I don’t think something will ever surpass my second bloodborne play through, something about it feels so “homey” in a way. Things such as just walking around yharnam. Walking through the bridge trying to beat Gascoigne. Old yharnam in the sunset of the early game. And all the wonder of finding the secrets as you progress around the game. Truly a wonderful experience.

TRUTH! What scared you most in Yharnam?
No matter what path I took, no matter how hard I tried, I'd have to do it all again.
I couldn't die, all the facades of death I met were just suffering. Anyone I met would die or go mad or both or I would have to put them down like a rabid animal. I could kill and kill and kill, wipe everything off of the city and leave just corpses. And I'd always wake up in the clinic at sunset, and nothing I did would matter.
That's what scared me.

final wet thoughts:
all the trick weapons are awesome. i know i didn't find every single one, but none of the ones i found were boring. some of the form change attacks seemed way too slow to be useful against most enemies, though, considering basically everything queues up a fast attack when they're in hitstun and there's no poise mechanic for the player
this is a really petty complaint but the game's color palette felt too limited. with a few exceptions, the majority of the game's areas visually kind of blend together, especially when the sun sets and the warmish sunset tint is gone. this also resulted in me getting lost a bunch, like missing the way into the forbidden woods because it was down another identical unremarkable nook in central yharnam. like i'm okay with that for optional areas but not for the critical path
chalice dungeons seem cool but I didn't run a whole lot of them so it's possible there's not enough variety as you get deeper. i'll do more when i come back for ng+

0 for Eileen
I know you want to answer all of these for her lol
Oh thank you so much, you are so right!! Let’s do it!!!
Tumblr media
(1) Oh Lord, she is so on Facebook to casually chat with old friends. It’s like all she uses, and she joins groups for gardening, herbal remedies, DIY projects, and a few of her old school Goth music fan groups for old times sake.
She’ll occasionally share some picture of a plant or dog and just write “Cool plant.” or “Saw a dog.” but nothing else lol. She offers really good advice to kids in all the groups, but it’s always really emotionless and factual.
She only shows some slight emotion in her posts when she shares a picture of Bloody Crow as he is growing up. It’ll be like, “He just learned to do a backflip. Proud :)” and then that’s it. She’s an old bird, but she handles social media fairly well. Everyone loves her stoic Goth mom energy.
(2) God, I honestly can’t think of any animals. There’s this one…it’s like a black bird or something…but damn…I dunno my memory evades me. I’ll have to think on this one ;)
(3) BEST. DESIGN. EVER. Plague doctor mask with a crow cape? FromSoft was so based for this. I adore how ambiguous and genderless it is, but also with that slight bit of bling in the bell necklace!! It’s so cute. I also noticed that Eileen carries basically a surgeon’s kit on her belt, which is such a cool detail. Her aesthetic is basically my whole personality. Oh, and she totally fills the beak mask with lavender and rosemary by the way. It’s canon to me.
(4) Eileen is actually a surprisingly good sleeper. She used to not be, but over the years, she started just…falling asleep even while standing up. I think she goes up to the rooftops to watch sunsets over the city and then just crashes out. On hunting nights, she is fine staying up all night and sleeping when the sun rises, but she prefers to rest when the sun goes down and get up at the crack of dawn. A certain apprentice of hers hates that because he always stays up all night.
The only thing that’s funny about Eileen is that she’s way more energetic with four hours of sleep instead of seven or eight. Nobody really knows why. She’s just built different.
Her eating habits are hilariously endearing. She snacks on random things all day, but when dinner comes, she wants to eat something substantial, so she usually makes a traditional curry dish from her homeland with a lot of spice.
It’s her absolute favorite and she puts way too much spice in it. Most people would choke on it, but Eileen just loves the heat. She’s actually really good at making it too, even if her preferences are extreme. I just think the weather in Yharnam is generally pretty frigid and miserable, so a hot, spicy pot of curry is Eileen’s go-to dinner. She’ll also insist on making it for anyone that’s sick.
On an actual more physical level, Eileen is very expressive via body language rather than verbal communication. She’s really in sync with nature and animals, so she’ll quietly observe and feed little critters where she can. Birds are obviously her favorite, but she’ll also help out little stray pups and cats if she has the chance. They all trust her because even though she looks terrifying, her quiet aura and gentle movement is pretty calming.
She’s almost like a ghost drifting through her environment, but not one that’s malevolent. She used to be a doctor, so her appreciation for life and the respect for death is all there. She’ll nurse a broken bird back to life, but then carry out the necessary mercy killing for a blood-drunk hunter and honor them in death. Her silent expressions of kindness are seen in both the grim duty she carries, and the peaceful world she knows beyond it.
