The Mentalist "Fugue in Red" should have absolutely been a 2 parter but not in the murder case sense. I mean they could have done it that way but it wouldn't have mattered because boy howdy there absolutely NEEDED to have been some kind of emotional resolution.

Honestly with Jane's memory being brought back in such an abrupt and traumatic manner, I had expected him to lash out or shut down and they end up separating after a messy argument.

Lisbon has to do an introspection of what exactly her motivations and whatever while Jane begins to consider his life before and after and everything else.

There was never an episode where Jane and Lisbon were separated by conflicts that didn't involve Red John and this would have been the perfect time to show case them separating because of contrasts of their personalities coming out in the ugliest ways one as a result of one of the most heartbreaking and brutal situations.

So I can absolutely agree with OP's sentiment that BlackLightJack's content has become uh... more aggressive and mean-spirited , and don't get me wrong, that was always sort of his vibe, but now it feels like he's straight up just weaponizing his fanbase and like... y'all know how curt I get about LO here, I can be a real asshole about it, even I think what BLJ is doing feels really shitty, immature, and frankly just uninformed? Because most of his videos are just him pout-screaming profanities into the microphone, like I know this is gonna sound nitpicky and petty but I can literally hear it in his voice that he's enunciating his words the same way an 8 year old would so that spit would land on the person they're yelling at ("STOOOOOOOOO-PPP-UHHHHH") and lately his content just feels like what it used to feel like being in CoD lobbies back in the day. Him having the name 'webtoon killer' just gives me such a sour taste in my mouth. Like... this feels like some kind of Batman villain in the making LMAO

But maybe no one wants to hear that opinion from someone like me who's literally called themselves the "far superior off brand" as a gag LMAO and that's fine honestly if you think I'm full of shit, this is also just my opinion!

But like... and I know I'm being an asshole going 'b-but-!' but... BLJ is also building an entire ass monetized platform off his vibe and using that platform to specifically go after Canvas series and creators. And let me tell you, while many would argue "well it's just the webtoons that are grossly negligent / breaking Webtoons' ToS / etc.", his fanbase is also constantly just sending him new comics to read and trash on and I feel like it's only a matter of time before he goes after a completely innocent creator whose only crime was being not great at webcomics which... shouldn't be viewed as a default crime punishable by pitchforks. That sorta already happened with the Fulcagay situation, I don't know Fulcagay and he almost definitely wouldn't know me, but he's a fellow Canvas creator who I've run into and shared a space with, and BLJ's original comments about him just felt incredibly off-base and volatile without giving even a shred of benefit of the doubt. I get the sense BLJ doesn't know about Hanlon's razor ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity") because EVERY video he does about every comic and creator he's addressing assumes maliciousness always.

This is the same shit we got with Youtube creators like Leafy who became infamous for just taking the piss out of everyone until they took it too far. Like, take it from me, it can be VERY easy to get so entrenched in being an asshole and taking the piss out of everything that completely innocent people get hit with splash damage, and if you're not willing to take responsibility for that, then you're gonna look like a bigger dick than the people you were aiming for. This pee analogy working for y'all? 😆

As for what Matty Bites has to do with that, I don't really get it? Like maybe I'm just misinformed here, maybe I haven't watched enough of her stuff, but she's never given me anywhere near the amount of red flags I get off listening to even one episode of BLJ. Matty feels like someone who actually reads and analyzes and researches the stuff she's criticizing in a way that's relatively harmless with her own flair sprinkled in (and her humor is hilarious btw, her opening skits are great LOL); BLJ meanwhile feels like he's constantly one opinion away from starting a #victimofcancelculture campaign because he's just trying to be as edgy and angry as possible LMAO (and ironically they're both often criticizing the same thing, but it goes to show how delivery makes a hell of a difference when it comes to dishing out criticism)

All that said, if there is something with Matty Bites that I'm missing here, I'm fully open to being informed because I haven't watched many of her videos and there could just as well be something that I've missed. But I don't think she's anywhere near as hostile as BLJ tends to be, I don't think Matty Bites' comedic video editing and sassy commentary has ever resulted in creators actually being attacked and bullied like BLJ's have.

Overall I think anyone who builds a platform or audience off criticizing content (and this includes me!) needs to practice responsibility and accountability in what they put out and what they choose to focus on and criticize. It can be really easy to accidentally use "criticism" as a get-out-of-jail-free card to just be a bully. It can be really easy to wind up leaving your criticism so unrefined and surface level without any deeper reflection that you never actually open your mind to anything and you just end up echoing out hate speech without even intending to. And it can be really, really easy to ruin your own palate from willingly consuming nothing but shit all day.

