Some of my Favorite Winx Club ships (cannon and non cannon)
Cannon: 1: Musa/Riven (Rivusa)
#1 Rivusa defender even whilst being 6 feet under in my grave. These two have ALWAYS been my fav couple (even when I was lil kid.) I just love them so much. Sure, they had their bad times but they've also had plenty of good ones too. I'm going to stop myself there because if I type any further about these two I'm going to end up making this post much more longer than it needs to be😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2: Flora/Helia (Floreila)
If I don't have a relationship like Flora and Helia's then I don't want it. Seriously, these two are so adorable. Helia literally worships the ground Flora walks on. Their relationship is so healthy and just overall green flags everywhere. And back in s2 when they were crushing on each other was the cutest omg, they're both so pure and full of love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3: Stella/Brandon (Brella)
The trust that these two have for each other in this relationship is so beautiful. Brandon and Stella compliment each other PERFECTLY. They both would sacrifice themselves at any costs for each other. They have such a beautiful and selfless bond, always willing to protect one another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Non cannon: 1: Musa/Layla/Aisha (Soundwave)
Layla had a big fat crush on Musa during seasons 2-3, and NO ONE will EVER change my mind. I already hc Layla as a lesbian too (don't get me wrong her and Nabu were awesome but I think that they'd be better off as friends/a platonic pairing. )They'd both be such a healthy couple and they had soo much chemistry. They'd both be extremely supportive of each others goals and dreams. They were literally each other's comfort person throughout s2-3. They care about each other so much. Plus, we need more POC wlw representation in media.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2: Lucy/Mirta (Unsure of their ship name)
They're gfs your honor, that's all I have to say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3: Faragonda/Griffin (Unsure of their ship name)
WIVES.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4: Palladium/Avalon (Unsure of their ship name 😭)
They had more chemistry than Bloom and Sky ever did 🙄(Sorry, not sorry Bloom/Sky shippers) Also, idgaf what the comics say yall.

I wouldn't really agree that boys are just arm candy in magical girl shows and only there to look cute. Yeah, sure the girls' friendships are the focus, but the boys are usually very much involved in the plot and most shows do explore their feelings about the odd things that happen due to magical shenanigans even if they aren't in the know (It's why ML baffles me even more with how they screwed up Adren's arc when he's the deuteragonist, when all these boys are supporting cast and get well rounded arcs)
I'm not much of a winx fan, but the specialists were very much not arm candy. Did the girls talk about them being cute? Yes, it's what teenage girls do. Did the narrative suggest they were good looking? Yes, but that's standard for most love interests in any genre. But we still got scenes with them talking amongst themselves about how they themselves feel and they got a fair share of badass fight scenes even if they wield no magic. A large amount of episodes actually included the boys and girls working as a team solving a mystery or fighting a villain. The girls might deal the finishing blow but the boys were still integral to the plot.
I hope this doesn't come across as hate, it definitely wasn't my intention. I'm just a bit too passionate about the magical girl genre.
I do think you have a good point with ML having a problem choosing a genre or blending two genres successfully.
For the CCS fans, I will add though that Cardcaptor Sakura had both Tomoyo and Syaoran serve as sources of motivation for Sakura. And both Sakura and Syaoran collecting cards even if Sakura is the only one who could seal them and yet never made you question whether Syaoran was even necessary for the job the way ml does with Chat.
I wasn't trying to say that boys have no part to play in magical girl team shows or that they're always treated as having no lives beyond the girls, that's why I mentioned that the Winx Club boys - aka, the Specialists - have their own (mostly off screen) lives and occasionally show up help the girls:
the boys are usually off doing their own thing and only occasionally show up for a date or to give the girls a ride on their cool bikes or magical spaceship
Even then, this is certainly a simplification of the roles that they play in the story, but I kind of had to simplify their roles down to their base components for the original post's discussion as I was talking in broad strokes of how these stories are written.
In terms of those broad strokes, the Specialists are absolutely only there for shipping fodder. That's why each one is assigned to a girl from the start and why their main role in the narrative is supporting their assigned love interest or causing relationship-based drama for their assigned love interest. If it weren't for shipping, then the Specialists would not exist.
