♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise?

being kind of lowkey stalked? or at least, i assume as much - by someone i've had to block across blogs. i just don't understand that? i've always been open about saying, like, if you wanna ask why you've been blocked - go for it. but block evading by following me on alts is bizarre? i don't understand the end game there. idk, mildly annoying but not like...awful. just a little strange.

☀ What's your rp pet peeve?

i'm very much over those blogs that are aesthetics with zero threading / character interaction. every post is either an ooc ramble or a little 'my character likes x lol' - i feel it defeats the purpose of rp. i've been mutuals in the past with someone who would constantly post interest calls, starter calls, inbox calls and then ooc posts / these one liners about their muse. what got me was that every post felt very baity. like, these short posts are, ultimately. they're an easy way for likes / comments without putting in a tonne of effort.

i guess, i'm just not a fan of the low effort style. & this is coming from someone whose head hasn't been in the game the last few weeks.

i think i just feel that people can run their blogs however they want but, they shouldn't expect everyone to like it.

✂ A fandom that you feel isn't open and accepting?

resident evil. 500000000000%. and it's a shame because there are a lot of very nice people /in/ that fandom. i feel, as individuals, the fandom is lovely but as a group - it feels a very hostile and anxiety-inducing environment. like, i've never joined a fandom and immediately felt scoffed at - but that fandom made me feel that way.

there's this vibe of like 'if you don't write a character a certain way, you're not valid' and it's beyond gross. certain portrayals are treated as gospel, while other - just as good - portrayals are shunned and scoffed at. it's a very gross environment. i've had conversations with multiple people from the fandom who feel the same thing & it's just a crying shame that so many re lovers will be disuaded by a small group of people.

my re mutuals here are the lovely ones - like, i've had nothing but good experiences with them and i /adore/ their portrayals. we're all resident evil lovers and we embrace it. others in the fandom? not so much, the elitism is genuinely saddening.

a little salty. i've not been feeling too hot the last week & it's making me antsy - you know the feelin', i'd hit you up to rant but i want u to be taking it easy cause i think ur cute.

nah. jealousy's a gross thing i don't waste time on - i admire a lot of people & always try to see the best in people. people i don't like very much i just ignore. but nah, jealousy's never been a thing for me. even in my relationship, i don't do it. it's not worth the energy & is way better to just be happy for peeps

Leon was supposed to propose to you during an out-of-the-country trip to Switzerland but unfortunately, he left the ring behind and had to secretly beat himself up over it. One beautiful evening, after you and him had just gotten home from the orchestra, he fished the tiny velvet box from his pocket and got down on one knee, too overcome by nerves to remember the speech he swore he memorized and too much in love to stall the question.

“You’re the last person I’d want to lose and the first person I’d think of growing old with. Y/N, will you marry me?”. In the end, he got the most unforgettable ‘yes’ he’s ever heard from you.

The wedding planning took 12 months, enough time to plan the wedding straight out of your dreams. He made sure to make the occasion magical, ensuring that the wedding is fit for a goddess amongst women (in his humble opinion). The wedding rings you and Leon agreed on were perfect, eager for the day that you two will finally have them on forever and ever, the rings facing wear and tears as you go gray and feeble with him.

Everyone saw your wedding dress before your wedding day– everyone but Leon. As soon as the large doors opened up and revealed you, Leon could no longer stop the tears flowing down his cheeks– you were so beautiful and breathtaking and it was as if veiled light itself was walking down the aisle. He was unable to keep his gaze to the front, head tilting to admire you every second. “You look so beautiful,” he excitedly whispered. “I can’t believe I’m marrying you.”

Since you and him agreed on a wedding color scheme of black, different shades of pink, and varying shades of warm white, the flowers you had for your bridal bouquet also followed that scheme, the flowers being cashmere anemones; white and baby pink tulips; vanda orchids; white limonium flowers, and white mink proteas. Everyone else also wore their dresses and suits in pinks and black; Chris opted for a sleek black turtleneck and blazer with a pink flower pinned to his breast pocket. Most of the women in attendance at your wedding opted to wear pink, with the men opting for black. Everyone was buzzing with excitement in their placements: Rebecca and Claire making joking bets that whoever cries first will pay up; Jill and Hunnigan were talking about how pretty you will look; Ethan and Chris were hyping Leon up since the groom was nervous but nevertheless excited; Piers and Carlos were talking about how good everything looks and how magical the air feels.

