WOLLEMI DAY 7- HEAT
CW: Pet whump, Beatings mention, heat stroke, left out in the sun as a punishment, Dehydration!!, Creepy, and dominating whumper, swearing heh, Young whumpee, mental distress, fainting. A lot of it.
Caleb had never felt the heat so cruel.. It beat down upon him, scorching every inch of exposed skin. Caleb was bounded tight to a tree, heat coming in directly at him, intensifying the bruises and cuts he had just recently gotten from Dominic's hands as another punishment. The beating was still fresh in his mind. He had just managed to get on Dominic's nerves (which wasn't a new thing) when he was already in a bad mood.
Dominic had just left him outside after it as if that wasn't enough. The ropes cut into his skin, only tightening when he tried struggling. At this point he had just given up. Waiting for his captor to come and get him out of there. Maybe he would even get a cold bath if he behaved!! Caleb after realizing what he was thinking seemed disgusted by himself.
"Fuck.. That guy's getting a hold on me.." He mumbled to himself. This was all meant to be a cruel lesson in obedience. Like he was a fucking 5 year old waiting to be disciplined by his mom. He was 17 for fucks sake!!
Caleb got lost in his thoughts of killing Dominic in different ways. He tried sleeping. It didn't work. He tried screaming Dominic's name even adding a "sir" when he wouldn't hear anything back. It didn't work. He tried struggling more, as if somehow the ropes would loosen and he could run away. Guess what?? It didn't work.
It had been hours. Dehydration set in. He needed water. Badly. Dominic wasn't going to leave him here to die from Hyperthermia right?? Surely, he hadn't gotten bored of him that early.
"Sir! I-I learnt m-my lesson. Y-You can untie me now!" Caleb tried shouting, but it just came out in a raspy whisper. Dominic had long since disappeared, leaving him to suffer alone.
Hours stretched into days. Caleb kept going in and out of consciousness. Both because of his untreated injuries that burnt under the sun, and because of the lack of water and tiredness. Being tied to the tree for so long was torturous. He couldn't feel anything anymore. Was he going to die at this motherfucker's hands? Was he even alive right now? Going in and out of consciousness a lot made him question reality. What he could see was real and what was not.
Just when Caleb was about to pass out again he felt gentle hands on him. Without even thinking, he immediately leaned into the touch. He tried blinking his eyes, to see who it was but eventually gave up. He felt being picked up as he whimpered slightly narrowing his eyes. The figure just chuckled carrying him.
"You didn't really enjoy sunbathing huh? I'm surprised you're even alive after being out there for two days kitten." The figure chuckled again but all Caleb could here was the ringing in his ears, the huge headache and the way he felt nauseous and dizzy. Caleb closed his eyes almost immediately passing out again.

Hot Hot Heat
Warnings: captivity, restraints, torture
Whumpee could feel the sweat pouring off them. Could feel the dryness of their tongue. Could feel their burning thirst. Could feel their skin burning in the sweltering heat.
But they couldn't do anything to stop it.
Whumper had tied them up so thoroughly and completely that Whumpee had no hope of escaping. No hope of breaking free and seeking shelter from the hot desert sun.
They could only hope that Whumper would take pity on them and bring them inside once more. Give them a few drops of water before tying them to the post outside once more. Whumpee could only hope that Whumper was merciful in their torture.

Heat
In honor of it being incredibly hot, here's some heat whump stuff partly drawn from my own experiences (I have experience but I'm not a doctor, take it with a grain of salt)
General Heat Symptoms (aka Things That Happen When You Are Hot For Too Long):
Dizziness
Nausea
Vomiting
Fatigue
Cramps
Headaches
Dehydration*
*Dehydration often goes hand-in-hand with heat symptoms. Generally, the less hydrated your character, the worse their heat symptoms will be.
A character doesn't have to have heat exhaustion or heat stroke to have these symptoms, but they are a sign that your character needs to start cooling down.