Cutting here, because it gets long as hell—
(5) Eileen used to be the ultimate loner that avoided any sort of attachment. It was something she believed was necessary after losing her family at a young age, and so even when she was a doctor, she would avoid letting herself open up to her patients. She wanted to be prepared to lose them, to lose anyone. Even her old Crow mentor, who had been like a brother to her as a child, was someone she directly told to be aware of her preparedness for his death. They actually agreed that neither one would ever compromise a mission to save each other. If death was coming for them, then that was it.
Then a certain little crow came into Eileen’s life, and for the first time since she was a child, she started actually…feeling again. Her emotions became a little more obvious, and she started noticing little pangs in her heart that suggested that dreaded thing we call attachment. She ignored and tried to suppress it for a long time, but it wouldn’t go away.
Naturally this caused a lot of issues in her Crow world that I won’t go into now, but later on, in her old age—Eileen finally let it go. She started to befriend some of the hunters in Yharnam like Gascoigne and Henryk, and was a little more chill about being seen as a normal person and not just an untouchable assassin.
She was also more open to the possibility of finding someone to settle down with in her retirement, but after being basically alone her entire life, there is no way she would know how to approach such a thing. Granted, she wouldn’t expect much, and probably would just be happy with someone that was okay with a simple, mellow kind of life.
This older version of Eileen was actually well-liked by her comrades in Yharnam, and her watchful, tranquil presence was somewhat of a relief for certain hunters. Sure enough, some were still scared of her, but most knew she wasn’t a bad person and actually appreciated what she would do for them if they ended up blood-drunk. Eileen was just Eileen to them, and there wasn’t much to dislike.
(6) Eileen’s greatest fear was growing attached to someone and losing them. It just was. I imagine she was really young when her family was lost, so there was this cynical side to her that believed that a lot of pain would have been abolished if she had been “wiser” about how life worked. Every regret in her life stemmed from letting herself care and then feeling the anguish when whoever she cared for was taken away. It was her weakest point, and that’s why she tried to rid herself of emotional connections.
That also means that she didn’t deal with anger very well, because it was another thing she tried to suppress, so if she ever exploded, it was shocking. She wasn’t known for having a bad temper at all, but if she buried something for too long, she would have to go into the woods and scream it all out to feel better.
Her talents outside of her obvious skill as a Crow are actually pretty cute. She can sew really well, she juggles, she knows how to work with herbs/oils and make medicinal flasks, she’s actually really good at braiding her hair/tying knots, she can play certain types of flute, she’s good at carving and make little knives like it’s nothing, her outdoor survival skillset is carefully honed, and she makes really good tea.
She just has gathered little skills and talents like this that give her hands something to do, and her mind something to focus on. She finds it incredibly stimulating, and it’s part of the reason why she was such a good doctor before becoming a Crow.
I know I already talked about regrets too, but I want to say—Eileen’s biggest life regret is over what happened to Bloody Crow, because it’s not only about growing attached and losing someone, but it’s also about not being able to save someone from their own darkness in time. That is her greatest tragedy, her greatest regret, and something she never thought she’d have to go through, so I imagine the end of her life would have been trying to find healing from that.
(7) Eileen/Djura is literally one of my top Bloodborne ships these days and it only got amplified recently by @lizteaart who showed me the even deeper potential. It’s also kind of the only ship I consider for Eileen too. I just think it makes so much sense. Djura and Eileen are around the same age, they both are lovable weirdoes with kind hearts, and they are just badass together. Total crackship, but to me…Eileen and Djura chilling on Yharnam rooftops and chatting is so canon. I love them <3
(8) Well, I think Eileen’s connection to Bloody Crow might actually be canon, so that’s the obvious one, but besides that, I imagine she knew Djura like I mentioned. Also, I think she was friends with the Gascoigne family, and would hang out with them on hunting nights, sometimes bringing some gifts for Viola and the girls. She truly was the old crow mother to that family.
I don’t think she was super close to any of the Church hunters, but knew Ludwig briefly because of formerly crossed paths. Gehrman was someone Eileen worked with both when she dreamed and a bit before when the workshop was just being established. However, they were more like acquaintances than anything.
Eileen loved the Doll and brought her little flowers and herbs when she could. She just really appreciated the kind caretaker that was always such a therapeutic sight.
Valtr and Logarius were two faction leaders that Eileen considered enemies and not people she would ever associate with. Both were too unhinged and violent, throwing aside all true codes of honor in Eileen’s eyes. She definitely avoided them, and condemned their work if they crossed paths.
