until like, months or years later. I'm glad for the ones who instantly realized it, good for them. Given Persephone's personality and experience with the world, she wouldn't have known it was rape because she's not accustomed to dating and sexual culture. On top of that, she isn't really seen actually distressed when she remembers, oh, and lets not forget that she WAS FUCKING FINE WITH TOUCH AND PHYSICAL FLIRTING DAYS AFTER HER ASSAULT. Let me remind you that I have been through this thing myself, you do not just omg I was just assaulted! time to go let someone touch me! Nonono, you spend years jumping when people touch you, years of moving when someone tries to grab your shoulder, years of pushing someone's hand off your arm, years screaming when you get a hug. And then, maybe from flashbacks, maybe from googling things, you discover you were molested! And then it alllllll makes sense. I understand if she became hypersexual, cause same, but that usually doesn't set in until a good long while.

I also hate how Apollo is written, he should have stayed as a shitty ex boyfriend or whatever the fuck Rachel was gonna make him, he just comes across as a cartoonish villain than an abuser. The man just fucking rubs his hands together and fucking goes I'll get you next time my pretty! I fucking HATE his writing so goddamn much. I understand wanting to make him pushy, egotistical, and insecure, they're some of the hallmarks of the pushy nice guy she was going for. But when it comes to him being abusive, it's like watching a bad joke. Rapists don't usually, you know, CATCH FEELINGS FOR THEIR VICTIM (correct me if I'm wrong), unless it's to lure them back in to hurt them again. She made him so obviously evil it hurts, abusers don't usually act that way, they put on a pretty smile, act kind, and behind closed doors, act shitty. I respect 97-98 for getting that part right, but too many times, too many fucking times Rachel has gotten that wrong. I have dealt with this myself, my mother did this exact thing, she even put on the pretty smile for me so even I, somebody who knew he was being tormented, questioned whether or not I was being abused! We never see this with Persephone! We never see her getting gaslit with this, she never questions her reality! She knows everything that's going on for sure! I know what Rachel was aiming for, and she failed miserably!

God, on top of this, we never really get to see Persephone's PTSD unless the story fuckin says Apollo's here! She's never really fucking affected by her rape, we don't see her jump from touches, refuse sexual advanced from Hades, yeah, sure, we see her afraid of camera flashes, but that's about it!!!!!!!! She never really experiences the effects of s/a! I developed an ED and agoraphobia from my abuse! Where the fuck is that?! That would have been a lot more fucking interesting than the slop we fucking got!

I know I've missed some things, but I need to calm down before I pop a blood vessel. I might revisit this post when I'm less angry, I just needed to rant.

Magneto: A Villain playing Dressup or Reformed Tortured Soul?

This is going to be hard one for me because I don't want to be too negative about Magneto because I think in X-men 97 he isn't the villain, but upon rewatching the show I think this question is viable. I may be accused of being a Romy shipper and Charles apologist, but I'm not really. I like Magneto in the show and he says some of the best lines in the show. But sometimes he says and does things that are kind of assholey am I right?

To start off with, the way that he introduces himself and announces that he's the heir to Xavier's mansion and the X-men. Did he really have to barge into Xavier's office and confront the team as they were bonding together playing basketball? He is so smug in that scene which is something I like about Magneto, his Alpha male strength and directness. It's hot and works when I'm writing Magneto fan fiction, but it is a tad presumptuous. His first reactions from everyone on the team is anger and suspicion and then he wonders why he's not getting a warm reception. He could have been normal and called or rang the doorbell or something, but it wouldn't have been as dramatic or as Magneto to come barging in.

The way that he says My X-men at the end of episode 1 is kind of smug and sinister is not? Maybe it's just the writers wanting tension out of that moment and having the readers shocked by Magneto, a known X-enemy inheriting everything, because at that moment we don't know if Magneto is going to be a good leader or not.

Then we see Magneto in action and he's playing the good guy. He saves a child from a busted ride and the Morlocks from the Friends of Humanity. It is shocking to the X-men but also shocking to humankind because of Magneto's past crimes. He enters leading the X-men tamping down his evil past and his more destructive methods of getting back at anti-mutant groups, but he is still Magneto with all his arrogance and his confidence and his strength of belief in himself.

Something that I actually love is the line that he toes the line between trying to be a good X-man and his feelings about humanity. He has seen so much that he is formed by those traumas and pain which cannot be so easily let go of. When he talks of not harming the Friends of Humanity members, the sneer when he says "sapiens" is pure gold. This Magneto is a tempered Magneto and we have to appreciate how far he's come. If it wasn't for his love of Charles Xavier he would be 1000 times worse.

It could be argued that other people might have made better leaders of the X-men, but for this season's storyline having Magneto play the leader was brilliant. He was just enough of an asshole to make the whole thing interesting and made the twist at the end more believable because he never really lost himself completely. You saw moments of him being potentially selfish, arrogant, cruel throughout the season which made him an interesting, complex character.

"My intentions here was not to cause drama or discord." Lol! Says the man in the cape and big M on his costume and the one who barged into the mansion without notice. Yeah, sure, Jan. He yielded to the UN, but not until after he proves how powerful he could be. A note to point out his that Wolverine talks about people being upset over all the things Magneto has done and "can't say I blame them" for being upset and I take this seriously. So currently he's trying to reform, but in this universe and timeline, Magneto has done some awful things.

