Just Like Heaven- Robin Buckley x Fem!Reader

Summary: After you and your boyfriend, Eddie, break up, you realise you like someone else, your best friend, Robin. Words: 4.6k Warnings: slight angst, coming out, reader can be read as either bi or a lesbian

You sat at the table you’d set up in your trailer. The two plates of food and the candles. The only thing missing was the other person. Your boyfriend, Eddie, hadn’t shown up. He was meant to be here two hours ago but he hadn’t bothered to show. The worst part was from your own trailer you could see his and you could see he was home. But he was probably with her. You loved Chrissy, she was kind and sweet and you got on well with her. But you didn’t like how you were slowly being phased out for her. You and Eddie hardly hung out anymore, before you would spend nearly every day together but aside from school, you hadn’t seen him in weeks. You sighed, you knew your two coworkers and best friends would be just closing up work so you walked over to the phone and dialled the number for the video store. It rang for a few moments before it was answered.

‘Hi, this is Family Video, we're currently closed, please call back later.’ Steve said through the phone.

‘It’s me, Steve.’ You responded.

‘Oh, hey Y/N, what’s up? Thought you and Eddie were having dinner?’

‘So did I but apparently, he didn’t. Anyway, I could probably divide the food between three, so can you and Robin come over?’

‘Um, yeah we were just closing up so we’ll be there in 15 or so?’

‘Yeah, I’ll see you guys then.’

‘Cool, see you.’ You hung up the phone and grabbed another plate out of the cupboard, dividing up the two plates in front of you into three before reheating the food. You eventually heard a knock at the door and opened it up to see Robin and Steve standing there.

‘Hey, we bought your favourite movie.’ Robin said holding up the VHS in her hand.

‘Thanks, you guys are the best friends.’ You said hugging them as they entered your trailer. You handed them both plates and the three of you sat down on the couch to watch the movie.

After the movie, the three of you sat around laughing and joking. You were starting to feel better when you heard a knock at the door. You looked between Robin and Steve before standing up.

‘Please tell me you invited Dustin over.’ You looked over a Steve who shook his head. You sighed and opened the door to see Eddie standing there. You walked out of your trailer, closing the door behind you before crossing your arms and looking at him.

‘Hey, I’m so sorry. I just got caught up with stuff.’ He apologised, running his hand through his hair.

‘Chrissy. You got caught up with Chrissy.’ You corrected him.

‘Yeah, but it was just a deal, no big deal. We can still hang.’ He looked at you sweetly with his big brown eyes but you looked away, not wanting to give in.

‘A deal that lasted 6 hours? Do you actually think you’re that smart or that I’m that dumb?’ You scoffed at him.

‘No, I don’t it’s just- I was- it’s just you know-‘ He stumbled over his words.

‘It’s just that we’re over Eddie. I’m going to go spend time with the people that actually care about me.’ You told him. He tried to respond but you walked back into your trailer and took one look at Robin and Steve before breaking down in tears.

It had been a month and a half since you and Eddie had broken up and you hadn’t spoken to him since. He had tried to talk to you but you brushed him off. You were sad about losing your friendships with the other guys in Hellfire but it was just the cost of them being your boyfriend’s friends. You pretty much spent all your time with Robin and Steve, more so with Robin as the two of you were in school together. You enjoyed your time with Robin. You guys had been friends before but you pretty much only spent time with them at work, and your free time spent with Eddie. You realised that before you’d been kind of a shitty friend, not actually hanging out with them properly but you were determined to be a good friend and make sure you spent more time with them.

You were currently sitting at the band lunch table with Robin. You had started sitting there after you and Eddie had broken up. You didn’t really know any of the others but they had been okay with you joining them.

‘It’s just such a good book. I mean Burgess does such a good job at showing the true dystopia of the control of humanity and the movie is so good as well. It is so well done plus I feel like the 70s interior design in the films really adds to the dystopian vibe somehow. I think it’s the contrast of these bold designs to the true horror on screen.’ You listened to Robin ramble about her favourite film of the week.

‘We can watch A Clockwork Orange at our movie night tomorrow.’ You say as you pick at your food.

‘Oh my god, yes, oh but I’ll just talk through the whole thing because I’ll just get excited about it.’ She said looking down.

‘That’s fine. I like to hear you talk. I mean Steve will get annoyed, oh but he can’t make it tomorrow, he mentioned it but I forgot, so it’s not big deal.’ You shrug. You did like hearing her talk, you liked how passionate she was about stuff and how she could just talk for hours. And she always looked so cute when she did. Wait, cute, you thought Robin was cute? You felt a feeling grow in your chest. It was the exact same feeling you felt when you started crushing on Eddie. Oh my god, you had a crush on Robin.

You practically burst through the door of Family Video as Steve looked up in shock.

‘Robin isn’t here right?’ You asked him as you swung your legs over the counter, throwing your bag down on the floor and grabbing your vest from under the counter where you kept it.

‘No, you know she’s not working today, what’s up with you?’ He asked looking at you concerned.

‘I’m really confused, Steve. I have no idea what to do and I need your help.’ You placed your head in your hands and sighed.

‘Okay, um. Don’t get back with Eddie.’ Steve nodded and you looked at him disgusted.

