hi! ive been staring at this ask in my messages for a bit and ive been trying to work up the motivation to write so here we are! if you have any questions definitely feel free to dm me!

dae is just kind of her own thing! 'what species is dae?' is one or the questions i am asked most commonly so i'm not super shocked to see it here but i would say she fits into a wide variety of categories overall. deities work in a neat way in this universe so i'll write that down below the cut.

so, basically, the thing that distinguishes gods(or nebula-born, if you do not want to call them gods) from mortals is not a power level or anything like that, but the fact that they are composed of mana, not meat. effectively, mana is a dark matter-like substance in that it is not observable in most circumstances and is most common around sources of radiation, especially nebulae. it has rules, though, and can congeal like regular matter and form masses. if a mass grows large enough, it starts to form a sort of boltzmann brain, forming a nascent consciousness that can interface with other nearby mana 'brains.'

eventually, it finds something that interests it or that it has aptitude with, and will explore its relationship with it. over time, while also accumulating more mana to boost its processing power and capacity for intelligence, the nascent consciousness begins to form boundaries with the world around it, defining its sense of self and gaining a physical form, the shape of which is to its choosing. when it is happy with its physical form and the amount of mana--translating to magical power--it has, it becomes corporeal, a fully formed god. this method of formation means that gods rarely have just the one form and can choose several, being shapeshifters in their own right.

now, most gods form with a lot of power and control over their domain. dae is what you get when this process is botched, with a sense of boundaries established and a physical body created before an adequate understanding of ones' domain is acquired, as well as taking less time to accumulate magic before becoming corporeal and ceasing to accumulate it naturally. the result is a goddess that has some control over her domain but has flareups of power, lower general magical ability compared to most gods, and, in many circles, a reputation as a bit of a failgoddess, which she fit pretty well overall given that she's altogether not very outgoing, content to push out litters, get high, nerd out, and cum a concerning amount even for a fertility deity.

as well, because of this method of formation, dae is canonically trans! she had to do the usual transition process before her control over her domain grew such that she could make her testes generate estrogen, with her insisting that they're called estres now. she stopped short of changing her voice because she likes having a deeper, rather husky voice.

as for other species, there are a few, and i'll go over them very briefly.

soterians (so TEAR ee uns); an aquatic race of rather bulky leviathan-like creatures, hailing from a planet that was once a ravaged ecosystem, evolving to gorge themselves almost nonstop on an invasive fish that previously dominated their ecosystem

ozkvin (OSK vin); a species created by stationaryspoon/@eitantree and myself; the descendants--indirectly, through DNA injection-based transformation--of an ancient race wiped out by its star's supernova, prone to random mutations and rapid, extreme pregnancies. eusocial!

sekvanto (sek VON toe); a species created by dae, which started small and gradually grew to be quite numerous due to their inherited fertility. once the default for what she'd birth, but no longer. two head tentacles, a sharp snout similar to dae's, multiple sub-eyes to help with peripheral vision, and tall stilt-like feet. bears the mark of Dae in a random place on their bodies.

gvidanto (gvee DON toe); another species created by dae. far fluffier than the sekvanto, with softer details overall; quite rarer as well. the species of her first and primary worshipper, Sedett. born without eyes, but blessed with magical sigils of sight if they so desire. bears the mark of Dae typically over where their womb would be, but there are exceptions. generally proficient with sigilcraft, the practice of inscribing magically charged sigils personal to each gvidanto to act as enchantments.

yvvs (ihvs); semi-humanoid amphibians with gills, four sexes, an extremely planned civilization, and a wealth of technological knowledge that they rarely find the need to put to use due to their planning. known to be nudists, but largely because clothes were never all that useful underwater for them.

xeiskenn (ZAYS ken); if you've seen my cock transformation content with my sona, it's pretty close to that. a symbiotic intelligent species that supplants your reproductive system and your tail, if you have one, in exchange for access to their inborn magic resistance, as well as their own aptitude with magic. rarely seen, but impossible to miss. how they evolved is a mystery, but some suspect the involvement of a god of promiscuity long ago.

