Some propaganda for Audrey. I do think that Eartha will take the whole cake (and if she does, she deserves it), but I do always appreciate an opportunity to share Two for the Road Audrey.
The first image many have of Hepburn is what I call "Dorm Room Wall Audrey," where she's decked out in one of her resplendent Givenchy gowns or vanishing under a large exquisite Cecil Beaton hat.
However, my favorite brand of Audrey is "'60s Mod Audrey on a Roadtrip through the South of France":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two for the Road (1967) was her second to last film in her 1953-1967 hot streak before entering semi-retirement to raise her son Sean and to recover from being married to Mel Ferrer for too long.
It was her third time being directed by Stanley Donen after Funny Face (1957) and Charade (1963) and tells the story of couple Mark and Joanna Wallace (Albert Finney and Hepburn respectively) navigating the ups and downs of their tumultuous yet passionate relationship over the course of 12 years. It's experimental in its nonsequential storytelling, transitioning frequently between different years of their relationship. Essentially, Two for the Road backpacked so Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind could run. It's also very telling that screenwriter Frederic Raphael would go on to write the screenplay for Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
Donen said of directing Hepburn that of all of their collaborations, Road saw Hepburn at her most relaxed. And watching her as Joanna, one does get the sense that she hadn't been so unguarded and comfortable in her own skin since Roman Holiday (1953).
Joanna may have also been the most complex role she ever had the chance to play. The 12-year timeline allows us to see how her naive ingenue persona slowly evolves into the world weary women she played in her later films that were getting sick and tired of men's shit.
Her fashions in the film also gave us a unique off-the-rack Audrey. Her Givenchy wardrobe was often like a suit of armor for her and alleviated her of some of the insecurities she struggled with. In Road, she allowed herself to dispose of that crutch and gave us what I feel is her best performance. The woman got to wear a skintight PVC suit and even jeans and a pair of Converse!

i love all of @gin-juice-tonic's trans stan twins comics and i've centered all my gf beliefs around them, but i can't stop thinking about how funny it would be for stan to be a trans man and ford to be a trans woman.
imagine you're stan and you've been disowned for about ten years and haven't seen your family at all since, and during that time you've found and lost yourself more times than you can count, but you've finally settled on the fact that you're a man and it's time for you to transition. and then as soon as can finally start testosterone, your twin brother wants to see you ASAP.
and so you're stressed out the entire way there, not just because your brother seems to have gotten into some trouble, but because you have no clue how he's gonna react to you now being his brother.
only for him to not even notice or say a single thing about your new wardrobe that still has some of the tags from when you shoplifted it or about the scruff on your chin that you've been pretty proud of.
no, instead he's going on about the fbi and people who want to steal his skin or something.
and so everything happens the same way, and stan has essentially gotten the life he's always wanted: everyone thinks he's his genius brother, he's still in contact with his family (though stanford didn't exactly call home everyday so neither does he), and he's a man — and not one person doubts it. except he's not the man he's always wanted to be because he doesn't have his brother beside him throughout it all, becoming a man with him.
and then stanford comes back and is impossibly autistic and bitter so he just assumes stan went through the process of transition (assuming he used some gender changing potion he found noted about in the journal) just to further steal ford's identity.
and stan explains, no, you fucking idiot, i've been a man for thirty-something odd years and you just didn't notice because you were too busy being insane. and so yeah, that's how stan's whole coming out goes.
and ford just responds with, "oh. yeah, me too. she/they is fine."

Here's new artwork I’ve done for the tabletop RPG DANDIES & DANDYZETTES! This is my rendition of one of our backers, Sid, in a dramatic gown with a Medici collar. Informed by an 1814 portrait of Miss Stanley, an actress at Drury Lane, Sid will help to illustrate the world of the theatre.

I adore trans man or trans woman Stanley Pines AUs but I just wanna throw an au where both Stanley and Stanford are trans women but like...they transitioned in different times.
Stella (Stanley) learned she was trans after she got kicked out and was able to room with a kind group of drag Queens who helped her get a job at a few places and once she's 24 or so she learns she's a trans woman and they help her out, she's still a con woman. She still tricks people but she does it dressed as a male and they can never know Stella is Stanley bc her make up and rhe way she dresses is very different.
Stanford realizes he's trans years after he's stuck in the portal, was able to get either top surgery by a sketchy alien doctor or idk but she's a transwoman named Starla or something.
What's funny however, is that Stella once she takes over Starla's home and let's people see it after paying they find pics of Stanford and Stella just blurts out she's trans after they question it and that was of her before and the town buys it.
Idk how the twins parents feel realizing "Stanford" is now Stella qnd such but oh well they're allowed to stay with her.
But it's a funny cute idea that when Stella is about to say, "the author of the journals my..." and pauses as she sees Starla take off thr scarf and mask and see they look feminine and smiles before shouting, "my sister!"
Just imagine tbh