‘Ew, no. That’s over. It’s that I- well I- I think I have a crush on Robin.’ You blurt out, not looking at Steve.

‘You like girls?’ You could hear the shock in his voice but you still didn’t look at him.

‘Yes, no, I don’t know. I’m really confused, Steve. I just know that when I think about Robin I get this feeling in my stomach that I’ve only ever felt before with Eddie. I mean I always thought she was pretty, like when we worked at Scoops I thought she looked so good in the uniform but I figured that was like some sort of jealousy that she could pull off that hideous outfit but now I think it wasn’t jealousy, it was a crush. I mean she’s so beautiful and funny and smart and just perfect but I’ve never even looked at a girl that way before but maybe I have, I don’t know, it’s just-‘ Steve cuts you off by placing both his hands on either side of you and looking at you.

‘Stop talking, seriously.’ The serious look on his face makes you laugh as he moves away from you, going to scan some returns that had come in earlier.

‘Look, I don’t know how much I can help you. But I will say this, I care for Robin a lot and I know you do too, so don’t do anything until you’re certain because I don’t care that you're also my best friend, you use her as some sort of experiment and then leave her, I’ll kill you.’ Steve warns you and you can tell he’s serious.

‘I would never do that Steve.’ You say earnestly. You would never want to hurt Robin, even unintentionally which is why you came to Steve first because you knew if you kept this bottled up, you’d just keep going over it in your head until you exploded.

‘I know you wouldn’t, I trust you. But before you even figure out if you like Robin, you need to figure out if you even like girls. And you also need to restock these videos.’ Steve hands you the pile and nods, taking the videos over to the various shelves, deep in thought. How do you figure out if you like girls?

You weren’t listening to a word Robin was saying or focusing on the movie. Instead, you had spent the last hour just staring at her. She looked so beautiful from the side and you had to resist the urge to reach out and trace your fingers along her jaw. You really had to resist the urge to not lean over and kiss her jaw when she stretched her neck at one point. You knew you shouldn’t be staring at her, you should at least pretend to focus on the movie but it was like the floodgates had opened and now all you wanted was her. You saw a hand waving in front of your face and you blinked snapping out your thoughts. You saw Robin looking at you confused.

‘Umm, are you okay? You’re not paying attention to the movie. If you’re not enjoying it, we can turn it off.’ Robin said, concern on her face.

‘No, I love both the movie and the book, Rob. I’m just in my own head.’ You told her.

‘Oh, is it anything I help with?’ Robin said turning to face you and crossing her legs on your couch.

‘No, I don’t think there’s anything you can do. I’ve just got to work it out.’ You shrugged. You weren’t going to admit to Robin that you were pretty sure you were crushing on her.

‘Are you sure? Even if I can’t help, I can just listen if you want.’ She reached out and rubbed your arm to comfort you and you felt goosebumps appear on your skin where she touched.

‘It’s nothing. But thanks for being a good friend.’ You reach over and wrap your arms around her. She hugs you back, rubbing your back as she did. You try not to focus on the smell of her hair as you hug her, ignoring the feeling growing in your stomach at the feeling of her hands on you. You eventually pulled away and smiled looking into her eyes. You had to resist the urge to lean back in and kiss her as you looked into her eyes. Instead, you completely pulled back, flopping down on the couch, taking great interest in trying to get the last few popped popcorn kernels out of the bowl in front of you.

‘Hey, is it alright if I stay tonight? I need a ride into work tomorrow and Steve has stuff to do before his shift so I thought I could stay here and then you could give me a ride?’

‘Umm, yeah that’s fine.’ You gulp. Tomorrow was your day off but you didn’t mind giving her a ride to work, the problem was sharing a bed with her. You didn’t know how to act normal when you were sleeping in a bed next to her. It wasn’t as if you’d never shared a bed before, Robin had stayed over 100s of times before, but this was different. You were crushing on her now and you didn’t know how to act. How could you lie next to her the whole night without acting on your feelings?

Robin got out of your car and headed into Family Video where Steve was already behind the counter. She waved as she walked behind the counter.

‘So how was movie night last night?’ Steve asked as he leaned against the counter.

‘Weird. Y/N was really weird last night.’ Robin frowned as started typing the returns into the computer.

‘Really what was she doing?’ Steve says looking at Robin with concern./

‘I don’t know, she was just completely tuned out and then she kept staring at me. Then I stayed over which I’ve done before and she got into bed and lay there like a brick not moving at all.’ Robin looked at Steve with a frown and Steve almost felt guilty for a moment for not telling Robin what you had told him.

‘Maybe she’s got something going on? Why don’t you talk to her and ask?’

‘I did but she just said it was nothing!’ Robin exclaimed. ‘I’m worried she found out that I have a crush on her and now she doesn’t want anything to do with me.’

‘Wait, you have a crush on Y/N?’ Steve exclaims. ‘I thought you liked Vickie?’ He had no idea that Robin had liked you but it all made sense. She acted differently around you than she did anyone else. Now he knew that both his best friend’s liked each other but didn’t know what to do.

