Doubtless scored to the theme from Zorba the Greek for laughs more than anything, especially by way of the Home Talent Shows staged in one-horse towns via the #2 Half-Dog, Half-Cat, Half-Track of Snagglepuss and Huckleberry Hound (and who of the two would you think is best suited to playing the theater organ)?

Synopsis: After attending NRC, our beloved characters suddenly find themselves transported to your world! The thing is, they have no idea where you are and have to make a life for themselves in the meantime. How would they adapt to life on earth? Characters: Everyone! Mix of Sentient AU! and Modern AU! Warnings: None lol. This is for my own enjoyment. Part(s): Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde, and Diasmonia You are here!: Ignihyde
Note: Spoilers for Idia’s background.
Nothing could have prepared the students of NRC for what lied beyond the mirror. A world unlike any of them ever known with magic being virtually non-existent ( or so it appears to the general public). With nothing but the clothes on their backs, falsified basic identification, personal items, and the small bits of knowledge gathered from your vessel Yuu; these young adults have one mission-find the player and stay out of prison. It was time to split up, cover as much ground as possible, and make a life in this unknown world.
Let us see how these fresh minds conform to life on earth, yes?
Ignihyde Residence: Greece!
(I have an obvious bias for this as it is my heritage. No, I don't feel bad about it)
Idia Shroud
Residence: Lipsi, Greece
Owns multiple small properties across the Greek islands. He has a preference for the locations with less tourism and more agricultural life.
Hence why his favorite place to stay is in Lipsi. A small island where at most he has the comfort of seeing the same faces every week when grabbing groceries. His diet has also improved immensely from all the locally produced goods. Well, disregarding all the junk food he sources on his own.
On the island, Idia owns a small "farmhouse" that he built himself. To the average person, it blends in perfectly with the rest of the local homes. He's buried himself deep into the island as well, so his home cannot be found by tourists. No, you physically have to go looking for it.
The outside has the traditional blue and white exterior, but inside? Decked out with the most advanced technological gear. Do NOT underestimate this man's ability to get what he needs. He has his own WIFI service up and running. Everything from the Heating/Cooling system to the stairs that automatically fold inward (to save space) were built and programmed by him. Even his trashcan!
Secluded Island? Check. Best tech? Check. Ortho is happy? Checkaroo. Idia has everything he needs to survive happily.
His house is not the tidiest though. It's not like anyone ever visits him, but still. What if you appear at his door one day? Sucks to suck, because you will be walking over so much sand that he has dragged in yet not cleaned. Also energy drinks, clothes, etc. It's horrible. One time one of the local Yiayia's came to deliver him some baked bread and spanokopita. He nearly had a heart attack when she saw the hovel known as his home and started to lecture him as if he was her own grandson
Something he learned to deal with over time. Ortho was not kidding when he said that Greece values community
Idia wasn't on board with going to Greece in the beginning. Heat? Beaches? Community? Pah. Why couldn't he be placed somewhere more westernized, where he could hide away in a high-rise building somewhere and never come out. If anyone should be surrounded by saltwater it should be the Octavinelle trio - not him!
Which...is exactly why Idia was sent to Greece. Ortho thought this would be the perfect opportunity for his big brother to get out of his shell, and the internet shows that countries in the Mediterranean are highly community oriented! Idia wouldn't be caught dead dancing zorba at a festival or having wine with the local theos and theas as they gossip. But? Perhaps seeing him do his work on the terrace while sipping frappe isn't far out of reach?
Occupation: Software Developer
There is another reason Idia agreed to go to Greece. Out of everyone, he is the best suited to do remote work. The nitty gritty of trying to use technology to locate you. Things that could get him put in jail if caught for privacy violations and data theft. To do this he needs absolute privacy.
He tries to make things quick and track the phone you used to play Twisted Wonderland with. Sadly, life is not that easy and your data is unreachable. Almost like some unspoken force (me. the one writing this) is keeping him from reaching his goal for the sake of their entertainment
There is also the matter of his and Ortho's...'special' features. Crowded places likely will not accept someone with flames for hair. Even if he passes it off as cosplay, what if something is set on fire? Or an idiot tries to touch his hair thinking it is fake? He could be denied access to facilities in highly populated places from the risk. It simply isn't worth it. Not when he can go somewhere tucked away and still be helpful.
