a night full of firsts : what a first date with first aid would be like (sfw!)

i) you weren't his first date ( he had dated a couple of times back in medical school, but that had been ages ago ), but you were his first date on earth. first aid had idled outside the door of the restaurant for about ten minutes, constantly re-checking the screen of his mobile phone — which, in his opinion, was ridiculous to carry around — to double and triple check your picture. he was fidgeting, servos twitchy as he entered the place. the funny bit was you had witnessed the whole thing, the wide, clear window giving you a full view of first aid desperately trying to soothe his nerves ( you tell him this months after and he nearly breaks apart from shame. )

ii) first contact had been established for nearly a decade now, and humans were surprisingly quick to assimilate. if anything, none of the patrons bat an eye at his presence — red and white metal, shining under the golden glow of the lights. there were only five other bots inside the place, including him. and when he was the only one obviously on a date, first aid felt singled out if not scrutinized. with a more integral involvement in the council of worlds, the people of this little green planet had opened themselves slowly to the idea of 'interspecies relationships.' it was only a matter of time before someone created a dating app specialized for that. ( the secondhand embarrassment in asking velocity to help him create his profile pales in comparison to the shame he felt when he saw so many of his friends there.) less than a week of being on there scrolling, the two of you had matched. and the sweet little messages had boiled down to this very moment: you sitting across him, cheeks dusted pink. he averted his optics, suddenly feeling shy for the first time in a long time.

iii) the first hour went smoothly, with a few bumps along the way such as the occasional slip-ups and misunderstanding — you had accidentally asked him if he thinks the carbonara is better than the aglio e olio while he had slipped and accidentally called your eyes 'fascinating' instead of 'beautiful'. those he could laugh off.

until you had wondered aloud at how interesting it was that humans and cybertronians were so similar. and off-handedly, out of instinct, the medic had responded with : more than you think.

you had a playful glint in your eyes when you responded, lifting the wine glass to your lips, ' is that a promise?'

at the innuendo, his already nervous knee had jerked upwards and bumped the underside of the table, knocking the glass of water all over the surface. he immediately stood up, reaching to undo the damage by plucking the glass, only to have one of the table cloths snag in the seam of his knee. in an instant, the plates and cutlery had toppled over, loudly crashing onto the floor. but he didn't even have the time to react, the candle — which in his opinion was an evil, dangerous, thing to have on a dinner table and nowhere romantic — had set several of the napkins on fire. a dozen frightened patrons and one, messy fire extinguisher later, first aid had yanked you out of your seat and away from the chaos. this was the first time, first aid wished — what was the human saying ? for the earth to swallow him up? judging from how your clothes were most likely irreversibly damaged by the wine and pasta, disappearing was the best option.

iv) he knows ratchet was trying not to laugh at the story, failing miserably the moment he excused himself out of the room to ( not so discreetly ) tell his conjunx about the incident. velocity gave him a pitying smile, even if she was hiding her amusement. he told her that he was never going to see you again — that he ruined a beautiful night with a beautiful person over a stupid accident. considering that he was flustered enough to disappear without a word. until you had showed up by the receptionist's desk, worried hands wrung together as you asked one of the nurses for him.

at the sight of him, your eyes lit up. this was the first time first aid found himself at a loss for words, spark racing as you explained to him how you were more worried about how he had deleted the app the morning after and left without a word. determined not to get ghosted by someone who clearly enjoyed the night, you had tracked him down to ask him for another date.

' this time,' you had cleared your throat, ' i can prepare us dinner back at mines and actually make sure there'll be no candles around. if you'd want, that is ?'

he was glad he had his mouth guard up because he could feel himself grinning, velocity in the back already calling swerve to break to him the news.

'yes,' first aid answered, ' i'd like that.'

