okay so i know everyone is mad at the other anon for bringing up AI, but like… isn’t it kinda fair to say that once you publish a teaser or fic, and then don’t update it for months, it’s natural for readers to want closure in their own way? idk… i feel like that anon was being really polite with you. they even said it was just for personal use and like ai exists to make life easier?? so why is it such a crime to want to see the ending if the writer isn’t giving one? isn’t that the whole point of technology? you didn’t have to be that mad at them. you could’ve just said no without cursing and yelling. i’m sorry but it just feels a bit much. and tbh if they didn’t ask and used gpt anyway, you wouldn’t even know, so what’s the point of being so aggressive?

i will start with the obvious. AI models 'learn' from the content fed into it. it regurgitates and steals content from human writers, whether it's our style/voice/tone or our actual words. our work is repurposed without our permission. "not everyone who disagrees with you is a villain," yes, but anyone who enables this system is.

"they even said it was just for personal use and like ai exists to make life easier??" at whose expense? mine? i write for enjoyment and community. i do not HAVE to make fanfiction. no one does. no writer owes you ANYTHING, even if they publish it online.

Hi, guys! Let's talk about fandom etiquette!

I know a lot of you are young and perhaps have not been part of fandom spaces since the dawn of time (circa fanfiction.net) so let's talk about some dos and don'ts with fandom, so we can keep this a happy place! Please read this and reblog to get this out to people who genuinely may not know!

📕DON'T: Write reviews of fics on Tumblr, Tiktok, or other social media. Fic writers are creating these things for FREE, and did not ask you to review. This often leads to negative discourse and can even cause fic writers to take down their fics. 📗DO: Leave kudos and ONLY POSITIVE comments. Talk about only positive things on social media. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!

Edited to add: YES, EVEN CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISCISM. If the author didn't ask for it, don't give it. Some may appreciate it, but others won't. At the very least, ask permission first.

📕DON'T: Post fic ideas or headcanons on AO3. AO3 is for posting actual fanfiction or fanart and nothing else. (What I mean by this is, I've seen posts on ao3 like "Just posting an idea that someone should write, here it is!" and that's not what ao3 is for). Edited to add: You can also post original works and nonfiction works based on fandom on ao3! 📗DO: Post headcanons and ideas on Tumblr, Tiktok, etc!

Edited to change: Okay, so I feel like there's some arguments over like...what qualifies as metafic versus something that shouldn't be on AO3? So from my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), people DEFINITELY should not be posting just a title with no work attached, which I have seen a lot lately, nor should they be posting to search for someone else's fic. However, it seems like lists, and similar metafic are okay, as well as original content, and nonfiction.

📕DON'T: Repost entire fanfictions without permission or sell bound fanfiction. Again, this causes writers to take their fics down, and can actually cause issues with fandom because it can cause allegations of copyright infringement. 📗DO: Recommend fics you like to others by talking them up and posting links! Ask permission before you translate!

📕DON'T: Send hate to authors for writing a fic in a way you don't like or not updating enough. Again, authors are doing this for free and sending hate causes serious mental harm to authors because they are people! If you don't like it, don't read it! 📗DO: Send love to authors in forms that they are comfortable with!

📕DON'T: Shame others for their ships/fics/kinks. Fandom is supposed to be a supportive space! Judging people is taking away that safe space! 📗DO: Use the block button! Block or filter out things or people you don't like!

📕DON'T: Use AI to create art or fics. This is detrimental to the creators who work hard to create their work! 📗DO: Try making your own art or fics! Practice makes perfect!

These are just a few of the things that I've seen happening more lately, but keep in mind that if you don't like something, you don't have to interact with it and fanart and fanfiction creators are people who are doing this for free. Please make sure to respect the hard work people put in, or fandom can't exist!

I just had a talk with my thesis supervisor and I want to check something real quick.

I want to write my bachelor's thesis about fanficion and AI - specifically about fanfiction writers' attitude towards the use of generative AI in fandom spaces

1. The survey will be anonymous!

2. The survey will be in English (but the rest of my thesis will not. I am however required to write an abstract in English)

3. My supervisor said it's fine if I want to focus on one fandom - In this case it will be the HP fandom. However I would like to include as many reposnes as I can, so it will probably not be a requirement to be in the HP fandom.

