Even though I just reblogged @almostempty’s very detailed and intricate post before this, I just wanted to say that I am generally getting tired of the brainrot when it comes to how people perceive Joel Miller & Pedro Pascal as a whole.
I already had a feeling that people were going to conflate Clint Flood with Joel, like it was doomed from the start. People see Pedro’s broad ass wearing plaid with a scar and having an inclination to violence, and instantly snap their fingers and say “THAT’S JOEL MILLER!” Believe me, I get the hyperfixation around him, I get that there’s no changing of the popularity of TLOU and the fact that Pedro is without a doubt Joel Miller and that won’t change, nor would I want it to change. But just the way people have this obsessive nature when it comes to him and his other characters is so weird. I mean, I don’t get why people can’t just enjoy Pedro’s roles individually without automatically making them a Joel-adjacent, if that were the case he would just play Joel and he already is doing that. We have Joel Miller already, he’s done with that, we can have all of his other characters the way they are as intended and enjoy them on their own.
Obviously I’m not trying to be messy cause on my end I barely interact with Joel Miller content anymore, I barely talk about him cause everything about the show is upsetting me, and everything is filtered so I barely see shit nowadays and I’m having a lot of fun with The Pitt content in comparison to before because it’s so refreshing and new. But it’s really fucking frustrating when people just make everything synonymous with Joel Miller’s character archetype as if he’s the only male character to exist. People don’t even acknowledge Game! Joel Miller sometimes when his writing and characterization is damn near perfect and the show doesn’t do him justice (sorry), and that’s fine to criticize because we have the source material to make that comparison. It’s like people only have one setting when it comes to writing male characters: older, morally and physically grey, men who shoot with guns pew pew. There’s so much more that goes into both Joel & Clint, and trying to make every single character or role Pedro plays into a Joel Miller twin is a disservice to his range as an actor.
As someone who actually went out of their way to watch Freaky Tales in theaters and really loved Clint as a whole within the world we were introduced, I’m just annoyed that he’s going to turn into another Joel lookalike on top not getting a proper release because TLOU premiered a week after the movie came out and we couldn’t even enjoy that. Joel Miller is incredibly popular, that much is obvious and with Pedro’s popularity it just adds to it, and sometimes I wished that wasn’t the case was all. But it is what it is, and idc how this sounds I’m just mad about it.
Anyway, please actually watch Freaky Tales if you’re able to instead of just going off of appearances cause then you’ll see how they’re different characters. I love Clint Flood, if I write for him then I’ll let y’all know cause he really is fucking cool and interesting and I really do like him. Top 4 on the Pedro Pascal character list and he ain’t #4.

well here's a new take on the wwx-wlj-wc sexual violence sequence at the wen supervisory office that i haven't encountered before: apparently some people over on the mdzs subreddit genuinely think it wasn't even wlj who [redacted because yikes] to wc. because we clearly can't use context clues, or our brains, to make the connection between "his woman" and the only named woman character who spends any amount of time with him in the text. aka wlj.
also apparently even if he did do the thing to wlj and made her [do the other thing] to wc, she had it coming, so we shouldn't care about anything that wwx does to her, or forces her to do.
anyway this fandom is the tar pit.
#praying daily for the jgy hyperfixation to let me go so i can stop giving a shit about the insane double-standard#that the fandom applies to him vis-a-vis wwx#on god i almost stopped reading the book entirely after reading that part because it upset me too much#it's visceral and graphic in a way what jgy does to jgs and the brothel and those sex workers is not#and more importantly to me#what jgy does to jgs and the brothel and the sex workers has thematic resonance#i understand why he did it even tho i find it horrible#i can see how these acts of violence and violation connect back to his past and his own trauma and suffering#i am able to still care for him as a character and want to give him opportunities to come back from that moral event horizon#either in fic or meta or even the discourse#whereas with wwx all i feel like this tells me about him is that he has some shit to unpack about women who have had sex before#and i'm not sure that's actually what mxtx *wanted* us to feel about his character#i don't blame anyone who chooses not to engage with that part of the text either in the discourse or fic or other escapism#it would be nice if people would extend the same latitude to jgy fans#(especially considering i see jgy fans doing what wwx fans never seem to do: contextualizing our guy's actions without excusing them)#salty peak sect 🧂#this is very wwx-negative i'm sorry#(edited to add MOST wwx fans; the ones who don't shy away from the nasty bits#or at least don't give jgy fans shit#are precious to me lol)