When the priest said “you may now kiss the bride”, Leon took a small step closer to you, gently lifting the veil that covered your face. He did everything slowly, as if he wanted to savor the moment and commit every single detail– the sparkle in your eyes, the music in the background, and how everyone and everything else seemed to be a blur of colors except for the glowing bride in front of him. As soon as he removed the veil from your face, he took a few moments to admire you and pepper you with sincere compliments. He placed his left hand on your waist while his right gently cupped your cheek, big hands handling you with so much caution as if you were made of porcelain. He leans in and presses the gentlest, softest, most tender kiss ever, a small spreading on his lips when it really sinks in that he finally gets to call you his wife.

You and Leon had your first dance somewhere private since you wanted it to be a moment only you and him will share so after the first dance, you and him walk back to the reception hand-in-hand with the brightest smiles. The ring looked amazing on both your hands and Leon couldn’t stop to admire your hand. “You’ve got a ring like mine too, you know,” you’d softly tell him. “I know. It looks better with you though,” he’d respond sweetly before kissing the back of your hand. For the bouquet toss, you decided to use an exact replica of your bouquet since you wanted to keep your flowers in your own home; Rebecca ended up catching your bouquet, much to everyone’s surprise. She happily swung it around, showing it off to everyone, before walking with a happy sway of her hips towards her boyfriend Billy, which made Billy chuckle before pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.

You and Leon left early, waving everyone good night and good bye as you got in the bridal car that would take you to the hotel you were going to stay in. Since Chris was sober and had already volunteered to drive you to the hotel, he also left the party early. As soon as you two were out of the reception, it was immediately all kisses and giggles and I love yous muttered. Chris had to look you two through the rear-view mirror and say “I’m still here. You’ve got a room for all that when we get there.”

Married life won’t be all smooth sailing and conflicts are unavoidable but in facing and resolving those conflicts together, you will discover just how strong your commitment to each other is.

Ever since that date, he sneaks off when you're not around to try all the flavours.

He would be a sweet tooth (despite how passionately he will deny this), and orders the limited edition seasaonal tea with extra foam on top! Always 100% ice and sugar.

He's a closet sweet-tooth (especially RE2 Leon, he looks like he pretends to like coffee, inspired by this)

When you find an empty cup in the bin, he will act nonchalant and say "Oh I happen to pass by for work".

But you already know he's lying when you found a membership card in the frontest pocket of his wallet - probably eligible for a few free drinks at this point.

REBECCA CHAMBERS

Caramel milk tea with pudding. Extra sugar and standard ice.

She likes sugar, and she's not afraid to admit it!

Always get the large size since she works long hours in the lab, so she sips away her drink throughout her shift.

Probably hyped up the shop to all her colleagues already, hoping to find a companion to join her.

Very close with the shop manager since she goes there daily - will chat and banter with them

CHRIS REDFIELD

He would just get plain black tea, no sugar and less ice.

To keep up with his physique and body fat percentage low, he doesn't usually drink unless you drag him there.

Raves on about the antioxidants in black tea and how it's good for you (such a health nerd)

Starts complaining 'it's too sweet' everytime he sips on any of your drinks - apparently even a hint of sugar is too much for this old man sometimes.

ASHLEY GRAHAM

Matcha with fresh milk, extra sugar, cream on top, and mini pearls!

I think she will start drinking mango fruit tea/fruity with popping pearls but eventually branches out to matcha.

She probably thought of doing a bottomless bubble tea stand for her dream wedding ceremony.

I think she would get along with Rebecca with their mutual love for bubble tea! I think they'll be such good friends if not their age differences!

CARLOS OLIVEIRA

Normally, Carlos orders a very normal coconut green tea with no modifications.

Until one day he decides to be really cheeky and order it with every topping the shop has to offer

Rainbow jelly, pearls, pudding, grass jelly, etc. (yes, even red beans)

So many toppings that only half of the cup is liquid and the other half is a concoction of chaos

Bobarista is terrified, but Carlos is grinning widely

Still inhales the whole drink in less than an hour anyway

ADA WONG

She will go for a warm brewed tea (thinking between oolong or earl grey), no toppings or sugar.