Heat Exhaustion vs Heat Stroke:
Heat stroke is basically a worse version of heat exhaustion. The symptoms are more extreme, and it's much deadlier than heat exhaustion. Heat stroke is what heat exhaustion becomes if left untreated. Seizures, fainting, hallucinations, and not thinking straight are some symptoms of heat stroke (but not of exhaustion)
For more info and symptoms of each: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/heat-exhaustion-vs-heat-stroke/
Location:
Heat illnesses are very common in hot environments (particularly outdoors), but they can still happen inside (which is where hydration can really come into play; inside, the difference between heat exhaustion and not-heat-exhaustion could really just be how hydrated your character is)
Drawing from experience, if you take a hot shower while very dehydrated, there is a chance you will become incredibly nauseous and overheated in the shower or upon stepping out.
Even if your character is doing nothing, they can still get overheated just from being in a hot environment.
Sunburns:
Sunburns suck! A lot! They can hurt like hell and might make it impossible or very painful for a character to move depending on how bad/where the sunburn is. Anytime your character is in the sun for an extended period of time without sun protection (sunscreen, hat, long sleeves, pants, bandana) they will get a sunburn. Applying heat (sun, hot water, etc) to sunburns is incredibly painful.
Happy whumping and make sure your characters suffer in the heat!! (but take care of yourself!)

Top Places to Visit in Sydney in December
December is a great time to hit the road and travel the places around Sydney. It is the best time of the year when the world is bound by festivities. The charm around Christmas makes going on a vacation all the more easier. It is fun when you take the trip in a campervan rental Sydney as you are more relaxed and can carry stuff around to plan your trip better. However, when it comes to planning, you also need to decide the places you want to visit while on the road. Here we have a list of all the things you can explore near Sydney with your campervan. 1.    Explore the Blue Mountains There is no time like December to fulfill this one. December is slightly chill and nice. You won’t feel the warmth or heat when going on treks or hiking the trails around this path. There is the “Three Sisters” echo point from where you can take a view of the entire country. Apart form the long walks, you will find several scenic spots that will interest you and get your camera’s attention. You can hit the pubs in Katoomba and enjoy a drink or two there. Make sure to opt for motorhome hire Sydney from a good place for your trip. 2.    Take a Dip at Maccallum Pool This is one of the best natural attractions around the country, and you should not be missing it at any point. You can begin with a breakfast at a nearby bar, before you step into the pool during a point when it is not too cold outside. Once you have enjoyed the pool time, you can go ahead and find a place to walk around. It is an interesting walk near the place. 3.    The Hunter Valley It is more like a day trip from Sydney and a very interesting one. You can move closer to the nature with this trip as it is a valley that houses lot of flora and fauna. You are likely to find some nice places that sell chocolates and honey too around here. The Wollemi National Park and Barrington Top around this place is indeed a catch for the visitors. You can also visit the several museums and galleries around the place during your visit. 4.    Hawkesbury River Cruise If you love cruises, make sure to take your campervan rental Sydney to this one. It is located an hour away from Sydney and is definitely worth a visit. You can go for the many water sports while in the waters. There are guided fisherman tours that you can take to visit the species living under water. You can also take the cruise to visit the Ku-ring-gai national park. 5.    Somersby Falls If you love the water then the Somersby Falls is the day trip for you. Take your motorhome hire Sydney down this route and hit this mesmerizingly superb place near the city. you can setup a nice picnic table after enjoying the falls and enjoy family time.

It’s the End of the World as we Know It (And I don’t feel fine)
Over a month ago I woke up with terrible pain in my back. For years we've been sitting on a broken futon so we figured that might be to blame. We could ill afford a new sofa at that time, but we really had no other choice. There was no comfortable chair for me to sit in and with the neuroma in one foot and a subluxating patella in the other leg, I need to sit a lot. So a few days after my spasm, a new, ergonomic sofa was delivered. It's been great. I'm incredibly grateful for it. But the back spasm? It hasn't gone away.
I'm used to the aches and pains of Fibromyalgia but normally when I have a spasm in my back or neck, it's gone after a week or two, tops. The regular aches return but there's a difference in a spasm. It's a sharp, vice like grip that prevents me from bending at certain angles. It generally feels like I have something with sharp fangs latched into all my tissues, sinews and muscles that just won't let go. It sends electrical, sharp twinges up the rest my back, threatening to paralyse me. It's really unnerving, but beyond that, it's extremely debilitating. I booked to see my myotherapist and the soonest I could visit her was a few weeks away. I saw her on Monday and my glutes were so tight that after she'd massaged them, I came up in enormous purple and blue bruises. Seriously, my butt looks like a baboon’s.