I'm a new 9-1-1 viewer (binge watched the first 6 seasons like two weeks before the new one came out and been watching season 7 as it comes out) and I'm so glad I found your blog because it annoys me how most of the conversation around the show is always about b*ddie and I really needed to find people who weren't b*ddie shippers. Like, I get why people ship it even if I don't particularly see it or agree with it but they're always trying to prove how this plot point or the other points at them becoming canon next episode and it's so annoying? Especially now that Tommy is in the picture because I think he's such a great LI for Buck and has so much endgame potential but they're all talking about him being a "stepping stone" for their ship and completely ignoring how this is a chance for him to be in a loving, stable relationship in the long run, something he absolutely deserves.

Honestly sometimes I feel like b*ddie shippers don't even care or like Eddie and Buck, they just want them to kiss onscreen and ignore their well written arcs just because they don't end up in them being canon (which honestly after seven seasons of the same clownery they should have learnt by now that maybe it's just not happening and that's okay! they're well thought out, fully fleshed characters that don't need to be involved romantically to have a satisfying storyline!)

it is unfortunate that the show has so many great characters and dynamics that get consistently drowned out by a single fanon ship. i get it if you're just here for b*ddie, but to make a big fuss over losing a single scene in another couple's big episode? when you still got something? sometimes you need a reality check that the show is actually about other people too

fandom is not about hunting for hints that your ship is going canon. like, i have never seen a fandom that seems to spend more time "proving" their ship is gonna go canon than actually, you know, doing fandom stuff. (i was not in spn/destiel, idk what nonsense went on there) we're supposed to ignore what the TPTB say while we play with our dolls because it doesn't matter, not ignore what they say because clearly they're lying and misdirecting and building up to do what they have have said, as explicitly as they can in tv world, won't be happening. this obsession with "going canon" is, frankly, weird in fandom.

my blood pressure goes up when i read the phrase "stepping stone". even if bucktommy doesn't last, they will never have been a stepping stone. one, because it is a relationship, and relationships can't be stepping stones, that is such a cynical way to look at things and really makes me wonder about some of these people's real life relationships (yeah i know it's fiction, but y'all take it too far in your vitriol for it not to be invading your personal lives) and two, because b*ddie is not happening, so it can't be a stepping stone to it.

they have done everything they can except saying "b*ddie isn't happening" because in tvland ambiguity is your best friend. but ryan calling eddie heterosexual twice is not ambiguous. and i've already said, but ignoring what ryan has said about the coming out scene because it doesn't fit your headcanon is extremely disrespectful. it is fiction, but it is fiction made by people drawing from real life experiences and y'all are shitting on that

and tommy does have such potential!! they like to shit on us for saying that, "oh he's only been there for 4 eps, we don't even know anything about him", and, ignoring that we actually do know some stuff about tommy, more than we've gotten for other LI's, that's why we say potential. we are looking at possible future storylines and seeing how tommy could fit. we are looking at what was lacking in prev LI's (not in a deficient way, just in a compatibility way) and seeing how tommy can fill the spaces they couldn't.

we're basing our theories of him at least sticking around for a bit, not on wardrobe hints and coded gazes and what actors post on their socials, but by what we've seen on-screen, what has been said in interviews in black&white no hidden meaning, and by simple knowledge of story pacing.

and we could be completely wrong. that's part of it being a theory; the acknowledgement that it is not guaranteed . once you start insisting something is 100% going to happen, it's no longer a theory

I don't think any of y'all watch The Circle but I am absolutely DYING at the episodes that dropped today. And the only people I know that watch it are coworkers so I gotta wait until tomorrow to really talk about it but oh my god. I gotta say this or I will explode. Under the cut to spare y'all:

I think the way the show is being edited is indicating that Kyle is gonna win it. I hope he does. He has been nothing but loyal and honest to everyone (aside from the fact he's married but that's no problem because Liv isn't exactly honest either)

I HATE Jordan. First of all, get your shoes off the bed wtf. You sleep there. I also get that he's good for tv or whatever because he's brings the drama but that is literally not what anyone likes about the circle. We like the genuine connections that people build in there. We like when the show is wholesome. And he came in and just decided Myles sucked and was manipulating everyone? Because what? People liked him? When he was going around lying about everything? That boy still has insecurities he hasn't fully worked through and is projecting that onto Myles.

I will be so sad if QT goes because she is genuinely such a good player. She's kind but also realistic and she keeps it real with her people that they're playing a game. I'm glad she left that influencer chat with Jordan because she was right. If she blocked anyone he wanted to block, she would look like she can't be trusted. She would be the next one gone. Because Jordan would have been safe since he was the secret influencer, he had no issues gunning for her people. And trying to tell her that her strategy is bad because she doesn't want to break every alliance she has in one fell swoop? He's dumb.