‘I thought I liked Vickie but that was just a crush, with Y/N, it’s different. I can’t stop thinking about her and when I’m with her I feel all light and airy.’ Steve nods, he definitely understood that feeling.

‘Are you going to tell her?’ Steve asked leaning against the counter.

‘Absolutely not. I mean she’s straight for one thing and for another we work together and she’s one of my closest friends so I don’t want to mess things up with her.’ Robin frowned. She wished you would tell her the truth about what was going on with you. It felt like you didn’t trust her and she hated that idea.

You sat on the steps of your trailer smoking a cigarette. Your dad was at work and your mom was out with friends so you were alone. You’d also been avoiding Robin for a few days. Ever since the movie night, you’d gone out of your way to not speak to her at school and when you’d had shifts with her you interacted with her as little as possible. It pained you to see the upset look on her face when you avoided her but you didn’t know what you were meant to say to her now. You’d accepted that your crush on her wasn’t just a passing fancy, that it was real and you did like her. Except, now you had to figure out what to do and how to act around her. Until you did that though you were avoiding her. /

You looked up when you saw that Eddie had come out of his trailer. He was another person you were avoiding, although you didn’t feel as guilty about that one. You hadn’t seen him with Chrissy since the two of you had ended things. If fact the two of them seemed to be completely avoiding each other as well. You felt yourself tense as you saw Eddie was heading your way. You felt like quickly stubbing out your cigarette and running inside but he knew you’d seen him.

‘Hey.’ He said once he was in front of you.

‘Hi.’ You said not looking at him. He sat down next to you, lighting up his own cigarette and taking a drag.

‘I miss you.’ Eddie eventually said and you snorted. How could he say that to you after what he did?

‘I missed you when you ignored me while were dating. I got over that feeling, you will do.’ You said, keeping your voice as neutral as possible.

‘I’m sorry for that.’ You glanced over at him and you saw tears welling in his big brown eyes. You looked away.

‘What do you want, Eddie?’ You sighed.

‘I want you to hear me out. I thought I wanted Chrissy but the truth is, I didn’t. I was just scared about how much I loved you and I pushed you away. The second you weren’t there I was miserable, I have been miserable since we ended things. So please, please give me a second chance.’ He begged you, reaching over and gripping your hands. Your head was reeling. You had moved on and now Eddie was back.

‘Eddie, I’m sorry but I like someone else.’ You say pulling your hands away from his.

‘I- what? Who?’ Eddie ran his fingers through his hair.

‘It doesn’t matter Eddie. Even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t take you back. I could never trust you again.’ You took a final drag from your cigarette and stubbed it out on the step beneath you, throwing the butt on the floor and standing up.

‘Is it Steve?’ He asked eventually.

‘No, it’s not Steve.’ You frown.

‘Well, the only two people I’ve ever seen you with are him and Robin, and it’s not like you have a thing for Buckley.’ Eddie snorts. You tense, before opening the door to your trailer.

‘Don’t bother me again, Eddie.’ You step inside your trailer and slam the door behind you. You sigh, leaning against the door. Why did he have to bother you now? You heard a knock at the door and let out an annoyed groan.

‘I thought I told you- oh Robin.’ You say throwing the door open and seeing Robin standing there, her bike leaning against the side of your trailer.

‘Why have you been avoiding me?’ She says pushing her way into your trailer. ‘Because we’re meant to be best friends but now you don’t even talk to me and I’ve been wondering what I’ve done because I miss you a lot.’ Robin spits out without taking a breath. You look at her and feel incredibly guilty for avoiding her, the sad look in her beautiful blue eyes breaking your heart.

‘Robin.’ You say reaching out and taking her hands in your own. ‘I’m so sorry. You haven’t done anything wrong, I’ve just been dealing with something and because of that I avoided you.’

‘What is it? I can help you if you tell me what it is.’ She looks deeply into your eyes and you felt your heart swell.

‘I can’t tell you, Robbie, I’m not ready yet. But I’ve been a terrible friend and I’m sorry. And I promise it’s nothing you’ve done.’

‘Of course, I totally understand. If you ever want to talk about it, I’ll be there.’ She pulls you into a hug and you wrap your arms around her waist. She strokes your hair as she hugs you and you relaxed in her arms, feeling a feeling of comfort wash over you. She pulls away from you slightly and you lift your head up off her shoulder, looking into her eyes. You start to lean in your heart beating loudly but at the last second, fear takes over and you kiss her cheek instead. You pull away from her, running a hand through your hair.

‘Umm, I’m going to go now.’ Robin stuttered out. Heading towards your door and pulling it open.

‘Yeah, I’ll see you around.’ You wave awkwardly.

‘Bye.’ She muttered out practically running out of your trailer and jumping on her bike. Well, if things weren’t awkward before, they’re definitely going to be awkward now. /

Steve was tired. For the past week, you and Robin had both been avoiding each other. You were both asking him to switch shifts so you didn’t have to see each other. The worst part was neither of you would tell him what had happened. But with the extra work, combined with his two best friends avoiding each other, he was exhausted. So, he orchestrated a plan. You and he were working this evening but he had called Robin saying you were feeling ill and he needed her to fill in. She had agreed and his plan was set in motion.

