Wolfstar Raising Harry

Ten Reasons (To Go To Michigan) by @greyeyedmonster-18 (I also love these two unrelated wolfstar raising harry microfics by the same author) — This is a Sirius raising Harry and meeting recently divorced Remus (who happens to be a writer) on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A must read! that's the art of getting by by sarewolf — Remus becomes Harry's guardian and they move to a muggle village in the middle of nowhere. Eventually, Sirius is freed and comes to stay with them, but can they get back what they once had? Honestly, majorly obsessed with this one, but watch out for the angst! Stealing Harry by copperbadge — In an alternate universe where Sirius Black never went to Azkaban, Harry divides his life between the Dursleys' house and Mr. Black's bookshop -- until Sirius realises what the Dursleys are doing to him, and takes him away from their care. This series is fucking amazing and actually spans several of the books!! Mr Mouse by TracingPatterns (which continues in their wolfstar raising harry series) — A lovely little piece in which a young Harry learns about grief.

Like Real People Do by third_crow (part of the coffee shop au series) — Sirius raising Harry, when he starts falling for local barista Remus Lupin. This is also a beautiful story about what it's like to live with epilepsy and I am extremely obsessed with this series. The Things I Did by Lolo_row — canon compliant, Remus gets custody of Harry and works to get Sirius out of Azkaban. A bit of angst, but tasty! the dogfather au by hollimichele — Harry was raised by his adoptive muggle family, when one day a big black dog shows up. His parents just thinks he's a stray, and Padfoot becomes the family pet (to keep an eye on Harry, and protect him from Voldemort). Eventually this morphs into Remus also coming into the picture.

Wolfstar Raising Teddy

the mayors of simpleton by @fruityindividual — Divorced wolfstar are co-parenting a very mischievious Teddy who is not about to let his dads stay divorced!! Honestly this fic is so funny, so heartfelt, so fucking lovely. It also features the most beautiful portrayal of a blind character that I ever seen. A must read! Of Memories and Milk Thievery by @mayescapade — Divorced wolfstar raising Teddy again! Wolfstar have been co-parents for years and they wont stop terrorizing/pranking one another. An Infinte Ocean by orphan_account — Single dad Remus. Remus Lupin knows two things--working and caring for his son, Teddy. When his babysitter sets up crowdfunding so Teddy can go swim with the sea turtles at the local animal rescue, Remus doesn't realise how completely their life is going to change. Especially when he meets Sirius Black, the weekend merman in the aquatic show, and someone who might convince him of love at first sight. Honestly a lovely piece, and it also features the Potter clan.

Let's Play Pretend by MsAlexWP — My current obsession!! I can't tell you how many times I've read this. Single parent Remus and single parent Sirius meet at a play date and end up pretend dating so that the old women in Sirius' building (who basically stalk him) will stop trying to set him up. Neither of them can date at the moment, so what could possibly go wrong?? Ultimate comfort fic. Of Quiet Hearts And Thundering Dreams by TracingPatterns — This is single parent Sirius and single parent Remus, both having moved to a small village and meeting at Harry & Teddy's school. A Cup of Sugar by MsAlexWP — Again, they are both single parents. Harry Potter is recovering from surgery and facing the worst summer ever until a guy with the same crutches as Harry moves in across the street with his son. So lovely!! Hide-and-Seek by onehundredflamingos — Wolfstar girldads raising their adoptive daughter Cassie, who is also a werewolf. This is the story of her first transformation. It's soooo sweet! @industrations has done a bunch of wolfstar and Cassie art, which you should absolutely go and cry over!

staying strangers by 3amandcounting - this one is SO SILLY it's another one of those texting fics but it's genuinely such a fun read. also it has desi james potter which is my personal favorite marauders headcanon (!!)

that's the art of getting by by sarewolf - oh GUYS this one is such a must read i swear to god, its a wolfstar (first remus, then sirius too) raises harry fic and it literally has everything. it'll rip you to pieces and fix you again and i had such a great (and terrible) time reading it

sweater weather by lumosinlove - HOCKEY AUUUUUU guys i dont know anything about hockey but this fic had me wanting to play. it has black brothers angst, gryffindor/slytherin rivalry, good ocs, physical trainer!remus and captain!sirius, its literally perfection.

beneath a big blue sky by eyra - guys. farmer remus. i dont think i need to say any more.