While the Specialists do have fleshed out characters and may even effect the plot, the execution of those elements is designed around the girls. A really obvious example of this is the character Timmy, who has character development as the boy's tech guy. Why is he into technology? Because he's the designated love interest for the fairy of Technology and we have to show why they're a good match. Along similar lines, the boys don't really get plots that are removed from the girls because this is the girl's show. Every episode features one or more of the Winx, but the boys are optional and often don't appear.
This is because, narratively speaking, the boys are just love interests and that brings us back to Miraculous' big problem. You can't have a show where Adrien is written like a Specialist while also being part of the Winx Club and where Alya is written like she's part of the Winx Club while technically being more of a Specialist in terms of power set and actual narrative role.
I'm was thinking back to my memories of various Winx Club plots to find one that really highlighted what I mean here and I remembered that one of the big dramas in season one was the reveal that Bloom's love interest - Sky - was in an arranged marriage and had just never told her. As it turns out, that's a great example of what I'm talking about re Adrien!
Is that plot line technically based around Sky and letting his life effect the plot? Sure, but the fallout of that reveal revolves around Bloom, not Sky. The story doesn't really care how Sky's feeling as the conflict progresses. Instead, it focuses on how it affects Bloom and her friends because of course it does! She's the main character. It would be really weird if that plot suddenly focused on her side character love interest and his friends during one of her darkest hours/biggest moments.
Think of that and then consider how the ending of season five is written. Notice any similarities? Sure, this is Adrien's family drama, but because he's just a Specialist, the focus isn't on him. It's on Winx Club member Marinette and Adrien only shows up at the end for a kiss. That is the problem. That is what I'm talking about when I say that Miraculous will randomly write him as if we're watching a magical girl team show where Adrien is just the love interest.
In fact, let's really dig into this example because it's a good one.
You can have a look at the transcript for the finale episode of Miraculous season five here and see for yourself that Adrien doesn't even show up on screen until the final scenes when the big drama is over. The Winx Club wiki also has episode transcripts, so I took a look to see what happened in Winx land during the arranged marriage reveal plot (I love that this is a thing. It's so useful for fact checking myself!) This is the script for the episode after Bloom learns the truth. Sky does not appear even though his lies and family drama are the fuel for this episode's events, which are a major part of the season's arc. Note how perfectly that matches Adrien's writing?
Similarly, Sky's dialogue in the reveal episode is all about Bloom. He's worried about her learning the truth and thinking less of him. To match that, here's Adrien's only real dialogue in the penultimate episode of season five (full transcript):
Adrien:(Covers his ears.) I cannot transform... (Looks at his ring and tries taking it off.) Plagg: What are you doing?! Adrien: I'm not in my right mind. I'm too angry — at myself for falling short of Marinette's love, at my father for sending me here in London, at this stupid app and these rings that use my image... it makes me sick! This nightmare is giving me the horrible feeling that, if I transform, I'll get akumatized and destroy everything with my Cataclysm — Marinette, Ladybug... (Takes off the ring and hands it to Plagg.)
Switching back to Winx. After Bloom learns the truth about Sky, bad things happen because she's depressed. This results in her and the Winx going off on a journey to learn the truth of who Bloom is. After the girls share this big plot moment and Bloom gets her mojo back, the boys show up to be their ride home and to give Bloom her romance moment where Sky wins her back by declaring that he broke off the arranged married because he loves her.
Sky notably doesn't get an arc about choosing between his arranged marriage and his true love. We don't even know that the marriage is broken off until he tells Bloom because that was never really a conflict as far as the narrative was concerned. Of course he's going to pick Bloom! He's her designated side character love interest! He only exists to be with her. We don't need to treat this as a serious thing for him. The arranged marriage plot was never about him anyway. It was about giving Bloom a reason to have a darkest hour moment that moves the plot forward. Similarly, Sky calling off the marriage is nowhere near as important as him telling Bloom that he's called off the marriage to be with her in a grand romantic gesture.
This perfectly mirrors Miraculous' season five ending where Adrien doesn't appear until after Marinette is done fighting her big girl power fight against his father. As far as the writing is concerned, that fight isn't about him. His connection to the villain only really matters in terms of how it affects Marinette's actions during the final battle. Then, when the battle is over, Adrien shows up to give Marinette her big romance moment because, while the plot may be driven by Adrien's family, he is not a Winx club member. He's just a Specialist. Or, in the words of the head writer:

[image text: She's Barbie, he's Ken. You don't like it. I get it. It won't change. Anything else?] (The full, even more damning context of this tweet can be found here.)