I hope Liv gets rid of Jordan but the smart move would be blocking QT and I honestly think QT would respect her for it. I don't know if QT would throw shade at Liv being a catfish or not though. That is if they make Liv block face to face which is what they've always done in the past so I don't see why they would stop now.

I am happy to see Liv makes it to the finals. I've been up and down with Liv but I do like her and think she deserves to be in the finals. Or he deserves it I guess. Go Brandon.

I want Kyle to win. Out of everyone left, I want him to win. Myles is my favorite but I think Kyle winning would be the sweetest moment.

Jordan can kiss my ass.

I do want Lauren to make it to the finals. I wish she had been in any other season cause I think the AI twist hurt her a lot and she would have been able to build actual connections with actual people which is what I watch the show for.

No seriously. Jordan makes me so mad. All he had to do was literally none of what he did. Why did he come in so nasty? Has he seen the show? Those people never win. Never.

I do feel bad for Autumn and I think if she had come in earlier and had a chance to talk to Myles they could have been friends. I do not know why I think this but I think they would have been friends.

See like, on the one hand, if the body discovery in the third part hadn’t happened, I’d still be worried that Vincent was the new Instrumentalist. But now I’m worried about Vincent for SEPARATE ADDITIONAL REASONS. You have doubled my worries, Mx Wellman. Even so, the missing body doesn’t prove anything except a body was missing, and if I know this show, this will not be a simple answer. FEAR.

🔪 My main thoughts on Malevolent are in this post, but I just have to emphasize how good the writing is in this episode. I love how the witch seems to care, how her appearance of rationality affects John, and how the thing that snaps him out of it is his genuine love for his friend. Now that's human. I love the ending too.

⛪️ This week I started listening to Dead Space: Deep Cover after being asked to play a tiny little baby part in episode four (see if you can spot me). This show is wonderful. I'm not a Dead Space fan, just because I don't really play video games much, but I've been told by several fans that it's not only an excellent example of lore-building, it's just a darn good show. I certainly like it a lot--it's always good to hear Jordan Cobb absolutely eat a role, and I am fascinated by the mystery.

Okay, so, I'm trying to figure out how to phrase this so I don't get in trouble with creation or violate any of the rules. But I have to share what happened at my meet and greet with Misha on Sunday at VanCon and how that led to this insanity during the Jensen and guests panel...

So a little bit of background, I'm one of the administrators on the Twitter and Tumblr account for the Winchester daily updates (@thewinchestersupdates , @twdailyupdates on Twitter, give us a follow if you don't already!) Which means I've read all of the press that's come out related to the Winchester's. And it's very well documented that before Jensen and Danneel started chaos machine productions and came up with the Winchester's idea, that they had a little rewatch pilot with Misha to watch Lazarus Rising (Jensen first talks about filming it during the rosenbaum podcasts audio linked below)

So of course, being a fan of Misha and the Ackles, I knew this weekend I wanted to ask someone about this zoom call they filmed! So in my m&g with Misha I asked him basically (in a jumbled word salad cause I was nervous)

"In press about The Winchesters Jensen's talked about a lazarus rising rewatch you guys did during quarantine so (1) will y'all be sharing the video and (2) how was it rewatching your episode?"

And this man says "there's video? What?"

And then the m&g room all say it's a podcast and blah blah blah (I'm pretty sure it wasn't a podcast cause Jensen talked about filming a pilot and building a set but whatevers 🤷‍♀️) and Misha looks so confused and has no clue what I'm talking about. I chalk it up to the fact that no one can remember what happened at the beginning of quarantine. So I'm like "oh okay" facepalm and THEN this fucker (affectionately) says "oh you know Jensen and danneel, after they put the kids to bed, they just... Watch videos of me." 💀

So that was gonna be my private shame and since it's a m&g story I wasn't gonna share it.

Until.....

I'm sitting in Jensen's panel and here a high pitched squeal asking Jensen about watching Lazarus Rising and watching videos of Misha. And I. ABSOLUTELY. LOSE IT. No one in the audience but the other 19 m&g attendees have no context for Misha's question, but I KNOW WHAT HES DOING. So I'm basically shaking and freaking out and cannot explain to anyone why this is insanity. Jensen mocks misha's affect and asked if he was doing Ruthie's voice but I think he was mocking ME asking that question in my scared wobbly voice lmao 🤣

And of course Jensen asks Misha if he (Jensen) should answer the fans question or "mishas horrible question" and I wanted to sink into the floor 😂

And if you've seen the video, you know how Jensen answers the question and the clusterfuck the answer turned into.

So of course, I have Misha's auto later that night and I decide I have to say something to him. I was getting the poem Taxi signed by him, which means a lot for me and how I see my relationship with my mom, and I was gonna say something about how much it resonates with me, but instead I had to pivot. So I went up to his table and put down my items to get signed and said to him:

"Misha I have a bone to pick with you. You stole my m&g question to ask Jensen at his panel today!"