Don't think she enjoys iced drinks in general, rather have warm/hot drinks or just plain water.

Something in the bubble tea gives her acne breakouts so she avoids it. Plus her job is so busy that it doesn't allow her such luxuries.

Might indulge in extra sugar if she wants a treat, but suffers the consequences later.

Random (and somewhat silly) Leon Kennedy headcannons

* Leon is a sleepwalker. I have no justification for it other than I think it’d be funny

* Ironically he’s also a VERY light sleeper

* And to add insult to injury, he snores like a freight train.

* Leon is Transgender. Trust me guys he told me himself

* Also got that ADHD Autism combo. Again just trust me you guys he said so himself-

* Bisexual disaster. Probably leans towards men but every gender gives him Gay Panic

* Leon can’t imagine ever actually being able to settle down and retire because of his work, but if he could, he would love to be a Father :))

I love Claire Redfield a lot; and it saddens me whenever I read discussions about how Capcom treats her character rather poorly in actuality.

RE2R is my first RE game (RE7-RE8 introduced me to the franchise, but I only watched it), and I hold it close to my heart (even though Leon’s story triggered some bad memories in me oof). To be honest I didn’t expect to love Claire, because just like the other good chunk of newcomers, I came to the franchise because of the pretty boy. But surprisingly, at the end of my playthrough, I ended up loving Claire a LOT. (And as for Leon, I became a little less of a simp. Got a love(70%)-dislike(30%) relationship with this dude).

I think what made me love Claire is that while she is not professionally trained to become a cop/agent (in other words, an ordinary girl/civilian), she’s resilient, courageous and protective—not to mention highly empathetic (she’s not afraid to show so much emotion). She’s quite sassy, and has a good sense of humor. She’s relatable, AND CUTE! I love the fact that this loving girl can turn badass when someone is in need of her help.

She’s awesome.

…Now, I’m just gonna do a disjointed rant below (opinion-heavy).

Being in the fandom for more than a year, I read a lot about Resident Evil, and also learned of its underlying issues (inconsistencies, favouritism, odd storywriting, shipwars, etc.) which made me frustrated more than anything.

As much as I love Claire & Leon as a duo/ship, I have beef with Infinite Darkness because of how they handled Claire (and same goes for Death Island). Not only that, but the fact that even though Claire was a huge part in Sherry’s story, we have YET to see them reunite (the Teppen card is cute, but seriously, you make them meet THERE?).

I also found it odd how Claire (in the OG RE3 epilogue) just went and left Leon and Sherry behind almost immediately. I get that she urgently had to find Chris, but… um. (I swear to gOD IF CAPCOM DOESN’T FIX THIS PART I WILL SCREAM BECAUSE HOLY SHIT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT LEON SAYING “As LoNg aS we StIck ToGetheR, wE’LL bE FiNe” IN THE REMAKE IS ALL FOR NAUGHT/IRONIC)

Sometimes, I find it hard to keep loving this series (but then again, there’s always some ups and downs…). I just hope Capcom realizes that some (if not most) still care about Claire. I mean… she was ranked 3rd in the latest Capcom character popularity poll.

I made this post cuz I’ve been lurking around Reddit to read Resident Evil topics (because REtwt is unserious 70% of the time) and I came across this thread discussing as to why Claire’s being sidelined (more often than not) and man… I wish they’d actually improve their writing on Claire (AND Jill/Rebecca). Chris and Leon are cool and all, but… give some care to the girls as well.

i might recompile my winterfield headcanons that i've written in twitter but here's a new one (food edition(??)):

ethan is pescatarian, before re7 he eats chicken but never other types of meat, chris manages to reintroduce him to eat chicken again for his military training but ethan became sick.

because of ethan's new diet, ethan went in and tried different types of fish for variety, but at the end he sticks to his favorite week night fish meat is the typical salmon or tilapia, for him grouper fish is the best for soup meals

ethan does't eat raw sashimi or any raw meat due to re7 incident.

ethan doesn't like shellfish too much due to the texture, some are okay like abalone.