The trial scene is really amazing. There are some great lines in it. The speech is probably the most compelling reason to want to trust Magneto. He is a great public speaker and he speaks of his past, how the oppressed become oppressors and that loving or being different will cause you to be punished. He is speaking Xavier's words and attempting to walk his past, but he must also acknowledge his past and the consequences of them. This is where I get confused or conflicted as I don't know if Magneto went too far or just enough or is justified or crazy. I don't know and I don't think it's something that the writers even know- like that is the crux of the show itself.

His sardonic wit is the best! "Oh to play by the rules and still they come for you." Yes. It's all going sideways and Magneto is not panicked in the least. He may be a lot of things, but dumb is not one of them. He saw this all coming and knew it was a matter of time that the extremists broke through and the judges would be deemed traitors of the race. It's like a part of him wanted things to get extreme, so the X-men would get to be on his side and see that humanity is not to be trusted and making nice doesn't work.

When asks if this is the high roads destination and essentially kidnaps all the judges, viewers are justified in thinking he might have snapped and gone back to his evil ways. We are surprised to see that he is walking Xavier's path and applaud him for that. He eventually lets the people go and asks them to not let him let them down and that's so poignant because we see just in episode 2 what Magneto is capable of and what he could do if he wasn't walking Xavier's path.

Magneto did a pretty good job of leading the team from episode 3 to 5, he is concerned about Jean, Scott, and Nathan and coordinates the team. He fights clone Jean or Madelyn and she taunts him with the line about a villain playing dress up as a hero. I think that line is so apt with Magneto because I think that his character arc is at the heart of the storyline. I wrote once saying that his relationship with Xavier was the thesis of the story and I also believe that Magneto's belief of Xavier's ideals and his own is also a pivotal part of the story. Madelyn had the power to delve into the psyche of each mutant and find their weak spots, so it proves here that Erik is self conscious of seeming to play the hero and most likely doubts his own commitment to Xavier's cause.

Then we go to Genosha in episode 5, where Magneto is king, literally. There are posters and statues of him everywhere and this all was his dream. Magneto is a savvy politician and understands making grand speeches or doing publicity stunts. Even other mutants at Genosha understand that he is the handsome face of Mutant kind and especially after joining the X-men and following moderation is liked by moderate mutants as well as humans. Even when he speaks to the group, he acknowledges that this was all Charles' dream and he didn't believe that it would happen. He is asked to be king and then he asks Rogue to be his queen. Episode 5, I think is tragically the peak of when Erik is believing Xavier's dream and thinking that peace is possible and happiness is possible for him as well. He is letting down his guard, accepting the King position, declaring his love for Rogue, trying to walk Xavier's path, be a good X-man, and etc. We know what happens next tragically however.

Everything he believed gets snatched and beaten out of him in Genosha. He tried to walk Xavier's path and it did not work out for him. He was already scarred, but this time was too much. He was kidnapped, tortured, and saw many deaths. He was already toeing the line before and felt justified in a way for committing crimes and atrocities and Genosha set him back to that way of thinking.

When we see him later, trying to persuade X-men to join him, EMPing the planet, attacking members of the X-men trying to stop him, he is traumatized and reacting poorly to Genosha. I don't justify his behavior, but I understand it. This is an Omega level mutant that has a track history of hurting humans for hurting mutants, so when a massacre hits it is not surprising that the mutant in question flexes his powers and gets angry.

What I don't know and am still on the fence about is how dedicated he truly was to Xavier's cause. Was he really a believer and dedicated to being a X-man or did it just take one incident for him to return to his ways? Also, how far is too far? Who is allowed to seek revenge or retribution? And to what extent? It is these questions that I think are so fascinating and I'm glad I don't know. These questions about Magneto are what made the show so interesting and complex and wants to make me see Season 2.

anon - i'm not a meta writer and feel like others can more succinctly put into words why the ending falls flat and the narrative feels exceptionally grim and that nothing of significance truly happened in the end

but to me, i say at 1 am on my birthday when i would like to feel joy now:

the entire narrative of bnha from the beginning was about who was worth saving. their humanity. that people aren't born villains. that society is flawed. that the hero system is flawed. that the justice system is flawed.

and yet? NOTHING CHANGED. everything is EXACTLY the same now as it was in the beginning. Hawks is continuing on the work that brainwashed and conditioned him as a child. he was not truly punished for killing Twice, which was repeatedly pushed as the Wrong and Unheroic thing to do. He was not made to face Jin's ghost and the reality of his crazed obsession (and he *is* crazed, he truly loses his composure and is yelling about killing the villains at the end). i was hoping for a Toga - Hawks confrontation. that he would see and face Sad Man's Parade and the absolute pit of despair that developed in Toga when Jin was killed. that made her truly cement that they as villains are not "human" to the Heroes. That they aren't worth saving.