And this man says "What question?!"

So of course I say "the Lazarus rising question. And I think I'm entitled to financial compensation for you stealing my question." And he turns to his handler and says something and turns back to me and says "I'm asking her if it's too late for you to get a refund."

So I laugh and then he said "it was a good question!" And I said "Thank you for asking it! I wasn't expecting the answer to go in that direction though" and he just gives me a look, cocking his head to the side, and I grab my items and run away 🤣

Anyway, I'm still waiting to find out what happened with that pilot episode and if it'll ever see the light of day 🙏

(Also, based on my own experience this weekend, I wouldnt be surprised if Misha genuinely cannot remember stuff in response to my questions because he's busy and frantic and short term memory kind of does in all the stress but if he was just jerking me around all weekend that was the best experience ever)

lemme start off with our favourite Miss Jolly Rancher Unhinged Clock and Victorian-Era HWR Fangirl. I KNEW Ravonna had somehow helped HWR in building the TVA, but him erasing her memories was straight up evil.

Then we come to the absolutely gruesome deaths of Dox and the others. HOLY SHIT MISS JOLLY RANCHER IS AWFUL like she was enjoying every second of Dox and her hunters literally getting crushed to their deaths. B-15 was traumatised, to say the least and you can see on Ravonna and Brad's faces a hint of disgust. But Miss Minutes grinning like that - outright disturbing.

I can't get over OB and Victor fanboying over each other's work - it was so funny yet wholesome.

Now let's talk about Loki and Sylvie. As a diehard Sylki stan you know I am, my fangirling heart was overjoyed seeing these two lovesick ducks working together willingly! I mean, yea, they did have that rather awkward talk in Pie Land (mind you that's it's official name henceforth) but after that they worked together as teammates! Now I must say, I completely agree with Sylvie on snapping on Mobius, because, well, yeah, the multiverse is a bigger priority than pie and I legit don't get why tf antis hate on Sylvie for doing so. Like you hated her for not giving a damn abt the TVA + the multiverse, but now when she stood up to do so y'all are hating on her again?? Like?? Make up ur mind, smh.

Anyways, back to Sylki. Sylvie got stuck in the elevator and the way she and Loki worriedly called out each other's names was so soft! And the "You ok?" trope CAME BACK OMG! THAT PHRASE IS LITERALLY THE BACKBONE OF SYLKI! When I tell you my fangirling heart screamed with joy omg-

The the whole paradox scene which brought Ep 1 back in a circle. I absolutely loved the way our Loki realised what he had to do and went real slow to prune his past self just so that Past Loki could get a glimpse of Sylvie; which would then lead him to be more determined than ever to go look for her. And I quite literally died on Sylvie being confused af as to wtf she just witnessed.

Then there's the telephone scene. OH MY GOD it was literally OB all this time when fans were out here speculating it was Kang or someone lmao. Both Loki and Sylvie yelling simultaneously to turn the security thing off gives out so much Couple Vibes, I absolutely loved it AAHHAHAH-

AND. THE. BRAD. SCENE. OOF.

our friendly neighbourhood lovesick ducks teaming up to enchant Brad was just too good. Loki in his hot, creepy voice luring Brad into a dark area while Sylvie very swiftly just straight up grabbing his face from the back - pure horror. Absolutely loved it, 10/10. Tho I must say, to do execute elaborate scheme, these two must have done some detailed planning (=more Sylki moments we were robbed off).

BUT THAT ENDING DUCKING MURDERED ME BROO OMG

Can we talk abt Victor's redemption? Man had been portrayed as evil since Quantumania, and has been manipulated by both Ravonna and Miss Jolly Rancher, but at the end of the day, he was a sweetheart. Man fanboys OB and basically became besties with him and Casey, worked together to create the solution to a mess he most certainly didn't want to be a part of, and then himself stepped up to fix the Loom once and for all to prove to everyone (and not let Sylvie's choice of sparing him go to waste) that tho he contained HWR's DNA, he wasn't HWR - he was a far better person HWR could have ever been. Seeing him getting spaghettified was tragically heart-wrenching, man deserved so much better :(

BUT HOLY SHIT DID THAT ONE HECK OF A GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER LEFT ME SPEECHLESS LIKE WTF WAS THAT?? U can't just kill off a character who had redeemed himself, and then make our main character and his homies watch literally EVERYTHING THEY WORKED SO HARD FOR GET ANNIHILATED TO THE GROUND-

But we know our God of Mischief isn't dead, and so are his homies eheheh.

However the looks on everyone's face was tragic. Loki knew all was lost and had tears in his eyes. Sylvie looked like she had accepted defeat and her death. Mobius and OB were in denial, refusing to believe that Victor was dead. Casey and B-15 looked horrified, as they realised what was to come now upon them.