While she is religious she doesn’t really try to force your kiddo into religion either. After her trauma with the ‘cult incident’ she’d definitely encourage it but she’s the type to tell her kiddo to really look into what religion they want to follow if they really choose that path. She doesn’t want to risk her kid following another “dog god” religion. She doesn’t want her kid to experience what she did.

Mira isn’t a fighter and if you aren’t either she’s signing her kid up for self defense classes(maybe she asks Zack to show them a few things so yours and zacks kids end up training together🥺)

She would definitely try to make her kid realize how much more important it is for them to focus on studying, she’d probably sit down and ‘study’ with them to help them get into the groove. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) Review

This film features the MCU’s first use of the F-bomb, and I must say its inclusion works for a great joke. However Marvel fans better be prepared, as this is nothing compared to what Deadpool is going to bring to this cinematic universe. Don’t you dare PG Deadpool! Disney don’t you do it!!

Plot: Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Fresh off the heels of their very entertaining Holiday Special that gave us the gift of Kevin Bacon singing Christmas songs, the Guardians return for what is pitched as their final outing for this version of the team, as well as the final time James Gunn directs them before fully embracing his new head-of-DC duties. Look, we all love these characters, so of course even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself is stuck in a bit of a rut at the moment, there was no chance I was going to miss this final hurrah for these galaxy saving a-holes. 

I’m happy to report that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a very enjoyable superhero flick and a very satisfying conclusion for its heroes. What works for this movie is what Marvel itself currently lacks - focus. There are many characters here to balance yet Gunn manages to give each and every one of them a moment in the spotlight, whilst also delivering a tale filled with emotion, humour and heart. In a way it’s like the recent Thor: Love & Thunder, only it’s not a pile of crap. Unlike that movie, Guardians 3 manages to find a perfect stability between its comedy and dramatic heft, and the result is a super entertaining movie. 

Naturally the big focus is on Rocket and his tragic backstory, and yes there is some animal cruelty involved so be warned, but that dark element really rose the stakes for this film and made you really care and understand why Rocket is the way he is, whilst also providing the perfect motivation for our team to proceed. In terms of the backstory, yep, it can be at times hard to watch. But also the animal characters are really adorable. A scene between an intelligent raccoon, a rabbit with artificial legs, a walrus with wheels and an otter with metal arms really got to me in a way I didn’t expect. My heart of stone was touched. What was also effective in relation to the backstory and even the present story was the villain. Chukwudi Iwuji was fantastic playing a truly despicable and downright horrible antagonist who had no moral compass. All too recently Marvel has been trying to give all its villains an element to root off, so it was nice to see one that was simply a bad guy full stop. And Iwuji infused this character with terror and evil. And look, he was much more menacing than Majors’s Kang who is supposed to be the MCU’s new big bad. 

As mentioned prior, all characters get their moment to shine. It was nice seeing Chris Pratt return back to the goofball teenager attitude, as the character of Star-Lord was kind of ruined in the Avengers films and even in the Holiday Special he seemed off, but here Pratt makes Star-Lord once again the loveable idiot, and it was great seeing him back. Also his rapport with Gamora was very interesting, as following Endgame the original Gamora had died and was replaced by an alternate universe past version, so she doesn’t recall her romance with Star-Lord, so he is stuck longing for something he can never have which leads to both emotional and humoristic moments. Dave Bautista’s Drax and Pom Klementieff’s Mantis continue their fun banter following the Holiday Special, and Groot is, you know, still Grooting. At least it allows Vin Diesel to take a little break in between his endless Fast & Furious movies. Karen Gillan as Nebula brings her solid deadpan delivery, Sean Gunn’s Kraglin gets more opportunity to enjoy being part of the main group now, as Maria Bakalova voices Cosmo the Dog, and Cosmo is great. Just don’t call her “a bad dog”, she doesn’t like it. 

