Messenger’s Rest

—a soft caregiver!Hermes drabble inspired by Epic: The Musical—

You’re curled in on yourself again. Small. Quiet. Too many thoughts crowding your mind, like ink spilled across a page. But even in the haze, you feel it—

That hush of wind.

That shimmer of light.

That voice.

“There you are, little star.”

It’s him.

Hermes.

His tone is gentle, musical in that way only he can pull off—like poetry wrapped in velvet. He doesn’t make you speak. Just kneels beside you on the floor where you’ve nestled yourself in blankets and half-stuffed pillows. His presence is like the breeze before a summer storm—charged, alive, but careful not to shake the branches too hard.

“Thought I might find you here,” he says, brushing a knuckle against your cheek with feather-light care. “Tucked away like a verse I haven’t finished reading yet.”

You don’t answer, but you nuzzle into the touch. That’s all he needs.

Without a word, he folds himself beside you. His coat pools around the both of you, and a wing—not just metaphor now, real and warm—wraps around your back like a weighted blanket made of stardust. You hear the faint jingle of the golden chain at his neck as he moves.

"Your mind's been running sprints again, hasn't it, lovebug?" His words are soft, teasing only at the edges. “Always trying to outrun feelings instead of letting me carry a few.”

You sniffle. Shrug. Maybe.

Hermes hums, the sound low and soothing, like the first few lines of a lullaby. He reaches into his satchel and pulls out your favorite plushie—how does he always know?—and your sippy, filled with something cool and fruity.

“There we go. Hydration and hugs. Doctor’s orders,” he grins, pressing the cup into your hands and guiding it gently to your lips. “Can’t deliver sweet dreams on an empty tummy.”

You drink slowly, eyes flicking up to his. There’s no rush there, no pressure. Just patience. Just love.

“You don’t have to be big right now,” he murmurs. “Not with me. You can be soft. You can be quiet. I’ll speak loud enough for both of us, if you need.”

He pulls you into his arms fully then, your head resting on his shoulder, the beat of his heart steady beneath your cheek. He rocks you gently, back and forth like a metronome, voice a whisper meant only for you.

“I’m your messenger, sweet pea. And I’ve got a note from the universe just for you:

You’re safe. You’re loved. You’re not alone.

Not ever. Not while I’m here.”

And with his warmth around you and his words holding you close, you start to believe it.

we need to go back to judging BL/yaoi fans by whether or not they can handle Ai no Kusabi

lemme be clear: you do not have to LIKE Ai no Kusabi. but can you handle it.

can you handle a dark story that is fundamentally about the complexity of human emotions within abusive power dynamics, which are not just maintained but in fact demanded by a dystopian social structure that dehumanizes everyone within it?

can you handle morally complex characters who do fucked up, awful things to each other both out of malice and a dysfunctional desire to connect to another human being?

can you handle being expected, as the reader, to comprehend these nuances to the setting, while also being compelled by the plot to feel compassion for the tragic characters trapped in its doomed narrative?

can you handle navigating the uncomfortable intersections between hate, lust, love, and abject loneliness?

can you handle when a social class is literally called the Blondies and you just have to, like, accept that and take it seriously?

can you handle a cockring being a serious plot device?

You tug on my sleeve with those wide, eager eyes, and I already know what you want before you even say it. “Dada, pillow fort?” you ask, your voice sweet and hopeful. How could I ever say no to that?

I smile and ruffle your hair. “Of course, sweetheart,” I say, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Let’s make the biggest, coziest pillow fort ever.”

And so, we get to work. I let you pick out all the fluffiest pillows and the softest blankets, piling them up in the middle of the living room. You giggle as I hold up a blanket like a grand tapestry, draping it over the chairs we’ve lined up as our walls. You crawl inside, testing the space, and I watch as you snuggle in, your eyes shining with excitement.

I join you, adjusting the blankets to make sure no cold air sneaks in, and soon, we’re surrounded by warmth and softness. Our own little world, safe and hidden away. I tuck you under my arm, and you nuzzle in close, your small body fitting perfectly against mine.

“What should we watch first?” I ask, stroking your back gently.

You hum in thought before whispering the name of your favorite movie. I reach for the remote and press play, the soft glow of the screen illuminating our little hideaway. The familiar opening tune plays, and I feel you relax even further against me, your fingers lightly gripping my shirt.

As the movie plays, I whisper little comments, making you giggle, and every time I hear that sweet sound, my heart melts a little more. I trace gentle patterns on your arm, feeling you slowly unwind, the steady rhythm of my breathing lulling you into a peaceful calm.

Halfway through, I notice your blinks getting slower, your little hand resting heavily against my chest. “Aw, is my baby sleepy?” I murmur.

You nod against me, barely awake, and I press another soft kiss to your hair. “Then rest, my love. I’m right here.”

The movie continues, its soft sounds wrapping around us like another blanket. I feel the slow rise and fall of your breath against me, your body completely at ease in my arms. I hold you a little tighter, cherishing this moment, this warmth, this love.

The world outside may be big and busy, but here, inside our little fort, it’s just us. Safe. Cozy. Together.

And that’s all that matters.

Gets really REALLY really defensive when she’s slipping, always the same phrases, “I’m not slipping!” Or, “I’m not little! Just sleepy.”

Main caregivers are Gi-Hun and Ji-Yeong. (Yes. They are alive for the sake of this headcanon😭)

It’s very obvious when she’s regressed, goes nonverbal and gets really clingy.

Nicknames: Sniffles, Byeoki, Yoki, or Grumpy pants. (Last one was def by Gi-Hun.)

She was definitely regressing in her last scene ,,, definitely.

Doesn’t like sucking on her thumb or such, will only find objects or pacifier if feeling the need.

When she’s sick/feeling hurt, little Sae-Byeok definitely bottles it up to the last minute until she starts slightly bawling her eyes out.

She always tends to hide behind new people when she regresses, it doesn’t do her Justice because she’s super tall. (Clinging to the shirt and everything.)

makes such killer stories for her older regressors though!! i feel like she’s just naturally good at telling stories so she’d go with the flow.

her diaper bag has so so so many toys! (with much more medical supplies like bandaids, gauze, she’s prepared).

if she saw regressor cry over anything, even something silly, she feels so empathetic, cuddles and hugs n kisses everywhere. avid believer of crying it out helps oh so much.