Tldr, this episode was an ABSOLUTE BANGER. IM READY TO CLAIM IT SUPERIOR THAN ENDGAME, come and fight me. Its a top cinematic piece, and the suspense to Ep 5 is eating me up.

Tokyo in April is... Ep 6 Stray Thoughts

Last week, Ren took on a facilitator role after a colleague came forward to him about Sanada preying on women at their workplace. Meanwhile, Ren and Kazuma have settled into comfortable domesticity. Kazuma made putting on a shirt and talking about pasta absolutely sexy, but unfortunately Ren ran into Kazuma's mom in the shirt she made for him, so it's time for Ren to panic and regress.

Ah yes, let's start by returning to the shirt scene again and add even more sweetness before we deal with mom.

"That shirt doesn't suit you." Brutal.

I like the way they filmed all of this spiral for Ren. I like the way they intercut with the young actor and used voiceover. I like the angles of Ren freaking out in a tunnel inside of Kazuma's shirt that's too big for him.

Oh, baby boy. Don't apologize for loving him.

Rain? After the La Pluie finale?? Don't do me like that.

Kazuma is going out in the rain again. He better not get sick and die again.

Are they filming in legit rain? He's having to genuinely hold this umbrella.

Feels like I'm going to be building up quite the collection of boys who lost their loves years ago and now have abandonment issues.

I love when we have to spend an episode with a character in romantic despair they show memories of things we didn't see. It feels like it's things that are specifically special for the one left behind.

I'm glad Ren isn't just wallowing somewhere, and is still on mission.

Oh no. They're actually doing that plotline next week.

I tell ya. Even knowing some of the beats from the source material, I was not prepared for how hard the separation was going to hit on screen.

Okay, don't get me wrong I love the take of wenclair giving Starfire and Raven vibes but may I present y'all with BBRae? Beastboy and Raven because the parallels y'all, no one cannot tell me they don't have the same vibes. I need a wenclair au now. I mean Wednesday getting referred to as a raven just set me off.

Guess I'm writing it once I actually have time for something other than work 💀

They both learn a lot from each other but also firmly stay true to themselves. Him saving her in a sudden transformation as a beast from another beast. Having a heart to heart under the night sky. Raven being manipulated by a love interest for Beastboy to be there to let her know she's not alone and they hug. They had one of the sweetest damn platonic relationships and had such beautiful potential for a truly healthy relationship (and they do have one in other adaptations). The idea that "oh why can't they just be friends" was often thrown around with this ship. "Just friends" always sounds so damn dismissive to me as if friendships aren't that important. I've mentioned this before but as someone who is demiromantic, that emotional bond is very important to me. It should be important for any relationship really, because some of the most loving relationships that last occur when the couple is first friends then lovers. Even if the close friendship never turns into something romantic that bond's importance does not diminish, love is powerful and doesn't always need to be sealed with a kiss, it can be sealed with a hug. If Wenclair becomes canon freaking amazing, beautiful, love to see it. Slow burn all the way even, i wanna see how their friendship continues to build, all their dynamics, the slow realization of what they mean to each other and if that turns romantic poetic cinema. And if it doesn't, that's okay too. But dear God Wednesday as a character needs that emotional growth with a partner, especially after this season. I cannot accept another love interest if it is not built on strong emotional grounds for her because honestly, this is Wednesday Addams we're talking about. A show focused on her needs to build her very careful and I think they did that beautiful with Enid as well as her friendship with Eugene. Eugene is a very sibling like bond and I absolutely love that for her. She goes out of her way to visit him at the hospital and even opens up in his presence because it's comforting. And Enid, just wow, she truly managed to gain Wednesday's trust. And same for her. That hug being the climax of the series and not a romantic kiss just spoke to me. I can't wait to see how their friendship grows. If romance is to bloom, I'd be happy with Season 2 end being a realization of what their bond means to each other, Season 3 subtle mutual pining and treading waters, Season 4 canon at the start finally and a lovely full season of them figuring their relationship out whilst adventuring together. That way we get a proper romantic development between the two that isn't rushed in the last season or just the last episode and realistic for Wednesday's character, whilst not risking Netflix cancelling the show (precautionary but at this point it really does feel like Netflix just cancels anything with canon wlw).

One Last Starco Sucker Punch

Back in Sept 2022, there was an anniversary Q&A with Daron, Adam, and a few others. One response in particular from Daron is, frankly, so mindboggling that even this many years after my very vocal frustrations with S4 in particular, it still managed to shock me in a new and terrible way.