man i am real sick of people seeing any complaints/criticisms about an adaptation, and taking that as a personal attack on them if they liked it. Just bc people don't like the thing you do, doesn't mean they're being hostile, or gatekeeping, or mean.
They do not need to justify not enjoying something, or to shut up so you never have to see negativity. If you do not like seeing people have opinions that aren't your own, it's on you to block them, not on them to not post how they feel about the latest big thing in the fandom they've probably been in for years, possibly decades.
#Sorry but the passive aggressive “why are people so mad at [fans of adaptation]?”#and then what they mean is “why are people criticising [adaptation] on their own blogs?”#Is actually a lot more shitty and hostile imo#Strangers online really are not responsible for managing your feelings and that is not being rude#It does not help that ime the criticisms are often very clear about specific things they do or do not like#Whereas the people complaining about the criticisms often do not actually say what they enjoyed#Just that they think the source material is inferior - often without actually saying why they think that either#Which is extra upsetting if it becomes clear they *haven't actually experienced said source material*#This happens with video game adaptations often now and i see fans of games even act incredulous that#People in fandoms enjoy a video games story when “games are for playing”#My guy#Buddy#Pal#Friendo#Do you think tumblr and ao3 are gaming platforms???#The visible fandoms for games that makes fanart and fanfiction and comics and post their headcanons and analysis and cosplay the characters#ARE FANS OF THE FUCKING STORY#GAMES ARE A STORYTELLING MEDIUM#Of fucking COURSE people established online to be fans of this thing that make art and writing about it like the ART AND WRITING#Like cool you're a casual fan that only plays games for playing them and doesn't really engage with the story#But don't just casually insult everyone else who does and then call *them* intolerant lol#The goddamn audacity of some people I swear to god#Disclaimer: this is not about if you're on your own blog and a hater barges in uninvited#his is about whining in the tag that not everyone like your thing and by extension you

#this isnt vent dw!!! i dont smoke either i was just kinda going for some sort of vibe#i know its usually played for laughs or like. dark humor whenever ppl draw mascots without their heads and u can see the actor#but i always found it fascinating and a little sobering. ever since i was a kid ive always been hyperaware of ppl in costumes#like. even if i tried to block it out id be thinking the whole time 'its not real. theres a person in that suit who gets paid to do this'#it used to be an uncomfortable nagging feeling but now its like. oh yeah theres someone with a whole life story doing this. idk#i think when i tell ppl im not conscious of my body its like. im not dysphoric or experience dissociation but. at the same time#it feels like my physical body doesnt fully outwardly represent me..?? like some sort of costume#i like to phrase it as being a giant hairless mecha and inside theres a very tiny puppy piloting the damn thing#and the other thing is. when i draw my sona i dont really see it as what i /wish/ i looked like or how i want people to see me#its like being in a costume and just. fucking around with some sort of barrier between myself and others#plus mascots arent allowed to talk and i dont really. engage with other ppl in public spaces that it kinda feels like ad lib#i share a lot abt my life but ironically im also a private person..... i guess it just gives me some sort of control over my identity#my art#myart#my oc#sona#mascot#furry#??? is this furry art????#twinkle#puppysona#edit: had to outline it bc i just realized it looks really weird on dark mode -_-

Just thinking about how, when my favorite show—Showtime's The Borgias—aired in 2011, it was 519 years after the RL version of the events in the first episodes (i.e. since 1492). To compare, the accession of the Holy Roman Emperor Otto II (husband of the Byzantine princess Theophanu), and likely the birth of Murasaki Shikibu (author of The Tale of Genji) were as far removed from the real Borgias' lives in 1492 as The Borgias is from the historical events inspiring its premiere.

#people very much want to blame readers for a lack of engagement with fic these days but frankly i think this is.... incorrect#we need to be real about WHAT ao3 is#it is an archive#it is not a space that is particularly conducive to social engagement#the most collaborative experiences i ever had around fic happened on livejournal#it was not on ff.net#like i agree that there is a depressing drop off in like...idk the idea of the social acceptability of leaving comments#and a far more pronounced divide between readers and authors#but this isn't happening bc readers suck now and they're selfish and entitled which frankly is how many posts opining about this issue sound#it's not like lurking or sorting by complete works only is NEW#these are things that have always happened#what has CHANGED imo is that the spaces where fic happens and the spaces where fandom happens are now very different#and isolated from one another#and we can blame readers for not bridging that gap all we want but it's not gonna fix it#especially since we know how well shaming people for Not Enjoying Things Correctly tends to go#like i don't have an answer to this problem but i think this ''you're entitled!'' ''no YOU'RE entitled'' back and forth#between writers and readers certainly isn't going to fix anything either#it's only going to push those two groups further away from each other#to my mind what we need is a) a platform more conducive to collabortive fic writing and fandom interaction#(think LJ or old dedicated fandom message boards)#and b) a cultural shift within fandom spaces away from this idea that authors are like... untouchable or whatever#bc from what I have observed authors who DON'T have this issue are ones who started creating fanworks from within a pre-existing friendgroup#a pre-existing readership really#and these little subsets then grow into larger readerships#the problem is how partioned all these group start#and that i think is a byproduct of an overall more hostile fandom space where people feel like they can't speak or create openly#without being in danger of running afoul of some fandom scold and their lackeys#like fandom has never lacked for drama but i do think in a post-tumblr/twitter fandom space we can all agree that shit jas gotten Buckwild#*gestures at how bg3 fandom recently speedran fandom insanity primarily on twitter*#shit is different these days and blaming each other for that is missing the forest for the trees