Visually this is one of Marvel’s best looking movies, especially since even though there is green screen used, it is pretty smooth. What’s more there’s a lot of practical effects used too, and I even read on IMDb that this film sets the record for the most makeup appliances used in a single film, having more than 23,000 prosthetics used across more than 1,000 actors. And I’ll always pick practical effects over CGI. In terms of negatives, there aren’t many. Will Poulter is introduced as Adam Warlock, and he seems the most shoehorned in, as his arc and inclusion feels very pointless and inconsequential. Will Poulter himself is solid playing yet another baby-minded caricature, but I feel like Warlock should have been saved for later or maybe introduced in an earlier movie. Also the soundtrack - it’s by no means bad and there are a few bangers, but it’s got nothing on Awesome Mixes Vol. 1 & 2. 

James Gunn emphasises yet again that without him Marvel is going to struggle, especially when it comes to continuing the storylines of some of these characters in the future, but nonetheless Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a wonderful ride and a great caper to Gunn’s trilogy, bringing lots of great humour, character dynamics and emotion, and gets you hooked on a feeling...one last time. Oh, and Gunn finally managed to properly show Nathan Fillion’s face in a Marvel movie, and that in itself is a win!

1: In general I like most doing sports, so my most favorite activity is inline-skating.

I literally skate for a whole day if possible, for over eight hours, resulting in over 80 kilometers (49,71 miles), including breaks for eating, refreshing and embracing the landscape.

4: I appreciate, like most, favor and whatever, love sliced potatoes with scrambled eggs, bacon and red onions.

It does not really need to be seasoned, but I do not mind either.

And when it comes to fast food (but got damn expensive since last year) my favorite meal is “Döner”, or Shawarma if you may, yet here these are two different things.

It is some thin, white bread, a sauce of your choice (garlic, chili or herb), chicken or cow meat and salad. (You may get cheese and other stuff for an extra charge.)

So mine would be herb sauce, recently rather chicken, cabbage, red cabbage, red onions, tomatoes and corn.

Vin is definitely one of the more paranoid protagonists I’ve seen, though I’m hesitant to call her the most as there’s also Moon from the Raksura series. Then there’s Kelsier, who while charming and confident and all that, is also kinda… murdery. I mean yeah, I can totally agree that overthrowing an oppressive empire and it’s god-emperor is a nice goal to have, and it would inevitably involve quite a bit of violence, dude is far too happy to commit that violence for anybody’s good.

On a different topic, if there’s people who can really mess with metal, I’d think that alternative materials for equipment would get greater use and investment. Sure, we saw some of that with Kelsier's glass knives and the hazekillers, but they just used canes and a wooden shield. I know they justified it with that type of ability being rare, but it still seems like the specialists could have been a lot better equipped. Where’s the leather, thick cloth, or lacquered wood armor? Why not full blown staves instead of canes? Or wooden spears? A thick and heavy stone war hammer? Just a bunch of people with slings and stones? Actually this line of thought brings to mind Saga Frontier 2, where the magic system resulted in almost nobody using metal equipment (at least until Gustave flipped the metaphorical table), albeit for very different reasons. But still, the point is that the people in that setting found all kinds of non-metallic things to use.

Now then. Thinking back on the question(s) Nauđr, you listed a fair few different meanings for it which I found quite interesting.

Yes, and I'm glad you asked. This is something that I've been trying to convince people is cool for so long that I have nearly given up. The rather popular translated edition of Skuggi's Galdraskræða ('The Sorceror's Screed' in English) has a bunch of this in it, but because it doesn't have secondary commentary most people don't know what they're looking at (not to mention that some of the information seems actually confused or mismatched in a couple places, not that that isn't normal for this kind of stuff). There's also some discussion of it in R. I. Page's edition of the Icelandic Rune Poem, as the rune poem is composed of these kennings and is very much part of the same tradition (indeed, there is no real Icelandic rune poem, just different configurations of these, some from a discernibly older stratum than others). Page's edition can be found here and I highly recommend it: http://www.vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/