the horcrux hunt by lostmy_keys - this one is very regulus-centric but wolfstar is the main ship! its got some peak platonic moonwater, but it's also got some great wolfstar content. i was so invested in this one as it was coming out omg

pair of tossers with a cat by moonymoment - i am a moonymoment ENTHUSIAST and this fic is no exception, this one's just a bit of silly wolfstar, remus takes in a stray cat and sirius has beef with it. so cute, 10/10 would recommend

of memories and milk thievery by moonymoment - another moonymoment fav, remus and sirius are teddy's divorced fathers. so much silly beefing. theyre so petty and its fucking funny as shit but then randomly gets deep??? the marauders fandom cant stay away from angst for 2 secs but all in all such a funny fic i had such a silly time with it

i have some Opinions on a lot of things about hp and i have some fluctuating emotions on certain characters. i genuinely treat every hp character like barbies that i play with and put into Shenanigans and Situations.

i will reading bashing fics especially albus ones i hate the things he did but i on occasion have been known to enjoy a good albus fic including ones where he's less "we have to kill voldy!!" and more "you (platonically or romantically)Love someone, dont you Tom?" like that spongebob meme. i do not like sirius or remus bashing, it's always overly harsh and vilifies a man locked away in the harshest prison who's mental faculties have been horribly abused, and while The Prank was an incredibly stupid attempt of a prank due to the danger it put severus in and also remus i ultimately believe it would've never happened in the first place if albus and minerva properly chastised the marauders earlier for their treatment of snape. we also don't know when this happened in the timeline of the marauders, was it before or after snape and lily's falling out. in remus' case he's a man who's been treated as a monster his whole life who was allowed into hogwarts by albus who then used this BOY'S gratitude to make him go into enemy territory and spy on and try to recruit people to the other side of the war. not to mention that albus groomed them all to fight the boy he FAILED(ive got so many opinions on tom and albus) and then when remus who support network was either dead or imprisoned he was told he couldn't raise harry and was told to not contact him. albus did all he fucking could to make harry miserable and pliable so that he'd sacrifice himself to end a war like a pig to slaughter. ur telling me Great Albus Dumbledore defeater of grindelwald couldnt find a solution to the horcrux besides having him walk to his death not to mention that he could've probably figured out horcruxes decades earlier and tried collecting them and probably would've succeeded! also i hate that the whole marauders generation is completely wiped out jkr u nasty bitch!

my ultimate fav ships are nottpott and wolfstar. ive BEEN a wolfstar lover since i was literally a child. nottpott entered my life last year and proceeded to ruin me on drarry(and pretty much every other ship involving harry and someone else or theo and someone else) i used to hate dramione bc i was apart of a toxic forum back in the day but i have grown to enjoy it bc it usually goes hand in hand with nottpott. i am forever a fremione and a pansmione gurlie tho. i love a lot of marauders ships as well jegulus/jily/jegulily/wolfstar/marylily/dorlene/pandalily/rosekiller/etc

i will mention i have dipped my toe into tomarry. i have enjoyed quite a few fics with this pairing and while i have enjoyed mostly ones where they are both teens, i do not like or support ones where its oldie voldie and literal child harry. its a grey area with somethings with them because of a multitude of factors and it shifts from a fic to fic basis. im not one to judge overly harsh over liking ships but i will judge in cases of straight up pedophilia but it will mostly result in a block because im not a child that starts fights on the internet anymore. i also do not support bestiality or incest and i'm specifying these things in particular due to a intimate relationship with the harry potter ao3 tag i know what freaks and weirdos exist there. literally the only fuckin fandom thats got a UNIQUE BESTIALITY tag

I feel the need to make one of those intro posts because recently a few blogs started following me that seem to be more into the fanon interpretation of things, and I don't want anybody to get the wrong ideas about what to expect from this blog.

About me... I'm 29, she/her, pan/bi (I don't care which label), and demi (my, it took me so long to figure that out).. I used to be a judge but dropped out because of a myriad of reasons but mainly because of... well, depression. I cannot, for the life of me, remember how many letters there are in the alphabet, I love carrots but they make me nauseous, and my socks always have holes.

So... let's move to the important stuff.. JK sucks, and parts of the canon suck too - like the house elf stuff and her naming "skills" which are very telling, her fat shaming, and the anti-trans shit that is even written into the original source material. But for the most part, the characterization isn't one of them. So on this blog, I will defend the canon version of characters, flaws and all.

To make myself clear: hc characters as trans and writing characters as gay etc is great and I fully support that. What I mind, however, is the heteronormative, mysoginistic cliches we keep seeing under the guise of 'progressive' queer ships. If you not only change their gender or their height but also their personalities so that they fit heteronormative stereotypes that's problematic. Same goes for the casual racism going on in this fandom. Portraying non-white people as huge, buff guys with anger-issues is - you guessed it - problematic!

