the seven year slip by ashley poston, which is a romance novel sort of akin to the lake house starring keanu reeves? a woman goes to a house and falls in love with its other inhabitant, a man who lived there seven years ago

girl serpent thorn by melissa bashardoust, a fairytale about a girl who is cursed to kill everyone she touches

burn the negative by josh winning, a horror novel about the production of a cursed horror movie

true biz by sara novic which i mostly want to read bc i’m borrowing it from my stepmom and want to return it LMAO

oh gosh lemme look at the ol’ list!

been thinking about a follow up to a veeery old piper/annabeth pjo fic on my ao3. can’t decide if I wanna go with the original outline of a kind of plotty thing or just go for vibes and nonsense. it’s been about eight years ish so either way it’s not as though anyone is expecting anything, but. i am pondering.

a missing scene from fantasy high: sophomore year about gilear and Sandra Lynn on the van together. they had so much time to talk. how goes it, divorcees?

a birds of prey thing involving a fake marriage and undercover work in suburbia. i’m not sure this one will come to anything but it sparks joy.

binx and andhera from a court of fey and flowers should babysit for the lords of feathers. it would be great. i’m not great at writing kids, but.

Hi yes I would like to hear about Clove and Goobie

yessss time for me to spread my goobie and ji-eun agenda >:) it seems like a weird pairing at first but like. when you think about it in any capacity it just makes a whole lot of sense?

like, to set the scene a bit: the season 20 georgias are a huge mess. niq nyong'o, the team captain, just died. frankie hambone, the most responsible adult left on the team, spends the remainder of the season elsewhere. jan canberra, the person most willing to step up to the position, feedbacked to tokyo earlier in the season. this is a version of the georgias that is grieving and directionless

ji-eun is a newcomer, but was sort of brought on the team against its will, replacing a very noteworthy figure and now having to fill her shoes as atlantis's reality anchor. it's a very stressful position, and more than anything ji-eun just needs someone that can give it a bit of guidance but like, who's left on the team that can do that? niq's dead and the people close enough to her to know what advice she'd have to pass on are currently knee-deep in grieving.

so that's where goobie comes in, right? goobie's this very outgoing and friendly person, who wants to do the best he can to comfort the team during this rough time. but it's difficult, because he's still really new here so like, he hasn't fully earned the Trust of his teammates if that makes sense? it's not that they don't like him necessarily, it's just that like. if you're flattery mckinley and your wife just died, the first person you go to for support isn't gonna be this guy you barely know who got here a few weeks ago.

but one person he CAN help is ji-eun, who is pretty much just as much a newcomer as he is, and needs that support network more than anything else at the moment. goobie might not fully grasp the gravity of ji-eun's situation, but he understands that ji-eun is stressed out and struggling to get help from a team that's just as stressed as it is about the whole situation and like

idk, there's something endearing to me about this pairing of misfit newcomers, you know? two people that arrive on the team at a stressful time, and are struggling to connect with teammates who need time to grieve, but can sort of connect with each other and make this difficult situation a little more bearable

the other upside about making ji-eun and goobie friends is that it plays nicely with ji-eun's narrative -- there's sort of a running theme with ji-eun, where all the people on the georgias it can connect with aren't there for very long, and in the case of goobie he gets traded to the tacos in season 21 and is almost immediately incinerated, right? and i feel this kind of just adds more to this already established narrative beat, that leads to ji-eun deciding it doesn't want to deal with the stress of life in atlantis anymore, that it accepts moving to miami when the PTG comes for it

idk. this is still a relatively recent development and i feel like goobie is a character i could sort of get to know better in my head but like, i think they play nicely off of each other and it's a dynamic i feel more people should think about!!

i still really really love how fame’s not a lover came out it’s always a good feeling when the finished product looks p much exactly like the idea did

for all that i have a ton of unfinished crap in my google drive i don’t really have any stuff that i’m actively working on rn? i was picking at an outline for another longfic but idk that it’ll go anywhere so! maybe none unless something comes up?

4. what fic of your own do you read for comfort?

I think this really depends on the day, but the ones where people are allowed to be vulnerable with each other. So stories like Ziwa Adrift, My Garbage Champion (or really any time Eugenia and Greer are together, or Hobbs Cain's Wednesday Night Nightmare Club. All of these have people opening up about their pain, or fears, or the things they care about, but don't usually say out loud, and sometimes even to people they normally wouldn't. They're also people being kind to each other.

15. How do you think your writing as improved over time?

20. What’s the greatest gift you’ve gotten from your writing?

HEY REMEMBER THE TIME YOU WROTE ME A STORY ABOUT JASPER COVEN, MY BLASEBALL SON? That was pretty great, and something I'm still thankful for (I go back and read this one and the one with Kiki too). Also, one time someone emailed me about my book, to tell me they liked it. I still think about that like at least once a week.

I don't know how it would work, I don't know where the idea came from. But I'm rereading the Abhorsen series and I had a rare pair thought:

Disreputable Dog/Mogget enemies to friends to lovers (though almost certainly ace rep or something mystic like Good Omens angel/demon feelings sex and not bodily sex [not that GO body sex fic isn't also delightful but I digress])

Also, Good Omens/Old Kingdom crossover in general but I would love for Aziraphele and Mogget to be friends (library cat) and Crowley and the Dog to be friends (chaos twins)

this is! one of the many irms that i will probably never finish lol but it’s a dudley mueller irm that is in response to 1) some personal ideas i have about the hellmouth and adaptations (tldr i think they should be fucked up genie wishes that mean you’ll survive in the hellmouth But At What Cost), 2) old and maybe-apocryphal lore about the beams forgetting the moab when the hellmouth opened, and 3) the s7 election where the beams decided not to go for a blessing bc it would shadow dudley, only to get a feedback and end up gunning for it bc it would shadow someone else

basically this dudley irm is like. moab born and raised and very attached to its hometown, human person, kind of a slacker deadbeat type who doesn’t do much, is generally pretty apathetic about being in a bloodsport bc this is just another job

and THEN. it is nearly hit by the downsizing blessing and it becomes aware that it is completely at the whims of fans, and the best way to be safe from the fans is to be good. so it goes to the desert and says make me something good and deadly that they can’t touch, and the hellmouth makes it a siphon - or more accurately, it becomes a buzzard harpie, it is dangerous and dedicated and it will not be at risk again

bonus b-plots are it being very committed to moab documentation efforts and the downsides of becoming Too Good Of A Player

the last binding series. idk if i actually will, but it was really fun to play in that world and i'd love to do more of it.

this is so tough because i've really struggled with titles this WHOLE year, if i'm honest. i do not know why. but i think a favorite is probably que ce qui n’existe pas. i'm always impressed when people find the perfect line of poetry to allude to as a title, and i finally, finally got one. thank god.