chris prefer seasoning that punch your taste buds, something very strong like Garam Masala, Cajun, Shacha sauce (Chinese BBQ), while ethan preferences is pretty mild, so around the circle of Herbes de Provence.

i'm not saying that ethan can't handle the spices or the heat, he just prefer simpler taste and the natural taste of the main ingredient (salmon, etc).

acidity for food, like lemon and vinegar are exceptions, ethan describes it "brings the whole dish back alive!"

from my previous headcanon, i've mentioned how chris is very big into safety (guns, cars, etc), this includes him being cautious with picking meat suppliers and checking labels on where they got their meat from ((again, it's because of the RPD incident, even though he is not there to experience it singlehandedly, he saw his close ones living in that situation, same thing with his parents dying due to a car incident)) it's more so long term over short term, sure he'll try an exotic meat like squirrel/snake from a trusted restaurant/supplier but he's not going to eat that meat everyday

chris' priority isn't about enviromental sustainability (sadly), really just for health wise for him and his close ones (IF they ask, ethan and rebecca agreed, claire doesn't care, jill and leon is indifferent with these sets of informations)

as for chris, he eats whatever meat, he prefers lean meat due to his training, so chicken is very important for him. other meat such as beef and pork is more so a treat for chris. he WILL try exotic meat.

but again, I think both are okay eating the same meal over and over again, and genuinely not picky, Chris doesn't pay too much attention if the meal that he'd ate is the same with the previous meal, he only cares of it's healthy or not (claire and him grew up eating leftovers after leftovers, claire sometimes complained about it). Ethan has a different reason, i think of him to have phases cater around his interest and that phases last in 6-8 month or so.

most of the main dish were picked by ethan, most of the time it's made using dutch oven, so something along the lines of cassrole or stews were often dinner meals for them. with a side of light salad or carbs like stale bread.

Chris isn't the "health police", he's really just a very cautious man. OHH the irony since he smokes the most in the group.

He still sneaks in some chocolate and sweet treats too.. ethan finds it adorable to see that chris is a sweet tooth like him 😭 soemtimes ethan will ask chris if they can get ice cream and you can see the man struggling to say no 🥺

chris sometimes substitue his cigarette with licorice lozenges. he doesn't like patches, but he will take one if he's in a very long flight.

chris HAS to sleep in plane flights, if not he'll grew restless due to him not smoking. he'll wake up to eat or take a piss and that's it.

you know how there are many parallels between Chris and Wesker?

hear me out.

An AU where Wesker sort of merges with Chris via Uroboros, a lá Venom, resulting in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of thing.

Chris usually is the one in control, but sometimes, Wesker takes over his body. Not only mentally, but also physically (blonde hair, iconic cat eyes, face shape, etc.) with Uroboros and everything.

Chris has to keep Wesker's iconic shades somewhere on his person at all times, just in case if Wesker takes over.

People getting confused as to where Chris is when Wesker is causing havoc. I can imagine the horror of Wesker taking over Chris in front of someone like Jill or Leon, they can't kill him because that would kill Chris too. I love the idea that Chris would be mentally conversing with Wesker and getting on each other's nerves but Wesker can tell him on things Chris doesn't know about (eg. details of an organisation or person that Chris isn't aware of) and provide strategies. If Chris can't handle something or if he's in danger of dying Wesker will take over and take the heat. They would make a very dangerous combination. It's a nice concept of the two of them literally being intertwined in mind and body and feeling what the other feels, learning and understanding each other more through memories and emotions; like how Eddie and Venom developed their relationship and became inseparable. I remember that psychic abilities is a thing in the RE universe, I don't know the full details of it but it might not be entirely impossible for Chris and Wesker to merge or Wesker putting his consciousness into Chris? 🤔 Physically merging though I'm not sure about, but then look what happened with Birkin; the virus became it's own and for a time it was two bodies in one until Birkin was no more.

In RE5 there's a rare animation that can happen during the volcano fight where Chris is restraining Wesker from behind while Sheva attacks his core/heart, and the Uroboros tentacles were wrapping around Chris as if to assimilate him or merge him with Wesker.

I wonder what would they would have merged...or Chris would get consumed by Uroboros like Wesker was

The Jill that goes into the Entity's realm in canon is RE3! Jill.

She already has survival experience against the undead and bioweapons.