4. You don't need to write fanfiction to take part in the survey (but there will be a question if you read and/or write fanfics). You need to be in the fandom though

5. You need to be over 18 (most likely)

I want to keep myself anonymous as well so there is a possibility I will have to make a separate sideblog/account for it.

If anyone will be interested in the results, for some reason - I am required to write the abstract in English, so I might share the abstract. Maybe. More info after I write anything for my thesis.

tl;dr for the pjo fandom 🔱

• In the six years that I have been on ao3, 0.5% of all total readers i've had have left a comment on one of my fics. zero-point-five percent.

• Please support fic writers, fan artists, & other creators with comments. Kudos are great, but letting us know with words what you enjoyed about the piece or just that you're Unwell about it in general is the best thing a creator could ask for! It's why we do what we do!

• Yes, this includes every kind of fic you enjoy. I promise you, no one is going to "catch" you lurking on the "wrong" fic (define "wrong" fic??) and even if they do, block them, because no one should be telling anyone what to read & not read.

• This also goes for fics you think "have enough comments" (they don't, or this post wouldn't exist), or are "too old" to the point of which it would be "weird" to comment. I promise you, those stigmas are not real, and no author has ever thought it was "weird" to recieve a comment on a fic they still choose to have on their profile (in fact, they're probably thrilled that the work is still making people happy!).

• Please don't use AI to make fandom creations for you! There are thousands of people in fandom looking to take requests, and fandom thrives from engagement!

• You cannot complain about a dead fandom or disheartened creators leaving the fandom space if you are not doing your part to ensure they feel appreciated.

• Most of my comments come from older people in fandom, from early 20s to 30s. Don't let commenting become a practice that dies with older gen z & millennials!

• I don't normally push to boost posts, but if you'd like, you should reblog this to share with people in the fandom! I want to try to do my part to help other creators feel appreciated as well! 💌

Just realised that JK was in NY up until a day before the trip, which means he wasn’t in Korea and was busy with a schedule whilst Tae decided to self insert himself, just imagine that and not being able to stop him.

You made me go and look it up. Yes, Jungkook had that performance at Global Citizen Festival. He arrived back in Seoul on the 25th and left for Jeju on the 26th, which was the first day of the trip. And if the entire story about the schedule gc and feeling left out is true, it means Jungkook might have found out about the changes in his trip right before his flight or during it.

I can't help but think how that news was received. He was done with work for just a bit because a few days later 3D was about to be released. But they managed to squeeze a few days to be together for the show on Jeju and then everything changed.

But, judging by their bigger luggage and what Jungkook said about visiting his parents for Chuseok, it's possible jikook traveled to Busan afterwards.

And if those rumors and sightings of jikook in August in Jeju are true, then they at least had the chance to be there together. The hijacking only happened when the cameras were rolling.

There's one thing that I want to say here as well. I don't understand how it's possible for stans to use whatever logic they want and disregard common sense and what is a common response to a situation, just because they were taught to "love" some kpop idols. But it goes to show how the BH/BTS brainwash works on army. Because it is a normal and common reaction in real life to at least get annoyed if someone, be it a friend or family member, would suddenly say they felt left out and invited themselves to a trip that had been arranged and planned accordingly in a way that was also on point thematically with the AYS concept. It would suck and we would complain and swear here and there and depending on the relationship we have, we would accept the situation or say no to that person.

But in fandom spaces (I include here army, solo fans, akgaes, shippers, etc), all of a sudden, that is not only allowed to be said/commented on/criticized, and there's a huge backlash, with arguments that mostly boil down to: "vminkook love each other, you all have lost the plot, touch some grass". Because the act of looking at these people as regular folks just like us, who can be assholes (just like us), who can ruin the vibe (just like us), who can make passive aggresive comments (just like us), is something completely absurd.

And lastly, if someone talks about being left out and has to insist on being included, it means he wasn't wanted there in the first place. Having some self respect and self awareness does wonders though!