He greeted you when he came in and then told you some tapes in the back needed sorting. You agreed and headed through to the back, sorting out the tapes that were piled up. A few moments later Robin walked in and Steve gave her the same story, so she headed through to the back room as well. As soon as she stepped in, she realised that you were there and turned to leave but Steve quickly shut the door, locking it with the set of keys he had. You spun around and stared at Robin in shock, wondering why the hell she was there.

‘I’ll let you both out when you talk about whatever’s bothering both of you.’ Steve yelled from the other side of the door. Your eyes widened and you immediately tried the handle but you were definitely locked in. You sighed and looked at Robin awkwardly waiting for her to start the conversation.

‘Hey.’ Robin eventually said, weakly as you both avoided eye contact with each other.

‘Hey.’ You responded not knowing what else to say. How did you tell your best friend that you were completely head over heels for her? Although it would probably be easier for you to tell her the truth rather than the other way around. Robin didn’t even know you liked girls. You still hadn’t figured out how to tell her.

‘I missed you.’ She mumbled and you looked at her, her blue eyes filled with pain. ‘I’m just so confused.’

‘I know, I’m sorry Robbie.’ You move closer to her and took a deep breath. You had to tell her the truth, even if you didn’t want to. It would change your friendship forever but at least it wouldn’t be like this, it wouldn’t be this awkward hell that the two of you had been living in for the past week.

‘Y/N, I don’t understand, I- I-‘ Robin stumbled over the words, not sure what to say to you.

‘I like girls.’ You blurted out. It was the first time you’d said it out loud. Even when talking to Steve you hadn’t admitted it but Robin was different.

‘But you dated Eddie for years. Why have you never told me this?’ Robin looks at you in confusion.

‘I didn’t know I like girls until recently. After me and Eddie broke up, things changed for me and I started to-‘ You cut yourself off, trying to figure out how exactly to word this. Did you tell Robin the truth or did you skirt around it? ‘I realised I had feelings for you, Robbie. I didn’t know what to do at first which is why I was so awkward around you, especially because I’ve never liked a girl before but I don’t care about that. I know I like you and if you don’t feel the same I want to continue being friends if that’s okay with you. But I can’t keep going around in this awkward phase we’re currently in.’ You stopped speaking and looked at Robin who was staring at you, her mouth open like a goldfish.

‘Robin, please say something.’ You begged her as she stood there. It felt like this room was closing in on you the less she spoke. Eventually, she reacted, wrapping her arms around you and kissing you with such force that you stumbled back. You struggled to keep yourself upright and both of you fell to the floor. You looked at Robin for a second in shock before you both started laughing hard.

‘Sorry.’ Robin said between laughs, her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. ‘I’ve just liked you for so long and I’ve wanted to do this for months. I couldn’t figure out what to say so I just reacted.’

‘It’s alright, just maybe give me some warning next time.’ You say, glancing over at where she sat on the floor.

‘Next time?’ She looked up, her blue eyes glowing with hope.

‘Yeah, next time. Which could be right now?’ You ask, hoping that she’ll say yes. She doesn’t respond, instead, she just nods her head. You reach over, cupping her cheek in your hand and adjusting yourself so you could lean over and place a gentle kiss on her lips. Her hands moved to your neck, as she kisses you back softly. It’s a sweet kiss, and like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Her lips are the softest thing you’ve ever felt and you were pretty sure kissing her was the only thing you ever wanted to do. Eventually, you pulled away, resting your forehead against hers as you took deep breaths, trying to recover from how perfect her lips had been against yours.

‘Wow.’ Robin said and you let out a little laugh. You pulled away even further so you could see her face fully, your hand still planted firmly on her cheek while your other one supported your weight.

‘Do you want to get out of here? Go grab some food?’ You asked, playing with a strand of her hair.

‘What about work? Shouldn’t one of us stay here and help Steve.’ Robin asked, leaning into your touch.

‘Screw Steve, he locked us in a cupboard so he deserves it.’ You grin at Robin.

‘I mean if he hadn’t done that we wouldn’t have confessed our feelings to each other and then I wouldn’t get to do this.’ Robin leaned in and pressed another kiss to your lips. This one was messier and more passionate. It was as if she was pouring every emotion she felt into it. You kissed back with the same ferocity, moving your hand to tangle in her hair so you could grip her head better.

‘Hey, I don’t hear much- oh.’ Steve threw the door open and looked at the two of you in shock as you pulled away from each other, standing up and giggling at the look on his face.

‘Hey, Steve.’ You laugh, reaching over and grabbing Robin’s hand in your own.

‘So are you two- umm, you know?’ Steve stumbled out, clearly uncomfortable about whatever he’d just walked in on.

‘Dating? Yeah, I guess we are.’ You smiled at Robin who pulled you closer from your joint hands.

‘Oh thank god. I don’t have to deal with you two being weird anymore.’ Steve said, breathing a sigh of relief before his eyes widen. ‘No, now you’re going to be weird in a different way. Like all coupley and shit and I’m going to be the third wheel.’

‘Aw don’t worry Steve, we’ll find you someone soon.’ You pat his face slightly as you walk past him, pulling Robin behind you. ‘Enjoy, work, we’re going to go to head out.’ You tell him as you drag Robin towards the door.