What to expect from this blog:

Me applauding the many great people out there. Do you even know how great you are???

Me geeking out, especially about the characters and ships I love most (and sometimes writing/sharing anti-posts about my own favs when I'm too fed up with the fanon version of them).

Me writing long-ass metas at two in the morning because that one post was the final straw.

Me brain-vomiting stuff into the void of the internet that really no one asked for and no one cares about.

Me ranting and contradicting myself.

Nuance - or at least, I try. But I'm just a person with biases, and I read the books through the lens of my own experiences, so yeah. And of course there's always a range, even when sticking to canon.

(I say I care about nuance, but you'll find me swaying to full-force apologetism the next second - get used to it, I'm a hypocrite).

Some writing. I shared some microfics/one-shots already (soulmate microfic, over 30 microfic, fix it one-shot, wolfstar raising Harry one-shot (sort of), drabble collection), but I'm working on a long wolfstar fic starting in 1971 and carrying all the way through to 1998. It's solely from Remus' s POV and I'm trying to pay attention to everything (!) in canon so that it makes sense with all the scenes we see in the books - although I wouldn't call wolfstar canon. I think itl'l be around 900k-1 million words in the end. Right now I'm at 950k but I need to add stuff, cut stuff and just generally work through it. I plan on starting to post it before I turn 30 (which will be in mid-December).

Remus/Sirius will always be my OTP, and I've made a post about why I think they make sense even from a canon perspective and with their canon personalities (not saying they are canon, but don't tell me I haven't read the books). But I do feel the need to point out that I disagree with most of the depictions I see nowadays in this fandom as the characters I fell in love with are barely recognoizable. I prefer post-PoA wolfstar (or AUs), but I think Hogwarts wolfstar can work. It's just indefinitely more difficult to make it work with their canon personalities. Btw, me loving wolfstar doesn't mean I negate the co-dependency James and Sirius have going on - which is obviously canon. I also love James and Sirius so much.

As for other ships... I love Scorbus, Jily, Hinny, Romione and Grindelore. And I love a whole bunch of characters regardless of any ships, including but not limited to Ron, Dumbledore, Ginny, Fleur, Luna, McGonagall, Hermione and Scorpius. And I'm not anti Tonks - I'm just anti Remadora because I think they both deserve better. But it is what it is, jk wrote that and for what it's worth I do think Remus loved her in some way.

I can get very passionate about fictional characters, but I'm an adult, and I know they're fictional. And I believe I can take criticism, so if there's anything on your mind...

It's always my personal opinion I'm talking about; I don't think I'm some kind of hp authority, but that goes without saying.

What not to expect from this blog:

Art (I reblog, of course, but you don't want me to draw, believe me).

Dumbledore hate / Remus hate (don't confuse with criticism, I'm all for criticism). No ATYD hate either. I have my issues with it, but it's not the author's fault it has become the fandom's new rulebook.

Me dumbing down James and Sirius, etc.

Me abandoning James and Peter. But, sorry not sorry (and wolfstar aside), I will keep pushing my "Remus and Sirius were close friends at Hogwarts" agenda (but as were Remus and James, obviously, and Remus and Peter, and so on, with James and Sirius being inseparable).

Jegulus/Slytherin skittles stuff. If that's your thing, that's fine, but it isn't mine.

Most important information for last, right? If I speak ill about Remus, it is always with the most love possible. I keep saying Sirius is my favorite character, but he has a lot of fans out there, and avoidant, self-loathing, passive-aggressive, manipulative, ruthless, but also smart, brave, kind, loyal, empathetic, thoughtful and selfless (yes, you read that correctly) Remus holds a special place in my heart.

Judging solely by Hard Scientific Evidence (my ao3 bookmarks) - its Established Relationship, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting and Canon Divergence (if we ignore fanfic genres). Filtered to only HP fics its Established Relationship, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting and Canon Compliant.

Although considering two of them are regarding the canon/alternate setting and aren’t exactly tropes (and Im not sure i would say i agree with this data) - I was resorted to breaking down my two OTPs (wolfstar and stucky) into pieces ;)

So, lets see what we can find inside :D

Childhood Friends to Lovers

Or friends to lovers. Or strangers to friends to lovers. Any form of buddyslash, as it used to be called, as opposed to enemyslash. I am very much not an enemies to lovers person. Even in case of rivals to lovers ships im actually interested in them after they move into a more amicable territory.