I think the Choir and Mensis people were kind of like, “those weird scholars” that Eileen just mostly ignored and stayed away from. She knew about Archibald and his gang of Yahar’gul criminals, but tried to stay out of their business to avoid bloodshed. No one really knew what they were up to around that time, and Eileen decided against finding out because she didn’t want to compromise her work or those involved with her.
Aside from all this, she obviously had her Crow mentor and people she had known as a child, but they were all lost as time went on. Her strongest relationship was with little Crow, and Djura later on.
(9) Eileen’s past is pretty elaborate in my head, but here’s the summary of it.
She was from a region near that obviously Tibet-coded area where the first HOH came from that you could basically consider Nepal. Her family fled the country because of an ancient “beast curse” that had spread from lost Loran. The curse, which is obviously the same plague in Yharnam, was really prevalent in these “hinterland” regions.
So, Eileen grew up in a place that I think was essentially in England, and spent a large part of her childhood there. However, she adored visiting her grandparents in the Hinterlands and spent winters there in order to see them.
Her parents and siblings didn’t approve because they were sure she would get sick from the plague eventually. Eileen was stubborn though, and continued to spend time in her homeland. This is also where she met her later Crow mentor, who was actually the nephew of the first HOH.
Then one day, when she was about 14, Eileen returned to her Totally Not English home, and found out her family was sick. Both parents, and her siblings. The beast plague had spread to the northern regions through traveling contraction.
Eileen’s family, in a state of extreme paranoia, believed that she was the sick one and that it was her fault for visiting her homeland so much. They cast her out and abandoned her, ensuring that she no longer had a home or family, but in an ironic twist, they all turned into beasts a week later.
Eileen tried to save them and was attacked, leaving her no choice but to kill them all. The little sparring and rifle training she had received from her soon-to-be mentor paid off, and she put her family members out of their misery. Her first mercy kills.
Needless to say, this was traumatizing, and the guilt sent her into a horrible spiral of depression and borderline madness. The only thing that saved her was becoming a doctor in her homeland, trying to save people from the spreading beast plague.
She did this for years, and then was eventually approached by her Crow mentor, who offered to train her and let her take up the mantle of a Crow. She did, and they moved to the Yharnam region to be closer to the great healing city in its early days, where scholars and hunters alike were striving to “save humanity.”
And that, in my headcanon, is how Eileen became a Crow.
(10) The content I always want to see more of is Eileen and Bloody Crow interactions, haha. I want all the interpretations of their relationship, and I don’t care how different they are from mine. GIMME.
I’d also love to see more of Eileen and Djura because that’s an underrated pairing, honestly <3
Ok whew! This was a lot, but thank you so much for letting me rant about Eileen!! I needed it, omg. I think so much about her and her story. It just means so much to me, this damn birb mom 🥺

Full headcanon: More Yharnam in Austria headcanons:
Yharnam is not just known for its medical advances. Aside from their famous trick weapons, the city produced some truly impressive marvels of technology. Among the various weapons made by the old workshop, various inventors have crafted rudimentary timed explosives, gas operated turrets, weight-based locking mechanisms on doors, and so on and so forth. There were even rumors one Yharnamite thrill seeker had developed blueprints for the first gasoline powered vehicle in the form of a primitive motorcycle.
Yharnam's bigger brother Germany had a nasty habit of sending spies to steal the designs for their inventions or convince their inventors to work for their masters. Many of these spies had a problem with disappearing after sunset, however, so Germany eventually stopped trying. It is ultimately a good thing Yharnam succumbed to the Scourge when it did. Tensions in Europe had been boiling at a feverish pitch, and the less of Yharnam's innovations these soon to be warring nations had, the better...

An in-depth look at your muse.
tagged by: @schattenmagier tagging: I am late, so whoever sees this, do this I am feeling Laurence the most, so I am going to fill this out for Laurence. —    basics.
▸     is your muse tall/short/average? Laurence is 5′7′’ or 170 cm. He is on the smaller side for a cis male.
▸     are they okay with their height? He dislikes his height. He thinks he’s too small. Especially because people in Yharnam are usually HUGE and he feels utterly tiny compared to them. He wished he could be taller.
▸     what’s their hair like? It’s shoulder lenght and from an auburn colour which is more red than brown. He hates being called a redhead though, don’t call him that. His hair is curly and he usually wears it loose, with the tips just falling on his shoulders.