I'm old and tired, and kids these days would probably label me a "proshipper" as I believe there is way more nuance to this entire thing than simply the black and white mindset that the internet & fandom communities have shifted to over time. I do not condone any taboo or problematic content IRL. But it is not my place, or my right to tell others what they can and cannot do in fiction/fantasy. It's unrealistic to believe that anything created that holds taboo or problematic content means the one who created it condones it IRL. This falls along the same kind of mindset mostly conservative parents spat that "violent video games make people violent", which we all know is not true. Censoring problematic content will not stop people from creating it. They will just create it where you cannot see it, which in turn could make it harder to find, and harder to stop when actual harm is dealt. Can fictional/fantasy content affect reality? Sure! I will never say otherwise. But to believe that it always does is, again, unrealistic, and assuming that most people cannot differentiate between the two. Fiction and fantasy were created for people to be able to entertain ourselves, and to explore topics that we never would, or were impossible, in the real world in the safety of our minds and spaces we created. The actions of those who use fictional content as a reason to do taboo and problematic things in real life is entirely on them, and they need to seek professional help for their paraphilias, or harmful actions. If something... - happens between two(or more) consenting ADULTS - makes someone happy - does not harm themselves or anyone/anything IRL ...then what other people do is none of my business.

good morning the colosseum hyperfocus continues. i’m gonna grab some light breakfast and then it’s time for mt battle’s battle mode for ho-oh (this is my first time ever doing it)

this is the team! i did the entire shadow purification grind without connecting to my GBA and i want to see if it’s possible to do mt battle without it too, so these are all my story pokemon from playing colosseum normally. i’m happy i kept the starter espeon and umbreon on the team lol. i chose not to use the legendary beasts because eh i’ve used those in playthroughs before and i just didn’t want to this time. i’m going to be playing doubles because this team was built for doubles for obvious reasons

by the time i finished catching and purifying every shadow pokemon, my flygon was level 66 but the rest of my team was between 60-63, so i had some grinding to do bc all my pokemon need to be the same level for this. i got all their levels equal last night by battling in all the various colosseums for completion’s sake - i don’t think i missed any? and this is how i got shadow ball on metagross for example, bc of the TM rewards

to be honest i’ve grown attached to this team in a way i haven’t with any colosseum team before despite playing this game multiple times. i’ve never really done the postgame for colosseum fully and as a result i’ve never put this much effort into movesets and generally thinking about my team because i haven’t had to - but unless i wanted to make my grind even more miserable, i needed to to take out overleveled opponents. and that’s been a blast for me! the slow incrementation of my team has led to really rewarding battles where i feel massive brain bc everything is always stronger than you 😭

i don’t think the novelty would still be there if i did this again, at least not anytime soon, because colo’s teambuilding options are limited due to the lack of viable pokemon to choose from, and also that shadow purification grind is a nightmare straight from hell (i had fun with it bc i like video game grinding but doing it twice in a row might destroy even me lol) but this time it was really fun!!

colosseum is really like if the indigo disc DLC was an entire video game (high compliment bc i loved ID) and you also didn’t have access to easy grinding/resources in general so you really have to think about the choices you make and how you spend your time. i was thinking so far ahead while using TMs and there’s no move reminder in this game so i had to think carefully about levelup moves as well. you have no idea how long i lingered on whether or not i should delete confuse ray on umbreon, etc 😭 this game reminds me how much i love double battles and i wish there was more singleplayer double battle content in pokemon a lot

anyway i’m just rambling at this point but i’m excited to take this team to the finish line :)

What this mod doesn’t do …

Hide any CC, such as recolors, that use these meshes or files. They will appear as normal.

Delete, hide, or make invisible anything that has already been placed, or is included with premade lots such as ones from the Gallery.

Delete any files from your game or computer. It just hides them!

What this mod will conflict with …

Anything that replaces or overrides the same items that are included in this file.

An easy way to tell if you have conflicting mods is to run the Package Conflict Detector program which will easily tell you if there’s a problem.

How do I unhide something?

Open the .package file in Sims4Studio to double-check it’s the item you want to keep. (optional)

Delete the .package file.

The item will now be displayed in the build / buy catalog again.

How do I unhide only certain swatches of something?

Method 1:

Open the .package file in Sims4Studio.

Click on the swatch you want to unhide and click “Remove Swatch” in the upper right hand corner.

Remember to save!

The item will now be displayed in the build / buy catalog again.

Method 2:

This method is slightly more complex, but this is normally what I use as it allows me to change the categories, tags, price, etc. on the item as if it were CC. It will appear in your game with the CC mark on it. It also means if you would like to return to hiding the file, you can just delete the cloned file instead of redownloading this mod to get the full hider to use again.