and they fucking weren't!!!! THEY ALL DIED!!!! THEY WERE ALL KILLED!!!! We aren't saying Touya is still alive because him potentially living on as a husk in a tank forced to talk to endeavor is not him "living" in any sense of the word

izuku did not come up with a way to save Tenko. he had no plan. he never listened to or attempted to understand his point of view, or what was wrong with hero society at all. the last link above states this better than i can, but his total chosen ignorance of the reasoning why the villains are the way they are is why i just do nooooot like this kid and never have. his arc from scared quirkless bullied kid to confident hero who people look up to was a decent one - but outside of those surface level accomplishments? he's as flat as the paper in his notebook. he still keeps secrets and is not transparent with Uraraka or his friends (from ch 429 he hasn't grown at all in that respect) and Uraraka still bottles up her feelings.

society doesn't KNOW ANYTHING about what happened during the war. most of the fights were not televised. uraraka and toga's ending, arguably the best and most well rounded of the villain fights because she actually fought hard to understand and empathize with toga, falls on deaf ears because no one knows about it. no one saw it. Everyone still dehumanizes Toga and the rest of the LoV from their ending comments about how evil and awful they were, that they just wanted to destroy and sew chaos.

and toga died. she, out of all the LoV, had the best chance to live a better life. her quirk could be used for blood transfusions as we saw in the end. there was no reason for her to die. to make uraraka miserable because she couldn't save her - something Uraraka's character arc just throws away because she goes from wanting to be a hero for the money to wanting to save people after nighteye died. but she didn't save Toga, and izuku didn't save Tenko. no one really saved anyone (save for Shouto who made a new move specifically to stop his brother and NOT KILL HIM, but damn touya i'm so sorry they did you so dirty)

her fear came true: they weren't human in the end, not to the audience, not to the heroes (outside of uraraka), and certainly not to society that hasn't changed at all. there's no new support system in place for helping troubled youth, there's no destigmatization of "villainous" quirks because no one fucking knows or cares to know more about the LoV's roots. Thank god spinner's alive to yell at izuku about how stupid he is for killing his friend who loved video games and reading manga because no one else is gonna do it!

the hero ranking system and hero vs villain dynamic still seems alive and well. to our knowledge, villains haven't become fewer. no social services to help homeless or abused kids (touya, toga, tenko, etc), no real lasting change when it comes to quirk vs quirkless folks. that was NEVER really addressed properly - that Aoyama's parents were so terrified of their son being bullied and having a bad life for being quirkless that they reached out to a villain who gave him a quirk that was incompatible with his body and caused him pain and discomfort. all to avoid societal stigmas that come with being quirkless. as far as we've seen, society hasn't grown or changed in that regard, either. quirkless folks are probably still bullied and have fewer opportunities than people with quirks.

the whole child soldiers/kids going to war thing, well that's a shounen staple so we can't expect that to go away. the fact that the kids were maimed and katsuki fucking *died* in the war that killed all the villains... yet new kids come into UA wanting to be the new gen child soldiers. fucking WILD dissonance there.

anyway, maybe this clears up some of our frustrations with the manga ending and how it's been handled. have a good one

I actually found Astarion to be the most insufferable character in gaming since I can remember.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I have a growing distaste for people who use trauma as an excuse to be a terrible person and expect the people they hurt to just deal with it.

I'm not a fan of villains (I find goodness despite trauma more compelling), I was thinking about why Cazador's cruelty doesn't bother me like Fail Elf's. Here's what I came up with:

The unnecessary cruelty of Cazador is about displaying power. He has the power to hurt his victims, they can do nothing to stop it, and he will never face any consequences for his horrendous acts. The pointlessness IS the point.

Astarion is unnecessarily cruel from the moment he's free, as if he's already ascended. He has "don't you know who I think I am" energy. Except not only does he lack any sort of power, he's also physically weak. The only thing stopping him from getting jumped is the game's reluctance to make him face any consequences, and everyone in universe being annoyed by him but not enough to cause a scene.

So while there was a point to Cazador's unnecessary cruelty, there isn't one for Astarion other than to just be a dick. He doesn't gain any strength or power whenever he chooses cruelty. "I have a growing distaste for people who use trauma as an excuse to be a terrible person..." Before Astarion ascends, he isn't necessarily an evil person. Just a terrible one.

I have no interest in rehabilitating terrible people. They know what they're doing and they just don't care. I have never been the type of person or had the energy to "fix someone". I'll help them fix themselves, but I am not doing the leg work. Especially for some random dickhead my character knows zero about.

I know his whole thing is "evil is the only way I know to be safe" but c'mon dude. You're a grown ass man, stop with the edgelord "the world is cruel so why be kind" shit.

Man, Sun needs to go out onto that beach and have a nice scream. Just...push EVERYTHING out! Like, my gosh, I'm feeling stressed FOR him!! And, while I'm still feeling a lot of anticipation for Dazzle telling Sun their 'secret', that is NOT something he needs added onto the pile of awful things that he has right now.

I will say...I cannot WAIT to see how Moon reacts when he gets to that labyrinth and finds that Bloodmoon is already dead (cause I'm VERY sure that Monty isn't going to get to Earth before she kills Bloodmoon). But, that also makes me worried. Like, I'd LOVE if Earth and Monty are already gone by the time Moon gets there, and he just sees Bloodmoon dead on the ground and is just STUNNED! I then just imagine Ruin coming over some speaker and being like, "Oh, yes, you JUST missed your chance at him! Too bad!" But, if Moon learns that it was EARTH who killed Bloodmoon...PHEWF!! He might ACTUALLY explode in anger!

