Gene Hackman always played terrible evil bad guys, but he's such a lovely good dude in real life. He was on Richard Nixon's 'enemy list'. That alone makes him a good guy IRL. Lol

Oliver Reed is in this, his first American movie. Playing an American cowboy. His facial scars play well into it.

Characters with mismatched morals. The seemingly well-dressed rich rancher is a sadist and a gleeful angrymurder.

The gruff unkempt working class guy misunderstood as an outlaw, has the morals of an antihero, but a decent man that seems to respect lives of even the worst of his group.

The woman that willfully marries her rich rancher husband but seems to have learned he has no heat, he's secretly mean and sadistic. The outlaw kidnaps her to learn to read, but even in taking her he's more kind and tender than he disgusting husband. To the point that she'd rather be with and die with a man that's got a soul than her cold controlling hellish husband.

Conundrum. I love it when the balance is turned upside down and inside out. Nobody is innocent. But there's definitely someone guiltier and filthier than the other.

Disclaimers/warnings: Typical fandom things (read tags), OOC characters???, Unrealistic, Some suggestive themes and language, I'm so sorry but English is not my first language so please don't come after me. Most of the content I've seen are on TikTok and Tumblr I don't actually play the game but I love the characters so much, same with any other content I have for other video games.

Fluff:

You giving them a keychain or something of the sort and you think they clasp it on their belt loop or keep it in their pocket but that's actually not how they take it on missions with them because something from you is too valuable to actually be taken out like that where they could lose it.

Same thing goes if you make them jewelry, they think it's too fragile so instead they keep it back in their quarters/place underneath their pillow.

They pull out whatever trinket you gave them that meant a lot to you or you made yourself and they just stare at it reminding themselves that they have you. They hold it close to their heart as the found themselves finally able to sleep, still was difficult away from you.

With all the cruel and fucked up things they've seen in their life, you are by far the only light they have when they are stuck sulking in the darkness.

The one time you gave them a necklace, your favorite one and you begged them to bring it on missions because it was extremely sturdy and was in good condition after all.

They, in turn made a chain and clasped it on that so they can have it hanging by their belt loops so that enemies don't rip it off their neck. (The chain I'm describing are similar to the picture at the top but with chunkier and sturdier chains)

God forbid they actually lose or break something you gave them, they would cry or sulk because they know how much you value it and how your feelings would get hurt.

They were extremely surprised and relieved that you weren't mad at all at them because things like that just happen especially on missions. Instead of being mad, you gave/made them another one. They'll cherish it, that's for sure.

Angst ending below:

They swore to keep it with them to their graves and they did, the shouldn't have made that promise. It cemented their fate...

With their last breath, it was you they thought of. Apologies running through their head for being so weak that they know they're going to fail to come home to you.

Their cold body found in battle, tear and blood stained face while their eyes still open but no signs of life. In their fist was found of a memory of your love that kept them alive till then. The closed fist being held against their heart when they were found..

You couldn't help but fall to your knees, the world around you felt like it was spinning. Your lungs refuse to let you breathe along with the rest of you body betraying you, you choked out a sob. Clenching your hand against the pain in your chest withholding the item you gave them, only having realized that it returned into your hands once more...

Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors

Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?

What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.

Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.

Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.

I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!

Young Royals and pronunciation

I've been listening to a ton of reaction videos and podcasts about Young Royals now, pretty much everyone apologizes for butchering their names, and then they proceed to butcher their names. So I decided to put together a little guide, because this is an educational tumblr after all!

First up, it's perfectly fine to go with your language's version of the names. William, Guillaume, Szymon, Simón, it's all good. Languages have local versions of names for a reason, we adapt things all the time.

Secondly, there is no one true way of saying their names, the actors in the show say the names in different ways, because it depends on context and emphasis. There's a range of pronunciations in Swedish.

And the third thing to keep in mind is that it's impossible to pronounce their names in Swedish in the middle of a non-Swedish sentence. This is because the sounds of a language, the phonemes, don't blend well with the phonemes of other languages. When we talk, we don't actually pause between words, we blend the words together, and those rules break down if we switch language mid-sentence. So either you have to pause around the word, which breaks the flow, or you have to adapt either the word or the sentence.

If you've listened to the dubbed version of the show, you will have heard examples of this. Either people speak English with a Swedish accent, in which case the phonemes blend, and the Swedish names just fit in nicely. Or they have less of an accent, and speak the names with an English accent, to make them blend, to make them fit.

And that last option is pretty easy to do. With some small changes to the English version of the names, you'll be much closer to the Swedish originals, and it'll still sound great when you speak normally.

Let's start with Wilhelm. Go ahead and watch this edit of various characters saying his name:

The biggest difference is that Swedish doesn't have the 'w' sound that English has. We have the letter, but we got it from German, so we call it a double-v, not a double-u, and it's pronounced exactly like a regular v. Compare how Madison says the name in the middle of that video with how everyone else says it. But English has the sound, if you can say village or very or volume, you've got the v sound right.

The second 'l' and the 'h' is optional. When Simon and Rosh talk about him on the bus, they mock him by enunciating clearly, because it sounds posh. Wilhelm himself usually drops the second 'l' if you listen carefully. So the range of pronunciations go from Villem to Vilhem to Vilhelm, the only important part is to get the initial 'v' right. Think of him as Vilhelm in the Village.

I've made a similar edit for Simon, so go ahead and listen to people saying his name:

The biggest difference here is that in Swedish, both vowels are plain, there's no diphthong like in the English version. Compare how the English reporter says it, versus everyone else. He's saying sigh-mon with a diphthong, when everyone else says sea-mon.

Linda is saying her son's name in Spanish, so the vowels are slightly different, but the most noticeable difference is that she stresses the second syllable, so she says sea-MON, when everyone else says SEA-mon. Keep the stress on the first syllable. However, there are no diphthongs in Spanish either, but I've heard a lot of reactors or podcasters pronounce his name as "sea-moan", and I have no idea where that comes from. Please don't. You're killing me. Just think of him as Simon the Sea-monster.