All of the runes that were current in Iceland, usually including runes created by adding diacritics to other runes (such as the p-rune, plástur 'bandage' and the ö-rune ör 'arrow'), have these big lists of kennings that are recorded in probably dozens of manuscripts, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries, I think a few a little older. This manuscript is quite late (1894) and not necessarily representative, in fact by my estimation it contains some things that should be considered mistakes, but I like using it because it has a lot and because it's (relatively) easy for me to read. You'll notice some of these are a bit confusing or unexpected and some of that can result from copy errors and things like that. It's difficult and messy to work with which is probably why there aren't editions and things like that. Undoubtedly I both read at least something wrong, and also translated something else wrong. But despite the difficulties it's still baffling to me that more heathens aren't interested in this. I suspect it's because it's so chaotic instead of the neat, pure, systematic, and unambiguous that they've been convinced is what a tradition looks like (lmao).

I've kicked around the idea of compiling a bunch of these but I don't find that the work it takes is worth it considering the lack of interest. To do it right, well enough that it's worth doing at all, is a lot of work. It would involve cross-referencing manuscripts, checking possible alternative readings, and going through a lot of repetition. The two trends in heathenry with regard to runes seem to be either continued insistence on upholding only the most ancient and pure (read: fake) mysteries of the Elder Futhark in a way that isn't incompatible with Völkisch mysticism, or reducing the entire context to "they're just letters (and nothing else)." For the most part the only times I've found anyone express interest in knowing more it was someone I've never interacted with going:

Marsh was a Seeker, a Misting who could burn bronze. He was highly skilled and taught Vin how to use bronze effectively.

Upon becoming an Inquisitor, he gained further abilities in Allomancy and Feruchemy through the use of Hemalurgic spikes. He gained many more spikes than were usual for an Inquisitor, twenty-one. Some of the spikes Marsh has have granted him the abilities of Allomantic steel, iron, pewter, tin, brass, zinc, duralumin, and atium, as well as granting him the abilities of Feruchemical pewter, steel, gold, and atium. His spike for Allomantic bronze, coupled with his natural ability as a Seeker, lets him pierce standard copperclouds.

His multiple atium abilities allow him to extend his life as Rashek had. In addition to this, he kept the bag of atium that KanPaar attempted to sell, meaning that he has enough to stay alive for a very long time.

Like his brother, Kelsier, Marsh hated injustice. As a result, he led the skaa rebellion for many years. However, the two brothers did not get along. While Marsh was busy trying to overthrow the Lord Ruler, Kelsier led a band of thieves - and was wildly successful at it. Though she would come to marry Kelsier, Marsh had also loved Mare, which only further increased the division between the brothers. When Mare and Kelsier failed during a heist of Kredik Shaw, they were sent to the Pits of Hathsin, ultimately costing Mare her life. It was the final nail in the coffin for Marsh. He gave up the rebellion, unable to deal with the deaths of those he cared about, considering the whole endeavor dangerous and futile.

When Kelsier Snapped, becoming Mistborn, and escaped the Pits, he returned to his old thieving crew with plans to help the current Rebellion, under the leadership of Yeden. His new plot to overthrow the Lord Ruler only served to get under Marsh's skin yet again, and he doubted the veracity of Kelsier's intentions, thinking it was still all just a game to him. But despite it all, the brothers still loved one another and Marsh eventually agreed to help infiltrate the Steel Ministry, hoping his abilities as a Seeker would smooth his way in. Marsh continued to feel like he had been a failure compared to his brother and was determined to finally make a difference.

Same anon as before. I loved Vision, though as a Runaways fan I'm not sure how to feel about making Victor a murderer. Strange Adventures really feels like he had a decent story idea but stretching it to fill 12 issues resulted in too many useless plot twists. It felt at the beginning that he was going to do something re: the non "human" residents of the planet but then the thematic payoff turned out to be "being tortured made Strange evil."

I didn't read his Strange Adventures at all! But the 'being tortured made Strange evil' thing sounds kinda par for the course, King is...weird about trauma, as we all discovered very thoroughly in HiC.

Word on the street is he's a veteran? Ah I have looked it up he spent a decade in CIA counterterrorism, so that kind of culture but weirder and with less access to social support. Which honestly explains a lot, because his relationship to the concept of trauma is very...military-man focused, with an emphasis on isolation.