While it still hurts, at THIS point, I'm choosing to think about Moon the way I would think about an antagonist. If HE'S going to fully accept the "bad guy" role, then that's how I'm going to think of him. ESPECIALLY with his "being the bad guy isn't so bad" thing! Like, okay, cool. You're the villain now. Great. I'll just keep having a good time screaming over the past villain who's currently working toward redemption! Even as a villain, I liked him more anyway. (Yes. I'm petty and also angry. I'm kinda just letting out frustration tbh.)

I AM going to consider a future event to makes myself feel better. So, Earth killing Bloodmoon...she's probably going to go down a bit of a spiral (probably not a huge one, but just kind of question herself). At some point, Eclipse will show up (with him likely dying, I feel like he might try and spend more time with Earth when he can), and Earth will tell him what happened and just generally express how she's feeling about it. For any of her doubts, Eclipse would probably just be like "Look. What YOU did was for the purpose of defending yourself and Monty. Bloodmoon was actively ripping them apart. You took action. That's not evil."

It very well might not happen, but thinking about those two becoming closer makes me happy. So, that's what I'm choosing to think about right now.

I haven’t participated in ages, but here’s a good ‘ol song which describes the end of “Rise of the Villains: The Shadow” (prequel to Darker than Black) perfectly. It speaks about the time when Atoosa (Ombra) discovers a harsh truth about the cause of the death of her parents and the protector gods especially Raiden, after being a low level servant ar the Sky Temple. That very truth is that the protector gods are involved in a cult which killed her parents and many more innocent people (in that flight incident). However, this is only a portion of the main picture. Atoosa faces a tough decision: take revenge and be free of the chains of their control forever, or linger beside Raiden, and endure the chains of being a good girl who watches her life burning in flames.

Catch me as I fall

Falkus finds me, and tells me what I need to hear. Raiden, the very man I have feelings for, is on the same side with my parents’ murderers. I don’t want to believe it, in fact, I want him to catch me and save me. I want him to say that he is here for me, and that nothing is going to go wrong, so I won’t drown in this pain.

Killing each and every one of those cultists is undoubtedly a scary set of flights, and once I take the first step, there will be no turning back. But it will quench my rage, and help me feel better; perhaps even the world.

However, something called fear is always there. I am willingly choosing to be the bad guy. I am crossing the moral codes my parents carved into the back of my mind. If I take Falkus’s hand and leave everything behind, I will become the exact kid my larents would despise. They wouldn’t want someone as pathetic as me to be their child.

Incoming mini-essay! (TL;DR - Miguel O'Hara as a character has much to say about grief and guilt, and how it can harm people.)

After watching Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, I am filled with thoughts!!! So many that they can't all be contained here, and I'll probably have to write an actually essay later--however, I wanted to share some of my feelings and ideas about Miguel and his role in the story, specifically.

Miguel is obviously an antagonist to Miles throughout the story. And, I would actually argue that he is an antagonist to everyone, including himself. He's cynical, he's controlling, he projects his fears onto everyone, and he is terrified of change. The scene where he tells Miles that he is the "original anomaly" is a obvious display of all of that.

Despite this, Miguel still isn't a villain; he isn't evil, and he isn't doing any of this because of pure malice. Instead, he's doing it out of fear. Because Miguel is also an anomaly (at least, I think so). Miguel has more in common with Miles than he does the other Spiders, which is why I think he blames Miles for so much as the "original anomaly."

We know, as the audience, that Miles shouldn't be blamed for anything that has happened. It is not his fault that the Spot brought over a radioactive spider from Earth-42; it's not his fault that he got bit; it's not his fault that the original Spider-Man dies; it's not his fault that the Spot became the Spot. Any logical person can see that Miles didn't have any control over these situations; so why can't Miguel?

He can't because Miguel believes that Miles will cause and experience exactly what he did. We know that a major part of why Miguel is so uptight is because when he disrupted canon, his entire world disintegrated before his eyes. And, its a logical fear; as he said himself, is it worth saving one person over ending the world? But this is where things get complicated: does "disrupting canon" actually cause the world to end?

Peter B. Parker, for example, has a daughter. Jessica Drew is pregnant. None of the other Spiders seem to have children, so wouldn't these be an example of canon being disrupted? Pavitr's world still seems to be around (I'm assuming), after we saw canon disrupted. Gwen's father LITERALLY quit his job, meaning he didn't die, and therefore also disrupted canon. But...nothing happened to Gwen's Earth, even though she was gone for several months.

And, the cherry on top, if Miles is an anomaly, how come nothing has happened to Earth-1610 and Earth-42? Why did nothing happen when the original Spider-Man died?

All of these things, I would like to add, are also very different to what Miguel did. Miguel abandoned his world for a new one, taking the place of a version of him that died. He was in the wrong world. And this reminded me of a certain antagonist in Into the Spider-Verse: King Pin.

