How did Xiao Xingchen come so quickly? 

There are a few things to consider in this fight. One is that Song Lan can’t have ambushed Xue Yang anywhere near the yizhuang (nor other people, for that matter), otherwise their shouting and clashing of swords would have attracted XXC’s attention way earlier. Another is that, since we have dialogue to “measure up” time, not a long time passes from the corpse poisoning to him arriving at the scene. The only moment when this could have been dragged out is when Song Lan lashes out after having his tongue cut, but I think this last bit of the fight can’t last very long, with the state he was in. 

Therefore, how did Xiao Xingchen get to that relatively remote location in such a short amount of time? We-ell, consider this possibility: he didn’t come because he detected a walking corpse...

...he came because he detected Jiangzai. 

Not that he’d know it, he doesn’t have laser-focus detection powers like that. He just sensed something was amiss at the very beginning of the fight, but could only follow in the general direction until he was close enough (in time and location) for the poisoning to begin and the “fierce corpse” to be easily detectable. But do you remember what he said afterwards?

(How did Xue Yang manage to refrain from making a blind joke here is beyond me, btw)

But there it is! Shuanghua behaved strangely. It may have detected Jiangzai’s resentful energy, but by the time he got there, there was a target much more relevant that masked the presence of Xue Yang’s sword. And if you’re wondering how did he never detect his sword before in the years they were together, I’d argue that Xue Yang was wise enough not to swing his sword around daozhang too obviously, or getting hold of another blade for when they night hunted, or even just get by using talismans. He managed to hide so much more from him, his sword is just one more piece in this puzzle. 

BY THE WAY, going by novel/manhua standards here. I don’t know what they were thinking in the cql drama, beyond making the most of each set, but to have them fighting right in front of their house is beyond stupid. Daozhang literally jumped out the door to meet them. He was probably listening to heavy metal throughout the fight -_-

MDZS AU in which Lan Jingyi is a transmigrator but nothing changes about canon except the fact that one day WWX dons the Dead Anime Mom Hairstyle™️ and LJY goes up to him in a barely concealed panic and says "Wei-qianbei you need to change your hairstyle immediately!!"

Option 1: WWX is confused and a little hurt "I thought I looked nice like this :( Lan Zhan said it suits me... but if you insist..."

Option 2: WWX is also a transmigrator but it slips right out of his mouth that "I already died before, little one, the dead mom hair curse won't affect me anymore" and accidentally gives himself away

Option 3: LWJ is also a transmigrator and the moment he saw WWX with that hairstyle he got cold chills all over but he didn't have the heart to tell WWX (who was so excited about his new look) to change... so he spent the whole day prickly and panicked about whether WWX would die again

oh my god. wait. modern au wei wuxian where he went to prison, and when he gets out he works his ass off to become a defense attorney. he's smart as hell and loves finding loop holes and calling people out when they're breaking their own rules. he'd be a fucking menace in the courtroom.

Chengxian AU where there's no war BUT WWX gets de-aged Detective Conan style and while the two of them are freaking out over it and have to present a cover up for why JC's roaming around the jianghu with a child that suspiciously resembles WWX. So on one hand you have the de-aging villain conspiracy, on the other hand you have Madam Yu getting closer to a heart attack from a wholly different set of rumors.

I hope you take this as the compliment it is intended to be, but you strike the same chord of irreverence-as-love, jokes-to-showcase-sencerity that I get from Chuck Tingle, and I adore both of you.

it’s so weird when a post is explicitly chengxian and then people add lwj into the mix.

I blame CQL and the animation for not sticking to the relationship between wwx/jc faithfully and creating that whole extra subplot of jc/wq in cql bc truly, in the novel when it focuses on wwx/jc friendship, it’s silly teens that are just so intimate and knowledgeable about one another while being blurred with the strange history of their parents and the inherent competitiveness they both have and it’s way more than what could be viewed as just romantic ship or whatever

The conviction wwx has that jc will return with help when trapped in the cave, jc believing in wwx’s words that they are twin prides, jc having faith in wwx finding a core solution, wwx seeing jc’s scars and promising to get rid of them — it’s the little things in their interactions as people who grew up and trust and love each other to the point of giving up their lives for each other!!

it’s frustrating to see a good chengxian post and it being reblogged or commented with other characters that a) were never mentioned in the post b) removes chengxian and makes it some other ship

I just love the intro and expectation we get for Jin Ling in the beginning of the donghua, like he’s flying through the air with his bow shooting 3 arrows at once like an expert marksman, hopping from tree branch to tree branch with his hair majestically blowing in the wind and then for literally the rest of the show, he’s either passed out on the floor or being rescued from a ✨situation✨ ?????