im watching this video (although im unlikely to finish it bc i just really disagree) about a study that seems to suggest trigger warnings Don't Work, and in this psych's own words are somewhat inimical to getting better because, like, exposure helps and you can't have the choice to avoid your triggers in the real world and blah blah blah
and i think that one of the issues here that i'm shocked doesn't really get brought up is that all triggers for all conditions are not made equal. you would think this is an easy concept but no.
like, some triggers are like, yeah. you actually cannot avoid this thing and trying to is just going to cause more problems in your life, even if it's painful to be exposed to it at first. stuff like really common names or particular common articles of clothing or whatever. you unfortunately have to deal, eventually, because these sorts of things are difficult to warn for and nearly ubiquitous. i've had these kinds of triggers before.
others are like. when the fuck am i going to encounter this aside from in fiction or maybe on the news? like, i have a choking trigger bc i was choked once. what fucking universe do you think i live in where i need to be prepared to see choking at all times because it's unavoidable? do people strangle each other to death every time you go to the grocery store???? what the fuck? the only time i ever see this shit is on tv or in erotica, in which case it is kind of on me that i chose to watch star wars or read a bodice ripper and stepping away does me no real harm or major inconvenience. what real life situation would possibly necessitate i not be warned for that short of getting violently attacked again? huh???
so like, i understand the attitude being "you shouldn't practice avoidance of men with brown hair" but don't understand the attitude being "you shouldn't practice avoidance of graphic violent imagery." why on earth do i need to see the second thing for any reason. what the fuck do you think happens out of doors

I genuinely remain confounded by the two sides to the Tech debate in this fandom. I've seen so many people on the Tech Lives side proclaim that they will be attacked, or insulted or made fun of for their ideas, all while they argue that those who see Tech as dead do so only because they want him dead since he's "autistic".
I've seen people on the Tech is Dead side go out of their way to comment unnecessarily on people who want him back with their beliefs on his death. This is unnecessary, just as it is unnecessary for those who believe or want Tech alive to make assumptions about those who believe the opposite.
That multiple people believe that is why someone may believe he's dead is confounding. The idea that Tech may be dead is not predicated on a hatred for autistic people, or autistic like characters. It isn't malicious for people to either want him alive, or to have accepted his death.
Frankly, it is tiring how the main focus of Tech's entire being since season two is that he died, and he's potentially autistic (The Crossing included, he never has been outright confirmed as such). He is so much more than that, and deserves to have people focus on him aside from just his death.
Curate your fandom experience by muting words or tags that may upset you.

You know how wild it is to see comments on YouTube of children going "i subed. im 7"
I did not interact with the YouTube comments until I was a teenager. I have made a grand total of less than 5 comments. Because I'm a pussy who was scared of saying something stupid and having the internet show up at my door to shank me. Yknow. Exactly what I was taught would happen.
And I stare at these comments and I think to myself
'If you knew your address, you would've posted it.'