Throughout the entire movie, King Pin desperately tried to bring another version of his family into his world. In the end he failed, whereas Miguel succeeded. Of course there are major differences, still. King Pin was entirely selfish and didn't care what consequences came with getting his family back, whereas Miguel thought he wasn't hurting anyone. But Miguel still managed to hurt people, and that's what seems to linger for him. The guilt and grief that he caused the destruction of an entire Earth.

And he can't see past it. Despite the many examples we see throughout the movie that go against what he believes, he can't see beyond his own experience. And if he were to admit that Miles could be correct, his understanding of what happened to himself has to be completely reevaluated. All of that grief that he has suppressed, all of the work he's done to "fix" things; all of that changes.

This is what makes Miguel so compelling to me. I don't think what he said to Miles was warranted, but I can understand where he comes from. The other Spiders can too, because a lot of them have already experienced their canon events. It's what makes this conflict so complicated, so interesting.

Of course, we can't be 100% sure about everything until we see what happens in the third film, but it's all interesting nonetheless.

Ultimately, all I want to say is that I love this series, and I can't wait to see where it takes us next!

You have no idea how much I wished for S1Pearl to have a chaotic evil arc- I even had an idea where in S2 instead of being yk, a GOD APPARENTLY??? GIRLY SLAYED SO HARD SHE BECAME A LITERAL CELESTIAL BEING???

Like in my head, I just have this, corrupted Pearl in mind, cause, think about it. I would have NOT need surprised if she joined Xornoth in S1 just for the thrill. Like just to cause so chaos. Ofc she didn't but like??? The opportunity was there.

Also also, imagine if instead of actually dying, she kinda got reincarnated? Like instead of becoming a Goddes she just rose up like a phoenix??? But a whitered one??? That would seek revenge on Sausage for causing her demise when he connected her to her land????? Hello???? Like it would have been such a funky interaction NGL. Imagine if the God thing was still there, so Sausage did keep her memory alive as the form of a Goddess, but INSTEAD of a Goddess of like, harvest (I like forgot what she is about cuz NGL, she gives me so much Athena and Artemis vibes mixed up with some Demeter) she was like a being of Chaos and nightmares?? Like hello?? Corrupted Pearl arc when??? (This is all said in a light hearted way DW)

Anyway.

The fact that when I make funky "what if" in my head, I never know if Pearl should be a hero or a villain, cause like, love her vibes, but she's honestly the embodiment of chaotic neutral so.. like I was thinking of a Star wars au, (that I'm never gonna make seriously) and I was thinking about her arc, which would probably be something like, Padawan, then boom gets left behind, sith, then boom, fuck that, gray Jedi (don't come for me ik gray jedis aren't canon but wtf am I supposed to call her??) So like, blue lightsaber to red to white.

I have no idea how this post got to Star Wars honestly.

But at his point you all should be used to my posts not making any logical sense whatsoever.

Idw Sonic's "morality" is weird

"I'm gonna keep beating you until you act the way I think is cool"

And what about villains that he knows will never change?

"I know you'll never change your ways, and you're a danger to innocents, but at least I get the pleasure of repeatedly smacking you around"

This just makes the comic's version of Sonic look extremely scummy

"If you change your ways, I get the satisfaction of knowing I beat you into submission. If you don't change your ways, I get the continuous satisfaction of pummeling you for fun. But as long as I personally vibe with your attitude, I'll leave you alone"

Really makes you wonder how he views people

This is one of the multiple reasons I think "Big Oof" deserved to be memed into oblivious for how bad it is, and not just because of the cringe factor.

Think about it carefully. Sonic, in issue #50, makes a long speech that boils down to "I think everyone deserves freedom, including the doctors". He thinks that Eggman and Starline have the chance to redeem themselves, and as such, he can't decide whether they should live or die: he has, in his incorrect words, made peace with enough enemies to know that violence is not always the answer. This is his reaction to Eggman after he caused an untold amount of pain and misery with his Metal Virus:

Even Steven Universe resented the Diamonds, man.

But then Starline dies in #51, a death that comes mere hours after his showdown with Surge. A death that has clearly upset the sensitive Belle. And Sonic's only reaction? Comforting his friend? Thoughtful silence because there are no appropriate words? No. It was basically "lol".

I would wager that a person who is so deeply convinced that everyone deserves the chance to live and experience the world and make choices would be a little more disappointed that one of said people was suddenly deprived of said freedom.

And what was the common argument against this?

"Well Starline was a monster who brainwashed two kids, no wonder Sonic didn't cry over him!"

Oh. So Starline didn't deserve redemption, after all. (let's ignore how this implies that 1) Sonic knew about that, which no he didn't, and 2) Eggman is not as bad as Starline, which lol) So Sonic clearly thought of Starline as being so evil, so twisted inside, that his only epitaph should be a meme, in the face of his philosophy.

Then what the fuck was the point of that long verbal masturbation sequence?

I tell you what: to put Surge at her place. To place himself as superior to her. To shut her (valid) concerns down. To dismiss her. He was talking for the sake of an epic quote.

Oh, was that not the intended interpretation? Then maybe you should learn how to write a character.