Despite her natural survival instinct, Jill may still be lost in the Entity's realm.

First of all, survivors are unable to have weapons such as firearms to harm killers.

This is something Jill had grown used to... without a weapon she needs to learn to rely on other instincts.

Then there's the fact she isn't just dealing with Nemesis in here.

She has to evade other horrors with the help of three other survivors.

Not only does she need to look out for herself, she needs to look out for her new "team".

Even for a survivalist like her it's easy to be overwhelmed.

Then she met you, an even more skilled survivor.

You were one of the first survivors that the Fog claimed.

As a result you are better acclimated to this realm unlike Jill.

Upon introducing yourself to one another over a campfire, Jill learned you took on the role of a guide in the basics of the realm.

"Here, survivors need to learn a new normal. We are constant prey. Yet luckily, you'll have plenty of time to learn how to survive."

Jill remembers your words to her as helpful, yet she also catches the dark undertones of your message.

This isn't going to be a walk in the park.

Jill is used to dangerous situations, this is new to her however.

Jill begins to learn the harsh truth of this realm when she begins her first few trials.

Every trial is harsh with a new killer and area to learn.

The slightest mistake is punished, be that poor team performance or lack of knowledge about your surroundings.

Punishment is usually always a painful experience.

Although, by the end of the trial, you wake up fine regardless of your performance.

It's disorienting and could easily make someone go insane.

That is unless they aren't alone.

Jill quickly learns that if she wants to succeed in survival here, she needs to learn from you.

She learns about this realm a lot from you.

She learns how to stall the killer, how to repair a generator, and how to function with fellow survivors.

She even learns some survivors have relationships in the realm despite the situation.

"It's our new normal." Jill remembers you saying.

Jill's obsession is slow to develops romantically in this realm.

She takes time to apply the skills she knows and was taught by you to her situations and actually thrives quite well after a few dozen trials.

She has you to thank for that.

Jill actually bonds well with you due to you helping her, be it survival skills or coping with the loss of her friends.

That is until she realizes she was actually sent here with Leon, Chris, Claire, etc...

As a result Jill may feel like she wants to be romantically involved with you.

It's perfect... you've done so much for her already, it's worth a try isn't it?

She hasn't had time for a partner... now she has all the time in the world.

The woman prepares a confession to you until she finds out one final thing.

You're close to someone else already, a survivor named Nea.

Jill keeps an eye on Nea to see the relationship between the two of you.

You're about as close to her as you are with Jill, if not more due to Nea being around longer like you.

Jill is not normally the jealous type.

In fact it surprises her when she discovers a dark burning feeling deep in her gut when she sees you with Nea.

Has this realm been changing her and she's never noticed?

I like to imagine Nea soon finds out about Jill's intentions with you and proceeds to start things over it.

Nea may be yandere herself or may not be, yet she confronts Jill's strange behavior towards you.

The grown woman who survived the apocalypse follows you everywhere like a puppy, come on.

Something's up.

Nea may confront Jill to cause some sort of rift between you and Jill or just to genuinely understand why Jill is so infatuated with you.

It's not your typical crush, Nea can tell that much.

Jill's eyes just look too... dark.

As a result I can imagine these two fighting.

Seeing survivors fight one another isn't uncommon due to the high stress level the realm creates... yet normally others get along.

Which is why is surprises you when you walk in on a fight between Jill and Nea, a bloody fist fight Jill may just be winning.

This new violent nature in Jill puts everyone off.

Jill's surprised she let her jealousy get the best of her.

Nea's surprised Jill would be that kind of person and worries for your safety.

You are surprised that the two would fight so brutally and wonder what it was about.

You get your answer when Nea comes up to you and confesses her findings.

Jill's jealous of Nea and wants her out of the picture.

You ask your friend why and she looks away nervously.

"She likes you... more like obsessed with you if you ask me. She wouldn't stop telling me to stay away from you."

Once you're more aware of Jill's dark and corrupted feelings, you stay wary of her.

A theory as to why Jill's behavior changes to drastically could be due to the Entity.

The Entity could have manipulated Jill, turning her protective intentions into a suffocating jealousy and obsession towards you.

Part of her doesn't mean what she does.

Although she continues to try and be close to you, scared of losing you.

She tells you it was just an argument!