The central preoccupation he keeps drawing his stories back toward is the experience of being a man who wants to be Normal (generally in the sense defined by Marriage and Stable Nuclear Family), but is impaired by his Trauma and Brokenness. The classic PTSD Veteran narrative, reformulated variously. Which works out, artistically speaking, better sometimes than others, and better for being self-contained and having fewer characters to work with.

His Vision worked so well because the whole story he was telling was about the dissolution of that middle-class normality construct under the burden of emotional disregulation and pretense. And because of the nature of Vision's family, all of them legitimately were props reflecting aspects of Vision's identity crisis, because he literally made them as props for his vision of what a normal guy was like and how he could fit into it.

And that's an issue and desire that's dogged Vision for a long time (see: the saga of how we got Wiccan and Speed lol) so while it was a bizarre escalation it wasn't unnatural to the character.

All of them sharing the same spiral made sense, and the whole thing held together so it could be consumed on more than one level and still work. Readers can come away with different takes about whether the neurotic attempt to play human in order to achieve normal happiness was itself the problem or a worthy goal tragically doomed, for example.

In Mister Miracle, King had the advantage that Barda and Scott have heavily overlapping trauma so they could focus on it together without it being too weird and Barda being too obviously a scott-mirror, and Darkseid is designed to be daddy issues made monstrous, and the baby was too young to have opinions.

It's as he adds additional people who have their own stuff going on (without a co-writer to synergize with because his collab stuff doesn't suffer this as much from what I've seen) he falters. Because he has to either break his flow to allow for there being more than one fully realized psychology on-set or change the whole sensibility of the piece, when it turns out this heavy psychological work doesn't really allow for more than one actual person in the narrative, which is a very limited definition of psychologically-driven story lol.

So hm also yeah I think anyone in the Ultron branch of the Pym family should be understood as capable of killing. Especially the ones who were built as weapons. That's something legit to struggle with, for the character! As some variety from the Am I Person thing. (Viv's Champions struggle with alternatives to authority as virtue ethos has been a nice change on the robot front while also building somewhat on what Vision was working through in her series of origin.)

But the actual setup of Victor-Victorious (i tag him like this in my head because he is technically one of 3 Victors on the Runaways okay ;lsjfkd;l) killing his...nephew? Should we say nephew? I'm saying nephew, rip Vin Vision. Anyway I found it unsatisfactory yes. King did not attempt to do anything significant with Victor's character really he just gave him a drug problem and had him lash out. (And then die.)

Coming up with excuses to have a character lash out and create drama is of course a staple of cheap pulp literature like comics, and I don't want to say King shouldn't have access to cheap pulp narrative beats at all just because he gets pretentious because that's silly. Grim Reaper accepting Vision as a version of his brother but being Weird about it transforming into Grim Reaper wigging out and wanting to kill Vision for not being Wonder Man so he can in turn be the first to get murdered is within normal comic book drama variance.

But now I think about it King is noticeably drawn to that moment of trauma-explosion as a drama beat and story goal in its own right. It winds up centerpieced a little weirdly sometimes.

Like the focus of the narrative movement is on setting up that moment of collapse, like the desired catharsis is playing out the horror of it? And then even when space within the story is set out for recovery of some kind following, it tends to be weirdly perfunctory and unrewarding to read, because the narrative isn't involved with that as a goal and doesn't know what it should look or feel like.

Idk if this is like, King struggling with actual unprocessed personal trauma or the fear of it, or just a matter of personal taste shaped by environment? I don't normally think about that kind of thing at all and now that I have I'm still eh. But it does show up a lot.

                                 Happy 18th Birthday Katelyn

Today would’ve been Katelyn’s 18th Birthday had she not taken her own life  on that Friday evening Dec 30th 2016 as the sun was setting. I can’t help but wonder what she would’ve been like today if she were still here, what would’ve  been her plans and future goals.I would like to think that she would’ve beaten her depression and would be living a normal happy life. I saw so much untapped potential in this girl I’m sure had she been given the right opportunities, that she would’ve accomplished many good things in her future but sadly this will never be.