Open Sims4Studio.

Under the “Object” section, select “Standalone Recolor”.

Find the object you wish to keep. You can type the item’s title in the search bar to find it easily. Click the thumbnail, then click “Next” on the bottom right.

Type a title for the .package file and click “Save”.

You will be taken to a screen where you can freely edit the object���s title, description, price, categories, tags, etc. You can delete the swatches you don’t want on the top bar.

Click on the swatch(es) you don’t want and click “Remove Swatch” in the upper right hand corner.

Remember to save!

The cloned item will now be displayed in the build / buy catalog along with your customizations.

fire emblem, or, as i like to call it, the game where you can make no mistakes and still lose. yeah i'm fucking mad but whatever, i did it.

this chapter really isn't THAT bad, i feel like the strategies for dealing with everything are fairly apparent. i just got some really dogshit luck on multiple attempts (3 60% attacks in a row missed and then in a separate attempt 2 90% attacks missed 🤪) so it really soured the shit out of my mood. the basic strategy you want to use is send two cavs + hector + priscilla and one other unit (in my case, it was guy) to the north, send matthew to the west and give him a buddy unit to kill the shaman unless your matthew has gotten stupidly good (or you just want to roll dice loaded against you 3-4 turns in), leave two of your units (one of them should preferably be lyn) behind to deal with the cav + nomad reinforcements. lyn benefits greatly from mani katti here and will nail kills she otherwise has next to no business getting. in a bizarre twist of fate, my lyn has 14 strength and 13 speed. can't tell if i should be arguing that she's blessed in strength or getting burned in speed. probably both.

speaking of level ups, i feel like i got an okay assortment of them. feel like i'm getting mostly average level ups in that people are getting the stats they should be (i.e. florina's getting speed and resistance, hector's getting strength and defense, lowen's getting whatever + defense), and while i wish i was getting ever so slightly better level ups on people like guy (he's always juuuuuust shy of 1RKOing and can't double with the iron blade), i feel like i should largely have no complaints. kent's basically caught up as well, low on skill but skill is a meme stat.

the biggest annoyance of the map is the thieves that spawn in the north. one of them will just fuck off (i assume this is because it's there to go for the chests to the west that i always end up getting before he's even a presence), but the other one is a super asshole. on my previous attempts i was able to intercept him and kill him before he looted more than one chest (meaning you can still get all the treasure), but in the one that beat the chapter, the little cunt got to the silver sword then the knight crest, meaning i lost the silver sword. the only positive i can say is that he never does the reverse (which would be a colossal hit (that i would reset over)), and the silver sword is only 1500 gold. but it's really just the principle of the matter. way more annoyed about it than i really should be but i'll survive.

people shit on lucius but he does one solid thing, regardless of whether or not you used him in lyn mode: he's able to lure out one of the knights in bernard's room and kill it with a 3HKO. it's nothing impressive but it's something. meanwhile, his boyfriend raven unfortunately wasn't able to do much for me since i needed him to recruit lucius. he doesn't need experience that badly for now, but the sooner i can make him a frontliner, the better. he is one of the stars of HHM after all.

speaking of bernard's room! capital F FUCK that mage in that room. dude's a gigantic fuck and i wish the worst on him.

bernard himself was very "whatever" to kill. hector with wolf beil deleted him in 2 hits. i would've vastly preferred to get the kill with someone else, as hector's about to hit level 15 (which is fairly overleveled compared to the rest of my units and enemies in the current chapters + i don't need him hitting 20 early), but there were no really good options out of the people available (eliwood, kent, guy, lowen). eliwood could've maybe done some damage, but the rapier only has 4 uses and eliwood isn't as reliable as ol' hector.

i am grouchy and bitchy rn, but i'll probably wake up pretty happy with how things turned out. i was very worried about hitting both tactics and experience goals, so to clear both that well is very fortunate. i'm at the point where i need to start cycling some units out (i.e. lowen), and i'd like to make use of rebecca/bartre but it's hard to catch them up. maybe pirate ship will be kind to them. but you know what chapter isn't going to be kind to me? the next one! not looking forward to port of badon, but at least it's got double the turns for 5 star compared to HNM (seriously, fuck doing that chapter in 5 turns). also gonna have to decide how many units i want to bring just for the premise of using them in the arena. erk in the arena for experience buffering is extremely tempting. i'll meditate on it.