So, friends to lovers is my fav type of ship dynamic, I believe.

Im not sure why? Maybe its got sth to do with me being maybe probably on the ace spectrum. Maybe I just think a good romance starts with friendship as opposed to bad romance that starts with rah rah-ah-ah-ah.

2. Separated by war and imprisonment and Reunited against all odds

This just screams soulmatism to me, and not in a “we are soulmates bc we fit so well together” (bc r/s dont) but in a “the chances of us finding each other again were so minuscule it must have been done consciously by the universe”. Its sometimes so crazy to me that this things happened canonically. The shack scene is absolutely crazy on its own (the forgave each other 12 years of pain in one conversation) and then Sirius and Remus go live together for like a year. The whole Winter Soldier movie is, again, bonkers, when you have shipping goggles on (and even if you dont, the romance isnt in the subtext, its in the text)

I was surprised I was into exes to lovers in modern/no magic aus, but yeah its canon for r/s so it makes sense. Something something second chances something something love conquers all something something they were meant to be something something soulmates.

3. Recovering after years of torture prison

hurt/Comfort my beloved.

This trope fits fill-in-the-blanks type of canon-compliant fics for r/s and canon-divergent fix-its fics for s/b.

In case of wolfstar this is Lie Low at Lupin’s. Absolute banger. *slaps hood* This bad boy can fit so many smaller tropes. Bed sharing. Bath sharing. Helping wash/cut hair. Comforting after a nightmare. Communicating and talking and settings things straight after years of lost time. Yeah. Cannot go wrong with this one. (and I can pretend they stay in this intimate serene bubble and nothing bad ever happens to them bc im delusional)

In case of stucky its all types of post-WS or post-CW fix-its where Bucky finally gets some fucking treatment and therapy (and actual therapy, not this piss-poor excuse for a therapist from TFATWS).

In both cases there is also an interesting switch in the dynamic that im not sure i can put into right words. Just, the one that used to stand up for the other, take care of them, was more confident and outgoing, now is the one being taken care of bc they went through hell and were on a run from the government for 2 years. And the one taking care of them is doing only slightly better, had a bit more time to adjust, but still, is quite traumatized as well.

Cinematic parallels or sth idk.

However, i mostly read fluff so there are many fluffy tropes i could mention but i couldn’t pick my top 3 (Sirius raising Harry and getting together with Remus. Domestic bliss. Established relationships with marriage proposals. Raising kids together. Post-full-moon sick fics (that one is technically h/c). Holidays spend with loving families. etc) I eat that shit up

Laocoon's Children follows Harry through his time at Hogwarts as he develops a very different group of friends: Hufflepuff Draco Malfoy, Ravenclaw Padma Patil, and Gryffindor Neville Longbottom, strange companions for a Harry who was sorted into Slytherin -- the house of his beloved Professor Snape.

This universe ends in Harry's third year, and is partially incomplete. As it is not likely to be finished, the last story in the series is a group of notes I made on where the story would have gone and how it would have ended. (443.3K)

If you read only one fic in this whole fest, let it be this one.

A Brief History of Dragons by @eyra - along with Beneath a Big Blue Sky by the same author, this is my ultimate comfort fic. It probably has the most hits of any fic on this list, but I don't hear enough people talking about it. I don't know how to describe it, other than that it feels like a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. Better In The Morning by BrigidFaye - this is Sirius falling back through the veil six months after everyone thought he died. It's a one shot, it's fucking beautiful and there is a scene that hurts so good. Remus needs a gd hug. It also features a soul mate bond, which we love. Like Real People Do by third_crow - a coffee shop au for people who hate coffee shop aus. Remus has epilepsy, Sirius is raising Harry. It's wonderful, and even has a sequel!