 Katelyn’s unfortunate choice five years ago completely wiped-out any chances of any of these possibilities ever manifesting. Regardless of what people may think and as sad as the circumstances were, Katelyn did make her own choice. Some speculated her suicide was a result of poverty, physical abuse, neglect and even rape. I agree to a point on some of these speculations but they seldom take her depression as seriously as it should’ve been . Honestly I don’t think that these people know what real poverty, abuse or neglect is like as there are hundreds of thousands and more of kids around the world in far worse situations than Katelyn but they don’t take their own lives. I believe that depression had a major part to play in Katelyn’s decision. Depression in most cases is silent and goes unnoticed, is often ignored as attention seeking but it is a very deadly illness, it is easier to heal from broken bones than to heal from the illness of the mind. We all have the will to live and to survive no matter how difficult the circumstances, its built into us, so when one has lost that will and gravitates towards death, then something has gone seriously wrong.

There are so many factors and angles to this case, it would be impossible or too lengthy to list them all, one may even look at the spiritual factor as well, from what I heard Katelyn’s grandfather committed suicide in the trailer house where she lived and it was also the home of a serial rapist, anyone who may have some knowledge of occultism/ spiritualism would know that that place would've been carrying some heavy energies that could influence those living there and attract certain discarnates and/or nature spirits who feed on such energies.The world is full of earthbound souls i.e. those who haven’t moved on as yet for various reasons and many such souls latch on unknowingly to those who show similar traits as themselves and exaggerate these traits influencing them to do things they might not otherwise do. I do suspect that a sinister influence was influencing Katelyn, as to who it was, a past relative, or some other discarnate idk.

As I sit here contemplating on what to write, I remember watching some time ago actor Vin Diesel talk about his good friend Paul Walker’s death and how it affected him. He said something that I considered very wise.“That no matter who you are or where you’re from, if you love someone, they’re your family”. And myself, I’m sure like most of those who aren’t related to Katelyn by blood, when we think of Katelyn, we  love and consider her as family.

To her blood relations, I’m sorry that she’s not there with you to celebrate what would’ve been her graduation into adulthood today. I’m saddened for the abuse poured out on her biological parents by strangers who never even knew them or Katelyn but just took and ran with whatever they read online. Some people today probably still think of Katelyn as the child who hated her abusive mother and neglectful father who drove her to suicide when in fact it was most likely just the opposite, when she spoke about her dad, one could see that she felt neglected and desperately wanted his affection and love, the negative things that she said about him, that was her way of lashing out at someone who she loved but felt abandoned by.

As I’ve said before both parents must bear some responsibility for their actions or lack thereof “even Katelyn must bear responsibility for the things that she posted online that resulted on the barrage of hatred heaped out on her parents after her death”. I’m sure that if she could see and feel the results of her actions in the lives of her loved ones, the hurt,the pain,division and the hatred that she would instantly regret her decision. I mentioned in a comment recently that there are many people who grew up in good environments with good parents and still commit suicide. The recent suicide of former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst  RIP .One would think that she had it all, she was beautiful,well educated, had a great career and family and friends who loved her. She and Katelyn had something in common they both struggled with “depression” which in her case resulted in her jumping from the 29th floor of her of her apartment building, leaving those who knew and loved her in utter shock. 

There are those who will disagree with my views, it may even evoke anger in others, that is their prerogative but I’m not writing to idolize Katelyn, make her a saint or put her on a pedestal. To me that would be a dishonor. I remember in one of her videos she said “this is me, this is how I am” She was a human like the rest of us, a human with ups and downs and both good and bad qualities, she was a troubled child in troubling circumstances that got the best of her, so to make her out as the perfect angel who could do no wrong, just doesn’t seem appropriate, but her shortcomings made her no less deserving of love,happiness, attention and opportunities than anyone else was. She deserved to live and her life was priceless just like everyone else's. I’m sorry she did not live to realize that.