(speaking of which, his insistence that Surge will come around to him because "he has made peace with enemies before" is not only incorrect, but fucking scummy. You asshole. You utter insensitive arrogant pustule. How come you give Surge less agency than his own abuser. I am so glad that you barely feature in IDW anymore because the writers have decided that they'd rather ruin their OCs.)

I kinda imagine GoldHeart seeing this when he and Flug have their reunion in the Mictilan, claiming to be the good guy while doing evil things.

I always have three headcanon versions of GoldHeart,

1. One is where is completely ruthless and bully to Flug and treats Flug like a jerk because he can

2. One where he was once a hero but lost his way after climbing to the top and at the same time loses his friendship with Flug.

3. And one where his reasons for wanting to end Vilainy forever and his relationship with Flug is more complex than one meets the eye (will write a post explaining this).

I haven’t posted the first one cause I feel like it’s a little too sadistic but with the recent theory and more Villianous content about GoldHeart and his plan I feel like it’s the time and a little more confident to post more ruthless GoldHeart content.

The Evil and The Genius

Chapter One: Interruption in the routine

As the sun was rising in the early morning, it peaked through the window of the sleeping boy genius, known by the name of Jimmy Neutron. The sunlight hit his resting eyes, causing them to flutter open after a few seconds. He groaned in annoyance as he rolled over to his side, where the sun wouldn't hit his vision, still wanting to sleep. Though Goddard didn't allow it to continue for more than a few more seconds before tugging at the blanket covering him, growling as he did so.

Jimmy lets out another tired groan before sitting up, rubbing his eye. "Alright, alright, I'm up boy. I'm up." He let out a small yawn as he looked at the clock on his side table, it reading 8:05 am. Thankfully for him, it was a Saturday without any plans, so there wasn't any need to rush.

"Go downstairs, boy! I'll catch up to you after I'm all dressed!" Jimmy spoke in a tired tone, though he tried to make it seem a bit more excited so that Goddard would listen. Effectively, this worked as intended, as his robotic dog wagged his tail and let out a few excited barks before rushing out of his room.

Jimmy sighed before getting out of the bed, stretching as he did so. Lately, it's been the same old, same old: He wakes up, goes to school despite him not technically needing to, fix the townspeople's problems that are honestly accidently his fault more times than not, gets back home, stays up later than he should be to continue working on his latest inventions, then goes to bed at around 4 am. It's tiring, but it is what it is, or at least in Jimmy's mind. Besides, at least he hasn't needed to fight against any villains for awhile now, so that's something for him.

Once fully dressed, he met Goddard downstairs, who is sitting next to his mom, Judy, who's currently making breakfast.

"Oh, hello Jimmy! I hope you were able sleep decently, since your father decided to have a one-man movie night again, and you and I both know how he likes his tv! Nice and loud!" She said with a slight chuckle, turning towards him as she held a pan in her hand.

"Yep, I know exactly that! But yes, I slept quite well despite that." Jimmy lied through his teeth with what he tried to make look like a genuine smile, simply not wanting his mother to either worry about him or punish him. It's not like he meant to stay up until 5:34 am working on a power blaster, it just sorta happened!

Judy, unaware of what really happened last night with Jimmy, smiles warmly back at him. "That's good! Now, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Oh, no need for that, dear mother. I'm not hungry." He told her, walking past her to grab a drink for himself in the fridge.

"Oh, come on, Jimmy! That's, what, the fifth time you didn't eat breakfast this week, correct, young man? C'mon, it doesn't have to be much, it can be simple , like some buttered toast!" She told him sternly, holding the pan in one hand and her hip in the other.

Jimmy let out a soft and quiet groan before turning towards her with a drink in his hand, knowing that she's just simply worried for his health. "Fine, I guess I'll have some toast. Please and thank you." This caused Judy to smile at him before turning away and walk towards the toaster. " Alrighty then! Toast, coming right up!"

After around 5 minutes, Jimmy exits the house after eating some toast, with Goddard quickly following behind him. Normally, Jimmy would head straight for the shed and into his lab on days like this, but sadly he needs overall more materials to continue on with his current projects and they had yet to arrive. So for now, he's just walking around town, seeing if there's anything he could do.

"Jimmy!!" A familiar voice called out to him after a few moments of wondering and looking around. Jimmy turned to see where the voice was coming from, and gazed his eyes upon Sheen waving at him with Carl following behind him, playing with a couple of plush llama's. "Ah, hello Sheen! Hello Carl! How are you two doing this morning?"

"We're doing good, Jimmy! Though we may need to be careful due to all the new rumors that's been going around." Carl said in his usual timid tone as Jimmy approached the two. "Rumors? What are these rumors that you are speaking of?" Jimmy said, not being able to recall any that would need anyone to be careful.

"Oh, haven't you heard? There's a lot of strange things that have been happening since yesterday, though it hasn't been anything that bad yet." Carl responded, still playing with the llamas.

"Yeah, like their shoelaces being tied together while they weren't looking, or their drink being moved further away from them! Nobody has been able to see who or what's been doing this, so for all we know it could be anyone, even multiple lizard people!!" Sheen added.

"Hmmm... well, I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like a lot of people are just being paranoid." Jimmy said in an unamused tone, as if he doesn't believe it to be anything of importance as of right now.