I'll say, I do imagine that Star and Marco are happy wherever they end up in the future, and I do in some ways kind of see them possibly- you know, hey if they're together, if they're not together, maybe they'll get back together- they're very young. That was always something too that I've had some reservation about, because they do have this really lovely romance where they really come together as this like, you know, two characters who just really love each other but are these two good friends but they are really young and, hey. Most people should not actually get together with the people they meet in highschool, so that's... yeah. But I like to think that eventually maybe they come back and they're happy... but I don't know! I don't know where we might go exactly and I don't wanna say 'cause- if that happens I want the option to not have everybody yell at me if I change my mind about something.

So you're telling me you submitted an episode for an Annie nomination entirely about how the main characters couldn't just go back to normal friends anymore, did it AGAIN via magical asspull in S4 because the tension was impossible to stall off any longer otherwise, DIRECTLY concluded that even that magical asspull meant nothing because it was all real the whole time, and then DEDICATED HALF THE FINALE to how momentous and important Star and Marco's journey had been, but maybe they break up because kids do that sometimes????

Can you fucking imagine a murder mystery that builds up for years and they FINALLY solve the case and arrest the murderer, and then the creator says "well maybe the jury finds them innocent and they're not convicted, who knows, that happens sometimes! The justice system is weird like that!" Well you don't have to imagine, because I've (BARELY) modified the above answer for just that context!

I've always been a massive advocate for character and relationship arcs not being some lower form of storytelling, there's no reason a complex plot and characters' emotional journeys shouldn't be held to similar standards of integrity and consistency. And I'm not saying a hypothetical future requires them to be 100% perfectly happy forever, I'm absolutely sure they'd bicker and disagree on some stuff. And characters are allowed to grow and change in sequels too, but there's a huge distinction between a genuine character arc and "actually the entire first series' emotional climax didn't matter and its resolution just undid itself because life is random like that sometimes!"

Look, you could say I'm maybe being uncharitable, and I acknowledge that this is just a casual off the cuff answer years and years after they wrote the story. Even though I've soured so, so much on most of the show over the years, I will gladly sing the praises of the emotional highs in the finale and how good that last few minutes is as a thematic sendoff for the main two dorks, and some unscripted Q&A response doesn't change that. But at the very least it means that whatever conviction she might have had about it is flimsy now, and with Disney's current raging reboot 'rection, there's a terrifyingly nonzero chance SVTFOE gets another chance in the limelight.

My time as a fan has long passed, but as someone who did care very deeply about Star and Marco's journey, it's frankly fucking insulting to see it so casually disregarded like this by the person likeliest to be involved in its hypothetical future.

I've seen some people talk about it! but honestly not as much as it deserves because respectfully, HUH?

Yeah it really was something. I was having a really weird night when I went through it and got super excited for some silly little escapism. But I just couldn't bring myself to like it. I don't want to knock absolutely anyone but after a year-long hiatus I was excited and it just felt...so unsatisfactory? I can see the vision, I always loved the harem ends for the other episodes. But those always felt like wholesome little snippets into the brothers dynamic that you never really got in any singular route. With how isolated the brothers felt from one another in the main games, it's really nice to see them interact. Whenever they do it's super interesting! ML did a good job fleshing out personal details during the Seducemeask era, but I've always been sad a lot of that didn't end up getting portrayed in the final games. But that never felt like it happened.

I think my main criticism comes down to the fact that they do nothing but try to appease the MC the entire episode. This was definitely an issue during certain parts of the games but the harem episode is the absolute worst example.

Because the boys are trying so hard to accommodate the MCs tastes, they end up falling flat as characters. They feel watered down because they aren't working in their own best interests a lot of the time. And because the MC is supposed to be an insert for the player... they don't have any character either. The whole thing just ends up being super frustrating because for there to be any conflict the MC has to just be super dense. I wish this sequence of events revealed any character from them but no. It just felt self pitying and a tad pathetic. This felt super out of character with the MC as we knew them. The MC in the main games?? Feisty as shit. Just crumpling immediately instead of facing the issue doesn't seem right.

Additionally, the emphasis on how ~unconventional~ polyamory is just made me uncomfortable. The MC invited 5 homeless demons into their home for goofies in the first game, am I really to believe they put that much stock in convention? I think I understand the intention behind those lines, but it's just so heavily insisted upon at every moment. If the MC had instead put an emphasis on the boys perspective on polyamory rather than societal expectation I would have felt way better. It could reveal how much they care for the boys and what is best for them. But instead it comes across as a bit selfish. "They wouldn't share me and that's all there is to it", makes me feel like they don't know the boys super well. And then when they're proven wrong we just skirt past that!!! Yes an unconventional situation leads to an unconventional response, but it could have been a great opportunity to show a healthy and informed conversation on both sides. Instead it just happened so quickly... what would that actual dynamic work like with each of the characters? WORK WITH ME

The build up to the confession and then the lack of true substance in the agreement just made the ending feel so abrupt. When the boys confessed I didn't feel anything. There needs to be some proverbial glue holding these relationships together, but I personally never saw it. Their love for each other was just supported by a trust me bro energy that I'm simply not buying. I just felt confused as to why the boys were going so far out of their way for this person who had the mental constitution of a ritz cracker.

