Welsknight x Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya)

For Wels I chose the original Saint Seiya anime, also known as Knights of the Zodiac!

I watched this show when I was pretty young, so I actually didn't remember much about the plot of this show when I started this piece. What I did remember is that I really enjoyed it. It felt like both a shonen and a magical girl anime (best of both worlds) and everyone had really, really shiny armor. And I mean, obviously I couldn't pass up the opportunity to reimagine Wels as a late 80s space knight in head-to-toe chrome!

Saint Seiya, or Knights of the Zodiac as I knew it growing up, is an anime from the late 1980s based off a manga series of the same name.

The story follows a young man named Seiya, who is part of a group of mystical warriors that wear magical armor (called Cloths) which pull power from (and are themed after) the constellations. The warriors fight for the goddess Athena to defend earth from evil.

One unique thing about the show is the characters don't usually have weapons - they are supposed to fight with only their Cloths and the power of the cosmos (it's a whole thing in the premise). However, Wels felt incomplete without the sword, so he gets to be an exception. :)

The anime is bright, campy, and action-packed but takes itself fairly seriously - basically exactly what you would expect from a classic shonen. The plot is divided into arcs but isn't too complex, so while it is best to start from the beginning of the show you can pick it up pretty quickly from anywhere if you're familiar with the genre.

Style references:

The designs for the knights - long fluffy hair is a requirement

The dramatic shine on all the armor is both iconic and very fun to draw once you get the hand of it

Knights of the Zodiac/Saint Seiya title logo. This is actually the logo from the ONA, not the original anime, but I think this font is way more fun so this is the one I used

THIS CHAPTER!! OUGH, I CANT. ITS SO ANGSTY BUT ALSO FLUFFY! Agh, i cant. This chapter made me cry, poor Guish D;

For context, I have read many sad and angsty of both books and fanfics and almost none of them made me cry except for a few. Rns is one of these. and on TWO OCCASIONS has it made me cry! (Once with Tanguish and Helsknight's fight and again with the stab :[ )

I love rns so much. I wish to shrink both Tanguish and Helsknight and put them in my pocket to keep safe. :[ my bois, my guys, my sillys.

I have no words but all the words all at the same time.

And yes I headcanon Tanguish aroace cuz man has no time (or thoughts) for romance, he is wanted dead by two different people.

Who are Xornoth, Worm, Equinox and Aurelius? I can't tell which hermits or empires members they're meant to refer to (like hotguy is scar, cuteguy is grian, Stratos Joel, etc)

Sorry if you've explained this before, but getting to those 4 designs I got so confused cause I had no clue who the frig they were aside from villain of empires season 1 and 3 randos.

Xornoth is Scott's brother (empires s1)

Worm is Wormman (from Hermitcraft, superhero character by Zedaph)

Equinox is Evil X (Xisuma's clone? Brother? Counterpart?? From Hermitcraft)

Aurelius is Helsknight (Hels counterpart to Welskight, from Hermitcraft)

I don't blame U for not knowing /recognising them! They're v minor characters but I love them SM so they're in the au

Red = Ren Dog = Rainbow Dash

Blue = Joe = Twilight

Green = Cleo = Spike

Yellow = Wels = Fluttershy

Orange = Scar = Apple Jack

Purple = Stress = Rarity

and this is just the crew for when grian and mumbo are luna and celestia.

We've also got:

Tinfoilchef, who can only cook well if tinfoil is used

xBcrafted, who can spontaneously create bees but only along the X axis

And Geminitay and Pearlescentmoon, who are only visible at certain times of year or month and if the cloud cover isn't too heavy

Sounds like an interesting cast of neighbours to me!

so projection time!! Welsknight has a really bad lazy eye and he needs to wear glasses for it but he doesn't very often bc he doesn't like the aesthetic and wearing for long amounts of time makes him over stimulated Jevin will steal his glasses when wels is not wearing them becuase he likes the way it looks on him.

(totally not how me and my friend act with my glasses,, nooo)

There are so many rns doodles I have.... this isn't even half of the Tanguish’s and Helsknight's I've drawn.

I also did a chalk Tanguish and Helsknight buuuutttt I only got a picture of Tanguish before the rain came :[[ (it was a good Helsknight too >:c *grumble grumble*)