Everyone in this realm has seen worse!

Jill tries to tell you that she truly just wants to protect you in this realm.

You've done it with her, right?

She'll repay the favor, just forgive her!

This may also cause arguments between you, causing conflict in the survivors and their trust.

Jill is not normally one to force anything.

Although if the conflict continues, Jill may just snap due to the Entity's influence.

Maybe the Entity doesn't just like blood and violence.

Maybe it also likes the obsession and conflict between survivors, without a killer...

Why else would the Entity allow Jill to drag you away from the group in private?

By this point, Jill won't be herself.

She's let these romantic feelings corrupt her mind and now all she can focus on is you.

All she wants is you and your warm embrace/comfort in this dark realm.

She may not be able to kill Nea, but maybe she can scare the others away from you instead, or mark you to show you are taken.

When you're pinned to a tree by Jill and she gives you that bloodshot look before kissing you with such force... you learn killers aren't your only threat.

It's easy for the Entity to corrupt even the most innocent of feelings... and Jill, normally such a stoic survivalist, is an example of what could happen if you listen to the Entity's whispers.

He gives me the ick, I’m sorry, and for that reason, I don’t see him as anything but a straight-cisgendered man.

While I can attempt to ignore it as the writers being weird, I can’t do it since then I’d be biased as I’ve not done it for any other creep in the series, and I’m not going to start now.

I just talked with someone who said "Only Claire can keep up with Leon destructive behavior since they've been friends for many years" and say this just because she understand leon.

Like, i find this fucking horrible to say this ? Especially that Claire already have to deal with her owns trauma etc, just imagine you cop with a depressing, unstable, alchoolic and a bit suicidal partner ? Like Leon is literally mentally weak, he let himself getting used by kinda everyone because he's trying to convince himself he's doing it for the right thing (since he see himself as a weapon LOL) who obviously never checked a therapist, or trying to wake up himself (It's literally Chris in VEN who woke up Leon.) and just because Claire understand him. It's not enough, and obviously they never had to deal with thoses type of stuff.

Like for me so far, Leon is too damn unstable for any type of shit and doesn't "deserve" to be with Claire yet.

But I have one thing I must add to all this... Chris was not the "only one" who helped Leon from that mental stage. Rebecca was there too and also the call from Patricio's wife and the tiny voice of his daughter, it all rang a bell in Leon's mind.

Besides, as someone who watched the movie with the comentarists (and directors of the movie), they mentioned why they did the way they did Leon's "redemption" and "back-to-action" moment and why it all happened so fast.

And the reason was: Low budget, and they wanted Leon in the movie ready for Action and not dwell on it for too long. That was not the focus of the movie.

So they needed Leon to just... Get back to it the next scene. With Chris being there or not -, the second Rebecca got kidnapped what did Leon say?

"There goes my vacation, again!"

Regardless of Chris existing in the movie or not. Leon would get back to his feet again for Rebecca.

But they also wanted to write Leon as a defeated-hero because: That would be popular among his fangirls (and RE4R is the prove it does work), and because Chris already had that moment in RE6 and they liked the plot so they wanted to give it to Leon, too.

And no, it is not a lie that only Claire can pull out with Leon AND VICE VERSA.

Like how only Chris and Jill really understand what they went through in the Spencer mansion.

No matter how vividly Leon and Claire try to describe what they lived in Raccoon City -, only they know.

Only they know what happened in the aftermatch.

Only they know the burden of needing to fake a smile to a child when they were as hopeless and lost about where to go from there.

Only they know the relief of reuniting with each other after such a drama.

Only they know what they went through. It is not a lie. Leon and Claire went through this together and it is no wonder that, for Leon, -, she is HIS PARTNER in this.

Not Jill, not Chris, not Rebecca... CLAIRE Is. So yes, She is the one he trusts and can find some sort of comfort. And I am not speaking any of this saying: "ROMANTICALLY, THEY ARE PERFECT"

I am saying this in a: Their friendship is what is keeping them sane in this time.

RE4OG, When Krauser asks Leon what he is fighting for...? Guess the image that comes to his mind? Claire.

Not because he is FIGHTING FOR HER. But because he is fighting for who he was -, for his past.