Twin High Maintenance Machines by @behaveddestroyerrating - I can't get through a rec list without something from B. This is technically a WIP but every chapter acts as it's own separate story within a universe. This features maybe my favourite Sirius and Remus of all time. They are both unhinged and in love. It's hilarious. Remus is suffering (and he thrives on it). This is a forever fav and everyone should read it over and over. Drover by @krethes - cowboy wolfstar. that's it, that's the post...it's also extremely fucking hot. It's only 1k so it's a quick read, too. wine of the body and the shape of longing by @greenvlvetcouch - I couldn't believe how few hits this fic has when I checked. It is GORGEOUS! Yes, it's dead dove and there is so much blood (read the tags), but honestly that's the appeal. Underground fighting as foreplay. Hot as fuck. The Hut of the Mistold by @lynxindisguise - gorgeous fairy tale au!! It really feels like you're reading from an old collection of stories and they weave together beautifully!! Side note, it's a WIP, but updating regularily. The Mayors of Simpleton by @fruity-individual - I will bang on my drum about this until I die. WOLFSTAR DIVORCE! WOLFSTAR RAISING TEDDY! BLIND REMUS! Listen, the way Sash writes Remus is downright poetic. It's also a regularily updated WIP. her body is a temple down in the frozen food aisle by @achilleslikespeas - this one has everything: lesbian wolfstar. body horror. time loop. poetic descriptions of existing in a grocery store. The way Claude manipulates text in this to further the narritive is just — chef's kiss. Honey Sweet by @vajazzly - You know this one, Ceci, but HIPPIE REMUS. CITY BOY SIRIUS! This fic really made me smile so wide and God was it hot.

in a truly remarkable feat, if I do say so myself, I got this wolf into a pair of pants, just for @theonlywolfpants. they're a lovely pair of dungarees, access point for their tail and everything. alas, my photographer only captured the wolf's face. needless to say, I fired the photographer. the wolf is probably still out there, fashion icon of the woods. I think MM may be rotting my brain.

ANYWAYS, what can I say about wolf. they describe themself as a cheerful soft goth which I absolutely love. they're clever as hell- go read through their top posts some time- I was simultaneously chuckling and nodding my head along with them. for being a soft goth, I associate them with sunshine and shiny vibes- they're always super friendly and inclusive, participating in all the ask games and prompt challenges and just generally being a force for good in this little corner of the internet. they've only been writing in this fandom for about six months, and it's absolutely incredible what they've come up with in that time!!

Remus Raises Harry: Forever Live and Die // E // 83K // Wolfstar // such an amazing character study of Remus Lupin! I was captivated from the first word to the last - this was a brilliant canon divergence, and it was so good to see these three broken boys get a different story.

probably my fav fic of this pairing: Seas Between Us // M // 7K // Remus/James // this is a wholly underrated rare pair, and wolf absolutely killed it. you feel James' ache down to your bones, and the inevitability of it all culminates in such a lovely, satisfying way.

Glad to see someone else isn’t too fond of the “Sirius is a drama queen” thing either. Everything he’s ever upset about in the books is literally 100% justified? People use the “I did my waiting” line as an example, but that’s not really him being dramatic, that’s justified anger and bitterness. Also yes, as you said, the scenes in the shack are him at a total low point, he’s not really himself at all. He’s so desperate he literally tries to kill Harry, which he would never do if he wasn’t in this messed up mental state.

I also think it’s a little weird how Wolfstar shippers highlight this side of him much more than most other sides of the fandom. Don’t get me wrong, I love Wolfstar, but sometimes it feels like people are exaggerating Sirius “dramaticness” to play into the over dramatic, flamboyant gay man stereotype. But even if that’s not at all the case, it’s still flanderization and I don’t like it :)

I like to think that Sirius can be very overly dramatic about little things, but when it comes to the significant stuff, he can switch it off and go into full stress-resilience mode.

People also forget that he didn't run away from home until 16-17. He was raised by Walburga bloody Black for over 16 years. There is no way he wasn't taught legilimency, occlumency, dueling, how to resist the Imperius curse etc. Assuming Walburga used legilimency on him and Regulus at home, they should be both very well-trained to resist it.

Practicing arts like occlumency and legilimency trains your brain, it makes you more composed, calculated, helps you think clearly.

Which is what we see in Sirius, with the exception of the Shack scene (which is unfortunate, because that's our literal first introduction to him, and first impressions are hard to change).

People forget that they are in a state of war - not just Sirius. Remus as well. Molly gets so much shit, but she is raising seven kids in the middle of a war, half of whom are fighting, of course she will come off as mean and overbearing.

The kids too - Ron, Harry, Draco.. nobody is really themselves, they are a version of those people that grew up in a war-torn society where you constantly have to live on edge and fear for you loved ones' lives. So of course it will reflect on their character and make them all seem a little bit insane.

It's the same issue I have with Walburga's portrayal in the fandom, which is based 100% off a portrait which was drawn at a time when the woman lost her son and her husband and was at the lowest point in her life - @artemisia-black has several incredible metas about it, she also has amazing metas on Sirius' mental health (all of her metas are gold, she is one of my fav writers in the fandom).