For one day my lower back felt a bit better and I didn't need to put a heat pack on. I've been putting on so many stick-on deep heat packs that my skin is red raw from the adhesive ripping off each night. Unfortunately, the pain returned with a vengeance only a day later. I'm struggling to do my core exercises which are essential for keeping me functional.  My Fibro is greatly worsened by being static and my subluxating patella becomes excruciating if I don't do my hip flexors and other exercises. But trying to do them on the exercise mat on the floor right now? Immensely painful. Certain back stretches that always used to help lower back pain are so difficult to do that I just burst into tears. And I know what I'm in for. I have low back pain. I have one of the vaguest pains that doctors absolutely revel in dismissing. I know that I will be sent off to one useless physio after another and because no one can “see” the problem I’ll be sent on a merry-go-round of tired old treatments I KNOW don’t work. This back forth with medical professionals will go on for months and thousands of dollars later I’ll feel no better. I know how this book ends because I know the medical system and its limitations intimately. It’s a lost cause.
I do have a theory as to why this back pain will not go away, though. Along with the spasm, I've been incredibly stressed during my sleep. The cannabis I'm taking at night allows me to sleep for 6 hours, which is a massive improvement on no sleep at all due to pain. However, it works more like a pain distractor. The THC pushes me under into sleep mode, but I am clearly still in pain because I'm clenching. I'm clenching so damn hard that I have to wear a wrist brace at night to stop myself from cracking my wrists under my head. I wake up in the fetal position with my teeth gritted to the point that I now have trans-mandibular joint disorder, something else that is expensive to treat and that I now need to see a dentist for. Clenching so tightly for eight hours a night is likely doing in my back as well. Why am I so stressed? Oh, there are many reasons but the biggest one is bleedingly obvious to me:
 Eco-anxiety.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a realistic image of planet earth, as seen from space, with fire burning across most of its surface]
It is very difficult to put into words how emotionally distressing it has been for Australians to be surrounded by smoke and fire for months. We were very lucky in our region of the Blue Mountains that the smoke didn't settle nearly as much as it did in Sydney. Sydney is in a basin and so the pollution just sits on top of it and they were copping it from the north and south coast fires as well as the ones raging on the northern and southern slopes of the mountains. But eventually, the smoke haze grew so large and so thick that it dumped on us too. A few days ago, air quality reached 12 times the hazardous level. And as Australian houses are designed like sieves and are not at all airtight or properly insulated, the smoke just comes in. On Wednesday, my eyes were red, my nose was running and I was coughing constantly. I was incredibly agitated because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't go outside, that was even worse, so after a long drawn out winter I haven't been able to enjoy late spring or summer thus far. This has given me intense cabin fever as I am an outdoors person and recharge in nature
Apart from the stress of being cooped up inside a smoke filled house, I am also drained from being on constant high alert. I have the “Fires Near Me” app on my phone, which posts warnings if a fire has started in my local area; four have started in my watch zone in the past few weeks. There is a huge one raging in the upper mountains and dumping smoke on us. At any moment, we might have to evacuate. The mega fire (Gosper’s Mountain/Wollemi Park area) which is larger than the entire metropolitan area of Sydney is now burning on the northern slopes of the Blue Mountains, may cross over the road and start eating into the central park. If that happens, there will be a mass exodus out of the mountains towns, including mine. The new home we just bought? That might well burn to the ground. We had to over insure it because of the way property prices are forever escalating. It's so incredibly expensive and unbelievably stressful. We know all of this is happening because of climate change, and yet our leaders refuse to do anything about it. Oh, hopes and prayers are offered, sure, but policy changes and meaningful action? Ha ha no. Too many boomers in government for that.