▸     do they spend a lot of time on their hair/grooming? He will wash his hair regularly and brush it after he slept, but that’s it. He also will make sure that it gets cut when it is even slightly too long, the moment he can feel his hair on his back, he wants a cut. Micolash normally cuts Laurence’ hair for him.
▸     does your muse care about their appearance/what others think? He has too, because he is the Vicar of the Healing Church and has a social presence and he can’t come to a party looking like a Hobo. He makes sure that he looks dashing before leaving the house. He even will make sure to look good when he goes out in normal church robes and not in the vicar robes. He actually doesn’t care too much what others think, but he wants their money for the church, so he tries to appear as presentable as possible to them.
—    preferences.
▸   indoors or outdoors? Laurence spends a lot of time indoors, working mostly, but he also likes the outdoors. He will go for a walk often or swim in summer. He also will often be seen next to Ludwig and his horse Midnight.
▸    rain or sunshine? Sunshine. Laurence hates getting wet.
▸    forest or beach? Both. Laurence was next to a lake shore for a large part of his youth and often likes to go to the Yharnam harbour during his walks. But there was also a forest around his boarding school and even in his adult life he will be found taking walks in the forest near the Cathedral Ward, the forest that leads to Hemwick. Though, in his later years he wasn’t too fond of it anymore. He claimed there were shadows in the woods...
▸    precious metals or gems? Meteorites. But if he has to choose, gems. Blood gems in particular. Anything is better when it is made out of blood of an outer god.
▸   flowers or perfumes? Flowers. Especially lumenflowers.
▸   personality or appearance? For a relationship? If it is a one-night-stand, then appearance mostly. For a serious relationship, personality comes into factor.
▸   being alone or being in a crowd? Being in a crowd. Laurence can be a social butterfly and wants to talk to people. Though, if he dislikes the people around him, he wants to be alone.
▸    order or anarchy? His anarchy is the order.
▸    painful truths or white lies? White lies. You can’t control a city when you tell them the truth. Though, he genuinely thought the old blood was totally safe. He was in deep denial about it and shut off every critic for far too long.
▸   science or magic? Magic is science! Look, there’s the augur in his pocket. Totally not magic. It’s arcane. Science. They proved it. Oh and eldritch gods are real by the way. And healing blood, not magic, science. His church is science! There is a research hall!
▸   peace or conflict? Peace, but will totally go into a conflict if he has to. Happened with Cainhurst.
▸    night or day? Night. You can’t look at the stars when it’s bright.
▸   dusk or dawn? Dusk. It’s nice to see the sunset and wait for the stars and moon to appear.
▸    warmth or cold? He prefers the warmth. Laurence downright HATES the cold. He will even keep his church coat on when it is very hot.
▸   many acquaintances or a few close friends? Both kinda. It can be very useful to have many acquaintances, but he also cherishes his few close friends.
▸    reading or playing a game? Reading. Laurence reads a LOT of books.
—    questionnaire.
▸     what are some of your muse’s bad habits? Not listening to people even if they are right. Stubborn. Addict for blood, alcohol and sedatives. Is annoying on purpose. Has anxiety but overacts and ignores it instead of dealing with it. God complex. Hates being proved wrong. Terrible with his feelings. Did I already mention that he’s annoying on purpose?
▸     has your muse lost anyone close to them? how has it affected them? Yes, a lot of people actually. First were his parents who died when he was 11 years old from a sickness. Laurence, sickly himself, got taken in by Byrgenwerth and was an orphan. Then, in his adult years, he willingly broke contact with Master Willem and the friends who stayed in Byrgenwerth. Maria commited suicide, Gehrman lost himself in grief and then fucked off to the Hunter’s Dream and Micolash fucked off with the School of Mensis and started a war with the choir. All this stressed Laurence a lot, but he barely allowed himself to grief. He fell into deep depression shortly before the scourge broke out in him.
▸     what are some fond memories your muse has? All the memories of Byrgenwerth. Before the blood, when everything was still peaceful and he didn’t have to care. Sometimes he wishes he had never picked up that accursed blood, but then he can’t believe that he once thought that. The blood is still helping people, right?! It did so much good, it’s the future. It’s not... it’s not the reason that everything goes to shit... it is.. not...
▸     is it easy for your muse to kill? Well, while Laurence can easily tell someone to kill, he actually never did it on his own. Never got his hands dirty... he would struggle a lot to kill, even a beast. It is something else to simply say “Kill” and to do it yourself. Beast Laurence has no qualms about killing whatsoever.
