I’m Reading the Drizzt Novels and You Can’t Stop Me: Sojourn

I did not actually put this off because it is the weakest of the Dark Elf Trilogy, though it is, nor because we then get the "hey remember how at one point Wulfgar was supposed to be the hero before we realized he had rocks for brains" Icewind Dale trilogy; I just was reading other books. Anyway. On to the next one.

Drizzt is still desperately lonely on the surface, which he reached at the end of Exile, and also the sun hurts and his magic items are degrading in the sunlight because the drow magic is somehow different than good sunlight magic. I don't know why. D&D! This will continue to be a theme. Anyway, he also doesn't know Common and so the first half of the book is him bouncing around not knowing how to talk to anyone but goblinoids, who, as we know, are ontologically evil as of this time in D&D's storied history of fantasy racism. Anyway the plot is rather well-made in terms of getting things to happen sequentially, but it does get kind of maudlin. The series of unfortunate events befalling our lavender-orbed hero are thus:

Gets really sad and desperate and also sprayed by a skunk -> goes to hang out with a band of gnolls

Gnolls plan on attacking a human family. Drizzt kills them. He regrets this. Then he starts watching the family (*FCG voice* not in a creepy way) and concludes he was right to save them.

One of the children, Liam Thistledown, a halfling-ass name if ever there was one, runs into Drizzt in the woods near the farm. Drizzt introduces himself. Liam goes off running yelling "DRIZZIT". His family doesn't believe him, but he convinces two of his siblings to join him and his older brother Connor, who, in a twist from the hit series Succession is considered trustworthy, confirms this is a dark elf who is therefore Evil. The villagers discuss what to do, and someone who is named, and I am not making this up, Roddy McGristle, decides it's Drow Season.

Drizzt is quick and evades most people but a quickling named Tephanis who is working for twin barghests forces him to give up his position to Roddy McGristle, stop giggling. Drizzt is forced to injure him and kill one of his two hunting dogs to escape.

Tephanis tells its master, Ulgulu, the bigger barghest, that Drizzt killed its gnoll servants who were helping it feast upon the village and so now there's two groups after Drizzt: Roddy and also the barghests. BTW the barghests are described in a way where Mr. Salvatore is definitely trying to convey very crunchy early D&D mechanics in prose with varying degrees of success.

The barghests slaughter the Thistledown family and frame Drizzt. Drizzt is distraught, everything he touches is cursed, etc etc. I feel like I'm being very dismissive and I'm not, he does genuinely have an awful and lonely time, but this does keep happening.

The mayor, seeing that Roddy "the body" McGristle WWE fighter and/or adult entertainment star failed, calls Dove Falconhand, known ranger and, if she'll have me, my wife. She is apparently a chosen of Mystra so all you BG3-heads can tell me what this entails. Anyway Dove and her pals, who include an elf named Kellindil, a fastidious little dwarf named Fredegar "Fret" because on GOD we're cribbing from LOTR in this bitch, and two forgettable humans, answer the call and head towards the town. In their investigation, they suspect Drizzt was NOT the murderer but Roddy harbors a grudge. They go to find the real killers. Roddy joins them, despite the fact that they hate his vibes.

Drizzt meanwhile is seeking vengeance on the Thistledowns and gets it. He kills Ulgulu and his twin, who has a name but it's truly not important. He rejects an alliance with Lagerbottoms, a giant allied with Ulgulu, and starts on his way, feeling he's ruined enough lives here. He does encounter Kellindil, and leaves, which leads Kellindil to believe Drizzt is perhaps not evil and out to kill him as most drow, to be fair, are. Drizzt later helps the group with a giant ambush from afar and is badly wounded, which leads Dove to agree with Kellindil. They leave some healing potions for Drizzt. Roddy, however, harbors a grudge. He continues the hunt.

There's a lot of slow travel and Drizzt surviving in the wilderness. This part is funny when you realize that Dove and Kellindil basically become wildlife biologists trying not to interfere with Drizzt too much but also hoping he stays alive. Drizzt figures out how to start fires and stays in a cave with a big-ass bear named Bluster, who leaves him alone. At one point, Drizzt wonders if the sun is going to go away forever, so from this we can include that even people raised in eternal darkness get seasonal affective disorder.

When spring comes, Drizzt starts wandering off and encounters some orcs, who do not like him. He is helped by Montolio "Mooshie" DeBrouchee, who is for legal reasons not Quebecois but definitely is. Mooshie is yet another mentor for Drizzt who follows a particular pattern - older, male, disabled (blind; he has Daredevil powers basically, it's great) (or in Zak's case just super depressed), and awesome as hell. He teaches Drizzt Common and Ranger Stuff and says some extremely dope shit about Mielikki, his goddess, and generally gives rangers the vibe of like, a paladin of nature, which is very cool and makes you wonder why the flavor got so diluted by 5e. The musings on the nature of god are also surprisingly good for a silly D&D book from like 1991; Drizzt and Mooshie are like "are all gods just aspects of one thing? is Mielikki real or simply the love we have in our hearts for living things? who cares it's useful to have a name to call her or them or it" and so on that basis alone I recommend this.

Unfortunately Drizzt is not yet permitted emotional healing in full (though he's doing much better); Tephanis and Roddy find him, and ally with the orcs. This is a REAL dick move from Roddy; Mooshie is a respected ranger. They and the orcs attack but Drizzt and Mooshie are aware thanks to Ranger Skills and Mooshie's cool owl buddy named (sigh) Hooter and do an entire Home Alone setup in advance and then simply win due to Drizzt's small magics and both their skill with weaponry. Oh I forgot, Drizzt gets new scimitars that aren't drow make and won't break in the sun, though they're not his goofily named eventual ones.

Roddy survives. Kellindil captures him. Tephanis frees Roddy, who kills Kellindil. He also tells Roddy Drizzt died.

Mooshie dies in the spring of old age.* Drizzt leaves, as the grove isn't the same.

time skip during which Drizzt tries to find a place that will accept him, but can't; the death of Kellindil is really an elegant way to force this, I must admit.

Drizzt falls in with some really annoying friars who are a mix of people who are genuinely unwell and people who are just scammers, but they tolerate him because he protects them. He does not enjoy this.

Roddy learns that Tephanis lied when someone else mentions Drizzt. He is mad at Tephanis but continues to stalk Drizzt.

There is a whole scene in some tunnels headed towards Icewind Dale with a dragon named Hephaestus that frankly feel like they were written to get to a certain word count slash evoke LOTR even more, but Drizzt outsmarts a (to be fair, fucking stupid) dragon with his wits and his purple eyes and leaves for Icewind Dale. The reason he has to do this outsmarting is a Tephanis Plot. Roddy then kills Tephanis for going against his plans.

Drizzt is turned away from the towns of Icewind Dale, but the spokesman of the largest town tells him he can go up by Clan Battlehammer's grounds and serve as a ranger. Drizzt agrees.

Cattie-brie, who is great although in this book she is like 9 years old, notices Drizzt and talks with him. She reminds him of Liam Thistledown. This won't get weird when she develops a crush on him several books later, I'm sure.

Bruenor Battlehammer, whom you may recognize from the first few pages of your PHB, is Cattie-brie's adoptive father. He gets mad at her for talking to the drow, but eventually he too comes around on Drizzt not being evil. Before he does so, he realizes that Drizzt may be a drow but Roddy FUCKING SUCKS (after Roddy comes to ask about Drizzt).

Cattie-brie goes to ask Drizzt if he really killed the Thistledowns as McGristle said he did. He tells her he didn't, but he'll leave if Bruenor wills. McGristle shows up and grabs Cattie-brie and Drizzt fights him but will not kill him. This angers McGristle who is one of those kinds of villains, so Drizzt knocks him out. Bruenor finds and banishes him and then finally welcomes Drizzt.

This was super long and of my notes the only one I think is funny is "shorty had them Lagerbottoms jeans" so you can have that; I'm going to be less long-winded for the Icewind Dale books because they are not very good. The ones after that are much better.

*anyone know the limerick "There was a young fellow named Hall" because this reminded me of that.

Hiya! I absolutely adore your writing; I’m horrible with words but it feels so.. alive? Like it feels like I could ask you questions for days about the characters and the world and you’d have an answer for all of it. I mean, it’s probably not true, but I’ve never really felt that way about any kind of story before so naturally I’ve just been reading and rereading your stuff ever since I found ya. Im very normal about it. Very very Normal.

(Your hot rod in particular, oomf. That’s HIM that’s my BOY!!! You Get Him and I am so glad you do because it’s So Hard to find really good roddy content.)

And don’t feel inclined to answer this last part if you don’t want to, but!! Are there any brainworms/headcanons/etc you’d like to ramble about? I’d love to hear about it!

