Introducing the Gaymers+ Webring
Tumblr media
We're building an inclusive place for LGBT+ gamers and creators. And we'd love you to join.
Google is (literally, deliberately) cutting off traffic to the Indie Web. This is our way of trying to fight back. Right now it's a very small and embarrassing club of one – so we really need you to jump on board!
If you are a Queer creator with any sort of gaming website (including Tumblr blogs!), join today. It only takes a few seconds!

Join the Fictionfolk Webring
Are you fictionfolk? Do you have a personal website? We'd love to have you join our webring!
We've have yet to see anyone make fictionfolk webring, so we're filling the gap ourselves. Learn more on our website. We have more info there on what we're doing, how to join and even links to the resources we used to build everything.
What is a webring?
It's basically a collection of websites, that you can cycle through and view via a widget all the sites put up. This means, that by using our webring, you can easily browse through a bunch cool websites made by fictionfolk without having to scour the internet! Neat!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

💛 Webring Wednesday #4: Pixel Cuties Webring 💛
Pixel Cuties is a throwback dream for lovers and makers of pixel dollz—those tiny, highly detailed avatars that once ruled the early 2000s internet. This webring is all about reviving the charm of customizable pixel art characters, made with bases and dressed up in everything from fairy wings to platform boots. It's a perfect digital hangout for anyone who misses the glittery days of The Doll Palace or just loves the pixel-perfect aesthetic of the old web.
What makes Pixel Cuties feel so special is its vibrant sense of community and dedication to keeping the dollz hobby alive. The site feels like a scrapbook filled with love, nostalgia, and sparkles, where new members are welcomed with open arms and old-school creativity thrives. Whether you're a seasoned dollmaker or just discovering the scene, this webring offers a warm, pastel-hued welcome to one of the internet’s most adorable art forms.
Check it out here: https://pixelcuties.club/

How I feel when someone's 1990s-style personal site about some topic that they're passionate about has a huge list of links to other 1990s-style personal sites and web rings to even more

Dipped into the indie web-
plunged through webrings-
and unearthed...
an artifact!
youtube
this lived in my high-school e-mail chatrooms as a gif. It was often used as a reply for when we'd be sarcastically thrilled about something. such as: [time for a GROUP PROJECT!] <.gif> For Context: This was after they figured out how to block Skype from being downloaded to our laptops. They had fully integrated Google and dropped sitewide Microsoft Word, which many of us absolutely HATED bc it lacked all the fun customization options. The UPSIDE was that for the first time ever, an e-mail service was accessible through the school's firewall. Before that point, NO student laptop could access ANY e-mail service. SO that meant it was now possible for a gaggle of web surfers to show off their personal gif libraries. Common habits included: -Politely deleting some or all of the duplicate Reply tags. as in turning this ->RE:((RE:(RE:Title))) into this -> Re:Title. -Resizing your gif so it wasn't bigger than the window -Reserving the 'rarest' highly-specific gifs to use in that once-in-a-million chance where it could be perfectly in context. (like the jpgs from the Simpsons that appear, without fail, on my Dash) The pure euphoria from seeing [WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT???] as an immediate reply. Just-*chef's kiss*

Hey y’all, what’s a webring? I seem to remember them being more of a thing back in the day. Are they like a bbs?
You're right, they're kind of a 90s thing. They were particularly big on GeoCities. 😅
They seem to be having somewhat of a renaissance at the moment, because Google is cutting off traffic to small, indie websites to focus on pushing AI (they literally admitted it).
Basically, likeminded people (or people in the same fandoms) would join a ring, and all the sites in the ring would link to each other sequentially, with "Previous" and "Next" links. There would also be a central list of member sites you could browse, and sometimes a link to view a random site in the webring.
The obvious downside is that sites would shut down or fall offline, and the "ring" would be broken until someone noticed and put it back together.
Some fandoms did link exchanges instead -- basically an "I'll add you to my links page if you add me to yours" system. Sometimes it'd be in the form of a scrolling "Affiliates" box at the bottom of the page, with mini-banners linking to the different sites.
My idea kinda blends the OG webring (there's a central list of member websites, or at least there will be if I get any members 😭💔) with the scrolling Affiliates box, just to keep things simple. I also provide the scrolly widget, ready-made, so it doesn't require any maintenance by website owners.

💛 Webring Wednesday #3: Fediverse 💛
If you're a proud member of the Fediverse and have a personal site, the FediRing webring is the perfect way to connect with fellow fedizens across the open web! 🌐✨ This webring is all about linking the personal websites of Fediverse users, creating a decentralized, people-powered network that mirrors the spirit of federated platforms like Mastodon, Pleroma, and Misskey.
Just like the Fediverse stands as an alternative to corporate social media, the Small Web thrives on independent, self-hosted spaces where creativity and individuality shine. FediRing embraces this philosophy, bringing together bloggers, tinkerers, artists, and anyone else who believes in the freedom of the open web. If you've got a personal site and you're part of the Fediverse, why not join and weave your presence into this ever-growing network?
👉 Check it out: https://fediring.net
Are you a fedizen with a personal site? What are your thoughts on the connections between the Fediverse and the Small Web? Let's chat in the comments! 🚀💬