Climate change anxiety is real. With most other worries and fears, I can console myself or rationalise them away. But not this one. Normally when I am anxious, I exercise self-compassion and console myself with: “there, there, it's not the end of the world”. But that line no longer works, because the world as we know it is changing dramatically and terribly and it is only going to get worse. It is TERRIFYING. Eastern Australia took a sucker punch to the face with all the smoke and bushfire and suddenly everyone is very painfully aware of the real consequences unchecked climate change. Every day that I open my blinds and see thick haze covering the forest, I'm reminded of how little of that is now left. For the first time, the bushfires are not carbon neutral; because of the drought, it has been predicted that the undergrowth and trees will not be able to replenish themselves, meaning that all of that smoke is just adding millions of tonnes of carbon to our already warming atmosphere. The koala is now functionally extinct yet our government refuses to stop logging native forests. Millions of hectares have burned, unfathomable numbers of animals and insects and other biodiversity have been wiped out. Hundreds of homes have been razed to the ground, people have lost their lives. And we have been told that this is going to be the new normal. From now on bushfire season won’t just be summer, it will include spring as well. Heck, in some areas, bushfires started in late August, which is fucking winter. Our largely unpaid and under-resourced fire fighters are exhausted and spread too thin. They’re now saying to some people in regional and rural areas that they just need to evacuate because there’s no way the RFS will be able to get to them in time to defend their homes. And yet, homes are so hard to come by in Australia that people will give their lives defending their house.
The news is constantly bleak. To go outside is literally toxic. To stay inside is toxic as well. I feel like the walls are closing in on me, and at night I take all that stress with me into bed. The only saving grace is that last year we bought an air purifier. Yesterday we had to spend another $300 to get a second so that I am not confined to one room of the house all day long and so that we can both, you know, breathe clean air when we sleep. (Don’t get me started on how clean air is now a middle class luxury. We’re lucky we could afford to buy one, and even then, only by using AfterPay… This is disgustingly unfair on the poor/disadvantaged).
If this is our new normal I'm not sure that I want to live a long life. I am absolutely terrified of death but I am more terrified of watching the world burn to the ground around me as I age. I'm scared of what humans will be doing to each other once we run out of water and when there is no safe place to go. We like to think that we are okay in a developed nation like Australia, yet we may be one of the worst hit by climate change. With no rain, little arable land, tremendous heat waves (on Thursday Australia was the hottest country on earth) and super fires consuming millions upon millions of hectares, well….
When I was reading about the TMJ pain and clenching, one of the primary treatments is addressing the underlying anxiety that is making you clench each night. I laughed maniacally reading that. Oh yeah, I'm clenching my jaw because I'm terrified of climate change destroying the world. How the fuck am I supposed treat that anxiety? Tell me how I'm supposed to do that?!
So until the world somehow manages to fix itself, I guess that back spasm, jaw clenching and existential dread and anxiety are here to stay.

Latest news on the Australian Bushfires... 6 hours ago - Two fires straddling the NSW and Victorian border have merged, creating a 600,000-hectare "mega-fire" south of the Snowy Mountains amid dangerous and erratic conditions. As dry heat, shifting winds and powerful gusts fanned more than 100 blazes devouring drought-parched bushland throughout southern NSW, the East Ournie Creek and the Dunns Road fire zones came together north of Mount Kosciuszko on Friday evening, near the village of Tooma. RFS spokesman Anthony Clark said a "finger" of the East Ournie Creek blaze had collided with the Dunns Road fireground at the Clarkes Hill Nature Reserve, near the NSW and Victorian border. The Ournie Creek fire already merged with the massive Green Valley fire earlier in the week. Now-realised fears that multiple fires would merge follow hard on the heels of the Gospers Mountain "mega-fire", which ignited in Wollemi National Park and swallowed an area seven times the size of Singapore. North and north-westerly winds will give way to a southerly change at some point overnight, which combined with merging fires, could provide additional challenges from multiple entry points. Mr Clark said they were "expecting fires to potentially spread in two directions overnight." ~ It is now filled the air creeping into the house, with all the doors and windows closed, it still manages to burn the throat and nose, it smell of chemicals and it’s squeezing the lungs... I pray for everyone out there fighting these fires, and I pray for their success and for their safe return to their loved ones. I pray for rain! As the fires inch closer and closer to large populated areas, I hope and pray that the rain comes to hopefully help put out these major fires that are affecting people who may not even be directly near the fire, but surrounding towns and cities are suffering from thick smoke - toxic air - no aircon and heat blistering temperatures... My doors & windows are shut but every single day almost, it’s orange filled skies, thick toxic air that burns and smells & there’s no escape & no where to go... #staysafe #australia #snowymountains #canberra #firefighters #bushfiresaustralia #dv869r https://www.instagram.com/p/B7JMPzTAQTV/?igshid=zdanayyuf3x8

Touted as the largest Victorian-era glasshouse in the world, designed by the celebrated architect Decimus Burton, Temperate House first opened to the public in 1863. After a five-year, $75 million makeover, which involved installing 15,000 new panes of glass and redecorating its metal frame with over 5000 litres of paint (enough to cover four football pitches), it's once again the gleaming "jewel in the crown" of Kew Gardens, housing over 10000 plants from the world's so-called "Goldilocks" zones (basically frost-free climates that are never too hot or too cold).