Aw, thanks so much for your kind words, and for coming and letting me know; you've put a right smile on my face :)

Hm... as for headcanons and brainworms... well, first off, I don't tend to have solid headcanons for many characters, simply because I like to take their core personality and reinvent them depending on the situation I've landed them in in any particular fic. I feel that this frees me up from getting too stuck in trying to make a square peg fit a round hole if I don't have the ability to let something that was true about a character in one fic change for another, however there are some personality and interest traits I keep similar.

My version of Hot Rod | Rodimus Prime tends to be quite charismatic. And very uneasy about his own charisma, because when people follow you and you make mistakes, they then tend to blame you even if they chose to follow. This is especially prevalent in IDW versions of him that I write, and is another layer in his insecurity over whether or not he can make good leadership decisions.

My version of Hot Rod | Rodimus Prime also tends to have an interest in people and the ways that they live, which is expressed through interests in history, anthropology, religion, etc. By no means is he an academic, or conducting research, but he likes to hear about different ways of life and how and why people are the way they are.

Neurodivergent Cybertronians! One, they absolutely exist, and two, IDW Minimus Ambus (in my works, at least) is autistic. Or, like, the mechanoid equivalent. I myself am autistic so I feel comfortable writing him as such. And now the obligatory "everyone's experiences are different, it's a wide and varied spectrum so it won't necessarily be reflective of your own personal experiences" sentence. (Addendum: yes, Rodimus gives off ADHD vibes as well and I'm hardly the first to headcanon that.)

Now this one's a bit more controversial, but in the post-IDW "The Lost Light disappears into an alternate universe" ending, Rodimus and Megatron absolutely form a strong bond with each other. There's a lot of canon moments and comments from them about the influence (and the ups and downs, yes) that they've had on each other - Megatron keeping the Rodimus Star close while stuck in the Functionist Universe, and Rodimus saying that they work best together, just to give a couple of examples - to justify the groundwork for a deep connection. Given time and effort on both sides, I believe that they would end up rather close.

Again, more controversy, but I also believe that a lot of the initial Dratchet (Drift/Ratchet) foundations were built upon what they wanted each other to be (to themselves, in their life, etc.), rather than who they really were. Now, this is absolutely not a hate on Dratchet, because the pairing has a lot going for it, and if written well then I like to read it, but I also believe that a lot of honest communication had to go in off-screen for it to work out (which it canonically did!), and that we just didn't get to see that part.

As for brainworms - well, I don't tend to share story ideas on my tumblr, simply because there are just so many that never fully manifest and I don't want anyone to get disappointed by them not becoming fully realised fics.

However, I will share a bit of an old WIP (like, I last worked on it in July 2020) with you. Please note: the likelihood of this story ever being completed and published is very, very low. Please do not think for certain that it's coming, because it's most likely not.

The premise for this WIP was that IDW Rodimus and Drift, before the Overlord incident, decide to become amica endurae. But the Matrix (half of it, at least) interferes with the vows and sends Rodimus and Drift off on a journey through the other's mind in order to fully understand each other. Like, it was meant to be a mindscape fic, full of symbolism and interacting with memories and all that good stuff.

And here's a small snippet:

Deadlock turns away from him, gazing out into the distance across the battlefield of grey corpses, the aftermath of his standard spare no one order. “We wanted better,” he whispers out, voice hoarse and carefully controlled. “We cared so much about people, about how they were in pain, about how we wanted to free them and raise them high.” Deadlock laughs, bitter, glancing back towards Rodimus with wet cheeks and bright red optics. His frame shivers, begins to fade away, like so much artillery smoke dissipating when the cannons stop firing, and he admits, mournfully, like a confession, face twisted in pain, “But compassion did not survive the revolution.” Rodimus’ hand darts forward to grasp Deadlock, to try to comfort him maybe, but his fingers cannot touch him before he wisps away into dust, scattering to join the noxious fumes still lingering above the wasteland.

The Music Scene of an all Hallows-eve Party 🎃

Realistically, when it comes to a high school party most people only go to either A, showboat their new outfits or boyfriend/girlfriend, or B, to get fucked up. I go neither. I go to just experience the vibe and get a perspective on how people in my generation today. Sometimes there are those parties that have trash-ass music and there are others that hit the spot with the music they provide, and best believe I will be talking about the scene of the best high school party I had ever gone to in my entire life.

My junior year on October 30th, which now I think about it probably wasn’t the best time weather-wise to have an outside party, my friend threw this big Halloween party at her house since she has a gigantic backyard. I got to be there earlier than the party started since we were close and my god did these people not fail my expectations. For those who came in costumes, they were basically like no one’s costume felt original in any way, shape, or form. For example, some guys showed up in just all-black attire with glowing masks on which literally screams basic. They honestly didn’t care, they were just there for the party and to get plastered. Those that didn’t show up in costumes tho, were the people I was looking out for. Guys coming in graphic tees, jeans, and a fresh pair of kicks and a hat from lids to match while girls came in most likely a Forever 21 crop top with jean shorts and some white vans. It was just the standardized party outfit which kinda sucked to constantly see.

Now even though the people at the party all looked basic asf, the energy they brought to the table was giving what needed to be given. Of course, at any high school party you can think of there’s gonna be alcohol. Teens love to get drunk, don’t know why because it really couldn’t be me but they just do. And not to say sober people don’t know how to have a great time because they do but it’s something about a happy, energetic drunk person at a party that just brings good vibes. Along with all of this happy energy followed absolutely amazing music. My friend had a senior who was a Dj come and Dj the party and my god he did not disappoint. He started from the classics such as Work by Rihanna and transitioned his way to the hits we listen to today such as High Fashion by Roddy freaking Ricch. It was like he magically scanned the room and understood the vibe that he needed to provide. With his little set up on my friends’ back porch, speakers blasting, this party was by far the best high school party I had ever gone to and that was all thanks to the music provided by the amazing Dj.

Alright, long story short high school parties can be very cliches, like the ones you see in all the teen movies or tv shows. If you’re lucky though, you may come across a party that has a scene like no other, with great music, great vibes, the whole damn package. I’m glad I was able to revisit my past to the best party I had ever gone to for no other party I go to now compares to that cold-ass October night. Well that all folks. Peace and love.

Just the thought of Logan rapping this line to Hieron clears my skin.

Also reminds me of Logan because we all know that infamous line “I was just a rock in space lucky enough to burn up in your atmosphere for a moment,” and I feel like this was an unspoken if you look to the stars you’ll know I’m always with you type beat.

Okay so y’all remember how MC was having a mini identity crisis and didn’t know which version of herself she was? And Logan was listening and understanding and processing everything she was ranting about but in the end was just like no matter which one you decide, I like all of you? Yeah, that. Along with him just supporting her whenever he can, even though sometimes it can be overbearing, and him just loving watching her change and grow before his eyes (even though we not gonna mention the part of him that doesn’t love that change, feeling guilty for the person she’s becoming and how it could change her life, and the initial intentions he had although how he feels now is genuine) is literally what I think about with these lines

And don’t get me wrong, I know he’s not perfect in your eyes / but somehow he’s flawless in mine

Papa, did I let you down? / Are you ashamed of how your little girl turned out?

This is the lyric that really gets me because one of the things I loved about Ride or Die was the complicated relationship MC had with her father as it was something that resonated so strongly with me. So this one right here really just encapsulates an aspect of that because when MC’s on her this is who I am now and I know you resent that because he genuinely is so hurt and in shock of how his girl changed before his eyes, beyond the reigns of control that he once had, and he can’t do anything else but process and accept that his little girl isn’t so little anymore, rolling around with the people he tried so hard to keep her away from.

Roll Dice, Roddy Rich [j]

I seen the Reap’ come / Live my life I had to roll dice / Been through strife, my heart is cold as ice

I’m a star, I’m just hidden in the low light

Pretty explanatory, considering Logan’s been through a considerable amount of situations that put him in harm’s way and he’s come out stronger (and considerably more detached) each time.

Story Of Us, Tinashe [j]

Yeah, you’re the prince of my heart / And now there ain’t no way they can keep us apart, keep us apart

This song reminds me of Logan and MC a lot because it’s an optimistic take on their relationship as a whole and the sad ending.

You Know That I Love You, Donnell Jones [j]

You know that I love you / And that ain’t gon’ change / And though you’re not here with me now / My love for you stays the same

I think Logan would listen to R&B, specifically sappy 90’s R&B, and this line reminds me of them perfectly. I mean just listen to it, it’s perfect.

My Favorite Part, Mac Miller & Ariana Grande [j]

Said, you just don’t know how beautiful you are / And baby that’s my favorite part / You walk around so clueless to it all / Like nobody gonna break your heart

Said, the universe couldn’t keep us apart / Why would it even try?