talked w/ a friend about this and wanted to post something similar yesterday after a convo i saw also
about people criticizing ttcc / ttcc fans for just... being cog fans? being cog centric? usually coming from people who only like the toons.
and everyone likes what they like! it's okay! but saying that people who like the cogs are horrible and support the bad things they do, is just blatantly wrong. i thought we knew that enjoying villainous and morally Bad / grey characters is... okay? it doesn't mean you support what they do. it's interesting to explore these topics.
i've seen many people just... paint anyone who likes the cogs as horrible because they're "apologists of x and y" and... i dunno. rubs me the wrong way! you do have a point and recognize the cogs do bad things, but liking them as characters means nothing about who you are as a person.
and this is not to say that people who are in toontown for the toons are bad. hell! they are right this IS toontown. i may be on the cog liker side but i like the toons! maybe ocs more than the npcs - mostly because i like my friends and the sheer creativity the toons can bring out!!
SO what i wanna say... i dunno. let's not point fingers...? let's have fun in a goofy cartoon game together??? also complaining about people liking VILLAIN ROBOTS on TUMBLR is kind of funny to me. do you realize where you are. but then again a lot of this i see on discord and in-game as well since i avoid things on tumblr... i am a sensitive little fella i avoid misty fight bc of One Really mean "Critic" guy i saw there and i have been shivering in my bootsies since. so you get me
but like yes ttcc is more cog centric but... that's okay? things could be written better and i still wanna speak on it, and i do thing the toons deserve attention and better writing... but the fact it focuses on the cogs isn't... bad? if you don't like how con centric it is you can go play ttr...? god forbid people have fun and explore the villain's side of things...? i'm not saying either toontown server is better or worse than the other... and everyone can like their own things!!
but like... people will just like the cogs and that's okay and it doesn't make you bad. let's all be friends okay? both sides may be going at each other's necks in-game and the cogs in fact do horrible things - but it's what makes them fun, and it gives the toons things to do in the game!! but we don't gotta !!!!!!!! i may be really sarcastic and sometimes mean in private but like that's me just privately sassing, deep down i think people should just... y'know..? enjoy things.
so yea that's the guzma / cathal thought of today. toon people cog people both people are all awesome as fuck and you keep doing what you're doing i love you toontown isn't toontown without you
#anyways omg god forbid ppl are cog kissers on the robot kissing website /silly#but like!! tt/r may not be for everyone and tt/cc may not be for everyone and THATS OK!! ur not gonna like everything!!#like i accepted tt/r isnt for me but its mostly bc they dont show cog health specifically and i struggle with these things but !! i#heard they are updating that so i might be able to play without getting bored / frustrated again ^^ i havent played properly in yeaaaars#i will still prefer clash bc fixation and?? i LIKE ROBOBTS....!#but tewtow is tewtow its all swag. the least toony thing u can do is bully someone for Liking Robobt. be niceys#like ya i admit im not perfect i also dont like people andhave so much one sided beef and i am sensitive to so many things and i complain#in private but at the end of the day its to make myself feel better and i KNOW to not engage and look away and work on feeling better#bc this stuff does Heehoo upset me bc Mental Health Probulem. but i know everyone should and can do their own thing and have fun#i may complain about (redacted ship) all the time and i dont get it at all but...? bro... just have fun... be free. im not here to stop you#im just not gonna interact as i should. good for both of us! joyous world! happy that ur happy!!!!#why complain abt ppl just Enjoying Cogs like that though................................................ do you not like fun#this is not at anyone specific#my friend did show me tags of a post anonymously#and i vague a person whos name i dont know ingame like A YEAR AGO#and a convo what happened in a server a while back. but its not anyone specific i just wanted to like. speak my thoughts#lets be frense... and if not thats okay lets not argue either then we all stay in our lanes

half baked thought but 1) it’s funny when people act like hawkeye has a deep respect for marriage as an institution and that it’s something he cares about in any way and 2) funnier when people act like hawkeye settling down with one person in sudden post-canon monogamy is viewed like the only good and healthy way to address his issues around abandonment and like, self-worth
#N posts stuff#maybe it’s not funny maybe it kind of ticks me off a little bit admittedly. especially point 2#‘proposed yourself into a corner’ hello ? i don’t think hawkeye ever wants to Get Married#i don’t think he has any particular respect for marriage as an institution. his anti-establishment values are pretty all encompassing#he’s friends with people who cheat and actively encourages their affairs (became less prevalent in later seasons but still a Fact)#and is seemingly perfectly content to sleep with engaged/married women himself#the womanizing became less of a thing in later seasons but honestly. i don’t see this as a Good Thing necessarily#i kind of see it as a less pointed echo of the 38th parallel episode where hawkeye can’t get it up bc the army is stressing him so bad#he’s not suddenly into the values of monogomy he’s too stressed and miserable to have fun anymore#i think it’s A Lot more interesting to have it be a mark of his post war recovery that he Does go back to cruising life and casual sex#he likes People and he does want to keep them in his life but i can’t ever really see him as a One Relationship type of guy#specifically because he Likes People too much to want to settle down. like his issue with carlye was that he was too focused on work#but that’s not what kept him from Proposing to her i think he just Didn’t Want to settle down ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#hawkeye falls in love with people all the time constantly i feel like you’re robbing him of that when you make him monogamous#ALSO ALSO ALSO i think it’s frustrating bc hawkeye’s issues around his self loathing are Not in relation to his romantic/sexual relationship#hawkeye hates himself bc he sees himself as complicit in the war machine and the atrocities of the army#he can’t get out without ruining his entire life but he Knows that every life he saves is either Temporary or an avenue for further death#he saves the lives of the soldiers on his table because he can’t Not try to save every life he can but he also Knows they are going to go#back to the front and kill more people and hawkeye Hates himself for having a role in that cycle#so to act like his self-worth can be resolved with a steady monogamous relationship is so frustrating bc we’ve lost the Core of the problem#(i know i know go to the shipping website get shipping takes/priorities but also Come On!!)#N talks MASH