"Sure you will, Jimmy! Say, wanna come to my place and watch a few movies with me and Carl? We have allll day to do it!" Sheen said in his usual loud and cheerful tone, pointing his thumb towards the direction of his house.

"... Honestly, yes, I would like to, Sheen. I don't really have anything else to do anyways. That is, if nothing important comes up and interrupts it." Jimmy chuckled softly to himself after he said that.

"Oh please, nothing bad ever happens to kids on Saturday! Anyways, we are doing this thing where we each bring two movies of our choice that we haven't seen, got that?" Sheen told Jimmy.

"Yeah, I got it.. though it might take me a couple minutes to get them. Just set everything up at your place while I go grab my share of the movies, okay you two?" Jimmy stated to his friends. There's basically no movies in his house right now that he hadn't watched at some point in time, so he needed to go buy them himself to be able to do this with them.

Sheen and Carl each gave him a thumbs up before walking towards Sheen's house as Jimmy also walked away from them and towards the center of the town, where all the stores primarily are. As he walked closer and closer to the nearest DVD store, he began to notice that more and more people look as if they have just been pranked, and yet don't know who exactly pranked them. Like this man who had silly strings everywhere on him, or this older woman that kept swearing that someone had switched her lemon water with a lemon-lime soda while she wasn't looking. Very minor and harmless things, but little by little, it became clear to the little genius that maybe the rumors that his friends told him about weren't as big of a hoax as he originally thought.

"Goddard, is it just me who thinks that maybe Sheen and Carl were right about the rumors?" Jimmy asked his robotic dog friend as they passed by one of the many alleyways, who in response barked at him and nodded his head. "I thought so. Maybe we should be a little extra careful about our next moves while whoever is doing this is still-"

Suddenly, in the dark alleyway he had just about passed by, Jimmy heard laughter. Quiet, hushed, and more importantly, familiar laughter.

"There's no way that's who I think it is." Jimmy thought to himself, turning back around to look in the alleyway where the laughter came from. "There's no why that it's-"

He silently stood in shock for a few seconds as he laid eyes on the source of the laughter. It was his clone that only went by the name Evil Jimmy. The very same clone that he had placed in what is known as the dark matter dimension, that of which he thought he would never escape from. And by the laws of science, he still hasn't changed how he looked one bit during that time.

Evil Jimmy, who looked just as surprised to see Jimmy as Jimmy was to see him, proceeded to give him a smug grin as he leaned against the wall. "Heya there, Whippy-Dip. Missed me at all?"

Jimmy let out a few stutters before being able to say anything, or rather yell anything, that made sense. "I- how- You! Were you the one who's been terrorizing everyone in the town since yesterday?!"

The clone shrugged his shoulders as if he didn't know, despite his face saying otherwise. "Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. There's no real way to know."

"Oh please! It definitely was you, and you can't even try to deny it!!" Jimmy shouted as his clone gave him a smirk. "B-besides, how'd you even escape that dimension in the first place?! I ran all the possiblies of you escaping and there were practically zero chances of it happening!! So explain yourself!"

"How aboooout I don't? Yeah, let's go with no. I don't feel like telling ya how I did it, and it's not like you can make me tell ya!" Evil Jimmy said smugly as he walked closer to Jimmy, causing Goddard to start barking at him as he stood in front of Jimmy.

Lately, Jimmy's patience has been in an all time low due to his lack of sleep and having to constantly fix problems in short periods of time, which meant that quickly his fear and confusion turned into pure annoyance, and it showed. "Tell. Me. Now." Jimmy told him sternly as he stepped forward, having the two of them now be face-to-face with one another.

"I. Said. No." He said in a mocking tone while cockily grinning at Jimmy.

Jimmy let out a soft sigh before suddenly grabbing his clones ear tightly and started dragging him by it back to his lab with a fast pace. His clone let out a yelp as he started getting dragged.

"OW OW OW- HEY- LET GO!-" He cried out as he struggled to break free from his grip, trying to pry Jimmy's fingers off of his ear.

"Quiet down, will you? You're only making an embarrassment out of yourself by being so loud." Jimmy told him harshly, still dragging him to the lab. In all honesty, he just doesn't want people to see the two of them, immediately recognize the clone, and start freaking out about it. That'll only mean that people would start putting even more pressure onto him as to get rid of him, as if the fact that he's back wasn't enough already.

Thankfully, Evil Jimmy listened to the best of his abilities and try to keep quiet, still letting out sharp breathes and small exclamations of pain every once in a while. Quickly, or in Evil Jimmy's case, finally, they made it to the lab, thankfully without being spotted by anyone either. As they entered the lab, Jimmy pushed him to the ground as he closed the door behind them both.

"Now are you willing to tell me how you managed to escape? Or do I need to do some more convincing?" Jimmy said as he looked down at him as Evil Jimmy rubbed his sore ear.

"Fine, fine, I'll tell! I made a dimension traveling bike with a bunch of tiny scraps lying around, which is how I got out of that dimension and back into this one!" He hissed at his blueprint of a human being, being annoyed at the position that he was currently in. He was the evil one! He was supposed to scare Jimmy, not the other way around!