Before things come together, they have to fall apart

Logan says from the get go that he thinks it’s wild that MC is modest and that he’s surprised she hadn’t gotten a lot of attention from guys. The other song lyrics I mentioned remind me a lot of their separation.

Colt

Me And My Girlfriend, Tupac Shakur [j]

Lost in the whirlwind, ninety-six, Bonnie and Clyde / Me and my girlfriend, do one-eighty-five when we ride

All I need in this life of sin, is me and my girlfriend / Down to ride to the bloody end, just me and my girlfriend

So it’s canon that Colt likes West Coast rap – and this song absolutely embodies Colt’s musical interests and his relationship with MC. He wouldn’t admit it out loud but he definitely heard this song and thought of MC.

Something Special, Pop Smoke [p]

I think you’re something special / I’ll take you on a shopping spree

We all know Colt is the king of LA and can definitely buy him and MC anything they want, also the “her father the police” verse quite literally hit the nail on the head

Martin & Gina, Polo G [p]

He was playing games / Got you dancing in the middle of the club

At first, saw this as a Logan and MC song to listen to in the car, but if you’re like me and was romancing Logan but danced in the club with Colt because Logan was being distant, the lyrics just do it for me

Hit ‘Em Up, Tupac Shakur [p]

You couldn’t tell us Colt wouldn’t love this song, we’re not accepting criticism at this time

Pulling Me Back, Chingy ft. Tyrese [j]

Every time I try to leave / Something keeps pulling me back, me back / Telling me I need you in my life / It was meant to be / You were meant for me / So that means we gotta make it work

This song reminds me a lot of Colt’s feelings towards MC, because in the lyrics they’re not mentioning they necessarily love her, they’re just gravitating towards her, realizing they need her. And that’s exactly how Colt works through his feelings.

Loveeeeeee Song, Rihanna ft. Future [j]

Boy lately, you been stingy with your time / Got me wondering, I’m wondering if I’m on your mind / Boy I just wanna be in your possession / You say I’m the one you want so come express it

Yeah, we all know Colt wasn’t straightforward with his feelings but is more prone to expressing himself physically, and I think this song feels like a confession of her own qualms with him but recognizing that she’s alright with him being physical over verbal. Honestly it’s probably not that deep but this song reminds me of Colt x MC so much.

Complicated, Rihanna [j]

Why is everything with you so complicated / Why do you make it hard to love you / Oh I hate it / ‘Cause if you really wanna be alone / I, will throw my hands up ‘Cause baby I tried

God this whole song is Colt and MC all over because he’s so wishy washy and doesn’t express himself properly.

I think Colt and Logan would bump this and that’s my only reasoning.

Changed Up, Rae Sremmurd [j]

I think Logan and Colt both alike would bump this in their car and maybe relate to the lyrics and the general vibe of it.

I think I’m addicted to this lifestyle, I swear

Colt is quite literally from the West Side, and the ‘I think I’m addicted to this lifestyle’ line is what really stood out to me because Colt wanted nothing than to be a part of his father’s life and legacy, and Kaneko wanted to keep that separate from him because he knew Colt would be all in.

Run This Town, Jay-Z ft. Rihanna [p]

Does this need an explanation because you already know Colt is running the fuck outta LA thank you for tuning in

Mona

Ungodly Hour, Chloe x Halle [j]

You know that I’ve, I heard it all before / You’re hesitant, wish you could give me more

This is Mona and MC all over. She was clear about being hurt by an ex, and that it was hard for her to open up to MC in the first place, let alone fall for her. So this is like a confessional from MC to Mona.

Te Amo, Rihanna [j]

Then she said Te amo, then she put her hand around my waist / I told her no, she cried Te amo / I told her I’m not gonna run away, but let me go / My soul is awry and without asking why / I said Te amo

The lyrics are sad but this reminds me of Mona and MC, too. There’s a lot of push and pull with Mona, so I think this describes their back and forth so well.

Scared of Love, Juice WRLD [p]

Not scared to love, just scared of love

The Grammy Awards are Decadent and Depraved

Before writing anything about the Grammy Awards, it should be duly noted that nobody really gives a shit. Everyone knows that the nominated artists are nowhere near the best the industry has to offer, but at the end of the day (8PM EST, to be specific) we all tune in to watch the big train wreck in the hopes that at least a couple of shining moments will come through.

The whole thing was off to a bleak start when, in an astoundingly bone-headed move, the Grammys decided to relegate the Rap Album of the Year awards to the pre-show, forcing one of the greatest emcees who ever lived to accept his first Grammy nomination in complete silence. The argument in the Grammys favour is that none of the nominees are popular enough to warrant a spot on the main show, but that doesn’t seem to matter so much to the Grammys when they drag out H.E.R, who elicits a collective “who the fuck is that?” anytime she appears on screen.

And even if it’s a case of the nominees not being popular enough, why nominate them in the first place? Freddie Gibbs and Royce Da 5’9 don’t need the Grammys, we already know that they’re two of the best poets this great genre has to offer. And Nas CERTAINLY doesn’t need the Grammys, as he’s gone his whole illustrious career without even receiving one. How are you gonna make him accept his first ever Grammy award off-air like he’s winning Best Classical Compendium or some shit?

For the Grammys to nominate these incredible talents and then stick them in the pre-show is not only an insult but just downright fucking dumb. Letting Nas on the Grammy stage to accept his first ever award would have done a hell of a lot more to remedy the Weeknd boycott situation than having Harvey Mason Jr. come on screen and beg everyone not to be mad at him.

With that being said, the 63rd Grammy Awards were pretty god-damn weird. You could probably chalk the strange vibes up to the lack of a real audience and the battle-of-the-bands style layout the Grammys opted for, but that’s not entirely it. Something else was off, something nearly intangible. After about an hour of this uncanny-valley feeling, I realized where it was coming from: Trevor Noah.

Possibly the least funny person on the entire planet Earth, Trevor Noah bumbled his way through over three hours of jokes that would have bombed even if they were performed at an open mic night in Tacoma, Washington. The only funny thing that left his mouth was,

“Gobble me, swallow me, drip down the side of me. We’re back at the 63rd Grammy Awards,” and it was only funny because it didn’t make any fucking sense.

Worst host of all time aside, the show ranged from pretty good to downright cringe-inducing, with some moments of greatness sprinkled in. Billie Eilish kicked the show off with a sleepy performance of her Record of the Year nominated track “Everything I Wanted,” in which she sang on top of a luxury car submerged in a cloud of smoke. Eilish, as always, left little to be desired and delivered her performance with the precision of a well-trained theatre kid. There’s an inherent starry-eyed quality to Eilish’s music, but her talents make it easy to look past.

Haim’s blistering performance of “The Steps” was stellar. The group’s musicality was on full display as Danielle Haim led the track on drums and vocals, before quietly switching out with her sister Alana to take centre stage, proving once again that the best way to make a splash at the Grammys is simply by playing music and playing it well.

Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak also gave two incredible performances as Silk Sonic. The first was a Soul Train-inspired rendition of their brand new track “Leave the Door Open” that looked like it was equally as fun to perform as it was to watch. Later, the duo took the stage and set the place on fire with a tribute to Little Richard. Anderson’s drumming was the highlight of the performance, and whoever was running the sound seemed to know this too, centring the rhythm section in the most prominent part of the mix.

There were plenty of moments that were good, but not overly special that I’m gonna run through really quick here. Harry Styles came through and did his cool gender-bending thing. I really like “Watermelon Sugar,” I think it’s a perfect pop song, and I think Harry Styles is way too good to have ever been in One Direction. I’m excited for his next album and that’s all I really have to say about him.

Taylor Swift’s performance was excellent, and it was great to see her bring out Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff and give them the credit they deserve for helping her expand her sound on her stellar 2020 offerings “Folklore” and “Evermore.”

Meg Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Dua Lipa banged out some hyper-sexual performances that didn’t really seem to have a point other than being shocking. But the songs are nice and at least Meg can rap.

Oh, and Beyonce broke the record for most Grammys ever. Does anyone really give a shit about that? I thought it would be a bigger deal.

The rap performances left something to be desired, which is an absolute fucking shame considering the emcees they had nominated in the Rap Album of the Year category. DaBaby came out and did his one flow, and then Roddy Ricch joined him, which was nice. Roddy’s solo performance was actually really great. He’s one of the first rappers I’ve seen play an instrument while rapping. Scarface is the only other one to my memory. Maybe Mac Miller, too.

Lil Baby’s performance was, at first, captivating and powerful, but upon further inspection feels kind of weak, especially considering the weird diatribe from neoliberal grifter Tamika Mallory that he placed halfway through the performance. Re-enacting a police killing with paid actors was also a little tasteless in retrospect. Baby rapped his ass off though, and hopefully his performance will show clueless rap fans that trap music isn’t just a genre meant to soundtrack frat parties.