What else can I say other than, "I rest my case."
Oh, and also that I didn't take this as an attack. I just thought it was a good opportunity to really dig into the nuances of this and what I was talking about in that original post as I never know how obvious this stuff is if you don't closely study story telling. As this case study hopefully shows, if a show is about a group of girl friends using the power of friendship, then their love interests may have important roles, but the boys are never going to be more important than the girls and most of the boy's screen time will be focused on romance and how their existence effects the girls because it's ultimately the girls' world. Without them, the show wouldn't exist. Without the boys? Well, then we just wouldn't have a romance plot.

Can you do a Winx headcanon post about how Winx characters little siblings feel about their older siblings partner[I don't know if I phrased that right]
Example :Riven's little sister, Sherly's feelings towards Riven's relationship with Musa.
ooooohhhhhh
Kay here goes (I’ll also do Zila and Thyler though they’re older siblings)
Chimera hasn’t gotten a lot of chances to interact with Brandon one on one, but she thinks he’s cool and is low-key jealous of how much he protects and respects Stella and how he always is right at her side and hyping her up. She wants someone like that. She’s probably the only sibling to straight up be like, I want a relationship like that, when looking at her big sister
Brandon’s sisters all adore Stella and very much already see her as a sister, Brandon jokes they’d totally chose Stella over him anytime, they are very close. Brandon’s sisters all think the world of Stella and have learned a lot from her in terms of how to dress and hairstyles
Helia won over Mielle by making her magic origami and volunteering as a human step stool, Mielle loves being carried around. Mielle is still quite little so as soon as she saw how happy Helia made Flora and how he was a potential human jungle gym, she was like, yeah that’s enough for me
Shirley was hesitant of Musa at first, mostly due to past experiences and not being very used to trusting people to begin with (not to mention Riven’s past… lack of judgement) but she was slowly won over before they ever got together just by watching them together and realizing that Musa in some ways was just as guarded as Riven and that the two are really two birds of a feather and that they did each other good
Naten ADORED Timmy from the moment they met and has made it very much known that he will not accept anyone else as a brother-in-law (he totally requested relationship updates anytime he talked to Tecna in s1 and 2). Timmy takes Naten seriously when he gets curious about how Specialist weapons works and lets himself get bullied into joining in on lightning farming and from that moment Naten was like; Tecna you are marrying him
Zila thinks Timmy is the cutest and finds his crush on Tecna just very endearing, she totally has a soft spot for him and sees him as a little brother, she’s rooting for them just in a more subtle way than Naten, she always makes sure to compliment him cause she knows he doesn’t always get the praise he deserves
Thyler doesn’t really have a relationship with Tecna at all. He absolutely did not get at all what Timmy saw in her at first and just thought she was weird and that she didn’t reciprocate Timmy’s feelings. He probably tried to dissuade Timmy from his feelings in s1 and the start of s2 cause he didn’t want his brother to end up heartbroken. But, after watching them and having Tecna join them for a few family dinners, he sees that the crush is actually reciprocated and eventually his mindset changes into a; yeah she’s weird, but my bro is weird too, if being weird together will make them happy then go for it. Their relationship is more like- causal and teasing than anything, but he approves and even encourages it now, especially after seeing just how much Timmy loves her in s3, he was turned into a full supporter, even if he doesn’t always get their relationship
^picture the Bridgertons watching Francesca and John in s3, that’s Timmy’s family watching those two. Their neurotypical asses don’t get it but they’re supportive (at least post-Omega debacle)

Summary: Alfea is great - as magical and frightening and beautiful as she imagined. The only downside is, it's not all that different from Earth. People didn't like Bloom asking so many questions there, either. In which Bloom decides to take matters into her own hands, and earns herself a couple of Super Secret Study Buddies.
Author: @dragonflyxparodies
Note from submitter: This fic is the start of a LONG series deconstructing the winx club universe/government in general. It has some CRAZY good worldbuilding and while it definitely takes a darker tone of the whole thing it feels very well thought out and not grim dark for grim dark's sake. Highly recommend for anyone who loved the series I think their Bloom is so cool!!!