And it was so sudden and so goofy I couldn't stop myself from laughing. AND THEN IT ENDED!!!! I didn't feel any sexual attraction to that whole display whatsoever but I think I was supposed to? I ended the whole experience feeling like I didn't have any idea what I had just witnessed. All i know is that THIS will live on in my nightmares for years to come.

I'm making a story of my own which is also character driven! So, again, it's really nice to stretch my legs in writing too. :)

I'm glad you think so highly of my fanfiction!! I really wish a season 3 could've happened!! It's been fun trying to juggle all the characters and set them up for their own arcs.

Yes!! I feel like a lot of the show was building up a lot of themes to identity, finding yourself, loss/grief (of various kinds: Loss of family, loss of oneself, etc). But also showing the opposite theme: Of finding yourself, relief, peace and acceptance. Even moving onwards.

Themes that Vee represents/embodies really well - especially as a shapeshifter.

I think, for one, Hunter and Luz was supposed to have opposite arcs. Hunter finds himself and Luz loses herself. They would balance, thematically, off of one another. While still keeping Luz' struggle as the main character as the force to move the plot along; Hunter's arc only getting spotlight to support/dual Luz journey/decline/rise.

Taking the season three episode titles, I lean on the "for the future" one the most, as I think Luz dealt with a lot of doubt about where she fits in and what she can provide going forward (both for herself and her friends/family).

And I think Jacob would've been an interesting character. As much of a gag he is, he does represent certain aspects of both Luz and Belos.

He wants to be the chosen one (like both of them) and he wants to do something for his town (save it from witches, like Belos), and he wants to fit in with his community (like Luz) and can't quite find a way to do so. Perhaps even losing sight of what is going right in his life in favour of the grander greater thing (like both Belos and Luz) - That if they don't fit in with normal, perhaps it needs to be abnormal, and grand, and epic.

Another of Bee's Rants that Absolutely No One Asked For !!!!

Today's Topic: MCD Season 2 Laurance 👎

I'm really going to be talking about season 2, episode 95 of Diaries. I don't really see a lot of people talk about this but when I do they always think Laurance is in the right. If you don't remember, the episode was about Aphmau taking Leona and Nekoette out to look around the Island. Aaron had just died I think 3 weeks or maybe a month prior to this, so still very soon after his death. Aphmau saw an Imp that took the form of Aaron and she had to kill it. She then took Leona and Nekoette back and sat on the beach. Here is what I want to talk about. Aphmau is there clearly upset about what happened and it brought up memories of Aarons death. But here comes Laurance. He starts by telling her he understands his sacrifice and then says "actually, I take it back, I really don't understand". And then goes on to ask her why she cared so much about him, and why she even cared about his death, and what was her relationship to him. This was 3 weeks after his death and he was traveling with them a really long time. Even if Aaron and Aphmau weren't a thing, I'm sure she would still be mourning his loss like this. Another thing Laurance says is that he has been there for her while she's been building her village, but this is the first time we've seen him in a while because he has been off trying to ignore "the calling". Laurance was being insensitive but he was also somewhat in the right because he deserves answers. He didnt know about her and Aarons relationship and was still pining over her and she let him. She could have told him about their relationship before Aaron died, but she kept it to herself. They were both in the wrong in this situation. She kept her and Aarons relationship a secret, and he was asking her insensitive questions and telling her Aaron wasn't important and to just move on. (saying all of this as laurance enjoyer, i love this man but y'all sometimes he does really stupid stuff). But even before this he was starting to get defensive, for example, when Aphmau was worried about Aaron and Vylad when she couldn't find them after O'khasis was invaded. He was so angry with her for being worried about them. He starts getting super protective after that and is jealous of every guy she worries about. It's just really .... weird. He kinds of treats her like an object which is really gross. And no one wants to talk about it cause they're all on the "lets shit on Aaron" bus. Especially people who are fans of laurance or people who just really hate Aaron.

Time For Another Sanders Sides Analysis!!!

Oh, you thought I was done talking about my analyses of this series for a while? HA! YOU THOUGHT WRONG! I have more things to say!!

So! I talk about Roman and all the angst that's been building up for him a lot on this blog, but sometimes when I do so I get responses both agreeing with what I'm saying but also mentioning that all the other sides deserve to go a little berserk as well.

So today I'm gonna be talking about why I mainly focus on Roman in these posts other than just the fact that he's my favorite character!! And believe me, we have a lot to go over. So let's get started!!

First let's talk about Roman's arc in comparison to Logan's, since they seem to be the ones who're the closest to snapping right now.

