Horns: Made of coral or seaglass, many colors, medium or long length

Teeth: Sharp, triangular teeth. Lots of them

Hair: Any dark shade of blue, purple, black, or brown

Eyes: Same as hair but can be lighter. Pupils can be any shape

Gills: Sets of six on either side of the and ribs; very sensitive

Reproduction: Reproduce asexually. All water ghouls, male or female, have vaginas but instead of having a clitoris, they have a small sheathe in that area where a tentacle comes out. That tentacle allows for self-oviposition. 6-8 eggs come out of the tentacle and are put into the womb of the ghoul

Mates: If the ghoul is a solo ghoul, they will take one or no mate. If they are in a pack, the number of mates is increased.

Tails: Their tails can vary from fish-like tail to just sleek, black, or blue tails with spades on the end

Skin/fins: Same color as hair/eyes, but much, much lighter. Fins are thin and see-through. Fins are on the shell of their ears, length of their tail, and on their spine when fully unglamoured

Eggs: Their eggs are a translucent green no matter the color of the ghoul. The color of the kit inside is dictated by the color of the dot in the center of the parent(s), or if it's a mixed color, just by the color of the dot

Kits: While they lay 6-8 eggs at a time, only 2-4 of those survive and come out of the womb due to the other stronger eggs taking nutrients from the weaker ones

I'm very sure, that they have such notice boards in the ministry, where they rank the nice and the naughty ghoul of the week. Just because ghouls are like cats.

Mostly the naughty ones are Dewdrop and Swiss. Sometimes Phantom. Especially when he escaped out of the ministry and went to a candy store.

Rain and Aether are ranked as the nice ghouls most of the time. Aether because he is just so full of love and sweetness. Rain on the other hand is very ambitious about this. He will cry when he isn't the nice ghoul of the week. He will bother everyone by rubbing his head like a cat, snuggling up and asking if he isn't pretty or kind enough to be the nice ghoul of the week.

BIOLUMINESCENT GHOULS

Water Ghouls glowing as they swim like plankton, lines and dots appearing along their skin and are unique to each Ghoul.

Fire Ghouls’ eyes and veins glowing whenever they uses their powers, like magma cracking through rocks.

Earth Ghouls can sprout bioluminescent plants from their horns, fingertips and tail.

Quintessence Ghouls just naturally have a purple glow to their horns that gets stronger as they use their powers.

Air Ghouls can make their fingertips shine like sun rays peaking through the clouds.

Letting Rain indulge in his murder ghoul tendencies is necessary but comes with a thin line to walk because if the others are not careful he could turn that violence back around - its allowing him indulgence up to a point before hunger turns to gluttony.

Swiss and Aether both carry a lot of scars from a water ghoul lost in instinct, but Rain wears quite a few of his own in kind. He never lets himself be taken easily, fighting the two bigger ghouls till they take him to the ground and bleed him so full of quintessence his body goes entirely limp. They have to quite literally sedate him for their own safety. Sometimes it's bad enough Aether has to sift through the jumbled up wires in his brain to draw his humanity back to the surface.

Of course Rain feels guilty when he comes back to himself. He always does. He knows it's a problem but can never seem to stop himself. Every time he tells himself he won't indulge again, it seems to get harder and harder to draw himself back, but instincts are undeniable. They only remain dormant for so long.

Sure Rain love's going to pound town as much as the next ghoul, but what if, sometimes, he's content to just watch, to order.

He'll move a chair to the foot of someone's bed, probably Mountain, right in the middle so everything is in view. He'll light candles all throughout the room and start up the fireplace, making it warm, lighting it up in flickering reds and yellows.

He hurries then, rushing out to find Mountain in the common room, and giving him that all too familiar look before leaving just as quickly. As Mountain trails behind him, already filling out in his pants, he cant wait to get his hands on his water ghoul. He's excited, blood running hot through his veins. Until he clicks his door shut behind him and sees the chair in front of his bed.

His stomach drops, knowing the ache that awaits him, he's done this more times than he can remember. He could say no, have the night play out differently just by saying one word. Aurora scowls, arms crossed over her chest. Mountain raises an eyebrow, staring down at the little ghoulette. She tries to look threatening, despite him having at least two feet on her. Mountain seems unaffected.

"It's a basic waltz, Ro," he chuckles, striding over to reset the turntable for what must be the hundredth time tonight. "You just have to count to four."

"Says the drummer," she grumbles, picking at a cuticle. "With the mile long legs."

"And yet you're the one stepping on toes," he teases, gesturing at his newly scuffed boots. "I think my point stands."