In RE6? In his file he mentions Claire and Sherry. Especially Sherry when mentioning about why he "don't end himself once and for all"

So... Yeah. Yeah. I agree. Claire is the only one capable to.

No one is saying: "THIS IS HER RESPONSIBILITY TO DO IT". What we are saying is that OUT OF A PROFESSIONAL HELPER, only Claire knows. Only she really knows.

Only Leon knows, too. It is vice-versa. But to add to the equation, Leon is being forced to work for people that hurt others and are to blame for all this mess, while Claire genuinely believes and loves her job.

Huge difference here.

As someone who went through a job she hated and did not believe in... I tell you Leon's problem is not ONLY RC. It is the now, the present. And friends like Claire -, friends who went through the same shit as you but are doing something GOOD out of the same experience bring us HOPE.

It is almost a SALVATION for him to know Claire is doing so well. As he says in RE:DEGENERATION -, Claire followed a path he couldn't follow. And she is not wrong for that.

Death Island: Jill's Character Arc

So I've now watched all the official resident evil movies (the animated ones) in order, so I just finished Death Island. I have a few thoughts on it!

(Disclaimer: DEATH ISLAND SPOILERS! this is not a hate post made to diss anyone who likes the movie! I just like media analysis and I want to open a discussion about this movie!)

For having such a big cast of characters that we know and love, I have to say that Death Island is my least favorite movie out of the bunch...I feel like the pacing is a bit weird and I don't really feel immersed or engaged with the story. A lot of that has to do with how they handle the character arcs.

A downside of the big cast is that they don't focus on individual characters as much, and I really felt that this should've been Jill's movie. As much as like Chris, Leon, Rebecca and Claire, I think that if the movie had a focus on Jill (her trauma, her feelings, etc) it would've made a much more solid movie. We get little tastes of it in the movie but I would love if it was expanded upon; with Jill realizing that actions in trying not to feel helpless/guilty/in control is only going to put others in danger.

A good scene to reflect that would've been the scene where everyone was infected by the drones. I think it would've been really interesting to see Jill shut down in a way, or maybe have her actions be the cause of the others being infected (instead of those drones) because that would solidify the message that her actions she took to make herself feel better and more in control ultimately ended up in her friends getting hurt. (Which I feel like was kinda the message they were trying to go for in the movie.)

This would also reflect better with Dylan Blake, the villain, as a foil. He feels helpless in the face of "good and evil" and he felt helpless when his team got turned in Raccoon City. Everything he does after that is to "atone" for what he did and make everyone else feel as helpless as he did as a pawn of Umbrella. You know who also feels like she has to atone for being a pawn of someone else? Jill! They both feel guilty for doing something that was ultimately out of their control and deal with it in unorthodox manners.

(I think even Jill sees how ridiculous this thought process is by the end of the movie, where she says something like: "You're gonna kill the whole world because you feel sorry for killing your friend?" Which, funnily enough, reflects exactly what Jill was doing athe the beginning of the movie; possibly getting herself and others killed just because she felt bad that she tried to kill Chris when mind controlled.)

But the difference between Jill and Dylan would be that Jill would be able to realize her risky behavior is only making herself MORE at risk and helpless, even if it means having a bit of control. That she has to rely on her friends and move past the guilt in order to do what is right. Relinquish a bit of control and put some trust in her friends hands. Forgive herself. Dylan is unable to do that, which separates him from Jill and ultimately leads him to be a villain (and his demise).

I think it would be a wonderful message for Jill to forgive herself and decide that she WANTS to heal. Healing from trauma is one of my favorite things to explore in a story (especially if it's messy) and I think it would fit within the story of Resident Evil so well... And their characters definitely deserve it LOL

But what do you guys think? Do you like the movie or do you think it would've been better if it was more Jill-centric?

also, my time to shine,,, funnily i don't have much headcanon about them in terms of relationship(?) i have individual headcanon and then see how they interact 😭, but yea! here you go

chris only remember ethan's face in detail since his job is meeting new people and they come and go pretty quick, even someone who's close with chris, he only remember them on what qualities they stuck the most, claire with her red leather jacket, jill with her gruff voice, leon with his chicken handwriting, etc. So you can say that out of everyone, ethan for chris stuck out like a sore of thumb, and ethan finds it pretty comforting.