‘Umm no wait, one of you has to stay with me and help!’ He protests, following behind you. You reach the door and look towards Robin who just shrugs.

‘Should’ve locked us in a cupboard, dingus.’ She tells him, before pushing the door open and pulling you outside, both of you ignoring Steve’s shouts of protest.

‘I feel a bit mean.’ You turn to Robin and say once you’re out of the shop. ‘Although I’d rather spend time with you than work so not that mean.’

‘Plus he deserves it.’ Robin laughed, you looked around you and saw the street was empty, so you leaned in and pressed a small kiss against Robin’s lips pulling away quickly.

‘So where do you want to go?’ You ask, smiling at her as you walked along. You couldn’t believe how lucky you were.

I'm already seeing posts like "Eddie realizes what's wrong with his relationship with Marisol once he sees Buck and Tommy be so happy and perfect on their date, teaching him about what romance actually is." And can I. Can I just call bullshit for a minute. Because these are not serious people fr.

Eddie doesn't need to look at them to know what love is. He was married for almost a decade and at some point he and Shannon loved each other and had fun together. He canonically looks up to Bobby and Athena's relationship as something to aspire to (which is why he always goes to Bobby for relationship advice!!). He's had Hen and Karen in his lives since s2, an actual black lesbian couple who've been happily married for so long, and we know how enchanted Eddie is by them. We've seen him continuously give advice to Chimney about Maddie.

Like!! Eddie does not need to look at those two white men who are on a first date and have some big epiphany!! Especially when those two are only together because one of them quite literally sent Eddie to the hospital! My mistake, though, that's real romance 🙄

NO YOU ARE SO CORRECT. god. literally!!! especially the part where we’re ignoring all of eddie’s relationships outside of buck - AGAIN!

and can i just point out that the likelihood that he’s gonna watch buck and tommy be HAPPY on this date is very, very low? i’m pretty sure that what’s gonna happen is buck will start acting like a weirdo after eddie shows up because he doesn’t want eddie to know he’s on a date with a guy. that’s probably why eddie’s giving him that strange look lmao

okay but hold me like you scared to sounds so good already (they all sound so good tbh but this one piqued my interest lol) what's it about? and for the fanfic questions 32, 50 and J :))

@frappe-the-peppermint WE GOT ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ahem oh wow who said that. anyway ill do the questions first then get into fic discussion…

32) Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

i listen to SO MUCH MUSIC!!!!! it depends on what im wrting tbh but i just queue up a bunch of songs in my liked playlist and write and write until it ends or im no longer on that flow. and well my music taste is an absolute mess so there isnt any one definitive band or genre that does it for me (i only pay attention Sometimes) but i suppose artists like mitski and queen would be a decent summary of my taste 😅

50) How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

gravity falls, no stop. the first one that ever piqued my interest was versability (originally on ff.net me thinks) and god damn it HOOKED ME!!!! gravity falls was already getting me up but wow that just got me SO MUCH HIGHER. i have a few authors i started binge reading like thesnadger and pinesinthewoods, i started extracting fics from reccs from tumblr artists, soon discovered ao3, and never looked back. and as for writing fic,,,,, well frankly it was the search for the cure’s original form that got me GOING!!!! it originally had crappy ocs as the forefronters but i soon changed that lmao (im definitely not saying theyre bad in general, just those… no) and i wrote So Much For It on my notes app. i didnt realize i culd actually show people until way later, in which i did, and realized that it could actually be better. thats why i reversed back to part one, made the story a part two, scapped the ocs, and…now we’re here. i still love it and gravity falls, i dont really show it here anymore. i really should, man. i need to write for them again!!!! it still excites me!!!! and the prose that im weaving now,,,, id DEMOLISH THE GAME!!!!!!! :)

though i suppose if i had to pick one here…god its between time loop and presumed dead (and grief/moruning but idk if thats a trope so much as it is a theme). okay. its finally time for the brainwashing discussing of the fic ! i can tell you alllll about that story and it will be my pleasure sonny 🫡 its a very long story. but short verison in case you dont want to go on: its a Titanic epic . april 1912. iceberg. ive read a few that are AMAZING, but i wanted to write one that catered it allll to Me. it has lesbians, heaven sucking ass, flood parallels, and a king of the world AND draw me like one of your french girls scene. very nice 🔥

okay now its time for the long story. so a super super long time ago for a post i cant even remember (i really wanna find it 😭😭) i for someone reason went on a tangent about the titanic. i had just read this fic called sinking into the sea which was tbh VERY GOOD (and i would read it again fr fr ) but at the time, i was kinda bummed that aziraphale and crowley never actually Interacted when i had expected. aziraphale didnt even know crowley was there!!! it left me feeling melancholy, and realizing that all of the titanic fics ive ate up to that point didnt HIT hit the spot (i didnt find this after this realization, but again, theyre not even on the boat 🤧) so i was feeling a bit incomplete. i started ranting and ranting it was a wholeee wall of a text of what I would do with a titanic story and i realized oh wait i can Do Something with this because i haev free will and actual (somewhat) coherent skill. pepper jumped on the wagon, REALLY REALLY encouraged which i cant thank enough for, and….we’re here. its brewing. i had a very large interest in the titanic for a long time before this tbh, so being able to insert it into The Interest just JUMPSTARTED my brain and it still does to this day. now for the plot….