Aurora sticks her tongue out at him and Mountain lets out a snort. Leans down to tuck a stray pale lavender curl behind her ear. It's the color of the week, matches her nails and eyeshadow and makes the silvery sheen of her eyes stand out. She's pouting at him, but Mountain still rubs their noses together.

"It's alright, petal." He takes her hand in his and brushes his lips over her knuckles. "You're still learning, and I've got all night. After all," he gestures at their surroundings, "this is just for you."

It's true, and a light dusting of pink crests Aurora's cheeks at the sincerity in his eyes.

The outdoor pavilion - usually reserved for celebrations and formal events - is truly a sight to behold tonight. Decked out in fairy lights and flowering vines that fill the summer air with with the heady scent of jasmine and wisteria, the only other light provided by the waning moon and sparkling stars overhead. A surprise, Mountain had told her. A little something just for her - dinner and dancing under the stars.

Except Aurora can't dance. At least not like this.

"I know," she mutters, straightening her skirt. She's glad she chose this dress - a flowy, sleeveless number in the palest shade of green, the hem embroidered with a vaguely floral design. It's Mountain's favorite. "I just..." she crosses her ankles, fidgets with one of her rings. "I thought I'd be better at it, is all."

Mountain tilts his head, hooks his thumbs in his pockets. He looks nice too, dressed in a light beige button down with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and dark jeans. Casual, but elegant in a way that suits him. The gold flecks in his emerald eyes stand out in the glow of the lights around them, as do the auburn streaks in his mousy hair. He looks beautiful, and it makes Aurora's belly warm to know it's just for her.

"You just started," Mountain rumbles, "no one's perfect without practice, Ro."

"I know, I know." She shakes her head, chews the inside of her cheek. "But I've seen you dance with Cu," she admits, quiet, "and she's so...so good, and I don't know why I can't -"

"Snowflake," Mountain interrupts, resting those huge hands on her slight shoulders, "do you know why Cumulus can dance like that?"

Aurora shakes her head, shifting foot to foot. Mountain's looking down at her with a gleam in his eye, a curl at the corner of his mouth.

"It's her vessel."

Aurora raises an eyebrow.

"The body Cumulus claimed when she was summoned," he explains and, well, she knows what a vessel is, but Mountain continues before she can balk. "It belonged to a ballroom dancer."

Aurora blinks up at him.

"Not exclusively, of course," he continues, "she also used to lead the human choir, but -"

"Really?"

She can't help the interruption. It's just such a surprise; she knows that most ghouls inherit skills possessed by the humans whose forms they inhabit, but she never would have guessed that was something Cumulus got.

"Really," Mountain confirms with a nod, his hands drifting down her sides to rest on her hips. "So I think it's safe to say you're making an unfair comparison."

"What did my body - my vessel used to do?" She can't help the curiosity, she's yet to find anything she's good at besides singing. "Did you know her too?"

"Hmm..." Mountain traces her hip bones while he considers the question, and it gives her the tinglies. "I think she worked in the kitchens, but since you could burn cereal..."

"Hey!" She gives his chest a playful slap and Mountain grins.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding." The ghoul leans down again, nuzzles the crown of her head. "I'm not sure, Ro, but don't worry." He stands again, his smile kind. "You'll find your thing, I'm sure of it."

Mountain leans down for a quick kiss, and Aurora rolls up onto her tiptoes to meet him. She can still taste the wine they shared on his lips.

"But for now," he murmurs, stepping close enough to rest a hand on her lower back, "may I have this dance?"

Aurora flashes him a toothy smile, getting her hands in their proper places. She flicks a finger towards the record player, sends a gust of cool wind to knock the needle into place, and Mountain hums in approval.

"We'll start slower this time, alright?" Aurora nods, settles into his gentle hold. "Just follow my lead."

The music flows around them, carried by the sweet summer breeze, and as Mountain counts out the steps Aurora hopes this night never ends.

I like to think earth ghouls like weighted blankets and tight places because in "wild" (lmao) they sleep in hella claustrophobic places among others.

Just Mountain and Rain chillin. Rain has found a water lily, and Mountain is keeping an eye on his clothes and keeping them dry.

A sort of list of ghoul headcanons i have! Its a big ol thing with mostly anatomy sooo read under the cut :3

Forms and glamours

Ghouls typically have four stages to a glamour. Well, three to four.

