An AU Idea where Tony was five when the Winter Soldier murdered his parents. WS broke through his programming and saved Tony. He raised the boy as his own while they ran - kinda like that fic : (can’t remember the title) - from HYDRA. At 15, Bucky has come back but he also realizes that he can’t stop hydra and when tony is 15, he leaves a note at the house they’re staying at, calls the police to come get Tony and leaves into the wood where he gets taken by hydra.
By this point - it’s the Siberia bunker but instead of attacking bucky after seeing the tape, tony goes after zemo. And then tony turns on bucky, angry and hurt.
“You know, it all makes sense now,” Tony laughed bitterly. “Why you left me and called the cops on us.”
Steve’s eyes widened, mouth dropping in surprise.
“Tony, I was -” Bucky tried to say but Tony got him off.
“You just felt so guilty for - for what?! Killing my parents and then taking their place?!” Tony shouted, waving his hands and raging.
Steve blinked rapidly, trying to catch up with the conversation happening in front of him as Bucky reached for Tony.
“Hydra was on our tail,” Bucy said softly, eyes a little wet. “I couldn’t get rid of them -”
“So you abandoned me?” Tony retorted, rubbing his eyes as his voice choked up.
“What, you would’ve rather been with Hydra?” Bucky ripped his hand away like he was burned and glared a bit at Tony. Steve’s mouth dropped open further at Tony’s response.
“Yes!” Tony screamed. “Yes I would have!” Bucky stepped back, visibly shocked.
Tony rubbed his eyes again and was fully crying now. “You left me by myself to be found by police and that was the day my life was ruined. I wasn’t Anton anymore I was Anthony! The lost son of Howard Stark! And you were gone!” Tony covered his face and turned away, fully sobbing now. “I was five. I was five and I didn’t know my parents were gone, all I knew was you. All I had was you! I - I called you Dad,” Tony’s voice broke and he slumped down.
Nobody moved.
Dad.
Tony’s voice rang in Steve’s ears as he tried to comprehend what had just happened.
Bucky finally moved, walking over and slowly putting his arms around Tony and holding him. Tony turned into Bucky’s chest, crying and holding onto him.

If my mom sees a significant amount of blood she gets lightheaded, and has fainted on some occasions. Once it happened when we were kids, I wasn't there to witness it but I heard the story from my dad. Basically my brothers, around 7 or 8 at the time, were playing outside while my mom was making their lunch, and she accidentally cut her finger. It wasn't anything serious, but it drew a fair bit of blood and she passed out. My dad saw this and rushed over, but he didn't really know what to do so he just sort of started slapping her to wake her up (not recommended, but he had no idea and panicked)
At that exact moment my brothers both came in from playing, and all they saw was our mom unconscious on the floor and our dad slapping her. So, like, without even saying a word to each other they both just INSTANTLY start whaling on him, like, full blown attack mode to defend our mom. Which obviously didn't help the situation, but she did wake up and everything was fine.
Now our dad says that he's actually really glad they attacked him over what they thought was going on, because it means he raised good boys. And I still think that's true, they're very good boys.

i appreciate the attempts a lot of game devs are making with gender neutral character creation, and i appreciate that it's actually a very difficult task to implement that depending on the game's base code. but it's so funny to me when you hear an uproar because some game has "entirely removed the gender option from character creation!!!!!" so you go to check it out and its just like

So usually when an imaginary friend is a real thing in a story, it’s either a demon or a ghost or some supernatural boogeyman that probably wants to eat the kid they’ve befriended (Mama, a couple of the Paranormal Activity movies), or “imaginary friends” are just treated as a real thing in the setting, and if a child just thinks hard enough they can manifest a friend into existence (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Happy).
And somewhere in the middle is an area where the imaginary friend in question is real and they are supernatural, but they aren’t malevolent, and they aren’t entirely honest about what they are. Like maybe they’re a fairy or a god or some kind of boggle from mythology, but they just got caught by a six year old and they don’t have time to get into it, so they just go “…Yes. I’m your imaginary friend. We haven’t met. How do you do.” And then they stick around because they do love this kid, and if you’re a boggle from mythology in the modern day good food is really hard to come by.
And at some level. That’s what I think Hobbes is.

So Venus is my favorite planet in the solar system - everything about it is just so weird.
Tumblr media
It has this extraordinarily dense atmosphere that by all accounts shouldn't exist - Venus is close enough to the sun (and therefore hot enough) that the atmosphere should have literally evaporated away, just like Mercury's. We think Earth manages to keep its atmosphere by virtue of our magnetic field, but Venus doesn't even have that going for it. While Venus is probably volcanically active, it definitely doesn't have an internal magnetic dynamo, so whatever form of volcanism it has going on is very different from ours. And, it spins backwards! For some reason!!
But, for as many mysteries as Venus has, the United States really hasn't spent much time investigating it. The Soviet Union, on the other hand, sent no less than 16 probes to Venus between 1961 and 1984 as part of the Venera program - most of them looked like this!
Tumblr media
The Soviet Union had a very different approach to space than the United States. NASA missions are typically extremely risk averse, and the spacecraft we launch are generally very expensive one-offs that have only one chance to succeed or fail.
It's lead to some really amazing science, but to put it into perspective, the Mars Opportunity rover only had to survive on Mars for 90 days for the mission to be declared a complete success. That thing lasted 15 years. I love the Opportunity rover as much as any self-respecting NASA engineer, but how much extra time and money did we spend that we didn't technically "need" to for it to last 60x longer than required?
Anyway, all to say, the Soviet Union took a more incremental approach, where failures were far less devastating. The Venera 9 through 14 probes were designed to land on the surface of Venus, and survive long enough to take a picture with two cameras - not an easy task, but a fairly straightforward goal compared to NASA standards. They had…mixed results.
Venera 9 managed to take a picture with one camera, but the other one's lens cap didn't deploy.
Venera 10 also managed to take a picture with one camera, but again the other lens cap didn't deploy.
Venera 11 took no pictures - neither lens cap deployed this time.
Venera 12 also took no pictures - because again, neither lens cap deployed.
Lotta problems with lens caps.
For Venera 13 and 14, in addition to the cameras they sent a device to sample the Venusian "soil". Upon landing, the arm was supposed to swing down and analyze the surface it touched - it was a simple mechanism that couldn't be re-deployed or adjusted after the first go.
This time, both lens caps FINALLY ejected perfectly, and we were treated to these marvelous, eerie pictures of the Venus landscape:
Tumblr media
However, when the Venera 14 soil sampler arm deployed, instead of sampling the Venus surface, it managed to swing down and land perfectly on….an ejected lens cap.

this whole oceangate submarine fiasco has actually led to a lot of interesting talks and debates about the grey area of human empathy vs the inclination to recoil at the bizarre behaviors of the ultra wealthy and how people struggle with both ideas and is actually very interesting to watch play out in different types of people

trans women are everywhere and are so eager to be seen and heard but only if they feel safe around you. if you hardly ever have trans women interacting with you, especially online, then consider there might be a reason for that and you should address it

if you've been to more than one, pick the one that's further down on the list. stopovers don't count unless you actually left the airport.
feel free to say how many / which ones you've been to in the tags!