its 2020, a year after the apocalypse (no pandemic). anathema, newt, brian, crowley, and aziraphale have been assigned to plan adam’s 12th birthday party—they shenanigan, as you do. on the day of the party (adam’s birthday) anathema and newt find a chest in jasmine cottage’s attic full of titanic relics, including a pack of polaroid photos (handheld cameras did indeed exist in 1912, i checked !) which kinda might sort of have a photo of aziraphale and crowley!?!?! it was sent to them about six months before. but after the whole Second Volume fiasco, anathema just sort of wrote it off in that way and Hid It. but newt was curious, he found it, and god it was writtent his way wasnt it. (well, not by the nutter they were thinking of actually). anathema confronts them about itsoon after, and they all sit down to hear the story of the titanic in a sort of rose dawson beat. then its 1912—50ish years since the holy water incident and almost a century since the resurrectionists disaster. aziraphale has been assigned to take this trip to new york for Some Reason (we found out why later) and happened to invite crowley to come along to attempt to make amends after Allat (he really does feel bad, but he will NOT do the holy water thing yet </3) shit occurs, but history atlarge will not be rewritten. it does change their story, though. adding a sprinkle of interest in the device family line. agnes prophec(y)(ies), dancing on deck under the stars, playing cards with humans and winning by a Lot, aziraphale’s artistic skills are put to use at one point—ughghgufhits just so DEAR TO ME!!!!! and of course the conflict will come later, especially considering the religious connections to the titanic sinking—“not even God can sink this ship” type conversation 🥰 aziraphale can and will be made uncomfortable. its for the character development dont worry about it. i even have a playlist for this fic (it sorted by the way the tone shifts thru the story, some songs are silly but they had to stay). pep has also made some song covers to some of the songs that ive heavily connected to the fic and I REALLY FUCKING LIKED. LIKE A LOT. THEYRE AMAZING YOU SHOULD LISTEN IF YOU WANT TO!!!!

the point of all this is that i like titanic fics and im trying to throw my hat in the ring even if its just for me and my friend 🔥🔥 because while others have fed me, i havent seen ones that have documented like Every Single Day on the titanic that aziraphale and crowley would theoretically have as well as developing aziraphale and crowley’s relationship while taking into account whats happened before (insert the story into a part of the timeline seamlessly i think thats how i’d describe) AS WELL AS connecting the reason why the titanic was such a freak tragedy and how the world is not fucking fair instead of just “oh whoops the thing sank 😞” i want NITTY GRITTY DETAIL!!!!!! I WANT GUILT!!!!!!! I WANT CHAOS!!!!!!!! I WANT TALKING ABOUT GOD!!!!!!! I WANT AZIRAPHALE IN A MENTAL CRISIS!!!!! I WANT CROWLEY JUST WANTING TO FUCKING LIVE FUCKING PEACEFULLY!!!!!!! Be fr when was the last time lesbians got rep and weren’t passed over for men? We’re bottom of pile they don’t like us! And females going insane over m/m further pushes us into the dark do you even know how bad it is? Our shows get cancelled lesbians are normally top of the list for bury your gay tropes.

So does that mean that as a lesbian I am not allowed to like any mlm ship? The fact that shows with wlw couples are cancelled while shows with mlm couples are renewed again and again is a huge issue that should be discussed, I'm not denying that.

It bothers me a lot, it's tiring and frustrating.

But does that mean I can't root for a mlm ship or enjoy it? Here I am going to talk about my personal case, I am NOT trying to speak for other lesbians.

I am speaking only for myself.

90% of the queer content I consume is lesbian or sapphic. I don't consume as much mlm content because I'm not that interested in it and that's fine. The last time I saw something with an mlm couple was Bad buddy (which I loved by the way).

That doesn't mean I can't enjoy mlm ships or even straight ones because I think if a couple is well written I'm going to like it regardless of the gender of the characters ( That's why I also can't ship the lesbian version of a straight ship I don't like, they suck and will continue to suck for me regardless if they were both boys, girls or a boy and a girl. I don't like their story and I'm going to continue to dislike it no matter what).

Now back to my point, if you check my blog you'll see that I don't ship any other ship mlm from stranger things besides byler, none. I just don't care about them.

I like byler because I like their history, it resonates with me. Here I could talk about how beautiful I think their relationship is, how the special bond they have from the beginning of the show and their friendship, the fact how they always trust each other no matter what it's what makes me love them as much as I do and how a queer slowburn childhood best friends to lovers is just my cup of tea and go on for years and years about it but probably you don't wanna read that so...

As a queer person I see a lot of me in Will specifically and his struggles with his sexuality, I want him to be happy so much.

People want so badly to lump byler into the category of "ships mlm that straight girls fetishize" but sadly... they don't fit in there :/

The byler fandom is mostly made up of queer people, and a large percentage of those people are specifically queer women. So yeah, it really bothers me a lot when people call us lesbophobic or say we hate sapphic specially when

1)A lot of us are sapphic.