That lorefm thing finally made me lock my fics. The thing I really didn't about the debacle wasn't the app itself (I hate it but I knew something would be done after all that backlash) but the people defending it and not understanding why writers are upset and seeing writers as terrible people for not supporting the app even after all the explanations given. It having that kind of support is scary to me cause it meant the people behind the app and others might try again cause there'd be people into it. Then there's also seeing someone's post saying "Fanfic is already stealing from IPs and now you're all mad someone is stealing from you?" cause wtf?

Also, whose voice would be used for the app? I bet the AI voices are stolen, too. Those issues have been talked about a lot last year (the AI scraping and the voice actors' voices being turned to AI and used without their permission) and I'm just tired.

The fear of harassment from antis didn't make me lock my fics but this did. Kinda sad cause a lot of my readers are guests (based on the kudos I get) although I hope something could be done with all this so I can unlock them someday.

The app-makers claimed the voices were used with permission. My guess is that this is either a lie or they were paid for the use in a prior app.

I hear people about the wayback machine and how it's sad when fics are locked because they aren't saved that way, but frankly, I love locking my fics.

It promotes AO3. It tells people to man up and admit they're serious enough to need an account instead of letting them be like "Oh, I only dabble" while looking down their noses at the people who provide their entertainment. (Yes, this is more common than you'd think.) It gets rid of the gawking masses who were sent a link because it was ~cringe~.

Shoutout to the rando in the coffee shop the other day regaling the entire space with how she found a Richard Nixon/Eugene Krabs fic. Haha.

It makes it less of a blow when someone is harassed into locking. And just generally, it emphasizes that using AO3 is a privilege and fandom is a community. This isn't just ~content~ with no context or restrictions.

Minor barriers to entry greatly improve the internet.

What's this? It's a writing-focused challenge, however all mediums are welcome in the collection. The idea is to purposefully create in smaller chunks for your favorite relationships with #fourormore people with the intent of promoting your favorite ships and populating those tags of polyamorous goodness.

This event will run from February 7th to February 21st.

This is a low-stakes, personal challenge. There's no penalty for going over the limit. In fact, if you manage multiple works that go over the limit, you have my admiration.

GUIDELINES

Any medium! Any rating! As long as your work focuses on a relationship with 4 or more people, it's allowed!

All works must be your own and not previously posted. AI generated works will be deleted from the collections.

You may combine these with other events, as long as the other event allows it (such as @polyamships PolyamShippingDay or @febuwhump)

Small fandoms and complicated relationships more than welcome!

MEDIUM SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

Minimum wordcount for fics is 100 words. Maximum is 2000 words.

Minimum for art is a sketch (digitally or traditionally drawn. Figure sticks allowed!). There is no limit to the quality or effort you want to put in your fills.

Minimum for moodboards is a 2x3 grid (6 images individually or edited in one image). Maximum is a 3x 3 grid (9 images individually or edited in one image).

Minimum for podfic is a 100-word fic. Maximum is 2000 words. There is no restriction on length or special effects.

Minimum for fanvids is 30 seconds. Maximum is 1minute and 30seconds.

Other mediums don't have a minimum nor maximum. Do you want to make an in-universe magazine for your ship? A cross stich pattern? A sculpture? Go ahead and do it! I look forward to all the things you can create.

Q: How much do I need to create? A: As much or as little as you want! Even one more work in your ship tag is better than none!

I recently reblogged an article from Rolling Stone about fandom's concerns regarding the use of generative AI and how proliferation of generative AI on AO3 weakens the sense of community in fandom which (at least for fanfic) works under the notion of a gift economy. It's a good read.

Things it made me think about:

AO3 is, on the whole, a good thing for fandom and a lot of ink has already been spilled on this topic, spelling out why AO3 is good for fandom. But, given that AO3 is a gigantic corpus of fiction that is, with small exceptions, nothing but fiction, it is also a perfect target for generative AI training sets. We know that is precisely what happened. *cough* omegaverse. ;)

Ever since AO3 first started --- and I was there on LJ when a series of shitful things happened that made fans need an archive OF OUR OWN --- I have also been a bit critical of AO3. Yes, I support AO3 and am thankful for its existence and yes, I think it is a good thing as a whole for fandom, but as AO3 became more entrenched in fandom I noticed something not so good: I felt less of a sense of community around the act of writing, with other writers, together in a gift economy of words and ideas.