The worst performance of the night belonged to Post Malone, as it so often does. The Texas troglodyte appeared on stage in the worst Blade costume I’ve ever seen to deliver a dead-in-the-water rendition of his abysmally bad single “Hollywood’s Bleeding.” I remember there was a time when Post Malone’s whole thing was being this pop-crossover Bob Dylan type with rap aesthetics. I didn’t like it, but it was infinitely better than whatever weird gothic thing he’s doing now.

All things considered, the Grammys were the Grammys. You can’t really expect too much from them. While the highs were really high, the lows were so unbelievably low that it was almost embarrassing. Before I sign off, I just wanna give another quick “fuck you” to Harvey Mason Jr. You’re the worst, man.

Chapter 9

Warnings: Blood, Psychological Horror

General Summary: Royal/ Magical AU. As their two Kingdoms get closer to a war, the past keeps on hovering around their choices. Prince Ivan has a hard time controlling his magical powers while being tormented by a mysterious ghost and Prince Alfred embarcs in seeking a revenge that might cost more than it’s worth it.

Preview: Alfred’s curiosity was enlarged and fed while Arthur observed from afar. He had turned the stubborn child into a man of science and Alfred’s deeds filled him with happiness, who wouldn’t take pride in such development?

Ironically, it was a bittersweet achievement, how could he, who had been raised by magic holders, raise this kid to be so eskeptic and reject any form of magic with scientific hypothesis?

Entitlement

Tolys walked down the hallway, the air was filled with a delicious, sweet smell.

The kitchen was a neglected place in the palace, after the queen’s death, only the servants would frequent it.

He wasn’t enthusiastic either, the place was beautiful and neat, the utensils shined, lined up in perfect order but the walls weren’t designed for a kitchen, the heat would enclose itself, overwhelming whoever entered the place.

A tall man stood by the counter, facing away from him, concentrated in the rhythmic chopping of vegetables, his broad figure seemed foreign, more suitable for a battlefield or a plantation, but the last feast had showed Tolys how much work it meant to be a chef in the palace, those large animals meant for feeding the royalty wouldn’t cook themselves. He felt relieved knowing that he’s duties were easier.

He stood awkwardly by the door, clearing his throat. “I need your help, you know almost everyone here, and there is this girl I need to find.”

The chopping stopped, the man turned to acknowledge his presence, arching an eyebrow. “I’m busy, I’ve lost the help I had in here, you’ll have to ask the maids or something.”

Tolys watched the man, his quick movements as to resume his task. “Perhaps you know her-”

The man frowned, annoyance coating his words. “Look, I have work to do, I can’t help you with your romances.”

“Sadik, you don’t have to stop your task-”

“well, tell me her name-”

Embarrassment overwhelmed Tolys, he had no clue as how to find her. “I… I do not know her,” He cursed Ivan mentally, how could he sent him without information, it was a waste of time, he hoped the outburst from the garden was enough to describe her, “She’s uh, she has brown hair, she was scolded yesterday, by the prince...”

“For the love of-” Sadik’s face changed, he left the knife in the counter, “Look, throwing her out of here was enough, what’s with the royals and their persecutions?”

“He wants to apologize, nothing more if you could tell me-”

“Since when does a prince care about what a servant thinks of him?”

Tolys faltered, he had the same question but taking care of this request as soon as he could would assure him the rest of the day with Feliks “I’m just trying to do my job, I don’t question his intentions.”

Sadik turned his back on him, his tone harsh “You should.”

Tolys glanced around, the oven was lit, a smoky smell coming out of it. “I believe his words, she could be back and you’d have less work”

The man cursed, hurrying to the oven and taking out a tray, sweet overtaking the smoky smell. Not meeting his gaze, Sadik answered. “I will tell her that you are looking for her, it’ll be up to her if she comes or not. Tell your prince that his cake is ruined, though, he wouldn’t care, they are leaving today. Shouldn’t you be there?”

Tolys gasped, leaving the kitchen hurriedly, he had a couple of days for this but he was caught up clearing his time to remember that they’d be leaving today for the ball, his nervousness increased but he slowed his pace, would they care if he didn’t bid them goodbye? Probably not.

He reached the entrance, a carriage was prepared, he saw Natalya crushing her fiancé in a hug, Tolys chuckled at the display in front of him, as Ivan patted her back awkwardly, prying her off.

Tolys didn’t understand why Ivan was so weary of her, but he served as distraction when he could, he lowered his head not bearing Natalya’s gaze.

The prince shook his shoulder lightly and asked, “Did you find her?”

He could see Natalya glaring at him. He shook his head.

Ivan sighed, handing Tolys an envelope, “Deliver this” before he could answer, the prince turned away, Natalya following him.

Feliks was standing near them, not hiding his amusement, he waved in his direction. They engaged in small talk while everything was arranged.

When the carriage left, Tolys couldn’t help but feel uneasy, Natalya was digging knives in his back, and he wondered why was she acting like that, after all she used to ignore his presence all along.

She approached, frowning deeply, her blue eyes were cold, and Tolys was reminded of the king. “Give me the letter.” she fumed.

The brunette blinked, looking down at the envelope, “But-”

“Give me the letter” She demanded again.

Feliks chuckled, taking the envelope from him and presenting it to Natalya, she snatched it from his hand and walked away.

Tolys eyes widened and he fidgeted with his hands. “Feliks!”

The blonde shrugged, smiling mischievously. “Let her take it, in the worst case, Ivan has written a love letter and she’ll read it, perhaps we can get rid of her. Now, we leave before she notices.”

Tolys followed him, each step that took him further away from the palace gave him a sense of entitlement.

A feeling that had vanished since his parents died, since he served that first tea for Yekaterina, shaking uncontrollably and spilling it, although she had been understanding and assured him he’d be safe, Tolys couldn’t shake off the uneasiness he felt in his heart.

All this time he had been following their commands, lowering his head and nodding at their words.

Walking hurriedly while taking Feliks hand was refreshing, he was doing something he wanted, he wasn’t another servant in the palace, he wasn’t another of their properties, he was just Tolys, he was fooling around not working.

A smile grew on his lips, as they reached the city, he deserved this small moment of happiness.

Alfred couldn’t believe they had arrived.

He glanced around, the surroundings hitting him with a wave of unfamiliarity and dullness, this was nothing as he had imagined Gilbert’s hometown to be.

He expected a grandiose city with tall churches and monuments, a palace taken out of a fairytale pages. Instead, they had entered a vast territory of rural areas that seemed concerningly empty, and reached a central city overflowing with people, small houses and numerous factories.

Stone paths ran like a gray river throughout the city, forming a maze that not even Arthur was able to explain, the sky was covered with gray clouds, although Alfred could have sworn it was smoke.

The people walked hurriedly in the streets, they weren’t greeting each other warmly, these people seemed apathetic towards their own neighbours and the newcomers, paying a small disinterested look at their carriage before turning away.

The palace was made of stone, its presence overwhelmed with the antique vibe it gave, Alfred smiled to himself, the architects of his kingdom were better, this palace looked more like an old fortress, stone and steel coating every inch of the place, he hoped the interior to be more welcoming.

Alfred opened the carriage door with ease, stepping out, his legs were numb. He dreaded these long trips.

A familiar voice called out. “The little knight has grown!” Gilbert greeted him at the entrance, reaching out his hand for Alfred to shake.

Before Alfred could respond, Arthur scolded. “At least help your sister out, where are your manners Alfred?”

Gilbert smiled, reaching out his hand for Madelaine. “Arthur, I see you kept your bitter attitude. How is he treating you, young lady?”

Alfred stared at them, Madelaine laughed at his remark while Arthur scoffed.

A prickle of jealousy ran over Alfred, his sister managed to maintain a close relationship with Arthur, the latter taking time from his duties to give her lessons while he just dumped a bunch of books in Alfred’s desk each day.

A conversation about the gardens started, rolling his eyes at their formal behaviour, he kept quiet.

Half of their day was spent in casual chatting, Gilbert showed them around.

When they got out for a stroll, Alfred managed to stay back with Gilbert, he was telling him about Roderich and making fun of him for quitting his job and returning,

“I knew he couldn’t do it. He is too refined for being a tutor, apparently, the kid got on his nerves but the last straw was when this kid decided he had enough of Roddy’s lectures.” Gilbert chuckled, slowing his pace to mimic Alfred’s. “This kid, I think he is older than you by a year or so, he’s got a bad temper just like his father,”

Gilbert glanced around, his smile grew, Alfred recognized his mocking tone.“I do not blame him, would you like to be bossed around by some foreigner while you are supposed to become the king?”