I usually get a picture or grab a screencap with a good enough quality, open it in Photoshop, and based on its complexity I select the object with my Pen tool, brush tool (on a layer mask), or some combinations of these with other selection tools (magic wand/quick selection tool) - most of the times it is a combination of all of the above. 😅 (watch this tutorial if you want to cut out a subject that is a more difficult shape e.g. messy hair, but there is a contrast between the subject and the background)

I don't erase the background: I cut the object using the layer mask, in case I need to add/get rid of some pixels after colouring and resizing the picture, and it’s also a tremendous help when I use different tools to remove the backgrund.

2. COLOURING

When I have my subject cut out, I create a new file in 150x150px, drag and drop the subject's layer and resize it with the Ctrl+T just to have the freedom to decide which parts to be included in the icon or in case I want more versions of the same picture, just like here (also don’t forget to delete the background by double clicking on it >> Enter >> Del) :

This is when I add/remove pixels on the layer mask if needed, and use some basic colouring on the picture, the layers added as a clipping mask so it will only affect the layer of the subject.

3. ADDING THE BACKGROUND + MORE COLOURING

Then I add some gradient and texture layers below my subject's layer, and in the blending options I add some drop shadow to my subject's layer. (If you're aiming for a more complex icon, there are icon textures around the internet too, here is one.)

To make the picture blend into the background more smoothly I usually add some adjustment layers as a clipping mask to the subject's layer to adjust the colours more to the background, and/or add some more adjustment layers on the top of all the layers (not as a clipping mask) that will affect the background and the subject as well.

+1 CHANGING THE COLOURS

If I want to blend my subject's clothes more with the background, I add a Solid color layer as a clipping mask somewhere over my subject's layer, using the Eyedropper tool I choose a colour from the background (or something around it), I set the mode to Colour, with the layer mask I remove everything I don’t want to colour, and if needed, I add another layer with Soft Light or another mode that works with my picture.

That's how I changed Javi's originally orange shirt for this set:

Sometimes I add a bit of a smart sharpen on my subject's layer with some fading, so it's not that aggressive, then I save the icon in a PNG format.

WIP - Bathhouse - 二天 & 天

Yesterday I worked on the upper floors of the Bathhouse from Spirited Away.

When I build, I like to do the interior and exterior side by side. It helps me maintain the flow of the interior and the visual of the exterior, especially in a build like this where the two may not actually. Yesterday I mostly worked on the interior.

Due to the nature of this build, it contains spoilers for the movie Spirited Away and images of emotional moments. Because of this, and how long this post is, I've added the keep reading.

On the way to 天, the elevator that Chihiro and the Radish Spirit take stops at 二天. Translated literally as Heaven and Second Heaven, the subs I watched called them Sky and Second Sky. My folders are named for the subs, but I really enjoy the imagery of these floors being called Heaven.

Either way.

The elevator door opens on 二天 to this long hall of shoji, back-lit to show patrons inside the rooms. I love this scene. It's only a few frames of the movie and is never mentioned again, but it has so much ambiance I needed it for my build.

Obviously a WIP, I was so excited to find a solution for the spandrels I could live with. The in-game options were sending me up a wall. These, and I'm calling them spandrels because I don't have a better word for them, are to me very specific in a few ways: 1) they're a dark wood tone, 2) they have small, vertical slits that allow light though and 3) they come down to the top of the shoji.

I had a couple options for spandrels that weren't solid, but they were either filled in with paper (SE) or were horizontal (CC).

So I made my own. They're not finalized because I have to fight with them a little bit still. The CC beams I'm using are best placed against a wall which I then delete, but this means they're slightly off center from the vertical lines on the wall as seen on the farther set. I can 'center' them by doubling up, as seen on the closer one, but that's not quite right. I could probably manage it with TOOL? For a WIP though, I'm thrilled. I'm also thrilled I could get the 4 shoji per beam right, and being able to paint the ceilings has made this so much better.

Looking at it right now, I can only see the little things I need to change - the floor needs to be rotated, and likely switched completely, and the shoji aren't quite right. There's a lack of shoes of the floor, the lights hang from the ceiling rather than being flush against them, and I haven't added the signage to the spandrels yet.