Idia blows all tech gurus on earth away. He becomes one of the most sought after hackers, and no one is able to trace his location. To make a living, he only does short-term contract work. He only communicates through warped audio and no one knows of his identity. In all honesty, he becomes filthy rich from the amount of employers throwing contracts at him despite his strict terms. The hush-hush market is strong with this one.
When he first moved into his "farmhouse," he planned on doing his job and never socializing. Food can be ordered in bulk online, and he could pay off one of the locals to leave the packages at his doorstep. He wanted Ortho to stay home with him as well, since the chances of villagers running away and screaming in terror were high. Then the island church would likely get involved and y'know...evil demons yada yada yada because they have pointy teeth and can use their hair to roast a lamb. He watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Froyo man convinced him that everyone is close minded.
This does not work out. At all. Unfortunately, people become curious about the new residents that never seem to leave their secluded house to greet their neighbors. It's unheard of! Then they begin to talk, the local children grow curious, and Ortho gets spotted while he's tending to the goat he insisted on keeping as a pet
Surprisingly, they aren't outcasted. The people just view their hair as a weird costume, and label the brothers as interesting foreigners. It's the 21st century, and it takes more than that to frighten someone here. Not the worst outcome? And now they can go walk around the outdoor shops (I.E Ortho drags Idia)
Idia doesn't know when it exactly happened, but he became the island's handy man. It might have been when he installed security cameras for one of the local shops? Anyways, he is always getting requests and accepting them since Ortho insists on being a good neighbor. Yadayada ‘they welcomed us with open arms’ yadayada ‘we have to play nice’ yadayada
Deep down, Idia has begun to like this way of life. He gets is peace, and the people aren't too bad. He becomes a favorite of the elders and is always being sent home with baskets of food whenever he steps into town. It's nice...in moderation
He still dresses very conservatively despite the hot weather, which normally earns him a resounding "what's the matter with you? are you crazy?". He has a large collection of turtle necks, gaming t-shirts, blue jeans, and a singular pair of worn out sneakers. On rare occasions he'll swap the sneakers for sandals (like Birkenstocks) , but that's only if Ortho drags him to walk the coast at night. One of the blacksmiths in the area welds him a metal hairband; which is concerning because don't they think his hair is a costume? He uses it regardless and occasionally ties his hair back.
While living in your world, he takes the opportunity to play all the games you might have experienced growing up. He sources all of the retro systems in attempt to try things that aren't similar to what he sees back in Twisted Wonderland. At one point he notices Ortho start to invite his new friends over. He actually doesn't mind since his brother is beginning to adjust to this new way of living, and he has an entire collection of consoles, board games, etc for them to choose from when hanging out in his home.
It’s easy being in your world. Magicless. It’s boring, but with no magical energy to eat at then his curse is essentially null. Believe it, he has spent so many nights trying to use his magestone with out any luck. Everyone here is equal (at least in being human y’know. No one can fly on a broom) - a normie. He is a normie.
And it’s not as bad as he thought it would be. It’s dull but no one has expectations of him. He can do whatever he wants whenever he wants.
He wonders if things could have different if he was born here. If Ortho…yeah. It’s better that he doesn’t let the thoughts linger or else jealousy might overcome his need to see you. What matters is that his brother has never looked happier than on earth. It’s almost like the boy has found his own family and place (sparking another tinge of jealousy in his older brother)
Over time he becomes less desperate to get off the “forsaken saltwater hell,” and instead hopes that you might be open to letting himself and Ortho stay on earth. With you. As a family.
But not like one of those sickeningly cringeworthy families he’s been forced to see in those telenovas all the yiayia’s watch. Seriously. He is tired of fixing their TVs and getting yelled at if he isn’t on time for their show’s slot on cable

Broadway Divas Tournament: Round 1B
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tony-winner Karen Ziemba (1957) earned critical acclaim for her winning role of the unnamed Wife in Contact (2000), as well as other excellent turns on and off-Broadway in shows like Chicago, And the World Goes Round (1991), and Steel Pier (1997). One of Broadway's best veteran dancers, Karen debuted in A Chorus Line in the late 70s. She will next be appearing in the world premiere of Prelude to a Kiss at the South Coast Repertory.