Stage glamour:

What it says on the tin, the whole mask and everything, they look akin to humans anatomy wise (with some exceptions, i.e if a ghoul is mutated, but more on that later) but the mask is in fact, well.. part of their anatomy. They just have a second 'face' under that looks akin to their human glamours. This glamour is specifically provided for when an instrument is tied to them, and lasts for how long they play and then about an hour. It can also stack from past practices and whatnot, so depending on how long theyve been there and bonded, it can in fact vary.

Full glamours:

Carbon copies of human anatomy (again, with some exception), you cannot tell the difference between a ghoul and a human if they are glamoured like this. It is, however, extremely taxing to do so, and will end up tiring them out quickly. Depending on how much they do it, however, they can increase the duration. At the bare minimum, its about an hour before they have to turn back.

Unglamour 1:

This is, essentially, the more humanized versions. They look more like how people portray demons, with the horns and tails and other unhuman features, and features can vary from type to type. Such as:

Water: Fins, Scales, Tail is sort of like a fish.

Fire: Dragonlike in appearance, slits in eyes, tail is absent of a spade.

Earth: Goat, Deer or Elklike in appearance. Most earth ghouls have hooves, but can also have normal legs if they so wish. Tail is spiked and has a spiked spade.

Air: Fluff and fur on some spots (Knees and below) Their tails resemble a lion's. Some air ghouls have wings, but they are rare, and pretty small.

Quintessence: Space-like in appearance. Most older Quintessence ghouls have their bodies put together, but you can find small wisps emitting from the younger ones. Due to their matter not exactly being the most.. stable, they can in fact shapeshift!

Multi: Varies wildly, depending on proficiency of element, or what elements they were raised with back in the pit.

Unglamour 2:

Monster-like in appearance, you do not want to engage, as when the ghouls are in this form, they are most likely hunting. Forms can vary wildly, but still following the rules of the criteria above.. just, more. Quintessence is the only one with a major difference from the ones, as they are masses of dark matter. If you look closely, you can see specks that look almost like stars.

Element stuff:

Fire:

Fire ghouls are the most common ghouls in the pit, along with water. They can be found all around the pit, and can vary from pitborn to those who were human.

Earth:

Earth ghouls are in tune with the nature and, well, earth sround them. They can sense the weather (depending on the severity, it can in fact turn into a migrane) and have a bit of control over the plants around them.

The earth ghouls are the ones that were closest to the earth, its rare of them to be seen deeper in the pits. Most of them are humans turned ghoul.

Air:

Air and Earth ghouls typically are in the same areas, though they're typically born in the pits, unlike the earth ghouls.

Water:

Water ghouls are essentially like fire, there's a surplus of them in the pits, and can vary from pitborn to people that were once human.

Quintessence:

Quintessence ghouls are.. a peculiar type of ghoul. Exclusively pit-born, if you could even call them that. Really, they come from an area outside of it, a void. They dont have actual physical forms before summoning.

Their powers are upon the belief that humans had that dark matter, or the element quintessence, could cure any ailment. They're, by far, the most powerful type of ghouls, as this power allows the most skilled to tap into someone's mind, and due to their own lack of solid form, they can shapeshift at will.

Multi:

Multighouls are seen wildly different in the pits than in the surface. As, well, there isnt any way to channel certain elements in the pit. So, theyre considered to have no element. However, with the ability to channel certain elements in the ministry, multighouls possess the ability to have multiple elements, although their abilities are much more limited, and purely based on their proficiency with the instrument correlating with the element. They are pit-born exclusively, with a recessive gene that causes the ability to use multiple elements.

Instruments

Instruments are the main channel of elements. When given an instrument, a ghoul can bond to it, giving them access to their stage glamours. They can replenish energy, however, sleep is more efficient. Each ghoul has a specific one theyre bonded to, however it can change, and they can have multiple.

Transitions and mutations

Transitions are only available without risk to ghouls that have the multighoul gene, but are not multighouls.

Sodo had the multighoul gene, Delta, sadly, did not. (Even then, quintessence transitions are tricky.)

The ritual performed to do so causes extreme pain, and puts the ghoul subject to it out of commission. This process varies depending on the element they are transitioning to. Only the quintessence ritual requires the presence of other ghouls, and one cannot be sure what they do.

Mutations, well, there was only one instance of it occuring. (And FUCK YOU IM INCLUDING MY OC'S LORE IDC I AM CRINGE I AM FREE.)

Typically, summoning rituals need no other animal, mammal, creature, or any being in the circle. However, there was one time where a mistake was made, and a spider crawled in there.

The ritual was attempted to be cancelled, however, it was too late, summoning a ghoul with the features of the same spider.

Mutated ghouls cannot glamour well, as their mutations cannot go under glamours.

Whether they were like this before or not, nobody knows.