A big part of that has to do with the technology itself. AO3 is designed as an ARCHIVE and a good one at that. But, in making itself into an archive, it very purposefully lacked certain features that popular fannish platforms of that time had. For instance, LiveJournal's (and, later, Dreamwidth's) features for creating interest-specific communities, hosting blog-style discussions, and creating spaces that people inhabited.

I have never felt like AO3 is a place that is inhabited in a lively manner. It always felt more like a library or, these days, more like a bookstore. AO3's feature set has grown a good deal from its earlier years, allowing it to partially support community events. But, overall, AO3 has always felt a bit clunky to me because it needs information&library sciences style features because it *is* an archive.

Don't get me wrong. I really do appreciate AO3 and how easily it lets me find fanfic.

But therein lies the problem. It is far too easy to visit AO3 and be nothing but a reader. It is a massive library full of stories of varying length. Just keep clicking on tags of interest or use the search tools and see what the archive returns to you. More stories. Lots and lots of stories. You can read forever.

This is very different from what happened in the fanfic communities on LiveJournal where prompts and challenges were hosted and people signed up as writers while also being readers. Stories tended to be shorter (but not always) and participation in the GIFT economy was the name of the game: Post prompts. Write stories other people's prompts. Read stories for the prompts you posted plus other prompts of interest. It was all about gifting and sharing and having fun. There was a lot of discussion, a lot of meta, quite a few in jokes, and it had the feeling of an after hours writing workshop. It was the opposite of "sssshhhhhh! This is a library."

To me, AO3 always felt like a place that you archived your stories *after* you were done writing them, discussing them, squeeing, finding all of the typos. Whoops. More typos. and DONE. Off to the Archive it goes. AO3 wasn't about gathering together with 30 or 50 or a 300 people in a specific fandom event on a specific LiveJournal community. Instead, at least for me, AO3 it was more about writing longer fanfic, often but not necessarily multi-chapter fanfic structured more like a traditional novel. Meanwhile, all of those more experimental fanfics, freeform fics, drabbles (100 word stories), and "lots of short fic later stitched together in one big timeline" that worked well on LiveJournal felt a bit awkward on AO3. (This is why I haven't bothered to archive a lot of my fic on AO3).

Just before generative AI became an issue in fandom, for a number of years I noticed people on tumblr complaining that they weren't getting an interaction on their AO3 fanfic. They would see the hit counter go up plus a bunch of kudos but no comments. No interaction. No sense of their fanfic strike up discussions.

I also saw people complaining about readers who were impatient and just wanted more fanfic. At least one person said that they felt like readers saw them as a vending machine that produced fanfic for free.

That is the kind of thing that happens when fanfic is filed away into this gigantic wonderful archive that is a reader's paradise.

The author becomes invisible.

The author is just there to supply more words, more stories, more chapters.

That isn't why I joined fandom and, to be honest, most of my fanfic is not on AO3 (for a variety of reasons). I never found it a fulfilling platform *for me* as a writer. YMMV. But it doesn't provide writer-me what I want in fandom --- a sense of community and shared headcanon and events and interaction in a space that is inhabited and full of activity. A place where fanfic can be off-the-cuff and quick and short and written in response to other community members' ideas and thoughts. A place where writing is a little more ephemeral but a hell of a lot of fun.

But, as a reader, I love AO3. Where else can I find so many 350,000 word novels of the exact pairings/themes I'm interested in?

Much like in the Rolling Stone article, I wonder how fandom will evolve in response to generative AI.