"Hmmm... okay, okay, good to know.." Jimmy muttered softly, placing a hand on his chin as he started slowly pacing back and forth. Okay, he now knows that he can't just put him back because if he could build it once, he could definitely build it again. But what should he do with him now, since that was the case?

After a few moments of silence between the two, Evil Jimmy stood back up and leaned against a nearby metal pillar. "Whatcha thinking, chief?"

"Thinking about a way to get rid of you, obviously. It's not like I can get rid of you the same way that I'd usually get rid of other villainous people. You are a clone of me after all, so you have a much higher IQ than most of the foes that I have dealt with in the past."

Evil Jimmy chuckled softly. "Oh really? What are a couple of your ideas of making me go away then?"

Jimmy stopped pacing for a moment and looked him directly in the eyes. "Well, I could put you at the bottom of the ocean in a glass box with a limited amount of oxygen. Or I could shoot you up into space, maybe even send you to planet Zeenu, and you definitely wouldn't like that. Trust me on this, the residents there are more unintelligent than Sheen's shoe and their rulers are absolutely terrible at their jobs and their morals." He then started pacing back and forth again, as if those ideas still weren't good enough for him. I mean, he is a clone of him after all, and if Jimmy could easily and quickly get out of those situations, then of course he would as well.

Evil Jimmy continued to watch Jimmy for a moment, listening to him mumble to himself as he tried to come up with a plan as to what to do with him. When he suddenly had an idea himself.

"Hah, well, what's stopping you from doing any of those plans of yours?"

"Two things. One, I'm very low on materials to be able to do that. Two, for some reason, those would now be considered 'immoral' of me to do to you, despite me having done way worse!" Jimmy told him with a frustrated look as he continued to pace, as if these things have been a problem for him for a few months now. "But they would still basically never let me off the hook if I were to effectively harm you to the point where you're immobile or dead. So I need to scrap most of my ideas if I want to not have to deal with anymore of that."

Evil Jimmy mumbled in agreement with Jimmy's statement. He definitely has done worse than most of what he had just described. He did see him literally kill all of the other clones, with him being the sole survivor out of them. And to be completely honest, he's definitely the one who deserved to be killed despite that.

"Well, chief, I myself have an idea as to what you could do with me." The clone said in a soft voice as he checked his nails.

Jimmy stopped pacing again and raised an eyebrow at him. Though it would definitely be a bad idea if it was coming from Evil Jimmy of all people at the current moment, he couldn't help but be at least a little curious about what it could be.

Evil Jimmy looked up at him and gave him a gentle yet sly grin before speaking. "Maybe you could try and reform me. Lead me away from my evil ways."

Jimmy stood there shocked for a moment, I mean, this had to be some kind of trick, right? There was no way that he's genuinely wanting to be reformed. He was definitely just planning on using this as a way to trick the others into some kind of betrayal against Jimmy. ".. And why would I do that? You were literally terrorizing everyone in the town just moments earlier."

"Oh please," Evil Jimmy flicked his wrist at Jimmy as he turned his head away, "I never harmed anyone with those pranks!.. At least, I don't believe I did. C'mooon, chief, just one crack at it?"

Jimmy groaned as he put some thought onto it. It definitely wouldn't work, at least not very easily, especially if the villain was the one who had the idea in the first place. But Jimmy didn't have any other ideas that either had the physical parts to do it or without him being bashed by everyone. Besides.. he could just imagine the praise he would get if he even just simply tried to reform him. And if he just kept a close eye on him constantly, he just might actually be able to keep him out of trouble.

Jimmy let out a sigh before speaking again. "Y-you know what? Fine, we can try to reform you. But you have to be compliant! Got it?"

"Cross my heart and hope to die, chief!" He said while making a cross motion on his chest and having a triumphant smile on his face, though had his fingers crossed behind his back as he did this.

"You better hope to die if you ever decide to push your luck too far." Jimmy told him sternly, when he realized something. ".. If we were to start though, we would need to give you an actual name."

"Hm? Why though? Wouldn't it just confuse everyone who already knows about me?" He asked, tilting his head in confusion.

"... You're current name is literally 'Evil Jimmy'. It'll be kind of hard for anyone to even begin to think that you were a better person if evil is in your name, wouldn't it?" Jimmy told him, causing the clone to have a look on his face that's clear that he feels dumb about not realizing it right away. "Besides, I'm sure it would be nice for you if people wouldn't be able to tell that you're a clone of me right away because of your name."

"... Alright, makes sense." He said, soon getting lost in thought. There was a lot of things he had thought about doing once he escaped the dark matter dimension, but an actual name for himself? Never even crossed his mind once.

"... Jack."

"W-wha-?" The clone snapped out of his train of thought as he suddenly heard Jimmy speak. "What, is there someone named Jack around here that I didn't know about? Are they going to be a problem, or-"

"No. I said Jack because you were clearly having troubles coming up with a name for yourself, so I threw it out there as a suggestion. Maybe have Jack as more of a nickname with Jackson being a full name for you. Does that sound good to you?"

He sat in silence for a moment before responding. "Yeah, that sounds good to me."

"Good, that's good. Now, Jack, what do you think we need to discuss next?"