Alfred frowned at his words, shaking his head, Gilbert knew why he was staying behind, he was reminding Alfred of his goal, wasn’t he? of course he was, he had gotten his letters, he knew his plan.

Alfred met his eyes, feeling confident. “Where is Ludwig?”

Gilbert eyes scanned him, he shook his head. “You are eager to meet my brother, aren’t you? It’s a shame, he’s too busy right now, we have to do a lot of changes, this ball adds more pressure into him than I first thought.”

Disappointment coated Alfred’s thoughts, all this had been for nothing? He sighed. “Changes?”

“Yes, you saw the city, we have to tend to the people’s needs, we don’t want a shortage of food, this war has taken a toll on everybody, we have to reactive trades, why do you think we offered to host your little party?”

Alfred nodded, lowering his eyes.“So, you’d be opposed to start another war?”

“That is a stupid question, Alfred. Nobody wants to start a war, not even a battle. You do not start a war, it just happens. What you do is prepare in case of one, and if you have arguments to hold your statements, if you give us reasons to be concerned, then, you’ll have our help. If I were you, I’d take care of my own problems before sticking my nose in another Kingdom.”

“But you could get more resources, if we win their land, their people would be ours, that means natural resources and manpower.”

Gilbert halted, looking at him curiously before smirking.“You’ve been paying attention, that’s good,” His red eyes seemed to ponder for a moment, glancing forward, Arthur was watching them. “Enough plotting for today” he whispered, “let’s get some food! There is someone who wants to see you”

Arthur had been watching closely, he sensed something was wrong, it annoyed him not knowing what.

Alfred had been eager to arrive, behaving better each day and preparing himself, for a while, Arthur held the small hope that it wasn’t an act, that Alfred was willing to listen to him. After the outburst in that meeting, Arthur tried to console the boy.

“I am not your father, Alfred, but you are not alone either.” That’s what he had told him. He remembered how the boy had cried, his reluctance to believe his words but that day, Alfred had stopped locking himself away, he left the library open, he asked Arthur for advise.

He wanted to help him, to protect them. Alfred wanted knowledge and Arthur tried to provide him the tools, perseverance is a noble trait, one that Alfred needed to learn.

When the boy complained about being bored, Arthur didn’t know what to do, he had been raised to be independent, but Alfred was always nagging him with questions, with requests, getting mad when he wasn’t given the answer.

In a coward act of neglection, Arthur had told him to “find teachers and friends that provided him with discussions and new discoveries.” when in reality he did so because Alfred’s questions were new to him, he didn’t know how to solve his problems, but somehow that advise had helped.

For Alfred, it was easier to engage in conversation with others than to stare at an old book for hours, the topics were engraved in Alfred’s mind more easily if he attended and participated in the scientific fairs and see the experiments himself.

Alfred’s curiosity was enlarged and fed while Arthur observed from afar. He had turned the stubborn child into a man of science and Alfred’s deeds filled him with happiness, who wouldn’t take pride in such development?

Alfred showed little respect for him and his beliefs, anytime he approached the topic Alfred would enter a state of fierce denial. But now, that they were heading back to the palace, he was acting different, he had glued himself to Gilbert, and the latter was very much rubbing it in Arthur’s face but the boy seemed disappointed. Could it be that this trip had discouraged him from his scientific dreams?

Arthur barely noticed they had been led into the dinning room, only an annoyingly familiar voice took him out of his thoughts.

“My dear Madelaine, you look beautiful!”

Arthur glared at the speaker, why was Francis here.

The man was giving the twins a crushing hug, smiling brightly. “And Alfred, you’ve grown so much”

When he met Arthur’s gaze his smile faded. “You took too long in that stroll, I was waiting for hours!”

Arthur ignored him, taking a seat in the table. Francis kept a conversation with the twins, Alfred seemed way too happy to see that man, and Arthur fought not to acknowledge the growing jealousy in him.

The meals were served and Prince Ludwig accompanied them, the boy was overly formal, he seemed older than he actually was and behaved better than his older brother.

Alfred seemed to regain his cheerful attitude, questioning about the city, finding common ground with Ludwig as they shared their enthusiasm for science.

Around the afternoon, they had been sitting in the main hall, listening to Roderich play the piano as Madeline observed him closely.

Some servants entered to announce that a carriage had arrived.

Gilbert cursed. “They weren’t supposed to be here so early.”

A single glance to the window was enough for Arthur to know who it belonged to, the blue tones and the engravings gave off their identity.

Alfred offered to go with Gilbert and Ludwig to greet the guests, and Arthur’s heartbeat grew faster, he approached Francis and urged him to keep an eye on Alfred.

As he watched them leave, Arthur stood by the window, looking intently at the carriage, the doors were opened and he saw the figure of a man stepping out, Arthur was sure this was the prince, he held out his hand an a blonde woman stepped out, their resemblance was unmistakable.

To Arthur’s surprise, nobody else went out of the carriage. Could it be that their father refused the invitation?

The boy was older than Alfred but the way the woman treated him, gave off the idea of who was the oldest sibling.

While she had a gentle expression in her face, he had an unnerving aura, a chill run down his spine when he saw Alfred shaking his hand.

Arthur felt a gush of cold wind behind his neck. Emerald eyes found themselves locking their gaze with a pair of violet eyes.

roddy plays fire emblem: three houses - prologue

all I know about this game I learned from twitter. I don’t know much of anything about this game. but I’ll tell you what I know about the characters anyway.

I’m only doing characters who I can distinctly recall off the top of my head. I’m not looking up anyone’s names because there are so many characters in this game.

Byleth - the player character. a teacher at this academy, despite not being much older than the oldest students here. game devs are cowards who couldn’t believe that lady Byleth could be Big Sexy in proper armor and instead they gave her fuckin....thigh-highs and lace and a titty window and a belly-button window ma’am your organs are there, you can’t expose that. my disdain for impractical lady armor is outweighed by my desire to play as the girl whenever possible, so like, I’ll play Lady Byleth, but I just won’t be happy about it.

Jeralt - Byleth’s dad? I think it’s Jeralt? There’s some other guy who looks a lot like the guy who I think is Byleth’s dad so I can’t actually tell you if I got the name right. he’s a mercenary. I don’t know why he and his kid are hired at a fuckin....church academy? but they are. he raised Byleth basically as a feral child and he doesn’t even know how old they are? even though his wife died in childbirth and I think he talks about how long ago that was? or something? there’s something about him not knowing how old his own kid is. Dad what the hell.

Rhea - the lady pope of The Church, but not a cool ladypope like Leliana Dragon Age. I saw someone compare her outfit/hair to Ghetsis from Pokemon and I sent that meme to Wolf and Liam asking if they could confirm or deny and they told me that’s an insult to her but Ghetsis is slime of the earth so relatively, we still don’t know. I don’t trust her because I don’t trust quasi-historical-inspired-setting fantasy church leaders, except for Leliana/Vivienne/Cassandra.

Seteth - green hair? all the church people have green hair are they related? is it magic? I think it’s magic, Byleth’s hair is sometimes green. he’s like the Hot Dad but since he’s not your dad you can romance him. I don’t know if I trust his goatee but one of my friends retweets a lot of art of him and I trust her so maybe I trust him? he’s on thin ice.

Flayan? Flayn? Flyann? I’m calling her Flan like the custard but I know there’s a Y in there somewhere right? - more green hair, so a church person I guess. I have no idea how old she is because this is anime and she could be anywhere from 12 to an ancient dragon person because I know this series has some of those. maybe Seteth’s daughter?? I get that vibe??

Sothis - the ancient dragon person who looks like a 12 year old girl. more green hair. I couldn’t tell her and Flan apart for a while.

BLACK EAGLES

why aren’t they the Red Eagles? they’re red. the other two are blue and yellow. who named these guys. what the fuck.

Edelgard - every time I see the pokemon Eldegoss in SwSh I think of her. leader of the BE. controversial. very controversial. doesn’t like the Church. I can handle this, I romanced Anders in my first playthrough of DA2 which was my first time playing any Dragon Age game, controversial and Church-hating is like.... sometimes you just gotta blow up a fantasy church, you know? I get it. even if I don’t end up agreeing with her, like, I get it, I guess. she didn’t always have white hair but something happened. there sure is a lot of magic hair color shit in this game. I think Dmitri is her stepbrother.

Hubert - Edelgard’s right-hand man. vampire jokes for days. I’m gonna cut myself on that edge....the edge of his cheekbones they are Sharp. I don’t buy that this guy is a teenager. I don’t know whether he’s actually tall or people just play that up because it’s funny to draw him Tall and Looming behind Edelgard.

Ferdinand von Aegir - I AM FERDINAND VON AEGIR!!!!!!!!