With a career of triumph after triumph, Marin Mazzie (1960-2018) was an unfathomable talent. With lauded roles in powerhouse shows like Passion (1994), Ragtime (1998), and Kiss Me, Kate (2000, and sleeper hits like Carrie (2012), and Fire and Air (2018), Marin was born to make something beautiful. She earned three Tony nominations, and posthumously was awarded a Special Tony Award for her women's health advocacy. In 2015, the morning of her opening night in Zorba for Encores! at NYCC, Marin was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. That night, she opened the show with the lyrics "life is what you do while you're waiting to die." After three years of treatments, remissions, and relapses, Marin died on September 13, 2018. She was 57. She died at the same age and from the same disease as the great Madeline Kahn.

"Though she may be up against dear friend and Broadway's leading light Marin Mazzie, Karen Ziemba is a talent in her own right. It takes a real dancer to hold her own next to the dancing legend that is Bebe Neuwirth, and they both perform wonderfully in the above clip."

There are no words I could possibly string together that would do the late Marin Mazzie justice. Instead, I'm going to let Marin's friends and fellow Divas tell you why it will be your honor to vote for her.
"I used put on my cd of Passion or Ragtime to sing along with her. I wanted to sound just like her. That blend of warmth and strength and soul. She was a light to all and we are so lucky to have known her for the time that we did. Love to you Marin. A beautiful inspiration." - Kate Baldwin
"Her smile could light up an entire theater, her laughter was liquid gold, and that voice that channeled the gods. For everything you gave us Marin, thank you. I miss you already and forever." - Victoria Clark
"The first time Marin sang “Back to Before,” I remember thinking, “I will never hear that song sung better.” Since then, I’ve heard it sung magnificently by others, but Marin will always own it." - Lynn Ahrens
"She was it for me... I hate that that beacon of light, even though it will always be how she left us, that it's not continuing to move so I can continue to follow it. We need something to follow. And I was following a light that's out." - Kelli O'Hara
"She would always be the first person to say "how are you doing?" That kind of kindness and selflessness in a way--it's not that I didn't appreciate it then--I really did. So I don't need to smack myself in the head and say "why didn't you realize how rare and beautiful it was?" I did. What I couldn't calculate was how much I miss it." - Donna Murphy

Eurovision 2006: The Interval Act and Other Performances
Tumblr media
From the outset, ERT is putting Greek history and culture at the forefront of its musical offering at Eurovision. It kicks off with perhaps one of the greatest opening musical montages in Eurovision history. A host of camp versions of mythological Greek figures act out Eurovision songs from the past including Nel blu dipinto di blu and Save Your Kisses for Me. There's nothing quite like witnessing Prometheus taking fire from the gods while miming along to A-Ba-Ni-Bi to tell you that Eurovision has arrived.
Our two hosts join in with the final rendition of Love Shine a Light as the pantheon is raised high above the stage. Straight from the overture and into the main body of the night seamlessly.
Tumblr media
The small breaks in the running order to let the stage crew have a small breather are simple cutaways to the green room (semi-final) and time lapsed montage footage of the behind the scenes preparations - something that is almost a tradition at this point.
The interval for the semi-final is the traditional local dance culture, ranging from swirly-skirted women rotating, to the more linear Greek line dancing. Pan makes an appearance with a flute in what looks like the middle of a labyrinth - although that's myth-mixing, so I'm not sure I'm correct.
Tumblr media
The final also opens with a bang. There's a sun full of Icaruses that slowly approaches the stage like a meteorite threatening the Earth in a 1950s B-movie. I'm not sure what health and safety assessments were required to strap at least twelve gold painted men to a massive globe suspended from the ceiling then winch it hither and thither through the air, but I hope their skimpy gold trunks were unsoiled. It looks terrifying.
While this is occurring, Foteini Darra is singing a piece composed especially for the opening of the final - The Mermaid Song - which has some of the most forced lyrics I've heard. There's a ballet going on around her to represent the sea and the wind. For a finale, resplendent in a white suit, Sakis enters on wires descending from the roof in a John Travolta pose. Maria enters similarly on wires, but she has a whole lot more trepidation and less élan floating around above the massive audience. You can sense her relief when she reaches the stage and her harness is removed by the ballet dancers.