Mostly, I wonder how to create a sense of community once again.

so like, what's actually going on with you people? the neteyam x reader hashtag used to be a place full of creativity and heartfelt writing—a space where fans could explore soft, beautiful moments with one of the most beloved characters in pandora’s world. before it was overtaken by a wave of inappropriate, distasteful content, it was the go-to for intricate one-shots, vivid imagery, and elegant prose that painted neteyam in the light he deserves. we had stunning stories, cute thumbnails, and a community that cared about the integrity of the character.

but now? well, it’s js turned into something unsettling, and honestly, we need to talk about it. let’s get one thing straight: neteyam is fifteen years old. he’s a kid. a literal child. writing explicit content about him, or “aging him up” to justify it, is not only wrong—it’s flat-out disturbing. the excuse of “aging him up” doesn’t hold water and quite frankly, it's just a sick loophole to avoid addressing what’s really going on. there’s nothing creative, tasteful, or beautiful about that kind of content. if you’re writing or requesting sm*t about a minor, you are stepping into extremely problematic territory. and yes, we see you, and yes, it’s gross.

we need to revamp this hashtag. bring it back to what it used to be when predominantly teens like myself wrote fics for it. neteyam deserves more than to be reduced to uncomfortable, inappropriate stories. he’s a complex, deeply compassionate character, and that’s where the focus should be. his bond with the reader can be tender, full of laughter, exploration, and affection, without crossing the line into something that never should’ve been there in the first place.

i’m going to start writing fics for neteyam, and you can rest assured they’ll be strictly fluff—nothing suggestive, no innuendo, nada. this is going to be about restoring a corner of the fandom that’s been tarnished. let’s bring back oneshots that are cute, clever, and creative. no more ai-generated eyesores as thumbnails (they're ugly asl i'm sorry), no more crossing lines that should never have been crossed. if you wany you can send me your requests—fluff only. let’s return to the neteyam x reader content that reflects the beauty and depth of the character, not this bizarre and deeply uncomfortable trend that’s somehow taken over.

also all the p0rn bots are insane like?? maybe when this hashtag stops being associated with immoral smvt then the bot's will stop flashing you as you scroll :3

I hope you have recovered fully or are recovering well.

I only wanted to say this because I am an over thinker and someone needs to tell me to shut up. I don't have any Jikook fans in real life so these are the places I vent.

I think I am either the majority or.the minority depending on which space we are in that thinks and feels that Jikook are distant and have been for a while. I don't think like only because of the car scene. Even when they are taking photos, they aren't doing it like they used to do before. Before if one of them was taking a photo of the two, generally they would be attached at the hips and in each other's face. I didnt notice them doing that in the first two episodes but I also just saw a small clip from Sapporo and they are also taking a pic but they are but distant from each other. I know it might be some miniscule to you but these are few of the instances where I felt that their relationship was beyond friendship.

I know I am over thinking it but I don't know, I don't feel as good about it I suppose. What happened to the Jikook that would literally smooshed their faces together for a photo? What happened to Jikook that were always seen hanging out prior to the hiatus. I heard about them hanging out all the time.

Yes they were busy and I get that. Jimin specially seems to have been super duper busy but he seems to have built a deeper relationship with the Hyung like but kep.a distance from the Maknae line so I am a bit confused I suppose. Out of all the BTS members, I always assumed Jikook were it and nothing would come in between so I am surprised to see work coming in between them?

I still feel like shiiitttt lol but I had to start work today anyway. Thanks for checking in though 💜

Listen, I'm not here to tell you what to think or tell you what your opinion should be. Think whatever you want. I'm sorry to say, but I'm not ever going to be the one to talk you into shipping Jikook. You think they aren't together, that's totally good by me! More facts! As for hanging out prior to the hiatus (where I guess now it's assumed they never saw each other not even once, which is opinion and assumption, not fact), I have a post already done about all the times Jikook were spotted hanging out outside of work (because BTS time is work).

Hint: it's less often than you think

Double hint: they were still glued at the hip, we just know they were because they say and act like they were, not because we got to see or hear about it

Triple hint: it's probably exactly the same now except we know that currently, at this moment, they choose to continue to be glued at the hip for the next 18 months at minimum

I think whatever you decide about how you feel about Jikook, you should consider taking an emotional step back from them, just a smidge. Relieved to be home after a long long day, Angel slams the front door shut behind them. Dropping their bag on the ground and tossing their jacket in the vague direction of the peg, they move upstairs. David won't be home till late, so they have time to explode without worrying about lashing out at him. 