Dorothea - she’s the opera singer one, right? if I got the name wrong, I’m talking about the pretty opera singer one with the hat that’s kinda like a beret. she’s my favorite because I’m gay and she’s very pretty and looks very sweet. she’s like the only one of the Eagles who’s a commoner I think? I don’t know why she’s here but okay. I like her. I would like to kiss her.

GOLDEN DEER

Claude - that’s not his real name. leader of the GD. he’s an archer and he has a big fuckoff dragon wyvern. his mother is from whatever country this game is set in but his dad isn’t and lots of people are rude and racist to him for it. he seems kinda chill but also suspicious of everyone which honestly I get it. also he might poison people? I trust him and I’m sure he has good reason to do it. I support him.

Hilda - Claude’s right-hand lady. pink hair anime girl with a giant fuckoff axe. I thought I knew more about her than that but nope that’s all I’ve got. has an older brother.

Lorenz - purple haired anime boy. look at his post-timeskip haircut this boy is Gay and there’s nothing anyone can tell me that would change my mind. needs to be smacked with some good ol’ Character Development to grow past being a pretentious noble prick but he’s pretty cool once that happens. one of the artists I follow who turned overnight into a FE3H twitter for like six months is a big Lorenz stan so I think I could be biased toward him already but that’s just How It Be when you’re coming into this via osmosis.

BLUE LIONS

Dmitri - leader of the Blue Lions but everyone calls him a boar. gets absolutely hammered by Bad Times in the timeskip and comes back with an eyepatch and absolutely feral and unhinged. murdered a bunch of people? Dimi You Can’t Just Go Around Murdering People. 30-50 feral hogs in a big fuzzy mantle. very unfortunate that he’s being forced to do Leader Shit and just wasn’t allowed to be chill and relax and get to work through his issues instead of getting more of them and going feral.

Dedue - you cannot convince me that this man is not a 30-year-old father of two. how is he a student. get out of here. you’re wrong and you’re lying. who did these character designs. I think out of almost everyone here, he is the guy who Does Not Deserve All Of This but fate has been a dick to him. everyone he loves got murdered by I think Dmitri’s countrymen but now Dedue is Dmitri’s right-hand-man which I do not understand. He deserves better both in-game and also from the writers because they just kind of write him out post-timeskip I hear. just free this man from whatever the fuck is going on in his life and the game. I still don’t believe you that he’s of any age to be a student.

Sylvain - the redhead. childhood friends with Dmitri and someone else but I don’t remember who. The Horny Guy. may just automatically be recruited by Lady Byleth to their class, betraying his country and his oldest friends because he saw a belly-button window. just y’know. sometimes it be like that.

FELIX - he’s the other childhood friend. I don’t know shit about him.

OTHER STUDENTS WHOSE NAMES I CAN RECALL BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AND IT DOESN’T MATTER BECAUSE YOU CAN RECRUIT ALMOST EVERYONE TO ANYWHERE ELSE

Caspar (artist?), Linhardt, Bernadetta (Bernie, my brain keeps just swapping her and Dorothea around because they both have these long regal names but I don’t think they’re actually anything at all alike), Petra, Leonie, Marianne,

ASHEN WOLVES

they’re not really a house they’re just a bunch of people who live in the fucking basement and I think it’s the church’s fault.

Yuri - the other purple-haired anime boy. got kicked out of war crimes academy somehow. declared himself the leader of the basement people and they were just like “hey sure cool I guess”.

Someone who’s a friend of I think Hilda’s older brother - not even a student or someone who needs to be living in the basement, he’s just down here for tax fraud? debt evasion? again, it be like that.

THE PLOT

matchmaking simulator. Byleth plays matchmaker for all of their students by setting them up into the most healthy friendships/relationships that are as ambiguously gay as the COWARDS writing this game will allow. I know there are a few, but it’s mostly a few Byleth romances, so. that.

also Byleth makes the other professors’ jobs easier by poaching all their students so that they only have to teach like two people while Byleth has everyone in their class. recruit the students by giving them gifts and having tea with them. eat lunch like five times a day trying to hang out with everyone. go fishing. go fishing some more. the game limits your amount of bait per month because otherwise this will be a fishing simulator. I know this specifically because I asked Wolf and Liam if I could just fish infinitely forever and they told me no. I was upset. the day that the game starts is 4/20. I know this because Wolf made a meme about it and that’s what started our long conversation about the game that established nothing.

immediately after everyone graduates, Byleth goes into a fucking coma for five years and wakes up and the five-year reunion is interrupted by a war between the three houses. -rimshot- also there might be some greater threat called the Flame Emperor or some shit but I know fuckall about that. mostly I just know everyone’s despair as they are forced to kill their friends who they didn’t manage to recruit.

I’ve never played a Fire Emblem before and I’ve never known what a tactic is in any RPG I’ve ever played. this is going to be fantastic.

Ok so before we start, I gotta fess up and say I got spoiled for something because Twitter Sucks, so I know Tarn is in this series. Here are my predictions about that:

Megatron said he rescued Astrotrain from a tyrant. I thought he meant an Alt!Universe version of him, but now that I know This Bastard is gonna be in it, I’m guessing it’s Tarn

If Megatron DID save Astrotrain from Tarn, it’d be hilarious if Tarn & co. weren’t actually planning to kill Astrotrain, they were just using him as transport, in which case Megatron essentially car-jacked (train-jacked?) them.

As much as I rag on Tarn and the DJD I actually do genuinely love the idea of an Autobot + Decepticon teamup against the DJD THAT WOULD BE SO FRICKIN COOL....

I’m sure at some point during their voyage on the Ark, Optimus froze and they all played the “who can do this silly / embarrassing thing in front of Optimus and get away with it before he wakes up” game. Like, Rodimus somersaults down the hall while spouting fire in front of Optimus, Bee does a handstand while singing the alphabet backwards, etc, and whoever’s in front of Optimus when he “wakes up” loses. (It’d be even funnier if Optimus kept pretending to be frozen while they played until someone did something REALLY embarrassing and he unfroze to freak them out. Then again, the Matrix going back into his chest would probably be too much of a giveaway huh)

Whatever he saw in that other universe convinced him that killing Optimus just wasn’t worth it (or perhaps, deep deep DEEP down, he really doesn’t want to kill his old friend).

I didn’t expect the terror plotline at all, so I hope they explain how she got in with it initially. Maybe a downside to trusting AI? 1. Wouldn't they have hinted it beforehand? Maybe they did and I missed it though lol,

2. Wouldn't the judges have known an AI was participating? I can imagine that might've not been allowed.

And 3. We haven't seen any AI's that closely resemble humans. All the AI's we've seen, have been built like cute robots or animals. The more advanced AI's, like let's say, the ones Tao or Roddy uses, are just machines and in cafés and restaurants is also almost everything done by AI's but we've never seen humanoid ones.

So for me the AI theory seems less plausible, it could still be true but I have my doubts in how they will pull it off.

Which leads to the second part of my 'analysis': why did the creators introduce Cybelle? We've noticed that she clearly isn't just one of the other candidates to fill space in episodes or to broaden our cast with more unique characters to feel a connection with.

One reason they might've introduced her was just to teach Tuesday her lesson and, especially in the last episode, to intensify the drama. If that's the case they might leave her as she is, a toxicly obsessive fan and not give her a lot more screen time in the end.

Yet… I think this might've been something entirely different.

I think that the chances are she might be a spy for Tuesday's mom. Now hear me out! The first thing we notice from Cybelle is how she's solely interested in Tuesday, not even looking at Carole. The next thing she does is try to win Tuesday for herself, asking Tuesday to team uo with her, OR trying to break up the duo. If Tuesday doesn't have Carole anymore Tues' mom might be able to get her daughter back more easily.

PLUS! She might've been trying to not get her daughter to go on stage, the weird biting thing with Cybelle and the burn incident. Or this was a set-up to show how 'dangerous' the outside world or more specifically the music industry actually is. (Getting 'Tangled' vibes here lol), again, the weird biting thing and the burn incident.

If that's the case then, yes, I think we might see a redeemable Cybelle since she was just playing her role, doing her job. This also may explain the sudden destructive behavior, biting is one thing but using some kind of electronic to inflict serious burns on someone, is something entirely else.

The suestion we could ask that though is if Tues' mom would be capable of hurting her own daughter like that. Seeing the guys she send to get Tues though, it wouldn't surprise me really.

And for her politic stuff, if it gets out, she might take he decision to not sue Cybelle, showing some kind of motherly side and showing pity for Cybelle.

This could probs be searching waaay too far for an explanation but this is the theory I stand by for the moment.

Night Castle

Hi all! I will be posting mini-reviews of my favorite parts from each TSO album! I will go over band personnel, the story, and the music! Please enjoy!