Tumblr media
This is followed by our first dose of Helena Paparizou for the evening, opening with a reprise of last year's winning song My Number One. She's back as the voting is taking place to perform her big Greek hit Mambo! The voting sequence itself is launched by former Luxembourg Eurovision representative Nana Mouskouri, born on Crete and one of Greece's most famous contemporary figures.
Tumblr media
The main interval is another ballet/dance sequence commissioned by ERT for the evening. This one is 4000 Years of Greek Song which takes in everything from chants from Oracles, through a sequence that seems to imply that Greece taught birds to sing. The are larger than life puppets, and a section that's approaching but isn't quite Zorba the Greek.
The highlight is that opening mix of Eurovision's past. It's possibly the first show-opening medley of songs that I can remember and definitely one designed to highlight the stage and get you in the mood both for Eurovision itself as well as a night of siting in an amphitheatre watching Greek culture.

November F1c Prompts Day 12
Day 12 - Kinaesthesia (sense of movement)
You’re at that age, where friends are getting married and having babies and doing all the big life things. In a rare show of we-should-talk-about-this-before-it’s-necessary responsible adulthood, you actually have talked about it. The former isn’t off the table but it’s not particularly important to either of you; you live together, you’ve been there for each other, you’ve given and taken and carved out space in life for and around each other.
The latter...well, neither of you is in a rush. That gives you more time to sort out the noise around it in your head. But the thought of having little curly haired, brown eyed children with him (because when you do let yourself imagine it, tentative, they’re always like Daniel in miniature) makes you feel like you’re melting from the inside out, and that’s enough for now.
The weddings are always beautiful, dotted around the world. Daniel is an excellent wedding guest and an exemplary plus one partner; he’s an attentive listener and asks the right questions to make people feel included, always charming (and you do so appreciate him in a suit; you might never recover from the blue suit trend).
He’s not one for remembering steps to a dance, but he has a good sense of movement. You dance the Zorba at Scotty and Chloe’s engagement party, stumble into him laughing and breathless when it’s over, in his stupid bright shirt that’s soft over his chest against your cheek.
(You wear it in the morning over your bikini when you drag him down to the pool to swim in the sunrise, probably still a bit drunk)
The first one you go to as a couple, officially, Take It To The Limit plays, with a little bit of the warbly quality that reminds you of vinyl on your dad’s old record player, and he holds out his hand like an offer, pulls you to your feet and against his chest in quick succession. It still feels a little fragile and new, having each other like this, but then...it’s also so easy to wrap your arms around his neck and settle against him, his big hands splayed almost possessively over your back, just dipping under the fabric of your dress, where the cut out is.
There’s not an inch of space between you and it’s probably swaying more than it’s dancing, really, but it’s everything. It’s promise and it’s butterflies and it’s feeling every movement, his chest vibrating against your ear as he hums along.

BELOVED OSHO, I AM JUST CURIOUS. HAVE YOU READ THE BOOK ZORBA THE GREEK BY KAZANTZAKIS? I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IS NOT ZORBA EXACTLY THE WAY YOU WANT US TO BE? AT LEAST THAT IS HOW I UNDERSTAND YOUR TEACHING.
I have been Zorba the Greek for many lives. I need not read the book; that is my autobiography. And that's what I would like you to be. Take life joyfully, take life easily, take life relaxedly, don't create unnecessary problems. Ninety-nine percent of your problems are created by you because you take life seriously. Seriousness is the root cause of problems. Be playful, and you will not miss anything -- because life is God. Forget about God; just be alive, be abundantly alive. Live each moment as if this is the last moment. Live it intensely; let your torch burn from both sides together. Even if it is only for one moment, that is enough. One moment of intense totality is enough to give you the taste of God. You can live in a lukewarm way, the bourgeois way, the middle-class way. You can go on living, dragging yourself for millions of years -- you will only collect dust from the roads and nothing else. One moment of clarity, totality, spontaneity, and you burn like a flame. Just one moment is enough! One moment will make you eternal; you will enter from that moment into eternity. That's my whole message for my sannyasins: live it in such way that you need not repent, ever.