Agitation sat beneath their skin like ants; scratching and biting at their bones. They wanted to let the anger out, but they were too frustrated to focus on venting it properly. They didn't want a distraction, they didn't want to be pissed off out of their mind, they didn't want to have a family whose mission it apparently was to  just cut them down. They pick up the nearest pillow and scream into it, missing the sound of a key in the front door.

David hears the scream as he shuts the door behind him and immediately sprints up the stairs, half shifted. “Angel?” He calls, hating how his voice shakes. He’s experienced every worst case scenario at work and never wavered, but in his home, with his Angel? The fear swallows him more than he’d like to admit.

“Fucking hell!” Angel startles and hastily wipes the angry tears away as best they can. “Davey, you're home early.”

“Are you okay? I heard a scream.” He scans the room quickly, searching for any kind of threat.

“That was me.” They smile unconvincingly, putting the pillow back on the bed with shaking hands. “I'm fine, but I'm sure you could make me scream later ayyy.” They half heartedly shoot a finger gun at him.

Assured there's no physical threat, letting go of the shift, he gradually shrinks back down. Well, as much as David can shrink to anything. He moves closer, out of the doorway towards his mate, ignoring their weak attempt at an innuendo. “What's wrong, Angel?”

“It's nothing.” The words spill out reflexively, but they stop themselves, deflating a little. “It's not nothing I-” they swallow thickly. “...It's a lot.” 

“What can I do?” He asks lowly.

Forcing themselves to breathe they answer. “Let me tell you about it?”

“Of course.” He nods, taking off his jacket and draping it over the desk chair.

“Stop being hot while I'm trying to be angry.” They grumble with a sigh. “I'm sorry-”

“Don't.” He stops them, sitting down on the bed. “Let it out Angel, you're allowed to be angry and have had a shitty day. And you’re allowed to joke if that helps you ease into it more. Take your time.”

Blinking back more tears they nod, feeling the bittersweet sting of comfort on long open wounds. “Okay. I… yes.”

“Tell me what happened.” He prompts, inviting their hurt into the space.

“Saw my parents today.” They don't look at him, starting to pace around the room. “And I thought we were doing better. But I guess not. It seemed fine at first but then the little comments dropped here and there began. About ‘if I’d finally made something of myself’ and done any of their ‘suggestions’.” 

They see David tense out of the corner of their eyes, ignoring it too focused on trying to let it all out. “And I used to be able to handle it just fine. But I wasn't able to today. And all I got for what little restraint I had, was a fucking chat about how moody I'd become.”

Angel’s pacing has sped up now. Their anger and frustration felt like fire flickering at their heels as they gain momentum. “And then to top it all off they said they got me a gift and-” they falter for the first time. “It was slimming pyjamas. To make me look better, for you. While I sleep.” Their voice cracks, and the tears finally spill out. 

That doesn’t stop the pacing though, if anything it becomes more erratic, fists clenching. “Because that's what I needed to worry about on top of everything. How I look when I'm asleep. In front of my fucking husband out of everything who's the best part of my life and now it won't leave my head.” The last sentence brings them to a halt as the tears overwhelm them.

They have never felt more exposed in that moment. Standing before David, their chest had opened and they were offering him the small figure of their childhood. A little kid begging for a parent’s love, crying out for a hurt yet to fully heal. Showing him some of the shaking mess within, once again.

And just like when rain made them flinch beneath the covers. Or when the dark looked too much like the night of the Inversion when they waited for his return. Or when, in trying to hold everything together weeks later, after work, they were still able to fall into his arms and cry. David is there, right beside them. Loving them with everything he has.

He doesn’t say anything, he holds out a hand to them. Offering his comfort without hesitation or judgement. His gaze is just as vulnerable and loving as if a younger version of him was also reaching out to theirs. They look at his hand for a moment before slipping their hand in his and allowing him to pull them onto his lap, melting into his hold. They sob into his shoulder for a long while, his hand gently stroking their back while they do.