2) Some of those who say it are mlvns who just say it because it's about byler.

Mlvns using rovickie when they never gaf about them just to throw shit at byler doesn't sit right with me and it's not the first time they've used a wlw ship to attack bylers and call us lesbophobes. It also happened last year with the scripts polls.

They called us lesbophobes because we voted for the Mike and Will scene over the Elmax scene, we just voted for our ship scene. And what did these people do when the elmax script came out? They made it about their straight ship.

Again bylers are mostly queer people who are rotating for a queer ship so it doesn't make sense to me that gay people wanting a queer couple with main characters in a big show like stranger things to happen = lesbophobia????

i had to say something because i’ve been having a sexuality crisis too… i THOUGHT i was pan but the more i thought about it it evolved into a preference for women and then into me just thinking i’m a flat-out lesbian. it’s weird to come to terms with especially after i thought i knew what i was, and admitting i something changed is kinda weird to some of the people in my life. but blogs like this definitely make me feel comfortable with how i feel and make me feel a lot less alone.

actually real and seriously I think in season 6 Lila should come back to school as a brand new alter ego and absolutely NO ONE realizes it’s her except chloe but no one believes chloe and then Lila befriends marinette fr because she’s learned how to be sneaky

Did the MCU establish Shuri was lgbtq? Every fic I see of her has been girlxgirl and I get it bc I know everyone wants their shot at representation in fanfic with characters of their choosing regardless of what their cannon sexuality is. Like for example killmonger cannon in the comics is Demi sexual but aromantic. We still have fics for him (mostly hetero some homo) mostly bc he’s a hot character to fantasize about. I’m confused though bc I’m seeing back and forth that ppl are labeling shuri as queer bc of how she’s “appears” and lack of male love interests. Even though it’s clear in the writing she’s still young and identifying herself. Not everyone rushes to be in a relationship in their 20s. And also we only see her in BP where she’s younger and not the main character so the focus isn’t her love life and then a little in infinity war and endgame where there are high stakes. Who has time to be looking for a man when the world is about to be destroyed… I guess the part that irritates me the most is we’re still labeling sexuality by looks. She automatically is lesbian bc she wears track suits and makes lots of jokes and likes science (socially non fem things) versus it being bc that who she is. I would love for that representation to go to the actual lesbians in the movie ayo and neka. They already got screwed over with Disney giving us that lame ass forehead kiss to keep it “safe”. Idk I see it more and more now ppl pushing these labels on to folks who haven’t acknowledged themselves as a member or even supporter of the community and it’s like for what? So readers can twiddle their fingers under the blankets thinking of their fav character? Be fr half these ppl aren’t even on our team or at our parades/protests but y’all are lining up to project sexuality on them that they haven’t identified as. I’m prob thinking too much into it but ppl making sexuality a trend and a flavor like folks haven’t lost their lives or loved ones over it is crazy to me.

I never really thought much into it that way honestly. But I do get your debate on the matter and idk I feel like more so now there has been fics with Shuri that’s girl x girl I’ve seen fics from a while ago where it wasn’t that way but it could have something to do with the way she dresses or how she looks in her panther suit or how she carries herself in this movie. Everyone has their opinions on it but I feel like as long as no one is disrespecting the community in any way it’s okay to ship Shuri with a woman. Hell, she can be shipped with anyone it’s just fiction. What are y’all thoughts on this?

Crossdressing In Pokemon

You know about this, right?

Obviously if I bring up crossdressing in Pokemon you might think ‘well, yeah, there’s that one episode with James…’ and then maybe you kinda wonder about the times you’ve seen screencaps of Jessie in a suit. You maybe even remember the time Ash dressed up as a girl to sneak into a grass-type gym.

Thing is, it’s not two specific instances. In fact, it’s got an entire page on Bulbapedia, which you could go read, right now, if you wanted to, and if you don’t this article is going to largely be about that page, because I don’t have all the episodes of Pokemon or Japanese versions of the game to check.

Content Warning: I’m going to talk about crossdressing as a source of comedy that doesn’t treat it as a fundamental evil. I am going to talk about crossdressing as a form of ethically-neutral gender play, and not treat it like ‘a character crossdresses’ is itself a transphobic thing for media to do. This is a fraught area, especially when it comes to transphobic humour, and, as a cis guy, I want to be understood I’m not going to feel bad if you just step out of the conversation.

Spoiler Warning: I guess I’m going to run the risk of spoiling some twenty-five-ish year old episodes of the Pokemon anime. If you’re doing a full watchthrough and don’t want spoilers, that’s information you can act on I guess.

There’s a bunch of crossdressing in the Pokemon anime. The stuff that stands out the most in my mind is that the Team Rocket characters frequently show up in themed outfits where, for some reason or another, Jessie dresses in the masc-coded outfit of the pair and James in the femme-coded outfit of the pair. It seems a pretty obvious and harmless thing to me, where the delightfully useless villains are defined by doing things that are funny and silly, and also to highlight their supposed expertise at the art of disguise and subterfuge. You know, James is so good at disguising himself he’ll bust out a truly preposterous rack to do it.