A friend has sent me a paper-cutting.
An old woman, eighty-five years old, was asked by a journalist that if she had to live again, how would she live?
The old woman said -- there is a great insight in it, remember it -- "If I had my life to live over, I would dare to make more mistakes next time. I would relax, I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would take more trips. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I would have fewer imaginary ones.
"You see, I am one of those people who lived sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I have had my moments, and if I had it to do over again I would have more of them. In fact, I would try to have nothing else -- just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I have been one of those persons who never go anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had to do it again I would travel lighter than I have.
"If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring, and stay that way later into the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies."
And that's my vision of a sannyasin too. Live this moment as totally as possible. Don't be too sane, because too much sanity leads to insanity. Let a little craziness exist in you. That gives zest to life, that makes life juicy. Let a little irrationality always be there. That makes you capable of playing, being playful; that helps you to relax. A sane person is utterly hung up in the head, he cannot get down from there. He lives upstairs. Live all over the place, this is your house! Upstairs, good, the ground floor, perfectly good -- and the basement is beautiful too. Live all over the place, this is your house. And don't wait for next time, I would like to tell this old woman, because the next time never comes.
Not that you will not be born again; you will be born again, but then you will forget. Then you will start again from ABC. This old woman has been here before. She must have been here millions of times before. And I can say to you that each time, nearabout the age of eighty-five, she would have decided the same way: "Next time I'm going to do it differently." But next time you don't remember -- that's the problem. You lose all memory of the past life. Then again you start from ABC and the same thing happens.
So I would not say to you to wait for the next time. Take hold of this moment! This is the only time there is, there is no other time. Even if you are eighty-five you can start living. And what is there to lose when you are eighty-five? If you go barefoot on the beach in the spring, if you collect daisies -- even if you die in that, nothing is wrong. To die barefoot on the beach is the right way to die. To die collecting daisies is the right way to die. Whether you are eighty-five or fifteen doesn't matter. Take hold of this moment. Be a Zorba. You ask: "I am just curious. Have you read the book Zorba the Greek? I love it so much."
Only loving it won't help. Be it! Sometimes it happens that you love the opposite of what you are. You enjoy the opposite of what you are -- because it releases fantasies in you. It gives you a vision of how you would like to be: that's the appeal of a Zorba.
But loving the book will not help. That's what people have been doing down the ages. People love the Bible, and don't become Jesus, and they love the Heart Sutra -- they repeat it, they chant it every day. Millions of people in the East repeat the Heart Sutra five times a day -- in China, in Japan, in Korea, in Vietnam -- they go on repeating it. It is a small sutra; it can be repeated within minutes. They love it, but they don't become it!
Be a Zorba. Remember it: loving books is not going to help, only being helps.
"I love it so much. Is not Zorba exactly the way you want us to be?" Not exactly, because I would not like many Zorbas in the world. Not exactly, because that would be ugly and monotonous and boring. You be a Zorba in your own way -- not exactly.
Never try to imitate anybody, never be an imitator; that is suicide. Then you will never be able to enjoy. You will always remain a carbon copy, you will never be the original. And all that happens in life -- truth, beauty, good, liberation, meditation, love -- happens to the original, never to the carbon copy. Beware -- not exactly; that is dangerous. If you simply start following Zorba and start doing things as he is doing them you will get into trouble. That's how people have done it.
Look at the Christians, look at the Hindus: they have been trying to do it exactly. Nobody can be a Buddha again! God does not permit any repetition! God does not allow secondhand people, he loves firsthand people. He loved Buddha. He loved so much that it is finished. Now there is no need for Buddha. It would not be a love affair anymore. It would be like going to the same movie that you have seen before, it would be like reading the same book that you have read many times before. God is not dull and stupid, he never allows anybody to repeat anybody else: Christ only once, Buddha only once -- and so are you only once! And you are alone, there is nobody else like you. Only you are you. This I call reverence for life. This is really self-respect.
Learn from Zorba, learn the secret, but never try to imitate. Learn the climate, appreciate, go into it, sympathize with it, participate with Zorba, and then go on your own. Then be yourself.
Osho.