“You're worth so much more than they ever bothered to show you. You are just incredible and so capable, in work, in life, in everything I see you do. And you know I don’t just say things like that for nothing.” He murmurs once their breathing evens out. “You are the most beautiful person I've ever laid eyes on, Angel. My mate, my Angel. I never want you to feel you have to hide yourself from me. And I am so angry they think they can treat you like that.” A growl slips into his voice that he tries to swallow, wanting to focus on his love.

“I’m so tired of trying to prove myself to them.” They say in a small voice and David feels his heart crack at how vulnerable they sound. They’re such a vibrant and bright presence even when saying nothing at all, and it hurts him to see them so subdued.

“You deserve better.” He presses a kiss to their forehead, carefully wiping tears from their cheek with his thumb. He keeps his anger measured, there will be time for his rage at the injustice, when his spouse is feeling better. “How can I improve this evening for you?”

Angel considers for a moment, leaning into his touch as if they were starved of it. “Can we cook together? And watch something terrible?” 

He kisses them gently. “Anything you want my love.”

“Even the Lego Batman film?” A smile creeps onto their face as a more mischievous tone returns to their slightly croaky voice.

“Almost anything you want.” He replies immediately, unable to hide his own smile despite his grumbles.

“Boo after the day I've had? You loved that movie.” They huff against his neck, teasing.

“Yeah, until you and Tank decided that I sound like that emo and quoted it every pack meeting for a month.”

“You secretly loved it.”

“Milo still calls me Mr Wayne in that stupid British accent, Angel.”

They burst out laughing, wrapping their arms tight around his shoulders as a small chuckle escapes him. 

After a moment, the laughter dies down and they give him a small squeeze. “Thank you Davey. I love you.” They whisper quietly against him.

“I love you too Angel. Come on. I'm going to put my shoes and jacket away, but meet me in the kitchen?” 

They nod, leaning forwards to capture his lips in theirs before standing up, allowing him to leave the room.

As they go to follow him, they pause by a picture of David and his dad in front of a blooming and colourful garden. “I wish I could have met you Gabe.” They murmur softly.

“Angel?” David calls from downstairs.

“Coming Batman!” Angel pads downstairs, passing more pictures along the walls. Them, Asher, and Tank after being ‘rescued’ from that lake, the smash tournament, the first mates outing, their wedding. 

Family is what you make. And by god if they hadn't found a good one, they think proudly as they emerge into the kitchen, hugging David from behind. A damn good one.

This will be more of a personal post sprinkled with some thoughts on AYS?!, so for those interested strictly in shipping content, you can skip this.

I couldn't help myself yesterday to wait until my work schedule was done. So I watched the first two episodes during lunch break and work, while using the keyboard from time to time to not appear offline.

And then a second time in the evening, without as many interruptions. I even texted my sister to remind her that the episodes have been released (she has JK's songs on her playlists and that's where it stops). My tone was very casual, as if I just remembered it was already up. As if I haven't actually been thinking and obsessing about that show for a year now. But that's because I can't let this online, fandom "life" seep through my other, "real" one. I've always struggled with my feelings of shame over being part of such spaces. Which is why I avoided them completely. Up until four years ago. I'm still dealing with it. I don't want to tell people that I have an interest in a kpop ship and that it's been ongoing for a few years now. It feels to foreign to the image I allow others to have of me and this kpop stuff is childish to say the least. I've fallen victim to the talking points I've argued against intellectually. But life doesn't work that way. My rational brain doesn't get along with my feelings.

So I keep my thoughts about shipping, fandoms, jikook here. And I share them with friends and people that have a connection to it. It's why I have a blog. So I can post a photo of jikook holding hands at the beginning of their journey and at least 10 people will understand it cause they like the same thing. I'm not a loser on my own here so the thought feels comforting.

I didn't have specific expectations about AYS?!, but I felt happy watching it. It was different, but a good different. Having the opporrtunity to witness them from morning till evening without any interruptions painted an interesting picture and it's the first time to see some parts of their dynamic.