Night Castle was released in 2009, and was TSO’s second non-Christmas album! It is also their longest, with 26 total songs, and, to me at least, their most emotional album to date.

The album features many familiar faces, with lead singers being Jay Pierce, Jeff Scott Soto, Tim Hockenberry, Rob Evan, and Jennifer Cella. The band personnel is also very familiar, with Paul O’Neill, Chris Caffery, Angus Clark, Al Pitrelli, and Alex Skolnick on guitar, Robert Kinkell, Jon Oliva, Luci Butler, Shih-Yi Chang, Jane Mangini, and Derek Wieland on keyboards, Chris Altenhoff and Johnny Lee Middleton on bass, Roddy Chong and Anna Phoebe on violin and strings, and John O.Reilly and Jeff Plate on drums. And, with Dave Wittman on, as all TSO albums say, “drum, guitar, and bass inserts for those little things the rest of us forgot.”

It also features Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's Greg Lake on bass for Nutrocker!

And, not to mention the numerous amazing backing vocalists and instrumentalists!

Its a big album with big personnel, a big story, and even bigger music. Lets get into that~

-Best hard opening to a TSO album

-The pounding opening guitar motif that repeats is amazing

Childhood Dreams

-A very classical-based song, like, its very operatic

-The “controversial” song on the album. Only because people either love it or hate it. I love it. Its fun.

-Jay is singing from his SOUL here

-Lyrics are very whimsy:

“But then it's known to catch our eye And dare us all to once more try And with a childhood faith believe And that magic to retrieve As childhood dreams ...”

-Overall solid song

-The slow piano that kinda hangs back the entire time is great

-I love the way he sings the line “But suddenly inside the dark, she sees the magic of the sparks...”

Sparks

-Old-school rock n roll song

-One of my favs off the album, its just so, idk..classic sounding?

The Mountain

-eyyyy first Savatage cover- based n Prelude to Madness! From Hall of the Mountain King!

-The atmosphere is REAL

-The windy sound effect in the opening, the deep bells AH so good

-A familiar melody, and MAN they give it their best

-They speed up gradually over time, and it just gets to the point where its ridiculous how much is going on in the song

-These guys are so talented I swear

-The solo at 4:09 KICKS

Night Castle

-Jeff Scott Soto giving me life, once again

-Very different sounding song I believe, not many other TSO songs sound like it

“Am I risking my own life...my life..?

-OK also I SWEAR in the last 4th of this song, when the slow bit hits, the melody is EXTREMELY CLOSE to the opening to Mephistopheles, from Beethoven's Last Night. It may just be coincidence, but it sounds like an Easter egg to me. Or maybe I’m just crazy. AHA.

-The falling synth piano bits at 1:55. Yes.

-Song gets creepy with the minor change at the end

-I LOVE the last few seconds its so peppy and pretty, like that piano is so gentle

The Safest Way Into Tomorrow

-And I’m crying already, thanks Paul.

-They used this song for the tribute to Paul O’Neill in the 2017 live show. And i get so sad every time I hear it now. Like a melancholy feel now.

“Morpheus is at your side, offering the wings to fly, and be there..”

-Thanks Morpheus

-This line hits me right in the feels every time:

“Be there, free from Earth to sail across this night, where stars are all eternal”

-The piano build at 3:15 mmmm

-Second Savatage cover!

-Very eerie

-Fits with the “dream” thing going on in the story at this point

-The guitars are the best part at 0:42, that melody is so eerie and cool

-The pianos and strings at 0:24 hit me hard, VERY well recorded there

-It gets real fast at the end

-TSO and classical covers are such a good combo

Another Way You Can Die

-TSO got PG.

-Like look:

“And the tracers probe on 'Till a close friend is gone And you find yourself embracing ground”

-and:

“I see a figure in my rifle sight Who does not know that he's there And as I hesitate to take his life The ground explodes My blood it flows My heart is racing Times escaping As I feel it slowly scraping by”

-like holy hell

-Like I love the song don’t get me wrong

-But lord Paul went all out here

-He was NOT holding back

-PAULS GOT A MESSAGE TO GET ACROSS AND LORDY HES GONNA DO IT ANY WAY HE CAN

Toccata - Carpimus Noctem

-TSO has mastered Christmas, TIME FOR HALLOWEEN MUAHAHA

-Literally its such a good cover. They keep the classic classical intro, with synth and guitars of course, but then they go full metal with it.

-I love the weird guitar lick at 1:49, it really stands out

-Yet another guitar solo featured song and mmm its good

-Also, the DRUMS ARE AMAZING IN THIS ONE

The Lion’s Roar

-Third Savatage cover kind of

-The second half is from Temptation Revelation from Gutter Ballet

-As a trumpeter, I love this song, as it is TSOs only trumpet-featured song.

-The first half is a very military-esque (Fits with the story, eh?) trumpet solo on The Minstrel Boy. This song is very accurate as it is usually played at military events or funerals.

-Which makes me even sadder because of the context of thE STORY

-Nice little interlude song

Dreams We Conceive

-EMOTIONS.

-The opening organ, it its me right in the HEART.

-You can just HEAR the sorrow in his voice in this song.

-The way he sings “Where the dreams die...as the blood dries...”

-Too relatable my soul can’t take it.

-His little voice quiver on the word “do” in the line ‘WHat else is the night to do..”

“As you stand all Alone at your station What if God doesn't Know where you are As you send out your Prayers for salvation But afraid that They don't go that far

-I used to skip this track before I understood it in context to the story.

-Then I felt emotions

There Was A Life

-This song man,,,the emotions are REAL

-The way he sings the word “life” in the opening line

“Can someone tell me Can someone say when The writer of this story Will just tell us how it all will end?”

-I relate too much to that

-Paul asking the real questions of life: “ Is there forgiveness for hesitation?”

-The HURT in his voice when he sings “DEAR GOD” at 3:14

-Robbbb why you gotta kill me like this

-The piano is superb at 4:22

-Captures the vibe perfectly

“Are you scared of your life? Are you scared of your death? Though that day will arrive Well it hasn't come yet...”

-Calling me out like that huh

-His “ALIIIIIIIIIVE” at 8:37 oh my LORD

-I’m feeling ALL the emotions

Moonlight and Madness

-OK. So I can’t think of which piano player it was, I’m thinking either Kinkel or Weiland, I could be wrong...BUT. Paul said in an interview once that the songs piano was recorded in one take. ONE TAKE THAT INTRO. He just FLEW INTO IT PERFECTLY.

-Its a wild song, based on the moonlight sonata.

Time Floats On

-This song man..this song

-*Insert seagull meme here* “tiiiiime flllOAATS OOOOON!!!”

-It was one of the first TSO songs I ever heard

-The crazy contrasting piano bit in the middle AH its cool

-Such an eerie song really

-”Time floats on...as I write these letters that you'll never see...” ;-;

-this song has so much heart

Epiphany

-OK HERE WE GO

-TSOs longest song

-TSOs most emotional song

-I’m crying again

-The SHEER HURT and SORROW in Rob’s voice when he sings “ I fear the night, I fear the dark, I need this light...that distant spark...”

-The fast bit at 3:52...I don’t think Rob breathed once during that recording.

-The spoken part was a bold choice, TSO has never done that before. I liked it a lot, its a great addition to the song.

-The subtle harmonies in the “Somewhere”s...amazing.

-and MAN. The LYRICS.

-A nice calming music box medley of the C major prelude.

-OK SO TSO SHOULD ACTUALLY MAKE LITTLE MUSIC BOXES THAT PLAY THIS HOLY HECK ID BUY 50

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

-The OTHER most EMOTIONAL SONG on the album

-First half: pain, sorrow, regret, melancholy, slow piano...

-The EMOTION in the line “ Never quite there but it's never quite gone, you are the star that is wished upon...forever....”

-Second half: RAGE. ANGER. FIRE. AAAHHHHH.

-The main guitar riff is so heckin powerful

-Lyrics literally have this background in it: “...she raged against all those citizens of apathy and willful ignorance who lived behind the sacrifices of others.”

-The high piano swapped out for low guitar and bass melodies, a heavy mood, and pounding drums

-”...You cling to that card, Father, Son & Holy Ghost”

-You FEEL THE RAGE

-It has the most metal lyrics:

“And Christ and Confucius Are all their words useless We quote them in fractions But not in our actions”

-Like WOW

Remnants of a Lullaby

-A simple, but pretty song

-Very calming, and a nice breather from the song before

-The feeling in “ What to keep, what to save...”

”Wished on coins Childhood wings Carousels Still turning Waiting there patiently Remnants of a lullaby...”