Power of Silence: Musa's Voice Loss Arc in Season 6
While rewatching Season 6 and getting to the episodes where Musa loses her voice due to Rumpelstiltskin, following Selina's command, I couldn't help but wonder if there might be a deeper meaning to this particular arc.
It's often said that when you lose something very important to you—whether it's your health, a loved one, or your fortune—only then you're likely to gain a new perspective on life. Events like these force you to take the time to reflect, become more perceptive, and reorganize your priorities.
In Musa's case, her voice, described as powerful and rare in nature, along with her perfect pitch I imagine, is likely something she can't imagine her life without. I dare say these two complement her as a human and a fairy. When she loses her voice, she's quite devastated, and feels vulnerable. However, she still manages to conduct an orchestra and create a magic shield powerful enough to protect her school, so it's obvious she can still thrive without being able to speak.
The voice loss arc turns out to be crucial for Musa and Riven. First, let me quote what Riven said:
Riven: Musa, that was incredible! I mean it! Even without a voice, you put on the most amazing concert. You saved Alfea. I just wish I could be half as remarkable as you. I wasn't able to save your voice, and I couldn't be there for you once it was gone. You deserve better. (...) Musa, there's something I've been meaning to get off my chest. I'm supposed to be there for you every day, to support you and protect you as a Specialist and as your boyfriend. But right now, I'm just not capable of doing either one of those things. (S6, EP23)
What I'd like to emphasize is that I can imagine Musa would have interrupted Riven right away in the past, expressing her unwillingness to see him or something. However, now she can't do that, and she's somewhat compelled to listen to what he's saying. This situation forces her to pause and listen attentively, gaining a deeper understanding of Riven's sentiments. Additionally, Riven might feel it's his opportunity to speak and convey his feelings, now that he has a chance to be heard. In this moment it's his turn to fill the silence with something he has to say. And what he says is connected to how he currently feels about himself as well:
Riven to Sky: I give up. You will always be the leader of the Specialists. And I will always be runner-up. (...) It's not just this match, Sky. No matter how hard I try, or how close I get, I always come up short. If I don't change something, I'll never reach the top. (S6, EP23)
Riven to Musa: I guess I just have to figure out a way to be a hero to myself, if that makes sense. You always got me, Musa. (S6, EP23)
I must confess, I was moved when Riven mentioned that he needed to find a way to be a hero to himself. This single line serves as further evidence of his internal struggle, where his ambitions clash with the deep-seated issues of low self-esteem and an inferiority complex. It seems that witnessing his girlfriend lose something precious, and being powerless to help her, became a breaking point for him. In the private moment they share, he admits that he is far from being the person he aspires to be—not just for her but for himself as well. This revelation underscores the depth of trust he places in her. He can reveal his vulnerability when Musa's around, so there is a profound beauty in that scene.
Despite the numerous plot absurdities, with the season feeling very disconnected from S5 or S4 as if the previous seasons never happened, and acknowledging that the arc itself could have been explored more effectively (I won't delve into the entire portrayal of Rivusa in Season 6 and its issues), the core concept of Musa losing her voice was still commendable and essential in my opinion.

Musa/Stormy Relationship Headcanons:
They don't really do the whole "pet name" thing, stormy just thinks its lame and cringe and Musa doesn't give much of a damn. They do call each other 'babe' sometimes though
They challenge each other to magical games/duels, testing each other's skills and playfully teasing each others abilities and whatnot. (They love to tease each other)
They sneak out to Magix to hang out at a lot of clubs and parties late at night, and return pretty early in the morning. They both get drunk pretty quickly and pass out in around the same time range
Stormy secretly attends all of Musa's concerts and takes great pride in Musa's musical talents, she'll show her off whenever she gets the chance
Mess with Musa, and Stormy's going to make you sorry. Seriously though, if you've got a problem with Musa then you now also have a problem with Stormy
These two are big on physical touch. (Holding hands, cuddling, sitting in each other's laps'... you name it. ) They also appreciate spending quality time together, even if that just means being in the same room as the other when working on homework, or scrolling through social media right beside each other
Stormy is a big flirt, and often leaves Musa quite flushed. Musa flirts back, she's just a bit awkward at it (which Stormy finds adorable.)