They bicker, they flirt, they get lovingly annoyed, they get bored, they get silent, they get touchy. It feels more real than any 2-min clip from a Memories DVD could possibly show us. I don't want picture perfect jikook because it doesn't exist. Being in stan spaces, all I see everyday is worship, a mentality that is then transfered to the people surrounding the idol. But I don't want JK to worship Jimin 24/7 or vice versa. That's not a real relationship of any kind. I want to see them treat each other like they're just people. Which is what they did. Too bad that some have interpreted that as negative when in fact all we got were clear signs of actual closeness. And nothing beats it like Jungkook's attitude towards Jimin being sick. Shippers/supporters have clips and endless arguments on hand to explain the closeness between jikook, but honestly? That first evening in the cabin when JM was in the bathroom and subsequently the next morning should be the sole argument from now on. It can't be more obvious if it hit us in the head.

It's not about needing confirmation at every step of them being a couple. At least I don't need that. In the long run, it wouldn't even matter if they're not. What's noticeable is that they appear to be one and that doesn't come out of thin air.

Is my mood volatile these days? Yes. Actually these past few months. Do I need this show as one of those feel good series? Definitely, because there's nothing else out there to catch my attention in terms of tv content. I don't want to pick apart and poke holes and question every single line to make myself feel miserable. Everything else is too bad and I am too lame so I rely on this show for a short, temporary thing that improves my mood. I don't care about other things, doubts or worries. I really really just want to enjoy jikook doing whatever they want. I don't have high standards.

Do you think deepfakes count as fictional, reality or a whole other thing.

I ask this because it's genuinely the biggest news in the kpop space currently. Deepfakes of idols have always existed, I've known about them since 2016 when i first became a fan and tbh, I didn't think much about them. Also, I'm sure people have been editing celebrities and people they know into porn for as long as they've had the ability to. It's just much more accessible and easy to do now.

However, the issue has blown up both internationally and in Korea after a middle school student committed suicide due to being deep faked.

The discussion is now if this counts as sexual harassment and abuse, or is it rpf? It's been a kpop staple for years and people are drawing parallels between it and fanfic. to me deep fakes are worse because they're meant to look exactly like the idols. It's difficult to distinguish reality while fanfiction is just that. Fanfic. No one is reading it and thinking it's really real and the idols actually do the freak nasty after work or smth.

What are your thoughts? I ask bc you and your followers generally are more nuanced and I'm interested in your thoughts on the matter.

I've been asked this exact question a number of times. The closest thing is, of course, the photomanips that were hugely popular in some parts of fandom in like 2005.

The difference between those (or the same thing done with better technology now) is that they're openly branded as fake. RPF is the same way. It's posted to fannish archives or on fanworks-oriented social media accounts. It often has watermarks on it indicating it's a fanwork, and that's assuming it isn't... like... a photomanip of somebody as a centaur or something. Fanfic, even fanfic by tinhats, is labeled as fic, not as tabloid news.

Deepfakes intended for harassment are presented as real. A shitty person could take certain types of fan art and repurpose them for this, sure, but that's not the fault of the fan artist. Disguising the fact that this is fan-made (or, well, hater-made) art is the whole point.

How realistic the art is isn't the main issue: it's whether they're pretending it's real.

Now, is drawing cartoony offensive art of your middle school classmate harassment? It could be. Even if it's obviously art and not a photo, it could certainly be used intentionally to bully. A lot of things can be part of a bullying campaign. It's obvious how fake photos could easily be more traumatic and cause more trouble more quickly, but there isn't really a huge difference between known-to-be-fake "photos" and cartoony rude art, nor is there a huge difference between fake photo "evidence" and lying gossip "evidence".

The intent and the social context are what matter here. The photorealism just makes it easier to achieve a specific bullying aim.

But, yes, given the current technological situation, if you are a person who uses AI to make celebrity porn or something, the ethical thing to do is to watermark the hell out of it and/or make it less photorealistic and/or make sure it's posted to some porn site with attribution where people can easily go to debunk it should it escape containment and be passed around as The Real Thing. You can't control what assholes do, but you can at least put some roadblocks in place so they can't misuse your stuff as easily.