Logan's main source of conflict is that he's being ignored. By Thomas, by the other sides, you get the jist of it. He, like all the other sides, absolutely deserves to have his issues addressed. But here's where the big difference between his issues and Roman's issues comes into play.

Logan, has already had a few moments where his anger has gotten to shine through. Obviously it's never been to enough of an extent that it could be considered, what I like to call, a "berserk moment", where he gets his chance to yell and truly crack a little bit, but it's definitely something!

Meanwhile Roman, has been sticking all of his emotions in a box and hiding it under the bed. He's been so desperate to be seen as good by Thomas that he's been willing to put up with pretty much anything to stay that way.

In Selfishness vs. Selflessness, he thought what he needed to do was befriend the dark side! Just like Patton did with Virgil! So that's the direction he went in.

His getting along with Janus in that episode can be found in this scene:

As well as in a couple others that I didn't have enough time to go grab screenshots from.

When that plan didn't end up working out, he started going against Janus! Just like Patton was doing!

And now that's not working either.

Even now, when he thinks that (almost) everyone hates him, he's still hiding most of his emotions away from everyone just for the chance that things'll go back to the way they were before.

That's why in the past few episodes he's shown up in he's been supposedly doing so much better than he was at the end of POF. Although you can definitely see a small bit of it peeking through the cracks during his section of the plushie video.

Logan's gotten the chance to yell. In Learning New Things About Ourselves,

And it while it hasn't been much, it certainly seems to be more than what Roman's gotten.

"Oh but Elizabeth! Roman's been all angry at Janus recently! Doesn't that count for something?"

Honestly Hypothetical Reader, I don't think it does! Roman's dislike of Janus didn't really start showing up until after the trial in SVS, which makes me believe that that dislike initially was only there because he was following Patton and the others and didn't want to be siding with the person who everyone else saw as the villain.

The reason he was still siding against Janus after the little fight sequence with Lilypadton feels like something that might've been caused by extra confusion. Something like "Wait, why is now any different than before?! This doesn't make any sense to me!!" instead of genuine dislike. And then of course Janus said that he was just like Remus, and that dislike became very, very genuine.

All in all, Logan's already gotten a few small chances to show his anger, and Roman's gotten pretty much none.

Obviously they both need to have their issues resolved, and this post is not intended to say that Roman's issues are much more important than the others's are. But this is mainly why I'm so excited to see Roman's "berserk moment" over the other characters's. He most definitely needs it.

If y'all have any thoughts you'd like to add onto this they'd be greatly appreciated! I'd love to hear your opinions on all this.

But other than that, I think that's where I'm gonna end today's analysis.

This is probably silly to fixate on, but I'm currently upset about the cruelty (often with a healthy subtext of bigotry, but not always) from the anti-shippers. Since the finale, they have been *crowing* about the lack of Buddie. Just saw a post here literally telling Buddie fans to leave the fandom now, how much they despise them for having the audacity to compare Buddie to Bathena, and banging the "y'all were delusional and baited yourselves" drum that we've heard since season 4 (and I have to laugh about that because the anti-shippers have been saying that BUT the show always gets rid of the LIs, even when it doesn't make sense to do so if they REALLY wanted to reject Buddie and settle the men with endgame female love interests).

And this person wasn't even a known nasty blog, it was just a random, and their post was liked by a popular blogger who has created GIFs and posts that I really enjoyed. Like awesome to know that you think so poorly of all of us! Way to rub it in! Respect for differences? What's that?

Again, probably stupid to be in my feels about that. Obviously it always sucks to be kicked when you're down. But it's even harder to accept because I feel like there is revisionist history and even gaslighting regarding how the relationship has evolved and been treated by the show. No, WE did not create all the parallels. Oh, and not to mention interviews with the ORIGINAL showrunner Tim Minear and how he refused to shut down that it could become romantic. Yet the "It was SO obvious and you all are just delusional! YOU BAITED YOURSELVES!" crowd is having a field day. For the love of God, shut UP.

Lots of love and hugs for you and everyone feeling this, Nonnie! I stayed out of the tag (and off my dash too actually) for the most part for several days for my own health and sanity. And you're absolutely right, we did not imagine the parallels, even people who don't ship Buddie were sitting up and taking notice of Eddie's reaction in 6x10, Buck on the couch in 6x12, the poker date and color scheme for everyone that episode, and that talk in the cemetery. We weren't seeing things and it's disingenuous to say that ALL people who shipped Buddie were delusional. Yeah, some of the people I saw on Twitter had some takes about Buddie for sure going canon that were very *side eye, are you alright there?* but overall the narrative just like it has every season, felt like it was building to something only to swerve at the last second and leave fans hanging after THEY did the work to hype up the show and keep it trending (positively) online.