Sir David Attenborough called it a "breathtakingly beautiful space" when unveiling it in early May, and it's hard to disagree, especially today, with the sun streaming through the roof during one of London's sporadic, mood-enhancing good weather weeks, when there are few more pleasant places to be than Kew, a UNESCO World Heritage site by the River Thames on London's bucolic western fringes.
Home to more than 30,000 different species of living plants – the most diverse collection on the planet – the gardens spread 132 hectares from Kew Palace, a one-time retreat of King George III, having initially blossomed in the late 1700s under the direction of the monarch's friend and confidant, Joseph Banks. A botanist on James Cook's first round-the-world voyage, Banks brought back eucalypts, acacias and banksias from New South Wales, as well as other exotic flora from the Americas, Asia and south Pacific.

Inside the Waterlily House, Kew Gardens. Photo: Alamy
Kew's Australian connections endure, with the director of horticulture here, Richard Barley, a Victorian, formerly of Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens. And one of Kew's most notable 21st century additions, planted by that man Attenborough in 2005, is a Wollemi pine that was believed extinct but discovered in the bush near Sydney in 1994.
We browse several endangered plants in Temperate House, whose soothing atmosphere is enhanced by its trickling water features. Especially alluring is the Encephalartos woodii, a type of cycad from South Africa that resembles a palm and has been dubbed "the loneliest plant in the world". Only male specimens now exist – finding a female has proved to be one of modern botany's biggest challenges.
You could spend all day exploring Kew – and you could come in every season and have a totally different experience, helped by a wide-ranging programme of botanical events and workshops sure to delight green-fingered souls. We're here when the bluebells, wisteria, tulips and magnolia are in full spring bloom and birdsong fills the sweet-scented air. We previously came in early autumn, when the foliage on the gardens' tree-lined avenues and woodlands were tinged with golden, fiery colours.
In winter, especially around Christmas, Kew has a festive feel with illuminations and mulled wine aplenty, and, occasionally – such as when the polar-like "Beast from the East" arrived in March – everything is rather magically carpeted in snow. It's during such cold snaps that you'll really appreciate Palm House, another Decimus Burton-designed glasshouse that's heated like a steamy rainforest and teems with luxuriant vegetation from the tropics. Summer (June-September) at Kew is prime picnic and al fresco concert season, with families and couples congregating on the lawns, by the resplendent roses, and in the dappled shade, sipping Pimms, gin and tonics and fruity ciders and revelling in the Arcadian vibe.
Although you'll find a map is handy to navigate the gardens – you're given one with your entry ticket – it's lovely to just wander (there are signposts in case you get really lost). Besides all the eye-catching flowers and trees, you'll pass cafes, eateries and food and drink pop-ups, Greco-Roman-esque temples and follies, a Chinese pagoda, a Japanese minka and a rustic cottage once belonging to Queen Charlotte, the wife of George III and an amateur botanist who helped expand the gardens.
There are pleasant surprises, too. Next to a lily-layered pond, beneath the twisting branches of Chilean monkey puzzle trees, we see geese and adorably cute fluffy yellow goslings nibbling at the grass. Nearby, one of the resident peacocks struts and fans out his magnificent feathers, but the object of his courtship doesn't seem overly interested. Perhaps she's put off by the small crowd who've gathered, pointing smartphones and cameras.
Don't miss the "wobbling" Treetop Walkway. Ambling amid the canopies of oak, sweet chestnut and lime trees 18 metres above the ground, you'll feel like a kid again, while enjoying a bird's eye view of these enchanting gardens.