i picture them living in alaska with new identities, off from populated area but close enough to a major city if there's any emergency, so you can see both of them mellow out (took the a few years), still each of them wear a cap/scarf to cover their face partially.

all of them (chris, ethan, rose) takes medication daily. chris is getting old and have some issue with his mental problems. for both ethan and rose is mold related, ethan has additional medication for his mental health

chris mostly rest his eyes and never really go into deep sleep, so he could monitor ethan, but at the same time he's very self conscious on how loud he can snore. They have a guest room and sometimes chris sleeps there or the floor.

they have a "no shoe indoor" house because of chris, from his worldly travel, he finds it fascinating that some culture does this and thought that i'll bring everyone closer together, because of that they (chris,ethan, rose) does family activities together, naps on the floor, play. etc. But because of this they mop the floor weekly for hygiene and they wear slippers.

ethan still suffer from social anxiety even with extensive therapy and consultation (with or without chris), and because of that for the most part he stays at home since it's his "safe place" and chris knows this well. So, he prepared and got themselves a house with good enough backyard as chris doesn't want ethan to feel trapped inside, but ethan did muster up enough energy to leave the house sometime as he doesn't like the particular feeling of "burdening other due to my circumstances" and chris appreciates that ethan is taking small steps

a very boring, quiet couple, they just have a very mundane life, walks rose to kindergarten, walk to park, cook food, eat dinner together, laundry, read books, etc. i guess the boring part is they don't really bicker (argue yes, teasing also happens often), but their presences just lifts each other up. They don't need to reassure each other "i love you" that kind of sentences, they trust each other deeply and so much so that you thought that they can read each other's mind

they take turns dressing rose to kindergarten, but for the most part it's chris since he wakes up pretty early to work on the bakery, this also one of the reason why chris prepares breakfast and lunch for them.

some NSFW headcanon (nothing too spicy but PLEASE DNI IF YOU'RE UNDERAGE) (tldr; they don't really do it)

sex isn't their first priority/ comes to mind, they're both old, but for the most part chris just lets ethan do whatever (so bottom!chris), he's tired and he like to get pampered time to time.

and for the most part i can picture them to forget what they're doing and just side line to them mostly cuddle

Couple days ago, you were talking to an anon about how remake may be intending to scrap the alcoholism aspect of Leon, and I was just curious, do you think that's a good decision? If yes, would you like it to be replaced by a different coping mechanism in canon (other than repression)? Healthy or unhealthy?

I know this sounds really weird but bare with, lmfao. The whole alcoholic headcanon is what actually places him in my top favourites. It's because I can't stand squeaky clean protagonists. I'm insane for gritty realism, regardless of the media.

RE isn't a Shakespearien masterpiece and I don't expect it to be, but I do think a little more should be poured into the heroes negative traits (just for the sake of my own tastes). I know some are angry and selfish etc., but that only stretches so far. What do these characters DO?

I love the aspect of Chris often acting on rage and emotion, making senseless choices. I love that Leon is in and out of a drunken, depressed asshole phase. I love that Wesker is the most insecure motherfucker on the planet.

I want to know more about how Jill is low key suicidal post-mind control. I want to know more about how Claire feels useless (which was very faintly touched on in Degeneration). Idk, I love seeing nitty, gritty humany traits on screen. It makes them fifty times more likeable to me. (Apologies for rambling and going a little off topic).

i think alcoholism is... easy. it's an easy trope for someone who doesn't fully understand how trauma works to express that a character has trauma. and i say this as an addict.

i was much happier with how leon was portrayed in remake, with him lashing out at an ada who absolutely didn't deserve it. i want to see him project and misplace his anger like that. i want to see his trauma manifest in every day behavioral shit because THAT is really where the insidious nature of trauma comes out.

i think of the drinking as just garnish. other behavioral problems are the meatier symptoms, for me personally.

that's why i like chris's anger so much, too.

Themes I Won't Write: underaged characters/"aged-up" (unless a canon aged-up version of said character is shown, i.e., in Haikyuu), mlm/male reader, scat, vomit (?), pedophilia, HEAVY DDLG, extreme violence and BDSM during sex (besides choking/love bites), extremely detailed physical abuse, femdom (sadly <\3)
