Spoilers ahead, y'all!
Whilst I did make a post about timelines and possible magic and extension of life, somehow, the simple explanation escaped me completely. Especially as someone who lives in Norway, where Winter is half of the year.
When were Lila and Jaysohn born, if they knew their dad half their life? Early Winter. Geoffrey probably died sometime right before Spring, where the snow is still thick and the air still freezing. Let's say, if the plot of the story takes place in September-October, Geoffrey died in March-April, with the kids born around December-January. It would, actually, explain everything. We know, from Viola, that these stoats don't follow normal stoat mating patterns; Viola is having her kids in Autumn. Therefore, who's to say Tula couldn't have Lila and Jaysohn in Winter? They're sapient creatures, who can think and plan. We also get the small glimpse that Tula knows that they may have some control over when they get pregnant, but not always. Who's to say it didn't happen to her, too? What if, that Winter was where Tula gained so much, and nearly lost everything in one moment.
Although, I still believe Ava is overestimating her own age just so she can get away with more things.

Oc-tober day 8: Traditional clothing
Decided to be very self indulgent with this one and do Norway's traditional garment - the bunad! While fictional, the city Aurora Eline is from is basically a combination of scandinavia, so she's often the character I project the most "norwegianess" onto haha - I even gave her the same bunad I personally own :]

Norwegian Bunad Mermaid!
I received a ton of recommendations on mermaids to illustrate with historical fashion inspiration and I'm excited about it. A few of the requests were for a Scandinavian/Norwegian/Bunad mermaid and off I went. I found a really cute little article about bunads with some great reference specific to a coastal Norwegian area. I combined said reference with even more shell and sea details... and a fork for reasons... It was really fun and I think she turned out really cute!

Gratulerer med dagen! 🇧🇻🥳
I already wanted to draw Åse in Norwegian national costume and thought today would be a good time to post it. Today in Norway is the 17th of may witch is the Norwegian day of independence.
Art and design thoughts below
When Åse still lived in Norway, on days like these his family would probably go into Kapp and watch the festivities. When Åse was younger she would take part in the children’s parade. As he got older though, he’d skip out on the celebrations. Only sticking around long enough to swipe a piece of cake, then hiking up his skirt and going home for the day. He also was never a fan of the shoes, though thats more because they were rarely worn and thus tended chafe. this drawing is intended to take place while he's a teenager but might look a bit older than intended.😅
He probably doesent celebrate much after he moved and ran away from home but will buy himself a pastry from the local bakery and listen to some music.
Tumblr media
Also i'm not a clothing historian so take what im writing here with a grain of salt.
While the national costume of norway is the Bunad what Åse is wearing here would be closer to a Festdrakt (party outfit). Bunads are usually tied to a specififc place in Norway. Bunads in the way we know them today didn't really start appearing until the early 1900s. The festdrakt in comparison are outfits that dont usually have ties to specific places and can be personalized more or otherwise stray from the rules set in place by the regional bunads. The term festdrak was orignally coined in 1997 by Torunn Valland. I couldn't find any specific bunad for the area Åse lives in that was in use during the time she grew up there. So I decided to make my own design.
I took basis in already existing designs like the øst-telemark bunad. While Åse prefers more androgynous clothing he didn't start experimenting with his gender identity and expression before after he came to America. Considering how she and her mom were specifically good at tailoring they had the ability to design their outfits how they wanted them and I think Åse would relish the opportunity to make her own personalized outfit for a change instead of someone else's. I wanted this to be reflected in the embroidering as thats Åses favorite thing to do. I simplified it a bit for my own sanity when I draw it but in real life it would be covered with embroidered flowers and plants.
(source 1, 2) Sorry that most of my sources are in norwegian, but if youre an english speaker and want to learn more here's an articale that I think is pretty good.

are we expecting tiaras on all the guest at ML's wedding or just on the bride?
I have no idea what to expect with this wedding! I read that for the ceremony guests are encouraged to wear bunads and the dinner after will have a black tie dress code. That says to me no tiaras for guests at the wedding and a fifty/fifty chance for the dinner.
Tumblr media
As for the bride herself, I could see Princess Martha Louise forgoing a tiara to wear a flower crown or even something more out of the ordinary like a traditional Norwegian bridal crown. We are just going to have to wait and see.

Norway in a gender neutral bunad? Embla bunader on tiktok just announced more looks for gender neutral bunads and I think Norway would absolutely rock one
I've seen those! tbh I love the concept but I feel like they're missing out on some aspects of bunads that I really like. Bunads all belong to specific regions, but this new one is just general, and the choice of colours seem a bit odd to me. It's also knitted I think? I love knitted clothing, but it doesn't really scream bunad to me
The gender neutral bunad is the one to the left, and then I had a go at desgining a gender neutral bunad for my region at the right. Maybe I should have gone with the long trousers, but I really love the knee-length ones.
But really, I think I would love the gender neutral bunad so much more if the vest wasn't knitted and the colours were different ✨

As a norwegian who also adores older styles of clothes, I think it's so cool to see people from other countries love and appreciate them too! And your art is SO CUTE!!
If you are interested in Norwegian costumes we call ours bunad, and the more modern, not regulated versions people make for themselves is called fantastistakk, which uses traditional shapes and patterns, but with fabrics people have at home (or you can pay a lot and have someone make one for you, like Eva Lie Design, check her out her designs are gorgeous 😭).
Our "official" bunads are regional and have standards like which fabrics, which colours, which jewelry and which accessories they can have, the fantasistakks are very open and you can make them with whatever fabrics, colours and accessories you want.
The Bunad! I actually plan on drawing Norwegian dress next actually! It’s on my list for a long time. It was one of the cutest dresses i saw and i love each variants of them . The nordic as a whole have so many beautiful dresses I want more people to see them too! And thank you so much for helpful tips, I will be sure to use these on my research. I won’t disappoint you I promise<3

Hi Moon!! I hope you are well! I was wondering if you have any image refs for Jean, Pieck and Gabi's outfits! I'd love to visualize what you had in mind for them! This chapter was AWESOME!
Hello stella, how are you!!!
Thank you for asking T///T Jeanpiku's + Gabi's clothes in Ch 36 of VBEOW were actually inspired by the Norwegian Bunad.
For the most part, Jeanpiku are dressed in something like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With some variations tho. Pieck's "waistcoat" is described as curving right below her bust, therefore obviously a bit more fitting than the one in the above picture. She isn't wearing a shawl or a headpiece. The skirt is described by Jean as being "poofy" too, however I didn't actually think of it being too poofy, perhaps just a tad more than the above.
With Jean, it's more or less the same as above; the "shirt" he's described wearing having "... loose sleeves narrowing in decorated cuffs around his wrists..." are hidden under the embroidered vest and jacket.
I hope to feature more traditional costumes from other parts of Europe in later chapters tho!