▸     what’s it like when your muse breaks down? When he breaks down, it will be because his denial caught up to him and then it gets dangerous because he still is the head of one of the most influential institutions in Yharnam and his word can change a lot. He can easily forbid people to do certain things and get everything like he wants. Though, if he breaks down, he tends to get stupider and therefore will make mistakes. It’s a good opportunity to overrule him.
▸    is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life? Yes, but it takes time of course. He trusted Gehrman and Ludwig with his life and... no one else. Not even his other close friends, there was too much of a mistrust to trust them to not betray him. If another muse would want his full trust, they would have to work hard for it.
▸     what’s your muse like when they’re in love? Dreamy. Very dreamy. Will yearn a lot. Will try to deny it. He really does that too often, huh? He will probably search out the person of his desires and try to spend time with them, still confused about why he even does that. Will make mistakes that he otherwise never would have made. Can go non-verbal when his crush speaks to him. Will sit in his office and wonder what is happening to him.

(If you're still taking nightmares...well, hear me out, Morgott in yharnam, what will he do...)
It's a strangely familiar scene, standing on a bridge awaiting the return of a pest seeking passage, but it was as if everything had been shifted sideways and drenched in accursed blood.
Instead of the golden light of the Erdtree shining down on the proud ramparts of Stormveil, an unshifting crimson sunset silhouetted dark towers that rose from the earth like jagged teeth. Behind him was somewhere once holy, once healing, that now stank just as badly of blood and twisted flesh as the sewers of his youth, as the rest of this dreadful place.
What was he here to protect? He can't remember anymore, there's nothing worth it here. How could there be when he knows in his bones this whole city flows with blood as cursed as his.
He awoke from the dream, a quickened heartbeat within his chest. The shrill cry still rang in his ear as though it were a reality.
... It wasn't until he heard that very same, inhuman cry that he knew something was well and truly wrong in the waking world...

*generic news program intro music* Good evening! Tonight at 9 we are bringing you Bloodborne News, here on Channel TMBLR!
Free from the tyranny of Machine Gun Mike, I have been left free to explore Old Yharnam to my leisure. After getting a bit lost here and there, Alfred and I promptly trounced the Blood-Starved Beast! It was on the smaller side, as far as bosses go, but I had to keep a close eye on the poison meter, and even had a close call after a grab attack. I probably would’ve had to try a second time, if I didn’t have a summon acting as a meatshield.
After that, Gehrman appeared out of nowhere, telling me to head to the Oedon Chapel, before vanishing again. Y’know, this guy said he’d be my mentor or whatever but his tendency to disappear for long stretches of time ain’t exactly reliable. Where does he even go?
So I went to the Chapel and found a previously closed door opened, and went exploring - found the Healing Church Workshop, just as Gehrman said, and worked my way up the tower to find...a locked door.
Feeling a bit peeved, I decided to go and do my own thing for a bit. First, I went to check out that one weird door in the Cathedral Ward. Still not sure what’s happening there, except that maybe there’s more to the lightshow there than there was previously? The door still won’t open, so I left. Then climbing back up to the Grand Cathedral, I noticed the glowy skull, went to investigate, and had a funky vision.
And now, uh, it’s nighttime.
Very unnerved by this development. I’m really not sure how exactly this affects things beyond the visuals - which really are quite pretty. It was nice at sunset, but something about the moonlight really just, oomph! IDK how to put it.
After discovering the change in time, I decided to give the Healing Church Workshop another go, wondering if maybe the door opened. I never found out, because I got distracted checking out the backside of the building, finding a weird little creature made of faces, which led me to discover that the Workshop goes waaayyy down. I think I died like ten times trying to jump down to the bottom before giving up for the night.
So, the agenda for next time: check out the top of the Workshop, then try to get to the bottom. But also, I remembered that one dude behind a giant door who wants a password. I should try to find him again and see if I can’t get through.
This has been Bloodborne News, signing off! *generic news program outro music*

one interesting thing about bloodborn's setting is how yharnam managed to walk the line between reality and fantasy. The city is just plausibly an actual functional city like you'd find in real like, yet there are also just enough hints to see it as fictional, that the city is fantastical like what you'd find in mythology, metaphorical even. take for example day/night, during the events of the game does yharnam have a normal day night cycle or is it perpetually in night? i dont know. we the players see the entirety of a night from sunset to sunrise as the plot progresses because the stage of night narratively and thematically ties in with what is happening in the game. but it representative or literal? does the game take place over many days/nights but players only see night because the darkness contributes to the themes and atmosphere of the game or has the day/night cycle broken? the Hunt seems to be a monthly affair yet in game it always seems to be the Hunt.