Stormy dresses more feminine, while Musa leans tomboy, but they sometimes share clothes since they're around the same size. They like to go shopping for one and other
Both of them hate it when they don't get their way, and get pretty moody. They can easily snap/lash out at the other, which leads to plenty of arguments. Usually, after an argument they storm off to sit in silence and cool off. Within a half hour or so, they act as if nothing happened though, and return to normal
Stormy doesn't really cook, she just eats whatever (mostly junk food) which concerns Musa, so she usually cooks for the both of them. Stormy happily stands in the kitchen (being useless lol) watching Musa prepare the food. She also serves as a distraction purpose though 👀 and likes to wrap her arms around Musa whenever she's cooking
I've got more hcs (that I could post if anybody wanted!), these are just some of them :)

The couple of Sky and Bloom is something to debate for me... Obviously I'm speaking from a more adult point of view. We had right to many important things in Winx. But also, there are some things that aren't phew....
Since my childhood, I noticed that sky and bloom's relationship was something very, very toxic. There wasn't really a time where he loved himself and showed it publicly. I really had the impression that it was more appearance than reality.
Tumblr media
Have you noticed that Bloom has more affinity with many other people than with sky who is supposed to be the perfect representation for her? Have you noticed that Sky is jealous when Bloom interacts with another boy? Or that the series normalizes sky's behavior with Diaspro?
Tumblr media
Bloom, who is a strong and independent girl, quickly becomes less independent and less happy. I didn't particularly like Bloom, but that doesn't stop me from seeing her character become bland and uninteresting. The toxicity of a relationship often does this. In addition, I don't mention what's wrong with the rest of the relationship because it would be endless!
Tumblr media
The representation of the couple that Bloom and Sky form is problematic and normalizes toxic relationships for young children or at least unhealthy behaviors within a relationship. I find this distressing knowing that the Winx knew how to build good relationships! Relationships such as Nabu and Leila, Stella and Brandon or even Helia and Flora.
Tumblr media
Let's be clear, I'm not talking about a perfect relationship, but a healthy relationship, which is very different!
What do you think ?

I know this has been asked before but what's your favorite scene for each couple you've written so far
Bloom and Sky- Their talk after Sky tells the truth of his curse season 3, Chapter 34; The Truth is a Grotesque Animal
I just feel it captures how despite loving each other so much, things just keep getting in the way and (in a parallel with Daphne and Valtor) they are also a tragedy
Stella and Brandon- I don’t think I have a specific one but if I had to chose their moment in Season 4, Chapter 2; Love or Like, It’s Like Hide and Seek
It’s just very domestic and shows how much they just get each other. Also Brandon loving it when he gets to see Stella with her glasses is UUUGGGHHHH- they’re the cutest
Flora and Helia- I’m between the love confession in Season 2, Chapter 34; See the Light and… their scene in Season 3, Chapter 27; Show me the Places Where the Others Gave you Scars. Also, honorable mention to their moment in Season 3, Chapter 31: I’ll Stare Directly at the Sun but Never in the Mirror
They’re just so soft, I love writing for them but these 3 specifically where just… ugh- love it
Musa and Riven- I got 3 favorite scenes, first Season 1, Chapter 21; Lightning can Strike Twice, when they’re at Zenith because I feel like this is the first time they truly connect. Then, Season 2, Chapter 40; But Tonight I’ll be the Happiest Girl in the World, you’ll see, Like it Never Happened, since this is when they get together.
But THE SCENE for them is season 3, Chapter 45; Fairy Soiree, because this is when they realize that they’re in it for the long haul and they’re finally learning to communicate and it was just very soft and fun to write
Tecna and Timmy- there is only one possible option here, their talk in Season 3, Chapter 39; Would You Hold Me and Just Forget the World? Because I feel like it’s these two at their purest and the best way to see their relationship and what they mean to each other
I just loved writing that scene for them
Aisha and Nabu- their scene in Season 3, Chapter 27; Show me the Places Where the Others Gave you Scars, since this is when Aisha first realizes that she’s falling in love with Nabu
Honorable mention to Nabu backing her up when she goes up against her mom in Season 3, Chapter 57: Things Work Out, Except for the Ones that Just Won’t