(“but how” don’t worry about it)

And like, some people have helpfully documented each outfit and episode, but it’s not just James crossdressing. There’s also the masc-coded pokemon who dress as women, like Claydol and Meowth, who are both addressed with he/him pronouns. Though you know, maybe Meowth is a he/him lesbian, I’m not gunna give him guff no matter how he wants to cut that particular poffin. Then, sometimes but not always as a direct connection, Jessie also crossdresses, but you know, somehow a woman dressing in a suit doesn’t make anyone get all mad about it, like we’re not mad at girls for wearing cargo shorts (yet).

Thing is, only 11 episodes after James first threw on a skirt, Ash did the same thing, to get into a gym! And if you’re like me and mostly know this stuff from memories of the game, you might think ‘wasn’t this a gym for women only?’ and then have the moment of horror that oh no, this story had a story about a Sneaky Crossdresser Infiltrating Women’s Spaces, Oh No, Does This Suck? And good news! No it’s about Ash trying to get back into a place that threw him out because he, specifically sucks! It’s not gendered, it’s just that Ash is trash and then the story recognised that him attempting to sneak in as a girl would be difficult and also extremely impractical if that’s what he wanted to do.

This created the faux character ‘Ashley,’ or in the Japanese, ‘Satoko.’ And in several of the games (Crystal, the G1 and G2 remakes, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum), in Japan, one of the default names you can pick is Satoko. The crossdressing from the anime gets referenced in the games. Makes sense – after all, a bunch of the games have crossdressers in them – whether a character disguising themselves as other characters of other genders (like Janine or your Mom), Nursery Aide June crossdresses to have access to a woman-coded job (overseeing kids and young Pokemon). This is something he says while flirting with you, at least in the Japanese and French versions, but they cut the dialogue in English. Which suggests that in English there are unacceptable ways to present as a teacher, almost like June is completely right about need to present specifically in order to access the job he wants.

The thing is, we know that crossdressing in this context isn’t the same thing as being transgender. That is, thanks to the presence of Beauty Nova, we know that in the Pokemon games, the play experience that gets treated as elevated text, there’s someone who’s trans. She’s not a crossdresser, she’s not represented the way the crossdressing is, and that’s distinct.

If you don’t already know about Beauty Nova, first I guess you need to know about Archetypes. The trainers you meet in the world all are sorted into archetypes, which indicate (generally), a playstyle and an aesthetic. Black Belts for example, are represented by a man in a black belt and usually use fighting type or rock type Pokemon. The Beauty archetype – which Nova is – are all women. When you meet her, she remarks she used to be a Black Belt, and in English, calls this a ‘transformation.’ In the Japanese, what she says is closer to ‘the power of medical science is awesome, wouldn’t you say?!’ which explicitly links this to a medical process.

She’s trans. It’s not detailed, we don’t see the colour of her estrogen pills, but this tiny bit of text does everything it needs to in order to present a trans character in a way that neither detracts from nor demands anything from the story it’s in. There are people who argue against the presence of Nova, who try to find some way to argue against this position with what-ifs and kinda-sortas and actually-in-the-German.

As with so many of these things this is a negotiation. For example, it is an extrapolation of the information in the game presented here to see Nova and consider that she’s talking about having transitioned. You have to bring to bear the knowledge that Black Belts you see in the game are always represented by men, and understand what she calls a ‘transformation’ and parse together that information. The information from the Japanese version where you can integrate the knowledge she specifically links this to medical science, that becomes part of it as well. Whereas if you’re arguing that actually this doesn’t have to mean that, and it doesn’t really mean that, what you get to bring to the argument is the presumption that everyone around you is going to believe you’re as rock fucking stupid as you’re pretending to be.

I know crossdressing is something that makes people upset, especially in a sort of agnostic, not-looking-at-anyone-in-the-room-kinda way. Setting aside the dickheads, a lot of trans folk, especially a few years ago pre-pandemic, were energetically mad at the presence of Drag Queens on the media because of Drag’s specific imposition into how people perceived trans issues. And like, yeah that makes complete sense to me, I wouldn’t want someone three doors down from me answering the survey about my life, even if we do, as it were, live on the same street. And let’s not kid ourselves, there are a lot of dragsters who are pretty shocking about trans issues, especially because they’re close enough to something similar to assume they’re inside and informed. I understand the distress with the practicioners and I understand the irritation with the big media representation.

But that’s Drag, which isn’t all of crossdressing.

I’ve been thinking about this in the context of queering spaces. Decades ago, we had Bugs Bunny doing funny crossdressing malarkey, along with other Looney Tunes characters, and in many cases it was never something that diminished the character doing it, but was rather instead a sign of how clever they were compared to their opposition. There was a presence of crossdressing in the media that was allowed and playful and funny and okay, and what a thing the media could do without it being about imposing shame on the person doing it.

Thing is, in Pokemon, it’s all safe and it’s all playful. Jessie and James show up in disguises that fool Ash (sometimes) and don’t fool you, and it absolutely should be okay for that kind of thing to exist. People should be able to play with gender and play with presentations and for it to fall in a space so safe we show it up in kids’ shows. The games can mention and show crossdressing and even give you a way to consider yourself crossdressing if you want, and again, all of that is okay.

If it’s a performance, you should be able to play with it.
