It seems ridiculous that a real person show as widely watched as Danganronpa would actually literally murder the actors lol, even as ‘ultimate real fiction’, so for this I was working off the assumption V3 was really a virtual reality world like the Neo world program! So everyone got to wake up at the end safe and sound! Many tearful reunions followed lol

Hi hi! Here again with some fresh off the presses fanfiction for @chaos-company's Angstpril 2023 event! As always, this is for Danganronpa v3's postgame, in a virtual reality AU setting.

This post in particular is for Day 22's prompt (I'm a little bit behind, but we're working on it), Shadow of Former Self. For this prompt in particular I used Angie and Himiko. I feel like these two have got, uh, some stuff to work out in a postgame setting, so I thought they would work well here. I was right, by the way. This one is a bit of a downer and interpersonal issues abound, but if that's your jam, you'll probably enjoy this one. Hope you like it!

I was JUST playing Himiko's DRS scenes and getting emotional the other day...the way they both project all of their abilities onto some Mystical Force, willingly depriving themselves of their own agency to escape from the world and their loneliness...the way this allows Angie to meet Himiko where she's at and break her out of her shell for the first time Ever....the way Himiko could've done the same for Angie if she hadn't been killed, and instead never got to truly Know Angie past her facade...genuinely underrated ship.

himiko being someone whose felt alienated and picked on during her life and angie who has a deep lonliness.

himiko being vulnerable, and angie being lonely, angie offers her own escapism to himiko, who just desperately wants to pretend there isn’t a killing game around her.

himiko being so regretful of her rejections of tenko, whose help ultimately would’ve been better, but so grateful to angie for doing what angie could.

there’s real development, conflict, a deepness to them which can and should be explored.

two people with unhealthy escapism tendencies finding reality in one another. (eventually…)

there’s so much to do with this pairing, so much to think and feel but fan content for them can often be so, nothing. so often just portrayed as “soft sapphics” when they both, especially himiko, have such interesting characters and such an interesting relationship with eachother.

hopefully fandom spaces will come to appreciate sapphic ships that aren’t just “soft” or perfect, without boiling them down to be that or calling them toxic sometime in the near future.