-IM A KID AGAIN

The Safest Way Into Tomorrow (Reprise)

-dangittt I’m crying AGAIN

-album comes full circle here in the most emotional way possible

-especially when you consider the context of the story at this point aahhHHH

-Soto owns my soul

Embers

-OK, just..I love this song. Simple as that.

-This is pure atmosphere.

-Listen to it. Bonfire. Embers soaring to the stars above. Fireflies all around. Friends sitting with you at the camp fire. Acoustic guitar playing. A perfect summers night.

-Just...perfection.

Child of the Night

-Eyyyyy the aria again. It grows on yah.

-Very relaxing.

-Just brings that calming night vibe to life.

-Makes yah feel like a kid again.

Believe

-AAAAND the TSO song everyone knows for one reason or another.

-Also one of the more emotional ones on the album.

-A cover of the Savatage song off Streets

-I love this version, (No offense Jon), like idk why exactly...it just feels more..personal? Idk, maybe its just because of the sheer emotional journey we just went on lol.

-It builds spectacularly, and the emotion is all in in this one. 10/10 great cover.

Nutrocker

-YAYY JUST HAD AN EMOTIONAL AND HEARTBREAKING JOURNEY, TIME FOR HAPPY FUN CHRISTMAS EMMERSON LAKE AND PALMER NUTCRACKER SONG YAYY

-Heh I kid I kid

-It features Greg Lake on bass!

-This song ROCKS man it ROCKS

-TSO does SO WELL WITH THIS

-The fast piano, the amazingly melodic guitar melody, the rock bits with a jazz break sandwiched in between AH.

Carmina Burana

-This is also one of my favs off the album.

-I believe this is also the song that got some conservative folks mad at TSO for being “satanists” by playing this. It was the latin I think.

-Doesn’t matter, this song is epic. Very bombastic.

-It builds so well, and the repeated guitar and bass riffs make it feel so pounding I love it.

Tracers

-Ok so this song and I have history.

-I originally didn’t like this song (woah, right?)

-It just didn’t click. Buuuuut, TSO did it live in 2018, and BOI that changed everything. I loved it after that. Its top 25 TSO songs for me now.

-IDK what they did or how they did it, but after the live show, I loved it. Past me was wrong. This song ROCKS.

-The pounding opening is iconic

-The soaring guitars

-The weird interval medley at 0:49 is so cool

-The main melody KICKS at 1:00

-My fav bit is the surreal acoustic bit at 2:06

-Its SO GOOD

-The repeated 5 notes at like 1:34 are so driving

-The descending bit at 2:55!!!

-and the BUILD UP TO THE VOCAL PART AT 3:32 OH MAN POETIC CINEMA

And there you have it!!! Night Castle! To me, its the most emotional album of the lot. And the most atmospheric. Its long, but its a wild ride the entire time. The story is sad but inspiring, the music is legendary, the art is beautiful, so all around, this, to me, may be their best album in terms of general scoring. What do you think?

Adam Cole Imagine

My match with Candice was up next. whoever won was going to be challenging for the NXT women’s championship at Takeover Brooklyn. I stood behind the curtain and watched as the members of Undisputed Era walked through, all having the cockiest look on their face. I hated all of them. every time I saw them or walked by they had some kind of smirk on their face.

“good luck tonight baybay, I know you’ll do great” Adam says winking at me. I roll my eyes. I pushed past them as I heard my music play, making my entrance into the arena.

The match was going well until I went for a suicide dive, and landed really hard on my shoulder. I finished the match, but I lost. Candice walked with me to the back. Of course the first person I saw when I walked through the curtain had to be Adam.

“you okay?” he asks sounding concerned. I shook my head as Candice walked with me to the trainers room. I knew as soon as they mentioned going to the hospital to have tests done, that it wasn’t good. I knew i’d probably have to miss months of in ring action.

“i’m so sorry” Candice says giving me a gentle hug

“it’s okay, it’s my fault.”

“I still feel really bad you got hurt, hopefully its nothing serious” she says as we walk toward the women’s locker room. I wanted to change, and just get to the hospital. I needed to know what was wrong with me.

of course we had to walk right past where the undisputed era were standing in the hallway talking. I rolled my eyes and tried to walk past them “hey y/n, any news on your shoulder?” Adam asks. I could see worry on his face, same with the others

I shook my head. “i’m about to head to the hospital, they want to run some tests. i’m just hoping it isn’t anything serious”

“everything will be okay, I promise” he says giving me a small smile

“I really hope you’re right” I say. I had little hope in his words as I walked away. when I finally reached the women’s locker room and went in to change, I realized just how badly I was hurt. the simple task of putting my shirt on was excruciating. I had no idea how I was going to load my bag into the car or drive.

I hugged the girls goodbye, and walked to my rental car, I struggled to lift my bags with my good arm.

“here let me help” I heard a familiar voice say Adam lifted my bag with ease, and placed it in the back of the car.

“thanks”

“you’re welcome” he says smiling

I closed the trunk and walked to the drivers side.

“are you travelling alone?” he asks shocked

“yeah, I usually do.”

“let me come with you so you aren’t driving yourself” he says

“you don’t have to i’ll be fine”

“I know I don’t have to but I want to, you’re hurt and shouldn’t be driving” he says

“fine” I say handing over the keys. I knew he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.

I was surprised when he opened up my door for me. he was actually being nice? I was kinda confused.

“why are you being so nice to me?” I ask

“what do you mean?” he asks

“every time I’ve seen you before I got hurt you’ve always been this cocky arrogant, douche. but now you’re being nice”

“i’m sorry I give off that vibe, sometimes when I just come back through the curtain, I still have a lot of adrenaline, and i’m still in Character, I promise i’m nothing like that”

I looked at him kinda skeptically. “I promise, Kyle, Bobby, and Roddy are the same way” he says.

I gave a small smile, really wanting to believe him. “just give us a chance?” he asks

“alright, i’ll give you guys a chance.” the moment those words left my mouth he smiled.

“the moment we saw that you landed wrong, we all became worried. we hate seeing anyone get hurt. especially with you being as talented as you are.” he says. I could hear the sincerity in his voice.

“i’m no where near as talented as you guys think. perfect example. I screwed up a suicide dive and now i’m going to be out for God knows how long” I say sadly

“accidents happen. that match was amazing. even though you got hurt you still finished the match, and didn’t lead on that you were in much pain” he says. placing his hand on my knee. trying to comfort me

“oh i’m in pain. I could hardly put my shirt on. I don’t know how I finished the match”

“adrenaline, it helps you block out the pain in the moment, but once it wears off you start to feel it”

“I just hope its nothing serious”

“no matter how serious it is, we’re gonna be supporting you.” he says as he pulls me into a hug.

“thank you, i’m honestly scared to death. I've never had surgery before. so i’m hoping its nothing major. i’m hoping that i’ll just have to take a few weeks off and i’ll be fine. but something tells me its more serious”

“just try and stay positive. as bad of advice as that is” he says making me laugh

it felt like hours. test after test being done on my shoulder, multiple x-rays, CT scans. Adam was there supporting me the whole time. I sat in the hospital bed, waiting on the results. hoping It wouldn’t be serious. but once the doctor came in the room. I felt the news wouldn’t be good.

Adam took my hand into his as the doctor began speaking.

The doctor starts showing me the X-Rays and scans that they took, and explaining that I hadn't tore anything, or broken anything.

When he said I'd just need a few weeks off to rest. I smiled. Adam squeezed my hand.

"I told you everything was gonna be fine" he says as the doctor exists the room

"Thank you, for coming with me. I don't know what I'd do if I were alone"

"I'm glad I could come with you." He says giving me a gentle hug "let's go to the hotel so you can relax and ice your shoulder"

Just as i started getting up out of bed, several familiar faces walked into the room.

"Did you find anything out?" Candice asks nervously

"Yeah, its nothing serious. I'll have to be off for a few weeks, and I have to ice it for a few days. Other than that I'm okay

"I'm glad, you had us all worried when you landed wrong" Kyle says

"I'm just glad you're okay" Candice says before giving me a gentle hug

"Me too. I don't know what I would have done if it were more serious" I say

"Either way we'd be supporting you" Adam says

"I know. You've shown me that tonight" i say

"We're gonna leave and go have dinner. You coming Adam?" Kyle asks

Each of them gently hug me as they leave.

"What do you think about getting dinner on the way to the hotel?" He asks

"You had me at food" i say making him laugh

"you know that you can let go of my hand now right?" I ask making him blush

"I...im sorry... I was just trying to comfort you and didn't realize i was still holding it" he says

"You can if you want to. I don't mind" i say

"Its not every day I'm spending tome with a gorgeous girl like you" he says

"I'm nothing special Adam."

"To me you are." He says

"So dinner.. Is this a date?" I ask

"Only if you want it to be" he says

I smile and nod "I'd love that"
