I thought it'd be fun to do a what's-in-my-bag for S4 (if anyone can remember that far back lol), and who doesn't love imagining their favs in a cute rpg?? detail under the cut!

I played the first game of a Vampire the Masquerade tabletop rpg campaign tonight and my dudes, I am a lifelong lover of melodramatic Anne Rice vampires and I STILL couldn’t stop thinking about how much more accurate WWDITS is for how real life vampires would be.

Like the whole first game was introducing the politics of the city and the different clans and assembling our party coterie and getting our missions and learning who all the important people and backstories are and all I could think of was Lazlo’s line, “I became a vampire to suck and fuck forever,” not sit in boring ass local municipal government meetings WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT ALL THE VAMPIRE POLITICS IS.

Lazlo is so fucking valid for saying that seriously who the FUCK wants to be a vampire leader with responsibilities, just so you can be forced to micromanage bickering egos for ETERNITY??

I made an ancient Roman Centurion character who was woken from torpor by an archaeologist team, and the first thing she did was get the lead archaeologist to get her up to speed on the modern era and then IMMEDIATELY fuck off for an endless vacation in the Italian countryside with him while secretly promoting his career (by literally just… pointing out places where he should dig and explaining Ancient Roman stuff to him so he always has amazing new, accurate discoveries) and they are just living the LIFE in the countryside outside Rome before the campaign mission pulled all the characters to freezing-ass BOSTON of all places.

Thankfully, I designed the character to be humorous so she can actually say aloud things like, “And people wonder why I don’t give a shit about vampires or vampire politics? Why the fuck am I running errands for local bureaucrats when I could be in a villa on the Mediterranean having my professor boyfriend read Ovid to me under the moonlight, ffs!” Like out of game I’m stoked for the plot the DM has planned but in game I’m laughing at how ridiculous the world of vampires is to anyone with anything better to do with their immortality.

My problem is that when I consume media I instantly want what the characters have. When I watched the adventure zone and other rpg tabletop podcasts I started playing dnd. Then I started writing. I watched JJBA when I was younger and created three Jojo parts for myself for no god damn reason. When I watched phantom of the opera I begun writing a script inspired by it and other things. Common occurrences such as this were common place in my brain and filed my time

And then I watch good omens, wwdits, and our flag means death, and I crave going out for adventure. I crave being able to love unconditionally, I crave the centuries long pining, I crave the freedom that comes with power. I want to soar in the sky yet sit and spend it with someone I love in a way that isn’t human, in a way that is just purely love and purely just to feel loved. It just makes me feel more and more lonely, and makes me want more than I can never get.

It’s abit cringe but what can you do?

The Research Journal of Jonathan Sims, c. 1818: Jon is the Institute's first Archivist (or he will be when it opens later in the year) and Martin is an Institute Librarian from 2018 who crash-lands in his study via accidental time travel.

RQBB2020: I swear I still intend to finish this one. It was a plot bunny I was keeping in my back pocket to write for the Rusty Quill Big Bang in 2020, but I ended up not joining because I realized I wouldn't be able to finish on the deadline. Which, given that it's now two years later, was a pretty accurate assessment on my part. Anyway it's a S4 AU, gist of it is the Distortion starts messing with Jon and Martin's heads and sends them through various real-or-not-real worlds where they have a chance to get a happy ending - Archivist!Sasha AU, coffee shop AU, etc.

Edit 05.09.23: I no longer support AI art. This has been true for a while but I haven't updated my intro. If you go back far enough you may find some art. When I first got into it I thought they used only free photo databases and only art that had entered public domain. I know this was naive now. I liked the hyperrealistic style renders that could generate character inspiration. I didn't know how much art was being stolen and how many styles were being replicated nonconsenually. Honestly when I got into it I was being very delusional. So it took me a while to accept that what was happening with AI art was happening. Using AI art tools for fun was not as completely harmless as it first appeared. I don't want to help that industry, but I do hope one day AI art could be different. Not a threat. Because the programming potential would not be a replacement of human art. AI programming is a special interest bc I think the field needs people who care about the ethics of how AI technology is used. I sometimes blog about AI art in reference to this interest in understanding the industry of AI as a whole and how it can be used for justified choices.