Still, I'm pleased with it so far. I can't have a never-ending hallway because the lot won't allow for it, but I can have this hall turn onto another and another, so that sims will have a long hall to walk though.

I also did some fun stuff in Yubaba's quarters on the 天 floor.

There's this scene in her office with plenty of light, including this shot of the fireplace from behind her desks:

So I worked on this:

The actual furniture is coming together nicely, but what I was really excited about was the fireplace. The scale of the painting and the molding around it are so close. I wish I had a wider fireplace that suited, but this one is marble with a rounded cavity and a green insert, my main feature requirements.

Obviously it needs the rugs, and I can mostly only see the little things that are wrong - the tallest walls are still too short and the room can never be big enough due to lot restrictions. The size and type of vase needs to be changed and the doorways want columns and tweaked curtains. But I am feeling mighty validated in my CC hoarding since I had multiple pink chairs with rolled arms, and even the quickly found placeholder pillows are working well. I always wonder if I really need all those recolors, and the answer is yes I do.

I also did some work in the hallway that leads to this room. We get this shot in the film:

So I've been working on this:

The bright lighting on the walls isn't ideal, but I managed to get the pattern on the floor and the shadows casting from the alcoves onto it. I was also so excited that these columns came in a swatch with a green beam and a brown base.

Listing out all the CC in these WIPs would be impractical, especially since a fair amount of it is serving as a placeholder, but I'm happy to share any details about what I've used and plan on listing it out on more finalized spaces.

Tech, geez.... 

 My ipad won't charge and keeps disconnecting from the internet.

 My computer is finally uploading all the photos from last month to the cloud, but at the speed my internet runs it will take five days to do, during which time I can't use it at all. And by "it" I mean both the computer and my internet. As soon as it is done I'll spend all my time deleting photos to make space for more photos, what with being completely out of memory on the poor thing.

My phone has the worst data plan ever, and is low, low end anyway, so using it online is a pain.

My bluray player keeps trying to connect to the internet, with no way to shut that off. No matter what I watch a message pops up to say it isn't connected, and I can't even watch a movie without having to get up and unplug the player three or four times.

My ipod shuffle, my only way to listen to music since my ipod touch died a couple months ago, is starting to glitch and the switch won't turn it off anymore. My camera is getting worse and worse. And not just the old problems like moisture behind the lens and the ports all having failed.  It takes repeated tries to set it, but even  then the  settings randomly undo in the middle of taking a photo. Like, I put it on macro, click, and it resets to one of those silly “art” settings or whatever. And occasionally it erases the damn memory card!

Don't ask about streaming. Just don't. I love to watch/listen to new stuff BUT it has to be weighed against tech hell interrupting. I always have to double the time it will take.

One thing works right: Pop's old ipad with the shattered screen. Trouble is, because of apple crap and it having been a gift to Pop, I can't do any updates without erasing everything on it. I am not willing to let go of Pop's stuff. Which means it has had no updates since 2014, or actually 2012 I think. It no longer will even go to most websites without being updated. 

I can’t afford to replace anything. At this rate I am soon going to be as technologically advanced as someone in the 19th century! 

Actually, I am breaking out my old turn table for music, and I will always miss my old film camera. I MISS having prints and negatives of my photos!  I am one EMP away from losing every photo I’ve taken in the last 15yrs, esp. if I don’t have the money to renew my Amazon Prime** next month. 

**Look, I hate Amazon too, but Pop got Prime back in the day and I took advantage of the photo storage. Now I have close to 300,000 photos there, and no way to store them anywhere else. I am trapped, having to renew just  for my photos despite being too broke to afford it. It feels like a hostage situation. Renew or we will shoot all your darling little pics… Geez, I wish I were rich enough to have options. And prints of all my photos, while I’m at it. 

I’ve been finding old photos over 100 yrs old lying around the house, people long gone from living memory but moments from their life still smiling back at me. But all my photos, all these digital photos, will probably cease to exist soon after I do.  So I can see someone petting a cat in 1918, but no one 100 years from now is gonna stumble across one of my photos of Ryoga and go “OMG, Great Aunt Stephanie had such a cute pig!”
